Full transcript
- 0:00Hi everyone. Today we're going to look
- 0:01at how to draw Mill Workshop drawings.
- 0:04Let's walk through a project together to
- 0:05show you how to speed up the process
- 0:07using Rayon design templates and styles.
- 0:10You can grab this template for free
- 0:12through the link in our description. And
- 0:14if you're new to Rayon, you can also
- 0:15find a 10-minute introduction video now
- 0:18below. Let's get started and go to a
- 0:21browser and type in rayon.design design
- 0:24where you can a free account or simply
- 0:27sign
- 0:28in. After signing in from the Rayon
- 0:31dashboard, you can choose one of the
- 0:32templates that are pre-made by the Rayon
- 0:35team or we can just go and create a new
- 0:38model, which we will do in our
- 0:43case. Perfect. And before we start
- 0:45drawing, I'm going to go to the settings
- 0:47on the right hand side and change the
- 0:49length units to millimeters. As you're
- 0:52going to be working with details, this
- 0:54is what I'm going for. Next, we're going
- 0:58to go back to the
- 0:59dashboard and you can go to templates
- 1:02and choose uh a template for mill works.
- 1:04Go and select this kitchen cab
- 1:12detail. Great. Here is a kitchen
- 1:14mailwork template and it already
- 1:16includes great hatches, cabinetry,
- 1:18faucets, and other wonderful objects.
- 1:20Let's start by selecting it
- 1:22all, right click and copy as export. And
- 1:26then let's head back to our new model.
- 1:29We just right click and paste in place.
- 1:33And you can shift Z to automatically
- 1:35zoom in. So this going to be the base
- 1:38for base template for our kitchen
- 1:41drawings. We're going to start by plan,
- 1:44elevation, and then a section. Let's
- 1:46start
- 1:48with with this kitchen countertop. And
- 1:51we're going to also include it elevation
- 1:54right away here. So, kind of give us a
- 1:56guide. And also, we want to
- 1:59extend the countertop.
- 2:02And I'm going to place it just next to
- 2:04it here. Also, I'm going to go to the
- 2:07bottom bar and go to guide cuz I want to
- 2:10create the guide. And I'm going to
- 2:12change it to a vertical. Let's create a
- 2:14guideline here. And also here. It'll be
- 2:17easier to draw. And we can add more
- 2:19guidelines as we go. Now we can just
- 2:21zoom in. Double click to edit
- 2:24the the block. We can move this away.
- 2:27Click on it. Select the lines. And you
- 2:30just drag it to this corner. Oh, here.
- 2:36Fix this. No. Now it's perfectly
- 2:38aligned. Grab this edge and just drag it
- 2:41for it to fit. Perfect. Now I'm done. As
- 2:45simple as that. And we can also create
- 2:48another guide just in the middle
- 2:53here. As what I'm going to do now put a
- 2:56rectangle here which will be
- 2:59representation of this cupboard.
- 3:02I can just go
- 3:05and exempute
- 3:11this. That's that. We can maybe
- 3:15even pull it out a little bit. And also
- 3:18what we're going to do is we're going to
- 3:21create a handle which we could see from
- 3:24the top. 20
- 3:29mm. Yep. Perfect. And you can even go
- 3:33and offset this inwards like maybe 30
- 3:38mm. Perfect. Yes. Just like that. Just
- 3:41to create
- 3:42some space on the
- 3:45edges. Perfect. And to be honest, we can
- 3:47even extend it a little
- 3:52bit. Yes. Typically copper would be
- 3:55around say 60 by by 65
- 3:59um cm. It's
- 4:03perfect. Going to go and actually create
- 4:05a new style. Take this and make it a
- 4:09bit lighter. Almost too light. This is
- 4:13perfect. And just going to go and save
- 4:15style as garage line one. Excellent.
