- 0:00Welcome to lesson six of the full
- 0:02course, How to Win Architecture
- 0:03Competition. In this lesson, we're going
- 0:05to look at Rayon's integrated AI tools,
- 0:07[music]
- 0:07and explore how they can support your
- 0:09architecture competition workflow. I'll
- 0:11show you how to generate AI images
- 0:13[music] in Rayon and discuss how these
- 0:15could support the early conceptual and
- 0:17ideation stages of your project or help
- 0:20strengthen the visual communication of
- 0:22your competition entry. This is a quick
- 0:23and efficient addition to your workflow,
- 0:26allowing you to turn ideas or even
- 0:27finalized drawings into clear
- 0:29visualizations within minutes. You're
- 0:31welcome to follow along with the class
- 0:33by creating a free Rayon account using
- 0:35the link below or jumping into the
- 0:37template from the description.
- 0:43Okay, welcome to lesson six. In this
- 0:45lesson, we're going to explore how to
- 0:47use Real's integrated AI tools to
- 0:50support the development of your
- 0:51architectural competition entry um and
- 0:54assist at multiple stages of of the
- 0:56design process, especially now how AI
- 0:58has become so prominent and prevalent
- 1:00within the industry. It is a fantastic
- 1:02tool to integrate into your drawing
- 1:04process. So, architectural competitions
- 1:06reward innovation, creative thinking,
- 1:09and forward-looking methodologies, AI
- 1:11being one of them. And so these
- 1:13qualities shouldn't only be visible in
- 1:15the final boards, but should also be
- 1:17reflected in how you develop your
- 1:19project. And so using AI will allow you
- 1:22to work smarter, be more efficient,
- 1:25explore more ideas more quickly, and
- 1:27push creative boundaries with
- 1:28confidence. And that is the way that I
- 1:31think we should envision AI and the
- 1:33integration of AI in our workflow is
- 1:35it's not a replacement of our drawing
- 1:38process. It is purely a supplementation
- 1:40and a tool that will help us become more
- 1:42efficient and think of ideas and and
- 1:44generate ideas much quicker. So whether
- 1:47you're working independently or as part
- 1:49of a team, AI has become an essential
- 1:51tool for producing more compelling,
- 1:54polished and innovative competition
- 1:56submissions. And I'll show you in Rayon
- 1:59how you can use that as part of your
- 2:01kind of team's workflow uh when putting
- 2:04together a competition entry. So Rayon's
- 2:07AI panel is designed to support
- 2:10end-to-end workflow. So at the very
- 2:12early stages in the ideation and the
- 2:14conceptualization all the way through to
- 2:16producing some kind of final renders,
- 2:18some AI generated renders uh as part of
- 2:21your competition boards which I will
- 2:23talk through. So you don't need to leave
- 2:24Rayon in any capacity. Everything is
- 2:27here ready for you to use all in one
- 2:29place. And this avoids fragmented
- 2:31processes and significantly improves
- 2:33efficiency of course. So, with Rayon's
- 2:35AI integration, you can generate 3D
- 2:38axonometric views directly from your
- 2:40drawings. You can apply visual styles
- 2:42such as realistic clay or watercolor.
- 2:45You can prompt accurate material colors
- 2:47and atmospheres. You can also create
- 2:49competition ready visuals, including 3D
- 2:51maps and presentation graphics. And
- 2:53because this is a competition context,
- 2:56the outputs won't necessarily always be
- 2:58highly detailed or fully accurate or
- 3:01finished uh kind of outputs. Instead,
- 3:04these tools are best for highlevel
- 3:06ideiation, exploration, and visual
- 3:08communication. And so, I'll show you how
- 3:11to integrate them effectively into your
- 3:13workflow. So, the tools we're going to
- 3:14focus on in this lesson are the generate
- 3:17image, the generate tracing, the
- 3:20generate product, the stylizing, and the
- 3:23generate actionometric.
