How to Set Up a Construction Site Management Plan FAST — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Hey everyone, this is David. In this
- 0:02tutorial, I'll show you how to create a
- 0:03construction site management plan using
- 0:05Rayon Design. We'll start with a basic
- 0:07floor plan and layer on information like
- 0:10work zones, crane locations, safety
- 0:12paths, and more. Using colors, symbols,
- 0:15and annotations, we can clearly
- 0:17communicate the logistics of a
- 0:18construction site. Whether you're
- 0:20coordinating deliveries, safety zones,
- 0:22or machinery layout, Rayon helps you
- 0:24streamline the process and centralize
- 0:26collaboration across all stakeholders.
- 0:28You can follow along by signing up for
- 0:30free and using the drawing linked in the
- 0:32video description. Let's dive in. After
- 0:35creating your free Rayon account, start
- 0:37in your workspace by importing a DWG or
- 0:40PDF of your site map. I'll start off by
- 0:43just creating this new model.
- 0:46So, I'll go up here to the menu and
- 0:49import DWG.
- 0:51And I've already brought it over here.
- 0:54So, I'll just select that file and open
- 0:57it.
- 0:59And you'll notice this actually opens up
- 1:01in a new tab. Um, and this will collapse
- 1:04into my model uh once it's ready to
- 1:07import.
- 1:09So let's see. I'll just zoom in here.
- 1:12And this is asking me to pick a known
- 1:14length of by setting two points. So I'll
- 1:17just select these two points. And that
- 1:20dimension is showing 12.1 m. And again
- 1:24I'll change this from feet to meters.
- 1:27So, we should be good to go.
- 1:29And now, see, it closed out that tab and
- 1:32brought me back to my model. So, I'll
- 1:34pick an insertion point.
- 1:37And I'll just close that. And there we
- 1:40go. So, now we've got this imported.
- 1:44And, you know, I can zoom in and kind of
- 1:46make sure, you know, maybe I'll measure
- 1:49this, make sure that those are showing
- 1:50correctly. All that looks good. Um, and
- 1:54then I'm actually going to lock this.
- 1:56And so I'll select everything and just
- 1:58to make things easy, um, I'm going to
- 2:01group it.
- 2:04All right. So now I have this all as a
- 2:06group and I'll check my layers. Let's
- 2:09see. Maybe I want this to be on the
- 2:11import layer. And I'm going to go ahead
- 2:13and lock this group. So now you can see
- 2:17it's not even selectable. Although I can
- 2:20still go in and, you know, snap to
- 2:23measurements, uh, snap for drawing and
- 2:26all of that, but I can't actually move
- 2:30or, um, adjust this. But what I can also
- 2:33do is I can select it in the layers and
- 2:36I can unlock it and then it's free to
- 2:39move around around again. Um, and I can
- 2:41go ahead and lock it again.
- 2:45Now that we've got our floor plan
- 2:46imported and locked, let's start to fill
- 2:48out this diagram. So, the first thing I
- 2:50want to do is I want to trace over these
- 2:52walls. So, we'll go up here and we'll
- 2:54add a layer and we'll just call that
- 2:56walls. And because this is a new layer,
- 2:59it automatically is selected as our
- 3:01active layer. And so if I zoom in here
- 3:05and I'll select our walls tool, and
- 3:08you'll notice that this does still snap
- 3:10to uh the edges and the corners of this
- 3:14wall um even though that layer uh and
- 3:17that block is um locked. And so I'll go
- 3:22ahead and I'll start to maybe just to
- 3:25show you how to do this, I'll snap to
- 3:27that inside corner. Um and we can always
- 3:30adjust that later.
- 3:33All right. So, we've got that one in.
- 3:36And I know there's a couple things we
- 3:37want to correct there, but I'll just
- 3:39draw trace this one as well.
- 3:44It looks like this one we are matching
- 3:46the wall thickness. So, that'll make
- 3:48things pretty easy. Um, but we can
- 3:51always adjust the other one. All right.
- 3:54So, now we've got our two
- 3:57these two areas blocked out. And because
- 4:00this wall thickness is incorrect, I'm
- 4:03going to
- 4:05se select all this and actually let's
- 4:06measure that wall half a meter. So I'll
- 4:10select all of those and I'll go over
- 4:12here and change that to a half meter.
- 4:15And so that's all looking good. Um
- 4:18except that this wall we need to align
- 4:21on the other edge. And so all we have to
- 4:24do is drag it over and that'll stretch
- 4:26these two connecting walls as well.