- 4:21Sounds like we're good. And also what
- 4:23I'm going to do is as we're going to
- 4:24have a cupboard on above the the
- 4:26counterc I'm also going to draw a
- 4:28rectangle with a dashed line. You
- 4:31typically what you draw in dashed line
- 4:32it indicates that it is uh something
- 4:36above above the countertop in this
- 4:41case. Typically coverage would be like
- 4:44360 mm from the wall. And what we going
- 4:48to do is let's go and find under these
- 4:50four dots if we can find a dashed
- 4:55line. Here it is. But what we're going
- 4:58to do is we're going to maybe edit this
- 4:59dash line and give it lighter
- 5:04tone. Oops. This is not going to look
- 5:06like it's
- 5:08dashed. And it's quick stroke. And under
- 5:13the dashed, we can even increase the
- 5:16spacing between the lines. Yeah, this
- 5:20looks
- 5:23perfect. So now we have cupboards above.
- 5:26And what we're going to do next, we're
- 5:27going to add a wall. Let's go to wall
- 5:30tool and let's change it to two. It's
- 5:34going to be a 200 mm thick wall. And we
- 5:37can make it dark.
- 5:40And the the stroke would be just simply
- 5:43black. And let's go and save it. Let's
- 5:47edit style because we're going to rename
- 5:48it uh wall style
- 5:52one. And we're going to make sure
- 5:55it's controlled from the bottom upwards.
- 5:59Yeah, perfect. So, what I'm going to do
- 6:01is
- 6:06create a wall oblique
- 6:09size. Yeah, that's looking good. And
- 6:11also because the wall continues, I'm
- 6:13going to add brake lines from the
- 6:17template here. You just drag one, hold
- 6:20alt, and drag it out. And basically
- 6:22brake
- 6:24line is
- 6:26uh like a zigzag or jackard line that
- 6:28cuts through a continuous
- 6:32object. And in our case, it's just going
- 6:35through the wall showing that it's
- 6:37continuous. And we're just going to flip
- 6:39it
- 6:42vertically and vertically and then as
- 6:44well
- 6:45horizontally. Yeah. Great. Also, let's
- 6:50go and include a plan of a
- 6:52window. In our template, there's only a
- 6:55section and an elevation. So, what we
- 6:57can do is go to blocks, go to the
- 7:00library, and type
- 7:05window. Block family. In block families,
- 7:08usually you can find elevation sections
- 7:10and plan windows. And we're just going
- 7:12to take one in
- 7:16here. Okay. What I want to do is first
- 7:18double check so it's kind of fits
- 7:20perfectly in the same size. So we have a
- 7:22consistent across the bottom and we can
- 7:24just take it and drag it in here and it
- 7:28automatically beautifully snaps into
- 7:31into place. Also we can add a line here
- 7:35that represents that the wall is
- 7:39continuous. And we can add give it a
- 7:42style and we just give it like a light.
- 7:46gray tone. Yep, it's it's looking great.
- 7:50Let me go and add the final details.
- 7:52Let's start with these section cuts cuz
- 7:54we're going to be adding section. Let me
- 7:58just copy it here and turn
- 8:01it right because we will cut it just
- 8:05over the sink and we're going to be
- 8:08looking this direction as the arrows
- 8:10indicate.
- 8:12Okay. Twice
- 8:15it just like this. Yeah, this is
- 8:18perfect. We can even take this
- 8:21and move it up a little bit. There's a
- 8:26space. Take these and copy another one
- 8:30and right click to unblock it. And we'll
- 8:33double click on A and change it to B.
- 8:37So, it's going to be section BB. That
- 8:40would be running through
- 8:43the cupboard itself. This
- 8:47time, let's add
- 8:50it. It's called out. And we can
- 8:55place can place label right under the
- 8:58kitchen. We can double click on it and
- 9:01rename it. We can call it
- 9:03flat. Yeah, this is perfect. Okay, let's
- 9:08move on with the next one. And we're
- 9:09going to start by drawing a foundation
- 9:13slab. Uh we're going to go to
- 9:17rectangle. And we're going to draw it
- 9:19again the same roughly the same size as
- 9:22we did
- 9:24before. Perfect. And let's just drag it
- 9:27here in the
- 9:30middle. And right we can go to style and
- 9:34let's add it. one of the styles and this
- 9:37copy rate is perfect. And also we can
- 9:41just take these brake lines and we drag
- 9:45them up and copy them to indicate again
- 9:47once again the the floor is continuous.
