  9. 0:19english
  10. 0:20stop translating in your head and
  11. 0:22increase fluency speaking english and
  12. 0:25what a better way to start 2020 than
  13. 0:28with this goal
  14. 0:36first i want you to name one reason why
  15. 0:39you want to start thinking in english
  16. 0:43i want to learn to think in english so i
  17. 0:45can easily participate in conversation
  18. 0:48whatever your reason is i know it's a
  19. 0:51good one and i think in 2020 you can
  20. 0:53make that happen
  21. 0:54the first tip is to start simple and
  22. 0:57name objects around you in english
  23. 1:00i remember when i was learning german
  24. 1:02and i was doing this i had to learn the
  25. 1:04article as well deya di das
  26. 1:08their computer
  27. 1:10we don't have that in english but it
  28. 1:12doesn't hurt to really focus on the
  29. 1:14pronunciation as you're thinking of
  30. 1:16simple objects in fact that's why i
  31. 1:19started my youtube channel and even my
  32. 1:21academy when i was learning german
  33. 1:23french and italian as an opera student i
  34. 1:25couldn't find any resources that focused
  35. 1:28enough on pronunciation
  36. 1:30and i knew that to be effective i needed
  37. 1:33the right pronunciation right from the
  38. 1:35beginning so i created my youtube
  39. 1:37channel and my academy to put
  40. 1:39pronunciation
  41. 1:40forward so take a moment as you're
  42. 1:42naming objects to think about
  43. 1:44pronunciation
  44. 1:47closet
  45. 1:50box
  46. 1:52million subscriber button cool
  47. 1:56globe
  48. 1:59window
  49. 2:01and if you're not sure about the
  50. 2:02pronunciation listen to some native
  51. 2:04speakers you can use an online
  52. 2:07dictionary also uglish is a great
  53. 2:10resource for this this record is
  54. 2:12replicated on every computer that uses
  55. 2:15the network computer generated movies
  56. 2:18are really mainstream today something
  57. 2:20that we couldn't possibly do with our
  58. 2:21classical computer they want him to be
  59. 2:23able to distinguish you know the
  60. 2:25telephone from the computer whatever
  61. 2:26they did with him
  62. 2:28computer computer they're all saying
  63. 2:31that with a flap computer
  64. 2:35a flap instead of
  65. 2:37a t sound
  66. 2:39computer
  67. 2:40computer middle syllable stress if you
  68. 2:43can add this step of focusing on the
  69. 2:45pronunciation and listening to native
  70. 2:47speakers awesome
  71. 2:49if not if you only have 15 seconds and
  72. 2:51you're naming as many objects as you can
  73. 2:54that's okay too
  74. 2:56so that's step one and it's simple take
  75. 2:59a moment look around you and name all of
  76. 3:02the objects that you can in english
  77. 3:04if you can do that very easily then you
  78. 3:06can move on but if that's a challenge
  79. 3:08for you spend some time on object naming
  80. 3:12every time you're in a new room a new
  81. 3:14environment take a few seconds to do it
  82. 3:17note words you don't know look them up
  83. 3:20learn them the context will help you
  84. 3:23remember them
  85. 3:24the next step is to think in simple
  86. 3:26sentences
  87. 3:28stop right now and think of the
  88. 3:30beginning of a sentence i'm
  89. 3:34i'm hungry i'm tired i'm working
  90. 3:37do it
  91. 3:38in english i'll wait a few seconds
  92. 3:40you're starting with i'm
  93. 3:47now look around you
  94. 3:49what can you say about anything in your
  95. 3:51environment
  96. 3:53this chair is comfy
  97. 3:55the drawer is open
  98. 3:58my desk is messy
  99. 4:01that one's easy because it's almost
  100. 4:03always true
  101. 4:05if there's something you can't describe
  102. 4:06look up the words you need in a
  103. 4:08dictionary memorize it memorize that
  104. 4:10phrase learning in context like this
  105. 4:14will help
  106. 4:15speaking of dictionaries see if you can
  107. 4:17do this
  108. 4:18get an english only dictionary rather
  109. 4:20than a translating dictionary between
  110. 4:23english and your native language
  111. 4:25if you come across the word in english
  112. 4:26that you don't know use the english only
  113. 4:28dictionary a learner's dictionary can
  114. 4:31you see what we're doing here we're
  115. 4:33building your mind to work in english
  116. 4:35mode rather than translation mode there
  117. 4:38is a thing called a learner's dictionary
  118. 4:40and it describes every word in english
  119. 4:43in simple words and terms try it
  120. 4:47miriam webster has one
  121. 4:49oxford cambridge
  122. 4:51and if you have to learn and understand
  123. 4:53a word by reading in english by studying
  124. 4:56what it means in english then you'll
  125. 4:58know it as an english word not as a
  126. 5:01translation of your own language
  127. 5:04so you've named single words and you've
  128. 5:06made simple sentences the next step is

  139. 5:32to myself in spanish
