How to set up Jesse on Windows — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00hey guys it's s today I'm going to show
- 0:02you how to set up Jesse on a brand new
- 0:04Windows machine for algo trading with
- 0:06python now you could also use the docker
- 0:08setup which is the fastest way to get it
- 0:10started with Jesse but it's not the
- 0:12fastest way because by using Docker
- 0:13you're basically running things inside
- 0:15the virtualization software which can
- 0:17never beat the speed of a native
- 0:19installation so let's get right into it
- 0:21so the first thing that we're going to
- 0:22need is to set up python itself but
- 0:24there's this tool called mini condo or
- 0:26anac condo which is way better than
- 0:28installing python directly because
- 0:30because it allows us to create isolated
- 0:31environments very similar to python
- 0:33environments but these one are way more
- 0:35isolated and easier to manage right to
- 0:37get it I simply Google download
- 0:39miniconda all right let's accept this
- 0:41and here it's telling me to go to this
- 0:43page and here I'm going to click on skip
- 0:46registration right and the first one is
- 0:47the installer for anondo which is the
- 0:50same thing as minondo except it has a
- 0:52GUI a user interface which I don't
- 0:54really want so I'm going to scroll down
- 0:56to reach the miniconda installer and
- 0:59download this one for your Windows
- 1:00machine I already did this so I'm just
- 1:02going to install it from here press next
- 1:05agree just me next because I don't want
- 1:07to install python separately on my
- 1:09machine I'm also going to check this
- 1:11option and also this one all right so
- 1:13when it's done click on the next button
- 1:15one more time and let's uncheck this and
- 1:18this all right next I need to install
- 1:21red on Windows but the bad news is that
- 1:23there isn't R installer directly for
- 1:26Windows however we can do that using the
- 1:28WSL for Windows which is how you can run
- 1:31a Linux machine inside your Windows
- 1:33machine now to do that I'm going to
- 1:34search for Powershell and I need to run
- 1:37this as administrator so right click on
- 1:40it and press run as administrator say
- 1:42yes let's make this bigger and in here
- 1:44I'm going to have to paste this content
- 1:46now by the way in case you don't have it
- 1:48for this next part we need this text
- 1:50inside the Powershell so let's copy
- 1:52it go back to the powers shell all right
- 1:55let's press enter it's asking us to
- 1:57restart the computer to complete the
- 1:59oper ation press enter and wait until
- 2:02the machine comes up again all right now
- 2:03that the system is up again open the
- 2:05Microsoft store Look up the word Ubuntu
- 2:07and we have different versions of 1 two
- 2:09but I want to go with 1 220 and here
- 2:12simply press the button get all right
- 2:14now that is done let's click on the open
- 2:16button and here is our open to machine
- 2:18it says press any key to continue and
- 2:21here it says press any key to install
- 2:23Windows sub system okay press yes and
- 2:25again it is downloading something all
- 2:27right so at this point again we need to
- 2:29press one key to reboot the system so
- 2:32let's restart everything one more time
- 2:34all right now let's open wuntu and we
- 2:36need to wait again until it finishes the
- 2:39installation all right so it's asking me
- 2:41for a username which I will simply say
- 2:43Sol and for password I will enter my
- 2:47password and then I will repeat the
- 2:49password and we are in our open to
- 2:51machine now all right now we can begin
- 2:52installing Ries for that I'm going to
- 2:54say pseudo app get update and it is
- 2:57asking for my password all right next
- 2:59I'm I'm going to say PSE
- 3:01sudo appg
- 3:05upgrade and press
- 3:07enter all right let's clear this and now
- 3:10finally we can install red Itself by
- 3:12simply saying sud sudo app get install
- 3:17redis server hit yes all right to make
- 3:20sure everything worked I'm going to say
- 3:22redis
- 3:25c-v and we can see the version all right
- 3:27now every time that you want to run you
