How To Install Mario Kart Wii On Hombrewed 3ds In 2026 Tutorial! — Transcript

1. 0:00Hello everybody, and welcome back to my
2. 0:03channel. Today we're going to be talking
3. 0:04about how to install Mario Kart Wii for
4. 0:07the 3DS, which is actually a very cool
5. 0:10thing which I've only just discovered
6. 0:11today. It came up on my TikTok and I was
7. 0:13like, hmm, I really want to have this on
8. 0:17the go. If I go out somewhere, I want to
9. 0:20be able to play Mario Kart Wii. No clue
10. 0:22if it works online or not,
11. 0:24but
12. 0:26it's really cool. I only tested it
13. 0:28briefly, but it works great. But I was
14. 0:31looking up like, where's the video
15. 0:33tutorials on this? And I genuinely could
16. 0:36not find a single bloody one. And I was
17. 0:39like, you know what? Since I've worked
18. 0:41it out myself,
19. 0:43and I followed the guide to get it
20. 0:44right,
21. 0:46I would just be like, okay, you know
22. 0:47what?
23. 0:49I'm just going to I'm just going to do
24. 0:51it. You know what I mean? I'm just going
25. 0:52to do it. It'll be so much simpler for
26. 0:54to put on YouTube. I'll be the first one
27. 0:56to do a tutorial on it, cuz no one's
28. 0:58done it yet as far as I've seen. I've
29. 0:59looked at all over YouTube and TikTok.
30. 1:01All I see is showcasing of it without
31. 1:03any sort of
32. 1:05um
33. 1:06you know, tutorial on how to install it.
34. 1:09So, anyways,
35. 1:11uh
36. 1:13the requirements for this is you're
37. 1:14going to have to have a PC with some way
38. 1:17of connecting your SD card to a PC. Like
39. 1:20I would recommend a USB to uh SD card
40. 1:24adapter,
41. 1:25or
42. 1:26a um
43. 1:28SD card slot on a laptop. This works on
44. 1:30any Windows laptop / PC or whatever. Um
45. 1:35but yeah, it's a it's a really cool
46. 1:37process and a real game that you would
47. 1:40definitely want on your 3DS. I just hope
48. 1:42that they do more like Mario Galaxy,
49. 1:44[music] maybe Smash or something like
50. 1:46that. Um the only difference between
51. 1:48installing it on an older system like a
52. 1:512DS or a 3DS or a 3DS XL is you get 30
53. 1:55frames per second. If you have it on the
54. 1:57newer ones like 2D new Nintendo 2DS uh I
55. 2:02think it's either three new Nintendo 3DS
56. 2:04or 2DS. It's one of the two. And then
57. 2:06you got new Nintendo 3DS XL and 2DS XL
58. 2:10you get 60 frames, which is fair enough,
59. 2:12right? But that's literally about it.

64. 2:24wouldn't say it's necessarily super
65. 2:25simple, but
66. 2:27it's pretty it's a pretty good way of
67. 2:29getting this. Like it took me a while to
68. 2:31figure it out, but I did get it in the
69. 2:32end.
70. 2:33Um
71. 2:35but just follow along with me and you'll
72. 2:36be fine.
73. 2:37Okay, let's get started on this
74. 2:39tutorial. So, to begin with
75. 2:42what you're going to want to do is you
76. 2:43want to go to this latest release for
77. 2:45MKW3DS. So, basically
78. 2:48it will um
79. 2:51it will install this it it will install
80. 2:53it into a zip file.
81. 2:55Uh extract it using WinRAR or 7-Zip or
82. 2:58even just a built-in file manager thing.
83. 3:01It extract it into a file.
84. 3:04Uh and
85. 3:05I will show you what you need to do in a
86. 3:07minute with that. Once that's done uh
87. 3:10you're going to need to install these
88. 3:11other [music] programs here
89. 3:13which is devkit pro.
