  1. 0:00if you've clicked on this video you're
  2. 0:01probably struggling with user retention
  3. 0:03and engagement right from the start
  4. 0:04you'd love to create an onboarding
  5. 0:06experience that not only retains your
  6. 0:08users but turns them into paying
  7. 0:10customers in this video I'm going to
  8. 0:11show you the exact steps I use to create
  9. 0:13an onboarding process that drives
  10. 0:15Revenue just like the one that helps my
  11. 0:17app generate $40,000 every single month
  12. 0:20in recurring Revenue I have absolutely
  13. 0:22nothing to sell you in this video I'm
  14. 0:23just going to show you exactly how I
  15. 0:25structure my on boardings for maximum
  16. 0:27profit if you watch the video Until the
  17. 0:29End I guarantee that you will have the
  18. 0:31skills and knowledge to turn more
  19. 0:33visitors into paying customers for your
  20. 0:35SAS and before we jump into things I
  21. 0:37just want to say thank you so much to
  22. 0:39all of you who have been subscribing we
  23. 0:40just hit 16,000 subscribers it means the
  24. 0:43world that you are enjoying the videos
  25. 0:44and please consider liking the video and
  26. 0:46subscribing it keeps me motivated to
  27. 0:48keep dropping value for free just like
  28. 0:51this so with that being said let's jump
  29. 0:53into it as always to prove that I'm not
  30. 0:55capping and I know exactly what I'm
  31. 0:56talking about here is my revenue for the
  32. 0:58past 30 days as you can see in the last
  33. 1:0030 days we have done close to $40,000 in
  34. 1:02sales and if we go to the last 90 we are
  35. 1:04close to
  36. 1:05$100,000 in sales so this onboarding
  37. 1:09process really does work and here's our
  38. 1:10AR we just hit $500,000 in annual
  39. 1:13recurring Revenue which is insane so
  40. 1:16this really is proof that an onboarding
  41. 1:18flow is crucial because my onboarding
  42. 1:21flow allows me to turn more of the
  43. 1:23people who visit my product into paying
  44. 1:26customers and I'm going to show you
  45. 1:27exactly how to do that so stick around
  46. 1:29until the end of this video so what
  47. 1:30we're going to be covering is first of
  48. 1:32all what is an onboarding how you should
  49. 1:34prepare and do research for your
  50. 1:36onboarding the design and the
  51. 1:38development phase of your onboarding and
  52. 1:40then we are going to talk about
  53. 1:41optimizing your onboarding getting
  54. 1:42feedback from users and AB testing
  55. 1:44everything so with that being said what
  56. 1:46is an onboarding I am going to use my
  57. 1:49onboarding and show you exactly what my
  58. 1:51onboarding looks like to explain this so
  59. 1:53your onboarding is your user's first
  60. 1:55experience with your product so I have a
  61. 1:57mobile app it's called Puff count and
  62. 1:58the first thing that my us us see is
  63. 2:01this screen right here congratulations
  64. 2:03reaffirming their decision to download
  65. 2:06my product and check it out so I say
  66. 2:08congratulations you're on the way to a
  67. 2:09healthier lifestyle my app helps people
  68. 2:11quit vaping so I like to reaffirm the
  69. 2:14decision of them downloading they have a
  70. 2:16little sign-in process here and then I
  71. 2:17have some value screens where I explain
  72. 2:19exactly what the features are in the app
  73. 2:22and then we have social proof which is
  74. 2:23Big we're going to go over this later
  75. 2:25but you know we just drop uh some
  76. 2:26numbers here 500,000 plus users and then
  77. 2:29we have a user survey this is the most
  78. 2:32important part of the onboarding we're
  79. 2:34going to dive into the the survey here
  80. 2:36in a second then we have more social
  81. 2:38proof here and then finally the users
  82. 2:40hit my pay wall and they make a decision
  83. 2:42to pay or not so right off the Jump you
  84. 2:45can see that this onboarding is pretty
  85. 2:47extensive and that's by Design we want
  86. 2:49the onboarding to be long we want the
  87. 2:51onboarding to be a place where users
  88. 2:53feel like they are building value for
  89. 2:55themselves within your product and you
  90. 2:57want them to dedicate time to your
  91. 2:58onboarding right because if you you just
  92. 3:00throw them in and you say hey welcome to
  93. 3:01my app pay right now they're not going
  94. 3:04to do that right you need to kind of
  95. 3:05walk them through your product their
  96. 3:07problems and then position your product
  97. 3:10as something that will solve those
  98. 3:11problems for them so with that being
  99. 3:13said that is your onboarding it's the
  100. 3:16user's first experience with your
  101. 3:17product you are educating the users you
