3. 0:04so this is so so good to talk about
4. 0:07because it's it's related to people it's
5. 0:10related to those of you who are going to
6. 0:11sell your game okay so what is a steam
7. 0:14wish list
8. 0:16a steam wish list is an email list that
9. 0:18you don't have control over that's what
10. 0:21it is it's valve has control over these
11. 0:23email addresses AKA usernames but
12. 0:26they're associated with an email address
13. 0:27right so you get hit with an email you
14. 0:30get a notification generally it's an
15. 0:31email that is going to tell you hey you
16. 0:33need to buy this game it's on sale
17. 0:35but you're not in control of that so you
18. 0:38have to work within the confines of
19. 0:39steam's wishlist system now it is good
20. 0:42to have steam wishlist because it
21. 0:44communicates to valve or at least their
22. 0:46algorithm that your game is going to be
23. 0:48successful on launch so if you have like
24. 0:5040 000 wish lists you're gonna do pretty
25. 0:52good right
26. 0:54um the same is true with launching any
27. 0:56digital product whether it's something
28. 0:58on the asset store uh whether it's a
29. 1:02online training program or course or a
30. 1:04coaching program anything digital or
31. 1:07maybe you want to do your own digital
32. 1:08like God forbid nft of your game or
33. 1:11something
34. 1:12um I know how to piss off the chat
35. 1:15um
36. 1:16if you do something like anything
37. 1:19digital
38. 1:20the king of all is your email list now I
39. 1:24know a lot of you are probably saying
40. 1:25Tom are probably thinking well Thomas I
41. 1:27thought you said it was YouTube well how
42. 1:29do you get an email list
43. 1:31the way you get an email list is you
44. 1:33offer free stuff on your social media
45. 1:36channels
46. 1:38and there's a free goodie they get the
47. 1:40goodie in exchange for an email address
48. 1:42now make sure you disclose it when
49. 1:44they're signing up to get the goodie you
50. 1:45say I will send you coupons or let you
51. 1:48know when something's launching like a
52. 1:50video game just so they know what
53. 1:52they're opting in for you want to be
54. 1:53honest right but email lists are like
55. 1:57um Jeff Walker he he's he everybody
56. 1:59needs to read the read the book launch
57. 2:01because it's great for digital products
58. 2:04um Jeff Walker Jeff Walker calls an
59. 2:06email list uh something like
60. 2:09um
61. 2:10he doesn't say it directly but it's
62. 2:12something like a money printing machine
63. 2:13it's like you press a button and then
64. 2:16the money comes in and and that's
65. 2:18because when you you start you start
66. 2:21with uh something that is associated
67. 2:23with your game so here's an example for
68. 2:25those of you who want to sell your game
69. 2:26okay let's say you want to make a big
70. 2:28splash on launch
71. 2:31if you've got
72. 2:33a demo for your game why are you giving
73. 2:36it away for free
74. 2:38give it away for free in exchange for an
75. 2:40email address now I know it sounds
76. 2:42sleazy but you're gonna thank me later
77. 2:43because you're gonna say hey
78. 2:45I'll give you the demo you can play My
79. 2:48Demo it's a beautiful screenshot on on
80. 2:49Twitter it's like a gif or something of
81. 2:51like like maybe something like in Father
82. 2:53uh which is like a beautiful first
83. 2:56person shooter video footage and then in
84. 2:58the in the in the description of the or
85. 3:00in the Tweet you say you guys can play
86. 3:02the demo totally free click the link in
87. 3:04the description they click the link and
88. 3:07then it takes them to an opt-in form and
89. 3:08I can show you guys
90. 3:10chat says I just came here from the
91. 3:13email list
92. 3:21yeah there you go yeah well most of most
93. 3:25of my most of my students and customers
94. 3:27and and YouTube view well a lot of my
95. 3:29YouTube views even game sales wish list
96. 3:31they'll come from an email list you're
97. 3:33driving traffic
98. 3:34um so here's if you don't mind I can
99. 3:36show you sort of what the father uh free
100. 3:39demo page comes the screen again
101. 3:43so I've never seen this done before I'm
102. 3:45not pretending to be a genius this could
103. 3:47be a really bad idea but let me show you
104. 3:49my process of securing wish lists both
105. 3:52on Steam and an email list because you
106. 3:55want both you want your own email list
107. 3:57that you can say hey the game's on sale
108. 4:00today or well watch this what if I
109. 4:03wanted to what if I wanted to put the
110. 4:04game on sale on my own website and not
111. 4:07on Steam yeah well you've always got to
112. 4:09go through Steam if you only have a
113. 4:10steam wish list but you have if you have
114. 4:11your own email list of like 40 000
115. 4:13people who like your game and played the
116. 4:15demo you can say hey guys I'm selling a
117. 4:1930 copy and there's only 300 available
118. 4:22and there's the game is all in black and
119. 4:25white and you play it in reverse right
120. 4:27you can do those kinds of silly things
121. 4:29that are potentially sleazy I'll be
122. 4:32honest or like marketing ploys but a lot
123. 4:34of people love that stuff right
124. 4:37you can do that with your own email list
125. 4:39and you don't have to rely on Steam
126. 4:40right
127. 4:42um so here's here let me show you what

144. 5:16media platforms

146. 5:21this is what I do and this might be a
147. 5:24terrible idea it's sort of an experiment
148. 5:25but like if I opt in Thomas Larry uh
149. 5:29let's just do my my uh email address
150. 5:31we'll do my fake one

153. 5:38it gives you these like Steps okay step
154. 5:41step two almost there next wish list
155. 5:44father on Steam Okay so
156. 5:47without them really knowing it they've
157. 5:50and it said it on the page if we go back

159. 5:54if we go back here it tells you that
160. 5:56enter your email address and I'll send
161. 5:57you an update right and other free
162. 5:59goodies and let you know when the game's
163. 6:00on sale so when they enter their email
164. 6:02address they know they're going to be
165. 6:03put on a list so that already happened
166. 6:05so my email just got sent to my list
167. 6:07yeah mailchimp.com yeah but also they're
168. 6:10like wait what's this a big splash
169. 6:12telling them what to do next okay now I
170. 6:15can wish list on Steam this is amazing
171. 6:17yeah so then they go oh okay I'll do
172. 6:19that so I've already wish listed it then
173. 6:22they go then they're just going to close
174. 6:23out of the tab and go oh there's step
175. 6:25three
176. 6:26play the demo
177. 6:28now they got the demo
178. 6:31um so I just collected two wish list
179. 6:33options so I can hit uh steam will hit
180. 6:36that email list and then I can hit that
181. 6:39email list whenever I want to as well
182. 6:41yes yes so that's that's how I'm doing
183. 6:43it we'll see how it works
184. 6:46um the at the re the only risk here is
185. 6:48you're losing out on Steam wish list
186. 6:49because you're actually prioritizing
187. 6:51your own list right so yeah take it for
188. 6:56what it's worth I don't know
