How religion makes you mentally ill — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00And I got some bad news for you, buddy.
- 0:02Religion is probably making you mentally
- 0:04ill.
- 0:05You see, here's the problem. It all
- 0:07begins with identity. And identity is
- 0:10the filter from which you perceive the
- 0:12world.
- 0:13Now, there's something in your brain
- 0:14called an RAS, reticular activation
- 0:17system.
- 0:19But you can just think of it as a
- 0:21selective focus. For example, whatever
- 0:23identity you have filters the way you
- 0:25see the world. And what happens in
- 0:28religion is that it puts you in this
- 0:29little box. Now, the box itself isn't
- 0:32the problem.
- 0:33It's what you don't allow in the box
- 0:35that kills you. Think about the mind,
- 0:37for example.
- 0:38Like a knife. It's a cutting tool. You
- 0:41you remember the wheat and the chaff?
- 0:43The wheat goes over here and the chaff
- 0:45goes over here. The chaff is the stuff
- 0:47that nobody wants, the um mm, whatever.
- 0:50And so, your mind takes all the stuff
- 0:52that you think is good and puts it over
- 0:55here in the good box.
- 0:58And anything that's not good puts it
- 0:59over here in the bad box. Now, with
- 1:01religion, what does it do? It's
- 1:04basically telling you, "Hey, be good.
- 1:06Don't be bad cuz if you're bad, you're
- 1:08going to hell. You're going to get it.
- 1:10You're going to get a spanking from
- 1:11God." And then, of course, people
- 1:13struggle with that because they're like,
- 1:14"Well,
- 1:15I got these problems. I have these
- 1:17thoughts. I have these addictions.
- 1:20They're not in alignment with what I'm
- 1:22being told is the right thing to do."
- 1:25We be We become conditioned. Religion
- 1:28tells us, "This is how you should be if
- 1:29you want to live a good life."
- 1:31And of course, there's truth to that.
- 1:34But the problem is
- 1:36human beings are full spectrum.
- 1:39Everybody has things about them that are
- 1:41dark.
- 1:43Everyone's got dark meat. And everyone's
- 1:45got light meat. You ever get that person
- 1:47at Thanksgiving?
- 1:49You put the the the white meat and the
- 1:50dark meat out.
- 1:52They're like, "Nah, I don't want I don't
- 1:53want no dark meat, bro." And you're
- 1:55like, "Come on, man.
- 1:57You don't like chicken thighs?"
- 1:58And she's like, "No, no,
- 2:00no." What religion does?
- 2:03It causes us
- 2:06to reject the darkness in our own
- 2:07selves, but the problem is you can't
- 2:09reject the darkness without also
- 2:10rejecting the light.
- 2:12Because darkness and light are just two
- 2:14opposites of the same one thing. So,
- 2:16with our identity, we claim this
- 2:18religious identity.
- 2:20And that causes us to selectively focus
- 2:22on only the things that either are in
- 2:25alignment with what we have selected
- 2:28or are not in alignment.
- 2:31And whatever is in alignment, we put in
- 2:32the good box. Yes, I'm going to keep
- 2:34that. This is who I am.
- 2:36And whatever is not in alignment, we
- 2:38reject and throw it out in the trash.
- 2:42And this is why you see people who judge
- 2:44non-religious people.
- 2:46Like the Westboro Baptist Church.
- 2:49They don't like gays because they are
- 2:50gay.
- 2:52Or you could say
- 2:54they've rejected the gay in themselves.
- 2:57But hey, man, everyone's gay once in a
- 2:58while.
- 2:59And the reason this makes you mentally
- 3:00ill is because it creates a split in
- 3:03your psyche, in your mind,
- 3:07where different parts of you are now at
- 3:09war with each other.
- 3:11Like a perfectly healthy human being
- 3:14who's psychically all right
- 3:17has all the little pieces of themselves
- 3:19focused in one direction. Everyone's on
- 3:21board. Everyone's on the same page. It's
- 3:23all good.
- 3:25But the more your psyche is split in
- 3:27these different directions, the more
- 3:29neurotic you are.
- 3:31And the more at war you will be all the
- 3:33time with yourself, and you will never
- 3:34be at peace. That's why you see a lot of
- 3:36religious people.
- 3:37It's like, we're striving to be at
- 3:39peace,
- 3:40but we're always being attacked by the
- 3:42enemy. And it's always the devil
- 3:43attacking us, right? And the devil is
- 3:46the reason we can't be at peace, right?