- 4:29Um, and you know, this one is already
- 4:32good. So now what I'd like to do is u
- 4:35because this is more of a diagram, I
- 4:37want to make these walls black. So once
- 4:39again,
- 4:41I'll select this batch first and I'll
- 4:43just go over into our properties and we
- 4:45can change this color to black. Um, and
- 4:49actually while we're at it, since I
- 4:51might want to go and use this this wall
- 4:53type again, I'll go and add this this
- 4:55wall type as a style. Um, so maybe you
- 4:59know this is a halfmeter wall.
- 5:04All right. And then when I click on that
- 5:06again, this is selected here. And we can
- 5:09always go back and use that again. Um,
- 5:12and I'll do the same thing here. Change
- 5:15this to black. And we'll create a new
- 5:18style. And we'll call that 3 m wall.
- 5:24All right. And now when I select any of
- 5:26these walls, this is showing me that.3
- 5:29meter, but I can also go and change that
- 5:32to the 0.5 meter. So now I have these
- 5:34two wall types saved as options.
- 5:37Um, and the next thing I want to do,
- 5:39I'm, you know, eventually we'll fill
- 5:41this out and all that, but I figured
- 5:42these are easier shapes. Um, so we're
- 5:45going to make these zones. So I'll
- 5:47create a zone.
- 5:49And you can kind of see it just
- 5:51automatically, you know, fills that
- 5:53space. And I'll do the same thing here.
- 5:57Um, and now when we go to label these,
- 6:00you know, I'll call this zone
- 6:03uh proposed
- 6:06three story
- 6:08office block.
- 6:12And then this one,
- 6:15maybe I'll call this proposed warehouse.
- 6:20All right. And it looks like, you know,
- 6:23that text is pretty small. So, I'm going
- 6:26to
- 6:27make this I'll just make it a meter.
- 6:29Nice and easy.
- 6:32And you can also see that here, you
- 6:35know, it's got the area of the space.
- 6:37Um, but you can kind of you can
- 6:39obviously see that it's showing square
- 6:40feet. We want this to be showing in
- 6:42meters. So, we just again go to our
- 6:44properties and area. It's showing square
- 6:46feet incorrectly. So, we just go square
- 6:49meters. Um, and there we're all set. And
- 6:52you know, maybe we'll add another
- 6:56layer and we'll call this zones. And
- 6:58then we'll do another one and we'll call
- 7:00this text.
- 7:02And this way, you know, as I go through
- 7:05and I start to, you know, make our text
- 7:08um, put the text on the right layer, we
- 7:10can make sure that that text is sitting
- 7:12above our zones. Um, and so I'll go and
- 7:15I'll select these two zones
- 7:17and I'll put those on the zones layer.
- 7:20And
- 7:22let's see, I got to find this text.
- 7:26And I'm just going to use
- 7:30the eyropper. And so there it
- 7:32automatically took that size update that
- 7:35we made. And it also took the um that
- 7:39change we'd made from square footage to
- 7:42uh square meters. And so I'm also going
- 7:45to select these two
- 7:47uh text options and I'm going to put
- 7:51those on the text layer.
- 7:55And I'm going to make these zones uh a
- 7:58different hatch and a different color.
- 8:00So, I can go over here, and right now
- 8:03we're showing this kind of light gray,
- 8:05which obviously if I move this around,
- 8:07we'll see different um you know,
- 8:09different colors. And I'm going to go
- 8:12over to the hatches and I'll make this a
- 8:14pattern. And clearly something is a
- 8:18little off with this. I think I'm going
- 8:19to make want to make this red. Um
- 8:22clearly, you know, what we're seeing is
- 8:24supposed to be that kind of diagonal
- 8:25hatch and that's not what we're seeing.
- 8:27So, you know, clearly there's the
- 8:29problem.
- 8:30um it's just scaled incorrectly. So if I
- 8:33go here and I can edit and why don't we
- 8:37make this times 40. Um and that is
- 8:41looking a lot better. And same thing
- 8:44here, you know, maybe maybe to start
- 8:49I'll just use the eyropper. So those now
- 8:52look the same. But maybe I just want to
- 8:54make this a different color. Um, so
- 8:56we'll give this kind of a,
- 8:59you know, maybe we'll make this kind of
- 9:00a brown.
- 9:02And so we can easily start to lay out
- 9:04these multiple, you know, different
- 9:06diagrams, um, to show these spaces.
- 9:10Okay. So, we've taken this a little bit
- 9:12further and further developed this
- 9:14diagram, but there's a couple of things
- 9:15I still want to show you just to to show
- 9:18how to flesh out this uh this diagram.
- 9:20So, first, you know, we're showing some
- 9:22locations of fire extinguishers. And in
- 9:26order to to bring this this diagram in,
- 9:29I'll just go over to our blocks library.