- 9:54Next, we will add a splashback if you're
- 9:57in the UK or a backsplash if you're in
- 10:00the
- 10:01US. It's just
- 10:03this kind of protection from the water
- 10:07and and cooking in general,
- 10:10right? We will make it. Yeah, this is
- 10:15good. Now, it's actually a good bit time
- 10:17to place the window. If we click
- 10:20CC, you just stick the window and place
- 10:23it perfectly here as it nicely snaps.
- 10:26And for next part, I want to draw the a
- 10:30wall and some cupboards on the
- 10:34top. What I'm going to do is
- 10:38create some
- 10:40dimensions. Then I'm going to go to
- 10:42annotation line.
- 10:44The standard clearance between
- 10:46countertop and upper cabinet is roughly
- 10:49around 500 mm, but we will give it 700
- 10:53as an extra clearance for our imaginary
- 10:56uh stove
- 11:00top. And we're going to do another one
- 11:03which
- 11:04is or
- 11:07print. Yeah, perfect. Let's select the
- 11:11rectangle tool. And now with these
- 11:12dimension guidelines in place, we can
- 11:15draw the painted wall and upper
- 11:19cabinetries. Yeah,
- 11:25perfect. Now we bring these for now. We
- 11:29don't need them
- 11:29[Music]
- 11:32anymore. Also, we can add a lime here.
- 11:36Create a division between these two
- 11:37coverates.
- 11:39We can go ahead and maybe add some hatch
- 11:41to the splashback. We'll go replace all
- 11:45and try to
- 11:48find this. Perfect. We're going to copy
- 11:52it and paste it in place. And then we're
- 11:55going to add it another hatch which is
- 11:58the stony
- 12:01Toronto. Perfect. It's looking
- 12:03beautiful. Go and add the hatch this one
- 12:06as well. And we would need something
- 12:09like a paint like a a wooden wooden
- 12:12paint. It's looking great. Beautiful.
- 12:15And next we're going to add a wooden
- 12:18texture here. Wood. Yeah. Perfect. And
- 12:22let's copy these and paste them again as
- 12:27copy in place. So to add like a more of
- 12:30a natural wooden texture, wooden hatch.
- 12:34Yes. Fantastic. Oops.
- 12:37We can press the go
- 12:39to template and also add these
- 12:45[Music]
- 12:47sockets here in the
- 12:51corner
- 12:53double. Yeah, I think it's looking
- 12:57great. Before we animate this slab, let
- 13:01me add
- 13:03um these doors swing in the
- 13:06indicators which are typically
- 13:10uh represented as these angled lines
- 13:13extending from the the hinge side of the
- 13:18cabinet. And we can also draw them here
- 13:21on the top here. Perfect. And let's do
- 13:25that
- 13:26again here and here. Perfect. So we know
- 13:30as you can see here as well send these
- 13:32little the hinges on the top and on the
- 13:35right hand side let's also create more
- 13:39detailing into
- 13:40the slab and what we're going to do is
- 13:43going to create rectangle tool to create
- 13:46a sort of a floor
- 13:50finish. Yeah, perfect.
- 13:55And we're going to go and
- 13:58add floor tiles. Perfect. We can
- 14:02actually go and CC copy it. And we can
- 14:07do the same with this. We can extend it
- 14:09all the way to the to the end. And we're
- 14:13going to give it a
- 14:15beton kind of concrete texture, which
- 14:19would
- 14:19be no, not this one for saving.
