  1. 0:00Adia back over here
  2. 0:02so 're right here I'm here with Adia
  3. 0:05she's our 5-year-old and she's gonna
  4. 0:07help me show you how we dress for skiing
  5. 0:11now the mountain environment and being
  6. 0:13outside on skis is a very Dynamic
  7. 0:16environment not all days are the same
  8. 0:18but we really only have two different
  9. 0:20ways to dress one is our cold weather
  10. 0:22outfit and then the other is our normal
  11. 0:24winter weather climate outfit so let's
  12. 0:29begin we go to go skiing and Addie is
  13. 0:31going to help me show you how we get
  14. 0:32dressed for a regular day of skiing so
  15. 0:34this is normal winter temperatures
  16. 0:36anywhere from plus 2° C to like - 8 - 10
  17. 0:41right now
  18. 0:43today okay the yeah you you explain what
  19. 0:47do you need this long underwear first of
  20. 0:49all long underwear and then yep what
  21. 0:52kind of feet what kind of socks do you
  22. 0:53have on your feet wool we got those wool
  23. 0:55socks on again yeah and then you're
  24. 0:56going to put on a nice fleece pant over
  25. 0:59top of your long underwear so now you're
  26. 1:00going to put your fleece on and then it
  27. 1:03is warmer today so you're going to
  28. 1:04you're going to be cooking you're going
  29. 1:05to need to go
  30. 1:07[Music]
  31. 1:10outside thing about all these layers is
  32. 1:12if it's a really nice sunny plus 3 four
  33. 1:155 degree day and she's wearing her
  34. 1:17jacket she might not want this fleece on
  35. 1:19on a hot sunny day when it's above zero
  36. 1:21she might just want her ski jacket on so
  37. 1:23she's wearing some nice pink snow pants
  38. 1:25from uh North Face they're insulated
  39. 1:27these were the Freedom bib pants I
  40. 1:29believe and then what we do when we get
  41. 1:31dressed inside we uh put the snow pants
  42. 1:33on and then we do the boots nexts we
  43. 1:34don't want to wrestle and put our feet
  44. 1:36in the boots when we wearing all of our
  45. 1:37jackets and the balac clava up here
  46. 1:39because it's just so much and then add's
  47. 1:41snow pants are getting too small for her
  48. 1:43we do need new snow pants and a ski
  49. 1:45jacket probably she needs to get a
  50. 1:46little bit bigger stuff we usually size
  51. 1:49up and try to get a little bit of extra
  52. 1:50bagginess and room we'll size up more in
  53. 1:53a snow pant than we do in a jacket so
  54. 1:55because it's 0° we don't need tow
  55. 1:57warmers in there today even if it was
  56. 1:58minus 3 or 4 we wouldn't be using those
  57. 2:01disposable tow warmers oh you want to do
  58. 2:03this first or do you want to do your
  59. 2:04bellava first this is one of the key
  60. 2:06moves with doing a face mask is you want
  61. 2:08to make sure the chin hooks first and
  62. 2:10then you kind of go quickly and fast and
  63. 2:12you make sure there's no hair in the
  64. 2:13mouth or the eyes I I've been doing that
  65. 2:15for a few kids for many years and then
  66. 2:18we got the goggles up and when we put a
  67. 2:19helmet on yeah it was raining outside
  68. 2:21when you went out there okay chin up B
  69. 2:24and now we make sure that the the face
  70. 2:26mask the Bell clava is all wrapped into
  71. 2:28the jacket now these mitts the stone
  72. 2:31mins these I recommend for toddlers
  73. 2:33they're good they're great they're the
  74. 2:34warmest most waterproof mint we've ever
  75. 2:36found they're a Canadian company called
  76. 2:37Stones I'll put an affiliate link below
  77. 2:40uh if you're interested in getting a
  78. 2:41really good pair of mitts and uh these
  79. 2:43are a bit wet cuz you were outside
  80. 2:44playing yesterday and you didn't dry
  81. 2:45them okay hestra is an alternative glove
  82. 2:48brand that I also recommend Luca and
  83. 2:50August love their hras Courtney and I
  84. 2:52are loving ours and they're leather and
  85. 2:54they're incredible they're really good
  86. 2:55quality the other face mask goggle combo
  87. 2:58that none of our kids really wear but
  88. 3:00it's pretty amazing uh this is from Anon
  89. 3:02a goggle company and they make face
  90. 3:04masks that have magnets that actually
  91. 3:06just clip right there get some air and
  92. 3:08then when you want to have your skin
