How to Floor Plan & Furnish Your Layouts| Lesson 08 — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00now that we have a show in lesson 8
- 0:02we're going to explore the extensive
- 0:04rayon block texture and hatch library in
- 0:07order to add detail to our drawings is
- 0:09start illustrating the layouts these
- 0:11tools will allow us to add details
- 0:13materiality and context to our drawings
- 0:15whether in plan section and elevation
- 0:17using rayon blocks is a really easy and
- 0:19simple way just to drop items into your
- 0:21drawings to help you start visualizing
- 0:24and illustrating layouts and activity
- 0:27within the space by the end of this
- 0:28lesson you will know exactly where to
- 0:30find all of these items to begin
- 0:32populating your drawings how to import
- 0:35blocks how to create blocks how to edit
- 0:37blocks and also how to start adding
- 0:39hatches textures editing scaling
- 0:43transforming textures and hatches in
- 0:45order to start bringing your drawings to
- 0:47life and adding that required level of
- 0:53detail in the last lesson I gave you a
- 0:55bit of a teaser into blocks and the
- 0:57block library now in this lesson we
- 1:00going to go into much more detail and
- 1:01really start to fill out the drawings
- 1:04populate the drawings with blocks such
- 1:06as Vehicles Furniture people plants
- 1:10bathroom accessories bedroom layouts
- 1:14pretty much anything that you could
- 1:15think of rayon has it in a block form
- 1:18and I'm also going to show you how you
- 1:19can create your own blocks U by
- 1:21importing your own DWG for example and
- 1:23turning that into a block or actually um
- 1:26kind of elaborating further on my
- 1:27previous lesson And discussing how to
- 1:29create your own blocks by drawing them
- 1:31yourself um you can also edit blocks um
- 1:34you can pretty much do anything with the
- 1:36blocks which is really really useful um
- 1:39to be able to start populating the
- 1:40drawings so once again I'm going to head
- 1:41over to the left hand side and select
- 1:44the blocks Tab and as you can see you've
- 1:47got my blocks and Library so any blocks
- 1:50that you import into your uh canvas it
- 1:53will appear on my blocks and the library
- 1:56of blocks that are available in rayon
- 1:58are down here so as I've mentioned
- 2:00there's about 4,000 different blocks and
- 2:03you can see here you've got animals
- 2:05you've got accessories you've got
- 2:07bathroom accessories you've got hot tubs
- 2:10and jacuzzi you've got beds you've got
- 2:12bedroom layouts which is also a really
- 2:14interesting feature so you can actually
- 2:16import an entire bedroom layout as a
- 2:19block as you can see here you've got uh
- 2:23carpets chairs coffee tables dining room
- 2:26tables elevators gym equipment kitchen
- 2:29equipment lach
- 2:30La anything you can think of rayon has
- 2:34it it has 691 people uh and I really
- 2:37like the people in rayon and also the
- 2:39plants really add a nice touch to the
- 2:42drawings as well so as you can tell the
- 2:44block library is vast and it's a really
- 2:47great uh asset for you to really start
- 2:50populating your drawings and bringing
- 2:51them to life now we're going to start at
- 2:54this top right hand corner here where we
- 2:56have this potential kitchen area utility
- 2:58cupboard and toy toet so I'm going to
- 3:00head down into the uh kitchen layout so
- 3:04as you can see you can actually import
- 3:06an entire kitchen layout which is really
- 3:07useful and once again to expand on my
- 3:10point in the previous lesson every item
- 3:13that has a purple tag also has
- 3:15alternative views so they have plans
- 3:17sections and elevations for example this
- 3:20dishwasher here if you select the purple
- 3:22tag you can see that it's also got an
- 3:24elevation member a section member and a
- 3:27plan member so when you're working
- 3:29between
- 3:30section plan elevation it's really
- 3:33useful to know that you have these
- 3:34alternative views uh to your access and
- 3:37they're all linked together in the
- 3:39instance so for example you could import
- 3:41a kitchen layout like so a two row
- 3:46kitchen and we could drop that into
- 3:48place but this isn't quite the
- 3:49configuration that we're going for I
- 3:52think the kind of kitchen we want to
- 3:54explore is probably a back wall here of
- 3:58um maybe a sink and some kind of