- 14:22too harsh. Let's give it some kind of
- 14:25like a
- 14:26lighter concrete
- 14:28concrete. Yes,
- 14:31perfect. We'll place also
- 14:35[Music]
- 14:37layer for these and let's put them into
- 14:40default. I'll also go to a default layer
- 14:43and we can actually change this to the
- 14:47this kind of harsher concrete or we
- 14:50would call it a screed. It's quite
- 14:52typical to have like a concrete screen
- 14:54running above the the concrete slab but
- 14:58where you would put those
- 15:02maybe floor heating. But yeah, this is
- 15:06looking great. Let's move on to the
- 15:09section. And we can start start out by
- 15:11just taking
- 15:13these lines and copying it over here.
- 15:17Actually, do not. Oh, we can perhaps
- 15:20leave it here. Get rid of these. So,
- 15:23what I'm going to do is going to copy
- 15:24the lamp
- 15:27and paste it here. I'm going to loop it
- 15:31as we're going to use it as a guide. And
- 15:34then just turn it
- 15:38and
- 15:4190°.
- 15:50Perfect. We can actually go
- 15:53to guide and create another one here.
- 15:57Another one here. And roughly here.
- 16:02Yeah, perfect. Let me take the
- 16:05cupboard CC and just bring it into the
- 16:09into the join. Perfect. I also have that
- 16:12sticker. While I'm here, might as well
- 16:15grab a
- 16:17tap.
- 16:19And also grab the
- 16:22[Music]
- 16:27sink. Change this to be
- 16:31something. Perfect. We'll tweak it in a
- 16:34second. But do we need anything else
- 16:36from this side? No, this is perfect.
- 16:39What we can do now is create a
- 16:40guidelines of
- 16:43horizontally
- 16:44guides.
- 16:51O let me change there to annotation. So
- 16:54it's it's a ball.
- 17:08And one last one here.
- 17:14Perfect. You can go on and you can start
- 17:18with a splashback as it will give it the
- 17:20height of the the wall before the
- 17:22window. Go
- 17:25here here to 20. Yep. Perfect.
- 17:29And also I'm going to draw with a pong
- 17:31line. I'm going to draw a side
- 17:36splash. Okay. Next, let's draw the
- 17:41wall. Let's start with go to rectangle
- 17:45tool. I'm going to change it to
- 17:51default. Draw here perhaps a chipsome
- 17:54board which will be
- 17:5620. Okay. crit concrete slab should be
- 18:01around 85 mm. Then we can create a
- 18:06paper
- 18:08barrier and finally we would just add
- 18:11here on a layer for the insulation.
- 18:15Well, typically you would also
- 18:17include a couple more layers a drainage
- 18:20cy and a brick or stone facade.
- 18:26But this is okay for now. Let me go
- 18:31select the concrete wall. Let's go and
- 18:34change
- 18:35the gray. I'm going to copy
- 18:39it and paste it in place and give it
- 18:43another layer of this concrete texture.
- 18:48Yes, perfect. And to get the insulation
- 18:53texture for a hatch, we're going to draw
- 18:55just a simple straight
- 18:59line and go to style and type in
- 19:03insulation. Perfect. And voila. As
- 19:06simple as that. Because this already was
- 19:09part of the template, so we did not need
- 19:11to go and create it or search for it.
- 19:14What I'm going to do now is draw like a
- 19:17small finish on the wall as well. I
- 19:20don't know what to just do it
- 19:32high. Perfect.
- 19:35And you know what? I would like it to be
- 19:38like almost like a
- 19:41torato tile finish.
- 19:45And and this time I can actually add a
- 19:49fill. Go to texture and under the
- 19:53patterns we can select the Russo.
- 19:57Perfect. That looks great.
- 20:01Next
- 20:12up. Next up, we can actually bring in
- 20:15the window from our
- 20:18template. We're going to copy it. We're
- 20:21going to go align it with
- 20:23this. And I'm just going to drag it to
- 20:27the top.
