  1. 0:00hey guys s in this video I'm going to
  2. 0:02install Jesse for Alat tring with python
  3. 0:05from scratch on a brand new Macbook Pro
  4. 0:08M4 Max which has an apple silicon chip
  5. 0:10in it you could also use the docker
  6. 0:12installation which is also very easy but
  7. 0:15it won't give you native speed which is
  8. 0:17important if you want to make sure that
  9. 0:18your back tests are being executed as
  10. 0:20fast as possible so let's get right into
  11. 0:22it so first I'm going to set up python
  12. 0:25itself however instead of using python
  13. 0:27alone I'm going to use this tool called
  14. 0:29min nonda which allows us to set up
  15. 0:32isolated environments this is super
  16. 0:34helpful because it allows me to separate
  17. 0:36my python applications from each other
  18. 0:38so that the dependency packages that
  19. 0:40we're going to install won't conflict
  20. 0:42with each other so I simply Googled
  21. 0:44miniconda let's open it now let's go
  22. 0:47down and go to the installing miniconda
  23. 0:52I'm going to go to the Mac OS and
  24. 0:54because I'm on an Apple silicon machine
  25. 0:56I'm going to copy this open the terminal
  26. 0:59and paste it
  27. 1:00depending on your internet connection
  28. 1:02this is going to take a while all right
  29. 1:03now that this is done let's try the cond
  30. 1:05command right it says after installing
  31. 1:07close and reopen your terminal
  32. 1:09application or ref we should by running
  33. 1:10this command let's give this a
  34. 1:13try all right it works now perfect let's
  35. 1:16copy this
  36. 1:18one now try it again and now it works
  37. 1:21okay so in case you missed it first you
  38. 1:23need to run this command for it to
  39. 1:26recognize the cond command and then run
  40. 1:29this command for the the changes to be
  41. 1:30permanent so now whenever I open a new
  42. 1:33terminal command and run the cond
  43. 1:35command it will work all right so now
  44. 1:37that we have cond installed we can begin
  45. 1:39creating our first cond environment so
  46. 1:42I'm going to say cond
  47. 1:44create and then I will pass a name and I
  48. 1:47will call it simply Jesse and then we
  49. 1:50can pass the version of the Python that
  50. 1:52we want I'm going to choose
  51. 1:543.13 and hit enter so now this is going
  52. 1:58to install even python itself for me
  53. 2:00which is another benefit of cond
  54. 2:02environments because with typical python
  55. 2:04environments sure you can separate your
  56. 2:06packages but you cannot separate your
  57. 2:07python versions all right so it's
  58. 2:09telling me this let's press enter and
  59. 2:12wait for it to finish downloading all
  60. 2:15right now that that is done we can
  61. 2:16activate it by saying cond activate and
  62. 2:20then pass the name of the environment
  63. 2:22that we specified earlier which in this
  64. 2:23case would be J so now to confirm that
  65. 2:26we have python indeed installed I'm
  66. 2:28going to pass this
  67. 2:30and it says 3.13 which is correct I can
  68. 2:33also do the same for
  69. 2:35pip and we got the same thing all right
  70. 2:38Perfect all right so now we have python
  71. 2:40itself but there are a couple of other
  72. 2:41things that we also need for Jesse such
  73. 2:43as the database and for that I'm going
  74. 2:45to use a very cool tool for Mac called
  75. 2:47Homebrew there's a good chance you
  76. 2:49already have that but in case you don't
  77. 2:50let's install it together I just Google
  78. 2:52Homebrew let's open it and just copy
  79. 2:55this command open the terminal a new tab
  80. 3:00and paste it in going to enter my
  81. 3:03password hit enter and we're going to
  82. 3:06have to wait and notice that it's
  83. 3:08telling me that it needs to set up the
  84. 3:09xcode command line tools first which is
  85. 3:12required for most of the development
  86. 3:14stuff on Mac OS and we're done but it is
  87. 3:17giving me some instructions to make sure
  88. 3:19that home is inside my path and I'm just
  89. 3:22going to copy this Command right here
  90. 3:24and paste it here and also this one
  91. 3:30and this one now to make sure everything
  92. 3:33works I'm going to open a new terminal
  93. 3:35window and in it called The Brew command
  94. 3:38and it works just fine all right I'm
  95. 3:40going to close the previous terminals
  96. 3:42next I need to set up redis by simply
  97. 3:45calling Brew install
  98. 3:48Redd all right now it's telling me that
  99. 3:51to Red now and Restort at log in you
  100. 3:54need to run this scha so I'm going to
  101. 3:56copy and paste it
  102. 4:01and we're good to go all right next I
  103. 4:03need to set up database I'm going to say
  104. 4:05Brew
  105. 4:07install
  106. 4:08postgress ql at sign 17 to make sure I'm
  107. 4:13setting up the version 17 which at the
  108. 4:16moment of making this video is the
  109. 4:18latest version but there might be newer
  110. 4:20versions when you are watching this
  111. 4:21video if that's the case there's a good
  112. 4:23chance that will be already supported by
  113. 4:25us but in case it doesn't just set up
  114. 4:27the version 17
  115. 4:30so it's telling me to first run this
  116. 4:32command so that the postore scl can be
  117. 4:36found inside my path now by the way in