- 4:02cupboard space also a back layer here of
- 4:05cupboard space so it's almost kind of
- 4:08built into the
- 4:10wall and then potentially an Island
- 4:12located in the middle so let's find some
- 4:16casew work so if we scroll down we do
- 4:19maybe a casew work M with door we're
- 4:22going to drag it and drop it into the
- 4:25model and as you can see It'll arve like
- 4:28so and I'm going to drop that into
- 4:31place which is nice and ideal so I drew
- 4:34this with a 600 mil deep uh which is a
- 4:38kind of typical depth of a uh cupboard
- 4:43which you can see it snaps in like
- 4:46so and just to check if you wanted to
- 4:48check any dimensions of your drawings um
- 4:50and I'll go into more detail about
- 4:52annotating your drawings but as a quick
- 4:53rule of thumb you can head down to the
- 4:55dimensions tool at the bottom select it
- 4:58select one
- 5:00item drag select the other item and as
- 5:03you can see here yeah we've got a 600
- 5:05mil um kind of surface now we can copy
- 5:09and paste this along by holding alt
- 5:11dragging it across holding shift so it
- 5:13copies in a straight line and we'll do
- 5:15the same down this side so holding o alt
- 5:18hovering over the corner rotating it 90°
- 5:21by holding
- 5:22shift and then we'll also drop these in
- 5:26here so now we have a bit of storage and
- 5:28we're creating this space in the middle
- 5:30here for a nice big breakfast bar or
- 5:34something so we're going to head down
- 5:36here now and we're going to try and find
- 5:38a sink maybe we'll drop in this double
- 5:43sink got a nice generous
- 5:45sink the covered space underneath and
- 5:48then now we're going to draw a breakfast
- 5:50bar so I'm going to draw this by using
- 5:52the rectangle
- 5:53Tool uh I'm going to make sure that it's
- 5:57roughly probably about 12 00
- 6:01from the casing 2.5 width and 1.5 height
- 6:07now I'm also going to add a fill to this
- 6:09because we're going to add some casing
- 6:11work so let's make that fill white and
- 6:14then we'll also make that probably a
- 6:17lighter gray and maybe do
- 6:210.1 like so then we could add a
- 6:23induction hob induction cooker
- 6:29and we'll probably have that fairly
- 6:31Central and then let's add some stalls
- 6:35we got some high
- 6:38stalls and maybe we could even just
- 6:41rotate them slightly to make it look
- 6:43like there's been some movement of some
- 6:46sort so it doesn't look so rigid and as
- 6:48you can see this uh fill is sat below
- 6:53the chairs and we ideally want it to be
- 6:56um above because you want to be able to
- 6:58see that the uh the stor are underneath
- 7:00the breakfast bar so what you can do is
- 7:01you can select the Stalls you can either
- 7:04then head over to the layers and drop
- 7:06them below the rectangle that I've drawn
- 7:09like so or you can right click and you
- 7:12can do arrange and descend backwards and
- 7:15then you can CLI clicking send backwards
- 7:16until it is behind the layer now the
- 7:19kitchen is coming together um and this
- 7:23probably block we could potentially
- 7:26change because it's got quite a solid
- 7:28fill around the The Edge which doesn't
- 7:30quite match the graphics so far of the
- 7:32drawing so we could select the block we
- 7:34could have it to the right hand side as
- 7:35you can see it's got Styles assigned to
- 7:38the block we could edit the style border
- 7:40and fill to maybe a gray that matches
- 7:47the breakfast bar we can then change the
- 7:50black lines to the same gray and as you
- 7:53can see that now changes the color which
- 7:57just Blends in a little bit better now
- 7:59I'm going to do the same for the utility
- 8:00room I'm going to drop these in rotate
- 8:03them holding shift dropping them into
- 8:05the corner but what you'll see is that
- 8:07in this instance we have two corner
- 8:09pieces which as you can tell these
- 8:12square units are just going to look a
- 8:15bit weird being sat in the corner it's
- 8:17not going to quite work so this is where
- 8:19you can start editing the blocks and
- 8:21start working into them and making them
- 8:23fit your layouts and an important thing
- 8:26to note at this point before we start
- 8:27editing this block is that when you have
- 8:30a block and you have multiple instances
- 8:32of that block in your canvas when you
- 8:34start editing the block it'll also edit
- 8:37all the other instances in your model so
- 8:39you want to make sure that you before
