Full transcript
- 0:00I've got a small YouTube channel, like
- 0:02really small.
- 0:03And I I just don't know where to go
- 0:06other than just make more content.
- 0:09>> What do you sell?
- 0:09>> I've watched y'all's stuff.
- 0:11>> Thanks.
- 0:12>> I don't have anything to sell. That's
- 0:13>> What do you make YouTube about?
- 0:17>> What was that?
- 0:17>> What do you What's the YouTube about?
- 0:20>> It's uh hunting, fishing, outdoors. I'm
- 0:23an outdoorsman.
- 0:24>> Okay.
- 0:24>> Oh, that's cool. And how many uh
- 0:26subscribers do you have or views do you
- 0:27get a month?
- 0:30>> Uh so, I've got 2,000 subscribers.
- 0:33>> Okay.
- 0:34>> And I last In the last 28 days, I've
- 0:37gotten almost a quarter of a million
- 0:38views, mostly from shorts. I haven't
- 0:40posted any longs yet.
- 0:41>> Okay.
- 0:44All right.
- 0:46>> I post
- 0:47>> do to make money?
- 0:48>> Yeah, how do you live?
- 0:51>> Uh I have a job. I work 40 hours a week.
- 0:54>> What do you Like, what do you do,
- 0:55though?
- 0:57>> I make lawn mower parts.
- 1:00>> All right.
- 1:02>> Nice.
- 1:02>> All right. Um
- 1:05Okay.
- 1:06I I think you're early.
- 1:11>> Mhm.
- 1:12>> I think you're early. So, I do think
- 1:14that you should start making some longs
- 1:16because longs is what's going to deepen
- 1:17your kind of influence with the
- 1:18audience. You want to You want to
- 1:19demonstrate more expertise around
- 1:21hunting. Um and if you're like, I don't
- 1:23know how to do that, just take three or
- 1:25four long I'm sorry, short concepts that
- 1:27were good and just loop them together.
- 1:28Not not literally loop them together.
- 1:30Just, you know, make a video that covers
- 1:31each of those
- 1:32uh each of those concepts, you know, in
- 1:34tandem and work your way to a five or
- 1:36eight or 10-minute video.
- 1:38>> Mhm.
- 1:39>> And I would start doing that. I just
- 1:40think you're I think you're early, dude.
- 1:43>> Okay. So, just basically just do more.
- 1:47>> Yeah, and and do better, too. You know
- 1:48what I mean? Like, I think you got You
- 1:49got to learn a little bit more about the
- 1:50content game. Um
- 1:52>> Mhm.
- 1:53>> Yeah.
- 1:54>> I would say, like,
- 1:56what Right now, are you spending all of
- 1:58your time making content for YouTube
- 2:00outside of work?
- 2:03>> Just about, yes.
- 2:04>> Yeah, and how long have you been doing
- 2:05it?
- 2:06>> I can spare, I do, yeah.
- 2:07>> No, you're good.
- 2:08>> How long have you been doing it?
- 2:11>> So, I started the channel several years
- 2:13ago and
- 2:15kind of got very very inconsistent, and
- 2:18then I
- 2:19about 2 months ago I decided to really
- 2:21get after it.
- 2:22>> Okay. Well, okay, I think that we can
- 2:24both tell you this, which is like
- 2:26YouTube is a game of consistency.
- 2:28Like that's just that's how the platform
- 2:30works, so
- 2:32I think the biggest thing that you can
- 2:33do right now is just be consistent.
- 2:34Because if you look at like how to go
- 2:36from just like okay or mediocre to just
- 2:37like good, solid, it's consistency. And
- 2:40then if you want to get to like great,
- 2:42it's like continued improvement while
- 2:44being consistent.
- 2:46So, I guess the question is how many
- 2:47shorts and how many longs do you commit
- 2:49to making per week?
- 2:52>> So,
- 2:53I was at one point I was doing one a day
- 2:56and I was it was great. But,
- 2:59I'm kind of back down to like three a
- 3:01week, three or four a week.