- 3:47Because he's creating suffering in our
- 3:49life. So, we're on this endless journey
- 3:51of trying to overcome the enemy and be
- 3:54free and strive toward God and be toward
- 3:56the light and reject all the darkness
- 3:58and run away from the earthly things,
- 4:00deny the flesh. Because we look at the
- 4:02people out there indulging in all their
- 4:05their their their compulsive pleasures
- 4:08and we're like,
- 4:09"No, that's not for me. I don't I'm like
- 4:12Khabib.
- 4:13Only fight, only wife,
- 4:17no sex and God.
- 4:19Very disciplined, very focused." And
- 4:21it's not that these things are bad, but
- 4:23think about the Muslim culture, for
- 4:25example.
- 4:27Why do women in that culture wear full
- 4:30body dresses where only their eyes are
- 4:32being seen?
- 4:34It's because men have repressed their
- 4:36sexuality because of the religion. And
- 4:39you can see the inevitable
- 4:42consequences of that in America. Because
- 4:44we have a lot of Christian values.
- 4:46>> [snorts]
- 4:47>> But like in the Victorian times, it was
- 4:49the same thing. People repressed their
- 4:51sexuality,
- 4:53but it was always there.
- 4:55And now when finally we create an
- 4:57environment where people are able to
- 4:59freely express themselves, what happens?
- 5:01Now they go wild. Girls gone wild.
- 5:05Why is this the case? Because when you
- 5:07put pressure
- 5:09on an instinct like sexuality,
- 5:12it's going to come back 10,000-fold
- 5:15and it's going to grip you from the
- 5:16underworld and pull you down, no matter
- 5:18how good you think you are.
- 5:20Like you have
- 5:22hundreds of millions of years of
- 5:23evolutionary instinct that don't care
- 5:26about your silly little moral beliefs.
- 5:29Which is why
- 5:31people experience so much suffering
- 5:34from religion. It's because they're
- 5:36fighting their body
- 5:37and they're fighting what they think is
- 5:39right.
- 5:41They're in conflict with who they think
- 5:43they are because they have things about
- 5:45them that aren't in alignment with this
- 5:47little box.
- 5:48You are life. You're not a You can't put
- 5:51life in a box. Have you not seen
- 5:52Jurassic Park? That was the whole movie.
- 5:55No matter how great you think you are in
- 5:56being a scientist and playing God,
- 6:00you cannot
- 6:02put nature, put life in a cage, and
- 6:05expect anything good to happen.
- 6:07And this is the reason why we suffer so
- 6:09much is because it's like putting a
- 6:11monkey in a tuxedo.
- 6:13You're wearing this tight tuxedo, and it
- 6:15sucks, and you hate it, but everyone's
- 6:17looking at you and saying, "Oh, look at
- 6:18the cute monkey." And taking pictures of
- 6:20you.
- 6:22And so you're like, "Oh, okay. Well, I'm
- 6:23getting attention. This is okay. I'm
- 6:24fitting in. This is okay, right? I can I
- 6:26can tolerate this for now."
- 6:29But you're like half dead. You're like a
- 6:31zombie. You're just like, "I'm just
- 6:33walking through life. Is this really all
- 6:36there is? I'm supposed to be on the
- 6:38godly path, but I feel like I feel like
- 6:42hell. Something's not right." It's
- 6:44because you're replacing the truth of
- 6:46what you are.
- 6:48That's what creates the sense of
- 6:49dissociation or not feeling alive.
- 6:53It's like there's the truth,
- 6:55and then there's your little ego
- 6:56suppressing the truth in the name of
- 6:58being a good person, being a certain
- 7:01kind of religious person. And the funny
- 7:03thing is God, if anything, is the truth.
- 7:06And so you actually sacrifice God for
- 7:08your little ego beliefs.
- 7:11And that is why Carl Jung said,
- 7:14"People follow religion so they can
- 7:16avoid having a direct experience of
- 7:19God." And you see this all the time with
- 7:21religious people. They go to church on
- 7:23Sundays, but they really It's just an
- 7:25ego mask that they wear.
- 7:27And you see their traits and their
- 7:29behavior patterns, and you're like,
- 7:30"Well, you don't really seem to be
- 7:31following what you preach, friend."
- 7:34And that's because it's not real.
- 7:35It's all fake. It's all ego nonsense.