- 3:30need to run the This Server and to do
- 3:32that simply open the open to interface
- 3:34and run red
- 3:36server click on allow and if you see
- 3:38this page it means it's working you can
- 3:40also see the port that is is running in
- 3:42and all the other info all right so I'm
- 3:44going to minimize this and by the way
- 3:46you need to keep it open all right so I
- 3:47shouldn't completely close it but I will
- 3:49keep it there all right next we need to
- 3:51download the poster SQL which is the
- 3:53main database that Jessi uses to do that
- 3:55open this URL which will get you here
- 3:57and click on the download the installer
- 3:59now from here you can download any
- 4:01version that we support now we usually
- 4:02support all the newer versions of bql so
- 4:05I don't think it really matters which
- 4:06version you set up but right now I'm
- 4:08going to go with version 17 I already
- 4:10downloaded this before so I'm just going
- 4:11to open it
- 4:13here press yes click on the next button
- 4:16next now I can safely uncheck these two
- 4:20options but make sure to keep the other
- 4:21two press next next now the password you
- 4:24enter here is really important because
- 4:26it's the one we're going to need later
- 4:28in order to create a table for suggested
- 4:30to use now to keep it simple because
- 4:32this is running locally I can simply set
- 4:34something like
- 4:36password click on next the default Port
- 4:38is fine next next and next click on
- 4:41finish now that the setup is done we
- 4:43need to add postore SQL to the path of
- 4:45our Windows environment now in case you
- 4:47don't know what it means it means that
- 4:48we need to make sure that our CMD or The
- 4:51Terminal that we are using inside
- 4:53windows will recognize the postl command
- 4:55now to do that go to the search bar and
- 4:57enter EnV so you can see this page click
- 5:00on environment variables the default is
- 5:02set on path click on edit now here you
- 5:04can see the things that are already
- 5:05added for example we earlier set up
- 5:07manyonda and if you remember our
- 5:09terminal did recognize the cond command
- 5:11and that's because we already have it
- 5:13inside the path all right now that I
- 5:14need to add a new one I'm going to click
- 5:16on browse and from here I need to open
- 5:19my postcore SQL installation which is on
- 5:21this PC C drive program files POC SQL
- 5:25and the bin folder is the one that we
- 5:27want click on okay and now you can see
- 5:28it being added here here click on okay
- 5:30and one more time and one more time all
- 5:32right now open the search bar and look
- 5:34for CMD and now if I run the psql
- 5:38command and D- version CM version 17 so
- 5:42that means it is indeed recognizing the
- 5:44psql command all right so for this next
- 5:46part I need to copy and paste the
- 5:48commands for creating a new table and
- 5:51database and username for Jesse now for
- 5:53that just scroll down to this section on
- 5:55our documentation again you can find it
- 5:57on this URL or just simply go to to the
- 5:59environment setup the windows section
- 6:01post SC SQL and scroll down to this page
- 6:04all right so I open them side by side so
- 6:06you can see it easier so let's so let's
- 6:08copy this first line paste it here all
- 6:10right so it's asking for password now
- 6:12remember this is the password that we
- 6:14said earlier the one that I told you it
- 6:15is really important and I simply set it
- 6:17to password so I'm going to type
- 6:20password all right so I entered it
- 6:22incorrectly let's do it again
- 6:25password and we are in all right so
- 6:27let's copy this First Command which will
- 6:29create the dat database again on Windows
- 6:30you need to press right click to paste
- 6:33on this window and sometimes control and
- 6:35V doesn't work
- 6:37lastly back slash Q to exit all right
- 6:40now that we have everything to run Jesse
- 6:42go to the installation part and you will
- 6:44see the commands for creating a new
- 6:46Jesse project but before we create our
- 6:48project we need to set up Jesse itself
- 6:50which is what we haven't done yet so for