- 20:34Perfect. And what we can do now is
- 20:37actually just show finish to the from
- 20:40this
- 20:45point. We can just give it this fill
- 20:50hatch in direction. Beautiful. So, I'm
- 20:54going to take these layers that we just
- 20:56created and
- 20:58copy C and put it here. Perfect. And
- 21:04what we're going to do is we're just
- 21:05going to shrink it to match the height
- 21:07of the of the
- 21:11wall. Next, what we can do, which would
- 21:14be fantastic, we're going to just steal
- 21:17this hatch from the elevation CC. Copy
- 21:21it and go here.
- 21:23in and fix it here. And what we're going
- 21:25to do is we're going to delete these. We
- 21:27do not need them. And we're just going
- 21:30to drag it and resize it from the edges.
- 21:33And this way we have saved ourselves
- 21:36some time in creating these covers
- 21:42as and we have already done that here.
- 21:45Yeah, perfect. It's starting to look
- 21:50great. Next is what I can do next is get
- 21:53rid of some of these
- 21:55guidelines. And I want to draw like some
- 21:58straight lines
- 22:00here just
- 22:03to to indicate the continuation of the
- 22:06of the four. And let me just get rid of
- 22:09these. We do not need them
- 22:11anymore. And perfect.
- 22:15Also, let me just get rid of this.
- 22:25I'll edit this and I'm going to uncip it
- 22:28and we're just going to simply get rid
- 22:30of the things because this cupboard is
- 22:32completely different
- 22:34[Music]
- 22:49And let's rearrange it a little
- 22:58bit. Resize this as
- 23:01well. The
- 23:03support for the side.
- 23:07Okay. Yeah, it's extra support that. And
- 23:11it's not to delete these doors cuz
- 23:13they're not the same. Just double click
- 23:15on it of these points and just drag to
- 23:20to the
- 23:24bottom. So I'll just copy this and
- 23:28create a a shell brow for around 20 cm
- 23:32above. And let's maybe align it to that
- 23:35to the sink and giving a little bit more
- 23:39space. Yeah, perfect.
- 23:42[Music]
- 23:44So, what I'm going to do next is kind of
- 23:46create a
- 23:47faucet. This faucet
- 23:49needs faucet needs a pipe. Go to shapes
- 23:54panel underneath and it's like a curve
- 23:56tool. And we're just going to draw the
- 23:58faucet pipe just like
- 24:02this. Perfect. And I'm going to go and
- 24:05offset it.
- 24:08Uh, I think this is this is perfect.
- 24:12just an indication that it is connected
- 24:14attached to some water source as well.
- 24:17And I think it is looking pretty great.
- 24:21Uh and the next step what we can
- 24:24do is start adding some annotations. I'm
- 24:28going to take this and copy here and
- 24:33also do the
- 24:35same over here.
- 24:39And we're going to rename this one. This
- 24:42was section 88. You're going to go and
- 24:44re name it as such as
- 24:46well.
- 24:48Section
- 24:52A. And this
- 25:01is embarrassing. Please do not cop me
- 25:03over. Click exploded
- 25:07and perfect. Now it looks
- 25:11better.
- 25:14And
- 25:18scale text. What we're going to do is
- 25:20we're going to annotate the drawing. So
- 25:24we're going to take an
- 25:28arrow. Going to create it here.
- 25:33And we going to change the annotation
- 25:37layer and change it to
- 25:40rounded something that is a little bit
- 25:43more elegant. You can extend it a little
- 25:45bit and add some text annotation here as
- 25:50well. You're going to you're going to
- 25:52call it upper
- 25:55cabinet. And I'm just going to link it
- 25:57to the bottom. And honestly, we can also
- 26:01make
- 26:02it much
- 26:05smaller. Maybe we're going to do
- 26:1070. Now we can select annotation text
- 26:14and arrow and and hold alt and duplicate
- 26:17it five more times.