- 9:32And RAN has provided thousands of blocks
- 9:34that we can search through. So, I'll
- 9:36just do a search for extinguisher.
- 9:40And here we've got that object that
- 9:42we're seeing here. So, obviously I could
- 9:45just copy and paste this throughout. Um,
- 9:47but for the sake of this demo, I'm going
- 9:49to show you how to actually bring this
- 9:51in. So, all we have to do is drag it in.
- 9:55Um, and you might be thinking, "Oh, no.
- 9:57It's not here." But one thing that
- 10:00sometimes might happen is something like
- 10:02this, an object like this might be
- 10:04initially designed for paper space just
- 10:06because it might be initially thought of
- 10:08as primarily being put onto a sheet of
- 10:11paper rather than into model. Um, and so
- 10:14I know that I dragged it in around here
- 10:17and it looks like we've got that
- 10:18selected. And this is why it's not
- 10:19showing because it's really small. So
- 10:22maybe I'll bump this up to 4 mters. And
- 10:24that looks about right. And then I can
- 10:27just go ahead and drag this where it
- 10:28needs to be. So that staff parking looks
- 10:31like it probably needs a fire
- 10:32extinguisher. Um, and then the next
- 10:36thing I want to show you is because this
- 10:38is a uh construction plan and we want to
- 10:41see, you know, how trucks are moving
- 10:44through the site. You know, if they're
- 10:46going to enter through this gate and
- 10:47then exit through that gate, then we
- 10:49need to show that path of travel. So,
- 10:51I'll first start with just showing a
- 10:54polyline. And I'll snap to uh the center
- 10:58line of that gate. And then I'll snap to
- 11:01the center line of that gate. And then
- 11:04I'll have it travel through.
- 11:07And maybe I want this to
- 11:11come out and extend a bit further.
- 11:15All right. And right now it looks like
- 11:17our polyline line type was matching
- 11:20this. So I don't really want to do that.
- 11:22So I'll detach that style. And you know,
- 11:27I'll go here. Maybe we want this to be
- 11:28orange. Uh, we're already showing a a
- 11:32dash here, but maybe this wants to be a
- 11:34little bit bigger. So, I'll do a two.
- 11:37Um, and let's make this thick.
- 11:41And actually, maybe this needs to be
- 11:43back down a little bit as we're getting
- 11:45this as everything is scaling up. All
- 11:48right. So, that looks about right to me.
- 11:49And then, you know, because this is a
- 11:51one-way direction, let's go ahead and
- 11:54add some arrows.
- 11:56So, I'll go to the arrow tool and I'll
- 11:59just align here. And I just want to see
- 12:00that arrow head. Um, which obviously
- 12:03that is not how we want it to look. So,
- 12:06we can go back into our properties and I
- 12:09can pick that same orange. We want to
- 12:12match thickness here. Um, and then
- 12:17here's importantly, I can change the
- 12:19arrow type. So, I want this to be open
- 12:22and it's looking pretty small. So, we'll
- 12:24make that 5 m.
- 12:27And that's looking pretty good to me.
- 12:29So, now, you know, we can go ahead and
- 12:32start to copy this around.
- 12:36And I'll just rotate about that axis
- 12:44and everything is aligning. And I'll
- 12:47just bring that out across here. So, now
- 12:50we have a pretty clear path of travel.
- 12:52Um, and then the other two things I want
- 12:54to do. First, back to our blocks
- 12:56library. I want to show the actual
- 12:59truck. So, I'll do a search for truck.
- 13:03And here we've got our cargo truck.
- 13:08So, I'll just drag that in. And maybe
- 13:11orient it this way.
- 13:13Uh, and you know, maybe I'll move that
- 13:16arrow
- 13:18just things are a bit clearer.
- 13:22And I'd rather have that line above. So
- 13:25I'll go here and arrange and just send a
- 13:27backup layer. And so there it's clear.
- 13:30We've got our truck showing below. The
- 13:32diagram is really clear. And the last
- 13:34thing that I really want to see is, you
- 13:37know, we've got a dimension here showing
- 13:39how wide that gate is. I want to make
- 13:41sure that that we've got enough room
- 13:43here for that truck to move through. So,
- 13:46um, I'm going to go to our dimension
- 13:48tool and we'll just start with, you
- 13:52know, in between these two buildings.
- 13:54And so, we'll just dimension that way.
- 13:56And then we've got a clear dimension
- 13:58there. And it looks like these two
- 14:01dimensions are matching in style. But
- 14:03maybe I don't like that and I want to,
- 14:05you know, do something different. I can
- 14:07still go back to our uh our properties
- 14:10panel. Maybe I want this to be a little
- 14:13bit thicker.