- 3:25So, let's dive into it. on the left hand
- 3:27side here you'll see the AI chat which
- 3:30you can select and that will pop open
- 3:32this uh tool here. Now you'll see here
- 3:34that you'll already kind of get some
- 3:36prompts or some questions um to kind of
- 3:39help you along the way but to talk you
- 3:41through it what you have here is
- 3:42obviously you have a text box where you
- 3:44can actually ask Rayon directly uh for
- 3:47your prompts uh and then you can do add
- 3:49content and tools. So the way that this
- 3:51works, the way that Rayon AI is set up
- 3:54is that fundamentally you have two
- 3:56options. You can either add a file, so
- 3:59an already uh pre-existing image that
- 4:01you might have saved or already a
- 4:03drawing that you've exported out of the
- 4:04software, or you can add a screenshot.
- 4:07Now, from my experience, adding the
- 4:08screenshot is much quicker and efficient
- 4:10because you can kind of work within your
- 4:13model canvas and work within the space
- 4:15um and just kind of take some snips and
- 4:17images from various drawings or whatever
- 4:21you're trying to generate. You then have
- 4:23all your tool options here at the bottom
- 4:25as I just mentioned the generate image,
- 4:27generate tracing, generate product,
- 4:28stylize and create um your axonometric
- 4:32which is a really I think a really
- 4:34clever tool to help produce uh some more
- 4:37kind of communication material for your
- 4:39your submissions.
- 4:43And so the first tool I'm going to show
- 4:44you is going to be generate image. Um
- 4:47and so [music] what you'll have to do
- 4:48here is select generate image. and
- 4:50you'll see that it almost applies to
- 4:52your prompt. And then if you want to add
- 4:54the content, you could do add
- 4:56screenshot. Now, for argument sake,
- 4:59let's zoom in on a certain element on
- 5:01our elevation. And let's try and render
- 5:03it. So, if we just go like this, take a
- 5:06snip of that zone. And then you'll see
- 5:08the file is added there. And then I'm
- 5:10going to prompt it to do create render
- 5:13of this elevation. So, it's going to
- 5:16generate the image, apply it to that
- 5:19screenshot, and then follow the prompt.
- 5:21Really straightforward. Click send, and
- 5:23then you'll see that it just goes
- 5:24through a process of thinking about it,
- 5:26working it through, generating the
- 5:27image. And as you can see here, the
- 5:29image has been generated, which you can
- 5:30then preview,
- 5:33which looks pretty compelling. So, it's
- 5:35obviously converted those hatches that I
- 5:37have applied. So, the coarse stone and
- 5:39then the more brick stone applied. um
- 5:42it's generated that into a more
- 5:44realistic color palette um also with the
- 5:47kind of shadows and the trees etc which
- 5:48is all um quite convincing actually. Um
- 5:52so then you can you then have two
- 5:54options here. So you can either then
- 5:56reuse it um you can download that image,
- 5:59you can reuse that image for example if
- 6:01you click that it will come back down
- 6:03and add it back to your prompts. So for
- 6:04example, if you want to prompt it
- 6:06further, you can reuse that or you can
- 6:09insert image into your canvas and then
- 6:11it will drop into here. So let's just
- 6:15pull that down here. And so I think the
- 6:16way that I want to communicate my
- 6:18drawings for this competition board is
- 6:21going to be in a very similar tone to
- 6:22the elevation sections and plans as
- 6:25communicated here. So a kind of black
- 6:26and white um quite a detailed
- 6:29architectural drawing feel. And so the
- 6:32render isn't quite working at this
- 6:34stage. So if I select this image, I can
- 6:37then do use selected image. I'm then
- 6:39going to go down to tools. I'm going to
- 6:40do stylize. And then I'm going to do a
- 6:42clay model. So this is a really key tool
- 6:45that you can use to almost take one of
- 6:47your images or take um a snip of an
- 6:50elevation or section that you've created
- 6:52and you can then stylize that into
- 6:55watercolor, clay model, hand sketch,
- 6:57render or wireframe. In this case, I'm
- 6:59going to do a clay model. as you'll see
- 7:01here. Send that off. And then that will
- 7:03convert that image, that selected image
- 7:05into a clay model, which you can see
- 7:08it's just been generated here. And I
- 7:11think that looks really great. I think
- 7:13that looks fantastic. And it the way
- 7:15that it's kind of embedded into the
- 7:16landscape as well. Um, and showing the
- 7:18trees. Yes, it looks kind of snowy. it
- 7:20looks like that there's kind of snow on
- 7:22the trees which you can then one thing
- 7:24that you can do then is once you insert
- 7:27that image into your canvas
- 7:30and if just scale that up slightly you
- 7:32can then actually make some slight edits
- 7:34to it. So once you select the image you
- 7:35can head over to the right hand side
- 7:36here. I very briefly touched upon these
- 7:38earlier but you could like remove the
- 7:40background for example to make it all um
- 7:42a kind of white background but one thing
- 7:44you can do is you can select the image
- 7:45go down to filters and then you can
- 7:47adjust the exposure slightly. You can
- 7:49adjust the contrast slightly in the
- 7:51saturation. So, I quite like to make it
- 7:53black and white. So, I drop the
- 7:55saturation right down. I'm going to set
- 7:57the contrast to zero, but I'm going to
- 7:58make this potentially a touch whiter.