- 7:37It's all identity.
- 7:39And you know someone's stuck in this is
- 7:41because
- 7:42and of course there's deeper levels
- 7:45but it's all about I'm right and you're
- 7:47wrong. So you see people who argue on
- 7:49social media in the comments and stuff
- 7:51like that. No, well you you just haven't
- 7:52found the right religion yet, man. We're
- 7:54the ones. We're the ones.
- 7:57And you try to convince somebody else
- 7:59and you try and persuade them to follow
- 8:01what you follow.
- 8:03But it's really just a survival
- 8:04mechanism, which is so funny. It's so
- 8:07funny to see because people are so into
- 8:09it, right? They're like No, who no, I'm
- 8:10this is the truth. And they don't
- 8:12realize that they're just being ran by
- 8:14automatic programming
- 8:16based on survival. For example
- 8:19this identity, this ego
- 8:22which I'm not saying is bad.
- 8:24It's like a little box from which we
- 8:25live our life.
- 8:27Imagine the ocean of chaos
- 8:29that is life. This is like our little
- 8:32sailboat, a little inflatable raft
- 8:36that keeps us afloat.
- 8:38It gives us a sense of direction.
- 8:40It orients us in the world, right?
- 8:42That's not a bad thing.
- 8:44But what happens?
- 8:45Somebody comes along
- 8:48who has a different boat
- 8:49a different way of looking at things, a
- 8:51different perspective
- 8:53different religion
- 8:56and these two people start communicating
- 8:58and it's like they're trying to stab
- 8:59each other's inflatable raft.
- 9:02My raft is good. Your raft is wrong. And
- 9:06what happens if you stab that raft?
- 9:08They start to sink. They get consumed by
- 9:10the ocean of chaos. It's like
- 9:13let's take an atheist for example,
- 9:14right? An atheist has little his little
- 9:16raft and then one day he has a
- 9:18transcendent experience of God.
- 9:21Well, now everything he's built his
- 9:23whole life
- 9:25upon
- 9:27now gets thrown out the window.
- 9:30Now he doesn't know what to believe.
- 9:31Like Ram Dass for example
- 9:33he used to be a professor at Harvard
- 9:36and he used to be very much in the world
- 9:38and science and logic and reasoning.
- 9:41Then he started taking psychedelics.
- 9:43And everything he knew about himself
- 9:45began to fall apart and he went on this
- 9:46big spiritual journey and found a guru
- 9:48and
- 9:49became this great spiritual teacher.
- 9:52Because eventually he realized, well,
- 9:53this isn't actually a safety raft. Sure,
- 9:56it helps keep you afloat, but it's also
- 9:59leaking. It gives you a temporary sense
- 10:01of safety
- 10:03because the truth is our ego identity is
- 10:05always changing. It's not reliable. It's
- 10:07like building your house on sand. It's
- 10:09moving all the time and it's not very
- 10:11It's a bad foundation.
- 10:13So, what do people do? They desperately
- 10:14hold on to this raft for dear life and
- 10:16anybody who comes around it and says,
- 10:18"No, your raft is not, you know, it's
- 10:20not actually helping you."
- 10:22They attack [snorts] the other person.
- 10:23And you know this is the case for you if
- 10:25you get triggered about religion.
- 10:27And it's really easy to get triggered
- 10:29about religion, isn't it?
- 10:30And mostly everybody does.
- 10:33Whether you're an atheist or any kind of
- 10:35religion, if you get triggered, it means
- 10:37you're holding on for dear life to this
- 10:38ego identity.
- 10:40Because if you were not attached
- 10:43to that identity, there would be no
- 10:45emotional charge attached to it.
- 10:47Which means that you wouldn't care what
- 10:49people say.
- 10:50And so, people get caught in this trap
- 10:52of sacrificing the truth for their own
- 10:54ego identity.
- 10:56And that basically
- 10:58begins rotting them away.
- 11:00Because the truth is life. And the more
- 11:02you're separated from life and truth,
- 11:03the closer you grow to
- 11:05So, what is the solution here?
- 11:07It's simple.
- 11:09You look at the identity that you've
- 11:10claimed
- 11:12and the traits that you find virtuous,
- 11:15that you want for yourself.
- 11:18You can ask yourself, who do you look up
- 11:19to?
- 11:21And you start writing down their traits.
- 11:24And you start asking yourself, what are
- 11:25your strengths? What do you hold as
- 11:27valuable?
