How to Fix Your Entire Life in 1 Day (Jim Rohn Seminar) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Let me just quickly give you a list of
- 0:01four emotions that can change your life
- 0:03in one day.
- 0:06Emotions are powerful.
- 0:09Sometimes it doesn't take much to alter
- 0:11your whole life direction.
- 0:18Okay, here they are. Number one,
- 0:21disgust.
- 0:23Powerful emotion. Disgust says, "I have
- 0:29had it."
- 0:32See, that could be the day. The day you
- 0:34can say, "I've had it."
- 0:37And whether you've had it with something
- 0:38small or something major, the day you
- 0:41can say, "I've had it," may not be the
- 0:43day it ends, but the day it begins.
- 0:47That's what I said when that little girl
- 0:49scout left my door when I'm 25. I give
- 0:52her the big lie. She leaves. I say, "I
- 0:55don't want to live like this any more.
- 1:01I've had it with lying and being broke."
- 1:06Powerful day.
- 1:09The man's finally had it with
- 1:12mediocrity.
- 1:14He's had it with being a loser.
- 1:17He's finally had it with those awful
- 1:19sick feelings inside, knowing his wife
- 1:21is at the grocery store looking at two
- 1:23cans of beans. One marked 37 cents, one
- 1:26mark 39 cents. And the guy sick inside
- 1:28knows his wife's going to buy the 37
- 1:30cent can. And she doesn't even like the
- 1:32brand.
- 1:34Do you know why she's going to buy the
- 1:3537 cent can?
- 1:38To save two sin.
- 1:43The guy sick inside finally says, "I've
- 1:46had it." Being on my knees in the dust
- 1:49looking for pennies. We're not living
- 1:51like this [music] any
- 1:54moment.
- 1:59Could be the day that turns [music] your
- 2:00life around. The day you can say, "I've
- 2:03had it."
- 2:08He walks into his closet and rips
- 2:10[music] everything in it to shreds and
- 2:13says, "I've worn this embarrassing stuff
- 2:16for the last time.
- 2:19And not only will I never wear it again,
- 2:22no one else
- 2:24will ever wear it again."
- 2:27Commit an act that says,
- 2:30"I've
- 2:32had it."
- 2:33Powerful. Here's the next one. decision
- 2:39and decision-m is powerful
- 2:42and it's emotional. That's those knots
- 2:44in the pit of your stomach, right?
- 2:46Waking up in the middle of the night in
- 2:48a cold sweat trying to decide.
- 2:52We sometimes call it inner civil war.
- 2:57What shall I do?
- 3:00Well, for progress, you must decide.
- 3:05The best advice I can give you came from
- 3:06a wealthy friend of mine who said, "If
- 3:09it's easy, do it easy. If it's hard, do
- 3:12it hard. Just get it done."
- 3:19If you went home tonight and in the next
- 3:21few days cleaned up a whole list of
- 3:23decisions, that might furnish enough
- 3:25inspiration for the next 10 years.
- 3:29I found this out many times after you've
- 3:31decided. Getting on with it is easier
- 3:33than deciding. Sometimes decision is the
- 3:35toughest part.
- 3:38Here's the next emotion. Desire. Wanting
- 3:41to bad enough.
- 3:44And I don't know how to tell you to want
- 3:46to. That's something you've got to come
- 3:47up with.
- 3:49There's two things I know about desire.
- 3:51Number one, it comes from inside, not
- 3:53outside. You don't send off for it.
- 3:59Number two, I know desire can be
- 4:02triggered
- 4:04by something. Who knows what it might
- 4:06be? Sometimes desire waits and sleeps
- 4:09for something to happen.
- 4:12Maybe it's a book, maybe it's a song,
- 4:15maybe it's a sermon, maybe it's a
- 4:16lecture, a seminar, maybe it's the
- 4:19conversation of a friend, a happening,
- 4:22an event.
