How to Increase Your Capacity — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00I'm Landon Shot. This is Spiritual
- 0:01Leadership, where we're helping leaders
- 0:03become spiritual leaders. Today, I'm
- 0:05going to be teaching you how to increase
- 0:07your capacity. Far too often, people
- 0:09look to the outside to help them
- 0:11increase capacity when you first need to
- 0:14look on the inside. I'm going to teach
- 0:15you how I learned to increase my
- 0:17capacity and how to increase your
- 0:20capacity. Let's get after it.
- 0:25>> [music]
- 0:37>> Far too many people hit capacity and
- 0:40immediately look on the outside for help
- 0:42or hire people instead of first
- 0:44increasing their own capacity. It would
- 0:47be like you having a an orange tree and
- 0:50you just go and pick the oranges that
- 0:52you can reach versus going to get a
- 0:54ladder and going to get the other ones.
- 0:56A lot of times there's much more
- 0:58capacity inside us than we realize. And
- 1:01we're always looking to outside sources
- 1:03instead of developing us as leaders.
- 1:06Capacity is spiritual and practical.
- 1:09Increasing your capacity increases your
- 1:11ability to produce spiritual fruit. You
- 1:14all know Luke 16. The Bible says,
- 1:16"Whoever is faithful with little will be
- 1:18rulers or be responsible over much."
- 1:22It's an important principle to
- 1:23understand that as we learn how to
- 1:26increase our capacity, God will entrust
- 1:28us with more things to lead. Early in my
- 1:32ministry, I would get frustrated with
- 1:34things I was going through or attacks of
- 1:36the enemy or uh leadership scenarios and
- 1:40I would pray and complain to the Lord.
- 1:43And one day I'm driving and I said this
- 1:45prayer to the Lord. It was kind of just
- 1:46a complaint. I said, 'Lord, I can't
- 1:48handle anymore. And as soon as I said, I
- 1:51can't handle anymore. The Lord corrected
- 1:53me. And here's what he said to me. He
- 1:54said, "You realize you're asking me not
- 1:57to bless you." I'm like, "No, no, I'm
- 1:58not asking you not to bless me. I want
- 1:59you to bless me. I'm telling you, I
- 2:02can't handle this stress. I can't handle
- 2:03this stuff." And here's what he
- 2:05corrected me again. He said, "No, you're
- 2:06asking me not to give you more things
- 2:09that will bless you." So I said to the
- 2:12Lord, "Okay, what am I supposed to
- 2:14pray?" And the Lord spoke to me and
- 2:16said, "Ask me for the ability to handle
- 2:19more." The Lord was teaching me
- 2:20stewardship. I just didn't know it was
- 2:22stewardship at the time. See, if you
- 2:24tell God you can't handle more, you're
- 2:27asking him not to bless you. You're
- 2:30asking him not to entrust you with more.
- 2:32What you're saying is, "Lord, I just
- 2:34want to steward little." Now, I know
- 2:37that's not what you're intentionally
- 2:38doing, but that is what's happening when
- 2:41you ask God to remove responsibilities
- 2:44or leadership from your life. You need
- 2:47to ask the Lord to increase your
- 2:50capacity. So, here's the wild part. No
- 2:52matter how good of a leader you are,
- 2:54everyone needs their capacity increased.
- 2:58So, today I'm going to give you my five
- 3:00steps for increasing your capacity. And
- 3:03this is how I've increased mine. Number
- 3:05one starts with identifying. You need to
- 3:08identify what are your most important
- 3:10goals, responsibilities or tasks. You
- 3:13need clarity. What are you responsible
- 3:15for? Whether your job, your ministry
- 3:17area, whatever it is. Proverbs 27:23
- 3:20says you need to know the conditions of
- 3:22your flocks. This means that you have to
- 3:24pay close attention to your
- 3:26responsibilities. What are the things
- 3:28that you're responsible for so that you
- 3:30could steward them well? If you do not
- 3:33identify, if you are not aware of
- 3:35everything that you're responsible for,
- 3:37it is impossible for you to increase
- 3:39your capacity because you're always spur
- 3:41the moment here, running over here, fix
- 3:43that, do this. You're not intentional
- 3:45with what you're doing. So, you need to
- 3:47identify what is everything that God has
- 3:50put in my care for me to steward. Step
- 3:53two, prioritize. This is the most
- 3:56important step of this strategy. If you
- 4:00want to increase your capacity, you must
- 4:02know what are your priorities. When I
- 4:04say priorities, here's what I mean.