- 8:41you start editing a block make sure you
- 8:43duplicate it create a new essentially
- 8:46creating a new type of that block so
- 8:49that you're not going to change all of
- 8:51the other items that you have so what
- 8:52I'm going to do is I'm going to click my
- 8:54block I'm going to head down to the
- 8:56bottom and I'm going to unblock it so
- 8:58this item is is no longer a block so
- 9:00what I'm going to do is drop this item
- 9:02down into this corner and I want to make
- 9:04this corner piece essentially to follow
- 9:07the language of this room so we've got a
- 9:09bit of an awkward kink in this location
- 9:11so what I'm going to do is highlight
- 9:12over uh the item double click into it
- 9:16and you can see that you get these kind
- 9:17of transform points you get these kind
- 9:20of points that you can start pushing and
- 9:22pulling and drag in and what I'm going
- 9:25to do is I'm going to select one of the
- 9:27points I'm going to drag it into the
- 9:29corner
- 9:30and I'm going to do the same with this
- 9:31one make sure that it's parallel and
- 9:34what you'll see is because this is a
- 9:36shape it will have this point where you
- 9:38can kind of create a curve but I'm going
- 9:40to drag this in so it aligns so that we
- 9:43then have a straight
- 9:44line and then as you can see I now have
- 9:47an item that has been edited to my
- 9:51layouts and then you can select that
- 9:53item and all of the components you can
- 9:56right click and you can select block so
- 9:59now you created a block out of that item
- 10:01that you've edited additionally to
- 10:03editing blocks in the rayon library and
- 10:06also creating your own blocks such as
- 10:08the example that I showed in the
- 10:10previous lesson you can also import your
- 10:12own blocks so I'm going to very quickly
- 10:14show you how you can do that so if you
- 10:15head over to the top left corner click
- 10:18the three um lines uh to the menu tab
- 10:22come down to import and we'll do DWG now
- 10:25I have an item here called Lamp which is
- 10:28going to be a lamp that I'm going into
- 10:30import and once again very similarly
- 10:32early on in the um other modules you'll
- 10:35have to select the scales so I believe
- 10:37that's about 1 M we then select that we
- 10:41click
- 10:43import you'll then get the option of
- 10:45picking the insertion point select into
- 10:48the canvas and we have the DWG imported
- 10:52and this DWG is automatically recognized
- 10:55as a block and that block here is in the
- 10:58library so you can drag that in you can
- 11:01then start populating your drawing with
- 11:03the same lamp now when you want to start
- 11:05finding something more specific in the
- 11:07block Library you can head over to the
- 11:08top left corner type the search Tab and
- 11:12we could do maybe
- 11:15sofa uh we'll do all these different
- 11:18kinds of sofas a lot lot to choose from
- 11:21sometimes it's a bit overwhelming like
- 11:23so which will drop
- 11:28in and we could potentially create a
- 11:30kind of space here that is for a living
- 11:33area we maybe want to mirror that so
- 11:35we're going to come down to the mirror
- 11:38Tab and we're going to draw the axis
- 11:41that we want the item to be mirrored
- 11:43from so we now have that there we could
- 11:46potentially have a
- 11:49carpet and we'll rotate that once again
- 11:53make sure that we're snapping to the
- 11:54middle we can maybe add a coffee table
- 12:00make sure that's
- 12:02Central and we're now starting to have a
- 12:04bit of a living room area and maybe a TV
- 12:06we could drop along this wall here type
- 12:09in
- 12:10TV and potentially a wallmounted TV
- 12:14would be pretty nice so we can drop that
- 12:18in now moving into the dining room we
- 12:20could add a dining room table some of
- 12:23these blocks are super elaborate as you
- 12:25can see if you drop that in look at all
- 12:27the detail that comes with that you've
- 12:28got a car pit you've got the flowers and
- 12:31everything it's pretty impressive saves
- 12:33you a lot of time that's for sure when
- 12:34you when you're creating your drawings
- 12:36and I'm going to do a
- 12:38similar process of kind of pretending
- 12:42that there's a bit of movement so maybe
- 12:44rotate this and then once again you want
- 12:46to make sure that the table is on top of
- 12:48the layer so we want to drag that up
- 12:51above the crosshatch side