- 6:51that we can simply say pip inst install
- 6:53Jesse one more time open the CMD all
- 6:56right now we are ready to set up our
- 6:58cond environment for Jess so that we can
- 7:00install j itself and all the required P
- 7:02packages so for that I'm going to say
- 7:04cond
- 7:06create and then I will pass a name and
- 7:08it could be anything it could be for
- 7:10example Jesse or it could be but and
- 7:13next I will pass the python version and
- 7:16I will choose 3.12 now we already do
- 7:19support python 3.13 however Sometimes
- 7:22some packages don't play nice so for
- 7:24that reason I think it's best to go with
- 7:25version 3.12 for now all right hit enter
- 7:30it's asking me to set up these packages
- 7:32press yes now one really great thing
- 7:34about the condo environments is that
- 7:36each and every single one that you
- 7:37create is totally separated from the
- 7:40others and I know this sounds like the
- 7:41regular python environments but in my
- 7:44experience cond environments work way
- 7:46better and I never experienced any
- 7:47issues with them not only that they also
- 7:49allow us to have multiple versions of
- 7:50python which is really helpful all right
- 7:52now that that is over to activate it we
- 7:54should run cond activate and then the
- 7:57name of the environment which I said but
- 8:00now remember you need to do this every
- 8:02single time that you open a new CMD tab
- 8:04or for example when you restart your
- 8:06computer and you want to start JC again
- 8:08hit enter all right now if I say pip D-
- 8:13version I can see the version it is
- 8:15pointing to which firstly it says
- 8:17miniconda and also the name of the
- 8:20environment is but and here is the
- 8:21version of the Python all right now
- 8:23first I will say python install scon
- 8:27which is a package that we need to have
- 8:29for some other packages to be able to
- 8:31build all right finally I should be able
- 8:33to install Jesse Itself by saying pip
- 8:36install Jesse and we're done now to make
- 8:40sure Jesse is installed correctly I'm
- 8:41going to run Jesse D- version and we can
- 8:44see it being installed correctly all
- 8:46right now the next step is to create our
- 8:48Jesse project which is where our
- 8:50strategies and project files will be
- 8:52let's clean this now for this next part
- 8:54it could be anywhere on your computer
- 8:56but I'm going to go to the desktop now
- 8:58open the documentation
- 8:59now now that we have done this step
- 9:01which is to install Jesse itself we're
- 9:03ready to create our first Jesse project
- 9:06and you can find the commands for that
- 9:07here now here's the command to do that
- 9:09using git however not every computer
- 9:11already has git installed so let's copy
- 9:13this paste it here and run it and you
- 9:15see it is not recognizing the git
- 9:17command because I don't have git
- 9:18installed on my machine now you could
- 9:20install git which is a very helpful use
- 9:22for developers but if you only need it
- 9:24for doing this you don't have to you can
- 9:26instead go to Jess's GitHub repository
- 9:28you can find find the link on our
- 9:30documentation from here and go to the
- 9:32main organization find the project
- 9:34template and here you can download this
- 9:36as a zip file so again you can either
- 9:38use git by fishing it directly using
- 9:41this command or you can download it as a
- 9:42zip file now I'm going to download it
- 9:44from here let's open it now here's a
- 9:46project and I'm going to copy it and go
- 9:49to my C drive and paste it here next I'm
- 9:51going to rename it into my butt but this
- 9:54could be anything that you want all
- 9:55right now let's open the CMD
- 9:59I'm going to first activate my cond
- 10:01environment by saying cond activate but
- 10:04and then I need to go inside the project
- 10:06for that I'm going to say CD the C
- 10:10drive and here I can see the mybot
- 10:13project that I made for myself so let's
- 10:16go inside it and here are the contents
- 10:19of my project all right next I need to
- 10:22copy and create that MV file for my
- 10:24project we can do that by saying copy.