- 4:06Priorities are the set of primary
- 4:08focuses, responsibilities, outcomes, or
- 4:11assignments that you steward in your
- 4:14role. This is important. What are the
- 4:16most important things that you have been
- 4:19tasked to do? If you hear one thing in
- 4:21this podcast, hear this. If you do not
- 4:24know your priorities, then it is
- 4:27impossible for you to increase your
- 4:29capacity. This is really where it
- 4:32starts. I hear this all the time. People
- 4:34want to be a better leader. They want to
- 4:36grow, but they cannot identify or
- 4:38articulate what they're responsible for.
- 4:41How in the world are you [snorts] going
- 4:43to get better at stewarding your
- 4:46assignments, increasing your capacity if
- 4:48you don't even know what's most
- 4:50important? Some people will push back
- 4:51and say, "Well, everything is most
- 4:53important." I would push back on you and
- 4:55say, "If everything's important, nothing
- 4:57is important." You must know in
- 4:59priorities what are the most important
- 5:02things. You steward and you're
- 5:04responsible. Priorities are different
- 5:06for everyone. Okay? So, different
- 5:08priorities exist and everyone has unique
- 5:11top priorities and they may not and most
- 5:14likely will not match. But we have to
- 5:16value each other's differences in our
- 5:18priorities. Just because they're
- 5:20different doesn't mean ours are better
- 5:22than theirs. It means that we value them
- 5:24differently or we have different top
- 5:26priorities. We really need team unity
- 5:29when it comes to priorities. This
- 5:30prevents offense or disunityity or
- 5:32friction because we're aware how we look
- 5:36differently at each other's priorities.
- 5:37So, let's talk about how to evaluate or
- 5:40order your priorities. So, you need to
- 5:42ask yourself, what are you responsible
- 5:45for or what do you do that no one else
- 5:47can do? What are you best at? What are
- 5:50your primary responsibilities? Is there
- 5:52anything that you're doing that you
- 5:54should not be doing? Is there anything
- 5:55you're doing and you don't know why
- 5:57you're doing it? Is there anything
- 5:58you're doing that isn't effective? This
- 6:00will help you determine what's the
- 6:02difference between a true priority and
- 6:05something that may just be important or
- 6:06something that you're passionate about.
- 6:08Now, this is important. Your passions
- 6:10are most likely not your priorities.
- 6:13Sometimes they can be, but not all the
- 6:15times they are. Usually when you're
- 6:16younger in life, the thing that you're
- 6:18most passionate about shouldn't be your
- 6:20priority. So, you need to learn that
- 6:22immature leaders do what they're
- 6:24passionate about most instead of
- 6:27figuring out what are their priorities.
- 6:29Self-reflecting questions could help you
- 6:32identify what your main priorities
- 6:34should be. If I could only do three
- 6:36things in life, three things in my job,
- 6:38what would they be? This will help you
- 6:40begin to narrow down what is the most
- 6:42important things in your life and are
- 6:45you doing the most important thing. Once
- 6:47you understand your priorities, it
- 6:49allows you to understand other people's
- 6:51priorities. This really helped in my
- 6:53marriage. Now, Heather and I's
- 6:55relationship is unique because we've
- 6:57been married for over 20 years. We're
- 6:58best friends, but we also work together.
