  1. 0:00all right welcome back aaron with
  2. 0:02superior singing method and i want to
  3. 0:04teach you how to find your head voice a
  4. 0:06lot of people
  5. 0:07never
  6. 0:09find their head voice and i know that
  7. 0:10sounds crazy but that might actually be
  8. 0:13you people think that they do but they
  9. 0:15don't necessarily haven't found their
  10. 0:16head voice and the reason this is so
  11. 0:17important is because on those higher
  12. 0:19notes if we find our head voice we could
  13. 0:22get
  14. 0:23seeing higher notes with more power with
  15. 0:26less strain which means we can sing for
  16. 0:28longer and sound better and all the good
  17. 0:30things that we want right so
  18. 0:32i want to teach you how to find your
  19. 0:33head voice and i'm also going to give
  20. 0:34you a great exercise on how to
  21. 0:36strengthen the head voice as well okay
  22. 0:38so we're going to go on a little journey
  23. 0:40together let's get started
  24. 0:42so when
  25. 0:44what most people do that can't find
  26. 0:46their head voice you've heard me say
  27. 0:48this kind of idea several times because
  28. 0:49this is the most common one of the most
  29. 0:51common pitfalls of singers is they try
  30. 0:54to sing those higher notes with a chest
  31. 0:56voice um by the by the way the chest
  32. 0:58voice is what i'm speaking in right now
  33. 1:00right this is my chest voice
  34. 1:03and here said this is fine this is a
  35. 1:05nice
  36. 1:06resonant kind of kind of full you know
  37. 1:08for this lower but when we get to the
  38. 1:09higher notes um we want to sing in the
  39. 1:11chest voice when you sing when you try
  40. 1:13to sing the higher notes with your chest
  41. 1:15voice it's that idea of pulling up or
  42. 1:17pushing or forcing and i don't talk i've
  43. 1:20probably never talked about this but
  44. 1:22just like falsetto which we're going to
  45. 1:24talk a little bit about today just like
  46. 1:26falsetto you don't want to sing in
  47. 1:28falsetto but falsetto is a nice little
  48. 1:30color here and there right you flipping
  49. 1:32you know a lot of artists will flip into
  50. 1:33falsetto quickly and come back and it's
  51. 1:35just a nice little color actually
  52. 1:37pulling up your chest voice can be a
  53. 1:39nice little color too like
  54. 1:42a lot of punk rock singers if you listen
  55. 1:43like machine gun kelly or something
  56. 1:46his whole style is based on pulling his
  57. 1:48chest voice up so it's like be my bloody
  58. 1:52valentine
  59. 1:56it's cool i i like it i i like the sound
  60. 1:59of it but um
  61. 2:01if you don't do it right and probably
  62. 2:03maybe even if you do do it right you
  63. 2:05will
  64. 2:07kill your voice in a very short period
  65. 2:09of time but not or not be able to sing
  66. 2:11very long in one stretch of period
  67. 2:13because it's incredibly straining on
  68. 2:15your voice when you're up there okay so
  69. 2:18we want to learn how to if you want to
  70. 2:19do that color cool like you can do that
  71. 2:21let's also learn how to sing in that
  72. 2:23nice resonant head voice so
  73. 2:26uh so the head voice is it's up here
  74. 2:29it's up here this is chess voice this is
  75. 2:33head voice and then falsetto this is
  76. 2:35head voice
  77. 2:38that's flipping into falsetto okay so
  78. 2:39these are kind of kind of the different
  79. 2:41ranges the
  80. 2:42head voice there's going to be a lighter
  81. 2:44quality to it
  82. 2:46it's a lighter quality than
  83. 2:49it's a little more weight right so um
  84. 2:53what happens with the head voice is it
  85. 2:55helps you hit those higher notes but
  86. 2:57it's nice to be able to blend the head
  87. 2:59voice in the chest voice which is the
  88. 3:00mixed voice that's going to be a
  89. 3:01different video but that's how you get a
  90. 3:03little more weight and a little more
  91. 3:05like power up there in your head voice
  92. 3:07so
  93. 3:09another fun fact about the head voice is
  94. 3:11guys actually tend to have a harder time
  95. 3:13finding their head voice than
  96. 3:15girls and women and i know there's a lot
  97. 3:17of gender fluidity and i'm okay with all
  98. 3:19that so it's going to vary from person
  99. 3:21to person regardless of how you identify
  100. 3:24but just if we can speak generally right
  101. 3:26now guys have a slightly harder time
  102. 3:28because
  103. 3:29guys tend to have a broader chest voice
  104. 3:31and a smaller head voice and women
  105. 3:33generally speaking have a broader head
  106. 3:36voice and like a shorter smaller chest
  107. 3:39voice so it's a little harder for guys
  108. 3:40to find their head voice for that for
  109. 3:42that reason so i'm going to give you a
  110. 3:43couple of exercises
  111. 3:44no matter how you identify to find your
  112. 3:47head voice and one of them starts with
  113. 3:49uh i don't know if you used to watch
  114. 3:50those old bugs bunny cartoons you ever
  115. 3:52seen that but um bugs bunny sings in
  116. 3:54kind of a pharyngeal range it's like
  117. 3:55yeah what's up doc yeah what's up doc up
  118. 3:58there and kind of like that ferran girl
  119. 4:00up there that's up that's up in your
  120. 4:02head voice hey what's up doc up there
  121. 4:04and that's a that's kind of with a
  122. 4:06little the ng sound that we talk of the
  123. 4:08n g
  124. 4:10the n g sound i talk a lot about because
  125. 4:13it yeah it's what call it's what what's
  126. 4:15called like connection like
  127. 4:16vocal cold or vocal fold connection
  128. 4:20that ng helps you get that so
  129. 4:23it's not falsetto right it's not
  130. 4:26that light airy sound but it's um and
  131. 4:29here's the exercise with the ng and kind
  132. 4:31of once you find that
  133. 4:33it's going to be that ngo
  134. 4:42[Music]
  135. 4:45and then also um just another way to
  136. 4:47find your head voice is like an owl
  137. 4:52right that's up there in the head voice
  138. 4:54or like when you're a kid when you made
  139. 4:56those ghost sounds
  140. 4:57[Music]
  141. 5:01actually down low there was the chest
  142. 5:03voice but so
  143. 5:06chest voice
  144. 5:10voices up there so chest voice is easy
  145. 5:12to develop you probably have a very
  146. 5:13strong chest voice again what i'm
  147. 5:15speaking in now is my chest voice so we
  148. 5:17most of us have a pretty well developed
  149. 5:18chest voice but we want to be able to
  150. 5:20work that head voice so that we can sing
  151. 5:22those higher notes with power with
  152. 5:23strength and that that are very
  153. 5:25connected um and
  154. 5:27so
  155. 5:28there are transitions and breaks between
  156. 5:30the chest and the head voice we'll talk
  157. 5:31about that in another video but this
  158. 5:33actual exercise that
  159. 5:39is one that will help blend some of
  160. 5:41those transitions to avoid some of those
  161. 5:43cracks and breaks listen smash the like
  162. 5:45button hit the notification bell um you