- 12:54seats so that it's above we're probably
- 12:58needing this up there's probably a bit
- 12:59too much activity going on here now this
- 13:01is a long process of populating your
- 13:04drawings adding people in plan uh you've
- 13:08got lots of different types of people
- 13:10people doing activities playing tennis
- 13:12office person walking people uh doing
- 13:15all kinds of different sports you got
- 13:18loads of different options you've also
- 13:20got Vehicles which I think are also a
- 13:23nice one uh to add and with some time
- 13:27working into the floor plans you can
- 13:29arrive at something like this where we
- 13:32have enough information to show a level
- 13:35of activity and the use of the space but
- 13:37also not overwhelming the drawing with
- 13:40too much too many blocks because as you
- 13:42can imagine when you have so many
- 13:44options of blocks available it's very
- 13:46easy to absolutely go crazy in your
- 13:48floor plans for me I like to find a nice
- 13:50balance I don't like to overwhelm my
- 13:52plans too much because then it just
- 13:54becomes quite distracting when you're
- 13:55looking at the floor plan but as you can
- 13:57see here we have some clear
- 13:59zones identified and that's followed
- 14:02through from our initial zoning you have
- 14:05this arrival point with the stair we now
- 14:07have a kind of bookshelf here which is a
- 14:09bit of a feature of this Atrium space we
- 14:12have a nice toilet with a maybe cloak
- 14:14cupboard uh we have a kitchen with a
- 14:17utility cupboard a utility room out the
- 14:19back we now got a dining room um with a
- 14:23fireplace in the middle so we got some
- 14:25logs in there uh We've now got a living
- 14:27room with a TV uh with these views over
- 14:30the landscape with some outdoor seating
- 14:32outdoor dining we have some cars in the
- 14:34garage so we've made sure to put a
- 14:36little sports car in there this looks
- 14:37like a Ferrari and when we go to the
- 14:40Upper Floor we have the master bedroom
- 14:43with a nice kind of seating area uh a
- 14:45guy walking to show some activity a
- 14:47walk-in wardrobe dresser type space a
- 14:50nice walk-in shower uh so it's kind a
- 14:53bit more of a wet room uh we've got this
- 14:55seating area with someone sat having a
- 14:58read of from the bookshelf um we've got
- 15:00this nice Atrium space with glass
- 15:02ballustrade in uh we've got this smaller
- 15:05bedroom with a single bed and a shared
- 15:07bathroom and a bedroom at the end here
- 15:11so you can see that when you're adding
- 15:13this level of detail to your floor plans
- 15:15it really brings the drawings to life
- 15:17and it shows how these spaces are going
- 15:19to be occupied now let's switch our
- 15:21attention to Elevation and section now
- 15:24when you start working in section and
- 15:25elevation the best way is to come back
- 15:27up to your flooor plan and start
- 15:29identifying the objects that you want to
- 15:30show in section two so for example some
- 15:33of these items such as the plant you can
- 15:36come up you can select it change the
- 15:40definition to the other members and you
- 15:43can start copying down items to be able
- 15:45to begin populating your drawings for
- 15:47example when we look at section AA this
- 15:50would be a significant feature of this
- 15:52section this slicing through this
- 15:53reading space we can select these items
- 15:56like so we can copy them we can come
- 15:59down to the section
- 16:01AA we can paste them and then we can now
- 16:04turn these into the elevation views drop
- 16:07that in we can select this man reading
- 16:11we can turn that
- 16:14into this man here in fact I'm going to
- 16:18use a different person so we'll probably
- 16:21do maybe person
- 16:25reading um we want maybe
- 16:30this person looks like he's holding a
- 16:32book and we'll drag him in instead and
- 16:36we can do the same with the bookshelf
- 16:39and we can start adding some books and
- 16:42you can also import maybe some of your
- 16:44own artwor and turn it into a group or
- 16:47block for example you can drop maybe
- 16:51this group in here you could add a
- 16:52little light as a little reading light
- 16:55and you can really add some detail to
- 16:57your sections and elevations
- 16:59working into them using the blocks and
- 17:01items adding people adding activity and
- 17:04achieving something like so where you