- 11:29What are your values? You also look at
- 11:31what you're attached to.
- 11:32And you know what you're attached to
- 11:33based on what triggers you
- 11:35or what creates energy and also what you
- 11:39judge. What are the traits in others
- 11:42that you judge as bad or as wrong? And
- 11:45then what do you do?
- 11:46You make a second list of the opposite
- 11:49traits. So I guess in this case when you
- 11:51judge, you write what are the things
- 11:53that you judge other people for.
- 11:55Those so-called negative traits. What
- 11:57are the things that trigger you
- 11:59specifically about other people? What
- 12:01are the opposite of what you value?
- 12:04And of course what are your weaknesses?
- 12:06And what you begin to do is you begin to
- 12:07integrate the opposite energy, the
- 12:09opposite traits. Because so long as
- 12:12you're attached to one end of the
- 12:13spectrum,
- 12:14you become neurotic
- 12:16and you create serious problems in your
- 12:18life.
- 12:20>> [snorts]
- 12:20>> Like for example, let's take you're
- 12:22someone who follows a religion like
- 12:25Christianity or Islam.
- 12:27Well, most people on that side of the
- 12:29spectrum
- 12:30are sexually repressed because of course
- 12:33it values abstinence and celibacy and
- 12:37don't flirt and don't
- 12:39um
- 12:40don't do all that stuff.
- 12:43Because
- 12:44it's a sin
- 12:46and you're going to get punished. And so
- 12:47you say, "Okay, well, I'm going to be
- 12:49celibate or I'm going to find a wife.
- 12:50I'm going to do this. I'm going to do
- 12:52that."
- 12:54And you don't [snorts] realize that
- 12:55the modern world is going to eat you up
- 12:58and spit you out. Not only the modern
- 12:59world, but your biology itself that was
- 13:02God created, right?
- 13:04God created you and your biology
- 13:07and your fleshy nature.
- 13:09And so you would assume that
- 13:11well,
- 13:13why would God want you to just reject it
- 13:14and throw it out the the window?
- 13:16This is what happens with people who are
- 13:19either not mature or just beginning on
- 13:22the spiritual path.
- 13:24They just take things that they hear and
- 13:25they say, "Okay, I'm going to do it this
- 13:27way. But what happens?
- 13:29You end up being a sexual deviant
- 13:30anyway.
- 13:33Have you not heard of the Catholic
- 13:34Church?
- 13:35Why do they have the reputation they
- 13:37have?
- 13:38It's because
- 13:40as a little monk
- 13:42little monkey, bald monkey
- 13:45you think you can just get rid of these
- 13:46instincts and there's not going to be
- 13:48any consequences.
- 13:50You think you can just devote yourself
- 13:51to a life of celibacy
- 13:53and the
- 13:55you know, 30,000 lb T-Rex inside you is
- 13:57just going to stand by and
- 13:59yeah, okay. Yeah, go ahead. Yeah.
- 14:02It's not how this works.
- 14:04And so what? The sexual instinct gets
- 14:06repressed and then it just comes back as
- 14:08a deformed monster and destroys the host
- 14:12and you may have experienced this with
- 14:13yourself.
- 14:14Having these sexual addictions.
- 14:16If that's the case for you. But it also
- 14:18goes for any anything. Like you ever try
- 14:21to fast
- 14:22and then
- 14:24you end up just indulging in a whole
- 14:25bunch of food, you self-sabotage.
- 14:28Same kind of reason.
- 14:29And you look at the people of the world
- 14:32who are indulging in all of these
- 14:33pleasures and you kind of almost you
- 14:36sometimes get jealous. You're like, why
- 14:37can't I enjoy these things of the world?
- 14:40I'm trying to be spiritual. I'm trying
- 14:41to do the right thing.
- 14:43They seemed to be getting all the
- 14:45rewards.
- 14:46The evil people seem to be the most
- 14:48successful. What's going on here?
- 14:50And then the good people struggle their
- 14:51whole lives
- 14:52to barely make anything to barely
- 14:55make ends meet.
- 14:57What is happening here? Well, what's
- 14:59happening is the mind. Because the
- 15:01playing ground of life is fundamentally
- 15:03neutral.
- 15:04There are rules of the game, you could
- 15:06say.
- 15:08And the only thing that matters is
- 15:09whether or not you are in alignment with
- 15:11those rules or not.
- 15:13And the rule of life is
- 15:16can you guess?
