  1. 0:00do you want to animate like BFDIA I'm a
  2. 0:02BFDIA animator and I'm going to show you
  3. 0:05how we animate the characters I'll be
  4. 0:06teaching you how to pose them animate
  5. 0:08them lip sync and how to create custom
  6. 0:11assets like arms and mouths let's get
  7. 0:13into it part one setup first off we're
  8. 0:16going to go to BFDI dotv assets to
  9. 0:18download the BFDI assets and set up our
  10. 0:21character I'll be animating with pin the
  11. 0:23issue with the BFDI assets file is that
  12. 0:25the mouths are not in a symbol together
  13. 0:27that allow us to use frame picker to fix
  14. 0:29this issue
  15. 0:30simply place all of the mouths you want
  16. 0:32to use onto the stage select them all
  17. 0:35convert them to symbol select them
  18. 0:37inside the symbol and press distribute
  19. 0:39to key frames this will put all of the
  20. 0:41mouths on their own key frame as long as
  21. 0:43the symbol is a graphic you will be able
  22. 0:46to use frame picker to lip sync once you
  23. 0:48set up the character you can import the
  24. 0:50audio you'd like to use into the stage
  25. 0:52bubble your alliance is dead and besides
  26. 0:55we've got a lot in common now that we're
  27. 0:57all set up we can move on to part two
  28. 0:59posing before we begin I want to say I
  29. 1:02use a lot of keyboard shortcuts and you
  30. 1:04can too simply go to edit scroll down to
  31. 1:07keyboard shortcuts and you can create
  32. 1:09your own personally I use F9 to insert
  33. 1:12tween F6 to insert key frames shift
  34. 1:15period to flip horizontally shift
  35. 1:17question mark to flip vertically and F10
  36. 1:20to swap symbols these make my animation
  37. 1:22much faster and I highly recommend it
  38. 1:24moving on before I start using tween to
  39. 1:27create motions I like to create all of
  40. 1:29the poses and keepy key frames for each
  41. 1:30pose I think the character will make
  42. 1:32throughout their line another trick I
  43. 1:34use is to place these green lines inside
  44. 1:36the body of the character so I can keep
  45. 1:38their body matched up with their legs a
  46. 1:40character's legs should usually stay in
  47. 1:42the same place they were on a
  48. 1:44character's body but it's hard to keep
  49. 1:45track of that especially as a beginner
  50. 1:47also when I'm skewing the legs left and
  51. 1:49right like so I hold down the ALT key on
  52. 1:52my keyboard so the bottom of the feet
  53. 1:54don't move as well you can see I squash
  54. 1:56or stretch some of the limbs while I'm
  55. 1:58making these poses that keeps the Lim
  56. 2:00Dynamic and creates better poses which
  57. 2:02is a staple in BFD animation unlike the
  58. 2:05legs the arms can move slightly in and
  59. 2:07out of place here I move one arm across
  60. 2:10pin's entire body as long as it looks
  61. 2:12good to you anything goes now that all
  62. 2:14of our poses are created we can move on
  63. 2:17to part three inet inet or just tweens
  64. 2:20as we call them allow our characters to
  65. 2:22come to life by creating the movements
  66. 2:24in between key frames once you create
  67. 2:27this tween there are a ton of options
  68. 2:29for eases eases dictate how fast a
  69. 2:32character moves in and out of their
  70. 2:34movement I'm a fan of Court cubic and
  71. 2:37quad easin Court easin make the EAS in
  72. 2:40very fast and sharp which a lot of basic
  73. 2:42movements in BFDIA are for ease outs I
  74. 2:45primarily use quad ease outs which allow
  75. 2:47them to be very bouncy and soft for this
  76. 2:49first movement to her first pose we'll
  77. 2:51place a tween and make it a court ease
  78. 2:54in we can see both arms flip during this
  79. 2:56tween so we'll simply create key frames
  80. 2:59and drag them to the end and then move
  81. 3:01the arms ourselves how we think they
  82. 3:03should move next we're on to the
  83. 3:04secondary movement BFDIA uses a lot of
  84. 3:07recoils which is when a character moves
  85. 3:09and then bounces backward after as shown
  86. 3:12here what we're going to do to
  87. 3:13accomplish this is we'll place a key
  88. 3:15frame a few frames after this pose then
  89. 3:18we'll go back to that original pose and
  90. 3:20exaggerate it a little move pin a bit
  91. 3:22more upwards into the right but we won't
  92. 3:25rotate her recoils in BFDIA primarily
  93. 3:28have no change in r ation it makes the
