- 0:00How to get whatever you want. That's the
- 0:02title of the next set of notes. How to
- 0:04get whatever you want. Here's what it
- 0:06says if you're ready. It says,
- 0:08ask.
- 0:10That's [music] it.
- 0:12End of notes.
- 0:14Ask. [music] If there's one art in life
- 0:17to learn extremely well, that's got to
- 0:19be one of them. The art of asking.
- 0:24What does ask mean? Ask means, what do
- 0:27you want?
- 0:29And the formula is staggering.
- 0:31It says ask [music] and what?
- 0:35A guy ought to look into that. See,
- 0:37you've got to be better than a good
- 0:38worker, you've got to be a good asker.
- 0:41Now, let me give you three key points on
- 0:42asking and receiving. Number one, asking
- 0:46is the beginning of receiving.
- 0:48Asking starts a unique process,
- 0:51>> [music]
- 0:51>> mental and emotional. I don't even know
- 0:53how it works. All I know is, it works.
- 0:56It's like pushing a button and all this
- 0:58machinery starts [music] working.
- 1:00I don't know how, it just works. There's
- 1:03a lot of things you don't need to know
- 1:05how, just work them.
- 1:09Some people are always studying the
- 1:10roots, others are picking the fruit.
- 1:12[music]
- 1:13I mean, it depends on what end of it you
- 1:14want in on.
- 1:16Asking is the beginning of receiving, so
- 1:18start the process. [music] Here's number
- 1:19two, receiving is not the problem.
- 1:23Receiving is automatic.
- 1:25>> [music]
- 1:27>> Now, if that's true, receiving is not
- 1:28the problem, what's the problem?
- 1:31Failure to ask
- 1:33>> [music]
- 1:33>> might be one of your major problems. I
- 1:35don't know, check it out.
- 1:38The guy says, "Oh, now I see it. I got
- 1:41up last year and hit it every day, but
- 1:43there's not [music] a scrap of paper
- 1:44with my goals
- 1:46on it."
- 1:48Good worker, [music]
- 1:51poor asker.
- 1:52So, you got to change that.
- 1:54Here's number three, receiving
- 1:57is like the [music] ocean.
- 1:59There's plenty.
- 2:01Success is not in short supply.
- 2:05It isn't rationed.
- 2:07>> [music]
- 2:07>> And you stepped up to the window and it
- 2:08was all gone. No, no, no.
- 2:11It's like an ocean here.
- 2:15Now, if that's true, what's the problem?
- 2:16Well, some people go to the ocean with a
- 2:18teaspoon. [music]
- 2:20>> [laughter]
- 2:22>> Have you got the picture?
- 2:25See, what you want to do in view of the
- 2:26size of the ocean is trade your teaspoon
- 2:29for at least a bucket.
- 2:31>> [music]
- 2:32>> Now, there's two ways to ask. Here's
- 2:33number one. Ask with intelligence.
- 2:37Don't mumble. You don't get anything by
- 2:39mumbling.
- 2:41Be clear. Be specific. Intelligent
- 2:43asking means how wide, how high, how
- 2:46soon, when, what size, what color, how
- 2:48much.
- 2:49Define what you want and describe what
- 2:52you want.
- 2:54That's powerful.
- 2:56Goals become like a magnet. They pull
- 2:58you that direction. And the better you
- 3:00describe them, the more they pull.
- 3:02>> [music]
- 3:03>> So, ask intelligently. Here's number
- 3:04two.
- 3:05Ask with faith.
- 3:08That's the childish [music] part of the
- 3:09equation.
- 3:10Believe you can get what you want like a
- 3:13child. [music]
- 3:15Not an adult. Adults are too skeptical.
- 3:19[music]
- 3:20So, the formula really reads, make plans
- 3:23like an adult and believe in it like a
- 3:25child.
- 3:27And the most incredible things will
- 3:28happen.
- 3:30Just try it for 90 days.
- 3:33Now, here's the last qualifying phrase
- 3:34on goal setting, as we promised to
- 3:35qualify everything.
- 3:36>> [music]
- 3:37>> And it simply goes like this. Remember,
- 3:40you won't get everything [music]
- 3:42you want.
- 3:43And we've already studied the reason for
- 3:45that. Simply, sometimes
- 3:47>> [music]
- 3:47>> it hails on your crop
- 3:49and rains on your parade. It's that kind
- 3:52of planet. So, you won't get everything
- 3:53you want, but if you will work this
- 3:56goal-setting formula, you can get plenty
- 3:58for wealth and happiness.
- 4:03If there's one thing to get excited
- 4:05over, that's it. Get excited over your
- 4:07ability to make yourself do the
- 4:10necessary things.
- 4:14What could you make yourself do starting
- 4:16tomorrow that would change it all? No,
- 4:18tell it.
