  9. 0:17whole map you need to be looking at the
  10. 0:19whole map not pages from a mapbook stare
  11. 0:21at the map find the start point of the
  12. 0:22very first point you want to do that day
  13. 0:25and follow it through with your finger
  14. 0:26or with a dry white pen drawing the root
  15. 0:28on do this for all four runs that you
  16. 0:30intend to drive that
  17. 0:34day this is going to help you with your
  18. 0:36sense of direction and give you an
  19. 0:37understanding of the position of these
  20. 0:39individual areas now look at the map and
  21. 0:41find the location of where you live look
  22. 0:42at the very first point and find its
  23. 0:44location and work out a very simple
  24. 0:46route from your home to the first point
  25. 0:49that you need to visit that day to start
  26. 0:51the runs look at the key areas you're
  27. 0:52going to pass on the way try to make the
  28. 0:54Run use a route that you're kind of
  29. 0:56familiar with to some degree you're not
  30. 0:58trying to learn the route you're just
  31. 0:59trying to gain some sense of direction
  32. 1:01if I get confused along the way I will
  33. 1:03stop I'll open up my MacBook I'll read
  34. 1:05the MacBook and see why I'm confused and
  35. 1:07then I'll carry on once I get to the
  36. 1:08start of the run I take my MacBook out
  37. 1:09again I take another look I follow
  38. 1:11through the run with my finger I'm
  39. 1:13looking at the turnings I want to take
  40. 1:14then you start driving Drive the route
  41. 1:17slowly take your time look for the names
  42. 1:18of the roads you're about to turn into
  43. 1:20so obviously on the first one you need
  44. 1:22to look for hybrid new park as you're
  45. 1:24driving slowly through the route if you
  46. 1:25notice any points of interest take a
  47. 1:27casual look don't make any effort to
  48. 1:29remember it just rely on your
  49. 1:31subconscious to absorb it remember that
  50. 1:33your focus is learning that run if you
  51. 1:35try to distract yourself of other things
  52. 1:37you are going to try to take on too much
  53. 1:40information everybody has a capacity of
  54. 1:42information to take on board every day
  55. 1:44and for most people for runs is at the
  56. 1:46limit of that capacity here's the key to
  57. 1:49learning runs well every four or five
  58. 1:51roads or so stop and revise and practice
  59. 1:53those four or five roads call them over
  60. 1:55reach a degree of fluency it's important
  61. 1:58that you attempt to learn the Run whilst
  62. 2:00you're out there never postpone the
  63. 2:02learning so you practice the Run whilst
  64. 2:04you're there leave on left Green Lane
  65. 2:07right and right HB new park left hybrid
  66. 2:09Road right and PSE
  67. 2:11Road leave on left green Lanes right and
  68. 2:14right hybrid new park left Road right
  69. 2:18you want to be able to call those four
  70. 2:20roads fluently before you move on to the
  71. 2:22next four when you then move on to the
  72. 2:24next four you call all eight roads and
  73. 2:27then you get to the end of the run and
  74. 2:28you call the whole run through from
  75. 2:29start to finish as you're doing this
  76. 2:31it's going to enable you to see and feel
  77. 2:32the run in segments you'll see the first
  78. 2:34FL the second FL the third four and so
  79. 2:36on so the Run becomes compartmentalized
  80. 2:39and easier for you to call over drive
  81. 2:41four or five roads each time don't drive
  82. 2:43more than that stop and learn those
  83. 2:45roads leave on left green Lanes right
  84. 2:47and right hbri new park left hybri Grove
  85. 2:49right some Paul's Road left and right
  86. 2:51hybri corner leave by upper street right
  87. 2:54barnsbury Street left Milner Square
  88. 2:56forward Milner Place forward into Gibson
  89. 2:58Square when you're r ing look at the Run
  90. 3:00read what you need to say and then look
  91. 3:02away don't hold your hand on the page
  92. 3:04and slide it down uncovering each Road
  93. 3:07at a time that's using a visual memory
  94. 3:09trigger you are not going to have that
  95. 3:11luxury you want to use the sound memory
  96. 3:13trigger you want to hear yourself say
  97. 3:15leave on left green lanes and that
  98. 3:16triggers the next words of right and
  99. 3:18right hary new park so don't do that
  100. 3:20technique you can now move on to run
  101. 3:21number two you can look at your whiz
  102. 3:23links to give you a guide of how to get
  103. 3:24to run number two or just open your
  104. 3:26MacBook figure out a route that you want
  105. 3:28to use to get to the beginning of run
  106. 3:29number two don't need to remember any of
  107. 3:31that you're just using it as a basic
  108. 3:33learning that subconsciously you might
  109. 3:35absorb some of that information but
  110. 3:36again you must remember your focus your
  111. 3:38whole focus is trying to learn these
  112. 3:40four runs that day try as little as
  113. 3:43possible to confuse Yourself by taking
  114. 3:44on extra data these four runs are going
  115. 3:47to be as much as you can cope with get
  116. 3:49yourself to the start of the next run
  117. 3:50and then follow the process the same
  118. 3:52drive four roads every time stop a four
  119. 3:54roads and learn those four roads drive
  120. 3:56another four add them together to make
  121. 3:58eight and call those eight roads get to
  122. 3:59the the end of the run and make sure you
  123. 4:01can call the whole run through from
  124. 4:02start to finish nice and smoothly and
  125. 4:05fluently if you can't you stay there
  126. 4:06until you can before you move on to the
  127. 4:08Third Run call the first run and the
  128. 4:10second run and see if you've got the
  129. 4:12fluency for both of them and then do the
  130. 4:14third run then do the fourth run when
  131. 4:16you finish the fourth run sit at the end
  132. 4:18of the fourth run you must do it there
  133. 4:19it's the best time you're going to sit
  134. 4:21now and be able to call all four runs
  135. 4:24from start to finish and you should be
  136. 4:26relatively smooth at calling all four
  137. 4:28runs and then go go home when you go
  138. 4:30home you now need to call all four runs
  139. 4:33you should be able to call all four runs
  140. 4:35in under 4 minutes as a minimum standard
  141. 4:37but hopefully you'll call all four runs
  142. 4:39in around 2 minutes 30 seconds a run is
  143. 4:42a nice steady talking Pace that's it for
  144. 4:44this video look out for further videos