- 10:26env. example and then EnV now I already
- 10:30did this before that's why I'm getting
- 10:31this error but you shouldn't see
- 10:34it all right now we need to edit the
- 10:36files inside the project for that we're
- 10:38going to need a code editor now the one
- 10:39I suggest you install if you don't
- 10:41already have one is called vs code which
- 10:44is free and open source so just Google
- 10:46download V code and you should be good
- 10:48to go but I already have it installed so
- 10:50I'm going to open it next I need to open
- 10:52my project C drive and here's my project
- 10:55select folder yes I trust the project
- 10:58and here are the of my project now open
- 11:00the NV file that we just created and
- 11:02here's the thing these values for po SQL
- 11:05and redis have been set for usage with
- 11:08Docker but we are not using Docker in
- 11:10this video so we are installing
- 11:11everything natively to get the maximum
- 11:13speed so you need to comment this line
- 11:16and uncomment this one and also do the
- 11:18same for red now by the way whichever
- 11:20password we set here is going to be the
- 11:22password for the dashboard which we're
- 11:24going to open in a second all right so
- 11:25open the file by pressing contrl and S
- 11:28and now to run Jesse itself all I need
- 11:30to do while I'm inside the project again
- 11:32if you want to check to see whether you
- 11:33are in the project or not just run the
- 11:35DI command and I can see the files of my
- 11:38project that's how I know I am indeed
- 11:40inside it so run the Jesse run command
- 11:43but before you do this make sure you are
- 11:45indeed inside the cond environment that
- 11:48you made for it so for example if I
- 11:50create a new one let's say you restarted
- 11:52your computer and go to my
- 11:58project now now if I run this command
- 12:00here I'm going to get J is not
- 12:03recognized as internal or external
- 12:05command now why is that because if I run
- 12:07the P list command you can see that
- 12:09Jesse is not installed here because we
- 12:11install Jesse inside our Honda
- 12:13environment called but so before you do
- 12:15that run
- 12:16Honda activate butt right now I already
- 12:20have that in this Windows press enter at
- 12:24the first time you run this it might
- 12:26take a while but the other times are
- 12:28going to be super fast
- 12:29now I have to stop this because I made
- 12:31one mistake and that is I accidentally
- 12:33closed the Ubuntu which was running red
- 12:36so and remember I said you need to keep
- 12:37that window open so let's open ubun 2
- 12:40again and run red
- 12:43server now let's minimize this and here
- 12:47I'm going to run justu run one more
- 12:50time all right if you see this page
- 12:53click on allow and we should be able to
- 12:55use yes now now we need to open this URL
- 12:57go to your browser and and now we can
- 13:00enter 0000 as the message was indicating
- 13:03but we can also run Local Host and then
- 13:07double colon and then enter the port
- 13:10which was 9,000 all right so if you see
- 13:12this window everything's working fine
- 13:14now remember the password inside the MV
- 13:16file it was test so let's enter it here
- 13:19and we are in now to make sure
- 13:20everything is working fine go to the
- 13:22import candles page let's select BTC and
- 13:26change this to the beginning of 2025 and
- 13:28click on the import button and if you
- 13:30see this working then everything's
- 13:32working fine now I'm going to press
- 13:33cancel all right so everything's working
- 13:35great now now I'm going to show you a
- 13:36couple of tips all right so firstly how
- 13:38should you update your Jess installation
- 13:40in the future so to do that now by the
- 13:41way you can stop Jessi by pressing
- 13:43control and C now to update your J
- 13:45installation in the future when I
- 13:47release a new version while you are
- 13:49inside the correct cond environment and
- 13:52again you can ensure that by seeing the
- 13:53name of the environment here simply run
- 13:55pip in so Jesse but this time to update
- 13:59it we need to pass Dash and then
- 14:01uppercase U right and then press enter
- 14:04now I'm already running the latest
- 14:05version so nothing's going to happen but
- 14:07here's the thing sometimes I don't know
- 14:09why this is an issue with python when I
- 14:11run this command it doesn't work the
- 14:13first time I mean it shows that
