  1. 0:00hello this is georgina rose part-time
  2. 0:02esoteric content creator and part-time
  3. 0:03center of pestilence and welcome back to
  4. 0:05the dot darling youtube channel on this
  5. 0:07channel we discuss magic mysticism
  6. 0:09religion the occult and everything on
  7. 0:10the fringes of esoterica and in this
  8. 0:13video i want to do something a little
  9. 0:14different
  10. 0:24it was almost a year ago when i made a
  11. 0:26video called how to begin your path and
  12. 0:29through that time since then i've made a
  13. 0:32lot of videos on different subjects
  14. 0:33different practices etc but one thing
  15. 0:36that i've never covered is
  16. 0:38how do you take it to the next level so
  17. 0:40let's say you've been practicing you've
  18. 0:42been studying for quite some time
  19. 0:44and you're getting into that point where
  20. 0:46you're like okay i get the basics i sort
  21. 0:48of know what i'm doing but you don't
  22. 0:50know where to go next essentially you're
  23. 0:52struggling at becoming advanced the term
  24. 0:55advanced in the occult is a really
  25. 0:57interesting one because it's a hard
  26. 0:58thing to define i actually did a podcast
  27. 1:00episode on what makes a person advanced
  28. 1:04quite some time back i'll link that
  29. 1:05below but this really got me thinking
  30. 1:08what do we do next
  31. 1:10what comes next and i actually recently
  32. 1:12read a book on this topic called the
  33. 1:13witches path by thorin mooney which very
  34. 1:16very good very good book that sort of
  35. 1:17addresses this subject but i wanted to
  36. 1:19give my spin on it and my advice on it
  37. 1:22because trust me i've made some mistakes
  38. 1:24in my experience as a practitioner and i
  39. 1:27have in many times hit these ruts and
  40. 1:29these walls online we sort of like to
  41. 1:31think of spirituality as a progress that
  42. 1:33always goes up and never address the
  43. 1:35fact that there are times where you will
  44. 1:37have setbacks there are times where
  45. 1:38you'll be stagnant and that stuff needs
  46. 1:41to be talked about so that we can break
  47. 1:44through that and so i'm here to admit it
  48. 1:46i've made mistakes i'm not a perfect
  49. 1:48practitioner but no one is it's a
  50. 1:50spiritual journey for a reason not a
  51. 1:52spiritual destination so my first big
  52. 1:55thing is to make sure all three limbs of
  53. 1:57a good occult practice are
  54. 2:00there so i sort of have come up with a
  55. 2:02model for how i think a successful
  56. 2:04occult practice needs to operate and
  57. 2:06that's with three branches this doesn't
  58. 2:07matter if you're a mystic a witch an
  59. 2:09occultist whatever label you like to
  60. 2:11call yourself and that would be first
  61. 2:12study and research this is going to
  62. 2:15lectures going to discussion groups
  63. 2:17reading books watching videos listening
  64. 2:18to podcasts taking in that information
  65. 2:21looking at the theology looking at the
  66. 2:23metaphysics and learning through being
  67. 2:25told from the people that have come
  68. 2:26before us
  69. 2:27the second limb is practice that is
  70. 2:30doing the thing
  71. 2:32if you want to sit around and just read
  72. 2:34occult manuscripts and just learn that's
  73. 2:35totally fine that's basically what being
  74. 2:37a scholar is the idea of the armchair
  75. 2:39magician is often used in a derogatory
  76. 2:42way because of course if you want to be
  77. 2:43in a cultist you want to be a magician
  78. 2:45you need to apply the thing but if you
  79. 2:47are someone who is someone who's just
  80. 2:49interested in it from a curiosity
  81. 2:51perspective that's valid i just would
  82. 2:53call that scholarship more so than being
  83. 2:57an occultist or being a practitioner but
  84. 2:58that's my opinion you don't have to
  85. 3:00agree with me on that but you do need to
  86. 3:03study at some point but that study needs
  87. 3:05to become practice that will be your
  88. 3:07daily rituals that will be doing rituals
  89. 3:09once a month on the full moon that will
  90. 3:12be praying that'll be doing whatever it
  91. 3:15is that your practice mandates doing
  92. 3:17that regularly and consistently
  93. 3:19not everyone is going to want to do
  94. 3:21magic all the time that's completely
  95. 3:23legitimate but you still need to
  96. 3:24practice like don't allow it to go a
  97. 3:26month or two without practicing if you
  98. 3:28can obviously life gets in the way
  99. 3:30sometimes but trying to maintain a
  100. 3:32steady and consistent practice will
  101. 3:34really really help the third limb is the
  102. 3:36one that is not discussed as much and i
  103. 3:38think we should talk about more and that
  104. 3:39is contemplation when you have a
