Full transcript
- 0:00motivation letter is one of the most
- 0:01important documents to get fully funded
- 0:03scholarship abroad it sometimes account
- 0:06for 50% of your success let's talk about
- 0:09how to draft an excellent motivation
- 0:12letter to get attention of the commy and
- 0:15study appro totally for free the things
- 0:17that you don't have to do in
- 0:18motivational first of all don't use chat
- 0:21GPT don't use AI to draft your
- 0:24motivation letter believe me nowadays
- 0:27almost all the universities and
- 0:29committees have the access to the
- 0:31platforms and apps that can check
- 0:33whether it is return by chat GPT or any
- 0:36other AI tools what you can do you can
- 0:39use chat GPT to get ideas to get
- 0:42synonyms to the words to get uh
- 0:44inspiration but not to copy paste from
- 0:47chat GPT or any AI tool the second thing
- 0:50don't use generalization in your
- 0:52motivation letter last year I was a
- 0:55Committee Member for stipendium
- 0:57hungarikum scholarship and I had the
- 0:59exess to motivation letters of the
- 1:01students who we were going to interview
- 1:04what I was surprised to see that five
- 1:07students from the African continent was
- 1:10writing the same things in their
- 1:12motivation letter were planning to
- 1:14finish the scholarship and uh uh go to
- 1:17become a Minister of Finance in their
- 1:19country I understand people can have
- 1:22very uh ambitious goals but if you see
- 1:25these terms uh for fifth time in a
- 1:28motivation letter you will doubt whether
- 1:30they the student even wrote this
- 1:33motivation it's common and easy words to
- 1:37say that you are motivated uh you want
- 1:39to create a change in the society uh I
- 1:42don't know you want to become a minister
- 1:44of finance but how can you prove it how
- 1:48can you show that you have skills and
- 1:51you have experience and you are
- 1:55competent enough to to to become such a
- 1:58person that you're um mentioning right
- 2:01instead of saying the general terms you
- 2:03have to tell the story you have to prove
- 2:06it I will read for you two examples
- 2:08which I found online and you can feel
- 2:12how the first example is different from
- 2:15the second example when the student use
- 2:18general terms and the second one when
- 2:20the student uses proofs the first
- 2:23example I believe that I'm motivated and
- 2:25that getting the scholarship will allow
- 2:27me to fulfill my professional and
- 2:29personal goals as well as create an
- 2:32impact in my Society now feel the second
- 2:34example I plan to set up a women's
- 2:37Community educated center after I
- 2:39graduate to empower women with basic
- 2:42accounting skills to run small and
- 2:44medium-sized businesses the scholarship
- 2:46and master program will allow me to
- 2:49acquire skills that will help me to
- 2:50create tools and resources for this
- 2:52training I hope that you can see the
- 2:55differences how a motivational can be
- 2:57drafted the second thing is about what
- 2:59you should do uh first of all research
- 3:02research read explore as much as you can
- 3:06about the specific scholarship because
- 3:09the more information you have the better
- 3:11you will be able to draft this
- 3:13motivation letter because when you read
- 3:15a lot when you see the examples when you
- 3:18realize what they want from you you can
- 3:21come with specific examples that I have
- 3:24mentioned before and you can try to
- 3:28write what they want you to right and if
- 3:30you do your research it will help you to
- 3:32address the specific comment member for
- 3:36example if you explore and research
- 3:38enough you in most cases will know that
- 3:41who is reading who is responsible for
- 3:44motivation letter or this scholarship in
- 3:46general and you can address the specific
- 3:48person in your motivation letter instead
- 3:50of writing dear Committee Member you can
- 3:53write dear I don't know Richard Cole or
- 3:55something which will show how interested
- 3:59you are in this scholarship how serious
- 4:01you take the scholarship that even you
- 4:03find uh the name of the Committee Member
- 4:05who will be reading your motivation
- 4:07letter go through your motivation letter
- 4:10several times at least 10 times to write
- 4:13a good motivation letter takes time you
- 4:16have to try to read it over and over to
- 4:20give it to your colleagues to your
- 4:22friends to your professors to give you
- 4:25feedback so you can further improve it
- 4:28you can't draft a good motivation with
- 4:29say in 2 days unfortunately it takes
- 4:32some time and you have to be patient
- 4:34here when you read it a lot and enough
- 4:37you will avoid one of the worst thing
- 4:41that can happen with your motivation
- 4:42letter grammar and spelling mistakes and
- 4:45it is very very crucial to be very
- 4:47careful because in most cases you're
- 4:49applying for master or for PhD and in
- 4:53for example PhD you have to be very good
- 4:55at academic writing and and now you're
- 4:58applying for the scholarship with this
- 5:00motivation letter which has I don't know
- 5:0210 gramar mistakes two gramar mistakes
- 5:05doesn't matter which will negatively
- 5:08affect your application package in
- 5:10general how long should motivation
- 5:13letter be in most cases you will be said
- 5:17by the scholarship or the uh University
- 5:20how long should be but usually it's from
- 5:22500 words to 800 words it's
- 5:25approximately one page so you have to be
- 5:28very very concrete very precise very
- 5:31complect to give uh the general idea of
- 5:35who you are what you want why you want
