- 0:04>> Why are architects and interior
- 0:06designers the worst marketers? Is a
- 0:08question I hear a lot. But most
- 0:10architects and designers are already
- 0:12producing great, [music]
- 0:13visually engaging content every week.
- 0:16We're talking plans, sections, diagrams,
- 0:18concept drawings. These drawings are
- 0:20brilliant marketing material, but almost
- 0:22none of it ends up on social media.
- 0:24Instead, it stays buried inside CAD
- 0:26files or presentation decks. [music] And
- 0:28the irony is that architects and
- 0:29drawings can actually be compelling
- 0:32visual content you can share and if
- 0:34they're presented properly. And so,
- 0:35really you don't need to create more
- 0:37content. [music] You just need to curate
- 0:38and share the work you're already doing.
- 0:40So, in this video I'm going to show you
- 0:41how to take an existing CAD drawing and
- 0:43turn it into a clean, [music] branded
- 0:45social media visual using Rayon. If you
- 0:48want to follow along, there's a link in
- 0:49the description where you can create a
- 0:50free Rayon account. So, let's dive into
- 0:53it.
- 0:53>> [music]
- 0:55>> The first step is going to be importing
- 0:57the drawing. [music] Most of the time
- 0:59you already have a file like a DWG or
- 1:01DXF or PDF. And so, I'm going to bring
- 1:03that into Rayon. What's nice here is
- 1:05that the file comes in as a clean vector
- 1:07geometry, [music]
- 1:08which means I can edit and style it
- 1:09immediately. Once the drawing is
- 1:11imported, you have two options. Option
- 1:14one is the fastest. You can simply use
- 1:16the existing vector lines and start
- 1:18styling them directly.
- 1:19For example, I can quickly apply fills
- 1:21managing [music] them on the style panel
- 1:22on the right hand side. But if you want
- 1:24a little more control, I can also redraw
- 1:26[music] certain elements using Rayon's
- 1:28wall and zone tools. That gives me much
- 1:30cleaner geometry and more flexibility
- 1:32later. Most of the time though, the goal
- 1:34here is speed. We're trying to create
- 1:35something that is technical [music] and
- 1:37turn it into something visually
- 1:38engaging. And you can see all the vector
- 1:40lines here that have come in with the
- 1:41DWG. You can select these components,
- 1:43edit them, [music]
- 1:44adjust them on the right hand side as
- 1:46you see here. These are all just lines
- 1:48and shapes that [music] you can adjust.
- 1:50So, styling the drawing is where the
- 1:52drawing will start to transform. And so,
- 1:54I'm going to open the style panel on the
- 1:55right hand side and start working into
- 1:57[music] this. And so, the method that
- 1:58I'm going to adopt to style this drawing
- 2:01is to going to be part redraw some of
- 2:03these elements, start using the wall
- 2:04tools, and also part adjusting some
- 2:07[music] of the vector lines. Now, we can
- 2:08start doing that by selecting the wall
- 2:10element at the bottom and we can change
- 2:11the style on the right hand side.
- 2:13>> [music]
- 2:13>> If you click the fill and adjust the
- 2:15hatch to let's say, we'll change the
- 2:17fill to a white at the moment. [music]
- 2:19But you can adjust the strokes so that
- 2:21it looks and feels a little bit more um
- 2:23the hierarchy a little bit cleaner.
- 2:25And so, you can draw your elements like
- 2:27[music] so. So, we're going to draw
- 2:28these wall elements here. You can then
- 2:31select these items [music] and save them
- 2:32as a style. So, we're going to save this
- 2:34as a 0.13 wall. Now, the beauty of this
- 2:36is that if you change [music] any of the
- 2:38colors or any of the strokes, for
- 2:40example, they'll also adjust across all
- 2:42of those elements that have that [music]
- 2:43style assigned to it. And so, this
- 2:45shelving unit, for example, we're going
- 2:46to select some of these vectors and
- 2:48we're going to start just customizing
- 2:50the stroke. So, we can just adjust the
- 2:52strokes to a 0.15
- 2:54mm. We can then save that as a style and
- 2:56then we can start applying that across
- 2:58the drawing. [music] So, then the
- 2:59drawing pops a little bit more. There's
- 3:00a little bit more hierarchy to the line
- 3:02weights. And we can equally [music] do
- 3:03the same with fills. So, we can add a
- 3:06color fill. At the moment, the drawing
- 3:07is very much black and white, [music]
- 3:09but obviously for a social media post
- 3:11you want a little bit more color. You
- 3:12want it to pop a little bit more. And
- 3:13so, we're going to add a kind of brown
- 3:15[music]
- 3:16tint, a kind of creamy brown tint, and
- 3:18adjust this slightly.