- 3:03>> You mean for the shorts, right?
- 3:06>> Yes, sir.
- 3:07>> Yeah. I think I mean, you do have to do
- 3:09more and you have to do it consistently,
- 3:11and I would just tell you that like
- 3:12right now you're not multi like just for
- 3:14your own self,
- 3:15do not consider yourself having done
- 3:17this for years. You've been doing it for
- 3:188 weeks.
- 3:21>> Yes.
- 3:21>> So, you're super early, man.
- 3:23>> Yeah.
- 3:24>> You're super early.
- 3:25>> Okay.
- 3:26>> So, I just like I wouldn't even think
- 3:27about monetizing it right now.
- 3:29Like you just want to take 5:00 a.m. to
- 3:309:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.,
- 3:33your 5:00 to 9:00, beginning of day, end
- 3:35of day, and I put all of that into
- 3:37making sure no matter what, I got out I
- 3:39get out one short a day, and then on my
- 3:41weekends, I'm going to make sure that I
- 3:42get at least one long out.
- 3:46>> Okay. All right.
- 3:47>> What's your goal?
- 3:48>> One more question.
- 3:49What's my goal?
- 3:50>> Yeah.
- 3:51Do you want to quit your job? Do you
- 3:53want to build a company?
- 3:55>> Yes, I
- 3:56I believe if I can just replace my
- 3:59income from my job with this, then I
- 4:02could scale it up and uh
- 4:05I guess the my number would be about 10
- 4:07grand a month.
- 4:08>> Okay. Can I ask you something if you
- 4:10could be super honest?
- 4:12>> Mhm.
- 4:13>> What stops you from making one video a
- 4:15day like you were? Like what what
- 4:18behavior?
- 4:21>> Um mostly
- 4:23just life gets in the way or I get
- 4:25talking and
- 4:27to somebody and then
- 4:29sun goes down and now I'm out of
- 4:31daylight.
- 4:34>> So, if you if you want to ask yourself
- 4:35how to be consistent, the question is
- 4:37how do you stop the things from
- 4:38occurring that make you inconsistent?
- 4:41>> Mhm.
- 4:42>> So, it's like do you have the right
- 4:43people surrounding you? Do you have
- 4:44yourself in the right environment? Like
- 4:45those are the things that I think you
- 4:47want to be thinking about right now.
- 4:48Because I know like for myself or Alex
- 4:50when we were first starting out and like
- 4:51making just trying to get into business,
- 4:54I had to put myself in environment where
- 4:56it made it easy to achieve my goals, not
- 4:57hard. Which also meant surrounding
- 4:59myself with people and a routine that
- 5:01made it easy.
- 5:04>> Okay.
- 5:04>> Do you know know how how I define
- 5:06commitment?
- 5:10>> How?
- 5:11>> The elimination of alternatives.
- 5:14You have to get rid of your other
- 5:15options.
- 5:17And I don't mean like you need to quit
- 5:18your job. I mean everything else that is
- 5:21not you make If this is what you want,
- 5:23and that's [snorts] like you can only
- 5:24know that. But if this is really what
- 5:25you want, then it means that you have to
- 5:27say no to everything else in order to
- 5:30truly say yes to this. Cuz every time
- 5:32you say yes to something else, it's
- 5:33saying no to this thing that you want.
- 5:36And almost always the things that we
- 5:37want to say yes to now are short-term
- 5:40long-term. We say yes in the moment
- 5:42because it gives us a short-term
- 5:43short-term good thing, but it prevents
- 5:45us from the long-term bad, uh, long-term
- 5:47great thing.
- 5:50>> Okay.
- 5:51So,
- 5:53I was also thinking,
- 5:55should I post on Instagram,
- 5:58Facebook as well?
- 5:59>> I want you to be consistent with YouTube
- 6:00first, man.
- 6:03>> All right.
