- 0:00Most school creators don't fail because
- 0:02school is hard. They fail because they
- 0:04never finish anything long enough for it
- 0:06to work. If you're burnt out from your 9
- 0:08to5 on your third school idea, secretly
- 0:11wondering why you're just not cut out
- 0:13for this, this episode is for you. My
- 0:16guest today has helped a ton of late
- 0:18career professionals escape the
- 0:209-to-five grind and actually build a
- 0:22business they don't hate. He used to run
- 0:25two podcasts, hundreds of episodes, and
- 0:27he sees the same pattern over and over
- 0:30again. Distraction, comparison, and
- 0:32quitting too early. In the next hour,
- 0:34we're going to break down why most
- 0:36people never get their school community
- 0:38off the ground, how to rebuild your
- 0:40focus and confidence, and the simple
- 0:42daily reps that take you from lurking to
- 0:45actually making money. Stay to the end
- 0:47because I'm going to ask Brian for a
- 0:4930-day checklist you can literally copy
- 0:51and paste and follow after this episode.
- 0:54Welcome back to the channel, guys. I'm
- 0:56Adnan and on this episode, we go deep
- 0:59with top school community owners to
- 1:01figure out what's actually working in
- 1:03the trenches. Not theory, but what's
- 1:05happening inside real communities right
- 1:08now. Today, I'm with Brian O'Neal. He
- 1:10runs Mindset School. He hosted over 300
- 1:13podcast episodes and being a guest on 50
- 1:16plus shows. But the reason why I wanted
- 1:18him on this is that most of what Brian
- 1:21does is not school tactics. It's fixing
- 1:24the person running the community. So the
- 1:27tactics finally have a chance to work.
- 1:29If you're in your 40s, 50s, maybe 60s,
- 1:32burnt out from corporate, tried a bunch
- 1:35of things that didn't work, you're
- 1:36distracted, overwhelmed, and close to
- 1:39quitting, this conversation is for you.
- 1:41Brian, thanks for being here, man.
- 1:43>> None. Thank you for having me. This is
- 1:46awesome. Great introduction, by the way,
- 1:47and I'm excited for this episode.
- 1:49>> Truly welld deserved, my man. It's going
- 1:51to be great. So, for people who don't
- 1:53know um who you are, they don't know who
- 1:55who you know what what you do. Um they
- 1:59probably haven't seen you before. Who
- 2:00were you before school? Um, and W2
- 2:04prison break cuz I know that you've done
- 2:06um something
- 2:08a program that was W2 uh prison break.
- 2:11You don't have to talk about that, but
- 2:13what were you doing before that? And
- 2:14what was the exact moment you realized I
- 2:17can't do this thing anymore? I can't be
- 2:19in the corporate world anymore. I can't
- 2:22do this life anymore. What did the uh
- 2:26next 30 days actually look like for you
- 2:28when you finally had that realization?
- 2:30Okay. So, who I was before, I was
- 2:32basically the person that you just
- 2:34described, okay, in the in in the intro,
- 2:36which was I had a bunch of I'm I'm I'm
- 2:38well known as the 26 different side
- 2:41hustles in 14 years. Like, I counted
- 2:43them all up. And I worked a corporate
- 2:45job for 25 years. I was a sales I was a
- 2:48sales guy, same company for 17 years.
- 2:51And
- 2:52for the majority of my professional
- 2:55career, I was kind of okay with it. But
- 2:59as I started to advance in my 9to-5 and
- 3:02I saw what I would have to do to get to
- 3:05the higher level incomewise,
- 3:07[snorts] I didn't want that life. I'm
- 3:09like, I don't want that. I I don't want
- 3:10to have to do that. That doesn't seem
- 3:12worth it to me. And then I had a son. I
- 3:15had a son. He was born and he's 14 years
- 3:18old now. But at the time I was traveling
- 3:21a lot. I was flying 100,000 miles per
- 3:23year. I was gone all the time. I was
- 3:25missing this kid grow up. And you asked
- 3:28about the moment, right? So, I had all
- 3:29these failed attempts or I had and it
- 3:31wasn't it wasn't that I they failed.
- 3:33It's that I never gave them enough time.
- 3:35I gave up on all of them. I quit because
- 3:38it didn't happen fast enough and I just
- 3:40chase the next shiny thing, which I'm
- 3:42sure we'll talk about in this episode.
- 3:44But I remember that my son when he was
- 3:47young enough, maybe four or five years
- 3:50old at the time, he used to tell me,
- 3:51"Dad, I don't like it when you leave. I
- 3:52don't like it when you leave. I'm scared
- 3:54to be in the house by myself." And I
- 3:56remember thinking to myself at that
- 3:57point, I was like, "Man, this is that's
- 3:59pretty tough to hear because my father
- 4:01did the same thing when I was growing
- 4:02up." And I remember how I felt. And I
- 4:04just said to myself, you know what,
- 4:06Brian, you're just as capable as anyone
- 4:08else. You got one shot to watch this kid
- 4:10grow up. And I'll be damned if I'm going
- 4:12to miss it. And that was the moment
- 4:14right there. I went and I did the next
- 4:16thing. And side hustle number 27 was the
- 4:19one that got me out of my 9 to5. It took
- 4:21me nine months. It actually took me 14
- 4:23years if we're getting real here. But
- 4:25then it took nine months to get out and
- 4:27I messed that one up too because I
- 4:29committed a lot of the crimes that you
- 4:30mentioned in the beginning. But that was
- 4:32really the moment that that I was like
- 4:34kind of I call it the end of the rope,
- 4:35right? You're at the end of the rope.
- 4:37You've had enough of of of being sick
- 4:39and tired and that was the thing that
- 4:41that brought me to the edge. And the
- 4:44thing I still go back to when I want to
- 4:47quit business because this is important
- 4:49for all the listeners is there are two
- 4:52guarantees I make everyone. you will
- 4:54want to quit, but it won't be as hard as
- 4:57you think it's going to be. And whenever
- 4:58I think about quitting, I think about
- 4:59those words and I just say to myself,
- 5:01he's never saying that to me again. And
- 5:03then I just keep going.
- 5:04>> That's beautiful to hear, man. I've got
- 5:06a son. I've got two actually. And the
- 5:09thought that I'm going to be away from
- 5:11them the whole day and I'll only see
- 5:13them maybe a couple of hours in the
- 5:15weekend. It's it's a it's big. It's
- 5:19heavy on the shoulders like you cuz you
- 5:22only get one chance to watch them grow
- 5:23up. Then once they get to like 10, 11,
- 5:2612, you've already lost them cuz now
- 5:28they're going to start looking at
- 5:31someone else as a role model. You've not
- 5:33been there for them when they really
- 5:34needed you at that time. And I I
- 5:37literally hear my son talk to me like,
- 5:39"Dad, I need you. Dad, can you do this
- 5:42with me?" And yes, sometimes I'm busy
- 5:45doing things, you know, working for
- 5:47myself, but then at least I've got the
- 5:49chance to actually be with him. So I
- 5:53talk to myself and I say, "Do you know
- 5:54what Adnan, stop right now. Your son
- 5:57needs you more. So go and do the thing
- 5:59with him that he wants to do." And then
- 6:01he you can see his face lit lights up
- 6:05when he hears, "Yes, let's go and do it.
- 6:06Let's let's play. Let's whatever."
- 6:08Right?
- 6:09And
- 6:11imagine if I wasn't if I was working a 9
- 6:14to5 or doing something else, right? Like
- 6:16that I'm not with him. How would it feel
- 6:18to him? And how would it feel to me? Cuz
- 6:19you feel guilty every single day, right?
- 6:21That you're not with them, don't you?
- 6:23Like when you used to do the 9 to5, you
- 6:26felt so guilty that you couldn't watch
- 6:28your son grow up. And it's like you're
- 6:31losing your life is being lost right in
- 6:33front of your eyes.
- 6:34>> How does that feel?
- 6:35>> I hated it. I I literally I I was
- 6:37already I was already missing something
- 6:39because I knew that I had more in me. I
- 6:42had more to offer the world in terms of
- 6:44you know my business and my
- 6:45capabilities. I was just scared, you
- 6:48know. I was just all the all the things
- 6:50that we all fear, which is, you know,
- 6:52hey, no one's I'm not good enough or,
- 6:54you know, no one's going to pay
- 6:56attention to anything that I have to
- 6:57say. And and after and and really that's
- 7:00all just excuses, right? That that's
- 7:02those are all excuses. And we could
- 7:04certainly get into that, but it just
- 7:06came down to
- 7:09I'm not going I do not accept missing
- 7:12him grow up because I just remember how
- 7:14I felt when my dad was gone all the
- 7:16time. And it's not that he did what he
- 7:18had to do. And we can be the ones like
- 7:22you and I like what you're doing for
- 7:23your for your for your sons, which is so
- 7:26awesome. We can be the ones to change
- 7:29the narrative on that. Right. And now
- 7:31he's seeing from me like, hey, I don't
- 7:34have to go to a nineto-5. Like, dad's
- 7:36doing the business thing. I can go down
- 7:39that path, too. So, there's there's so
- 7:42much good from it. And I thank him all
- 7:44the time because I tell him he doesn't
- 7:45know that he did it. But I said, "Hey,
- 7:47man. I just wanted to let you know. I
- 7:48appreciate you giving me the courage to
- 7:50take my to take my shot and quit being
- 7:52afraid because he was the one who had to
- 7:54tell me." It's almost like he knew
- 7:55innately. He's like, "Dad needs a push.
- 7:57He needs somebody to push him over the
- 7:59edge." And he did it. Amazing. Really
- 8:01great to hear. So, obviously we can talk
- 8:03about this. This really needs a whole
- 8:06episode on its own, but we can't really
- 8:08give it too much time. I want to talk
- 8:09about stuff like if people are feeling
- 8:13this feeling and they want to really
- 8:15start their business and and finally get
- 8:17that freedom to spend time with their
- 8:19family and stuff like that, what do they
- 8:21actually need to do and how to get past
- 8:24those fears? Cuz we all have those fears
- 8:26innate within us. It's how we deal with
- 8:28those fears and how we push past that
- 8:30barrier is what really matters here. So,
- 8:33we'll talk about that in a bit. But what
- 8:34I want to know is who is the typical
- 8:37person you help? Now, talk to me about
- 8:40their age, situation, fears, and when
- 8:44they first find you, what mental state
- 8:46are they in?
- 8:47>> They're in a similar mental state. The
- 8:50at least the ones that are ready to act,
- 8:52right? Like ready to go into maybe one
- 8:53of my paid groups, they're in a similar
- 8:56situation. Maybe not the exact thing
- 8:58that I described, but they've worked a
- 9:00job for maybe 15, 20 years. They've
- 9:04tried a bunch of things, it hasn't
- 9:06worked, and they're at their they
- 9:09they're at that end of the rope, right?
- 9:11I don't mean to sound cryptic, but it's
- 9:12like, okay, the older we get, this is
- 9:15what happens to to to people who age and
- 9:18become more able. It's they are more
- 9:21fearful of losing time than they are of
- 9:24money.
- 9:26They feel like they're running out of
- 9:27time. So someone who's in their 40s or
- 9:2950s are like, "Man, I I this has to work
- 9:32this time. Otherwise, I'm going to run
- 9:34out of time, which is just crazy." And
- 9:36they know what it is crazy because I
- 9:38have people that are in my higher level
- 9:40mastermind group that are in their 70s
- 9:42and they're not ready to give up. So
- 9:44it's all a perspective. It's a mindset
- 9:46shift. And there's there's so much
- 9:49revolved around why people don't start.
- 9:52What they need to do number one is
- 9:54understand that and you alluded to it a
- 9:57second ago is everyone thinks that
- 9:59confident people are not scared. That's
- 10:02completely incorrect. I get scared all
- 10:05the time.
- 10:06>> They just do it.
- 10:07>> They just do it.