- 8:03Do 0.02.
- 8:05And that's actually a really compelling
- 8:08image that I can now add into uh my
- 8:11competition board in the next lesson.
- 8:13And this is really fantastic at an early
- 8:15stage if you have done a kind of quick
- 8:17concept sketch and you can't quite
- 8:19visualize how that would look in three
- 8:20dimensions or how it would look. If you
- 8:22start applying some materiality to that,
- 8:25you can then prompt it in rayon as I've
- 8:27done here to generate the image. Um, and
- 8:30that will really be a great way of you
- 8:32testing your ideas and testing um
- 8:35different ideas that you you kind of you
- 8:37kind of have and exploring them in a
- 8:39realistic tone. And so this is really
- 8:41quite compelling and I'm I'm happy with
- 8:43how that's come out there. Now to go to
- 8:45the next tool, it's going to be generate
- 8:47tracing. Um so I could even select this
- 8:50image again. You could use selected
- 8:53image, go to tools, generate tracing,
- 8:56and this will essentially then convert
- 8:58this drawing into a vector drawing. Now
- 9:01this will really take me back to the
- 9:03elevation uh that I initially kind of
- 9:05prompted it to change into a render. But
- 9:09this is a really handy way of, for
- 9:10example, if you had a precedent study
- 9:12that you wanted to add into your
- 9:14competition board or you had a render
- 9:16that you've done that you want to then
- 9:17just kind of add a bit of a style to or
- 9:19convert into a drawing again, you can
- 9:21then generate it into a vector image.
- 9:25Um, so you can then make some changes
- 9:27and edits to it. For example, here. And
- 9:29even so, this gives it quite a um kind
- 9:31of sketchy feel, which is an alternative
- 9:33style that you could also add and apply
- 9:34to um your competition boards. For
- 9:37example, if I wanted to
- 9:41create a trace of this particular image
- 9:44here, select use select image, go to
- 9:47tool, go to generate tracing, which you
- 9:50can see here generated it into a bit of
- 9:52a sketch um which as I say handy for
- 9:56Preston analysis.
- 9:58Now the next tool is going to be a
- 10:00generate product. Now, I very touch
- 10:02briefly touched upon this in lesson
- 10:04three, I believe, when I was showing you
- 10:06how you could potentially import some
- 10:07furniture and turn them into blocks that
- 10:10you can then apply into your models. And
- 10:12I'm going to very quickly do another
- 10:13demonstration of that. And I'm actually
- 10:15going to test it a little bit further
- 10:16and choose something that might be quite
- 10:18complicated to generate. And that's
- 10:20going to be the Wesley chair. So, I'm
- 10:22going to just take this image. I'm going
- 10:24to copy that.
- 10:27I'm going to paste it in here. Get it
- 10:29down a touch. Now, what I'm going to do
- 10:31once again, select use selected image.