- 4:24Who knows? The best I can advice I can
- 4:27give you is what I give my staff. It
- 4:29goes [music] like this. Welcome every
- 4:32human experience.
- 4:34You never know which one is going to
- 4:36turn [music] it all on.
- 4:39Even the bad experiences.
- 4:42Sometimes from the bitterest experience
- 4:44comes the greatest awakening.
- 4:47So let down the barriers. Take down the
- 4:49walls. The same wall that keeps out
- 4:51disappointment keeps out happiness.
- 4:56Let life touch you. Don't let it kill
- 4:58you, but let it touch you.
- 5:03Here's the last one. This one's
- 5:05powerful. Resolve.
- 5:08Resolve says, "I will." Two of the most
- 5:11powerful words in the language. I will.
- 5:16Benjamin Draeli once said, "Nothing can
- 5:18resist a human will that will stake even
- 5:22its existence [music] on the extent of
- 5:23its purpose."
- 5:26Shortly put, "I'll do it or die."
- 5:29See, that's powerful. That could be the
- 5:31day that turns your life around. The
- 5:33world has a strange way of stepping
- 5:35aside when somebody says, "I'll do it or
- 5:37die."
- 5:40The man says, "I will climb the
- 5:43mountain. They've told me it's too high.
- 5:45It's too far. It's too rocky. It's too
- 5:47difficult. It's never been done before.
- 5:49But it's my mountain. I will climb it.
- 5:51Pretty soon you'll see me waving from
- 5:53the top or dead on the side cuz I ain't
- 5:56coming back. The best definition I ever
- 5:59got from the word [music] resolve came
- 6:01from a little junior high girl in Foster
- 6:03City, California, up north. I'm talking
- 6:06to the junior high kids one day. I love
- 6:09to ask kids definitions. They come up
- 6:10with beauties.
- 6:13I got to the word resolve and I asked,
- 6:15"Who can tell me what resolve means?"
- 6:18And I got several hands and they were
- 6:20all pretty good, but the last one was
- 6:23the best. Little girl about three rows
- 6:26back held up her hand. She said, "Mr.
- 6:27Ran, Mr. Ron, I think I know what
- 6:29resolve means." I said, "Darling, what
- 6:31do you think it means?" She said, "I
- 6:33think it means
- 6:35promising yourself you will never give
- 6:37up."
- 6:39I said that's it.
- 6:43Webster, stand aside. That is the
- 6:47definition.
- 6:49Promise yourself you will never give up.
- 6:53I asked the kids, "How long should the a
- 6:55baby try to learn how to walk?"
- 6:59How long? How long would you give your
- 7:00average baby before you shut him off?
- 7:02How long?
- 7:05See, any mother in the world would say,
- 7:07"You're crazy. My baby's going to keep
- 7:09trying until it learns how to walk. What
- 7:11a magic formula.
- 7:17Now, let me show you what triggers all
- 7:19emotions into activity that brings
- 7:21results. And results is the name of the
- 7:24game. Here it is.
- 7:27Action.
- 7:28Finally, you must do something about how
- 7:31you feel.
- 7:36Jesus the master teacher said, "Don't
- 7:38just be listeners, be doers." The world
- 7:42admires the doers.
- 7:48Another Bible phrase says, "Faith
- 7:50without action is useless."
- 7:57Some people these days are big on
- 7:58affirmations. You got to be very careful
- 7:59of affirmations. There's a thin line
- 8:02between faith and folly.
- 8:05The best clue I can give you on
- 8:06affirmations is this. Affirmation
- 8:08without discipline is the beginning of
- 8:11delusion.
- 8:13And there's nothing worse than delusion.
- 8:17The guy keeps walking west looking for
- 8:18the sunrise. I mean, delusion is bad.
- 8:26However,
- 8:28affirmation with discipline can bring
- 8:30the most spectacular
- 8:32results.
- 8:36When the Jewish people surveyed the
- 8:38Holocaust at the end of World War II,
- 8:40for them it was a holocaust.