  94. 3:30animation a bit punchier then we'll
  95. 3:32create another tween here and make it a
  96. 3:34quad ease out as a last step to make
  97. 3:37this movement more Punchy we're actually
  98. 3:39going to place a set of key frames right
  99. 3:41before this middle set of key frames and
  100. 3:43then make pin rotate a little less this
  101. 3:46creates a large difference between this
  102. 3:48key frame set and this key frame set
  103. 3:51which creates a huge punch that's how
  104. 3:53most movements operate in BFDIA as we
  105. 3:56continue this process of adding tweens
  106. 3:57and key frames you'll see that during a
  107. 3:59especially fast movements as shown here
  108. 4:02arms will begin to stretch this is
  109. 4:04called a smear frame and they're used
  110. 4:06often in BFDIA as it's a cartoonish way
  111. 4:08to show how fast a character is moving
  112. 4:10smear frames also help blend movements
  113. 4:13by making the transition from one arm to
  114. 4:14another seamless for any blinking you
  115. 4:17simply give the character closed eyes
  116. 4:19and when they open their eyes again
  117. 4:20stretch the eyes upward that's all there
  118. 4:22is to it for this movement when pin
  119. 4:24needs to look to her left we have to
  120. 4:26move this left eye manually so it's
  121. 4:29seamlessly ly disappears if we don't
  122. 4:31make our movements smooth they look
  123. 4:32really choppy we have to make everything
  124. 4:34kind of blend that's a huge part of BFD
  125. 4:37animation once the twins are all
  126. 4:39inserted the animation is complete
  127. 4:41except for part four lip sync lip
  128. 4:44syncing is a straightforward process you
  129. 4:46listen to the sound coming from the
  130. 4:48sound wave on your timeline and match
  131. 4:49that sound with the mouths available
  132. 4:51open mouths create sounds like ah a uh
  133. 4:54and I while closed mouths create M B and
  134. 4:58P sounds the closed teeth mouth is
  135. 5:00responsible for sounds like t s l t h CH
  136. 5:03H C and K and the O mouth is responsible
  137. 5:06for oo and O's the F mouth is only
  138. 5:08really responsible for f sounds you can
  139. 5:11go key frame by key frame and listen to
  140. 5:12every sound to place every mouth or you
  141. 5:15can use a process called reading the
  142. 5:17sound waves more experienced animators
  143. 5:19do this where you don't listen to the
  144. 5:20sound waves but read them by assuming
  145. 5:23which Peaks and valleys are attached to
  146. 5:25which syllable in the line although you
  147. 5:27most likely have to go back and edit the
  148. 5:28lip syncing to match this up perfectly
  149. 5:30it is still a quicker process than
  150. 5:32listening to every single frame of audio
  151. 5:35once the lip sync is complete your
  152. 5:36animation can be finished unless you
  153. 5:39want to create part five custom assets
  154. 5:42the most important part of custom assets
  155. 5:44is matching the style you can make any
  156. 5:46kind of mouth shape you want as long as
  157. 5:48the line thickness matches the other
  158. 5:50mouths and the shading and color I'm not
  159. 5:52a great artist so I just made this
  160. 5:53random happy smile mouth for pin the
  161. 5:55outline of the mouth is 2.4 as are the
  162. 5:58original mouths and the inner line is
  163. 6:001.5 then I used the eye drop tool on an
  164. 6:02old mouth to get the gray shading to put
  165. 6:04it on the new mouth and I also tried to
  166. 6:06shade it in the same spots the original
  167. 6:07had the mouth doesn't look great but it
  168. 6:10is in style as for limbs the same
  169. 6:12principle goes I used a line around 2.5
  170. 6:15to three to create the initial line and
  171. 6:17then I make sure the hand and fingers
  172. 6:18are the same size as the other hands in
  173. 6:20the file once I have a good shape I
  174. 6:22create the line to fill and make the
  175. 6:24beginning of the arm a little thinner
  176. 6:26and the end thicker much like the
  177. 6:27straight arm and the arm bent look you
  178. 6:29can play around with this and even
  179. 6:31create new hands but it's a simple
  180. 6:33process that adds more creativity and
  181. 6:35fun to your character's movements
  182. 6:37overall this is what the final animation
  183. 6:39looks like and I think it turned out
  184. 6:40pretty well thank you so much for