- 10:08>> They just do it anyway.
- 10:09>> That's what that's the difference. Like
- 10:10there you and me were not not scared.
- 10:14Okay. I was scared to do this show. When
- 10:16you asked me I was like, "Oh, this is
- 10:18kind of nerve-wracking. I haven't done
- 10:19this in a while." But the difference
- 10:21between me now and 5 years ago is I
- 10:26recognize it much faster and I'm like,
- 10:27"Oh, there's that little imposter
- 10:28syndrome on the shoulder. I just flick
- 10:30it off." It's like, "No, no, no. You've
- 10:31done 300 episodes." And also, he asked
- 10:33you, "Okay, whereas the other person
- 10:36who's who is still stuck in their head
- 10:39would spiral and go out of control and
- 10:40probably like fake an illness or
- 10:42something, but to not come on the show,
- 10:44right? That's the difference. We do it
- 10:46anyway. we find a way to face our fears
- 10:49and keep going because like I said it's
- 10:51not as scary as we think it is.
- 10:53>> Yeah. And the most important thing and
- 10:55from what I've seen as well to add to
- 10:57that is like you said people that
- 11:01accomplish things they just do it
- 11:02anyway. They recognize that they are
- 11:04scared and they just push that fear away
- 11:07and just do it anyway. And the doing is
- 11:10what gets them past to to to uh past
- 11:14that fear factor and past that blockage
- 11:17that they have and to actually start
- 11:18seeing results. Cuz results only come
- 11:21from doing. Like you cannot not do and
- 11:24expect results. Like the definition of
- 11:25insanity is doing the same thing over
- 11:27and over again and expecting a different
- 11:29outcome. If you're not taking the
- 11:32initiative and going past your fears and
- 11:35and figuring out your issues and just
- 11:37doing it anyway, you will keep getting
- 11:39the same results that you've been
- 11:41getting all this time. So, what has to
- 11:44be a a different variable here is the
- 11:47doing part, right? Just do it anyway.
- 11:50Who cares? And that's the mindset that
- 11:52we like to adopt is just do it anyway.
- 11:56So from your vantage point, Brian, what
- 11:58actually kills most school communities
- 12:01before they ever make real money from
- 12:04what you see every single day?
- 12:05>> Distraction. That that that is the
- 12:07biggest thing. School communities.
- 12:10There's I'm very opinionated on a lot of
- 12:12these things. Not everyone's going to
- 12:13agree with me. Um,
- 12:16one of my biggest moves, my biggest
- 12:19power moves over the the last 18 months
- 12:21has been my ability to say no to things.
- 12:24I'm not in a lot of school communities.
- 12:27I don't do anything really. I don't
- 12:29really do anything else other than this
- 12:31because that has always led to my
- 12:32downfall. And I will give you a perfect
- 12:34example. Side hustle number 27, the one
- 12:36that worked, the one that got me out of
- 12:38my job was a real estate business that I
- 12:40had started. I was I was doing a real
- 12:41estate business and I built it up. I
- 12:43more than three and a half time two and
- 12:45a half times my income in 18 months from
- 12:47my nineto-ive job. And you know, I got
- 12:50puffed up by a bunch of people and
- 12:52Brian, you're great. And the ego started
- 12:53to roll and I said, "You know what? I'll
- 12:54just do a podcast or I'll do some sales
- 12:56consulting or I'll do this too." And
- 12:58guess and you know the how this story
- 13:00ends. I took on all these different
- 13:02projects and the whole thing blew up in
- 13:04my face. It was because I became
- 13:08distracted
- 13:10and
- 13:11the people who I work with who have
- 13:15acquired and amassed a bunch of skills
- 13:17over their life, they are under the
- 13:20illusion that they they can and should
- 13:23do all of them. When you know this to be
- 13:26true, one business, we do one thing and
- 13:30we focus on that. to go all in because
- 13:32if you try to chase two or three
- 13:33different businesses, they're all going
- 13:35to get away from you. If you try to
- 13:36chase two rabbits, they're both going to
- 13:38get away. I've yet to see someone brand
- 13:40new from scratch who's never done a
- 13:42business before
- 13:44manage three at the same time. Yet,
- 13:46everyone thinks that they can do it and
- 13:48it's a it's a huge mistake. So, the
- 13:50distractions are what kill it. And they
- 13:52just can't stay focused. They have too
- 13:54many ideas and they can't pick one
- 13:57because they put so much pressure on the
- 14:00pick. You hear Horoszi talk about this
- 14:02all the time, the fallacy of the perfect
- 14:03pick. Like it doesn't matter what
- 14:04business you pick. They can all work,
- 14:06but they can't all work at the same
- 14:08time. You got to pick one and you got to
- 14:10go all in on it. And you can't go all in
- 14:12on it for 3 weeks or 30 days. Like you
- 14:14got to get married to the thing.
- 14:15>> Yeah. Just focus on that one thing
- 14:18because if your focus is fragmented, you
- 14:21literally cannot give it 100%. You'll
- 14:23give 30% 33% to all the three things,
- 14:27but we know that if you give 30% of your
- 14:29effort, you're not going to accomplish
- 14:30anything. And then you're going to
- 14:32you're going to start getting
- 14:33frustrated. Why is this not working?
- 14:35Well, simple. Because you're doing too
- 14:37many things at the same time, right? I
- 14:39love what Hoszi
- 14:42um says about I don't know if you've
- 14:44heard of his theory of deletion. Delete
- 14:48before you start adding. So like pick
- 14:51all your you know your daily activities
- 14:54everything that you're doing audit them
- 14:56and then completely deleting all the
- 14:58things that give you negative ROI or no
- 15:01ROI at all and only double down on the
- 15:05things that give you positive ROI.
- 15:08So if one thing is started to work then
- 15:10delete everything else. Just focus
- 15:12double down on that
- 15:14and um that that's when people will
- 15:17start seeing results and it doesn't
- 15:19happen straight away. It doesn't happen
- 15:21immediately like people need to give it
- 15:23time.
- 15:24>> Yeah.
- 15:24>> Right.
- 15:25>> You do at the end of the day it's like
- 15:28>> so gone.
- 15:29>> I'm saying that's boring too. Like it's
- 15:30because what you describe the the the
- 15:33few things is usually something that's
- 15:35not very exciting. And I think that's
- 15:37why people switch from from shiny object
- 15:39to shiny object is because they get
- 15:41bored.
- 15:41>> Yeah. Exactly. And they they just chase
- 15:44the adrenaline of oh this is new. Oh
- 15:47yeah. You know that dopamine hit of oh
- 15:49yeah I'm going to make it work in this
- 15:51and then something else comes up. Oh
- 15:53that person talks about this. Let me go
- 15:55and try it. And then literally all they
- 15:58keep doing is jumping from one thing to
- 16:00another, right?
- 16:02and never actually seeing anything
- 16:05through.
- 16:07No, never. And then they say, "Well,
- 16:09nothing worked for me." Well, because
- 16:11all you keep doing is jumping. You're
- 16:14not actually giving time and effort to
- 16:17one thing to really figure it out
- 16:18yourself. Because what I've noticed, and
- 16:20I'm sure you'll, you know, maybe'll
- 16:23confir can confirm that as well, is it
- 16:25takes time for anything to work cuz
- 16:28you're going to face problems. You'll
- 16:30face issues. You'll face hurdles. You'll
- 16:33face things not working. You will fail.
- 16:36It's a point of it's it's literally
- 16:39what's going to happen. You will fail.
- 16:41You need to accept that, right? And then
- 16:43from the failure, that's when the
- 16:46lessons will come out and then you'll
- 16:48start learning from those lessons and
- 16:50then start testing different things
- 16:51until something works. And then when it
- 16:54works, you'll double down on it. But
- 16:56people don't get to the point of failure
- 16:57or when they fail, they'll give up and
- 16:59they move to the next thing.
- 17:01It's like it's a vicious cycle and it's
- 17:04never ending and it will never get you
- 17:05past to actually seeing results. What do
- 17:09you think about that?
- 17:10>> I mean, I it almost sounds like we've
- 17:13made the same YouTube videos because I
- 17:15literally talk about this stuff all the
- 17:16time. So, it's and the the irony of that
- 17:20is that the people who are doing that,
- 17:23they know that they're doing that. They
- 17:24know that that's their pattern. And
- 17:27before I talk to anybody about business,
- 17:29I always want to talk about their cycle.
- 17:32Like you got to break the cycle, which
- 17:34is why the too many ideas problem needs
- 17:37to be corrected straight away. It's like
- 17:39just pick one thing and go all go all in
- 17:41on it for as long as you can to prove to
- 17:45yourself that you can finish something.
- 17:47Most of these mid-career professionals
- 17:48that I work with who are, you know,
- 17:50mid-career, you know, 40s, 50s, if you
- 17:53think about this and and and I hope this
- 17:55lands with people, let's just say
- 17:58hypothetically you have a 9 to5 and
- 17:59you're making $100,000 per year. Well,
- 18:02to get to that point, you had to go to
- 18:04school for 12 years. You had to go to
- 18:06you had to go to a university for an
- 18:08advanced degree, more likely for four
- 18:10years. Then you had to work that job for
- 18:12probably 10 years. So, a very very long
- 18:16time to get to where you are right now
- 18:18in your life. And this is the part that
- 18:20that cracks me up and I also fell for
- 18:23this too is everyone wants to replace
- 18:25that six figure salary in 90 days,
- 18:28right? 90 days working two hours per
- 18:31day. And if you see that marketing, I
- 18:34tell everyone when you see that on the
- 18:35internet, when you see people selling
- 18:37that nonsense, I want you to click the
- 18:38three dots and say unfollow or or
- 18:40because it's not possible. I've yet to
- 18:42meet anyone to do that. And that is the
- 18:45unfortunate brainwashing that happens.
- 18:47Like this this takes years to get to the
- 18:51point where you start to figure it out.
- 18:53And if you don't give yourself enough
- 18:56time, you are just going to continue to
- 18:58reset the set the clock. And pivoting
- 19:00crushes dreams. Like you you will wake
- 19:03up 10 years from now and you will be
- 19:05filled with anger, resentment, regret.
- 19:08And you it's totally self-inflicted. You
- 19:10can avoid it. 100%.
- 19:12>> Amazing. You know what? This is exactly
- 19:14what I talk about. And even to my Arabic
- 19:16community, this is literally what I talk
- 19:18about. Why does it take you 17, 18 years
- 19:21to get a master's degree and you never
- 19:23deviate? You have one goal. I'm going to
- 19:25get my master's degree and you keep
- 19:28following it. You follow the path. This
- 19:30is just to get a degree 18, 17, 18
- 19:32years, right? You never deviate. You
- 19:35finally get your master's degree. Now
- 19:38there comes the internship to get the
- 19:41job. You're doing an internship for like
- 19:43six months to a year just to get a job.
- 19:46Maybe that job will give you enough
- 19:48money. I don't know how much you're
- 19:49going to earn. You you don't even know
- 19:51whether you're going to get the job or
- 19:52not. So here's the risk. Right? So a lot
- 19:55of people don't want to take the risk.
- 19:57Tell me this is not a risk. [laughter]
- 19:59Okay? So one year to get a job. Let's
- 20:01say you got a job entry level salary.
- 20:05You're not happy with the salary
- 20:07anymore. You're not happy with the job
- 20:08anymore. Now you start looking at, you
- 20:11know, a side hustle or start looking at
- 20:13replacing that job, right?
- 20:16Why is it how does it how is it logical?