90. 3:16Pretty simple to download it. All you
91. 3:18need to do is go to um downloads and go
92. 3:22to the latest version.
93. 3:24And then just install the EXE. Pretty
94. 3:27pretty simple, right?
95. 3:30Uh
96. 3:31then go to Python. You can download this
97. 3:33as well. You need it. And then go to
98. 3:36node as well. Just do that. Um I think
99. 3:38it's like these programs allow you to
100. 3:40edit codes and stuff for the game to
101. 3:43like pack into a CIA file, which is
102. 3:46installable on 3DS.
103. 3:48So, just download all of these things.
104. 3:50And also
105. 3:51you're going to need a ROM of Mario Kart
106. 3:53Wii from the US for this to work. It
107. 3:55doesn't work with the Europe versions.
108. 3:57Believe me, I tried. I just took my SD
109. 3:58card out of my Wii because I was
110. 4:00thinking, "Oh, it'd be so much easier if
111. 4:03I could just literally be like, okay,
112. 4:06I'm just going to take it out, drag and
113. 4:08drop it onto my downloads folder."
114. 4:10Uh and I tried using a Europe one, it
115. 4:12didn't work.
116. 4:14So, if you already if you're from the US
117. 4:17and you already have a US dumped file of
118. 4:19Mario Kart Wii, it'll be a lot more
119. 4:20simple than having to download it.
120. 4:22However,
121. 4:23I did get one off a website, wink wink.
122. 4:27And uh
123. 4:28yeah, you're going to need a a USA Wii
124. 4:30ROM for this to work, okay?
125. 4:33Um
126. 4:33so, you're going to need that. I'm going
127. 4:35to quickly show you kind of like where I
128. 4:38got mine from as it only took 20 minutes
129. 4:41and I know it works.
130. 4:43Um
131. 4:45but I got mine from
132. 4:47uh let me scroll down here cuz I
133. 4:49remember I I was searching for a little
134. 4:51bit. Ah, this one. Blue ROMs. Download
135. 4:54it from here if you haven't got it.
136. 4:55Simple as, pretty quick. I'm not going
137. 4:57to go on the website cuz YouTube might
138. 4:59try and take down my video, but um you
139. 5:01just click download and download it and
140. 5:03extract it like you would any other
141. 5:04game. If you're familiar with the
142. 5:06modding scene, you know what to do.
143. 5:08Um
144. 5:09but make sure your 3DS / 2DS is
145. 5:12homebrewed or else this won't work just
146. 5:13to make a note before we start this. So,
147. 5:15once they're all downloaded and you've
148. 5:17got everything sorted,
149. 5:19uh what you're going to want to do is go
150. 5:21to
151. 5:22um
152. 5:23all of these apps that I mentioned,
153. 5:26uh
154. 5:27it's going to go black for a second on
155. 5:28PC, but you're just going to want to go
156. 5:29next and uh download and install all
157. 5:33these programs as you would like any
158. 5:35other program. So, like uh
159. 5:38if my screen goes black, that's just
160. 5:40because it's uh
161. 5:41trying to install it, but you just
162. 5:42literally install all of these programs
163. 5:44and it allows you to alter the code,
164. 5:46basically, for it to be able to install
165. 5:48it. But then what you want to do is you
166. 5:50want to go to your Mario Kart Wii ROM
167. 5:51once they're all installed,
168. 5:54and then go to download something called
169. 5:55Wii Backup Manager, which you can easily
170. 5:57find online. It's a very easy
171. 5:59application to find.
172. 6:01Um once you've got it, then you want to
173. 6:02go to where your ROM is installed.
174. 6:04That's what it will look like if you use
175. 6:05that blue ROMs website [music] I'm on
176. 6:07about. You go to files,
177. 6:10downloads, WBFS, and then you transfer
178. 6:14it into a WBFS [music]
179. 6:15into downloads. It just makes it easier
180. 6:17to do it. And then once that's done, it
181. 6:19will be in a folder like this.