- 26:40Non ring then
- 26:42also on
- 26:44pull
- 26:46down set.
- 26:53Go
- 26:59files
- 27:07work and
- 27:09lastly
- 27:11adjustable
- 27:14shop. Perfect. I'm going to make this
- 27:18text a little bit smaller. I think
- 27:21perhaps the
- 27:23V60 and pull it up a little bit and
- 27:26extract
- 27:30these. Yes, much better just to give it
- 27:33some space to
- 27:35read. Now what we're going to get into
- 27:38is
- 27:41dimensions. Luckily we already have in
- 27:44template a beautiful set of dimension
- 27:46styles. Now we can see copy defa def
- 27:50default dimensions. Okay, perfect. So
- 27:53what we're going to do is let's start
- 27:55with this with this section. Go to
- 27:58dimensions and
- 28:01annotations replace all and we're going
- 28:03to copy
- 28:05this
- 28:07style. A good rule of thumb that mention
- 28:10the important edges and not just
- 28:12decorative ones. and and we can avoid
- 28:14overloading our section with redundant
- 28:17dimensions. We want this to stay clean
- 28:19and readable. And dimensions are more
- 28:22than just numbers. These are all tied to
- 28:25ergonomics and standard kitchen
- 28:27guidelines. For instance, a countertop
- 28:30are typically set around 900 mm or or 36
- 28:35in high, which is comfortable for most
- 28:38tasks.
- 28:40And and what we're doing here is make
- 28:42sure every component is measurable and
- 28:44buildable and clearly understood by
- 28:46anyone who is not a designer like a
- 28:50client or a carpenter when we're handing
- 28:52over these milwork
- 28:57drawings. Yeah, perfect. That looks
- 29:00quite good. And we can go and do the
- 29:02same production for
- 29:07[Music]
- 29:44Let me do one more just
- 29:54Yeah, I think this looks quite
- 29:57neat. And I
- 30:01think this
- 30:04is looking very good. Let's select all
- 30:07of it. Shift Z to zoom in. have a good
- 30:11overview of. Of course, we can go and
- 30:14create a one to two or one to find
- 30:16details, but for this tutorial, we will
- 30:19just copy and paste it from the before.
- 30:23And then just simply position
- 30:28it here. And yeah, you just go and
- 30:32organize it a little bit so it's cleaner
- 30:35and in line so it clients perfectly with
- 30:38everything else.
- 30:43[Music]
- 30:46So, I think this is looking great. Let
- 30:48me maybe don't this
- 30:521.4. Let's Let's double click on the
- 30:54text and let's do
- 31:001.1 1.2 two.
- 31:16Okay, let's go to page and we just going
- 31:20to add new page or from
- 31:25here and this is
- 31:29a A4 image. I think it looks great. We
- 31:34can even maybe make it A3 here on the
- 31:36right side.
- 31:37format. Now, I think
- 31:41a A4 is
- 31:43good
- 31:45and we'll just keep it at
- 31:50landscape. Yeah, it's perfect. So, what
- 31:53I'm going to show you next is I'm going
- 31:55to export these drawings. We can go to
- 31:58the menu on the left hand side and go to
- 32:00export. We can export it as a PDF, DWG,
- 32:04or even an image file. yet. Let's export
- 32:08ADF and let's go
- 32:11all a preview window will pop up here
- 32:15with the magnifier can peek into
- 32:17different parts of the drawing and
- 32:18double check the line width colors and
- 32:21an even fixed clarity. If if needed, you
- 32:25can adjust the advanced settings as well
- 32:29like the stroke weight or switch to a
- 32:31PNG if you like. But I'm kind of happy
- 32:35with how it sits. So, we can go simply
- 32:37and hit
- 32:39[Music]
- 32:40export. And here is how you can create
- 32:43millwork drawings for your architecture
- 32:45or interior design projects. If you'd
- 32:47like to try it out yourself, don't
- 32:49forget to grab the template and explore