- 20:21How is it realistic for you to be able
- 20:23to achieve a better result moneywise
- 20:27in say two months, three months because
- 20:30you want to do it in two months, 3
- 20:31months when you couldn't do it in 18,
- 20:3419, 20 years
- 20:37in a different way, in a new way that
- 20:39you're just learning if in a new way
- 20:42that you just found found out about
- 20:44please tell me how realistic is it and
- 20:46why are you thinking this way? Now this
- 20:48is what people need to do. They need to
- 20:49start thinking why am I thinking like
- 20:52this? They need to figure out the root
- 20:54of their belief. What made them believe
- 20:58this? What made them figure out that
- 21:00this is
- 21:03this is their expectation? 3 months,
- 21:05four months, 5 months, 1 year to be able
- 21:07to replace their salary. Yes, it is
- 21:09possible. But who installed the idea in
- 21:11you? Is it all those marketing messages,
- 21:13all those gurus? Is it all those people
- 21:15that say, "Oh, you can do it this way
- 21:17very quickly." Blah, blah, blah. Right?
- 21:19You can, you know, have these amazing
- 21:22things in such a such a very short
- 21:24period of time. Is it just marketing? Is
- 21:26it just hype? What is it? So, this is
- 21:28when you really need to think about
- 21:31your beliefs and where you got them from
- 21:33and really start being realistic. And it
- 21:35all comes down to real hard work and
- 21:39testing and trying and, you know,
- 21:41failing and learning from your mistakes
- 21:43and all that kind of stuff.
- 21:44>> Yeah, you nailed it. There there's no
- 21:48there's no sugar coating any of this.
- 21:51This is all this all comes from effort.
- 21:53People are looking for shortcuts and
- 21:55hacks and you know, one of the the one
- 21:57of the posts I made in in in schoolers
- 21:59was hacks are stupid. Like it's just
- 22:02while they exist and and shortcuts and
- 22:04and and efficiencies exist
- 22:07flat out
- 22:08>> luck as well. Some people can get lucky.
- 22:10>> They can they can but that usually runs
- 22:12out, right?
- 22:13>> You know, and look, you don't have to
- 22:15wait another 20 years to get what you
- 22:17want. But you got to wait more than 90
- 22:19days, man. I mean, come on. Come on. You
- 22:22know, it's just
- 22:23>> the mindset is for me is as long as it
- 22:27bloody takes. as long as it takes ju
- 22:31just like you worked for 20 years right
- 22:35do the same thing just don't have any
- 22:37expectation I think a lot of people why
- 22:39they fail is because they put uh a timer
- 22:42right they say I need to achieve this
- 22:44within that this time frame and if it
- 22:47doesn't work then that means I'm not
- 22:48going to try again or this whole thing
- 22:50doesn't work they need to really start
- 22:53thinking I need to learn the skill in
- 22:55order to be able to pull this off and as
- 22:58long as it takes I'm never going to give
- 22:59up. I'm just going to continue doing it
- 23:01until it works. Have that consistency
- 23:03and that mindset of I'm never going to
- 23:05give up until it works. Because it took
- 23:08you 18, 20 years to get to where you are
- 23:11now. Give yourself a year. Give yourself
- 23:13two years. Give yourself 5 years. Who
- 23:15cares? As long as you end up achieving
- 23:18it in the end,
- 23:19>> right?
- 23:19>> Yeah.
- 23:20>> Yeah. Beautiful. So, can you walk me
- 23:22through a real story, no names, where
- 23:26someone had a great or a good idea, a
- 23:30good niche, but still self-sabotaged
- 23:32their school group? Step by step, what
- 23:34happened?
- 23:36>> Yeah. Okay. So, again, no names and this
- 23:39is
- 23:39>> Sorry to put you on the spot there.
- 23:40>> No, that I mean, this is multiple
- 23:43examples. So, what will inevitably
- 23:45happen is we'll we'll get we'll get the
- 23:48school group started. the person will
- 23:49start the school group and that is in
- 23:52and of itself uh a colossal effort like
- 23:55just to get it launched because there's
- 23:56a lot of overthinking involved there and
- 23:58then they'll be secondg guessing
- 24:00straight away. Well, my image, my about
- 24:03page, the name, all the stuff that
- 24:06doesn't matter that we think that we
- 24:08think does matter. And what usually
- 24:11happens and this is multiple multiple
- 24:14times is they'll launch it they'll start
- 24:17they'll start doing the uh outreach
- 24:20right they'll start doing their lead
- 24:21genet effort whether it's within
- 24:22schoolers itself or they're making
- 24:24YouTube videos or whatever it is and
- 24:27they won't see the results quickly
- 24:29enough they won't get enough traffic to
- 24:31the to the to the page they won't they
- 24:32won't get conversions and then instead
- 24:35of correcting that problem they pivot
- 24:39Right? They move to the next thing.
- 24:40Well, that idea was no good. So, I'm
- 24:42going to do this other idea that I had
- 24:45that I had as a backup. And then they do
- 24:48that and then the same thing
- 24:50>> and they find new problems.
- 24:51>> The same thing happens, right? Nobody
- 24:52comes to that page either and they move
- 24:54again.
- 24:54>> Yeah.
- 24:55>> So, that's the story on on on repeat,
- 24:58which is really what we're talking about
- 25:00here. But a lot of the times they don't
- 25:03even get to the point of
- 25:06getting enough traffic to the page where
- 25:09they want to start doing things like,
- 25:10"Well, I've got to I've got to put a
- 25:13VSSL in there or I've got to change my
- 25:15image or I've got to have more stuff
- 25:16inside the classroom." And the question
- 25:18I ask everyone is, "How many visitors
- 25:23saw your about page last week?" And then
- 25:26I So I'll do this on a one-to-one call
- 25:28with them. And when I see them starting
- 25:31to click, I know they don't look and I
- 25:33know they don't know. I'm like, you
- 25:34don't you don't have to tell me. I know
- 25:35it's I know it's a small number. I know
- 25:37you're not paying attention to it. That
- 25:39is the only thing that I care about. It
- 25:42is the first thing that I look at every
- 25:43single day. How many people hit my about
- 25:45page? Because nothing else matters
- 25:47without without knowing that number. And
- 25:49if you don't know that number
- 25:50>> because that's the top of the funnel,
- 25:51right? Like you got to start with the
- 25:53traffic first. If you're not getting any
- 25:55traffic, what's the point in anything
- 25:56else?
- 25:57>> That's right. If you care about your
- 25:59business, you will look at that number
- 26:01every single day.
- 26:02>> Exactly. And and you will if you're not
- 26:06getting visitors to your about page,
- 26:08then why?
- 26:10And then from the why, then you're going
- 26:13to start thinking about, okay, well, let
- 26:15me look at how [laughter] I'm going to
- 26:18start getting more visitors to the about
- 26:20page. And you start looking at different
- 26:22strategies from there, like YouTube. Do
- 26:25I need to do more outreach? Do I need to
- 26:27post more on schoolers community? Do
- 26:29what what do I need to do in order to
- 26:31increase that number? And then you start
- 26:33figuring it out bit by bit. Yeah. And
- 26:35then that's how you figure it out. Like
- 26:38literally just by asking yourself
- 26:39questions and looking at the data. The
- 26:41data will dictate what you need to do.
- 26:43>> Yeah. Nobody wants to look at that
- 26:45number aden because it's very polarizing
- 26:49and very telling. Meaning, okay, I got
- 26:52to do lead genen. They hide behind the
- 26:54other stuff. I'm gonna change my about
- 26:56page. I'm gonna change my images. I'm
- 26:58gonna put stuff in the classroom. Nobody
- 27:00can see me doing that, but they can see
- 27:02me if I'm posting videos or if I'm
- 27:04making content. Everyone's scared to
- 27:06make content because they're they're
- 27:07worried about what everyone thinks,
- 27:09right? Or what's some what people are
- 27:11going to say. So, they hide behind that.
- 27:12That's why they don't check their
- 27:13numbers. They don't want to know.
- 27:14>> And that's the thing. If they don't do
- 27:16the, you know, the the content creation
- 27:19part and all of that, how are they going
- 27:20to drive numbers or people to their
- 27:23their about page? Like people need to be
- 27:25realistic here. Okay, fine. If you can't
- 27:27do content, then do something else. Be
- 27:30more active in in other communities,
- 27:32right? Well, obviously without self
- 27:35self-promotion and stuff like that, but
- 27:36just be helpful. People are going to
- 27:38naturally find find out who you are and
- 27:40click on your profile and check your
- 27:42community and and right and and um visit
- 27:47that that about page and there you go.
- 27:49You got some pe some visitors to to your
- 27:52community this way. Definitely.
- 27:53>> People just need to move. They just need
- 27:55to like start moving,
- 27:57>> working on the right stuff.
- 27:58>> Yeah.
- 27:59>> Yeah.
- 27:59>> Yeah.
- 28:00>> Figuring out what the what the
- 28:01bottleneck is and and tackling it head
- 28:04on, not start when it gets hard, then
- 28:07you start looking at other things that
- 28:09you can do in order to change it up.
- 28:12Well, you're going to face the same
- 28:15problems again and again and again.
- 28:17Unless you tackle it head on. Is your
- 28:19problem traffic? Then tackle it head on.
- 28:22That is your problem. Fix it. It's going
- 28:24to come up wherever you go. However you
- 28:26do things, no matter how many businesses
- 28:29you decide to start, that's going to
- 28:30come up. Only until you decide to tackle
- 28:33it head on. That's when things will
- 28:35start getting best. And you don't have
- 28:37to look at other businesses. There's no
- 28:38need.
- 28:38>> There isn't cuz you're always going to
- 28:40end up in the same spot. People need to
- 28:42know who you are. That's your biggest
- 28:43problem. People don't know who you are.
- 28:44When you and when you get when you get
- 28:46to that point where people know who you
- 28:48are, then you'll have some other
- 28:49problems that you'll have to solve. Then
- 28:52you then you start fixing those problems
- 28:54when they ar arise. Right. That's right.
- 28:57>> Cool. So this is what we what you meant
- 29:00by people um don't fail because uh
- 29:05business is hard. They they just not
- 29:07ready to finish anything dayto-day. So
- 29:10this is what you mean by they don't
- 29:12finish anything, right?
- 29:13>> Yeah. Yeah. They're just not mentally
- 29:15ready and it's no fault of their own.
- 29:17They just haven't spent the time to
- 29:19understand what is required to be a to
- 29:22be a business owner, to be an
- 29:24entrepreneur. And it's way different
- 29:26from having a nine-to-five. You got bad
- 29:29habits in your nineto-ive. And you can't
- 29:31bring that to the business world,
- 29:33otherwise it's going to eat you up and
- 29:35it's going to keep you in your in your
- 29:37nineto-5 for life. So I think there's a
- 29:42lot of value adn in spending some time
- 29:45because people will research stuff
- 29:47literally to the moon. They'll they'll
- 29:48research business ideas.
- 29:51One of the best days of my life was when
- 29:54I discovered that I was the problem,
- 29:56right? All the side hustles, all the
- 29:57failures, all the quitting. It's like I
- 29:59just said to myself, you know what?
- 30:01There's one constant in all of these
- 30:02failed attempts and that's you. So you
- 30:06got to fix that problem. And once I did,
- 30:09it was very freeing, too, because once I
- 30:10admitted and realized that I was the
- 30:12problem, I was like, "Okay, I can fix
- 30:13that. I can't I I I don't I don't have
- 30:15to worry about all these marketers.
- 30:17Like, I can just ignore them and their
- 30:18and their and their and their side
- 30:20hustles. I'm going to work on me." It's
- 30:23really important to spend the time
- 30:25working on yourself
- 30:27before you jump into the business idea.
- 30:30Otherwise, you're just going to stack up
- 30:31another failed attempt.
- 30:33>> And briefly, what was the problem
- 30:35exactly?
- 30:37Why were you why did you feel like you
- 30:39were the problem?
- 30:40>> Because my cycle was exactly the same.