- 17:05can add your own groups with plenty of
- 17:08detail in elevation you've got plants
- 17:10with their own Shadows which you can
- 17:12then head over on the right hand side
- 17:14and change uh the opacity of those
- 17:18Shadows by coming down here you've got
- 17:21people walking around outside we've got
- 17:23lights dropping down from the ceiling
- 17:25and the same for this elevation where
- 17:26you can show the bedrooms you begin to
- 17:29get an idea of kind of the character of
- 17:31the spaces uh the atmospheres by showing
- 17:34these windows and the kind of layouts
- 17:36the internal layouts these double height
- 17:39spaces you got the plant and you got the
- 17:40bookshelf uh and yeah you just this you
- 17:43don't have to go over over the top crazy
- 17:46with all of the information and details
- 17:48I like to just add a subtle amount of
- 17:50layouts as I've discussed just to give
- 17:53it an indication of activity use of
- 17:56space now the second part of this lesson
- 17:58is going to be switching our Focus away
- 18:00from blocks and now towards zones and
- 18:04hatches in lesson six you would have
- 18:06seen me discussing some detail me using
- 18:08zones for kind of space planning and
- 18:10breaking up the massing now I'm going to
- 18:12show you how to use zones when we come
- 18:14to a more finished floor plan like this
- 18:17one and how we can use a Zone to
- 18:19essentially begin to add a hatch um and
- 18:22a automatic tag which will give you a
- 18:25room name and a square meter so the same
- 18:28principles applies we're going to head
- 18:30down to uh the element tabs tools at the
- 18:33bottom so once again youve got the wall
- 18:35opening Zone divider and the zone so
- 18:38we've discussed zones before but this is
- 18:40going to be a case of showing you how to
- 18:42drop a Zone into an enclosed space in
- 18:46your floor plans so as you can see when
- 18:48you select the Zone tool it is picking
- 18:51up on enclosed space so any space that
- 18:54is being defined by walls so what I'm
- 18:56going to do is I'm going to select
- 18:59into that zone into that space and I'm
- 19:03going to head over to the right hand
- 19:04side and we're going to change the fill
- 19:07to a hatch so as I discussed earlier in
- 19:10the course you have four options here
- 19:13you either have a solid which you can do
- 19:15a solid color like red for example and
- 19:17you can change the
- 19:19opacity like so you can do a texture
- 19:23where you can choose from kind of
- 19:25realistic textures that kind of give a a
- 19:28more rendered appeal um for example or
- 19:33you could use a hatch which is what I'm
- 19:35going to use in this case so I'm going
- 19:37to use a kind of a wood floor finish uh
- 19:42so with that I'm going to use this
- 19:45Herring bone floor finish and because
- 19:48this is already coming out a very strong
- 19:51feature to the drawing I'm going to
- 19:54change the stroke to quite a light gray
- 19:58and I'm going to drop the opacity down
- 19:59to maybe
- 20:0240% so we have something a lot softer
- 20:05like so but as you can see once again
- 20:08the layer is on top so we want it to be
- 20:11in the background so I'm going to head
- 20:12over to my layer as you can see I've
- 20:14created a new layer called zones and I'm
- 20:17just going to drop that down to the back
- 20:19and this can be pretty much the back
- 20:22layer above the site plan and topography
- 20:25and a really useful feature of hatches
- 20:27is that when you select your hatch on
- 20:29the right hand side in the fill tab you
- 20:31can head down to the transform and you
- 20:33can begin changing the scale of that
- 20:37item so for example you could scale it
- 20:39right up so youve got some kind of much
- 20:41larger tiles you could scale that right
- 20:44down
- 20:46to really small tiles I'm going to keep
- 20:49it at scale number one but it's just a
- 20:52really useful way to demonstrate how you
- 20:54could potentially start editing the
- 20:56hatches by rotating them change in the
- 20:58offset
- 20:59position and it's a really useful way to
- 21:02start working into the drawings and if
- 21:04you feel like the hatches that are shown
- 21:07in the default hatch styles on the right
- 21:09hand side if you want to try and find
- 21:12some more hatches there is a library of
- 21:14100 plus hatches over on this left hand
- 21:17side if we head over to Styles come over