- 3:20>> [music]
- 3:20>> And you'll see here that all of the all
- 3:22of the elements that have that style
- 3:23assigned to it have obviously updated.
- 3:25And we can work into this across [music]
- 3:27the drawing. So, we can apply that
- 3:28across some of the horizontal elements.
- 3:31We can then maybe add in a bleak
- 3:33um
- 3:34diagonal pattern to the [music] walls to
- 3:36indicate a kind of cut through of a
- 3:37wall. And we can change the intensity
- 3:39and opacity of [music] that. And then
- 3:41maybe we can add a color into the
- 3:43background
- 3:44uh which we can then do a slightly
- 3:45softer creamy brown [music]
- 3:48um like so.
- 3:50Now, alternatively to applying a hatch
- 3:52or a fill, you can also apply a texture.
- 3:54So, you can apply slightly more
- 3:55realistic texture, [music] for example.
- 3:57So, in this case we're going to apply a
- 3:59I guess this is a kind of carpet finish
- 4:01um but it works quite well in this case
- 4:03where it [music] kind of gives it a kind
- 4:04of basket-y feel
- 4:06um at the bottom here where we maybe
- 4:07have some drawers at the bottom of this
- 4:10um
- 4:10of this cupboard. And you can see here
- 4:12now all of a sudden now we have [music]
- 4:14the different tones of color with then
- 4:16the the kind of wall elements that are
- 4:17kind of framing the drawing.
- 4:19>> [music]
- 4:19>> We now have a variety and a little bit
- 4:21more context and materiality to this
- 4:23drawing. Now, the next step is just
- 4:25going to add some depth cuz it feels a
- 4:26little bit flat at [music] this moment.
- 4:28And that's just going to be to add some
- 4:29shadow. Now, the way to add shadow is
- 4:31really simple. In this case, it's quite
- 4:33easy because we have [music] a kind of
- 4:34grid structure. We can just add some
- 4:36rectangles that we can then fill black
- 4:38and adjust the opacity right down to
- 4:40[music] maybe 20% and remove the stroke.
- 4:42We can then save this as a style as a
- 4:44style. We can save it as shadow and
- 4:46start copying this across [music]
- 4:48copying this item across and start
- 4:49populating the drawing. And as we zoom
- 4:52out, you can see that we've applied lots
- 4:54[music] of different materials, some
- 4:55color gradients, some different kind of
- 4:57finishes to handles, for example, an
- 5:00intensity of kind of vertical patterns.
- 5:01[music] All of these elements that we've
- 5:03worked into these drawings now that make
- 5:05them look and feel realistic, but also
- 5:08kind of diagrammatic, which is also very
- 5:10kind of powerful and compelling for a
- 5:12[music] social media post. And you can
- 5:13see here that this is this drawing is
- 5:15composed of various layers of gradients,
- 5:17>> [music]
- 5:18>> um different kind of stone finishes, and
- 5:20shadow elements. So, now you have a
- 5:22structure to the drawing and a [music]
- 5:24detail that looks quite interesting and
- 5:26is representative. And so, the idea of
- 5:28this is that instead of having a plain
- 5:30[music] CAD line work, I can start
- 5:32building into the visual language of the
- 5:33drawing. And you can see here that now
- 5:35the drawing is beginning to feel more
- 5:36graphic, [music] not just a technical
- 5:38drawing. And this is where we can start
- 5:39thinking about branding. And the idea of
- 5:41using a consistent material and color
- 5:43palette is that [music] it's almost
- 5:44branding the drawings. They're
- 5:45consistent. And then you can start
- 5:47applying consistent fonts and consistent
- 5:49annotations and consistent
- 5:51>> [music]
- 5:51>> graphic elements that then match up
- 5:52across the drawings. And in that way,
- 5:54when you're creating a social media
- 5:56post, there is a consistency. [music]
- 5:57There is a brand to the drawings.