- 30:41And it looked something like this, which
- 30:43was I would be scrolling on the internet
- 30:45looking for the next silver bullet,
- 30:47right? Cuz I wanted out of my life. Like
- 30:49this is this is what most corporate
- 30:50people are are looking at. I'm making X
- 30:53number of dollars. I hate my job. I hate
- 30:55my life. I need to get out of this as
- 30:57fast as possible. So if I'm making
- 30:59$10,000 a month, I need to find the
- 31:00thing that makes me $10,000 a month.
- 31:02That's all they do. they don't look at
- 31:05what that new business could potentially
- 31:08do for them or hurt them. You could end
- 31:11up creating a situation that's worse
- 31:12than your job, right? So, I used to do
- 31:16that. Okay, I'm making this. I need to
- 31:18get out. I need to do that. I need to
- 31:19make this to get out. So, I would look
- 31:21for that and if it didn't happen fast
- 31:22enough, I would just keep keep repeating
- 31:24it. So, that's where the 26 and 14 years
- 31:26came from. And I that's when I just said
- 31:29to myself, okay, number one, I can't do
- 31:31that anymore. That doesn't work. So I
- 31:33have to pick one thing and that's what I
- 31:35did. I also did it all by myself. So I
- 31:38hired a coach. I joined a mastermind
- 31:40group. I got around people that also
- 31:43wanted to do it and learn from people
- 31:46who knew what they were doing. And I
- 31:49stripped away all the excuses and I just
- 31:51said, I'm doing this one thing and one
- 31:53thing only and I'm going I've been a
- 31:55sales guy my entire life. So I know that
- 31:57reps work. That's where the reps come
- 31:59in. And the reason I won is because I
- 32:03did everything they told me to do. And I
- 32:05didn't do like seven out of 10. I did
- 32:07all 10. And I just kept doing them and
- 32:09kept doing them until it worked. And
- 32:11that's why it worked.
- 32:12>> Amazing. So I'm glad you mentioned reps
- 32:15because that's that's very very
- 32:16important.
- 32:17>> If someone launches a school community
- 32:20tomorrow in the first 90 days, what are
- 32:23the only reps you want them focusing on?
- 32:27>> Oh my goodness. this I mean this is
- 32:29everyone thinks that this needs to be
- 32:31hard okay they're they're going to over
- 32:33complicate it like this can't possibly
- 32:35be that easy so for a school community
- 32:38for the first 90 days when you launch it
- 32:41so I would I would advise my members
- 32:43that's like you need a hero image on
- 32:45your about page
- 32:48text on your about page talking about
- 32:50what the group's about especially if
- 32:51it's started from scratch and you've
- 32:52never done this before and then for the
- 32:55next 90 days you need to be relentless
- 32:57bliss with your lead generation. If you
- 33:00only have two hours per day, that's all
- 33:03you're doing. You're not making courses.
- 33:04You're not, you know, trying to make
- 33:07digital products. You're not trying to
- 33:08land clients. You are getting people to
- 33:11that about page and converting. My
- 33:14philosophy is build the audience, find
- 33:16out what they want, make it for them,
- 33:17charge them money for it. Every time
- 33:19that I do that, I make money. Not some
- 33:20of the time, every single time. People
- 33:22do it backwards. They try to make they
- 33:24make something and then they try to
- 33:26bring people in and buy it and then
- 33:28they're surprised when nobody buys it
- 33:29because nobody asked for it. Nobody
- 33:31asked for the thing you made. So when
- 33:33you bring the group together and you
- 33:35talk to them like I do onetoone calls
- 33:37with all my members which is so valuable
- 33:40because I this is how I know what their
- 33:42problems are because they tell me
- 33:44everyone says the same thing. I have too
- 33:45many ideas. Well I make I make content
- 33:48on that. So, for the 90 days to answer
- 33:50your question, I am totally laser dialed
- 33:52in on traffic and I would pick one
- 33:55source. If you're not a if you're not
- 33:58big on social media and you're nervous,
- 34:01I would pick one traffic source. I built
- 34:03my entire coaching business on Tik Tok.
- 34:05That was all I that's all I did. And I
- 34:07made videos and I went live for 30 days
- 34:09straight for a one hour every single
- 34:11time. And I landed my first client, my
- 34:13first onetoone coaching client from a
- 34:14Tik Tok live. And then I graduated to
- 34:17the other platforms, but I just focused
- 34:21on getting those reps in. And this was
- 34:24before school. And I just did a bunch of
- 34:26calls with people. That was my lead
- 34:27back. I'll do a 30-minute call with you
- 34:29for free. And that built my entire
- 34:31business. And I didn't do anything else
- 34:33because there was nothing else to do.
- 34:35>> Amazing. And what's really important is
- 34:39you don't have to figure it out all as
- 34:41they say like in the beginning. You you
- 34:43will not know everything in the
- 34:45beginning. just the doing and the
- 34:48figuring out the figuring out part is
- 34:50going to come. It's it's a it's a
- 34:52byproduct of the doing, right?
- 34:54[laughter] Like you will start doing and
- 34:56then you will figure it out as you go
- 34:58along because then you'll be like, "Oh,
- 34:59this works. Oh, great. Let me double
- 35:01down on it. This doesn't work, so I'm
- 35:03going to remove it." You'll only know
- 35:05when you start doing when you start
- 35:07putting in the reps, right? I'm glad you
- 35:09mentioned traffic because a lot of
- 35:10people are really scared of traffic.
- 35:13That's why they start doing all the all
- 35:15the other bits, right? When traffic
- 35:17really is one of the most important
- 35:18things. Now, if people are scared of
- 35:22going on social media in order to
- 35:24acquire traffic, what can they do? Let's
- 35:26talk to the people that are really,
- 35:28really, really, really scared of the
- 35:30idea of showing their face and showing
- 35:33their vulnerabilities to other people,
- 35:36afraid of them judging them, blah blah
- 35:37blah, because this is a big fear. What
- 35:40can they do? I I've had a lot of com
- 35:42this is a great question and I'm
- 35:44definitely going to answer answer it
- 35:46with because this is a real feel for a
- 35:47lot of people and I've I do a lot of
- 35:49onetoone calls and this comes up a lot
- 35:52and I don't want to make videos. I don't
- 35:54want them to show my face. I don't want
- 35:55to get found out and I say
- 35:56congratulations. You're just like
- 35:58everybody else. I've yet to meet the
- 36:00person that gets on a call and says,
- 36:01"You know what, Brian? I'm dying to make
- 36:02YouTube videos because I love the sound
- 36:04of my voice and my background is awesome
- 36:06and I just can't wait to do Like nobody
- 36:08wants to make YouTube videos in the
- 36:10beginning. They're all afraid. And I
- 36:12always joke that nobody ever died making
- 36:14a YouTube video. It's okay over here.
- 36:16It's not that bad. So how I position
- 36:19this is, do you prefer to write or you
- 36:21prefer to talk? And I just break it
- 36:23down. I say, well, I I prefer to write.
- 36:24Okay. Well, the YouTube is out for now.
- 36:28So find the platforms where you can
- 36:30write. You can go to schoolers. You can
- 36:32go to threads, right? You can go to
- 36:33LinkedIn. You can go you can you can
- 36:35write. There are Instagram accounts
- 36:37where they only write.
- 36:40You don't need to do videos on
- 36:42Instagram. So decide whether you want to
- 36:45write or you want to speak.
- 36:48Which do you prefer? If you want to
- 36:49speak, go to YouTube. To me, there's no
- 36:52better traffic source for school than
- 36:54YouTube. Like it beats everything else
- 36:56by a mile that I've done. But your
- 36:58audience is everywhere. People make the
- 36:59mistake of thinking that I have to be on
- 37:02all the platforms because I my audience
- 37:04is here. It's like no. How many social
- 37:06media accounts do you have? Most people
- 37:08have like three, four or five, not one.
- 37:11So there is no best the the best one is
- 37:14the one that you stick with. What is the
- 37:17easiest thing for you to execute on? So
- 37:20I tell my members who are afraid of
- 37:23making videos, I'm like just go on
- 37:25schoolers and make 50 comments a day for
- 37:28120 days straight and watch what
- 37:30happens.
- 37:31>> Watch what happens. Yep.
- 37:32>> Yep.
- 37:33>> Absolutely. it it works and other
- 37:35communities in in your niche as well. Go
- 37:38in, be valuable,
- 37:41give insights, answer comments, answer
- 37:44posts like post comments and people
- 37:46will,
- 37:48>> you know, eventually find you and they
- 37:50will click on your profile and they will
- 37:52they will check out your communities and
- 37:54they'll decide to to join your community
- 37:56if everything looks good, right? But
- 37:58like the traffic is not that hard.
- 37:59People just over complicate it, man.
- 38:01They're just too scared to move and do
- 38:04something
- 38:05>> when in fact it's just think about it
- 38:07like you said perfectly.
- 38:09>> Do you like to talk? Do you like to
- 38:10write? If you like to talk, do videos.
- 38:12If you like to write, then write, right?
- 38:15>> But you have to do something. Traffic,
- 38:17trust me, will never come on its own. It
- 38:20will never come on its own. You have to
- 38:22do something in order to attract that
- 38:24traffic. What are you doing? That's the
- 38:26question.
- 38:26>> That's right. Unless you got a big old
- 38:28ad budget and you can just, you know,
- 38:29run Facebook ads to your school group,
- 38:31but even then
- 38:32>> that's another strategy.
- 38:34>> Yeah, you still gota you still have to
- 38:36create content. You like you you got to
- 38:39make the ads and if you've never done
- 38:41content before, your ads are probably
- 38:43not going to be that good.
- 38:45>> Yeah. One thing I see a lot of people um
- 38:48do, and it's a big big big mistake, um
- 38:51and I'm interested to find out what your
- 38:53perspective on this. A lot of people um
- 38:56watching this uh have multiple ideas,
- 39:00halfbuilts communities and crucially
- 39:03they are constantly comparing themselves
- 39:06to school games winners. How do you
- 39:09coach someone
- 39:11uh like that to pick one lane and stop
- 39:14poisoning themselves with comparison
- 39:16because comparison is big big big big
- 39:19issue for most people.
- 39:20>> Oh, it's brutal. I I'm so glad you
- 39:22brought that up. It drives me crazy.
- 39:23Number one, but I also get it like
- 39:25people people look at where you are now,
- 39:28but like for example, let's use Evelyn
- 39:30as example because she was just on the
- 39:32show. Like Evelyn is Evelyn, okay? She's
- 39:34won the school games. Everybody knows
- 39:36who she is. She's she's killing it with
- 39:38the ads, but no one gives her any credit
- 39:41for all she had to do to get there. Like
- 39:44that's the thing that I love is she's
- 39:46been doing this for so long and she
- 39:48continues to show up. And I just want
- 39:50you for before I answer your question, I
- 39:52just want you for everyone who's
- 39:54comparing themselves to the school game
- 39:55winners or this person or that person.
- 39:58Do you want their life?
- 40:02Answer that question. And if you don't,
- 40:05then you should stop looking at them
- 40:08because number one, it's not fair to you
- 40:10and it's not fair to Evelyn, Brian,
- 40:14Adnan, or Hermosi or anyone. Like don't
- 40:17put that on them, right? They don't they
- 40:21don't need that. The comparison trap is
- 40:24just as bad as the distractions and the
- 40:26overthinking. Like it's never helped
- 40:28you. It's not your friend. It's a bad
- 40:29relationship. You got to break up with
- 40:31it. But the first part of your question
- 40:35where I I can't remember what what you
- 40:37said cuz I went on a tangent there. What
- 40:39was the
- 40:39>> So, how do you coach someone like that?
- 40:42Got it. For the
- 40:43>> um to stop pick u to stop picking too
- 40:47many options and comparing themselves
- 40:49and uh how do you coach them to pick one
- 40:51lane and stop poisoning themselves with
- 40:53comparison?
- 40:53>> Got it. Too many ideas. Okay. Made a
- 40:56video on this and I actually do this
- 40:57live on onetoone calls with my members.