- 21:19to libraries and you can see you've got
- 21:21all these different types of hatches
- 21:23that you can import into your model for
- 21:25example if you wanted to import
- 21:27different concrete textures you've got
- 21:30all of these different textures
- 21:31available you can change the view as
- 21:34cards which I find to be a little bit
- 21:35easier to identify the textures you then
- 21:38click three dots click import and that
- 21:41will drop
- 21:42into your
- 21:45texture library and so you have hundreds
- 21:47of textures and hatches to choose from
- 21:50now you can see that we have a hatch and
- 21:53a name applied with the square meter so
- 21:56we can then go in and change this as the
- 22:02living
- 22:04dining kitchen I don't like to go once
- 22:07again to over the top so this would be
- 22:09as really as simple as it would get um
- 22:12when adding hatches in floor plan I
- 22:14don't like going over the top height I
- 22:16like my drawings being quite basic black
- 22:18and white to make sure that the
- 22:20information that's being shown is um
- 22:22being shown correctly and that isn't
- 22:24kind of being overwhelmed by hatches and
- 22:26other information like furniture Etc um
- 22:30but as you can see it just adds that
- 22:32extra graphic touch and extra layer of
- 22:35detail and information to the drawing
- 22:37and also starts to add a bit of
- 22:39hierarchy so you can start to see the
- 22:41furniture pop a little bit more as you
- 22:43can see there solid white with the uh
- 22:46the kind of the floor tiling in the
- 22:48background and you can see it just
- 22:50starts to add a bit of hierarchy and a
- 22:52bit of a pop to the drawings now in some
- 22:54instances where you want to add a Zone
- 22:57but you don't have any en closed space
- 22:59like this for example uh because we
- 23:01created our own group here for this door
- 23:05what you can do is you can use the Zone
- 23:07divider tool so you can now select one
- 23:11point select the other to essentially
- 23:13close that zone to close that space so
- 23:17these walls will be essentially room
- 23:19bounding and we've now created that zone
- 23:21divider you can then now drop that zone
- 23:24into that space and you can do the same
- 23:26process you could potentially do a more
- 23:28of a I don't know a concrete type
- 23:32texture uh or an oblique type texture
- 23:36with and maybe red for example and you
- 23:38can start playing around with the
- 23:39different zones and hatches that you
- 23:41want to apply in plan now this is one
- 23:43type of hatch that I want to add but in
- 23:45order to add extra layers and extra
- 23:47information to the drawings I'm also
- 23:49going to add shadows in both plan and
- 23:53section and elevation and then I'm also
- 23:55going to add some more details in
- 23:57Windows for example to show reflection
- 23:59in elevation and section and just
- 24:02bringing the drawings to life a little
- 24:04bit more adding some depth to the
- 24:05drawings Shadows is a big one for me I
- 24:08absolutely love adding Shadows to
- 24:09drawings and it really just adds that
- 24:11depth to the drawings um which obviously
- 24:14are very
- 24:16two-dimensional and so the three and so
- 24:18the Shadows just add that
- 24:20three-dimensionality to the drawings now
- 24:23I'm going to go to the top create a new
- 24:25layer this is important that Shadows are
- 24:27now on top
- 24:30and I'm going to use the poly line tool
- 24:33and I'm going to start essentially
- 24:35picking a direction of Sun so for
- 24:38example if we have sun coming in this
- 24:40direction here um kind of from the
- 24:43Northeast down to the Southwest we can
- 24:46then begin to
- 24:48Define some Shadow so this is quite a
- 24:50sketchy process um but it's essentially
- 24:53to show some kind of depth and then what
- 24:55we're going to do is we're going to
- 24:58change that fill to a solid black but
- 25:01then we're going to drop it down to
- 25:03maybe
- 25:0560% and we're not going to have a stroke
- 25:07because the shadow won't have a stroke
- 25:09and we'll do the same
- 25:10here we'll change that to Black drop it
- 25:13to
- 25:1460% remove the stroke and I'm actually
- 25:17going to create a style out of this
- 25:19because we can begin to populate the
- 25:22drawings with these shadows and make
- 25:24sure that we have the consistent opacity
- 25:25throughout so I'm going to save the