- 6:01Now, Rayon has a built-in library with
- 6:03thousands of blocks, tens of thousands,
- 6:05people, furniture, trees, [music]
- 6:07all designed to work cleanly in plans
- 6:09and sections. And so, I'm going to show
- 6:10you how we can start populating these
- 6:12drawings. So, [music] you can find the
- 6:13block library on the left hand side
- 6:15where you can look for libraries of
- 6:17blocks or individual blocks. In this
- 6:19case, we're going to scroll down and
- 6:20we're going to look for different kind
- 6:22of closets and storage spaces. We can
- 6:24then look for chairs. We can look for
- 6:26bathrooms. We can look for bedroom
- 6:28layouts. Pretty much anything that you
- 6:30wish for you can look for. You can also
- 6:32then look for individual items such as
- 6:34shoes, for example. If you wanted to
- 6:35pull some shoes into this
- 6:36>> [music]
- 6:37>> this cabinet into this storage unit, we
- 6:39can then find a pair of shoes. So, we
- 6:40can pull in this pair of sandals. And
- 6:43you'll see here that it also has an
- 6:44associated [music] side view, front
- 6:46view, and top view. Now, this is really
- 6:48powerful when you're working across
- 6:50elevation, section, plan, [music] and
- 6:51that you can work between the block
- 6:53views and that you can have then
- 6:55drawings that associate with each other,
- 6:56that correspond [music] with each other.
- 6:58So, in this case, you can select the
- 6:59pair of sandals on the right side and
- 7:01you can jump between side, front,
- 7:03[music] and top down views. And then you
- 7:04can double click into some of these
- 7:06blocks and start adjusting the style of
- 7:08these, too. So, you can then start
- 7:10editing and adjusting them as you
- 7:12please. Now, we can then pull in maybe
- 7:14[music] a child sitting and we can put
- 7:17them sat in this kind of cupboard space.
- 7:20And we can do a top down view of them.
- 7:22We can pull in some [music] more
- 7:23sandals. And then with a little bit more
- 7:24work, you can then pull in a kind of
- 7:26cushion. You can pull in a sink, for
- 7:28example, in this
- 7:29>> [music]
- 7:30>> in this instance. You can pull in
- 7:32lots of different elements to start
- 7:33bringing the drawing to life, to start
- 7:35populating it more. And then another
- 7:36type of population is annotation. So, we
- 7:39can then start pulling in some
- 7:40dimensions,
- 7:41>> [music]
- 7:41>> some leader tags. All of these elements
- 7:43that now going to start drawing your
- 7:45attention and the level of detail
- 7:46required. [music]
- 7:47Now, it's really important for a social
- 7:49media post in particular is that you
- 7:51don't overdo [music]
- 7:52the detail and annotation because people
- 7:53aren't going to really look at it. And
- 7:55so, you want to make sure you're drawing
- 7:56attention to the particular [music]
- 7:57elements that you want to kind of draw
- 7:59attention to.
- 8:00And so, in this case, we can then do
- 8:01maybe a leader.
- 8:03You can choose leader at the bottom here
- 8:04in the annotations [music] tools. Maybe
- 8:06do a leader here of
- 8:08um
- 8:09we can then call this
- 8:12a back and side panels [music] in light
- 8:13wood, for example. We can change then
- 8:15the text, the font, uh the end piece,
- 8:18and we can adjust [music] these
- 8:19annotations as we wish and and kind of
- 8:20make the text slightly bigger or smaller
- 8:23>> [music]
- 8:23>> and drop some of the text down. We can
- 8:25then add some more annotation in for
- 8:26maybe
- 8:27>> [music]
- 8:27>> some of the hooks, the the hook heights,
- 8:30and change these maybe to an orange. So,
- 8:33this is our kind of branded [music]
- 8:34elements that we can copy across all of
- 8:36our visuals and so that it's kind of
- 8:38consistent. We can then also [music] add
- 8:40some dimensions
- 8:42um at the bottom here and we can add
- 8:44those throughout. We once again don't
- 8:46want [music] those to be too intense.
- 8:48And with a bit of work here now, you can
- 8:49see how these drawings now have that
- 8:52level of detail required. It now has a
- 8:54hint of [music] orange that now makes
- 8:55the drawings pop a little bit more. And
- 8:57so, it adds a little bit more intrigue
- 8:58and detail to the drawings without
- 9:00overwhelming it. And so, I think if
- 9:02these were black, [music] for example,
- 9:03it would probably be too intense. And
- 9:04so, by adding an orange hint, which is
- 9:07obviously a little branding hint as
- 9:08well, it looks and feels a little bit
- 9:10more [music] clearer, more graphic, and
- 9:12more detailed. And so, you can see here
- 9:14across all of our drawings, we've added
- 9:16plenty [music] of annotation and details
- 9:18I think is required.
- 9:19And alternatively, if you want to find
- 9:21any annotations that aren't at the
- 9:22bottom here, you can also head [music]
- 9:24into the block library where you can
- 9:25look for title blocks and annotations
- 9:27and there's lots of different options to
- 9:28show grid lines, section marks, north
- 9:32arrows, etc., scale [music] bars that
- 9:34you can also pull into your social media
- 9:36posts. And then I think a finishing
- 9:37touch here is just to have a little
- 9:39[music] tag indicating what this is. So,
- 9:41this is a shoe shoe entry cabinet.