- 40:59So no most members will come to me with
- 41:01like two or three different ideas. I've
- 41:02got these three two or three different
- 41:04ideas and they'll talk to me about the
- 41:06ideas and this one and they're usually
- 41:08all different. And I say to them, "Okay,
- 41:11you've got these three ideas.
- 41:14I want you to pretend for one second
- 41:16that all three of them get you the same
- 41:20exact result that you want in the same
- 41:23amount of time with the same amount of
- 41:25effort from you. So they are the $10,000
- 41:29per month in 90 days working two hours
- 41:31per day. They're all created equal.
- 41:35Which one do you pick?" Most people know
- 41:38right on the spot. Some have to think
- 41:40about it. And I've had gentle I've had
- 41:43someone that's done that right on it and
- 41:45he launched his school group like the
- 41:46next day. He's like, I want to go with
- 41:47this one because and this goes back to
- 41:51something that Hormosio also says as
- 41:53well, which is it's not the business,
- 41:57it's your commitment to the business. So
- 41:59they can all they all work, but they
- 42:01can't all work at the same time. So that
- 42:03seems to help a lot of people. And then
- 42:06on the comparison piece,
- 42:08I I I've been thinking about this a lot
- 42:11and I want to create a visual like
- 42:12looking sideways like looking left and
- 42:14right is really really dangerous. So I
- 42:17live in Chicago and I'm about an hour
- 42:19from downtown from the city. I know
- 42:22where it is and I know how to get there,
- 42:25right? So this analogy will hopefully
- 42:28land and make sense. I got to drive in
- 42:30my car and it's about 40 miles to get
- 42:33there and I can't see Chicago when I'm
- 42:36driving in the car, right? And I got to
- 42:39be careful not to look left and not to
- 42:41look right or look behind me in the rear
- 42:44rearview mirror because I'm going to
- 42:46crash. I can't see 40 miles ahead of me.
- 42:49I can't see that far. I can see about
- 42:52400 ft in front of me. That's it. And
- 42:55that's how business needs to be. You
- 42:57need to quit looking all over the place
- 42:59and just focus on what you need to do.
- 43:02Get traffic to your about page. Do my
- 43:04lead genen. Make my 50 post in
- 43:06schoolers. Make my YouTube video. Do my
- 43:10Instagram post. People are trying to
- 43:13build their retirement business
- 43:16in their first business. They're trying
- 43:18to see all 50 steps 45 miles down the
- 43:20road. You can't do it. It's not It's
- 43:22going to look different. I don't know
- 43:24that there might be a crash up ahead on
- 43:26the highway or that there might be
- 43:27traffic, right? Or that maybe it starts
- 43:30snowing. I don't know. I can't see all
- 43:31that. But we we we all have to we all
- 43:34have to see all of it before we even get
- 43:36to step one, which is to get in the darn
- 43:38car. Get in the darn car and start
- 43:39driving.
- 43:40>> Yeah. And what people fail to realize is
- 43:43that people like Alex Hosia, for
- 43:45example, Yeah. he made $106 million in
- 43:49three days in one weekend, right? But
- 43:52people look at it, oh he did it in 3
- 43:54days. No. Dum dum. He did it in 10
- 43:57years. Okay. He when he started, he
- 44:01started a very long time ago and he hit
- 44:04roadblocks. He had issues. He nearly
- 44:07went bankrupt. He so many things that he
- 44:10faced, all the struggles, all the hard
- 44:13work that he had to put to to put to put
- 44:15in, all the effort, all the trials, all
- 44:18the tribulations, all the problems, you
- 44:20know, he his partner uh betrayed him,
- 44:22all so all the different things that he
- 44:24had to go through in order to get here.
- 44:27And you want to have a straight path.
- 44:29You want to basically, as you said, you
- 44:31know, driving from where you are to
- 44:33Chicago, right? You want to get on a
- 44:36helicopter and take off and then and
- 44:40then land in your destination without,
- 44:44you know, the car crashes, without
- 44:46things going wrong. It's never going to
- 44:49happen, right? He didn't do it like
- 44:51that. He had to go through the traffic.
- 44:54He didn't know which way was the
- 44:56fastest, which way is going to get him
- 44:58there. He didn't have a sat nav
- 45:00satellite navigation, right? He had to
- 45:03figure it out and navigate. Nobody had a
- 45:06direct path to get from here to here.
- 45:09They just had to figure it out in their
- 45:11own way. So what the these people have
- 45:13to do is they you guys have to navigate
- 45:17and figure out which way is going to
- 45:18take you to where you want to be. You
- 45:20will never ever ever have a straight
- 45:22path. It's never going to happen. So
- 45:24quit thinking that.
- 45:25>> Yeah. And and they know that too. They
- 45:27just can't help themselves
- 45:28unfortunately. So that's where the the
- 45:30constant work with, you know, this
- 45:33mindset stuff and you being the one
- 45:35blocking you, like what stops us is us.
- 45:38That just never ends, right? It never
- 45:40ends.
- 45:41>> Yeah. And it's really interesting
- 45:43because like what the hell makes people
- 45:45think that only when it comes to working
- 45:49on the internet, that's when it's
- 45:52possible. But in real life, if you
- 45:55really step back, in real life, nothing
- 45:57is like this. If you want to get a
- 46:00degree, you need to study 12, 13 years.
- 46:04If you want to get a master's degree,
- 46:06you need to study two years. You may
- 46:08pass, you may fail, you may need to
- 46:10redo, you know, some modules and maybe
- 46:13you'll achieve it in in three years or
- 46:15four years. If you want to get a PhD in
- 46:19a certain topic, you need, I don't know,
- 46:21three years, four years, right? It needs
- 46:24time and you may pass, you may not pass.
- 46:27Why do you think that only in business
- 46:31or in working online can you achieve it
- 46:35in a very short period of time? Where
- 46:37does that come from?
- 46:38>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's really, really
- 46:40good marketing,
- 46:42>> right?
- 46:42>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:43>> Really, really good marketing.
- 46:44>> Really, really good.
- 46:45>> People just need to be realistic here.
- 46:48You need to be realistic. To get a job,
- 46:50you need to do this, this, this, and
- 46:52this. To get a promotion, you need to be
- 46:55in the job for a certain amount of time
- 46:56and to actually be good at it so that
- 46:59your superiors think, "Oh, do you know
- 47:01what? This person deserves a promotion.
- 47:03This is why. This is why. This is why."
- 47:05Then they give you the promotion. So why
- 47:08is it with working online? Do you see it
- 47:11different? It's no different. It's the
- 47:13same thing. It's just it's not in the
- 47:16physical world. It's in the online
- 47:18world.
- 47:18>> Different environment. Same thing,
- 47:20different environment. Yeah. and and you
- 47:22got to and people get weirded out by
- 47:24that for some reason. Well, the online
- 47:26world's different from the real world.
- 47:27It's like it's the same thing. People
- 47:28are just, you know, hiding behind their
- 47:30keyboard. That that's all it is. They're
- 47:31not they're they're not saying it to
- 47:32your face. They're typing it. So, it's
- 47:35it's it's strange, but I also get and I
- 47:38understand that it's a real thing. And
- 47:41one of the things that I've learned as
- 47:42I've gotten older, Adnan, is
- 47:45people are humans are going to human.
- 47:47Like the they could listen to this show
- 47:4950 times in a row and they're still
- 47:51going to do their thing. So I'm really
- 47:55working hard on not trying to shove
- 47:58everybody into a box that they don't
- 48:00want to go into,
- 48:04which is super challenging. But I think
- 48:06everyone just needs to find their own
- 48:08way and understand that this isn't
- 48:12really that that big of a deal. It's not
- 48:14that serious. You're making it way more.
- 48:17Again, I go back to the guarantees. You
- 48:20will want to quit multiple times. And
- 48:21this is not as hard as you think it is.
- 48:23Like if you and I talked about what we
- 48:25do on a daily basis, it's pretty boring.
- 48:27My day, I relive the same day over and
- 48:29over again. I there isn't anything
- 48:31overly difficult about what I do. It's
- 48:34when it doesn't go my way or if there's
- 48:36a problem that I have to solve that I
- 48:38can't rely on a boss for, right? That's
- 48:41where it gets a little bit more
- 48:42challenging. But I do the same thing all
- 48:45the time, just like you do in your in
- 48:47your job. Actually, I did harder stuff
- 48:49in my job than I do in my business right
- 48:51now.
- 48:51>> And you know, the difference that I see
- 48:54uh well, it's it's kind of realistic,
- 48:57isn't it? It's a lot of people a lot of
- 48:59people what they do is they just get by.
- 49:02they just get by in their job. You
- 49:04cannot just get by when it's when you're
- 49:06working for you trying to build a
- 49:08business. You cannot clockwatch. You
- 49:10cannot just go in and do what the boss
- 49:14asks you to do. Punch, you know, a few
- 49:16numbers here and there. Punch a few
- 49:18words here and there, whatever. Don't
- 49:20have to use your brain. Don't have to
- 49:22really think and and and be analytical
- 49:25and provide real value. You just exist
- 49:28and you just do what you're asked to do.
- 49:30You cannot build a business like that.
- 49:32>> No, those are the bad habits that I was
- 49:35referring to that you can't bring into
- 49:36the business.
- 49:37>> They need to get out of in order to
- 49:39build a real business. That's when they
- 49:41need to have a mindset shift. Hey, look,
- 49:44I'm working for me right now. I need to
- 49:46give me the best of me in order to get
- 49:49to where I want to get to. You cannot
- 49:52just think, I'm just going to go into
- 49:54this job and do whatever and then leave
- 49:57because I'm guaranteed a salary at the
- 49:59end of the day.
- 50:00Dude, if you really want to work in, you
- 50:03know, online or doing your your thing,
- 50:05your business, you cannot just give
- 50:08whatever, you need to give real value in
- 50:11order to to to receive things. That's
- 50:14how it works. It
- 50:15>> it is how it works. And I think a lot of
- 50:16people might be afraid of that. I get
- 50:17why people say in their jobs, I really
- 50:19do. One of the one of the things that I
- 50:22that I ask people all the time and I and
- 50:24I and I give them permission to be okay
- 50:26with this and I and I just say
- 50:29you either want it or you don't. Like
- 50:31you know that this is going to be hard
- 50:33and if you don't want it that's okay.
- 50:36Just learn to accept your life and and
- 50:39and and be happy with it and don't beat
- 50:42yourself up for not going after it.
- 50:45There there's nothing wrong with you if
- 50:46you choose not to start a business. But
- 50:49if you do choose to start it, then this
- 50:52is what's required and it's not going to
- 50:54be easy and it's going to take a lot of
- 50:58effort and work and time, a long period
- 51:01of time. And it's like people if they
- 51:04would just go a little bit longer like
- 51:07one I said I I always like to say, you
- 51:09know, because when I I used to do phone
- 51:11calls for my sales job, be like one more
- 51:13call, like one more call, one more
- 51:15question. And that can be the difference
- 51:17between you making it and not making it.
- 51:19>> Yeah. There's always going to be a yes.
- 51:22You just got to go after it. And you
- 51:25know, people
- 51:27I mean, like you said, it's not it's not
- 51:30that they have to do it. It's not that
- 51:32everybody needs to be an entrepreneur.
- 51:34It's that's not how the world works,
- 51:37right? You still need teachers, doctors,
- 51:40all of that. Not everybody wants to be
- 51:42an entrepreneur. But if you really want
- 51:45to do something different, something for
- 51:48yourself, maybe you you don't want to be
- 51:50limited by, you know, the the time that
- 51:54you have to work or by that commute or
- 51:56by the money that you're getting by that
- 51:58ceiling. If you don't want to have a
- 52:00ceiling,
- 52:01then you need to figure out how you can
- 52:05accept the new reality of doing it
- 52:07because you really want to win, right?