- 15:18I'll give you a moment.
- 15:21I feel like we're Dora the Explorer.
- 15:24>> [snorts]
- 15:25>> The rule of life is balance, which means
- 15:27that if you reject the earthly for the
- 15:29heavenly, you have become out of balance
- 15:32and it will create many problems in your
- 15:33life.
- 15:34And if you reject the the earthly or the
- 15:37heavenly for the earthly, you're still
- 15:38going to experience the same problems
- 15:40because you're out of balance.
- 15:41Only when you accept and integrate both
- 15:44aspects equally,
- 15:46do you enter into a state of harmony and
- 15:48balance
- 15:49and any problem that was created from
- 15:51the imbalance goes away.
- 15:54For example,
- 15:56if you want to be a religious person,
- 15:58you also have to be in touch with your
- 16:00sexuality.
- 16:02Doesn't mean you have to go out and
- 16:03indulge endlessly,
- 16:05but that was the whole reason they were
- 16:06talking about marriage in the first
- 16:08place. Marriage was supposed to be a
- 16:11safe container for you to express those
- 16:14instincts, but people get all neurotic
- 16:16and then they just run wild with it.
- 16:19And then they just suppressing their
- 16:20sexual instincts. And so, in this case,
- 16:23you get a lot of shame around sexuality.
- 16:25And what does that do? It just brings
- 16:27you down to hell.
- 16:28Makes you suffer. Makes you do stupid
- 16:30things. And so, to return to balance,
- 16:32you integrate it. You realize that
- 16:34there's nothing wrong with being an
- 16:35earthly human being. That's what you
- 16:37are. That's the truth. It's part of you.
- 16:40And you can't reject any one of the
- 16:41parts without also rejecting the whole.
- 16:44So, it's a learning how to accept your
- 16:46earthly nature. The part of you that
- 16:48wants to indulge and be lazy or do this
- 16:52or do that.
- 16:53But your identity is saying, "No, these
- 16:55are bad things. The book tells me these
- 16:57are bad things."
- 16:59But it's yet a part of your truth. So,
- 17:01what do you do?
- 17:03That makes me bad. The book tells me
- 17:05these things are bad, those things are
- 17:06part of me, that means I'm bad.
- 17:09That's what makes you neurotic.
- 17:11Because you don't have the wisdom,
- 17:13the discernment [snorts]
- 17:14to understand what they were talking
- 17:16about.
- 17:17That's why sometimes
- 17:19reading these religious texts do more
- 17:21harm than good.
- 17:23Because if you don't have the wisdom
- 17:25to understand what they're talking
- 17:27about, you're just going to use it for
- 17:28your own little ego desires and not only
- 17:32create problems in yourself, but create
- 17:34hell for everyone around you because
- 17:35they have to listen to you and your
- 17:36nonsense.
- 17:38Not you specifically, but you've I'm
- 17:40sure you've seen these kinds of people.
- 17:42It's like the people on the streets with
- 17:43the megaphones talking about
- 17:45um
- 17:47repent or perish. Talking about the end
- 17:49of days. If that's not mental illness, I
- 17:52don't know what is. And you can see how
- 17:54tricky this can be because
- 17:56there's a lot of earthly things that we
- 17:59claim as bad. Like let's take discipline
- 18:02for example. We say discipline is good.
- 18:04Discipline is
- 18:06holy.
- 18:07Discipline is right. You want to be
- 18:09disciplined. You don't want to be lazy.
- 18:11But what does that happen and what does
- 18:12that do to your psyche?
- 18:15You learn that resting and relaxing is
- 18:18not safe
- 18:19because
- 18:21you are conditioned into believing that
- 18:23discipline is good, discipline is right
- 18:25and so you take that on as an identity,
- 18:27so you try and be as disciplined as
- 18:28possible.
- 18:29But then you reject the opposite. You
- 18:31throw the baby out with the bathwater.
- 18:33Why have you done this?
- 18:35Which is
- 18:36you reject the laziness, but you also
- 18:38reject the relaxation.
- 18:41Doing nothing.
- 18:42Allowing yourself to just be as you are
- 18:45and not do anything. And so anytime you
- 18:47try and relax and do nothing,
- 18:50you start to feel guilty.
- 18:51You feel like, oh, I got to do
- 18:52something. I got to feel
- 18:54and then
- 18:56your whole self-worth is
- 18:58determined by what you do.
