How to protect your LARP weapons with Protection Gel Silicone!! | Epic Armoury — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Hey guys, Y here from Epic Armory. I
- 0:01heard you bought yourself a new sword
- 0:03and a new shield and you're wondering
- 0:05how to maintain them and make them last
- 0:07through countless of battles. Here are a
- 0:09few tips on how to do exactly that.
- 0:12First and foremost, we at Epic Armory
- 0:14and I myself recommend that you use
- 0:16protective gel or silicone. We recommend
- 0:18in this case protective gel as it's
- 0:20usable for both latex and non latex
- 0:23weapons. It's easier used with a cloth.
- 0:25[music] you generally tend to waste less
- 0:28of it. And in case you are on a slippery
- 0:31ground outside, of course, with the
- 0:32silicone, you're not making it more
- 0:34slippery with the gel. You might wonder
- 0:35when should I do this? How do I do it?
- 0:38We'll try to go through that. My
- 0:39recommendations and the ones from our
- 0:41chief epic overlord 10 years ago is that
- 0:43you use the protective gel the first
- 0:46time before your first battle. Meaning,
- 0:48when you get a new sword like this
- 0:50beautiful Imperial sword, it has not
- 0:52been given [music] any protective gel.
- 0:54And that's due to the packing and the
- 0:56storing transportations. It's better
- 0:58when it's not stored in a box with
- 1:00plastic around it, you know, moist and
- 1:02all that. But before you use it the
- 1:04first time and then [music] every time
- 1:06you use it for battling. If you go to a
- 1:08LAR that is more about playing your
- 1:10character in a festive or tavern like
- 1:12scene and it's more hanging in your
- 1:14scabbard as a piece of decor to your
- 1:17character or a part of your character.
- 1:19If you're playing knight or so on, then
- 1:20you might not need it. But every time
- 1:22you've been out using it in actual
- 1:23battle, we recommend doing so. So now
- 1:26what we're going to do is we are going
- 1:27to show you how to apply the protective
- 1:30gel to your weapons or shields. We will
- 1:32guide you through the process. As you
- 1:34might have noticed, this fine sword here
- 1:36is rather new. It's not very used, and
- 1:38it's not going to show you uh very well
- 1:40why protective gel is going to help you.
- 1:42So can you throw me the other sword?
- 1:46This one on the other hand, it's very
- 1:48clear that it's been in use. The coating
- 1:50on the latex have started to blemish off
- 1:53a bit. There are spots here and there.
- 1:55Generally, we have not really been
- 1:57taking care of this sword as well as we
- 1:59could. I mean, it's not going to damage
- 2:00the foam integrity or structure or
- 2:02anything. You can still use this sword
- 2:04in battle and at larars. You're just not
- 2:06going to have the prettiest sword out
- 2:08there. So, if you want to keep the
- 2:10glance that you can still see somewhere
- 2:11on this sword and very clearly on the
- 2:13Imperial, use [music] the gel. Now, to
- 2:16doing it, pretty simple. You take your
- 2:19protective gel, for example, from Epic
- 2:20Armor. You take a cloth. You apply gel
- 2:23to cloth
- 2:26and you slowly begin to wipe your sword.
- 2:29Some of you might actually begin to
- 2:31notice already the side up here that
- 2:33were very, very damaged in [music] terms
- 2:35of the coating. It's getting a bit of
- 2:37shine back. Starting to look more like a
- 2:40newer product. Of course, never going to
- 2:42look new again. This is a few years old,
- 2:45but it definitely helps. And it is just
- 2:47like when you clean your house at home,
- 2:50take the gel on the cloth and apply
- 2:53[music]
- 2:54everywhere. And yes, it is going to seem
- 2:56a bit moist afterwards. And that's okay.
- 2:59You just leave it on. Make sure you keep
- 3:01it in a room where the air can get out.
- 3:04Of course, you might wonder, yep, you're
- 3:08holding a hybrid now. It has the latex
- 3:11blade and a nice PU handle. Is it the
- 3:14same for both? And yes, that's why we
- 3:16went over to the gel because it is
- 3:18designed to work both for your latex
- 3:20weapons and your PU. So, you do the same
- 3:24here. Of course, the damage is and will
- 3:26be a little less on the PU. It's a
- 3:27harder material. It's grained in in a
- 3:30different way. And of course, for the
- 3:32shield, can you guess what we're going
- 3:34to do? You guessed correctly. We're
- 3:36going to take the gel. We're going to
- 3:38apply it [music] to our cloth. And then
- 3:41we're going to start wiping our shield.
- 3:42Of course, this can be a little less
- 3:44easy [music] to spot whether you've been
- 3:47everywhere. We have darker colors on the
- 3:48shield. Be more thorough than you see me
- 3:50being right now. Just take good care of
- 3:52it. It's your equipment. It's going to
- 3:53last you long if you treat it right.
- 3:58Now, a little bit of an immersive tip
- 4:00because you might have seen in those
- 4:02Hollywood medieval films, they are
- 4:04sharpening their sword. You can do that
- 4:06with the protective gel. If you take
- 4:07this little bottle, put some leather
- 4:09wrapping around it to cover all the
- 4:11modern plastic off it. [music] Instead
- 4:13of using this fancy ass microfiber
- 4:15cloth, you take a random piece of linen
- 4:18or cotton and you use that instead. And
- 4:21suddenly you can do this in game. It
- 4:23will look like you are sharpening your
- 4:25sword or simply taking care of it,
- 4:26removing rust while actually taking care
- 4:29of your live action roleplay gear. So,
- 4:31some of you might be thinking out there
- 4:33if there are other things that we could
- 4:35do to take care of our gear and keep the
- 4:38longevity of it. And there is. First of
- 4:41all, when you store your gear, you
- 4:43should never leave your weapons and
- 4:45shields lying on each other or up
- 4:47against each other. It happens that they
- 4:49will start glued [snorts] together. The
- 4:51latex might come and kind of looks like
- 4:54it's falling off a bit like if it was
- 4:57paper. This is what we in Denmark kindly
- 5:00refer to as latex pest. Most weapons
- 5:03that that gets latex pest will end up
- 5:06needing their coating removed and
- 5:08reapplied. So when you store your
- 5:10weapons at home, make sure there's a
- 5:12little bit of space between them. Make
- 5:13sure there's air in the room. The same
- 5:15goes when you are leaving for a lock.
- 5:17When you pack up the car or the van or
- 5:19the horse wagon, however you get to the
- 5:21lock, don't put all of your swords like
- 5:23this in a pile. Make sure there's a
- 5:25little space. If that's not possible, we
- 5:27have learned a little trick from our
- 5:29climbing friends. [music] Talcum powder.
- 5:31It makes sure they won't stick and the
- 5:33latex pest won't occur on the travels.
- 5:36So guys, remember when you buy yourself
- 5:38a nice sword, for example, from Epic
- 5:41Armory to also get yourself a protective
- 5:43gel. And if you have any other
- 5:46questions, inquiries, or wonderings
- 5:48about Epic Armory products, how we do
- 5:50things, or just something you would like
- 5:52us to address, please write it in the
- 5:53comments and let us know. See you around
- 5:55and adventure awaits.