  118. 4:37case you don't know what the path is let
  119. 4:40me open a new terminal window so for
  120. 4:42example when I run the Brew command and
  121. 4:45it recognizes this command this is
  122. 4:47because the home brew is inside my path
  123. 4:50Now what is my path to see it we can run
  124. 4:53the command Echo and then path and in
  125. 4:56this long string you can indeed find
  126. 4:59Homebrew
  127. 5:00so you see because I have it in here it
  128. 5:04knows that when I run the Brew command
  129. 5:07basically this is what I'm referring to
  130. 5:09this one for example is for miniconda
  131. 5:11and this is a common issue actually that
  132. 5:13sometimes you install a package and you
  133. 5:15run the command but the terminal just
  134. 5:17doesn't recognize it that's because it
  135. 5:19is not inside your path and you need to
  136. 5:21put it there now the command that it is
  137. 5:23giving me here if I copy and paste it it
  138. 5:26will ensure that it is in my path
  139. 5:28however there is one important note and
  140. 5:30that is the command that it is giving me
  141. 5:32is echoing this line or copying it let's
  142. 5:36say inside this file but the reason it
  143. 5:39is giving me this file is because I have
  144. 5:40zshell installed on my terminal so for
  145. 5:43you this may be another address and if
  146. 5:45you do want to set up Zell just like me
  147. 5:47which will give you some cool stuff
  148. 5:49inside the terminal just go to the
  149. 5:51Google and search for Zell Mac
  150. 5:55OS open the first
  151. 5:58link go to the install and just copy and
  152. 6:01paste this command and you should be
  153. 6:03good to go anyways back to the task so
  154. 6:05it's also telling me that for compilers
  155. 6:07to find postc schol you need to set
  156. 6:09these two values so I'm going to open
  157. 6:12this simply by saying open and then
  158. 6:15pasting the
  159. 6:16path this will give me the code editor
  160. 6:20Let Me zoom
  161. 6:21in and now I'm going to copy these two
  162. 6:25lines and come down and here I'm going
  163. 6:29to paste it
  164. 6:31here and save this file it's also
  165. 6:34telling me to assort postore scl now and
  166. 6:36Restort at log in you need to run this
  167. 6:39command so let's copy and paste it and
  168. 6:41we're good all right now that we have
  169. 6:43the database we can move on to create a
  170. 6:46table and user and password for for JC
  171. 6:49to be able to use it now in case you
  172. 6:50need to copy and paste these commands
  173. 6:52just go to our documentation inside the
  174. 6:54environment setup and Mac OS and you can
  175. 6:57find them here so I'm just going to copy
  176. 7:00and paste
  177. 7:05these all right so now that we have
  178. 7:07those we should be good to actually
  179. 7:09install Jesse itself I'm going to open
  180. 7:11another terminal just to make sure
  181. 7:13everything's fresh now notice that I
  182. 7:14don't have python in this page I mean I
  183. 7:17do but it is the default one on Mac so
  184. 7:19if I run pip D- version you will see
  185. 7:22that it says python 3.12 now I believe
  186. 7:25this was installed by minondo itself but
  187. 7:28still this isn't the one that we wanted
  188. 7:30for Jesse which was using 3.13 and
  189. 7:33that's because by default this same base
  190. 7:35which means it doesn't have the Jessi
  191. 7:37environment so to activate it I'm going
  192. 7:39to say cond
  193. 7:42activate and then
  194. 7:44Jesse now inside here if I again say pip
  195. 7:47version I'm going to get Python 2.13 and
  196. 7:51lastly I'm going to say pip inall Jesse
  197. 7:56all right everything went just fine and
  198. 7:58now I should be able to create my first
  199. 8:00J Project now to do that you can go to
  200. 8:02whichever directory that you want such
  201. 8:04as the one that I'm in right now which
  202. 8:06is my user on my operating system
  203. 8:09anyways to create a new JC project
  204. 8:11simply go to our documentation go to the
  205. 8:13installation and then create a new jessu
  206. 8:16project and copy this command which will
  207. 8:18clone a new project for you and name it
  208. 8:21my bot now this name here is optional
  209. 8:24and you can name it whatever you want so
  210. 8:25I'm going to call it
  211. 8:27test project
  212. 8:29and hit
  213. 8:31enter and we're done so now I can CD
  214. 8:34into that project and next I need to
  215. 8:37create mymv file I'm going to do that
  216. 8:39using the CP command to copy from the
  217. 8:42example file which is called mv. example
  218. 8:46and then I will pass the name that it
  219. 8:48needs to be for me to be able to run the
  220. 8:49project which ismv all right so now we
  221. 8:52have everything we need in order to run
  222. 8:54the project but I need to edit this file
  223. 8:56which is why I need a code editor if you
  224. 8:58don't already have have a code editor I
  225. 9:00suggest using the visual studio code
  226. 9:03which is perfectly free you can download
  227. 9:04it for Mac OS but I have already done
  228. 9:06that so I'm going to open it now and
  229. 9:08this will be the first thing that you
  230. 9:09will see now at this point I need to
  231. 9:11install the code command for my terminal
  232. 9:13to recognize it so that I can easily
