  1. 0:00All right, here is a big question. When
  2. 0:02it comes to your job, do you work to
  3. 0:04live or live to work? Well, a recent
  4. 0:06report from remote.com ranked countries
  5. 0:09with the best work life balance. New
  6. 0:11Zealand, Ireland, and Belgium topped the
  7. 0:13list. But how about the US?
  8. 0:16>> Out of six countries ranked, we came in
  9. 0:18at 59. Not good. During the first
  10. 0:21quarter of the year, career site glass
  11. 0:23door saw a 32% increase in job reviews,
  12. 0:27mentioning burnout compared to last
  13. 0:28year. It's the highest it's been since
  14. 0:30they began tracking this back in 2016.
  15. 0:33So, how can we find a better work life
  16. 0:35balance? Maisha Wyn is a lifestyle
  17. 0:37contributor and author of the winning
  18. 0:39way and she joins us now. Welcome
  19. 0:42Maisha. So good to have you with us.
  20. 0:45>> Hey, Kelly. Hey, Nancy. Happy Winning
  21. 0:48Wellness Wednesday.
  22. 0:50>> Oh, I love that. Winning wellness
  23. 0:51Wednesday. Uh, okay. I feel like this is
  24. 0:53like my personal therapy segment because
  25. 0:55I do not have work life balance. I think
  26. 0:57no one in this industry does. So, how
  27. 0:59can we better manage our time to to
  28. 1:03achieve that?
  29. 1:06>> So, we're taught that it's all about
  30. 1:09certain hours in the day, but it's time
  31. 1:11to switch our thinking where it's all
  32. 1:12about connecting with your energy. And
  33. 1:15so, let's say that you wake up in the
  34. 1:18morning at 7:00 a.m. and you're in the
  35. 1:19office at 9:00 a.m. That's your high
  36. 1:22energy time when you're fresh and you're
  37. 1:24focused. So, you want to make sure
  38. 1:26you're doing things like maybe setting
  39. 1:28up Zoom calls to strategic planning to
  40. 1:32creative writing. And then when you have
  41. 1:34less energy, maybe like 3 or 4:00 in the
  42. 1:37afternoon, that's when you do meditation
  43. 1:40and go for a walk around the corner or
  44. 1:43just sit at your desk and breathe.
  45. 1:46>> I think that's such great advice,
  46. 1:47especially in the that mid-afternoon
  47. 1:48slump. I feel it every single day. But
  48. 1:50Misha, I also am curious, not all of us
  49. 1:52have flexible schedules. So, what do you
  50. 1:55do in order to build in that time for
  51. 1:56yourself when you don't get to have a
  52. 1:59say as much in your structure of your
  53. 2:00day?
  54. 2:03>> Absolutely. You know, it's all about
  55. 2:05building micro routines. That's where
  56. 2:08you are really focusing on things that
  57. 2:11can bring you joy, where you might not
  58. 2:13be able to get away from your desk. So,
  59. 2:15for me, I enjoy doodling. For others, it
  60. 2:18might be listening to your favorite
  61. 2:20podcast or listening to Beyonce or
  62. 2:23Taylor Swift on your uh phone. Or it
  63. 2:27might be as simple as just taking a
  64. 2:29breath. We take 24,000 breaths a day.
  65. 2:32And the average American is not
  66. 2:34connected to their breath work.
  67. 2:36>> I mean, it sounds like the importance of
  68. 2:38me time, right, is is very very
  69. 2:40critical. Oh yes. I
  70. 2:42>> I don't know if you feel this way,
  71. 2:43Nancy, or or you, Maisha, but I always
  72. 2:45struggle with creating boundaries and
  73. 2:48saying no and saying, you know, this is
  74. 2:50my me time. So, how do I do that better?
  75. 2:54>> So, here's the thing, right? As I said
  76. 2:57last time when we connected, how can you
  77. 2:59be good to others unless you're great to
  78. 3:01yourself first? And so, no is a complete
  79. 3:04sentence, and we're going to say it in
  80. 3:06different languages today. No in
  81. 3:08English, no in Japanese, dame. And no in
  82. 3:12Arabic, la. And there it is.
  83. 3:16>> Yet, no.
  84. 3:17>> It's just that simple.
  85. 3:19>> Let's just go through all the languages.
  86. 3:21You know, at the same time though, what
  87. 3:23signs are there that it might be time to
  88. 3:25re-evaluate your relationship with your
  89. 3:27work?
  90. 3:30>> Yes. So your relationship with your work
  91. 3:33is really finding joy and gratitude in
  92. 3:37what you do and then really tapping into
  93. 3:40your inner motivation. What motivates
  94. 3:42you when you get up in the morning?
  95. 3:44Adding your motivation with your value
  96. 3:46would add more joy and happiness in your
  97. 3:49life.
  98. 3:50>> I love that. Uh what is it? Winning
  99. 3:51Wednesday. The
  100. 3:53>> wellness wellness winning Wednesday. Uh
  101. 3:56Maisha Win. Thank you very much.
  102. 3:58>> Wellness Wednesday.
  103. 3:59>> We'll take it. Uh,
  104. 4:01>> it's tied into live to win, baby.
  105. 4:04>> Oh, I like that. We're going to live to
  106. 4:05win. Uh, thank you very much, Maisha.