- 7:01So, we work together in stewarding mercy
- 7:02culture. And as we work together, we
- 7:05would find ourselves where we would have
- 7:07friction at times. And the reason why we
- 7:09have friction at times were similar to
- 7:11uh race cars, you know, tearing off the
- 7:13the starting line together and they
- 7:14would bump into each other. There'd be
- 7:16friction as both of us are leading
- 7:17strong. We had to learn how to realize
- 7:21the difference in our priorities.
- 7:23Because she would say, "Hey, this is
- 7:25really important. Why are you acting
- 7:26like this isn't important?" What she was
- 7:27really saying is this is my number one
- 7:29priority. And I would respond and say,
- 7:31"No, that's a number five priority." So
- 7:34she would think this is my number one,
- 7:36but to me was number five. or vice
- 7:38versa, my number one might be her number
- 7:39three or four. And we found oursel in
- 7:42tension at times until we understood how
- 7:46we had different priorities. So it's not
- 7:48that hers are not more important than
- 7:50mine. It just means they are not in the
- 7:52same order. And when you understand each
- 7:55other's priorities, it will allow you to
- 7:56be a better teammate because you could
- 7:59understand why people come with the
- 8:00passion that they have because of the
- 8:03difference of priority. See, if you
- 8:05don't understand this, you could fall
- 8:06into the trap of siloing yourself. See,
- 8:09this is where you think that no one
- 8:11cares about what is important to me and
- 8:13and you make everybody else a bad guy
- 8:15and you're like, "No one cares about
- 8:17this." When the truth is is you care
- 8:19about it and it's your number one
- 8:21priority. So, you don't have to go and
- 8:23degrade and dishonor everybody else's
- 8:26number one priority. What you do is you
- 8:28show them this is important to me and
- 8:30this is why. See, if you have a a
- 8:33priority that no one else has in the
- 8:35entire organization, you may be out of
- 8:37alignment of vision. It may be something
- 8:40where you're doing something that you
- 8:41shouldn't be doing and you're trying to
- 8:43get everybody else to do something that
- 8:45only you want to do. We see this in Luke
- 8:4810 where Jesus corrects Martha for not
- 8:52having the same priorities that Mary
- 8:54had. So Martha was trying to get Mary to
- 8:57do what she was doing. And Jesus had to
- 9:00correct Martha and said, "Mary's
- 9:01priority is not your priority. Martha,
- 9:03your priority is serving. Mary's
- 9:05priority is sitting at my feet." Once
- 9:07again, they were at odds with each
- 9:10other. Martha was frustrated with Mary
- 9:12because their priorities were different.
- 9:15So until you learn how to properly
- 9:19increase the value of your priority,
- 9:21you're going to be at odds with other
- 9:23people. This is really important. You
- 9:25increase the value of your priority by
- 9:28stewardship is not by it being loud,
- 9:31obnoxious or dishonoring others. You get
- 9:35it noticed by the amazing stewardship
- 9:38you have for your priority. And when you
- 9:41steward it well, it will create value on
- 9:44someone else's priority. We have a
- 9:46ministry a part of mercy culture. It's
- 9:48called Return Texas. And during the year
- 9:50of reformation, God spoke to people in
- 9:52our congregation that used to be
- 9:54incarcerated to go and be a part of
- 9:56prison ministry and go to those people
- 9:58that are in prison and bring connect
- 10:00with God in ministry. So bunch of people
- 10:01from the church, they started doing it
- 10:03and it's been this thing that's just
- 10:05grown explosively. They're in some of
- 10:07the largest prisons in Texas and it's
- 10:09beautiful. It's all they've done is
- 10:11stewarded well what God told them to do.
- 10:14Now the value of it is coming up in our
- 10:17church. It's becoming more important to
- 10:19everybody because how well they have
- 10:21stewarded their ministry. Please let me
- 10:23help you spiritually grow. Complaining
- 10:27about your leaders, complaining about
- 10:30how much help you're getting will not
- 10:33help move your priorities up other
- 10:36people's lists. It will not create more
- 10:38value. Listen, you cannot dishonor your
- 10:41leaders and other people and create more
- 10:44value for what you're passionate about.