- 5:37the scholarship and how you as a
- 5:40candidate can contribute to the
- 5:43development of the University itself
- 5:45because you don't only get right you
- 5:48have to give something instead this
- 5:50leads us to another Point what you
- 5:51should write in your motivation letter
- 5:54uh motivation letter consists of three
- 5:56parts uh introduction main part and
- 5:59conclusion you can use the normal
- 6:01introduction saying that you are this
- 6:04this person and you want to apply for
- 6:05this this scholarship but you can try to
- 6:09story tale to be distinguished among all
- 6:12these students I will uh read for you
- 6:15the part of the motivation letter that I
- 6:17used for uh getting sendum H gum
- 6:20scholarship as an introduction and I
- 6:23hope that this will give you the ideas
- 6:26and inspiration what you can write in
- 6:28your motivation letter I am mahim Zam a
- 6:31citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan
- 6:33with a desperate and tremendous Vision
- 6:35to participate in poverty eradication
- 6:37through Economic Development projects I
- 6:40recognize that in order to accomplish
- 6:42this Vision I must expose myself to new
- 6:44knowledge and perspectives having
- 6:47overcome hardship I understand full well
- 6:49the power of determination and focus I'm
- 6:52committed to harnessing the power of
- 6:54further education to participate in
- 6:56efforts to improve the economy of
- 6:59Tajikistan
- 7:00through citizen driven interventions you
- 7:02can see that it's not normal
- 7:04introduction it still gives a general
- 7:06idea who I am right and what I'm
- 7:09interested in because my thesis is about
- 7:11poverty so I'm mentioning here because
- 7:14along side my motivation letter I also
- 7:17sent my search proposal so I am very
- 7:20consistent here I interested in poverty
- 7:22and here is my research proposal about
- 7:25policy so please try to tell a story in
- 7:28introduction just to to catch the
- 7:30attention of Committee Member in the
- 7:32main part mostly you have to tell why
- 7:34you want the scholarship and why you
- 7:36deserve the scholarship and what you can
- 7:39give to the scholarship and to the
- 7:41university as a student who will be the
- 7:44part of this community talking about why
- 7:46you want the scholarship you have to try
- 7:49to be very precise and connect the dots
- 7:53what does it mean you have to connect
- 7:56your previous experience the future
- 7:58goals of yours and the scholarships that
- 8:01you are going to apply for example if
- 8:04you have been studying economics or
- 8:06international relations and you want to
- 8:09work for an NGO in your own country or
- 8:12any other countries you have to try to
- 8:15tell that I have bachelor degree in
- 8:18economics I have been working two years
- 8:20in an NGO in my country and I realize
- 8:23that I have a knowledge Gap in this this
- 8:26Majors so this master program will help
- 8:30me to get this necessary knowledge that
- 8:32I can use to become a better employer or
- 8:35Specialist or professional in specific
- 8:37company also here you can explain why
- 8:41you want this specific major right and
- 8:44specific University again if you did
- 8:47your homework and read enough about the
- 8:50scholarship and their requirements then
- 8:54you will understand what you can write
- 8:56here for example in this channel I have
- 8:58an interview with one of my uh friends
- 9:00who got chiming scholarship uh to study
- 9:03in the United Kingdom and she said that
- 9:05in one of her essays why she wants to
- 9:08study specifically in that uh city of
- 9:11the United Kingdom she likes the
- 9:14specific flower that is only seen in
- 9:16that part of the of the country and it
- 9:19would be great to go and explore and see
- 9:22this so you have to do your research to
- 9:25understand what is what specific things
- 9:27that other people will not pay attention
- 9:29to you found paid attention and wrote in
- 9:33your motivation letter and you get the
- 9:36scholarship what can you give instead
- 9:38here how can you uh contribute to the
- 9:41scholarship you can write uh about your
- 9:45experience achievement skills that you
- 9:47can bring to the to this academic
- 9:49Community to this University and to the
- 9:52scholarship if you are able to tell it
- 9:55through story as I have mentioned like
- 9:57what projects you have implemented Ed
- 10:00what kind of people you have met what
- 10:03languages you learned it will be more
- 10:06interesting to read your motivation
- 10:08letter and to know the history of your
- 10:11life I would say the last part about
- 10:13conclusion here you can mention your
- 10:16future goals again it will depend on you
- 10:19don't put super uh ambitious goals here
- 10:23in the last part of your motivation
- 10:25letter don't use general terms as I have
- 10:27said before not to become president or
- 10:31minister or something like that try to
- 10:33be specific and think that okay what
- 10:36will happen after you finish this
- 10:38program right try to be more I would say
- 10:42realistic and uh it it can be that okay
- 10:46you can mention short-term goals and in
- 10:48long-term goals of course you can tell
- 10:51about your plans that you are going to
- 10:53open your own business or your company
- 10:55or noos or whatever but in short term
- 10:58gos be more realistic because uh I
- 11:00wouldn't believe to someone who who just
- 11:04finished his Bachelor or Master to be a
- 11:07Ministry of Finance in 5 years you know
- 11:10what I mean right so good luck with that
- 11:13and see you in my next videos