- 9:43>> [music]
- 9:43>> And then we can do it as a kind of
- 9:45section at the top. And we can do uh as
- 9:47a kind of floor plan at the top as well.
- 9:49So, we can [music] then have some
- 9:50annotations alongside, a little title
- 9:53for each drawing. When you add people,
- 9:54furniture, or context elements, the
- 9:56drawing starts to communicate [music]
- 9:58how the space is actually used. And if
- 9:59you want to push the visual elements a
- 10:01little bit further, you can use AI to
- 10:03amplify the drawings.
- 10:05For example, I can generate a quick
- 10:06axonometric [music] view directly from
- 10:08the plan. Now, instead of just showing
- 10:10the plan, I also have a spatial diagram
- 10:12that explains the [music] architecture,
- 10:13the the kind of three-dimensional
- 10:14quality of that space. I think this is
- 10:16particularly useful [music] for a social
- 10:18media post because it adds another layer
- 10:20of storytelling. And the key thing here
- 10:22is that it happens all inside the same
- 10:23workflow, no exporting to other tools.
- 10:26And the AI tool allows you to either
- 10:28import a file or add [music] a
- 10:29screenshot of a particular element. So,
- 10:31you can work live in the drawing. So, in
- 10:33this case, we're going to add a
- 10:34screenshot of this space here. We're
- 10:36going to then generate axonometric. And
- 10:39as you can see here, it's just created a
- 10:40three-dimensional [music] axonometric
- 10:41view of that elevation.
- 10:43And you can drop that and insert that
- 10:44into place into your presentation. But
- 10:46you can also rework into it. So, [music]
- 10:48we can click use select an image. We can
- 10:50then change that to maybe a clay model,
- 10:53for example.
- 10:54>> [music]
- 10:54>> And you can see here now that it'll
- 10:55generate a clay model example of that. I
- 10:57actually think the clay model is quite
- 10:58[music] powerful and intriguing
- 11:01um as an example of style in the
- 11:02drawing.
- 11:03You could also generate an image from
- 11:05that. So, we could generate maybe
- 11:06[music] some inspiration image of a kind
- 11:07of realistic render. In this case, it's
- 11:09just come out with something maybe
- 11:10slightly more artistic. But if we made
- 11:12this slightly more rendered, which we
- 11:14can re-prompt, [music]
- 11:15you could get potentially something like
- 11:17this. And then you could go even a step
- 11:19further [music] and get something like
- 11:20this. Which is really, really compelling
- 11:23and powerful. And this is a great
- 11:25additional asset to have [music]
- 11:26alongside your drawings, whether in a
- 11:28presentation, whether in a social media
- 11:30post, to make it slightly more engaging.
- 11:32And as a few examples across
- 11:34>> [music]
- 11:34>> these two drawing sets, you can see here
- 11:36that we've got lots of different
- 11:38examples that we've generated using the
- 11:39AI tool. Some [music] axonometric views,
- 11:42that diagram here for example, of this
- 11:44bathroom is really useful and powerful.
- 11:46I think it's actually quite engaging
- 11:47[music]
- 11:48um and quite interesting. Maybe with
- 11:50some subtle annotations, this would be a
- 11:52really great drawing.
- 11:53>> [music]
- 11:54>> We've then got some more kind of
- 11:55high-quality, hyperrealistic renders of
- 11:58these views, which also really help,
- 12:00[music]
- 12:01particularly in a social media post, to
- 12:02kind of grab someone's attention. Now,
- 12:04let's turn this into something that's
- 12:06ready to post online.
- 12:07>> [music]
- 12:07>> So, I'm going to explore two aspect
- 12:09ratios, one being a carousel, which is a
- 12:114x5 ratio, and then we're going to do a
- 12:14reel {slash} short, which is going to be
- 12:16a 9x16 ratio.
- 12:18>> [music]
- 12:18>> And you'll see here the kind of two
- 12:19examples of how you can then set up some
- 12:21pages, start pulling this information
- 12:23out of Rayon. For social media, the
- 12:25aspect ratios really matter. [music] And
- 12:27I think this is a really important step.