- 10:46You create value by stewarding it well.
- 10:49And here's the truth. When you steward
- 10:51something well, more than your leader
- 10:53seeing it, God sees it. See, David was
- 10:56stewarding well in a field. And God
- 10:58noticed him. And when you steward well,
- 11:00you don't need your leaders. You don't
- 11:02need your pastors. You don't need people
- 11:03to see it to finance it. You need God to
- 11:05see it. So steward well. Number three,
- 11:08it's time to remove stuff. See, you
- 11:10remove the items from your list that
- 11:13aren't your top priority. Acts chapter 6
- 11:16gives us some insight. It says this, "It
- 11:18is not right that we should give up
- 11:20preaching the word of God to serve
- 11:22tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out
- 11:23from among you seven men of God that
- 11:26have good reputations that we could
- 11:28devote ourselves to prayer and the
- 11:30ministry of the word." So, there was
- 11:31tension in the New Testament church.
- 11:34People were complaining that their needs
- 11:36weren't being met, the ministry wasn't
- 11:38being done. And Paul said this, "It is
- 11:40not my priority. My priority is prayer
- 11:43and the teaching of the word or
- 11:44ministry." So, watch what he did. He
- 11:47removed things from his list that are
- 11:50important to do, but they weren't his
- 11:52top priority. And it moves us to number
- 11:55four. The things that you removed from
- 11:58your list, those are what you empower.
- 12:00You empower the priorities or the tasks
- 12:03that are not your main ones. So,
- 12:06everything that you remove from your
- 12:07list, now you get to empower to other
- 12:10people. It's important that you
- 12:12communicate and train them clearly for
- 12:14their success. We see this in the Old
- 12:16Testament in Exodus chapter 18 where
- 12:19Moses imparted leadership and removed
- 12:21leadership and gave empowered
- 12:23leadership. And we see it in second
- 12:24Timothy where they did it in the New
- 12:26Testament. So again, here we are. We
- 12:29identify responsibilities, we
- 12:31prioritize, we remove, we empower, and
- 12:35then the fifth thing is we repeat the
- 12:37process every six months. You say, why
- 12:39do you do it every six months? because
- 12:41you're always increasing your capacity.
- 12:43So, this same thing will happen over and
- 12:45over approximately every 6 months to a
- 12:47year and you're going to have to repeat
- 12:49the process. People say this all the
- 12:52time. They say, "Landon, how do you
- 12:53accomplish everything that you do? All
- 12:55of the campuses and all the cities, all
- 12:57the ministries, how do you do it?" And
- 12:59the truth is is I don't do what you
- 13:01think I do. I do my priorities and I do
- 13:05them very well and I empower everything
- 13:08else. So mercy culture is constantly
- 13:11increasing because so many people are
- 13:13staying in their lane doing their
- 13:15assignment their their priorities and
- 13:17empowering everything else. Then
- 13:20everyone is increasing their capacity
- 13:23together and you're seeing this massive
- 13:26growth happen because so many people are
- 13:28at higher capacities leading at a high
- 13:31level. This is how I learned how to
- 13:33increase my capacity. And if you do
- 13:36these five steps, you will increase your
- 13:38capacity. So let's recap. Capacity is
- 13:41spiritual and it's a practical issue.
- 13:43Increasing your capacity is increasing
- 13:46your spiritual fruit. Priorities and
- 13:48empowerment are the key factors to
- 13:51increasing your capacity. [music] And
- 13:53you need to look on the inside before
- 13:55you focus on the outside. Let's pray.
- 13:58Jesus, you are the greatest leader who
- 14:00ever walked the face of the earth and
- 14:02you help us increase [music] capacity.