  102. 3:19are gathering data which is huge you can
  103. 3:21use the onboarding to collect their
  104. 3:23email phone number demographic data and
  105. 3:25this will help you in marketing in the
  106. 3:27future and again you know the main use
  107. 3:30of an onboarding is priming the user for
  108. 3:32your product educating them and priming
  109. 3:34their brain priming their thought
  110. 3:35process to you know think hey this is a
  111. 3:38product that I really do need because
  112. 3:39that's what we want them to think when
  113. 3:42they hit your pay wall and they decide
  114. 3:43to pay for your products or not with
  115. 3:45that being said the first step to
  116. 3:46building an amazing onboarding is your
  117. 3:49preparation and your research you need
  118. 3:51to know what your onboarding should look
  119. 3:53like and a great way to do that is you
  120. 3:54can check out competitors and see what
  121. 3:56they're doing if you're building a
  122. 3:57mobile app look at other mobile apps if
  123. 3:59you're building a web app look at other
  124. 4:00web apps and see what they're doing on
  125. 4:01their onboarding how are they educating
  126. 4:03their their users what questions they
  127. 4:04asking what data are they collecting use
  128. 4:07the top performing apps in the space
  129. 4:08right and I found a really cool website
  130. 4:10here it's called mobin and again if you
  131. 4:13want the link to this entire document
  132. 4:15I'll drop some useful links in here you
  133. 4:17can download this document in the
  134. 4:18description it'll be completely free so
  135. 4:20go check that out but I found this
  136. 4:21amazing website called mobin where you
  137. 4:23can actually look at other apps
  138. 4:25onboarding screens so for example here's
  139. 4:28an app called Marcus and and you can
  140. 4:29flow through and check out their entire
  141. 4:31all morning screen here's another good
  142. 4:32one I'm assuming this is a mental health
  143. 4:35journal app right so we can scroll
  144. 4:37through here we jump right into it and
  145. 4:39there is a survey right so they're
  146. 4:41collecting data on their users and
  147. 4:43priming them to be ready to use their
  148. 4:45products here's bumbles I don't have the
  149. 4:47pro version so we can't see this there
  150. 4:48are a lot of amazing onboarding here you
  151. 4:50can even see the subscription and
  152. 4:52upgrading pages so I definitely
  153. 4:54recommend you go check out mobin to do
  154. 4:56your initial market research and then
  155. 4:59also than to yourself too like what data
  156. 5:01is useful for your future product
  157. 5:04development for example you know I ask
  158. 5:06users what brings you to the app do you
  159. 5:08just want to quit vaping do you want to
  160. 5:09better understand your habit are you not
  161. 5:11sure knowing why users are coming into
  162. 5:14your app or your products and using your
  163. 5:16product is crucial right what are their
  164. 5:19what are their main problems what are
  165. 5:20your side effects how long have you been
  166. 5:22vaping how often do you feel the desire
  167. 5:24to vape all of this data gives me such a
  168. 5:27clear picture of who my user is and then
  169. 5:30I can tell who's paying and who's not
  170. 5:32you know maybe people who only have the
  171. 5:34desire to vape one time a day or
  172. 5:36whatever they're not likely to pay and
  173. 5:38people who Vape all the time are more
  174. 5:40likely to pay so I can use that in my
  175. 5:42marketing messaging and to develop my
  176. 5:44product in the future so your onboarding
  177. 5:46will give you a lot of useful
  178. 5:47information on how you can customize
  179. 5:50your user experience based on the
  180. 5:52information that they give you and the
  181. 5:54last thing I'll say here about
  182. 5:55preparation and research is at the end
  183. 5:57of your onboarding you want your user to
  184. 5:59be Prime crimes you want them to walk
  185. 6:01through their own problems so that's
  186. 6:03exactly what I do in my survey so I
  187. 6:05strategically ask these questions to
  188. 6:08make people think about their problem
  189. 6:10with vaping have you made an effort to
  190. 6:12to quit in the past how often do you
  191. 6:14feel the desire to vape do you feel that
  192. 6:17your desire is increasing over time to
  193. 6:19vape what area of your life is most
  194. 6:21affected how much are you spending
  195. 6:23vaping right these are all questions
  196. 6:25that walk my users through their own
  197. 6:27problem and I am strategically doing
  198. 6:29this so they think about the problem