- 19:00And so unless you're doing something,
- 19:01you don't feel worthy.
- 19:05And yet God has already given you the
- 19:06whole kingdom of infinite abundance
- 19:08without you needing to do anything. So
- 19:10we get in this
- 19:11neurotic ego holding pattern that says,
- 19:14"Well, I'm going to work harder and then
- 19:15I'll finally get what I deserve."
- 19:18Only until I work really hard can I one
- 19:20day get what I want
- 19:23because then I'll finally deserve it.
- 19:26But, it's all just ego nonsense. You
- 19:28don't have to do anything to deserve
- 19:29anything. Cuz fundamentally
- 19:32you are already perfect now.
- 19:34If you were created by God and God is
- 19:36perfect
- 19:37it means that God cannot create an
- 19:39imperfect creation, which means that the
- 19:41universe and everything in it is already
- 19:42perfect. But, what does your ego little
- 19:45mind do? It says, "No, look at all of
- 19:46these things that are imperfect. Look at
- 19:48all the suffering. Look at all the pain.
- 19:49Look at my own life. Look at all the
- 19:50things that I struggle with. I'm not
- 19:52perfect. I make mistakes. Only Jesus is
- 19:55perfect.
- 19:57Only these enlightened masters are
- 19:58perfect."
- 20:00But, that's not true. They just
- 20:02reflected back the perfect perfection in
- 20:05all of us so that
- 20:08you can see what that looks like.
- 20:11Because most people can't see it in
- 20:13themselves, they have to see it in
- 20:14somebody else.
- 20:15That's why
- 20:18like a lot of these ideas like you're
- 20:19just a filthy sinner
- 20:21it creates neurotic human beings
- 20:23and it's against God. Who would have
- 20:25thought?
- 20:26Why is it against God?
- 20:29First of all
- 20:30I think these ideas
- 20:33like being a filthy sinner, or not being
- 20:35good enough, and we all fall short of
- 20:36the glory of God
- 20:38most people aren't wise enough to
- 20:41understand that, what that means.
- 20:45And so, they just kind of take it on the
- 20:46surface level and say, "Okay, well, I'm
- 20:48bad. I'm not good enough." And that is
- 20:50what is against God.
- 20:53Which is why I said, again, the ego will
- 20:55take these religious teachings and
- 20:57manipulate them and warp them for their
- 20:59own personal gain.
- 21:02And then spread misinformation and lies
- 21:04to the world corrupting everyone around
- 21:07them. Making everyone mentally ill.
- 21:10And so the truth
- 21:11is in both
- 21:13integrated together.
- 21:15The darkness
- 21:16and the light.
- 21:18And this is the greatest problem.
- 21:21It's It's because if you're religious,
- 21:23you're at least trying to be a good
- 21:24person, right? Which you associate with
- 21:26the light. The light is good, the dark
- 21:28is bad. So you want to get rid of the
- 21:29darkness.
- 21:32And yet you as a human being have
- 21:33darkness, so you get rid of parts of
- 21:34yourself, it doesn't work.
- 21:37You just create
- 21:39massive problems unconsciously. While at
- 21:42the same time thinking that you're being
- 21:44a good person. Again, the microphone
- 21:46people, they think they're being a good
- 21:47person.
- 21:48But they're really just uh slave to the
- 21:50forces of darkness. And so we want to
- 21:52become aware of our attachments. Where
- 21:54do we get triggered? Where do we judge?
- 21:57So that we can begin integrating the
- 21:59opposite energy. Like a great example is
- 22:02um Andrew Tate. Why did Andrew Tate
- 22:05become famous? The most Googled person
- 22:07on the planet at one point.
- 22:09It's because he reflected the shadow
- 22:13of millions and millions of people.
- 22:16The things that they didn't want to look
- 22:17at. The things they wouldn't didn't want
- 22:19to see in them themselves, you see?
- 22:23>> [snorts]
- 22:23>> And so he triggered that.
- 22:25He triggered that strong emotion
- 22:29of judgment. Basically, he just
- 22:31triggered a whole bunch of people
- 22:33by just being himself. Because whatever
- 22:36you don't look at in yourself, you will
- 22:38get triggered back at by others, you
- 22:40see?
- 22:41And so your triggers are your teachers.
- 22:43But we get so caught up on the surface
- 22:44level. It's like, "No, I don't like
- 22:45them. I don't like this. I don't like
- 22:47that."
