  1. 0:00So, you want to start a YouTube channel,
  2. 0:01but you got a 5minute attention span.
  3. 0:03Yeah, join the club. Let's get on with
  4. 0:04it, shall we? First, head on over to
  5. 0:06youtube.com. And before you do anything
  6. 0:08else, do the right thing and switch to
  7. 0:10dark mode. Otherwise, you can quit this
  8. 0:12tutorial right now because my eyes can't
  9. 0:15take that type of punishment. You won't
  10. 0:16see much because you're not signed in
  11. 0:17yet. So, click sign in and create a
  12. 0:19Google account. Yes, it's a Google
  13. 0:21thing. We recommend creating an account
  14. 0:23for work or business so your YouTube
  15. 0:25life isn't tangled up with your personal
  16. 0:26email and online shopping receipts. If
  17. 0:28you want to give this video some more
  18. 0:30watch time and see what's going on in
  19. 0:31these screens, slow down the video to
  20. 0:330.25 speed. I'll sound very drunk and
  21. 0:35you'll see me putting in personal
  22. 0:37details, picking an email address, the
  23. 0:39world's worst password, and verifying
  24. 0:41the email with a phone number. Don't use
  25. 0:42my number, please. I've run out of
  26. 0:44credit. Now, I'm blazing through these
  27. 0:45screens even faster because I appreciate
  28. 0:47you're a person short on time who's
  29. 0:49going to agree to these terms without
  30. 0:50reading them and refuse to buy any
  31. 0:52upgrades. Ultimately, you'll end up
  32. 0:54where you started in YouTube with a not
  33. 0:56so shiny profile circle in the top right
  34. 0:58hand corner of the screen. You can now
  35. 1:00click that button and then create a
  36. 1:02channel. Hi, I'm Rob by the way. Welcome
  37. 1:03to VidIQ. Yes, these glasses are weird,
  38. 1:05but they're also staying. This is a safe
  39. 1:07space. If you're new, there are no
  40. 1:09stupid questions except how can I go
  41. 1:12viral tomorrow? Ask your doctor about
  42. 1:13that one. Now, you need to pick a
  43. 1:15channel name and a channel handle, both
  44. 1:16of which can be changed later. So, no
  45. 1:18pressure. This isn't a tattoo. Next,
  46. 1:20upload a profile picture that actually
  47. 1:21works as a circle, unless you enjoy
  48. 1:24accidentally decapitating logos. And
  49. 1:26would you look at that, a thing of raw
  50. 1:29beauty. From here, if you click
  51. 1:30customize channel, you'll go straight to
  52. 1:32the YouTube studio where you'll need to
  53. 1:33do the most important thing after
  54. 1:35creating your account. So, go to
  55. 1:37settings, then channel feature
  56. 1:39eligibility, and then click on
  57. 1:41intermediate features to verify your
  58. 1:43channel. This unlocks custom thumbnails
  59. 1:45and videos longer than 15 minutes,
  60. 1:47otherwise known as the features everyone
  61. 1:49assumes they already have. You'll need a
  62. 1:50phone number again to verify your
  63. 1:52account. And please, I'm begging you,
  64. 1:54this time, do not use my number. I'm
  65. 1:56down to my last dollar here. And while
  66. 1:58you're in these settings, go to upload
  67. 2:00defaults and set videos to private or
  68. 2:02unlisted, never public. Videos take time
  69. 2:05to prepare, so you don't want them
  70. 2:06escaping before they're ready.
  71. 2:10While you're here, over in the advanced
  72. 2:12channel settings, you need to declare
  73. 2:13whether your content is made for kids.
  74. 2:15If you don't set it here, you'll have to
  75. 2:16set it every time you upload a video.
  76. 2:19And if you lie about this question, it
  77. 2:20can lead to serious penalties, including
  78. 2:22channel termination. So, check the help
  79. 2:24pages before you set this. Further down,
  80. 2:26these same settings are video quality
  81. 2:28enhancements. YouTube will automatically
  82. 2:30improve your audio and visuals, and this
  83. 2:33is on by default. YouTube, you sneaky
  84. 2:36little AI fiends. You So, if you trust
  85. 2:39your own color grading and audio mixing
  86. 2:41more than YouTube's mystery source, turn
  87. 2:43this off. And if you prefer YouTube not
  88. 2:45to sell your likeness to third party
  89. 2:47companies to train their AI models, make
  90. 2:49sure this setting is unchecked as well.
  91. 2:51But if you want my 100% personal
  92. 2:54opinion, I think you should leave this
  93. 2:56setting on.
  94. 3:00Let's move on, shall we? You can head
  95. 3:02over to customization next where you can
  96. 3:04add a channel banner. This should
  97. 3:06explain your channel in seconds and not
  98. 3:08read like a resume. And make sure this
  99. 3:10channel banner fits mobile, desktop, and
  100. 3:12TV screens. Unless, of course, you
  101. 3:15really are into visual decapitation. I
  102. 3:17mean, you be you, whatever floats your
  103. 3:19boat. Now, then let's talk about channel
  104. 3:20names and channel handles. Channel name
  105. 3:23is what appears on your channel page,
  106. 3:24and anyone can use the same name.
  107. 3:27Channel handle on the other hand is what
  108. 3:28appears when you reply to comments, acts
  109. 3:30as a web address, and is unique to you.
  110. 3:33And yes, I can confirm that the channel
  111. 3:35handle at Shadowban for the win is still
  112. 3:37available if you want to troll YouTube
  113. 3:40and yourself. There are other bits and
  114. 3:42bobs here that I know you don't have
  115. 3:43time for. So, let's focus on the contact
  116. 3:45email. There is one very important rule
  117. 3:48here. This contact email should not be
  118. 3:51the same email as your YouTube account.
  119. 3:59Now, I know that ultimately the only
  120. 4:01reason you're here is for that sweet,
  121. 4:02sweet cash, so you want to head on over
  122. 4:04to the earn screen next. This will track
  123. 4:06your road to monetization once you start
  124. 4:08making videos. Here are the
  125. 4:09requirements. And for once, I'm not
  126. 4:11joking. You do actually need 10 million
  127. 4:13views in 3 months if you only make
  128. 4:15YouTube shorts. Something else you need
  129. 4:18to do to get monetized, but it's
  130. 4:19probably worth doing immediately, is
  131. 4:20setting up two factor authentication on
  132. 4:23your YouTube channel. This will help to
  133. 4:25protect your channel. And this is also
  134. 4:27where my master plan is finally
  135. 4:28revealed.
  136. 4:31I did warn you not to use my number. And
  137. 4:33now it's time to actually make some
  138. 4:34videos. So here's my advice if you want
  139. 4:36to hear it. Just make stuff. It doesn't
  140. 4:38matter if it's rubbish right now.
  141. 4:40Nothing beats experience. Force yourself
  142. 4:42to spend longer on thumbnails and titles
  143. 4:44than what you want to. Packaging is very
  144. 4:46important. And be different. Why, you
  145. 4:48may ask? Well, if you're watching this
  146. 4:50video, you've just made it to the end
  147. 4:52and you've just proven my point.
  148. 4:56[music]
  149. 4:57>> Views climbing high. No surprise.
  150. 4:59Monetize.