- 10:34And remember, if you already had an
- 10:35image saved, you could do add files or
- 10:37you could do add a screenshot. Going to
- 10:38go to tools and do generate product.
- 10:40Now, this is going to convert it. Now,
- 10:42this is still kind of thinking at the
- 10:44moment, which is why.
- 10:46And then I'm going to generate that into
- 10:49a block. Now, because this is quite a
- 10:51complicated image and obviously quite a
- 10:53complicated piece of furniture, I'm
- 10:54actually intrigued to see how they will
- 10:56pick up on these lines and generate the
- 10:58block from this particular piece of
- 11:01furniture. But it's really clever in how
- 11:04it will now generate a floor plan. So, a
- 11:07top view, a side view, and a front view
- 11:10of this particular block. And it will do
- 11:12this for any type of furniture or any
- 11:14type of door or window that you want to
- 11:16import into um the model. it creates a
- 11:20block out of that generate that image
- 11:22that you can then um prompt to generate
- 11:25the product. So, it's a really handy
- 11:27tool to use if you don't have a
- 11:29particular furniture um in the block
- 11:32library. You can find a furniture that
- 11:34you want to import from a particular
- 11:36client or from a particular brand or
- 11:38whatever it might be and it can generate
- 11:40the block for you and it'll take a
- 11:42little moment to generate it. As you can
- 11:44see, it's working it through here. So,
- 11:45there they've been generated so you can
- 11:47see. So you can import the block family
- 11:50and that will import it into the block
- 11:52library and then you can insert the
- 11:53block family which you can see down
- 11:55here. So this is your top view. You can
- 11:58then go into your side view
- 12:02and the front view. I think that's
- 12:04actually really they've done a good job
- 12:06there of converting that um and the
- 12:08detailing of the lines work really well.
- 12:11Now, the next tool, as I very kind of
- 12:14already touched upon with converting
- 12:16this image into a clay model, I'm going
- 12:19to just show you some various other
- 12:20styles as well. So, we could maybe
- 12:22stylize this into a watercolor, which
- 12:24actually is really impressive. And then
- 12:27if you wanted to, you could prompt that
- 12:29to maybe change some of the tones of
- 12:30greens or stone, but I actually think
- 12:32that works really, really well. Um, you
- 12:35could either then change that to so if
- 12:39we wanted to then reuse that image again
- 12:41and we change that to hand sketch. Works
- 12:45really well. Very compelling. Um, this
- 12:48particular is actually really really
- 12:50nice. So I'm actually going to insert
- 12:51that image
- 12:53and we could use that as an option with
- 12:55our competition boards. And then the
- 12:58other style options is going to be a
- 13:01render. I'm going to use a selected
- 13:03image. I'm intrigued what's going to
- 13:04happen if I render an already rendered
- 13:06image. Okay. Wow, that has really
- 13:08rendered it.
- 13:10It's very realistic.
- 13:13That's brilliant. And then the final
- 13:14style that I will very briefly touch
- 13:16upon is going to be the wireframe. And
- 13:18that has come out as kind of expected as
- 13:21a wireframe. So there the kind of
- 13:23different options that you have
- 13:25available for you with the styling. And
- 13:27you can also once again prompt it um to
- 13:30potentially do a different style.
- 13:32Although that will require a bit of
- 13:34refinement because of course working
- 13:35with AI always requires a bit of
- 13:37refinement um and to reprompt and rework
- 13:40into it. But considering you can just
- 13:42click a button here and change a style
- 13:43to a clay model or a sketch, this is
- 13:46really impressive and it works really
- 13:48well. Now the final item I'm going to
- 13:51show you, the final tool is going to be
- 13:52creating an axonometric.
- 13:54So this will just create an axonometric
- 13:56view from a scene floor plan or section.
- 13:59And I think from my experience working
- 14:01in this, this works particularly well
- 14:03when you do a section. So you can get a
- 14:05bit of a kind of perspective section, an
- 14:08axonometric perspective, uh section. So
- 14:10what I'm going to do is I'm going to do
- 14:11add screenshot
- 14:13of
- 14:15this section here. I'm then going to
- 14:18apply the generate axonometric.