- 25:27style as
- 25:32Shadows now instantly by looking at this
- 25:36it's already adding some depth to the
- 25:37drawing and we could do the same around
- 25:40these kind of details where this is a
- 25:42kind of roof that is slightly
- 25:48protruding and it doesn't have to be
- 25:50super accurate this is purely up to you
- 25:54and how much detail you add to this and
- 25:57how ACC accely you draw it I like to
- 26:00keep it quite sketchy and by simply just
- 26:02adding a bit of Shadow the drawing is
- 26:04already popping a bit more and it's
- 26:05becoming a bit of a graphic tool for the
- 26:07drawing to and you can also start
- 26:09playing around the different tones of
- 26:10Shadows to make uh there a bit more of a
- 26:13hierarchy to show the different levels
- 26:15and the different volumes and also to
- 26:17this roof I'm going to add maybe a
- 26:20tile to show a bit of texture and then
- 26:23we're going to change that stroke to a
- 26:25super light gray maybe we'll just drop
- 26:27the opacity down to maybe
- 26:2920% so you've got a really nice kind of
- 26:31subtle and remove the outline you got a
- 26:34subtle hatch and then at this point we
- 26:36can also indicate the slope by
- 26:40adding a maybe subtle Shadow and now the
- 26:43roof plan floor plans are starting to
- 26:46come to life you can see the shadow adds
- 26:50much more depth and quality to the
- 26:53drawing just making it pop significantly
- 26:56more and now let's move into these
- 26:58sections and elevations where I think
- 26:59this really does help the drawings so to
- 27:02describe some depth and some maybe caner
- 27:04levers and overhangs and where these
- 27:07windows are kind of maybe offsetted
- 27:10let's now just start drawing in some
- 27:12Shadows so for example if we indicate
- 27:14that we have a bit of an overhang here
- 27:16that is creating a shadow we'll give
- 27:19that a shadow like so and maybe for
- 27:21these Shadows we can make them a bit
- 27:23softer they seem a touch too heavy so we
- 27:26can maybe drop them down to 30% and
- 27:28create
- 27:29a and create a new
- 27:32type called Shadows may
- 27:35be
- 27:3730% we could then maybe add some depth
- 27:40to the windows to show a kind of reveal
- 27:43and maybe these could be darker and now
- 27:45we have a bit of depth to the window and
- 27:47we can copy that across and also working
- 27:50some rectangles into the internal spaces
- 27:52and we can do the same on this
- 27:56one once again it be quite
- 28:03sketchy like so take some time working
- 28:07through it and in elevation you can do
- 28:09the same once again adding some depth to
- 28:12the windows indicating some areas of
- 28:16these Shadows that are being generated
- 28:18by the landscape and
- 28:20the
- 28:23various kind of overlapping elements we
- 28:25could potentially add
- 28:28a darker Edge to this overhang
- 28:32here indicating an
- 28:35overhang and there by adding some simple
- 28:38Shadow to the
- 28:40drawings we have some depth which is
- 28:42great for a 2d drawing something that
- 28:45originally looked quite flat the Shadows
- 28:48all of a sudden just add a bit more
- 28:51depth and layering to the drawing now
- 28:54the final things that we're going to add
- 28:55now is some textures to these elevations
- 28:57simp simly how we've done hatches on the
- 29:01roof here and on the ground floor here
- 29:03we're going to add some textures to this
- 29:06elevation and then also add some details
- 29:08to this window to show some materiality
- 29:11show some reflection and once more
- 29:14adding that depth to the drawing so the
- 29:16hatch that I'm going to use for this
- 29:17elevation is going to be a stone hatch
- 29:18so if I draw my rectangle so once I've
- 29:21drawn my Square I'm going to come over
- 29:23to the fill I'm going to come over to
- 29:24the hatch I'm going to find a stone
- 29:29hatch that is going to add this one here
- 29:35see what others they've got yeah let's
- 29:36add this Stone
- 29:37hatch which I think is perfect for this
- 29:40scenario so this is now starting to tie
- 29:42in the initial brief of responding to
- 29:45the local vernacular of cormal and the
- 29:47cormal stone so we're going to use this
- 29:49hatch here we're going to turn the
- 29:51stroke off and once again it's going to
- 29:53be a case of working
- 29:55through the colors to make it softer
- 29:59maybe drop that down to
