- 0:23What's up, guys? We're here again with
- 0:25Mr. Dominic and we're going to go over
- 0:27some guard passing tips today,
- 0:28specifically with Toriondos.
- 0:30So, when we're looking to go into passes
- 0:34with Toryandos, understand that when
- 0:35you're working noi, you don't have the
- 0:37luxury of grabbing your partner's pants,
- 0:40which means that the grips that you make
- 0:42aren't going to be grips that you hold
- 0:43for a long time. They're going to be
- 0:45more of touchandgo grips. So, what's
- 0:47most important when we're looking at
- 0:48Noki Toryandos is the footwork.
- 0:52So when I go in and I go to start
- 0:54passing my partner's guard, understand
- 0:55that from here, the footwork is the most
- 0:57important, not the grips on my partner's
- 0:59ankles and knees. So right from here,
- 1:02when we go in, the footwork is going to
- 1:04be very specific. I take a small outside
- 1:06step with my left foot. When I take a
- 1:09cross step with my right foot, I make
- 1:12sure that it's past my partner's hip
- 1:14line, the line that draws his two hips
- 1:16together. If I step to his hip line, it
- 1:18puts no pressure on him whatsoever. The
- 1:20second I step past Dominic's hipline,
- 1:23now he's in real jeopardy of having his
- 1:24guard passed. Now, right from here, we
- 1:27take a cross step and we pivot so that
- 1:29our knee points towards our partner's
- 1:31far hip here. If I stay here, Dominic
- 1:35can bring his legs in and start going
- 1:37into all kinds of attacks on me. I can't
- 1:39My knee's in the wrong position. I can't
- 1:41access his feet. When I pivot and I
- 1:43point my knee towards his far hip, when
- 1:46he goes to enter my legs, it'll be much
- 1:48harder for him to do. and my hands are
- 1:51right here to catch his ankles. And now
- 1:53from here we can go in and start walking
- 1:54north south or passing right from here
- 1:56or moving back to the opposite side. So
- 1:58the first thing is
- 2:01when I go to take grips with my
- 2:02partner's ankles, I take a grip, I touch
- 2:05and I go. I just grab the ankles and I
- 2:07throw like so. Small step. Now I take a
- 2:11big cross step past my partner's hip
- 2:14line. And now a pivot to point my knee
- 2:17towards his far hip. And now we can go
- 2:19into passes here. If I see he brings his
- 2:21knees in and I'm having a lot of issue
- 2:24uh passing on this side or getting
- 2:26getting anything going, then we take a
- 2:28small step out past our partner's hip
- 2:30line. We lean our weight onto our right
- 2:34foot and as his knees goes to face me,
- 2:36we take a cross step past the hip on the
- 2:38opposite side.
- 2:40Now from here we pivot and now we're in
- 2:42position ready to go. So we play this
- 2:44footwork game where every time we pass
- 2:46from one side to the other, we
- 2:48immediately get past his hip line and
- 2:50get ready to go to pass his side control
- 2:53pass to north south or move AC move
- 2:56across on the opposite side. So we go in
- 2:58one here, two here, three pivot. Now he
- 3:05goes in, he goes to bring his knees in.
- 3:07One, two, three. He brings his knees in.
- 3:11One, two, three. Knees in. One, two,
- 3:14three. And every time
- 3:17we're legitimately past our partner's
- 3:19hips and ready to put him in pressure,
- 3:21uh, put him in situations where he's
- 3:23genuinely has an, uh, a danger of
- 3:26getting his guard passed. If I don't
- 3:28step past his hip line,
- 3:30his guard is maintained still by pushing
- 3:34me away with his legs. The second I step
- 3:37past his hip line, he can only maintain
- 3:40guard by pulling his knees to his chest.
- 3:43This inherently is a lot weaker of a
- 3:46position for him and a lot more taxing
- 3:48as far as fatigue goes. Gets a lot more
- 3:51tiring um for Dominic to maintain
- 3:53maintain guard by pulling his knees to
- 3:55his chest rather than pushing his feet
- 3:58away from his chest. Every time we get
- 4:00past that hip line, we are putting
- 4:01massive amounts of pressure and strain
- 4:03on his abdomen by pulling his knees to
- 4:06his chest, trying to maintain guard from
- 4:07here, which is why stepping all the way
- 4:11past the hip line is so important from
- 4:13here. Okay, so just some tips with
- 4:17toyondo when we're looking for guard
- 4:19passing and toondo noi, the grips in the
- 4:22legs and the feet, the knees aren't as
- 4:24important. What's important is my
- 4:26footwork. I make sure that with every
- 4:28step I'm past my partner's hipline on
- 4:32one side or the other.
- 4:38And the legs, the hands just touch and
- 4:41go
- 4:47until we're ready to go in and start our
- 4:49passing game. So, just some guard
- 4:51passing tips with no geeondos.