182. 6:22Like that. And then you just drag this
183. 6:24onto the downloads page. Uh delete the
184. 6:26file if you want, but as long as it's
185. 6:29there, it doesn't matter. So then what
186. 6:30you want to do is you want to go into
187. 6:32the MKW3DS
188. 6:34Builder,
189. 6:35and you're going to want to go to
190. 6:37uh
191. 6:38build MKWCIA,
192. 6:41which is the installable file for 3DS
193. 6:43systems.
194. 6:45Then go to run.
195. 6:47And then what it will ask you to do is
196. 6:49the ROM with Wii Backup Manager,
197. 6:52uh find the Mario Kart Wii folder, and
198. 6:55then I'm going to just going to move
199. 6:55this down here slightly. Drag and drop
200. 6:58it in,
201. 6:59and press enter. And then once you've
202. 7:01done that, it will come up with a bunch
203. 7:02of code. It's probably not going to work
204. 7:05for me because I've already got um
205. 7:08I've already got stuff installed. Like
206. 7:10I've still got it all in the files and
207. 7:12everything, so it's probably not going
208. 7:13to work. But for you, this should take
209. 7:15about an hour between an an hour and a
210. 7:17half for this to work.
211. 7:19Uh and just let it do its thing. Pause
212. 7:22the video, do whatever you want to do in
213. 7:24the meantime. Play a game for a few an
214. 7:26hour or two. And the reason it takes so
215. 7:28long, from what I know, is because it's
216. 7:30taking everything from that two gigabyte
217. 7:33game
218. 7:34and trying to install it onto like a 3DS
219. 7:37format. So it's basically like
220. 7:40compressing it in every single way. If
221. 7:42you haven't installed the programs
222. 7:43correctly, [music] it will tell you to
223. 7:44install it. It won't allow you to just
224. 7:46do it. Once you've done with like this
225. 7:48installation, literally all you need to
226. 7:50do is literally just you can just
227. 7:52uninstall the programs anyway off your
228. 7:54PC and that'll be about that.
229. 7:56Uh
230. 7:57but like once that's all done and all
231. 8:00that text is gone, you'll see a thing at
232. 8:01the bottom that says go to this path
233. 8:05within the file and it's it's this path
234. 8:08exactly. I'm going to show you now
235. 8:11um because I I was a bit confused at
236. 8:12first cuz it didn't really tell me
237. 8:14exactly what I needed to do. But you'll
238. 8:16see a build file which won't show up
239. 8:18unless it's successful.
240. 8:20If it comes up with oh, there's an error
241. 8:23or something like that, just try again
242. 8:25and if there's a still an error, just
243. 8:27try installing the programs again and it
244. 8:29should work.
245. 8:31But go to build, go to release
246. 8:34and then go to
247. 8:36MK3DS.CIA.
248. 8:38So I've already got my SD card in uh
249. 8:40plugged in.
250. 8:42Do the same for yourself now for your
251. 8:432DS system and if you've not got
252. 8:46something called CIA file on here, right
253. 8:50click,
254. 8:51go new folder and then call it CIA and
255. 8:55this is the best way of keeping control
256. 8:57of all your CIA CIA files which you
257. 9:00install via FBI on a modded 3DS system,
258. 9:03okay?
259. 9:04So what you want to do is you want to go
260. 9:06back to your downloads, go to this,
261. 9:09go to build, release
262. 9:13and then go to that and then drag it and
263. 9:16drop it into the CIA. I've already got
264. 9:18it installed so I'm not going to do
265. 9:19anything, but uh you just wait for that
266. 9:22to go over. Should take a minute or two
267. 9:24depending on your SD card and the model
268. 9:26of it, but it won't take too long
269. 9:27anyway.
270. 9:28Once you've done that, I will show
271. 9:30[music] you in a seconds what to do for
272. 9:333DS systems like when you've actually
273. 9:36sent it over and it's all working fine,
274. 9:38I will show you how to do that on the
275. 9:40actual system now.
