Full transcript
- 0:00how can you heal a sprained wrist
- 0:03extremely fast in this video I'm going
- 0:06to tell you my name is dr. story I've
- 0:07been a chiropractor for over 24 years
- 0:09I'm gonna give you realistic advice
- 0:11based on my experience now in the old
- 0:14days back in the 1970s which by the way
- 0:17was over 50 years ago the thought
- 0:20process behind a sprained wrist was that
- 0:24you would rest it you would ice it you
- 0:27would compress it and you would elevate
- 0:30it and that supposedly would make it
- 0:32heal faster most of the scientific
- 0:35literature has debunked that and
- 0:37actually found that non compressive
- 0:40joint motion is the best here's the
- 0:43reason why when you have an injury an
- 0:46inflammatory reaction occurs and you
- 0:49need blood to get to the area to bring
- 0:51oxygen and nutrients to heal that tissue
- 0:53the second thing that needs to occur to
- 0:55occur is the waste products from that
- 0:58injury need to escape if you do nothing
- 1:01but just lay in bed and just rest the
- 1:05area then that exchange rate occurs much
- 1:09slower so let's say that you sprained
- 1:12your wrist here's what you should do
- 1:14very lightly without too much pain but
- 1:19it will hurt a little is you want to
- 1:21move the wrist back and forth just like
- 1:24this so if I sprained my wrist you will
- 1:26just move it back and forth now it's not
- 1:29unheard of to do a hundred repetitions
- 1:33multiple times per day meaning 3-4 times
- 1:36per day then what you're going to do is
- 1:39just like side to side this motion to is
- 1:42another movement that you can occur that
- 1:46you can do and what you'll find is that
- 1:49the wrist will heal faster now I have
- 1:53this this is a way another way to get
- 1:56blood and fluid exchange in that area
- 1:59what you would do is you would wrap the
- 2:01wrist very very tightly and I'm gonna
- 2:04take this band
- 2:07and tighten it around my wrist now
- 2:10initially what you're doing is you're
- 2:12compressing the area but only
- 2:14temporarily and what you would do while
- 2:17this is on is try to move the wrist a
- 2:19little bit and after about thirty
- 2:22seconds you're gonna let it go and
- 2:25you're gonna feel a rush of blood going
- 2:27to that area and then you would move it
- 2:29again these are two techniques that are
- 2:32very effective it's kind of the dirty
- 2:34little secret of sports medicine that if
- 2:36you want to get things to heal faster
- 2:40you're going to lightly move them
- 2:42whereas if someone comes in to my office
- 2:46with a sprained ankle and they're
- 2:47they're not athletic and they don't need
- 2:49it to heal faster and they don't want to
- 2:52do anything for it then you could just
- 2:55let them rest it but it will take longer
- 2:57so if you thought this was interesting
- 2:59give it a try