- 6:04>> Give me 12 weeks of consistency. You
- 6:05make one long and you make seven shorts
- 6:0712 weeks in a row. You do that and
- 6:09you're like, you know what, I got more
- 6:10The thing is just right now, you have to
- 6:12do that volume so you can become more
- 6:13efficient. But you have to feel the pain
- 6:16of the inefficiency of being like, man,
- 6:17this is a lot of work. Cuz when you do
- 6:19that, all of a sudden you'll start
- 6:20getting faster, you'll start getting
- 6:21better, and your work output and
- 6:23capacity will go up.
- 6:26And then you'll free up the bandwidth
- 6:28because you got more skills, you got
- 6:29more efficient, that you can start
- 6:30looking at, you know what, I'm going to
- 6:31repurpose this on Instagram, I'll
- 6:32repurpose this on TikTok or whatever.
- 6:36>> Okay.
- 6:37>> It's also like, just like really
- 6:39thinking about this, in order to build a
- 6:41business or replace your income, like
- 6:42you want to build that confidence. And
- 6:44confidence is an output, not an input.
- 6:47The input to confidence is becoming
- 6:49incredibly consistent with something, so
- 6:50you get the experience, which makes you
- 6:52competent, and then it leads to
- 6:53confidence. And I think like, in
- 6:54general,
- 6:55if you can't stick with a commitment
- 6:57that you make to yourself, then you
- 6:59you degrade the trust you have with
- 7:00yourself every day.
- 7:02And so like, anything you do, it's not
- 7:04going to come out as good as it could
- 7:05be. It's always going to be harder, it's
- 7:06going to take longer if you don't repair
- 7:08that trust with yourself. So I think
- 7:09like right now, if you're just
- 7:10consistent with the posting, like that
- 7:12is going to make you not just better at
- 7:13business and content, but just better
- 7:15person for yourself, a better, I would
- 7:17say like, partner to yourself in doing
- 7:19this.
- 7:22>> Mhm.
- 7:25That's That's kind of funny because I
- 7:26was watching one of
- 7:28Alex's videos where he was talking about
- 7:30consistency and how it how you get
- 7:33better by doing the thing over and over
- 7:35again.
- 7:37So I started doing that, and I've
- 7:38already noticed that trend.
- 7:41Awesome.
- 7:41>> I think right now it's good to steer a
- 7:43little bit. Like I get obsessive over
- 7:44doing things consistently. Alex knows
- 7:45this. Um but I think you can steer a
- 7:48little bit in the obsessive uh direction
- 7:50right now. I think it'd be good for you.
- 7:52And then you can course correct that
- 7:53later.
- 7:55>> And expect the fact like expect people
- 7:57who are normal and around you to not
- 7:59understand. Expect them to think it's
- 8:01weird. Expect it to not look cool. Like
- 8:03everyone goes through a cringe period.
- 8:06Like you it's going to be lonely because
- 8:07you're trying to do something that's
- 8:08very different. And I make that content
- 8:10where I say like in order to be
- 8:11exceptional you have to become the
- 8:13exception. You're going to probably be
- 8:14surrounded by the majority of people in
- 8:15your life who don't want this, aren't
- 8:17interested in it, think it's dumb, think
- 8:18it's stupid, think it's you trying to be
- 8:21famous, you thinking more of yourself
- 8:23than you really are, all of that stuff.
- 8:25And you just have to just put that in on
- 8:28the shelf and get back to work.
- 8:32Cuz like either they'll be right or you
- 8:33will and you've got a long time to be
- 8:35right.
- 8:39>> That's
- 8:40That's kind of what I was All right,
- 8:41thank you.
- 8:42>> Yeah. They'll be right for now and
- 8:44you'll be right for good.
- 8:48>> Yes, sir. So just keep keep on
- 8:51>> Keep Keep on, baby. Keep on.
- 8:53>> [snorts]
- 8:54>> Thank you very much. You You guys are
- 8:56awesome.
- 8:57>> You better appreciate you, man.
- 8:58>> I'll see you.