  93. 3:09completely covered uh it's it's a magnet
  94. 3:12which is a pretty good feature so I do
  95. 3:14recommend if you can get your hands on a
  96. 3:15pair of these yeah you can try it do you
  97. 3:16want to try it yeah do you want to like
  98. 3:18take that off and try okay ready you do
  99. 3:21it ninja mask how do you do it show me
  100. 3:24show me how you make the
  101. 3:27magnet if you have any questions about
  102. 3:29how to dress your kids for skiing leave
  103. 3:31a comment below I'll do my best to
  104. 3:33answer it I have some links on our
  105. 3:35website to some of the gear and
  106. 3:36equipment we were using last year
  107. 3:38there's some blog posts there as well on
  108. 3:40how to choose the best ski boots or
  109. 3:41goggles and helmets and ski jackets and
  110. 3:43snow pants for kids hand-me
  111. 3:46down buying stuff used or using
  112. 3:49hand-me-downs is a great way to make it
  113. 3:50a little bit more affordable ad you what
  114. 3:52are you wearing and as a Bas layer right
  115. 3:54now what do you have on long underwear
  116. 3:56you've got long underwear on okay can
  117. 3:58you put these socks on what kind of
  118. 3:59socks are these wool they're wool yeah
  119. 4:02they keep your feet warmer than cotton
  120. 4:03socks especially if they get a little
  121. 4:05bit wet and sweatier now Addie it's a
  122. 4:07cold day out there today so you've got
  123. 4:08long underwear bottoms long underwear
  124. 4:10Top This is a non-cotton long underwear
  125. 4:12so this is like a polyester and then
  126. 4:14here we're going to throw on some fleece
  127. 4:16pants because it's really cold out
  128. 4:22there on a normal winter that that and
  129. 4:25that yeah we'll do it all so come here
  130. 4:26so now add's got her mid layer on so she
  131. 4:29got a fleece pant and a fleece here now
  132. 4:31this is the thin fleece not all fleeces
  133. 4:33are created equal here she's got a real
  134. 4:35thicker one and now Addy it's a cold day
  135. 4:37out there we're going to wear this big
  136. 4:39puppy we're going to do this quickly so
  137. 4:41you don't overheat nice and warm and now
  138. 4:43hop into this big snowsuit so this is a
  139. 4:45cold weather dress so she's wearing Luca
  140. 4:49and August hand-me-down snowsuit right
  141. 4:51now it's actually quite big for her but
  142. 4:52we do this on purpose we pick a bigger
  143. 4:54outfit a bigger snowsuit on the cold day
  144. 4:57so that she's actually not going to get
  145. 4:59your you're going to get a bit hot in
  146. 5:00here okay we won't be too long so
  147. 5:02because she's in a bigger snowsuit she
  148. 5:04can fit that fleece and the puffy jacket
  149. 5:06there we'll do what we always do we put
  150. 5:08on a nice bellava face mask bellava face
  151. 5:11mask has a hole in it for the face and
  152. 5:13it'll cover up her chin and can cover up
  153. 5:16her mouth and nose as well if she pulls
  154. 5:17it up you're going to put it on yeah you
  155. 5:19good at getting the hair out this is a
  156. 5:21this is an important move if you get
  157. 5:23hair all over their face or in their
  158. 5:25mouth they're not going to be as happy
  159. 5:26and because it's a really cold day we're
  160. 5:28actually doubling up and now we put on a
  161. 5:30a fleece over top and comes down and
  162. 5:32then it's just another big neck one that
  163. 5:35can be there I I know let's do this
  164. 5:37quick and then we do goggles up on the
  165. 5:39helmet boom and now last but not least
  166. 5:42we do use tow warmers on their toes so
  167. 5:45when it's colder out around that - 8 -
  168. 5:4799 - 10 Mark tow warmers is something we
  169. 5:49use don't buy these for $5 a piece at
  170. 5:52the ski hill you can buy them online in
  171. 5:5510 packs or 40 packs for a lot less we
  172. 5:57usually wear similar mitts and so we put
  173. 6:00those Ms on look how big those are and
  174. 6:02then we got to get you out of there so
  175. 6:03you don't melt and of course we put the
  176. 6:06ski boots on and we usually do that
  177. 6:08before we do all the top stuff I'm a dad
  178. 6:10who documents our family's Outdoor
  179. 6:12Adventures and I hope you found this
  180. 6:14video useful helpful if you're trying to