- 52:10You need to be able to do it because you
- 52:13really want to win. And to really win,
- 52:16you need to do certain things that not
- 52:18everybody is able to do, not just get
- 52:21by. That's never going to work. And if
- 52:23you decide that it's too hard and you
- 52:27love the comfort of your job, then as
- 52:30you said, be okay with it and carry on.
- 52:34But don't complain
- 52:34>> or try try not to try not to complain.
- 52:37[laughter]
- 52:38>> Yeah. I mean, you can't have it both
- 52:40ways. A lot of people want to have their
- 52:42cake and eat it. It's just not possible,
- 52:45unfortunately. If you want to have your
- 52:47cake and eat it, it's never going to
- 52:49happen. Yeah. Cool. So, can you give us
- 52:52a quick tour of your school world? I
- 52:55want to, you know, I want to figure out
- 52:57what you do, Brian. And for people that
- 53:00are watching as well and listening, what
- 53:03communities do you run? which ones are
- 53:05free and um versus paid and who they are
- 53:09for and then share two or three boring
- 53:12things you've done consistently to
- 53:15actually drive growth.
- 53:16>> Yeah, boring things.
- 53:18>> A lot of the things that drive growth
- 53:20are so boring and mundane that not many
- 53:22people want to do them.
- 53:24>> So, still
- 53:24>> I'd be interested to find out.
- 53:26>> Yeah, I had a well, you heard me talk
- 53:28about I was I got my first uh onetoone
- 53:30coaching client. So, I started as a
- 53:32coach when I left the real estate
- 53:34business. I I won't go into that. I
- 53:36won't go into that detail, but I'm
- 53:37coaching a few people and onetoone. And
- 53:40two of them said to me, "Hey, Brian, I
- 53:43really like these onetoone calls, but
- 53:45I'd like to be around other people who
- 53:47are going through the same thing I'm
- 53:49going through. I like to know that I'm
- 53:50not the only one here." And I'm like,
- 53:52"Duh, mastermind. That's exactly where
- 53:54the world I came from." So, I launched
- 53:56my mastermind group like two days later.
- 53:58I was on another platform, Mighty
- 54:00Networks, and I started getting people
- 54:03in that group and building it. That was
- 54:05my first real community, and it was just
- 54:07a place for my oneto ones to go. And
- 54:09then I see Hermos. I started following
- 54:11Hermosi and he's talking about school
- 54:13and how he's an investor. And I'm like,
- 54:14I believe I I trust this guy. He's like
- 54:17the only influence I I follow. The only
- 54:19one. I've eliminated everybody else. And
- 54:22I came over to school. I brought my
- 54:23mastermind over to to school and it
- 54:27worked out really well. And then I
- 54:29realized that the people who were
- 54:32starting businesses or wanting to start
- 54:34a businesses had all these roadblocks,
- 54:36these these mental roadblocks. And I
- 54:39remembered, okay, this is the
- 54:40transformation that Bryant went through.
- 54:42I I I basically fixed my mindset or I
- 54:45improved it. It's never fixed. You
- 54:47improve it. So I started mindset school
- 54:50which would be the prerequisite to
- 54:53joining my mastermind. Like before you
- 54:55start a business you need to fix this
- 54:57otherwise you are going to keep spinning
- 54:59your wheels forever. And mindset's a
- 55:01tough thing to sell but it worked and I
- 55:04validated the business. Um I was
- 55:07actually watching the episode with
- 55:08Evelyn and I did the same thing. Like
- 55:10Ilisted it, I ran ads. Like I validated
- 55:12the offer. I had I used my email list.
- 55:14People said yes. Like 20 people said
- 55:16yes. I launched the thing to an empty
- 55:18room and that I built from zero to 200.
- 55:22It's up to about 280 paid members now. I
- 55:24did that in about nine months time and
- 55:26it looks different now. It's evolved
- 55:28from mindset to now I help you build a
- 55:30school community because
- 55:33the $9 hobby plan came out and all of my
- 55:35people were wrapped up in their heads
- 55:37about funnels and all this stuff and I
- 55:39said, "This is the thing you got to do
- 55:41right here. This is so easy. You can
- 55:43launch a school community. I could get
- 55:44off this call and launch the school
- 55:46community in one hour right now. I I
- 55:48don't expect them to do it. So that was
- 55:51where the middle group was born, mindset
- 55:53school. And then I have a CRM. I use a I
- 55:57use a funnel outside of here and I
- 56:00funnel people into my groups. But I
- 56:02didn't have a free community and I see
- 56:04the value in a free community. So I
- 56:06launched the free community to replace
- 56:08my lead magnet, which is I don't even
- 56:10know what business to start. I don't
- 56:11even know which one to pick. That's what
- 56:13I help people with and that's the free
- 56:15community. So, those are the three
- 56:16groups and it's kind of a progression.
- 56:18It's the same thing. It's the same
- 56:19offer. It's really just like where are
- 56:22you at and how much access do you want
- 56:25to Brian? I hope I clear I hope I
- 56:28explain that well and then I'll answer
- 56:29your boring things question.
- 56:30>> No, that's that's that's pretty good.
- 56:32So, I've got an idea about your, you
- 56:34know, your free and how you take them to
- 56:37pay, then why you switched from your uh
- 56:41other lead magnet into a free community,
- 56:43but what are the three boring things
- 56:45you've done consistently to actually
- 56:47drive growth?
- 56:48>> Yeah.
- 56:48>> I want the boring, most mundane things
- 56:50that
- 56:51>> I don't know, you probably enjoy or not
- 56:53enjoy doing, but I imagine most people
- 56:55would wouldn't want to do, but those are
- 56:57the things that actually drive growth.
- 56:59>> Yeah. the needle movers, which is
- 57:00something that I've been I got these uh
- 57:02notepads from my old nineto-five job
- 57:05actually, these grid pads. I've been
- 57:06doing this since 2019. I write them down
- 57:09every single day. I write down my
- 57:10long-term goals and then right next to
- 57:12it, I write down the three things that
- 57:14are going to get me closer to those
- 57:16long-term goals. And the three things
- 57:18that are very repetitive is always lead
- 57:21genen. Like top of the list is lead
- 57:22genen. So, um I I write my emails,
- 57:26right? I write I write weekly emails to
- 57:28my list, so I got to get that done. I
- 57:31make YouTube videos, so I got to script
- 57:33that stuff.
- 57:33>> Hold on, hold on. So lead. So So emails,
- 57:36do you enjoy writing emails?
- 57:38>> I actually do. I'm a talker. So if you
- 57:40ask me the question, are you a writer?
- 57:42Are you a talker? Then I say talker, but
- 57:46I actually really enjoy writing. And I'm
- 57:48really enjoying writing my schoolers
- 57:50posts, especially now they're getting
- 57:52more traction. So, I spend a lot of time
- 57:54making my schoolers posts because I know
- 57:57what it can do. I know what they can do
- 57:59for visibility, right, and opportunity.
- 58:02But I do enjoy writing. I really do. I'm
- 58:04just better at it's just easier for me
- 58:06to talk.
- 58:07>> Cool. But do you do you think that other
- 58:09people enjoy writing emails?
- 58:12>> I don't because I think it's too easy to
- 58:14use AI.
- 58:16Yeah. Yeah. Where which is I've been
- 58:18really using now look everybody uses AI.
- 58:21Like I use it more for brain dumps, but
- 58:23I've been really practicing writing my
- 58:25headlines. Like I'll I'll have three or
- 58:28four headlines for titles and then I'll
- 58:30just change the headlines. And I'm
- 58:31getting a lot of feedback on that's a
- 58:33really good hook. That's a really good
- 58:34headline. I'm like, "Yeah, I wrote that
- 58:36one." Not AI. So if people don't enjoy
- 58:39writing, they don't enjoy talking, let's
- 58:42just stay with the example of email,
- 58:45how do they need to convince themselves
- 58:47to just do it? [laughter]
- 58:51Yeah, if
- 58:52>> because it's what they need in order to
- 58:54get visibility and reach.
- 58:56>> Totally. And
- 58:56>> to drive people to their to their
- 58:58school.
- 58:58>> And building an email list is like one
- 59:00of the most high value things that you
- 59:02can do. If you if you are starting
- 59:04anything with content outside of school,
- 59:08you need to have a way to get people's
- 59:09email addresses, whether it's a free
- 59:11school community or some type of a lead
- 59:13magnet. And then you can you can email
- 59:15the list. Like if you have a free school
- 59:17community of a thousand people and you
- 59:18got all their emails, you can email them
- 59:20and you should email them. So get on a
- 59:23cadence. Number one, like you can do
- 59:26daily or you can do Monday, Wednesday,
- 59:28and Friday. Like I do Monday, Wednesday,
- 59:29and Friday. Monday 8:30, Wednesday 8:30,
- 59:32Friday at 5:00 p.m. So you show up at
- 59:34the same exact time every single week.
- 59:36So they're like they're expecting you.
- 59:39And you don't have to pitch every time.
- 59:41You just have to be there. One of the
- 59:44things that I hear a lot, add-on, is
- 59:45like, "Brian, you're everywhere."
- 59:48All right. You got to be visible to
- 59:50people and show up because the moment
- 59:53that they're looking for the solution,
- 59:55if you're not there, they're going to
- 59:56find it from somebody else. So, you got
- 59:59to be in their inbox, right? You got to
- 1:00:00be you got to be there reminding them.
- 1:00:03One of the things that I strip away from
- 1:00:04people that are afraid of sales because
- 1:00:07a lot most people are afraid of selling.
- 1:00:08I don't want to ask for money. I don't
- 1:00:10want to sound salesy. All this stuff is
- 1:00:11they say, "We're not in the sales
- 1:00:12business. is we're the reminding
- 1:00:13business. And that's what emails do. It
- 1:00:16reminds people that you exist, that your
- 1:00:18school community exists, and you don't
- 1:00:20have to be blatant about it. Like, hey,
- 1:00:21go join my group. It's like, hey, tell a
- 1:00:23story. Like the question you asked me,
- 1:00:26tell a story about how somebody messed
- 1:00:28up their school community. That's an
- 1:00:29email.
- 1:00:30>> Exactly.
- 1:00:30>> Yeah. So, that's what I do with my
- 1:00:32>> And um what's what's the second one? Cuz
- 1:00:35I interrupted you there just to dig
- 1:00:37deeper a little bit.
- 1:00:38>> Sure. Sure.
- 1:00:39>> Um what's the second boring thing?
- 1:00:41>> Yeah. The that you see people not doing
- 1:00:44and that you you do and that should
- 1:00:46people should do it in order to drive
- 1:00:48growth.
- 1:00:49>> As a school community owner, you have to
- 1:00:51be a present owner. Like there's no
- 1:00:52getting around that. And this is a huge
- 1:00:55mistake that I see other founders make
- 1:00:58and I hear a lot is I don't join the
- 1:01:01group because I check the owner's
- 1:01:03profile and they're not present. Like
- 1:01:04they don't have the green bars. Like if
- 1:01:05you don't think people are looking at
- 1:01:06your profile, like they're looking,
- 1:01:08trust me. So, make sure that that's
- 1:01:11clean and up to-date. So, I make sure
- 1:01:13that I spend a significant amount of
- 1:01:15time in my community answering
- 1:01:17questions, commenting, making sure I
- 1:01:19post in there. I have a I have a big
- 1:01:21membership. I have to be active in
- 1:01:23there. And if I'm not, then they're
- 1:01:26going to leave.
- 1:01:28Period. So, that's something that's
- 1:01:31boring, but it's also it also can be
- 1:01:33exciting as well, but it be it becomes
- 1:01:35mundane and repetitive because it's
- 1:01:36like, okay, I'm going all the way down
- 1:01:38the notifications list and I'm just
- 1:01:40answering everybody and making sure that
- 1:01:42I'm I'm participating in my own group as
- 1:01:45well, not just posting all the time.