- 30:0280% and that is much better we can also
- 30:05scale this hatch up and
- 30:08down by coming over to the transform tab
- 30:11at the bottom we could then scale this
- 30:12maybe to two to get more maybe that's
- 30:16slightly too big maybe we'll do
- 30:191.5 to get some kind of big chunks of
- 30:22stone and then we can copy this
- 30:25across scaling it down as you see as you
- 30:28scale the item the hatch does not scale
- 30:32which is really useful so as you're
- 30:34copying this item throughout your
- 30:37elevation it will remain the
- 30:41same and in some of these instances
- 30:43where you have the window and the FI is
- 30:48going
- 30:49Beyond you can draw a
- 30:52rectangle and drop it between those
- 30:55details
- 30:58and dropping it in between like
- 31:00so so then the window's poking through
- 31:03now to Define these two volumes and two
- 31:07masses that are sat above one another in
- 31:10this elevation as I've discussed very
- 31:13early on using the
- 31:14references I thought a really
- 31:16interesting way of defining two zones is
- 31:18be able to have two contrasting
- 31:20languages two contrasting materiality so
- 31:23as you can see here we've got stone at
- 31:25the kind of base of the ele elevation
- 31:29which responds nicely to the landscaping
- 31:33and the integration into the landscaping
- 31:35and it has that kind of natural response
- 31:38to the ground and Landscape that we're
- 31:39working into whereas on this upper Mass
- 31:42I'm going to have a contrasting material
- 31:45um such as Timber maybe vertical Timber
- 31:47slats so I'm going to once again draw a
- 31:49shape using the polyline I'm going to
- 31:52trace and I'm going to look at using a
- 31:55hatch fill that is going to be vertical
- 31:58and in fact I'm going to change this to
- 32:00have a bit more of a
- 32:02battern appearance not
- 32:05that yeah that's much better and then on
- 32:08the roof we can show a thicker battern
- 32:10to show a kind of a contrasting language
- 32:13so for the pitched roof potentially we
- 32:15do something thicker like
- 32:19so the opacity
- 32:2235% and therefore you've got these three
- 32:24different languages that show these tiar
- 32:27and the different masses uh through the
- 32:30contrasting materiality now the final
- 32:33thing that I'm going to add to these
- 32:35elevations is a reflection in the
- 32:38windows now if you look at if you
- 32:39normally look at a window it's not white
- 32:41as we're drawing it here it's not clear
- 32:44extremely clear it's always got a kind
- 32:47of gray tone to it a slightly darker
- 32:49tone because of the reflections of the
- 32:52sun um and you can't normally see
- 32:55directly into the space so what I'm
- 32:57going to do is I'm going to draw using
- 32:59the rectangle tool I'm just going to
- 33:01make the glass
- 33:03pane gray and I'm going to add a bit of
- 33:06a reflection by drawing maybe a kind of
- 33:10rectangle like so maybe make that white
- 33:14maybe drop that
- 33:1750% like so maybe we could change the
- 33:19opacity slightly of this but the idea is
- 33:22to show that materiality of the glass
- 33:23and the realistic tone and condition of
- 33:27the flection and what we can do is we
- 33:29can select these
- 33:31components right click once again we can
- 33:33group them and call it glass and we can
- 33:37also populate these across the
- 33:42drawing adjusting the aspect ratio for
- 33:44these larger
- 33:48Windows right
- 33:50[Music]
- 33:51so some of them we might have to do by
- 33:54hand by actually going into the group on
- 33:55grouping them until we arrive at
- 33:57something like this which as you can see
- 34:00just adds the extra level of detail
- 34:02reality to the
- 34:05drawing and also hierarchy once again it
- 34:08just makes the windows pop much more an
- 34:12insection you can see that works really
- 34:15well so as you can see using the hatch
- 34:18Tools in both floor plan in roof plan in
- 34:22elevation in section you can really
- 34:24start bringing your drawings to life
- 34:26adding depth Shadow is a major one for
- 34:28me it's starting to show some
- 34:30materiality and the language that we're
- 34:32trying to communicate with the
- 34:34Contemporary Barn look um and the
- 34:36windows are starting to pop which is
- 34:38starting to look good and the windows
- 34:40are now helping the drawings pop and so
- 34:43now they're ready to begin to start
- 34:45being annotated