  199. 6:31that they're having a little bit more
  200. 6:33again so they are primed to want to pay
  201. 6:36and want to fix this problem so I
  202. 6:38recommend you go through this exercise
  203. 6:39you do the market research you check out
  204. 6:41other people's on boardings and you
  205. 6:43understand kind of what questions you
  206. 6:45should be asking and the way I did this
  207. 6:47was I dumped it all on one Google doc I
  208. 6:50actually hired a behavioral scientist to
  209. 6:53help me with this survey so I kind of
  210. 6:55brain dumped everything here and you
  211. 6:57know even took questions from National
  212. 7:00Drug strategy surveys these are
  213. 7:02scientific surveys they're backed by
  214. 7:04science so I know that these questions
  215. 7:07are valid um and the data that I'm
  216. 7:09getting back is useful not only for my
  217. 7:11app but maybe for research in the future
  218. 7:14right so first when you're constructing
  219. 7:16your onboarding I would lay it all out
  220. 7:18in a Google doc just like I did here and
  221. 7:21then once you have all your questions
  222. 7:23and kind of the screens that you want
  223. 7:25you can get your onboarding designed and
  224. 7:28again if you watch the the channel you
  225. 7:30know exactly what I'm going to say for
  226. 7:32the design part of this you should
  227. 7:34always go to 99 designs 99 designs is
  228. 7:38hands down the best place to get designs
  229. 7:40done what you can do is build a contest
  230. 7:43and you can get an onboarding screen
  231. 7:44done a pay wall screen multiple screens
  232. 7:46done whatever you want um you just put
  233. 7:48up some money and you upload your
  234. 7:50sketches you upload your Google doc uh
  235. 7:53so the designers understand your project
  236. 7:55and then you can pick your winner you
  237. 7:57only pay for the winning design so that
  238. 7:59is exactly how I got my onboarding done
  239. 8:01I launched a contest for the pay wall
  240. 8:03actually and then this designer won his
  241. 8:05name is Zach super talented guy and I
  242. 8:07ended up hiring him to build the rest of
  243. 8:10my onboarding so if you're looking for a
  244. 8:12designer if you need a designer 99
  245. 8:14designs is the only place to go and then
  246. 8:16the final step of building an amazing
  247. 8:18onboarding is optimization and feedback
  248. 8:21you should always be AB testing
  249. 8:23everything so for example for my
  250. 8:25onboarding survey or my entire
  251. 8:26onboarding rather I use mix panels so I
  252. 8:30am able to tell how many users started
  253. 8:32my onboarding to how many users
  254. 8:35converted right like I can see the
  255. 8:37conversion rate on each individual step
  256. 8:40of the questions that I'm asking or of
  257. 8:42the onboarding screens that are shown to
  258. 8:44them so for example you know here uh
  259. 8:47100% of the users have completed the
  260. 8:49onboarding so far and then around 7%
  261. 8:51drop off so you can move these questions
  262. 8:53around you can move your screens around
  263. 8:55and try to optimize for the highest
  264. 8:57completion rate possible and that is a
  265. 8:59exactly what you want to optimize for
  266. 9:01you want to optimize for a high
  267. 9:03completion rate and you also want to
  268. 9:04optimize for the percentage of people
  269. 9:06who convert to a paying customer
  270. 9:08changing your onboarding and switching
  271. 9:10questions around or asking different
  272. 9:12questions if your users aren't
  273. 9:13converting a lot like this is all
  274. 9:14testing that you should be doing and a
  275. 9:16little tip here is to push the harder
  276. 9:18questions the more intense questions
  277. 9:20towards the end of the survey because if
  278. 9:22you do that the user has already
  279. 9:23committed their time and they're more
  280. 9:25likely to answer the tougher questions
  281. 9:27and that's pretty much it you should
  282. 9:29just learn put your onboarding out there
  283. 9:31experiment and always make your
  284. 9:33decisions based on data try to get some
  285. 9:36software like mix panel or some other
  286. 9:38analytic software and really understand
  287. 9:41where your users are dropping off
  288. 9:43understand the conversion rate the
  289. 9:45conversion rate to paid and mess around
  290. 9:47with your pay wall and change things
  291. 9:48around until you find the most optimized
  292. 9:51conversion rate if you stuck around to
  293. 9:53this point in the video you probably
  294. 9:54enjoyed it so I would definitely
  295. 9:55appreciate you dropping a like and if
  296. 9:58you want subscribe if you have any
  297. 10:00questions whatsoever be sure to DM me on