- 1:01:47>> But I think if you enjoy it, you don't
- 1:01:50really see it as work. You just you're
- 1:01:52just there to hang out and you're doing
- 1:01:54your thing and you're get you're showing
- 1:01:56up without you needing you have to show
- 1:01:59up. I think the more you enjoy doing it,
- 1:02:01the more it doesn't feel like work.
- 1:02:03>> Yeah, I agreed. I don't I don't feel
- 1:02:05like this is work at all or something
- 1:02:08that I have to do.
- 1:02:09>> A wise man once said, "If you enjoy what
- 1:02:12you do, you never have to work a day in
- 1:02:13your life."
- 1:02:14>> That's right. That's right.
- 1:02:15>> As the old saying goes. [laughter]
- 1:02:17>> Um and what about the third boring
- 1:02:20thing?
- 1:02:20>> Yeah. I don't know if it's boring, but
- 1:02:22it's something that is required is
- 1:02:25making my making my YouTube videos. I
- 1:02:26mean, I spend a lot of time making my
- 1:02:29YouTube videos, scripting them out. I
- 1:02:32don't I'm I'm more of a riffer. I don't
- 1:02:34really I I script the hook and I grab
- 1:02:37the title, but I normally just make my
- 1:02:39videos and I just might do them multiple
- 1:02:42times, but I spend a lot of time
- 1:02:44planning them out and collecting data.
- 1:02:46Like my ideas come from my audience,
- 1:02:48right? whether whether it's in the
- 1:02:50comments or whether you know I'm on
- 1:02:52calls and people are talking about, hey,
- 1:02:53I've got too many business ideas. I'm
- 1:02:55like, that's a YouTube video right
- 1:02:56there.
- 1:02:56>> Yeah, that's a really important one. I
- 1:02:58mean, if you're a content creator, the
- 1:03:00first thing you need to look at every
- 1:03:02single week is what content am I going
- 1:03:05to create, right? And ideally, people
- 1:03:08should really have it
- 1:03:10um you know like uh scheduled or already
- 1:03:14organized for the next week, two weeks,
- 1:03:163 weeks, four weeks. I know some people
- 1:03:18that schedule their calendar for like
- 1:03:20the next 2 3 months. They know exactly
- 1:03:22what they're going to do. I don't do
- 1:03:24that myself. I'll be honest with you,
- 1:03:26but it's very important to know what
- 1:03:29tasks you're going to do for the next
- 1:03:31upcoming weeks or so. This way, it keeps
- 1:03:33you disciplined and grounded and and
- 1:03:36knowing that it's got to be done. Like
- 1:03:38if it's got to be done, then it's got to
- 1:03:39be done when the time um comes. Um,
- 1:03:44and one thing I see is school makes it
- 1:03:48easy to just binge content. What have
- 1:03:50you found that actually gets members to
- 1:03:54take action? Any rituals, things like
- 1:03:58challenges or accountability setups that
- 1:04:02work usually really, really well.
- 1:04:04>> Yeah. So, this is the second time I've
- 1:04:07done this and I'm excited about it. I
- 1:04:10run [snorts] what's I run a I run a
- 1:04:11contest inside of my group every every
- 1:04:13month and I came up with this idea for
- 1:04:18the flame contest and I do it a little
- 1:04:22bit different than other people do but
- 1:04:24one of the requirements is you have to
- 1:04:27get your flame and you have to have your
- 1:04:29flame by the end of the month to win the
- 1:04:31prize. And I think of an when I first
- 1:04:35did this back in October, I thought of
- 1:04:36the most outrageous prize that I could
- 1:04:38give away. And I was like, what's the
- 1:04:40prize? And it was working with me one to
- 1:04:43one. So my onetoone program. So the
- 1:04:45winner would get that for free. And
- 1:04:49the engagement in the group literally
- 1:04:52shot up like overnight because people
- 1:04:54were gunning for it. Right now, you got
- 1:04:56to reel that in because you got to you
- 1:04:59can't have people posting 15 times a
- 1:05:00day. But what ended up happening was is
- 1:05:04a bunch of people got their flame,
- 1:05:06somebody won the contest, and then the
- 1:05:09anyone who got their flame got a credit
- 1:05:11towards joining my my high ticket group.
- 1:05:15I'm doing the same thing this month. The
- 1:05:17prize is even bigger because I have a
- 1:05:18three-year mastermind group that I have
- 1:05:21and the the credit to get the flame is
- 1:05:24even higher. So, it worked once before.
- 1:05:27I'm doing it again. So the positioning
- 1:05:29here is think of an outrageous prize
- 1:05:32that you can give away. That's not
- 1:05:34dollars, right? Don't give away unless
- 1:05:35you want to give away cash. You can do
- 1:05:36that. But the requirement is get the
- 1:05:39flame and they have to be an annual
- 1:05:41member. It's a great way to get people
- 1:05:42to upgrade to annual. And it's also a
- 1:05:45great way to boost the engagement up.
- 1:05:46And then for your members, it starts to
- 1:05:50build the habit of showing up every day
- 1:05:52because you've got to show up for 30
- 1:05:54days straight and do the 10 activities.
- 1:05:56and it just brings them to the group.
- 1:05:58And the more they're in the group, the
- 1:06:00more they're interacting with people,
- 1:06:02making relationships,
- 1:06:04maybe they'll watch your classroom
- 1:06:06stuff. I've had a bunch of It's the
- 1:06:07fifth day of January. I've had a bunch
- 1:06:09of people that have upgraded to my
- 1:06:11premium tier and people that have
- 1:06:13upgraded to my high ticket group already
- 1:06:16just from launching the contest. So,
- 1:06:18something that I really, really
- 1:06:19recommend people look at doing.
- 1:06:21>> Beautiful. And Alex Moi talks about this
- 1:06:24in the giveaways, right?
- 1:06:26uh in the in in um 100 million money
- 1:06:28models in the giveaway section, the
- 1:06:30attraction model.
- 1:06:32>> And he says, "Run a giveaway on
- 1:06:34something that you actually want to sell
- 1:06:37or you're already selling, something you
- 1:06:38want people to upgrade to, right?
- 1:06:40>> Cuz when people work towards that thing
- 1:06:45um and they don't get it, now they
- 1:06:48really want it, [laughter] right?
- 1:06:49[gasps] And if it's available, they'll
- 1:06:51pay for it. But they already got into
- 1:06:53the habit of working towards it and
- 1:06:55investing their time to be able to
- 1:06:57achieve it. Yeah.
- 1:06:58>> And they've seen other people win it.
- 1:07:00And especially if you get like a
- 1:07:01testimonial from people that have won
- 1:07:03the giveaway and you know went through
- 1:07:05the program for example and they
- 1:07:06achieved whatever then people were
- 1:07:10already in that mindset of I want to win
- 1:07:12this thing to now wow this person won
- 1:07:15this thing and they went through it and
- 1:07:18they achieved this. Now I want this
- 1:07:21thing. I'm not going to wait for the
- 1:07:22next time he's going to run the
- 1:07:24giveaway. I want it now. Right.
- 1:07:26>> So now they they've gone from the
- 1:07:28mindset of desiring it to buying it in
- 1:07:31order to get it.
- 1:07:32>> Absolutely.
- 1:07:32>> So I think giveaways work like a charm,
- 1:07:34especially if you position them around
- 1:07:36engagement and winning something that's
- 1:07:39really truly mean meaningful
- 1:07:41>> around uh their um you know around them
- 1:07:45achieving their desire desired outcome.
- 1:07:48It works a treat. And yeah,
- 1:07:51>> it does. It does. And it's a lot of fun
- 1:07:53to be a part of it, too. Like it
- 1:07:55literally the flip get the switch gets
- 1:07:56flipped overnight. As soon as January 1
- 1:07:59came along, it was like all of a sudden
- 1:08:00people started posting a lot more and
- 1:08:03they're interacting and it's it's it's
- 1:08:05it's a it's good for them, too, because
- 1:08:08you can remind them when they're like,
- 1:08:10you know what, I'm not as I just don't
- 1:08:13feel like I'm as engaged in my group
- 1:08:15right now and and things aren't going.
- 1:08:17I'm like, "Hey, remember how active you
- 1:08:18were during the flame contest?" Like,
- 1:08:20that's what it takes. That like that's
- 1:08:22the level of intensity that you should
- 1:08:24bring to your own group and to your lead
- 1:08:26gen effort. Like, bring that every
- 1:08:29single day. So, it really helps them
- 1:08:30develop that habit, which again creates
- 1:08:32more winners in the group. And the more
- 1:08:34wins you can give people in your
- 1:08:36community, the better the better
- 1:08:37everyone's going to be.
- 1:08:38>> Yeah, I did something similar. So I
- 1:08:40offered three one-to-one sessions where
- 1:08:44I u
- 1:08:46>> um give the members you know we'll talk
- 1:08:49about the bottlenecks and their goals
- 1:08:51and stuff like that in that one-to-one
- 1:08:53strategy call. It's not like a sales
- 1:08:54call. It's an actual strategy call where
- 1:08:56they you know we talk about their issues
- 1:08:59and what they want to achieve etc. And I
- 1:09:01give them like a strategy plan, their
- 1:09:02next steps etc. So I did I gave away
- 1:09:05three of those and the result was
- 1:09:09outrageous. In the end we um got to 22
- 1:09:15ranked 22 on the money category
- 1:09:18>> from a very small group which I had just
- 1:09:20started. We achieved I think about 5,000
- 1:09:24activities in one day.
- 1:09:25>> Wow. [laughter]
- 1:09:26[gasps]
- 1:09:27>> That was insane. I think you you
- 1:09:29probably commented on that post um which
- 1:09:32I uh posted on schoolers community with
- 1:09:35with how we got to number 22 on the
- 1:09:38money.
- 1:09:38>> I remember that one. Yes. Yeah. That's
- 1:09:41that
- 1:09:41>> that that one of the tactics that I used
- 1:09:44was the giveaway. So I literally
- 1:09:47spent three hours with those people. So
- 1:09:50an hour each, maybe a bit more. You
- 1:09:51know, some people needed a bit more
- 1:09:53attention. But what was my investment?
- 1:09:55It was my time. It wasn't I give gave
- 1:09:58them money. It was my time. Three, four,
- 1:10:00five hours, whatever it takes, right?
- 1:10:02And it will really create some crazy
- 1:10:04engagements which will help you rank
- 1:10:06your community which then will give you
- 1:10:08more traffic to your community because
- 1:10:10now people see you more. So it's it's
- 1:10:13very very important to like come up with
- 1:10:15these tactics. Now let's talk about a
- 1:10:19uh 45 year old lurker with a halfbuilt
- 1:10:24school.
- 1:10:26If they gave you 30 days of honest
- 1:10:29effort, what are the first three moves
- 1:10:32you'd have them make this week? And what
- 1:10:35would their simple day checklist, daily
- 1:10:37checklist would look like?
- 1:10:39>> 45 days lurker,
- 1:10:41>> 45year-old lurker,
- 1:10:43>> lurker
- 1:10:43>> with a halfbuilt school. They gave you
- 1:10:4630 days of honest effort. What are the
- 1:10:49first three moves you'd have them make
- 1:10:51this week? And what would the simple
- 1:10:55daily checklist look like?
- 1:10:57>> Yeah. Okay. So, what I would This is
- 1:10:59This is great. So, what I cuz I've
- 1:11:01actually doing this with a with a few
- 1:11:03people right now, but they're not 45.