  105. 3:40spiritual experience typically it's
  106. 3:43really hard to break down and process i
  107. 3:46find that spiritual experiences tend to
  108. 3:47be very symbolic very much esoteric on
  109. 3:50the literal sense and processing them
  110. 3:52takes a long time so you need to make
  111. 3:54sure you cut out some time to process
  112. 3:56what you've gone through to sit and
  113. 3:58contemplate and think about it and when
  114. 4:00you consume material like educational
  115. 4:02material to think about does this make
  116. 4:04sense to me am i just agreeing with this
  117. 4:06because i think it's what an occultist
  118. 4:08is supposed to do or do i believe this
  119. 4:10because it aligns with my personal
  120. 4:12experiences so making sure you can
  121. 4:14contemplate and think about things is
  122. 4:16really really important my second tip
  123. 4:18has to do with keeping a magical record
  124. 4:20there's a bunch of terms for this the
  125. 4:22magical record the book of shadows the
  126. 4:24grimoire the journal whatever you want
  127. 4:25to call it every tradition has sort of a
  128. 4:27term for a notebook where you write down
  129. 4:30what you're doing and sometimes what
  130. 4:32you're learning but if you want to make
  131. 4:34this really work for you i suggest
  132. 4:37leaving space for your results and your
  133. 4:39observations so you write down the
  134. 4:41ritual you're doing if you're someone
  135. 4:42who writes down correspondences i
  136. 4:44personally don't do stuff like that i
  137. 4:46use my magical record very strictly as
  138. 4:49like my personal practice and like what
  139. 4:51i'm doing i always leave space for my
  140. 4:54results for if i have dreams if i do
  141. 4:56divination afterwards because i find
  142. 4:57it's really helpful to do a tarot
  143. 4:59reading after you do a ritual to like be
  144. 5:01like what will this bring me what does
  145. 5:03this mean stuff like that and write that
  146. 5:05down and i will basically put on the
  147. 5:07left side of my notebook what i'm doing
  148. 5:09and on the right side all my results and
  149. 5:11sometimes even weeks later i'll see like
  150. 5:12a sign like let's say i did a hakate
  151. 5:15ritual and then
  152. 5:16two weeks later i see a hecate side i
  153. 5:18would write that on that page i think
  154. 5:20that that can really take it to the next
  155. 5:21level my third tip is to read
  156. 5:24older things so a lot of modern occult
  157. 5:26material is very beginner oriented this
  158. 5:29is because a lot of people are always
  159. 5:31coming into the practice as well reading
  160. 5:33beginner books when you're more
  161. 5:34experienced there's no shame in that i
  162. 5:35read beginner books still there's a lot
  163. 5:37of subjects in the occult that i'm not
  164. 5:39versed on and so i will turn to beginner
  165. 5:42books because you know it gives me
  166. 5:44context on an area that i'm not aware of
  167. 5:46and i find even as a thalamite sometimes
  168. 5:48i'll read a beginner thalima book just
  169. 5:49to you know see new perspectives i feel
  170. 5:51like there's always something you can
  171. 5:52learn from a book unless the book's
  172. 5:54absolutely terrible but most occult
  173. 5:56books are not absolutely terrible but
  174. 5:58eventually you're going to need to step
  175. 6:00beyond that and read older books a lot
  176. 6:03of these modern books are essentially
  177. 6:05pulling from the same sources and the
  178. 6:06same thinkers if you look far enough
  179. 6:08back
  180. 6:09right like when it comes to practical
  181. 6:10occultism eventually you're gonna want
  182. 6:13to read crowley it's just you're gonna
  183. 6:15want to like the idea of will that's
  184. 6:17something that's so
  185. 6:18ingrained in modern western occultism
  186. 6:21that eventually you're going to want to
  187. 6:22read crowley eventually you're going to
  188. 6:24want to read the three books of a cult
  189. 6:25philosophy by agrippa because that's
  190. 6:26been one of the most revolutionary
  191. 6:28occulta books and a lot of occult ideas
  192. 6:30are from that text eventually you're
  193. 6:32going to have to suck it up and read the
  194. 6:34source books i i like the term source
  195. 6:36books for them there's one series
  196. 6:38lewellen does they call like the source
  197. 6:40books where they reprint older stuff i
  198. 6:42like that term because this is where a
  199. 6:44lot of the sourcing comes from and then
  200. 6:45modern books are building upon the
  201. 6:47source books because our traditions are
  202. 6:49built upon what has come before it's
  203. 6:52always expanding it's always growing
  204. 6:54it's a living tradition that's you know
  205. 6:56growing based off those sources so
  206. 6:57you're gonna need to read them i know