- 8:4339
- 8:44million people [music] lost their lives
- 8:46World War II. 19 million were Russian,
- 8:51but compared to the population, it was
- 8:53not quite the Holocaust visited on the
- 8:55Jewish people.
- 8:576 and 12 million Jews [music] perished
- 8:59World War II. 6 and 12 million. That was
- 9:03a Holocaust after Hitler's final
- 9:05solution and the Nazi jack boots and
- 9:09Aishman and Borman had done their evil
- 9:11task. Six and 1/2 million.
- 9:16When the Jewish people counted the dead,
- 9:18surveyed the Holocaust,
- 9:21and mourned the loss, those that
- 9:24survived together said,
- 9:28"Never again."
- 9:32That was the affirmation. [music]
- 9:34Never again will we take our families
- 9:38silently walk to the box cars and let
- 9:40them ship us through the night to
- 9:42Ashvitz.
- 9:44Never.
- 9:48Well, that's good to make an
- 9:49affirmation, but the next question is,
- 9:51what are you going to do to back up the
- 9:53affirmation?
- 9:55They said, "Well, number one, we'll
- 9:58build a nation."
- 10:03Then they said, "We'll build an army."
- 10:06Wow. And a navy.
- 10:09My and an air force.
- 10:15And we'll buy some bombs. My
- 10:20bullets. Wow.
- 10:24We'll spend a big portion of the
- 10:26national treasure.
- 10:29We'll even spend some of Israel's finest
- 10:31lives. We mean it. Never again. That's
- 10:35called backing up affirmation with
- 10:38discipline.
- 10:42Does it work? Well, yes. They'd been
- 10:44tested four times in war on their
- 10:47affirmation in the last 25 years. Four
- 10:50times major.
- 10:53The next to the last war was called the
- 10:55six day war.
- 10:58as if to say, "Didn't we tell you ever?"
- 11:07Make sure you always have a game plan to
- 11:10match your wishes. Otherwise, they will
- 11:13always be wishes.
- 11:22The day that turns your life around.
- 11:26Let me give you four questions to take
- 11:27home when we're finished. These are
- 11:29called questions to ponder.
- 11:32And this wraps it up.
- 11:39Gosh, you've been a great audience
- 11:40tonight. How fantastic for so many
- 11:42people here. It's been unbelievable.
- 11:47I've really enjoyed it. I could talk all
- 11:49night, but
- 11:52>> I'm staying here, right? So, I got a
- 11:54maid, right? and you got some uh ways to
- 11:56go.
- 11:57Okay, here's the questions I want you to
- 12:00take home in closing. First question is
- 12:02one of the major questions of the world.
- 12:04Why?
- 12:06Why should you try? Why read that many
- 12:08books? Why go that far? Why earn that
- 12:11much? Why share that much? Why learn all
- 12:13that? Why get up that early? Why put
- 12:16yourself through that much? Why try for
- 12:18all that? Good question. Why?
- 12:21One of the best answers to why is the
- 12:23second question
- 12:25why not?
- 12:29What else are you going to do with your
- 12:30life? Why not see how many books you can
- 12:33read, how far you can go, how much you
- 12:35can earn, how many friends you can make,
- 12:37how much personality you can develop,
- 12:39influence you can have, how many things
- 12:40you can accomplish, how far you can go
- 12:42and what you can see. Why not?
- 12:46You got to stay here till you go.
- 12:50Why not?
- 12:52The third question is why not you?
- 12:58Why not you? Some people have done the
- 13:00most incredible things with limited
- 13:01start.
- 13:04Why not you? Some people have done so
- 13:07well they get to go. They get to see it
- 13:08all. They get to do it. They get to be
- 13:10there.
- 13:12They get to have it. They get to enjoy
- 13:13it. Why not you?
- 13:18Why not you watching the morning mist
- 13:20rise over the mountains of Scotland?