- 1:11:05They're a little bit older. Um, number
- 1:11:07one,
- 1:11:08>> okay, 45 to 70 year old. [laughter]
- 1:11:10Okay. Number one is I would make the
- 1:11:18traffic visible. So, I would I would
- 1:11:20train them to tr to check their about
- 1:11:23page traffic every single day. Like when
- 1:11:25you turn on your computer in the
- 1:11:27morning, that's the first thing I want
- 1:11:28you to look at. I don't want you to look
- 1:11:29at social media. I don't want to look at
- 1:11:31your bank account. I want you to look at
- 1:11:32your numbers because I I want I want you
- 1:11:34to see it and I want you to understand
- 1:11:36why this is important. So, number one
- 1:11:38would be check the numbers, right? Check
- 1:11:40the metrics. You always want to look at
- 1:11:41that. And then I would start with I'm
- 1:11:44just going to assume this person has
- 1:11:46some insecurities around creating
- 1:11:48content. And I would just give them the
- 1:11:5050 comments per day. So I would go into
- 1:11:52the schoolers platform, schoolers only.
- 1:11:54I wouldn't join other I wouldn't tell
- 1:11:55them to join other groups because this
- 1:11:57person is probably distracted. That's
- 1:11:59why they're lurking and that's why they
- 1:12:00have halffinish stuff. So go into
- 1:12:02schoolers and go in and find posts.
- 1:12:04It'll take you about an hour to do this
- 1:12:06because I've done this and I've timed
- 1:12:08it. I've done it myself. It'll take you
- 1:12:10It take you about an hour to make 50
- 1:12:12comments and you do that for one week.
- 1:12:14Okay? do it for one week because this is
- 1:12:16this is what you're asking me to do,
- 1:12:18right? And then I want you to post once
- 1:12:21per day inside of the community. I want
- 1:12:24you to make one post per day and it
- 1:12:26doesn't have to be anything mind-blowing
- 1:12:28or groundbreaking. You can do a fun
- 1:12:30post. You can ask questions. I want you
- 1:12:33to just be a present owner. And then at
- 1:12:37the So on day one, I want you to
- 1:12:39screenshot how many visitors you have to
- 1:12:41your about page. And on day seven, I
- 1:12:43want you to screenshot how many visitors
- 1:12:44you have. And if you do the 50 and you
- 1:12:47make the one post, you will likely have
- 1:12:49more members. You will definitely have
- 1:12:51more traffic. And that 7-day window will
- 1:12:54prove to you that if you do this for a
- 1:12:55long period of time,
- 1:12:58that's going to compound and stack up.
- 1:13:00Would you advise them to then talk about
- 1:13:02their progress with their community with
- 1:13:04the strategies they are doing in the
- 1:13:07schoolers community? And then people
- 1:13:09will then comment on
- 1:13:12on on that post and then from people
- 1:13:15commenting on that post and seeing their
- 1:13:17profile, they might want to join their
- 1:13:18community.
- 1:13:19>> Okay.
- 1:13:20>> What are your thoughts on that?
- 1:13:20>> Let me let me let me just give this back
- 1:13:23to you so I understand this. So you're
- 1:13:25saying that to share inside the
- 1:13:27community what they're actually doing
- 1:13:29like I'm making the 50 comments per day.
- 1:13:31I'm doing all the things that Brian
- 1:13:32said.
- 1:13:32>> No, no, no. So in the schoolers
- 1:13:35community, you just talk about what
- 1:13:37you're doing,
- 1:13:40just your progress with your own
- 1:13:42community. It's like you're sharing a
- 1:13:44live build. Look, I'm doing this with my
- 1:13:46community. What are your thoughts?
- 1:13:48Whatever. Right. It's like you're
- 1:13:49building publicly.
- 1:13:51>> Oh yeah.
- 1:13:51>> And you're just sharing your progress
- 1:13:53>> without without question. I mean,
- 1:13:54schoolers eats that stuff up. Those
- 1:13:55types of posts where
- 1:13:57>> they love it, right?
- 1:13:58>> Absolutely love it. And I and I and I
- 1:13:59always those are the easiest posts to
- 1:14:01make, too. tie it back to the community
- 1:14:03and I would so this is exactly how I
- 1:14:05advise this person. I would say hey look
- 1:14:08I went to sleep on my community and
- 1:14:11here's what I'm going to do to revive it
- 1:14:12from the dead and then I'm going to
- 1:14:15check in with you at the end of the
- 1:14:16week. So that would be post number two.
- 1:14:18So after the seven days here's what I
- 1:14:21did. So or here here were the results.
- 1:14:22So I would do the first I would do
- 1:14:24number one for accountability. like I'm
- 1:14:26doing this. I'm committing to this in
- 1:14:27front of 180,000 people and then at the
- 1:14:30end of the seven days I would give I
- 1:14:32would give the update and likely without
- 1:14:35not likely almost guaranteed they would
- 1:14:37get members just from the post if they
- 1:14:40had a free especially they had a free
- 1:14:41community. I mean you can I say this all
- 1:14:44the time and I I I've thought about
- 1:14:45doing this to prove a point. If I do the
- 1:14:4850 comments for 120 days straight and I
- 1:14:50do nothing else, I will have 500 people
- 1:14:53in my community just from schoolers if I
- 1:14:56did nothing else. And people look at me
- 1:14:57like I'm crazy when I say that. But I
- 1:14:59know that I would be able to do it.
- 1:15:03People don't just don't understand that
- 1:15:04that that how powerful that is.
- 1:15:06>> It is so powerful. And if they really
- 1:15:09want to know, they could just have
- 1:15:12in in the membership questions a source
- 1:15:15attribution. how did you find out about
- 1:15:18this community? And they'll see that a
- 1:15:20lot of people would answer from
- 1:15:22schoolers, from your post. Because I've
- 1:15:24tried that with the my new community. Um
- 1:15:27they'll say, I've seen your post on
- 1:15:29schoolers. I've seen you on YouTube.
- 1:15:32I've seen you on, you know what I mean?
- 1:15:33They'll tell you exactly where they've
- 1:15:35where they've seen you and when they
- 1:15:36where they came from. This will give you
- 1:15:38an idea about where people are coming
- 1:15:40from so that you can double down on it.
- 1:15:42But hopefully when school attri when um
- 1:15:44uh source attribution comes out
- 1:15:46hopefully soon this month they said then
- 1:15:49it's going to really really make it so
- 1:15:51easy for us to figure out where traffic
- 1:15:53is coming from and double down on it.
- 1:15:56Now,
- 1:15:58uh, when should a school owner, school
- 1:16:00community owner move from just do the
- 1:16:03reps into actually using tools and
- 1:16:06systems to track leads, DMs, and member
- 1:16:09behavior and really like get into the
- 1:16:11nitty and gritty of the stuff.
- 1:16:13>> This is a tough question to answer, but
- 1:16:15it's a good one for sure. It's I don't
- 1:16:17know if it's necessarily a certain
- 1:16:20number of members or
- 1:16:24whether you're free or paid. I think
- 1:16:26it's more of a feeling of how many
- 1:16:28people are active in the group, right?
- 1:16:30Because you could have a hundred
- 1:16:32members, but nobody's active in the
- 1:16:33group. So, I have a I have a very active
- 1:16:36community, especially now with the flame
- 1:16:38contest going on. And the the larger the
- 1:16:41group gets, the more challenging it gets
- 1:16:43to to organize everyone, right? So, and
- 1:16:46you can't really do it inside of school.
- 1:16:47You have to take people off platform.
- 1:16:49So, you got to download the member list
- 1:16:50and you got to put into a CRM of some
- 1:16:52kind or you got to create a Google
- 1:16:53sheet. You know, there's a lot of zaps
- 1:16:55you can do. There's a lot of different
- 1:16:56methodology, a lot of different methods
- 1:16:58to get this done. But I would want, if I
- 1:17:01were going to start now, that would be
- 1:17:02something that I would want set up in
- 1:17:05the beginning to at least start to
- 1:17:08create many tags for people. Like you
- 1:17:11said, you have the membership questions.
- 1:17:13Where did you come from? I would want to
- 1:17:15know. I mean, that's you can download
- 1:17:17that list and and and keep track of it,
- 1:17:20but that would be something that I would
- 1:17:21want to pay attention to. And then you
- 1:17:23could always add columns like, okay,
- 1:17:24this person is, you know, maybe a cold
- 1:17:26lead or, you know, they they asked I had
- 1:17:28a DM conversation about them. They asked
- 1:17:30about, you know, the the paid group or I
- 1:17:33asked about this tier, but it would be
- 1:17:35something that I would want to put
- 1:17:36together sooner than later. The more
- 1:17:39advanced stuff is going to be really
- 1:17:41based on how active your group is in in
- 1:17:44in in my opinion. Again, I like to limit
- 1:17:47people's distractions because that is
- 1:17:49something you can get caught up in is
- 1:17:52looking at all the data. Like I just
- 1:17:54want to get people in the group. Like do
- 1:17:56your lead genen, get people in the group
- 1:17:58and serve them and get them winning
- 1:17:59because the the faster you can get them
- 1:18:01to win, the greater the likelihood that
- 1:18:04they're going to leave you a testimonial
- 1:18:05and or tell other people about your
- 1:18:07community.
- 1:18:07>> Beautiful. Brian, this has been super
- 1:18:09grounding, man. For anyone who resonated
- 1:18:12with this uh burnt out from the 9 to5
- 1:18:15late starts but not done yet, where's
- 1:18:18the best place for them to go deeper
- 1:18:20with you?
- 1:18:20>> Well, you can check out Mindset School.
- 1:18:22It's uh on the Schoolers platform and
- 1:18:25that's probably the best start if you're
- 1:18:27really not sure the direction to go in
- 1:18:30and and you want some one-to-one support
- 1:18:33from me and you want to join a pretty
- 1:18:35awesome group. So, thanks for giving me
- 1:18:37the opportunity to talk about that.
- 1:18:38>> No worries, man. I I'll leave you guys
- 1:18:40the link to um Brian's community uh down
- 1:18:43below in the description. Check it out.
- 1:18:45And for those of you already running a
- 1:18:47school community and hitting the good
- 1:18:49problems like too many DMs, you know,
- 1:18:52the stuff that we've just talked about,
- 1:18:54uh leads slipping through the cracks,
- 1:18:55where they came from, etc. Not sure
- 1:18:57who's actually engaged, etc. That's
- 1:19:00exactly uh what I'm building. I'm
- 1:19:02building Camozi. I think this is the
- 1:19:04first time I'm talking about it on
- 1:19:06YouTube. Um, so it's going to be
- 1:19:09everything all in one place. It's going
- 1:19:10to have a CRM like a proper real CRM.
- 1:19:14Um, so you don't have to do any zaps or
- 1:19:16anything like that. It's all going to be
- 1:19:18native to school. There's going to be uh
- 1:19:21very advanced analytics. Whatever school
- 1:19:23gives you plus
- 1:19:25um, you know, advanced analyt analytics.
- 1:19:27On top of that, there's going to be
- 1:19:29scheduled posts. is going to be
- 1:19:31automated um DMs um and sequences based
- 1:19:37on people's actions. You know, you can
- 1:19:39think of it like the many chats for
- 1:19:41school, but like a proper proper one.
- 1:19:44So, it's going to eliminate a lot of
- 1:19:46hard work and effort and basically stuff
- 1:19:49that a robot can do rather than you
- 1:19:52having to do it manually. It's going to
- 1:19:53eliminate a lot of spreadsheet work and
- 1:19:56you know, you being spread too thin.
- 1:19:59Maybe if you're, you know, employing a
- 1:20:01VA or two, maybe you don't have to
- 1:20:04employ them anymore, right? Because you
- 1:20:05can, you can do all of it, you know,
- 1:20:07automatically. So, if you guys are
- 1:20:09interested in being founding members and
- 1:20:14uh be being in in the community where
- 1:20:16it's all going to launch, I'm going to
- 1:20:18leave you a link down below in the
- 1:20:19description, the Komozi community, where
- 1:20:21we're going to be giving um free access
- 1:20:24to founding members so they can try it
- 1:20:27out. we'll build it with you. Um, and
- 1:20:30it's going to be absolutely huge. Um, I
- 1:20:32know a lot of people are really excited
- 1:20:34about it coming out. So, if you're