  207. 6:59that they can be hard certain sections
  208. 7:02can be
  209. 7:03problematic if you're someone who gets
  210. 7:05into that you know like
  211. 7:07you just kind of have to do it at some
  212. 7:08point there's no real way around it if
  213. 7:11you want to go super deep eventually
  214. 7:12you're gonna have to read an old book
  215. 7:14sorry i'm actually not sorry about that
  216. 7:17just just just read the book it's it's
  217. 7:19not that bad it's not going to hurt you
  218. 7:21the book is not going to kill your
  219. 7:22family that's what uh that's what the
  220. 7:24tick-tockers claim moldavite does okay
  221. 7:25so if we think about it isn't moldavite
  222. 7:28more of a hazard to your life than old
  223. 7:29books my next tip is to start making
  224. 7:32your own supplies so to save money a lot
  225. 7:35of people at the beginning make their
  226. 7:36own supplies but i find that people
  227. 7:38don't make everything they use because
  228. 7:40sometimes making things can actually not
  229. 7:42really save you much money typically
  230. 7:44when you make things uh there's a bigger
  231. 7:46upfront cost but you end up saving in
  232. 7:49the long run but beyond the monetary
  233. 7:51thing making your own materials can
  234. 7:54really really help because when you make
  235. 7:56your own materials you can make sure all
  236. 7:58the correspondences are in there and you
  237. 8:00can understand what you're working with
  238. 8:02at a deeper level if you're buying
  239. 8:04incense sticks you're probably not going
  240. 8:06to be thinking about what resins are in
  241. 8:08here what is everything building into it
  242. 8:10or if you're buying oils you know when
  243. 8:12you make your own oils you can pick the
  244. 8:14base based on correspondences if you're
  245. 8:15making a solar oil you could opt for
  246. 8:17sunflower oil instead of olive oil as
  247. 8:19your base and you can pick every single
  248. 8:20herb that's in there and in terms of
  249. 8:22making like ritual tools like floor mats
  250. 8:25if you're supposed to do ceremonial
  251. 8:26magic a lot of people make these uh
  252. 8:28big floor mats with the symbols on them
  253. 8:31so they don't have to draw on the floor
  254. 8:32every time you know when you make that
  255. 8:34yourself you have a lot more
  256. 8:35customization options and you can really
  257. 8:37think about every single factor that's
  258. 8:39being put into it on a much deeper level
  259. 8:42so when you are becoming more advanced
  260. 8:43make more of your stuff because there's
  261. 8:45a lot that you can learn about
  262. 8:46correspondence by making things and when
  263. 8:48you make your own things if you're
  264. 8:49making oils you could make the oils
  265. 8:51let's say it's a solar oil on a sunday
  266. 8:54so that it is corresponding on an even
  267. 8:56deeper level so it gives you a lot more
  268. 8:58power to customize and make sure that
  269. 9:00every single thing that's going into
  270. 9:01your ritualistic microcosm is what you
  271. 9:03want my next tip is about language so
  272. 9:06when you're getting into ceremonial
  273. 9:07magic specifically older traditions
  274. 9:10eventually you're gonna run into some
  275. 9:12rituals that have some sections that are
  276. 9:14not in english if you're a felonite like
  277. 9:17me you're gonna have to look at greek
  278. 9:19and kabbalah which is in hebrew so with
  279. 9:22kabbalah you really do need to learn a
  280. 9:24little bit of hebrew to truly understand
  281. 9:26kabbalah um especially like like you can
  282. 9:29look at the tree of life and you can
  283. 9:30just remember what those words translate
  284. 9:31to but eventually you're really going to
  285. 9:33want to learn the hebrew alphabet so
  286. 9:35that would be something that you need to
  287. 9:37do however you do not need to actually
  288. 9:40attain fluency in any language that
  289. 9:42you're studying and if you want to do
  290. 9:44that that's great but it's not generally
  291. 9:46necessary typically like with greek
  292. 9:48because i don't actually speak greek i
  293. 9:50will when i get presented a ritual like
  294. 9:53say the star ruby that's a themic ritual
  295. 9:54has some greek it i will make sure that
  296. 9:56i translate and make sure the
  297. 9:58translations are collect correct of
  298. 10:00everything that's in there so i know
  299. 10:01what i'm actually saying a lot of times
  300. 10:04things that are in other languages are
  301. 10:05in other languages as a point of
  302. 10:07emphasis
  303. 10:08and so they are in other languages for a
  304. 10:10reason it's not like the stereotypical
  305. 10:12horror movie that just like randomly
  306. 10:13puts things in latin for some reason