276. 9:42Okay, I'll catch you guys in a second.
277. 9:46Okay guys, we are on the DS system. So,
278. 9:50what you're going to want to do is when
279. 9:52you get on here is go to your once
280. 9:54you've inserted the SD card back in,
281. 9:55which you have to do.
282. 9:57Uh go to your FBI. Sorry, I'm I'm
283. 10:00recording with one hand, so I'm trying
284. 10:01to scroll through. So, mine's like right
285. 10:04at the other end. I keep it all separate
286. 10:05from all my games and stuff.
287. 10:07As I don't really use it very much.
288. 10:10But, once you've done that, you're going
289. 10:11to want to find your FBI.
290. 10:14Enter the application.
291. 10:16And this is why I recommend having a CIA
292. 10:18file. You're going to want to go into
293. 10:19SD.
294. 10:20And then scroll down until you find CIA,
295. 10:24which is where mine is installed.
296. 10:26And then you're going to see Mario Kart
297. 10:29uh
298. 10:29uh 3DS or Wii and 3DS. Then what you're
299. 10:33going to want to do is install and
300. 10:34delete CIA. So, what that means is like
301. 10:36once it's installed, it removes it
302. 10:38completely. Because it's so much easier
303. 10:41than having to deal with like
304. 10:43uh
305. 10:44the more file taking up space. And
306. 10:46if you have them all racked up, it takes
307. 10:48a while to get rid of it. Then just wait
308. 10:50for that to install. It's going to take
309. 10:51about 20 minutes
310. 10:53due to the size of it. But, once it's
311. 10:55done, you should see an option on your
312. 10:573DS system
313. 11:00uh of like a like a present, like
314. 11:02you would installing any other game. So,
315. 11:05I've got mine installed over
316. 11:08over here. If I can just find it. I
317. 11:10don't know why there's a blank slot
318. 11:11there, but okay.
319. 11:12So, I'm going to go to my Mario games.
320. 11:16And there it is.
321. 11:19So, you just launch it. It launches like
322. 11:20any other 3DS game.
323. 11:24And you just go through this.
324. 11:29And there you go.
325. 11:31Then you just play the game as normal.
326. 11:34Uh it works very simple. You just play
327. 11:36it like any other game.
328. 11:38I'm just going to quickly like sprint
329. 11:39through this.
330. 11:42Then you just click okay, and then
331. 11:44essentially you're off. That's it. You
332. 11:47know, that is as simple as that.
333. 11:49It shows up.
334. 11:53And then you just play. It's that
335. 11:55simple. Like it's really cool.
336. 11:57Uh it's exactly the same, but they've
337. 11:59like modified it. You get the whole mini
338. 12:02map. It works exactly like Mario Kart 7
339. 12:04would. Ah, okay. So, I see what they've
340. 12:06done here. So, they've made it so you
341. 12:08can't use the Nintendo FC. But, yeah,
342. 12:11that's basically it.

344. 12:14Okay, sometimes you will get this after
345. 12:16exiting the game, but it's just simple
346. 12:19as shut down, turn off, turn back on. I
347. 12:22don't know why it does that, but it
348. 12:23occasionally does that. It's probably
349. 12:25because of the code or whatever. But,
350. 12:27yeah, that's how you go onto Mario Kart.
351. 12:30Wait, I will join you back on the PC in

368. 13:06motion controls
369. 13:07into just like buttons now, which is
370. 13:10really cool for the 3DS. Um

388. 13:46for example. You can might be able to
389. 13:47play like the Wii version of LEGO
390. 13:49Batman. And that'll be a very easy thing
391. 13:51to port. You can just hold a button to
392. 13:53access the batarang menu. It would be
393. 13:55really cool to be able to do stuff like
394. 13:56that. But
395. 13:58we'll figure it out in time. I'm sure
396. 14:00there'll be more games that come out. Um