- 4:23Now, see that's exciting. On any given
- 4:26day, you can massively change the
- 4:28direction of your life.
- 4:30Now, here's the best word I know of to
- 4:31go with action. Massive.
- 4:35See, that'll change everything.
- 4:37Massive action is called the cure-all.
- 4:41If you're going to make calls, make a
- 4:42few thousand.
- 4:44If you're going to make contacts, make a
- 4:46few thousand.
- 4:48If you're going to knock on doors, knock
- 4:49on a few thousand.
- 4:52See, that'll change everything.
- 4:54Here's the language of the poor.
- 4:55I'll try it a time or two and see what
- 4:57happens. It's the way poor people talk.
- 5:01The guy says, "Well, I'll give it 30
- 5:03days." 30 days, you could guess his bank
- 5:06balance.
- 5:08>> [music]
- 5:08>> You've got to have a better game plan.
- 5:13The formula really works like this. Pick
- 5:14up a good idea, take heavy action.
- 5:16[music] Take heavy action on a good
- 5:18idea.
- 5:20Don't wait till you've learned two or
- 5:21three thousand things.
- 5:24Because that way you'll use up all the
- 5:25time.
- 5:27And you could wind up smart and broke.
- 5:32And hey, it's okay to be dumb and broke.
- 5:35But if a guy's smart and broke, that's
- 5:36pitiful.
- 5:39Don't let your learning lead to
- 5:41knowledge. You'll become a fool.
- 5:44Let your learning lead to action. You
- 5:47can become wealthy.
- 5:49So, here's one of the major things to do
- 5:50starting tomorrow. Take a look at your
- 5:52game plan.
- 5:53If it isn't loaded with massive action,
- 5:55change it.
- 5:58Tomorrow.
- 6:01Action.
- 6:03So, there's all kinds of wealth, but to
- 6:05get a big share coming your way, you've
- 6:06got to have a heavy action
- 6:08>> [music]
- 6:08>> game plan.
- 6:11Don't wish it was easier, wish you were
- 6:14better.
- 6:18See, that triggered my whole life
- 6:20change.
- 6:22Don't wish for less problems, wish for
- 6:25more skills.
- 6:27Don't wish for less challenge, wish for
- 6:31more wisdom.
- 6:33See, that's the difference in how your
- 6:34life works out. It's not what happens,
- 6:36it's what you do. Starting tomorrow,
- 6:38what are you going to do
- 6:41that'll make a change in your life's
- 6:42direction?
- 6:45Good question. What are you going to do
- 6:46starting tomorrow that'll make a
- 6:47difference?
- 6:50Now, see if you don't do something
- 6:52starting tomorrow that'll make a
- 6:53difference, guess what?
- 6:56It's going to be the same.
- 6:59>> [laughter]
- 7:01>> And see, that way you can guess what the
- 7:03next 5 years are going to be like. Look
- 7:04at the last five.
- 7:08Cuz the next five are going to be like
- 7:09the last five unless you, major key,
- 7:12tomorrow, change it all.
- 7:14Or change a little, or change something,
- 7:16or don't change. It's choice time. You
- 7:18can do whatever you want.
- 7:21But it's nice to know any day you wish
- 7:22you can change your whole life.
- 7:25What can you do starting [music]
- 7:27tomorrow that'll make a difference?
- 7:30Anything.
- 7:33Success is something you attract, not
- 7:35something you pursue.
- 7:37Success is looking for a good place to
- 7:38stay.
- 7:40So, instead of going after it, you work
- 7:42on yourself. Personal development.
- 7:45See, the major question to ask on the
- 7:47job is not what are you getting. The
- 7:50major question to ask on the job is what
- 7:52are you becoming?
- 7:56So, the big question is not what am I
- 7:57getting paid here. The big question is
- 7:59what am I becoming
- 8:01here?
- 8:04Because true happiness is not contained
- 8:07in what you get. Happiness is contained
- 8:10in what you become.
- 8:12Four major lessons in life to learn.
- 8:14Here they are. Number one,
- 8:16learn how to handle the winters.
- 8:19That's lesson one.
- 8:21They come right after falls
- 8:23with
- 8:25regularity. [music]
- 8:27Some are long and some are short and
- 8:29some are hard and some are easy, but
- 8:30they keep coming.
- 8:33You must learn to handle the nights.
- 8:35They come right after days. You must
- 8:37learn to handle difficulty. It comes
- 8:39right after opportunity.
- 8:41You must learn to handle recessions.
- 8:43They always follow progressions. For the
- 8:45last 6,000
- 8:48See, it isn't going to change. The
- 8:49lesson you must learn is how to handle
- 8:51it.
- 8:53And there's all kinds of winters, right?