  307. 10:15like there's typically a reason for it
  308. 10:16and you're going to want to know what
  309. 10:17you're saying but it's typically not
  310. 10:19necessary to actually attain fluency you
  311. 10:22just need to know the alphabet some
  312. 10:23basic understandings like some very very
  313. 10:25basic information and what you're
  314. 10:27actually saying so that you can make
  315. 10:28sure it's something you actually want to
  316. 10:30say my next tip is something that's a
  317. 10:33little personal to me and something that
  318. 10:35i've wrestled with a lot and that would
  319. 10:37be guilt when we talk about religious
  320. 10:39guilt we typically think of catholicism
  321. 10:41right like the catholic who sinned and
  322. 10:44they feel this immense guilt and that
  323. 10:46they failed as a person right but
  324. 10:48religious guilt is something that we all
  325. 10:50can feel personally i get it around um
  326. 10:53sometimes daily practices so you guys
  327. 10:55know i'm a big believer in daily
  328. 10:56practices i have videos on it i think
  329. 10:58that a daily practice is essential to
  330. 11:01becoming a more successful more advanced
  331. 11:05practitioner that regularity makes a
  332. 11:08huge huge difference i do things like
  333. 11:09rush and lbrps every single day
  334. 11:12and occasionally
  335. 11:14things get in the way especially with
  336. 11:16resh i find this happens more with me
  337. 11:18with resh than anything else i do
  338. 11:19because you have to do multiple times a
  339. 11:21day um i'll be like running errands and
  340. 11:23i'll forget say the noon rush
  341. 11:26um and i'll feel bad about it like i
  342. 11:28will be like god damn it i'm a bad
  343. 11:31thalamite
  344. 11:33but that doesn't help anyone with these
  345. 11:35rituals if you miss one it's not life or
  346. 11:38death just either do it when you
  347. 11:40remember or do the next one and just get
  348. 11:43back on track the guilt i find prevents
  349. 11:45me from even getting back on my feet
  350. 11:47right like if i miss a rush i'll be like
  351. 11:49well what's the point of doing the rest
  352. 11:50of rush today i've already messed it up
  353. 11:52and you just get into this really
  354. 11:54negative spiral really fast and it's not
  355. 11:56helpful even for bigger things like
  356. 11:58let's say you
  357. 12:00miss a full moon ritual because you're
  358. 12:02sick don't beat yourself up over it it
  359. 12:05doesn't even help you get back on track
  360. 12:07focus on getting back on track and
  361. 12:09release the guilt
  362. 12:11guilt is holding you back guilt is not
  363. 12:14helping you throw it away put it in the
  364. 12:17trash my next tip is to not forget your
  365. 12:19fundamentals there are some fundamental
  366. 12:22things that people learn early on that
  367. 12:24would be visualization breath work
  368. 12:27meditation sigils these very simple
  369. 12:29things that beginners you know
  370. 12:31get told early on don't lose track of
  371. 12:34them i find when people become more
  372. 12:35advanced they get really into
  373. 12:38i don't know if it's like chasing the
  374. 12:40flashy rituals chasing the exciting
  375. 12:41rituals there are multiple ways you
  376. 12:43could phrase it but let's say they get
  377. 12:44really really into a nokian or go away
  378. 12:46shot and they want to do these huge
  379. 12:48ceremonial rituals they want to do these
  380. 12:50big initiations all this stuff but in
  381. 12:53that process they forget
  382. 12:55where all this begins the beginner stuff
  383. 12:58the breath the sigil the meditation you
  384. 13:01could even spend your entire spiritual
  385. 13:03career studying breath and meditation
  386. 13:06and you would still have more to learn
  387. 13:09these fundamentals are fundamentals
  388. 13:10because they're building blocks they're
  389. 13:12the foundation in which the house is
  390. 13:14built upon so you should not forget them
  391. 13:17and you should still be reading about
  392. 13:19them keep doing your meditation keep
  393. 13:21reading about the complexity of what
  394. 13:23breath can do because it's amazing how
  395. 13:25much literally the different ways you
  396. 13:26can breathe
  397. 13:28can make a difference so don't forget
  398. 13:31where the basics are don't lose sight of
  399. 13:33them they are fundamentals not beginner
  400. 13:36things my next is to read books that are
  401. 13:39not a cult
  402. 13:40when you're trying to take the occult to
  403. 13:42the next level
  404. 13:44reading exclusively occult genre books
  405. 13:47can actually
  406. 13:48hold you back a little bit i love occult
  407. 13:50literature i read occult books all the
  408. 13:52time i feel like i constantly have one
  409. 13:54coming in my house