- 14:05So, Holy Spirit, I pray right now what
- 14:07you taught me to pray all those years
- 14:10ago. I pray that you would give me the
- 14:12ability [music] to handle and steward
- 14:14more. And I pray that over my friends
- 14:17right now. Would you give them the
- 14:19ability to handle and steward more? So I
- 14:22ask right now by your spirit, [music]
- 14:24would you increase the capacity and the
- 14:26ability to steward, Lord? I pray that
- 14:29your grace would be on us. I pray that
- 14:32you would teach us how to lead. [music]
- 14:33You would teach us how to lead like you.
- 14:35We ask this now in Jesus' name. We pray.
- 14:38Speak Lord, your servants listening.
- 14:40Amen.
- 14:45At Mercy Culture Spiritual [music]
- 14:46Leadership School, we recognize that
- 14:48leaders are everywhere, but spiritual
- 14:49leaders are developed. Spiritual leaders
- 14:51[music] walk with God and know his
- 14:52voice. The heart of our school is to
- 14:54raise up reformers who were able to
- 14:56spiritually [music] lead in any room
- 14:58they walk into. We do this through
- 14:59encounters, teaching and impartation,
- 15:02service, equipping, and activation. You
- 15:05can attend SLS in person or online. If
- 15:08you'd like more [music] information,
- 15:09text SLS to 5990.
- 15:15Let me give you [music] some practical
- 15:16advice. I have seven things for you
- 15:18today. Number one, implement steps one
- 15:21through five. Identify, prioritize,
- 15:24remove, empower, and re-evaluate. Do
- 15:27this every 6 months to a year. Number
- 15:30two, proactively seek and give feedback
- 15:33from trustworthy sources. Quickly
- 15:36identify why you resist feedback from
- 15:38others and how to give feedback quicker.
- 15:41This will help you increase your
- 15:43capacity because you're constantly
- 15:45learning and getting better at what you
- 15:47do. Number three, build trust quickly
- 15:50with people. Do not let time go by and
- 15:54lose the opportunities to build trust.
- 15:56At Mercy Culture, we say this, we lean
- 15:58into awkward. So, here's what that
- 15:59means. There's always these situations
- 16:02that things get awkward. And when things
- 16:03get awkward, most people lean away or
- 16:06pull away. And that's where a lack of
- 16:08trust gets in. So, when we feel weird
- 16:11stuff that causes us not to trust, we
- 16:13lean in and we build relationship. So
- 16:16you can't let days, weeks, and months go
- 16:18by when you feel awkwardness in your
- 16:20relationships. As soon as you feel that
- 16:22awkwardness, immediately real time, try
- 16:25to build trust. When you do this, you're
- 16:27going to increase your effectiveness,
- 16:29your capacity, and your teammates.
- 16:31Number four, embrace empowerment. I get
- 16:34asked all the time, what's the secret
- 16:35sauce of mercy culture? And there's no
- 16:37secret. It's just the sovereign favor
- 16:39grace of God. I I'm not a good enough
- 16:41leader. No one's a good enough leader.
- 16:42This is the divine hand of God. When I
- 16:44started the church, I was thinking about
- 16:46how many amazing ministries do I know of
- 16:48that have tons of great leaders coming
- 16:50out of them. And unfortunately, I
- 16:52couldn't think of them. Most of them
- 16:54were built around one guy or one
- 16:56ministry. So then I started thinking,
- 16:58what would it look like if we empowered
- 17:00people on a level I've never seen
- 17:02modeled before? Radical empowerment,
- 17:05scary empowerment. People can burn you.
- 17:07Empowerment. You come to Mercy Culture,
- 17:09if you're submitted, if you're part of
- 17:11this church, if you're committed to the
- 17:12culture, you will be empowered. And
- 17:14here's what we do. We empower with the
- 17:16108010 rule. What does that mean? 10% is
- 17:20casting vision. So the leader gives the
- 17:22first 10%. It's vision direction. The
- 17:24next 80% that's what we empower. You
- 17:27have 80% to run. That's a lot of
- 17:30decision-making power that you have.