- 14:14everything is updated but then when I
- 14:17check the version by passing jc--
- 14:20version I can see that the version
- 14:22hasn't been updated so but when I do it
- 14:25again it works fine so just in case when
- 14:27you run it check for the version by
- 14:29running this command and if it's not
- 14:30saying the latest version then just run
- 14:32that command one more time all right so
- 14:34this was one thing now the other thing I
- 14:35want you to know is that inside the NV
- 14:38file we also have this value for license
- 14:40API token now if you are a premium user
- 14:43of JC you need to generate an API token
- 14:46from this URL and enter it here and then
- 14:49to make sure it works come here and run
- 14:52the Jess run command one more time and
- 14:54this time by the way notice that it
- 14:55started instantly this time and this
- 14:57time when you go inside the
- 14:59dashboard and give it a refresh when you
- 15:01go here instead of seeing the word guest
- 15:04you should see premium PL or something
- 15:06similar to that if you see it it means
- 15:07it's working now another thing I want to
- 15:09show you is that if you have an API
- 15:12token the one that I just described
- 15:14again the one you generate at this URL
- 15:16and enter here if you have that and you
- 15:18want to install Jess's live trading
- 15:21plugin what you need to do is to come to
- 15:23this page and run Jesse install life now
- 15:29I'm getting this error because my API
- 15:31key token value is empty but if you
- 15:33integrate there it should go just fine
- 15:35all right so there's that but the last
- 15:37thing I want to show you is the vs code
- 15:39itself so you can find the strategies
- 15:41from this folder and by default we have
- 15:43one example of strategy so let's Zoom
- 15:45this a bit now you can see it is
- 15:47recommending to install this extension
- 15:49for python I'm going to close it because
- 15:51I want to show it myself now you see we
- 15:53have everything here but we don't
- 15:55exactly have all to complete so for
- 15:57instance if I here say ta do which is
- 16:01this module for technical indicators in
- 16:03Jesse which I have indeed imported here
- 16:06I don't see any suggestions to enable
- 16:09that go to the extension section of vs
- 16:11code and look the word python now this
- 16:15first one which has a lot of
- 16:17installation and has been released by
- 16:18Microsoft is the one that we want just
- 16:20click on install all right so if you see
- 16:23this window it means that it is
- 16:25installed successfully and if I click on
- 16:27it I can see the disable button and
- 16:29uninstall which means it's working
- 16:31there's also this really cool extension
- 16:33for python called pyland but if I go
- 16:35into it you can see it's already
- 16:37installed and that's because this
- 16:38package already installed this for me
- 16:40but just in case look it up go into it
- 16:42and make sure it is also enabled all
- 16:44right so if I go back to the strategy
- 16:46code now and press dot button one more
- 16:49time you can see it's still not working
- 16:52but it is giving me an error this time
- 16:54right so that's a good sign now why is
- 16:56that well here's the thing we have
- 16:59multiple cond environments and remember
- 17:01each cond environment can have its own
- 17:04python version so we need a way to tell
- 17:06V code which python to use now to do
- 17:09that we can click on this select
- 17:11interpreter button and choose the right
- 17:14one now I have one called but and one
- 17:17called base and this one and but is the
- 17:21environment that we made for our project
- 17:23so I will select that give it a moment
- 17:25and I can see the name of it here and
- 17:28now if I remove this press the dot one
- 17:31more time I can see a complete list of
- 17:33the indicators that we support such as
- 17:35the EMA the Ballinger bands or whatever
- 17:38and also I can see the parameters that
- 17:40are accepted for each function so you
- 17:43don't have to have the documentation
- 17:45open all the time which is really cool
- 17:47all right next it's also a good idea to
- 17:48set up some AI tools such as GitHub
- 17:52copil it which will help you edit the
- 17:54code faster or it will give you
- 17:56autocomplete and things like that but
- 17:58there are so many options for that out
- 18:00there in fact I might make a video just
- 18:01about the tools that are out there for
