  1. 0:00Right now, there's the person you are,
  2. 0:02and there's probably, hopefully, the
  3. 0:04person you want to be, and there's a
  4. 0:05gap, right? We agree on that? Okay. So,
  5. 0:08that person that you want to be has
  6. 0:10traits and has skills that you don't
  7. 0:13have, right? And I think that traits
  8. 0:16have been a word that we use as
  9. 0:19shorthand for bucket of skills. When I
  10. 0:21say it that way, it I think it'll help
  11. 0:23make more sense. And so, we might make
  12. 0:26the argument that if you were more
  13. 0:27charismatic, you would make more money.
  14. 0:30Let's say that that was that was the
  15. 0:31argument we were going to do. Like,
  16. 0:32okay, for whatever profession I'm in,
  17. 0:34that would be true to me. Okay,
  18. 0:36fantastic.
  19. 0:37Be charismatic.
  20. 0:41What does that mean?
  21. 0:42And so, right now, if So, the more
  22. 0:45skilled you are, the more general a
  23. 0:47command can be given to you, and you can
  24. 0:48still be effective. So, someone can at
  25. 0:51this point say, "Hey, Alex, can you
  26. 0:53start this business?" And I would say,
  27. 0:55"Sure." That's a very general command.
  28. 0:58Now, one level below that, it might be
  29. 0:59like, "Can you advertise this product?"
  30. 1:02And I would say, "Yeah, I can do that."
  31. 1:04One level below that would be
  32. 1:06"Do you think you can make a post that
  33. 1:08people would click on to buy this
  34. 1:10thing?" And I would say, "Yes." And we
  35. 1:12can keep going down, but the point is is
  36. 1:14that if you have a skill set that you
  37. 1:17want to attain, and you don't know how
  38. 1:19to attain it, it's because you're using
  39. 1:21a bucketed word that represents many
  40. 1:24smaller skills. And so, I'll use
  41. 1:26charisma as the example. So, if we say
  42. 1:28this guy's so charismatic,
  43. 1:30you have to ask yourself, or at least I
  44. 1:31ask myself, "Why?"
  45. 1:34Well, I describe him as charismatic
  46. 1:36because when he walks in the room, he
  47. 1:38greets everyone immediately. He uses
  48. 1:40people's names. He shakes their hand and
  49. 1:43he makes eye contact. When someone's
  50. 1:45talking to him, he makes eye contact and
  51. 1:47he nods his head. When he talks, he
  52. 1:49looks there and he looks at them, and he
  53. 1:51bounces back and forth. Um
  54. 1:53he asks questions up to the other person
  55. 1:56about themselves when he's talking. Now,
  56. 1:58that's like seven things.
  57. 2:02If I said,
  58. 2:03"Do you think you can nod your head when
  59. 2:05someone else is talking and keep eye
  60. 2:06contact?" You'd probably say, "Yeah, I
  61. 2:08can do that." So, great. That's one of
  62. 2:11seven skills that it takes to master
  63. 2:15until eventually people will describe
  64. 2:16you as charismatic.
  65. 2:18And so, if you don't understand how to
  66. 2:20do something, you just need to break it
  67. 2:21into a smaller chunk. Because like we
  68. 2:23teach toddlers speak by approximating
  69. 2:26sound. It's like "Mmm. Mmm." And then
  70. 2:29they They're like they
  71. 2:30And they're like "Ah!"
  72. 2:31Clap clap clap clap clap clap. And
  73. 2:32they're like "Ah!"
  74. 2:33And then we keep doing until eventually
  75. 2:34they're like "Mmm."
  76. 2:35And you're like "Yeah!"
  77. 2:37Right? And so, that's their first word.
  78. 2:39And then you start comparing things
  79. 2:40between what they know and what they
  80. 2:41don't know and making an association.
  81. 2:43You say,
  82. 2:44"Bottle." Right?
  83. 2:46And then they're like "Bottle." Right?
  84. 2:48And so, they like they can see with
  85. 2:49their eyes something they know, and then
  86. 2:50they don't know the word. And so, that's
  87. 2:52how we teach things. And so, if we
  88. 2:53consider I I like to think of myself as
  89. 2:55a toddler from a learning perspective
  90. 2:57because it allows you to take your ego
  91. 2:59away from a skill. So, a lot of times,
  92. 3:01the skills that we need to learn are on
  93. 3:03the other side of just kind of like
  94. 3:03humbling ourselves and saying, "You know
  95. 3:04what?
  96. 3:06If someone said, 'Go advertise,' I don't
  97. 3:08think I would be able to do it." It's
  98. 3:09like, "Okay. Well,
  99. 3:11let's break it down into six things. Do
  100. 3:13you think you can message someone?"
  101. 3:15"I can do that." Well, that's that's a
  102. 3:17component of advertising.
  103. 3:18"Do you think you could make a post that
  104. 3:20talks about something that's
  105. 3:22interesting?"
  106. 3:23"Maybe. Okay. Well, do you think that
  107. 3:26you could ask a question in the
  108. 3:27beginning of a video that someone would
  109. 3:28find interesting?" Yeah, I can do that.
  110. 3:29Okay. Well, then after that question, we
  111. 3:31then would make some sort of explanation
  112. 3:32around why we asked that. Okay, I think
  113. 3:34I can do that. Right? Okay, then at the
  114. 3:36end, we want to reward them for what the
  115. 3:37ultimate thing that we asked them to
  116. 3:38begin with. Great. Well, great. If you
  117. 3:40record that and you post it, that's a
  118. 3:41piece of content. Okay, I can do that.