- 17:32Then we'll give you 10% feedback. So
- 17:34here we go. You have 10% vision or
- 17:36direction, 80% empowerment, 10%
- 17:39feedback, and then your leaders are
- 17:41involved, but you're empowering new
- 17:42people to make a lot of decision to make
- 17:45high impact. Everybody increases their
- 17:47capacity. Number five, communicate
- 17:50clearly. Man, miscommunication is one of
- 17:54the fastest ways to mess up your
- 17:56organization to cause disunityity in the
- 17:58team. Constant opportunities, whether
- 18:01it's lack of tone in Slack messages or
- 18:03text messages or people joking and not
- 18:06sure if they were serious, all these
- 18:07different things can really break team
- 18:10unity and then in fact decrease
- 18:12capacity. So, here's something I do on a
- 18:15regular basis when I'm leaving a meeting
- 18:16that I may feel a little confusion,
- 18:18awkward, or tension. I'll say this, what
- 18:21did you hear me say? I will ask the
- 18:23person in the meeting to tell me despite
- 18:26what my words were, what did they hear
- 18:29when I said them? When they can
- 18:31articulate back to me what I meant, I
- 18:33know I communicated well. If they
- 18:35articulate back to me something I did
- 18:37not mean, I was like, "Okay, I need to
- 18:39communicate better." This will help us
- 18:41all increase our capacity. Number six,
- 18:43revisit the standards of your ministry
- 18:45or your life at least twice a year.
- 18:47Evaluate the major areas and make sure
- 18:50that you are raising the standards where
- 18:52you need and you're increasing in
- 18:54excellence. Do not just settle for
- 18:57random. Be intentional. Set standards
- 19:00then raise the standards. Finally,
- 19:02number seven, ask the Lord daily for the
- 19:05ability to steward and handled more.
- 19:08Just like we prayed together at the end
- 19:10of that teaching, put that a part of
- 19:11your daily encounter every day. Pray and
- 19:13ask the Lord to increase your capacity
- 19:15and make you a better steward. He will
- 19:18increase your capacity. The goal of the
- 19:21spiritual leadership podcast is that you
- 19:23will spiritually grow. With every
- 19:25episode released, you'll be equipped
- 19:26with a leadership guide. In every guide,
- 19:29we will review the information that was
- 19:31covered, reflect by asking questions to
- 19:33yourself, to God, and your teams, and
- 19:36apply what you've learned. It's going to
- 19:38be short, sweet, effective, and to the
- 19:40point. I don't want you just to listen
- 19:41to this podcast. I want you to be able
- 19:43to immediately apply it to yourself and
- 19:45the people you lead. So text podcast to
- 19:485990 and download the leadership guide
- 19:50with every podcast episode we drop.
- 19:54Asking questions is a great way to
- 19:56spiritually grow. I'm going to answer
- 19:57your questions about increasing
- 19:59capacity. First question, how can a
- 20:01leader know if they need to stretch
- 20:03their capacity or if they're already at
- 20:05their limit? Great question and I'd push
- 20:08back on that question. I don't believe a
- 20:09leader ever gets to the place where
- 20:12you're done increasing your capacity. So
- 20:15watch, you may be at your limit for a
- 20:18season, but remember in step number five
- 20:20was repeat the process every 6 months.
- 20:22The reason why that's a part of the step
- 20:24is to re reevaluate because you always
- 20:26get stronger. Think about when you
- 20:28worked out and you started at a certain
- 20:30weight and then you get stronger and you
- 20:31do more weight. Or when you ran and get
- 20:33ready for the Justice Marathon and you
- 20:35could only run a certain far or a
- 20:37certain length or certain time and then
- 20:38you beat it. So the longer you do
- 20:40something, your capacity should be more
- 20:43and more effective. I've been preaching
- 20:45the gospel for 20 years. I'm still
- 20:47working on increasing my capacity when
- 20:50[snorts] it comes to communication. It's
- 20:52this constant thing I'm working at. And
- 20:54so you may hit your limit, but here's
- 20:56what you need to understand is that your
- 20:58limit should only be a short period of
- 21:01time because you should be growing and
- 21:03getting better at what you're doing.