- 13:25Exploring the mysteries of Spain,
- 13:26soaking up history in London. Why not
- 13:29you? You got to take a stroll through
- 13:32the palace of Versailles.
- 13:35Why not you?
- 13:38You got to have lunch in one of those
- 13:39neat little sidewalk cafes in Paris.
- 13:43I mean, Denny's is okay, but you got to
- 13:45try Paris.
- 13:48Someday you got to gaze directly [music]
- 13:51at the Mona Lisa.
- 13:55I can show you where to find the most
- 13:57exquisite seashells in Miami
- 14:00and the Bahamas. I know where they are.
- 14:04Why not you? You got to shop on Fifth
- 14:07Avenue in New York. You got to stay at
- 14:11the Waldorf Estoria.
- 14:15Have dinner at Lucha's sliced roast
- 14:18goose on a bed of apple [music] strut.
- 14:23Why not you? You got to drink in an
- 14:25Arizona sunset.
- 14:28You got to see the world. You got to
- 14:30read the books. You've got to do the
- 14:32enterprises. You've got to be involved
- 14:34in commerce and love and travel and
- 14:37experiences. You got to do it all. Why
- 14:40not you? You've got to know the results
- 14:42that come from splendid discipline.
- 14:44There's nothing like a view from the
- 14:46top.
- 14:50And the last question is, why not now?
- 14:55Don't postpone your [music] better
- 14:57future any longer.
- 15:00Get [music] at it tomorrow with new
- 15:04vigor. Get you some new books. Ask some
- 15:07new questions. Set some new goals. Get
- 15:10you a new journal.
- 15:12Start your projects book. Get a game
- 15:14plan going. Do some more reading. Start
- 15:17to make changes. Have conversations.
- 15:20Make contact. And do it now.
- 15:24And if you will, I have a feeling one of
- 15:27these days we'll be hearing your story.
- 15:30You'll make us a phone call, write us a
- 15:32letter, get in touch with us, and let us
- 15:34know what's happening to you. I want to
- 15:36thank you for being here. My final
- 15:38comment would be ask for God's help,
- 15:42which may sound a little strange coming
- 15:43from a strictly commercial company. We
- 15:45are not a religious order, but if you
- 15:47would allow me a personal word, that
- 15:48would be it. I think humans are unique,
- 15:50but we could all use a little help.
- 15:53But of course, you got to do your part.
- 15:55That's what we've talked about mainly
- 15:56tonight. Do your part, and I think God
- 15:57will do his part. It's a two-way street.
- 16:01And we do play a part. There's a story
- 16:03about the man who took a rock pile in
- 16:05two years, turned it into a fabulous
- 16:07garden. People came from everywhere to
- 16:09see it. One day, a guy came by, saw the
- 16:11garden, thought it was fabulous, but he
- 16:13wanted to make sure the gardener didn't
- 16:14take all the credit.
- 16:16So, to get his point across, he meets
- 16:18the gardener, shakes his hand, and says,
- 16:19"Mr. Gardener, remember you and the good
- 16:22Lord together have this beautiful garden
- 16:24here." And the gardener said, "Hey, I
- 16:27understand that. I know what you mean."
- 16:30He said, 'If it wasn't for the sunshine
- 16:32and the rain and the miracle of the seed
- 16:36and the soil and the seasons, there
- 16:37would be no garden for sure.
- 16:40But he said, 'You know, you should have
- 16:41seen this place a couple of years ago
- 16:42when God had it all by himself.
- 16:44[laughter]
- 16:46And I think that's true. We do play a
- 16:48part. I'm glad I was not an angel.
- 16:52I think humans have a lot more fun.
- 16:55You've made it a splendid evening, and I
- 16:56want to wish you the very best. Look
- 16:59forward to seeing you on the weekend.
- 17:01Make sure we get the little white slip
- 17:02of paper and let's be in touch. I wish
- 17:05you the best. Good night. God bless.
- 17:10Thank you. [applause]
- 17:12Thank you. Appreciate it. Thank you.