- 14:21So you can see here that it's thought
- 14:23about it and it's created an axonometric
- 14:25view here which is really compelling. I
- 14:30think it looks it looks really good. It
- 14:31looks fantastic. Obviously some of the
- 14:34details it won't be aware of because you
- 14:36can't see it in the view and so certain
- 14:38elements will be kind of poking out and
- 14:41um and extending when they might not be
- 14:43needing to. Um but I'm going to then use
- 14:46that view, that image. I'm going to then
- 14:50create it into a clay model to get
- 14:52something like this, which I think looks
- 14:55really great. And we could potentially
- 14:58then prompt it. Some of the windows look
- 15:00a bit odd. We could reprompt it to say,
- 15:03I don't know, edit to full height
- 15:05windows. Make facade full windows. And
- 15:08we'll come out the other end with
- 15:09something like this with the full height
- 15:11windows across the front here, which
- 15:13looks a lot more convincing. And you can
- 15:15see in here they've actually shown some
- 15:16of the work um workshops and worktops in
- 15:19there. So yeah, this is a really
- 15:22brilliant way of turning a bit of a
- 15:24section or an elevation into an
- 15:26axonometric just to add some additional
- 15:29images to your competition boards. Um I
- 15:32think it comes out really well as a clay
- 15:33model uh as a kind of clay looking
- 15:35model. We could even remove some of
- 15:38those um the line the border. Let's just
- 15:41do remove border
- 15:44around image as we won't be needing that
- 15:48when we put it on the competition boards
- 15:50to get something like this no border
- 15:53which we can then add to our competition
- 15:55boards. I'm going to do a few more of
- 15:58these and test some of these ideas. So
- 15:59in the next lesson you will see um a few
- 16:01that are going to be added to the
- 16:03presentation board. But as you can see
- 16:05here, this is a really quick and easy
- 16:07way. And there's lots of tools that you
- 16:09can use to generate certain images and
- 16:12generate certain products or styles or
- 16:15different types of using drawings that
- 16:16you want to add to your presentation
- 16:18boards. Um, obviously with AI, it
- 16:20requires a bit of reprompting and a bit
- 16:22of reworking. And so, um, a really great
- 16:26way of exploring these ideas is to use
- 16:29images that you already have or
- 16:31materiality that you want to add to your
- 16:33certain drawings. For example, we could
- 16:34even
- 16:36for argument's sake add a stone finish
- 16:41to this clay model if we wanted to go
- 16:44for a rendered look. We could then
- 16:48insert this image. Add selected. And
- 16:52let's see what this does. And so, while
- 16:54this hasn't quite come out as we
- 16:55anticipated, we didn't want the whole
- 16:57thing to be covered in stone, but you
- 16:59get the point in that you could
- 17:00potentially use um if you're struggling
- 17:03to prompt uh the AI, you can use
- 17:05materials as references um to apply a
- 17:08certain material to your images. This
- 17:11would be probably particularly useful if
- 17:12we went all the way back to this
- 17:14elevation here. If we wanted to add that
- 17:16specific material to this elevation, we
- 17:18could always prompt it to do that. And
- 17:20so you can also adjust tones and
- 17:22contrast or texture for consistency
- 17:25across boards. As I've mentioned over
- 17:26here, you can you can adjust the tones
- 17:29and exposure um to your images. So when
- 17:32used thoroughly, AI becomes a really
- 17:35powerful extension to your design
- 17:37process. Not a shortcut of course, but a
- 17:40uh almost like an accelerator to your
- 17:42creative process, which works I think
- 17:46fantastically well. And you have lots of
- 17:48options here in Rayon. So, now we've
- 17:50explored some AI tools on how you can
- 17:51generate some images and help you
- 17:53communicate your ideas. I'm now going to
- 17:55jump into lesson seven, the final lesson
- 17:58to talk how we can build our competition
- 18:00boards and start using some of these
- 18:02tools and images that we've generated um
- 18:05as part of our competition [music]
- 18:06boards. So, I'll catch you in that
- 18:08lesson.