- 21:05Your priorities are constantly changing
- 21:08and then you're you're having those
- 21:10priorities that are not the top
- 21:11priorities moved off your list and
- 21:13empowered to other people. So it should
- 21:15be a constant process that the moment
- 21:17you're hitting capacity, you should be
- 21:19already removing things to gain a new
- 21:22capacity. Next question. If my plate is
- 21:24full and an opportunity comes that is
- 21:27outside my top five priorities, do I
- 21:30even need to pray about it? Yes and no.
- 21:32I would never want to answer a question
- 21:34ever that you shouldn't pray about
- 21:36something. You should always pray about
- 21:38stuff. Okay? I'm not talking about
- 21:39things that are unbiblical. You don't
- 21:41pray about leaving your spouse. You
- 21:43don't pray about, you know, uh adopting
- 21:45an unbiblical theology. But here's what
- 21:47I mean. If you're constantly with the
- 21:49Lord, daily encountering, and you're
- 21:51constantly seeking his heart and his
- 21:54mind, if those prayers are part of your
- 21:56daily prayer life, then you're always
- 21:59going to be leaning into what does the
- 22:01Lord want and what pleases him. And so,
- 22:04when you have that disposition, you'll
- 22:06always pray about things. I I I'll be at
- 22:08situations or or have conflict and
- 22:10Heather and I will disagree about
- 22:12something and then one of us will say,
- 22:13"Well, would you pray about it?" And I
- 22:15could be very very sure of what I want
- 22:17to do, but praying about it can shift
- 22:20things. It can shift priorities. So I
- 22:22would say always ask the Lord about
- 22:25important things. But when you're daily
- 22:27with the Lord, you should be feeling
- 22:29that synergy, that unity with the
- 22:32presence of God, with the perfect will
- 22:33of God. And you should be knowing his
- 22:35heart and mind. So when new things that
- 22:37are coming in, you should probably feel
- 22:39somewhat of, hey, this this this might
- 22:40be the Lord. And that's when you're
- 22:42really leaning in to pray specifically
- 22:44about those things if it should be one
- 22:45of the main priorities that you're
- 22:47participating in. Next question. Does
- 22:49increasing capacity come from adding
- 22:52more weight or from laying some down?
- 22:55Capacity comes from better stewardship.
- 23:00So when you steward better, you're rep
- 23:02prioritizing. You're better managing
- 23:04better systems, better strategy, more
- 23:07effective. So at [snorts] that you're
- 23:10able to add more weight. Laying down
- 23:13seems like you're giving something up. I
- 23:15don't like laying down. Empowering is
- 23:17different. So when you're empowering,
- 23:19you're giving what you were doing to
- 23:21someone else that can do it like you
- 23:23would do it. And you're giving them
- 23:25example. You're giving them an
- 23:26opportunity. You're giving them a
- 23:28platform for their leadership to grow.
- 23:31At the same time, you're still
- 23:33accomplishing a task or priority. So the
- 23:35overall mission is growing. You're just
- 23:37getting stronger together. So, yes, you
- 23:40add more weight and yes, kind of you lay
- 23:43it down, but it's really not laying
- 23:44down. It's empowerment. Next question.