- 14:15you know, 2 mters. And, uh, maybe I want
- 14:19to see this as, you know, blue
- 14:22dimension.
- 14:23Um,
- 14:26and if I want to change that text to be
- 14:28blue as well. And maybe it's just too
- 14:32small. So, I want to make that a little
- 14:33bit bigger. I want to make these arrows
- 14:35a little bit bigger.
- 14:37Um, and actually, I got to do both
- 14:39sides.
- 14:41And so, there it's a little clearer. Um,
- 14:43and if I want, I can save this as a
- 14:47style type. I'll just call it dim. And
- 14:50then I can go over here and I can change
- 14:52this to be that dim style as well. So,
- 14:56it's all really easy to just make
- 14:58everything the same and start to add,
- 15:00you know, more objects to this diagram.
- 15:03Rayon is also really useful for creating
- 15:05post construction documentation or
- 15:07architectural drawing sets. Here's
- 15:09another drawing showing how that might
- 15:11look. And you can see this is all done
- 15:14with the same tools. So all these are
- 15:16the zones that we're looking at before.
- 15:18Um all these desks have been brought in
- 15:21through Rayon's block library. Um all of
- 15:24this can be put together easily through
- 15:26Rayon. Dimensions, annotations,
- 15:29everything. Once your drawing is
- 15:31complete, the next thing we want to do
- 15:32is export for sharing and printing. So,
- 15:36I've brought these title blocks in, and
- 15:38there's plenty of these available within
- 15:41the libraries. Um, so I can just, you
- 15:43know, do a search for title block. Um,
- 15:46or you can save your own as I have for
- 15:50access to all of your all of your own
- 15:52projects. And next, what I want to do is
- 15:55create a page. And so, if I go to the
- 15:58pages tool, I'll just marquee that area.
- 16:03And we can set this as custom, which we
- 16:06have here. Um, and we can set the scale.
- 16:10Um, so I've got, you know, 1 to 40 as
- 16:12the scale. Um, if we knew exactly what
- 16:15we wanted, you know, we could do 24 by
- 16:1736. Um, or, you know, arch A, archb, all
- 16:21the standard sizes. Um, but for now,
- 16:23we'll just go custom to keep it simple.
- 16:25Um, and then I'll actually do another
- 16:27page for the architectural plan.
- 16:33And so you can see up here we've got
- 16:35page one and page two. And then if we go
- 16:37over to our pages tab, we're seeing both
- 16:40of these pages available. And next what
- 16:43we want to do is we want to hit export.
- 16:46And now we can, you know, zoom in and
- 16:48make sure everything is looking good.
- 16:51And we can export as either a PDF or a
- 16:53PNG. Uh we can also change the range. So
- 16:56maybe I just want to do, you know, page
- 17:00one. um or I want to do all and then
- 17:03hitting export is as simple as that. The
- 17:07other thing that we can do with these
- 17:08pages is we can actually share a
- 17:11presentation. So if I go up to share
- 17:15uh then I can just go over here and
- 17:17publish that presentation.
- 17:19And here I can copy the URL and send
- 17:23this to my clients. Then they can
- 17:25actually come into Rayon and view this
- 17:28presentation within uh the file. And I
- 17:32can also just go up here to preview. And
- 17:34this is exactly what my customers will
- 17:36see. Um and again here I can also copy
- 17:41the link to share or I can present.
- 17:44Rayon also provides plenty of
- 17:47collaboration tools. So along with that
- 17:49share menu um I can go up here and I can
- 17:53invite team members to access this file.
- 17:56Um or as we've been looking through our
- 17:58block libraries, I can also publish this
- 18:01project as a library for both styles and
- 18:04blocks that all of my teammates have
- 18:07access to the same uh the same objects,
- 18:09the same blocks across all of our
- 18:11projects. But here's where I could
- 18:13invite somebody as an editor and then
- 18:16their cursor would actually show within
- 18:18the same project and we could work on
- 18:20this together. Um, also along those
- 18:23lines, we can annotate. So maybe I want
- 18:26to, you know, highlight that truck. Um,
- 18:30and maybe I want to add a little comment
- 18:34of, you know, change this color. Um, and
- 18:39then my teammate could come in here,
- 18:42open this up, type out a response,
- 18:46and if you know they were picking up
- 18:48some red line, this could just be simply
- 18:50marked as resolved, and then that
- 18:52disappears.
- 18:54And that's how you can master
- 18:55construction site management plans using
- 18:57Rayon Design. If you have any questions,
- 19:00drop them in the comments. We'd be happy
- 19:02to help. You can try it for yourself
- 19:03using the free template linked in the
- 19:05description. If this tutorial was
- 19:07helpful, please like the video and
