Full transcript
- 0:00I want you to walk into a creative
- 0:01mindset with me. Imagine a space that
- 0:04you could design in any way that your
- 0:05heart desires. A space with no
- 0:07restrictions in respect to the rest of
- 0:09your home style. A space that would
- 0:11allow you to present boldness, almost
- 0:13abrasiveness, and still rest easy that
- 0:15you could be completely unapologetic in
- 0:18your choice of design. That space does
- 0:20exist and it's called the half bathroom.
- 0:22Today, I'm going to be sharing with you
- 0:24some items that will help you create a
- 0:26black tile bathroom. If you're a
- 0:28returning subscriber, hit the thumbs up.
- 0:30If you're new here, hopefully by the end
- 0:32of this video, you'll be a
- 0:34subscriber. There are a multitude of
- 0:36impressions that can be created through
- 0:38a dark bathroom design. But today, we're
- 0:40focusing on the influence of vintage
- 0:43punk and somewhat gothic
- 0:44characteristics. The goal is to have a
- 0:47person question themselves when they
- 0:48enter this powder room. To have their
- 0:50emotions clash internally, fighting as
- 0:53to whether they should feel a bit uneasy
- 0:55or fall into a trance of intrigue as
- 0:57their brain desperately tries to
- 0:59interpret what you've just presented.
- 1:01Ultimately, we want to have created such
- 1:03a mood that our guests walk out of the
- 1:04bathroom uttering, "And shepherds we
- 1:07shall be." To which we can respond, "For
- 1:09thee, my lord, for thee." In the
- 1:11bathroom's design, we're going to flip
- 1:13the commonly used pair of light walls,
- 1:15dark floors, and change it to dark
- 1:18walls, light floors. The vintage
- 1:20influence will lie in the floor tiles we
- 1:22use, as well as the 1950s styled single
- 1:25sink vanity. In all truth, we're really
- 1:27just creating a black modernized version
- 1:30of our grandfather's bathroom. For the
- 1:32look we're going for, I'm going to
- 1:34recommend a solid black glossy subway
- 1:37tile. If we were to stray away from the
- 1:39standard rectangular tile, we would be
- 1:42getting too far away from the origins
- 1:44we're attempting to preserve. If you
- 1:46don't go floor to ceiling with your
- 1:48tile, paint or wallpaper the remaining
- 1:50portions of the wall a dark neutral
- 1:52color. The punk and goth influences will
- 1:54appear in the lighting fixtures and
- 1:56mirror framing we choose. The lights can
- 1:58be steampunk inspired designs with matte
- 2:00or copper finishes, old castle-like
- 2:02chandeliers, or exposed Edison bulbs,
- 2:05just to name a few. The mirror framing
- 2:07can be reclaimed or stained wood, thick
- 2:09ribbon pattern designs or metal
- 2:11materials. You can use black, wood,
- 2:14silver, or burnt hue colors, whatever
- 2:16you desire. The artwork you choose will
- 2:18be the final touch that determines the
- 2:20overall tone your bathroom implies. My
- 2:23recommendation is to lean towards
- 2:24portraits which have subject matter like
- 2:27people, animals, or landscapes. Abstract
- 2:29art would be a little too experimental
- 2:31and non-traditional to complement the
- 2:33roots of the style we're trying to
- 2:35accomplish. to help you. I'm going to
- 2:36link some materials down below that
- 2:38might be able to get you started with
- 2:40creating your own design. Hopefully,
- 2:42this has been enough to start you on
- 2:44your way to creating your own black tile
- 2:46bathroom. If you enjoyed the video, hit
- 2:49the thumbs up. If you feel like sticking
- 2:50around a while, feel free to subscribe.
- 2:52See you on the next one.