- 12:29And so, I have some examples here
- 12:31already set up. You can see the two
- 12:32aspect [music] ratios. And what I'm
- 12:34going to do is I'm basically just going
- 12:35to copy some of
- 12:38these elements over and start [music]
- 12:41building up some pages and examples of
- 12:42how we could we could start exporting
- 12:44some of these drawings. [music] So, as
- 12:46an example, I'm just going to take this
- 12:47kind of aspect ratio for the carousel
- 12:49and start copying it across. [music]
- 12:51And you can scale and adjust it as you
- 12:53wish um to kind of make the image fit
- 12:57within the page. [music]
- 12:58I'm just going to copy this element
- 12:59across. our layers tab, and we're going
- 13:02to click new and we're going to do page.
- 13:04[music]
- 13:04Now, this is really important now to
- 13:06position the page and crop it down
- 13:08[music] to match the aspect ratio that
- 13:11we've just brought in. So, in this case,
- 13:13you can change it to, for example, on
- 13:15the right-hand side, you can change it
- 13:16[music] to A3, A4, A1, for example. But
- 13:18we're just going to customize it and
- 13:19bring it down to our aspect ratio. We
- 13:22can then rename this slide as, for
- 13:25example, shoe cabinet carousel [music]
- 13:27one, for example. I think when you're
- 13:28creating social media content, it's
- 13:30really important to have a management
- 13:31system. [music] I personally think the
- 13:33management system is really key for when
- 13:35you're naming particular posts, so you
- 13:37make sure you know what the kind of
- 13:39carousel [music] number is, for example.
- 13:41So, now we've got six slides across our
- 13:44social media post, and we can position
- 13:46our AI images into [music] place.
- 13:49And then you can see on the left-hand
- 13:50side here, when you go to pages, you can
- 13:52then select [music] these elements, and
- 13:54you can see here now they're all kind of
- 13:56set up on the left-hand side. Now,
- 13:58what's really important here and we
- 13:59can't forget is that we need [music] to
- 14:00delete this kind of border that we
- 14:01created initially. So, I'm just going to
- 14:03delete those elements.
- 14:04>> [music]
- 14:05>> So, now when you view them, they're kind
- 14:07of viewed as a social media post. And
- 14:09you can see here now that as you kind of
- 14:11flick through them, you can then [music]
- 14:12export them as a PDF or PNG. Head into
- 14:15the top left corner, click and export,
- 14:18and then you can choose your range of
- 14:19pages [music] you want to export, or you
- 14:22could choose to export all of them. And
- 14:24now here, when you can see when they're
- 14:25exported, they [music] come out really
- 14:27clean. They look really professional.
- 14:29They look really the kind of line
- 14:30weights work really well.
- 14:32They're crisp drawings. And then you can
- 14:34see here with all of the the kind of
- 14:35variety of images that we have. We've
- 14:37got elevations, [music] sections, 3D
- 14:39views, then a render um
- 14:42generated through that AI system.
- 14:43[music] We now have a six-slide carousel
- 14:45that shows that variety and that level
- 14:47of interest. Now, to show you how you
- 14:49can then upscale that across many
- 14:51different social media posts, you can
- 14:53see here now that we've got [music] a
- 14:54vast range of different types of
- 14:56Instagram posts here.
- 14:58We've got different slides for
- 14:59bathrooms, [music]
- 15:00for walk-in wardrobes. And you can see
- 15:03how you can add that level of detail
- 15:05with maybe some
- 15:07>> [music]
- 15:07>> um kind of composite drawings, maybe
- 15:08some some photo montages, maybe some
- 15:11collages, to add some really interest.
- 15:13[music] And you can also add maybe a
- 15:15background, for example. In these cases,
- 15:16we have this kind of wallpaper
- 15:18background that adds a little bit of
- 15:20tone and [music] texture to the post and
- 15:22a bit more intrigue. And you can see
- 15:24here now that when you really [music]
- 15:25populate these drawings with lots of
- 15:27different blocks, with lots of different
- 15:28annotations and details, they come out
- 15:30as really nice and interesting social
- 15:32media posts. And so, I think the key
- 15:34takeaway here is simple. Architects and
- 15:37designers are already producing [music]
- 15:38valuable content every day. And so, the
- 15:40challenge isn't creating more work, it's
- 15:42presenting that work in a way that
- 15:44people want to engage in a really
- 15:46super-efficient [music]
- 15:47and time-effective workflow. With a few
- 15:49styling adjustments and a clear
- 15:50composition, technical drawings can
- 15:52become powerful [music] storytelling
- 15:54tools and really strong social media
- 15:56content. If you'd like to try this
- 15:58workflow for yourself, there's a link in
- 15:59the description [music] where you can
- 16:00create a free Rayon account and
- 16:02experiment with the files created in
- 16:04this tutorial. Thank you for watching
- 16:05today's video,
- 16:06>> [music]
- 16:06>> and I'll see you in the next one.