  410. 13:56but there are other things that can
  411. 13:57actually really help your practice
  412. 14:00things like if you're someone who's into
  413. 14:02herbal magic or like plant stuff or the
  414. 14:05mysteries of plant spirits or something
  415. 14:08read books on botany on gardening those
  416. 14:10will really really help you if you're
  417. 14:13someone who's very tied to specific
  418. 14:15tradition let's say you're a christian
  419. 14:16mystic or a kabbalist or something read
  420. 14:19theology learning to just straight
  421. 14:21religious information can really really
  422. 14:23help as well in general philosophy is
  423. 14:26really valuable understanding the
  424. 14:28philosophic meaning of what you're doing
  425. 14:30can really help you find direction as a
  426. 14:32thalamite i think the thalemic
  427. 14:33philosophy is really really important to
  428. 14:35my life and my practice don't avoid
  429. 14:38something just because it's not strictly
  430. 14:39a cult you'd be surprised how much
  431. 14:41adjacent genres can really really help
  432. 14:43you find new ideas new direction and new
  433. 14:46inspiration my next bit of advice is
  434. 14:48something that people will probably feel
  435. 14:50pretty strongly about some people may
  436. 14:52really disagree with me on this and that
  437. 14:54would be
  438. 14:55have a willingness to change directions
  439. 14:58so when you start in spirituality you're
  440. 15:00going to want to have a direction a path
  441. 15:02a way forward and for a lot of people
  442. 15:04that becomes traditions let's say you're
  443. 15:06really into italian folk magic you're
  444. 15:08really into philemon you're really into
  445. 15:09our medicine and you're really into
  446. 15:10gnosticism you can keep going on
  447. 15:14but at some point you may change
  448. 15:17directions
  449. 15:18your spiritual practice could look
  450. 15:20really different i know what i first
  451. 15:22started practicing is not what i
  452. 15:23practiced today and you need to be okay
  453. 15:26with that i think sometimes we're so
  454. 15:29married to specific labels and specific
  455. 15:31tracks because there is a comfort in
  456. 15:33practicing a tradition right like
  457. 15:35especially if it's one that has like a
  458. 15:36degree structure you know that's that's
  459. 15:38a path it's it's a solution it gives you
  460. 15:41you know your your future right
  461. 15:43but sometimes spirituality is not that
  462. 15:46clean
  463. 15:47sometimes we need to remember that
  464. 15:49spirituality is a journey that means
  465. 15:51moving from one place to another
  466. 15:53you may end up changing paradigms
  467. 15:55traditions religions i know so many
  468. 15:57people who got into witchcraft to just
  469. 15:59be a secular witch and then ended up a
  470. 16:01full-blown pagan sometimes even just a
  471. 16:03devotional polytheists who wasn't doing
  472. 16:04witchcraft like five years later your
  473. 16:06path is going to change and you need to
  474. 16:10be okay with that and not let this
  475. 16:12fixation on having a spiritual identity
  476. 16:14because i think that's really what it is
  477. 16:16people want an identity a label a thing
  478. 16:18that gives them that comfort
  479. 16:21sometimes you need to release that and
  480. 16:22sometimes
  481. 16:23you may change traditions
  482. 16:26and that's okay my final tip is probably
  483. 16:29the most important thing that i say in
  484. 16:31this entire video and that would be
  485. 16:33remember why you're doing this
  486. 16:36are you doing magic just to do rituals
  487. 16:38or are you doing it for something higher
  488. 16:40remember the great work remember your
  489. 16:42true will remember what that driving
  490. 16:44force is for why you're doing this don't
  491. 16:46just do rituals because you want to do
  492. 16:49rituals right do them because they are
  493. 16:51leading to something think about your
  494. 16:53goals think about your aims think about
  495. 16:55what this all means for you and follow
  496. 16:57that
  497. 16:58that
  498. 16:59direction that purpose is really
  499. 17:01important and for me as a fellow mind
  500. 17:03obviously that means true will i always
  501. 17:06come back to the importance of my true
  502. 17:08will and what that might be and
  503. 17:09following that that comes first and that
  504. 17:13core purpose
  505. 17:15is how i know
  506. 17:16what i'm going to even do that's what
  507. 17:19drives me what guides me what gives me
  508. 17:20the direction so always do your rituals
  509. 17:23for that deeper thing not just because
  510. 17:25you want to do rituals so that's pretty
  511. 17:27much what i want to say on this topic uh
  512. 17:29like comment subscribe and ring the bell