  119. 3:43And so,
  120. 3:44the reason that I like I write the books
  121. 3:45that I do and I try to try to try to
  122. 3:47make the content in that way is that
  123. 3:49if you can
  124. 3:51if there's something that a trait you
  125. 3:52want or skill you want and you don't
  126. 3:54understand how to get it, it means you
  127. 3:55just need to break it into smaller
  128. 3:57pieces. Because if you break it down low
  129. 3:59enough, you'll be able to do it. And
  130. 4:00then when you have that, this is I'm I'm
  131. 4:02going to go full 180 here. So, remember
  132. 4:04when I talked at the beginning about you
  133. 4:05just need to figure out how much money
  134. 4:06you want to make every day, right? I
  135. 4:07need to make $3,000 a day. Okay, that
  136. 4:09means I need to sell this many units.
  137. 4:10Well, then you connect that and you sell
  138. 4:12this many units to whatever activity or
  139. 4:15input you have to do.
  140. 4:17Because
  141. 4:18if you look at your calendar in terms of
  142. 4:19the things that you actually have to do
  143. 4:21with your time, then it gets a lot
  144. 4:23easier to plan and allocate. Because
  145. 4:25your time is your only resource,
  146. 4:26especially if you're starting out. And
  147. 4:28so, it's like I need to
  148. 4:30make 100 DMs because that will get me
  149. 4:32one customer. And one customer is worth
  150. 4:35$200. Great. That means that if I do
  151. 4:37this every day, I'll make $6,000 this
  152. 4:40month. Okay.
  153. 4:42Based on the economics, will will those
  154. 4:44people buy again next month? If so, then
  155. 4:46great. The next month I do 12, next
  156. 4:47month I do 18. At that month, I hire
  157. 4:49somebody who who's going to do it for
  158. 4:51$3,000 a month and then I can keep
  159. 4:53stacking and then now I've got one
  160. 4:54person doing the same thing and the
  161. 4:55business keeps stacking. I'm like, "Wow,
  162. 4:57I'm a businessman, right?"
  163. 5:00But that's the idea is that like I I
  164. 5:02believe in in breaking things down to
  165. 5:04the absolute lowest level so that you
  166. 5:05can make it manageable.
  167. 5:07And then the more skills you become, the
  168. 5:09more you can bucket all of those
  169. 5:10activities. Like if someone's going to
  170. 5:11say, "Hey, Alex or advertiser." If I
  171. 5:13would be like, "Hey, I want to do this
  172. 5:14this thing with you, this new
  173. 5:15supplement."
  174. 5:17Do you think you could write an email
  175. 5:19and this is the headline for the email
  176. 5:21and this I'd be like, "I got it. Like
  177. 5:22I'm good." You know, and I'd be like,
  178. 5:23"Understood." Um, but if you was talking
  179. 5:26to somebody who was super junior, that's
  180. 5:28probably how he would describe it. But
  181. 5:30the only instance is that you are the
  182. 5:31person who's junior in this conversation
  183. 5:33and you are the one talking to yourself.
  184. 5:36And that's that's the gap.
  185. 5:38What does this person that I want to
  186. 5:39become have in terms of skills and
  187. 5:40trades? Can I break those things down
  188. 5:42into individuals? And then can I break
  189. 5:44that into activities that I can do on a
  190. 5:45daily basis and does that ladder up to
  191. 5:47the amount of money that I ultimately
  192. 5:48want to make?
  193. 5:49If so, great. What's stopping?
  194. 5:52>> Let's go. Let's go.
  195. 5:55>> [applause]
  196. 5:56>> Real quick, if you are a business owner
  197. 5:58and you are not growing as fast as you'd
  198. 6:00like, I'd like to give you a free gift.
  199. 6:02So, my team and I put together the $100
  200. 6:04scaling road map, which is basically 200
  201. 6:06hours of us looking over all the
  202. 6:07portfolio companies we've had and what
  203. 6:10stages of growth they went through, and
  204. 6:12more importantly, where they got stuck
  205. 6:13and how they got past it. And so, we
  206. 6:15broke it into these 10 stages and we
  207. 6:17made this little kind of quiz thing
  208. 6:18where if you put in your business
  209. 6:19information, it'll tell you where you're
  210. 6:21at, and the most important part for you,
  211. 6:22what to do for each of functions of the
  212. 6:24business across product, marketing,
  213. 6:25sales, customer success, recruiting, IT,
  214. 6:27human resources, and finance. And so, no
  215. 6:30matter what you're struggling with,
  216. 6:31someone else has already struggled with
  217. 6:33it and solved it. And so, I'd like to
  218. 6:34give you this thing absolutely free. You
  219. 6:36can go to acquisition.com/roadmap,
  220. 6:38plug in your business information, and
  221. 6:39if you want us to actually help you
  222. 6:41de-constrain the business and you're
  223. 6:43trying to scale, we'd love to help you
  224. 6:44out. On the thank you page, you can book
  225. 6:46a call with my team and we will
  226. 6:49look at the business, see if we can
  227. 6:50help, and if we can, we'll invite you
  228. 6:51out to Vegas and we'll do this in person
  229. 6:53live.