- 23:46How do I maximize my influence and lead
- 23:49effectively in areas where I'm not
- 23:52passionate? Grow up. Immature people
- 23:56only live in their passions. I've done a
- 23:59teaching on healthy versus unhealthy
- 24:01teams. And people that don't operate in
- 24:04their passions, that don't hard work,
- 24:05that don't faithfully serve, that can't
- 24:07serve someone else's vision, they are
- 24:09usually the least effective, lowest,
- 24:12most immature leaders in the church
- 24:15world because they're selfish. They're
- 24:17unfocused, and they only prioritize
- 24:20what's important to them. You look at
- 24:22the greatest leaders that led in the
- 24:25Bible. You look at the Joshua's, you
- 24:27look at the Elishas, you look at the
- 24:30Timothys, all of them served other
- 24:32leaders. They became great leaders by
- 24:36serving other leaders. So your passion
- 24:39should be to please God. Your passion
- 24:41should be to serve the Lord. Jesus said
- 24:43the greatest in the kingdom are the
- 24:45servants. That's how he interpreted it.
- 24:48The what makes you a great leader is
- 24:50your ability to serve, not the
- 24:53motivation or the source of your
- 24:54passion. Last question. How do I
- 24:56increase my capacity without sacrificing
- 24:59my health or my family? That's a great
- 25:02question. It's really subjective on
- 25:04where you are in life and what your true
- 25:06capacity is. I meet young leaders all
- 25:08the time that are in their late teens,
- 25:11early 20s, not married, don't have kids,
- 25:13tired all the time, and have the the the
- 25:16capacity of a broken toy, and are not
- 25:18that effective. And the truth is is
- 25:20they're lazy, they're not hardworking,
- 25:22they don't have a strong threshold,
- 25:24they're not dedicated, they're not
- 25:25faithful. These are things they're in
- 25:27the process of learning. And so, it's
- 25:29going to take time to learn those
- 25:30things. Then there's other people that
- 25:32maybe you're a single mom and you want
- 25:35to be a part of the church constantly
- 25:37and involved in everything because you
- 25:40feel peace and you feel the presence of
- 25:42God and you feel life when you're around
- 25:43the community, but you got kids at home
- 25:46that need their mom. You have to make
- 25:48sure that your kids are doing that with
- 25:50you, that you're not doing it on your
- 25:52own and leaving them behind. So
- 25:54depending on your life circumstance will
- 25:56change the difference. Here's what I
- 25:58know keeps you healthy. What keeps you
- 26:00healthy is daily encountering and
- 26:02sabbathing well. If you do those things
- 26:05well, I have never met anyone who's
- 26:07unhealthy when they don't do those
- 26:10things well. Because when you're daily
- 26:12encountering, he's speaking to you. He's
- 26:15ministering to you. He's delivering you.
- 26:17When you're sabbathing, you're resting
- 26:18in God. You're getting your strength
- 26:20back. You're recharging. And usually
- 26:23when you do those two things well,
- 26:26you're going to increase your capacity
- 26:27despite what the things you're involved
- 26:29in. I wanted to take a moment and talk
- 26:31about one of the greatest injustices of
- 26:33our time. It's human trafficking. Right
- 26:35now, there are fewer than 700 long-term
- 26:39restoration [music] beds nationwide for
- 26:41survivors of human trafficking. I'm
- 26:43going to say that again. 700 nationwide
- 26:46with millions and millions of people
- 26:49that are trafficked. only [music] 700
- 26:51places for them to go to answer this cry
- 26:54of justice. Our church has birthed a
- 26:56ministry called the Justice [music]
- 26:58Reform. Right now in Fort Worth, Texas,
- 27:00the Justice Reform is building a
- 27:02long-term restoration home called the
- 27:04Justice [music] Residence. It will house
- 27:06up to 100 women rescued out of human
- 27:09trafficking. The Justice Residence is a
- 27:11biblically based and presence-driven
- 27:13[music] facility that will disciple
- 27:15hundreds of women into healing and
- 27:17restoration with Jesus. I wanted to ask
- 27:19you and invite you to become a [music]
- 27:21monthly partner with the justice
- 27:23residents. Help it make it possible for
- 27:25these women to have a [music] safe place
- 27:27to learn and grow in their relationship
- 27:29with Jesus. To join us in this fight and
- 27:31[music] to partner with us, text partner