- 8:55The winter when you can't figure it out.
- 8:57The winter when it all goes smash. The
- 9:00winter when it turns belly up.
- 9:03The winter when it won't work, when
- 9:05you've run out of money, and you've got
- 9:07a broken heart. See, those are winter
- 9:08times.
- 9:11There's all kinds. [music] Economic
- 9:12winters, social winters, personal
- 9:16winters. [music] When your heart is
- 9:18smashed in a thousand pieces.
- 9:21And the nights are unusually long. Your
- 9:23prayers seem to go no higher than your
- 9:25head. It's winter time.
- 9:29But see, the disappointments come.
- 9:31Those are normal. That's part of life.
- 9:34But the question is, how do you handle
- 9:36it?
- 9:37How do you handle the coming winters and
- 9:39the disappointments and the down times?
- 9:41Well,
- 9:42you can't get rid of January by tearing
- 9:44it off the calendar.
- 9:44>> [music]
- 9:47>> But here's what you can do. You can get
- 9:49stronger, you can get wiser, and you can
- 9:53get better.
- 9:56The winters won't change, but you can.
- 9:58And that's how life changes for you.
- 10:01Here's lesson two.
- 10:03Learn how to take advantage of the
- 10:05spring.
- 10:07That's the second [music] one.
- 10:09Spring is called opportunity.
- 10:13See, opportunity always comes.
- 10:15Days follow nights. Isn't that terrific?
- 10:19Opportunity follows difficulty.
- 10:21But here's what you must learn to do.
- 10:23Underline these two words in that key
- 10:24phrase,
- 10:25>> [music]
- 10:25>> take advantage. Underline those two.
- 10:29You must learn to take advantage of the
- 10:31spring.
- 10:33See, just because spring rolls around is
- 10:34no sign you're going to look good come
- 10:36fall. You got to do something with it.
- 10:42In fact, you have to get good at one of
- 10:44two things in life, planting in the
- 10:45spring or begging in the fall.
- 10:49Now, here's what else you must do. Take
- 10:50advantage of the springs quickly because
- 10:53there's only a few, just a handful of
- 10:55springs have been handed to each of us.
- 10:57They don't come forever. Life is fairly
- 10:59brief. So, whatever you're going to do
- 11:00with your life, you got to get at it.
- 11:02Don't just let the springs pass, pass,
- 11:04pass.
- 11:08Here's the third major lesson in life to
- 11:09learn. Learn how to protect your crops
- 11:12all summer.
- 11:14You got to take care of what you start.
- 11:18Sure enough, as soon as you've planted
- 11:21your garden in the spring,
- 11:23the busy bugs and the noxious weeds are
- 11:25out to take it.
- 11:26You've got to learn to prevent the
- 11:28intruder from taking all the good you
- 11:30start.
- 11:32It's one of the challenges. All good
- 11:35will be attacked.
- 11:37Every garden will be invaded. Not to
- 11:40think so is naive.
- 11:43All values must be defended.
- 11:48Political values, [music] social values,
- 11:50community values, family values,
- 11:52marriage values, friendship values,
- 11:54business values. Every garden must be
- 11:58tended all summer.
- 12:01Third [music] major lesson.
- 12:03Now, here's number four.
- 12:05Learn to reap come harvest time
- 12:07>> [music]
- 12:08>> without complaint.
- 12:10Take full responsibility for what
- 12:12happens to you.
- 12:15It's one of the [music] highest forms of
- 12:16human maturity, accepting full
- 12:18responsibility.
- 12:21It's the day you know you've passed from
- 12:23childhood to adulthood, the day you
- 12:25accept [music] full responsibility.
- 12:30And another note, learn to reap in the
- 12:32fall without apology.
- 12:34Without apology if you do well and
- 12:38without complaint if you don't.
- 12:41That's maturity. [music]
- 12:43So, that's a key phrase. It's not what
- 12:45happens, it's what you do.
- 12:48Anything can happen, right? Everything
- 12:49can happen. I've heard all the stories.
- 12:51I've been one of the stories.
- 12:54Hey, we could all tell stories all night
- 12:55long, right? Happenings.
- 12:58Anything can happen. If anything can go
- 13:00wrong, it will.
- 13:03That's one of Murphy's laws.
- 13:05He was not one of the great positive
- 13:07speakers of the day, but anyway,
- 13:09it's still true though, right? Anything
- 13:10can go wrong, everything can go wrong.
- 13:12For sure. [music]
- 13:13Everything can happen, anything can
- 13:15happen.
- 13:16But it's not the happenings, it's what
- 13:18you do about it. Everybody's had their
- 13:21share.
- 13:23Disappointments are not special gifts
- 13:25reserved for the poor.
- 13:28Everybody has them. The difference is
- 13:30what you do about.