  233. 9:15open the project from within my terminal
  234. 9:17for that I'm going to hit command shift
  235. 9:19and P and look for the install code
  236. 9:23command in path if it goes fine you
  237. 9:26should be seeing a message like this and
  238. 9:28by the way sometimes you need to to open
  239. 9:30another terminal tab for this to take
  240. 9:32effect so if that's the case just open
  241. 9:33another Tab and notice that I am still
  242. 9:36inside the same directory and now if I
  243. 9:38run the code command it should work and
  244. 9:40because I want to open the current
  245. 9:42directory for my project I'm going to
  246. 9:44hit space and then dot hit enter and now
  247. 9:48we have our project now check this box
  248. 9:52yes I trust it and we are good all right
  249. 9:55now I need to edit the file because the
  250. 9:58default Valu have been set to work with
  251. 10:00Docker so I need to change this value to
  252. 10:04Local Host so I'm going to comment this
  253. 10:06line and comment out this second line
  254. 10:10and then I will do the same thing for
  255. 10:12reddis now if you own a premium license
  256. 10:14you need to generate an API key from
  257. 10:16this address from our website and then
  258. 10:18paste that API key in here all right
  259. 10:21let's go back to the terminal and now I
  260. 10:23should be able to run Jesse to do that
  261. 10:25I'm going to Simply say Jesse run all
  262. 10:27right so why am I getting this error
  263. 10:29well well we installed Jesse inside the
  264. 10:32cond environment but now notice this
  265. 10:34it's it is saying base which means I
  266. 10:36haven't activated my cond environment
  267. 10:38yet and this happened because I just
  268. 10:39opened a new terminal Tab and whenever
  269. 10:41you do that you need to activate it
  270. 10:43again so again I'm going to say cond
  271. 10:45activate Jesse and now if I run that
  272. 10:47command one more time it should work the
  273. 10:50first time I ran this it took me a while
  274. 10:52for it to start but if I stop it using
  275. 10:54control and c and run it one more time
  276. 10:56you can see that it is started instantly
  277. 10:59all right so if you seeing this that
  278. 11:01means we are running it successfully so
  279. 11:03you need to copy this address and paste
  280. 11:06it inside your browser in some cases
  281. 11:08I've seen this not working and if that's
  282. 11:10the case for you you need to replace
  283. 11:12this 0000 with Local Host like
  284. 11:16this it's asking for a password which if
  285. 11:19you remember inside our project we had
  286. 11:21it here so whichever password you set
  287. 11:23here will be used inside here so I'm
  288. 11:25going to enter
  289. 11:27test and we are successfully inside the
  290. 11:30dashboard to make sure everything is
  291. 11:31working let's go to the import candles
  292. 11:34page and try to import some
  293. 11:39candles and it is working all right next
  294. 11:42I want to make sure that I have the
  295. 11:43right plugins which would help me to
  296. 11:45write the code as fast as possible so
  297. 11:47let's go back to the vs code and I'm
  298. 11:49going to remove the co-pilot tab which
  299. 11:52by the way if you install copilot
  300. 11:53completely you're going to get
  301. 11:55autocomplete in your code which is
  302. 11:56really helpful but that's not what I
  303. 11:57want right now right now I want to go to
  304. 11:59the extensions and look for
  305. 12:02python first you need to set up python
  306. 12:05by Microsoft now I already installed it
  307. 12:08next install pyland which will give you
  308. 12:11autocomplete lastly we need to make sure
  309. 12:13that the right python version is
  310. 12:15selected in our project so let's open
  311. 12:17the command pallet by pressing command
  312. 12:19shift and P and look for
  313. 12:22python
  314. 12:24interpreter and choose select
  315. 12:27interpreter and now you should be able
  316. 12:29to find your cond environment which you
  317. 12:31found earlier now this is it the one
  318. 12:34with python 3.13 and the name of the
  319. 12:37environment is Jesse all right now to
  320. 12:39make sure it works we need to open a
  321. 12:41Jesse strategy Now by default all the
  322. 12:43projects have this example strategy so
  323. 12:47let's open that and you can find it also
  324. 12:50here the strategies example strategy and
  325. 12:52then it's in it file so now if
  326. 12:55everything worked when I press the
  327. 12:57option key and and hover these I should
  328. 13:01be able to go inside
  329. 13:03them so it is working perfectly fine but
  330. 13:07why did we install do extensions well
  331. 13:09the reason is because now we have
  332. 13:10autocomplete so for example let's say I
  333. 13:13want to use the TA module which is
  334. 13:15imported here so if I press ta and then
  335. 13:18dot I'm going to get the complete list
  336. 13:21of all the supported indicators so for
  337. 13:23example if I press em it will bring the
  338. 13:25EMA for me and it will also tell me the
  339. 13:27accepted parameters for it
  340. 13:29I hope you found this video helpful for
  341. 13:31setting up Jesse on your Mac machine
  342. 13:33thanks for watching and I'll see you in
  343. 13:34the next one