- 22:48Remain a slave to the ego. Same thing
- 22:51with fighting with other religions. Your
- 22:54religion is wrong. Look at all the
- 22:55evidence that I have. I'm going to quote
- 22:57all of the evidence of your holy book
- 23:00that proves that yours is wrong and uh
- 23:02mine is right. And yet, then wouldn't
- 23:04you think that God also created the
- 23:06other religions so that mhm different
- 23:08target audiences could actually
- 23:10understand?
- 23:11But again, it's just a survival
- 23:12mechanism. I have to be right because if
- 23:14I'm not right, then I don't know what is
- 23:16true. And if I don't know what is true,
- 23:18then I'm a then I'm I'm exposed to the
- 23:20infinite chaos of reality.
- 23:22So, I'm going to
- 23:23fight tooth and nail to reaffirm what I
- 23:25want and reject anything that comes into
- 23:27conflict with that. So, over time you
- 23:29become more wise.
- 23:31You develop a greater power of
- 23:32discernment. You begin listening to the
- 23:34other person.
- 23:35And instead of trying to just dismantle
- 23:37their argument,
- 23:39you try to dismantle your own argument.
- 23:41And you try to fight for their argument.
- 23:44Now, what does this mean?
- 23:45And why?
- 23:47It's because you already believe in what
- 23:50you believe. You don't need any more
- 23:51belief.
- 23:53In fact, you need to try and destroy
- 23:55that belief.
- 23:57Because if you believe the wrong things,
- 23:59you would want to know that, would you
- 24:01not, if you were actually trying to find
- 24:02the truth? Which is what religion is
- 24:04supposed to be.
- 24:06So, instead you ask, well, how is their
- 24:08religion right and how is mine wrong?
- 24:10How are they right and how am I wrong?
- 24:12And guess what? If you can't build an
- 24:15argument and you have a serious you you
- 24:17you attempt it seriously,
- 24:19well, then you must know that you're
- 24:20pretty
- 24:22you're pretty much aligned with the
- 24:22truth, at least for the most part.
- 24:25And that helps you from being so stuck
- 24:26in your ways. And it heals you. This is
- 24:29how you heal that neurotic holding
- 24:31pattern
- 24:33of having the the split in your psyche.
- 24:36The being too attached to one end and
- 24:39rejecting the other.
- 24:41Being too heavenly and rejecting the
- 24:43earthly.
- 24:44People on the spiritual path do this all
- 24:45the time.
- 24:47I'm going to be all love and light, but
- 24:49uh I can't take out the trash.
- 24:51And so, it is in
- 24:54balancing the parts of ourselves that we
- 24:56have rejected
- 24:58with the parts of ourselves that we have
- 24:59accepted, which allows us to enter into
- 25:02divine union,
- 25:04which brings us closer to the truth and
- 25:06therefore closer to God and restores
- 25:09harmony in our life because God created
- 25:12the heavens and the earth, which means
- 25:14that the earth isn't bad and you got to
- 25:16reject it and you spend your whole life
- 25:17trying to get out of the earth.
- 25:19Oh, it's the Archons, they have enslaved
- 25:21us.
- 25:23We are stuck here on this prison planet.
- 25:26Forget about it.
- 25:28It's the flat earth, forget about it.
- 25:30That's That's mental illness right
- 25:31there. Flat earth.
- 25:34No offense, but I'm trying to offend you
- 25:36because it's mental illness.
- 25:38And it's also as simple as
- 25:42Think about for example
- 25:44philosophy and reason
- 25:47and thinking.
- 25:49A lot of people really like thinking
- 25:50about things, thinking about the
- 25:52philosophy of religion and everything in
- 25:54general.
- 25:55And yet, a lot of these people don't
- 25:57actually take action in the real life.
- 25:59And so the cure for the thinking-minded
- 26:01person is to take more action, get more
- 26:03into their body, feel more.
- 26:06And the cure for the feeling person is
- 26:08to think more.
- 26:09Because we all have these strengths and
- 26:11these weaknesses,
- 26:13some from biology, from nature, and some
- 26:16from nurture, from our outer
- 26:17environment, and that will create
- 26:19imbalances in ourselves because we're
- 26:21attached to certain things, certain ways
- 26:23of being, and that's called karma.
- 26:26And that karma causes us to express
- 26:28ourselves in ways that either promote
- 26:30harmony and love and joy and abundance
- 26:32or create pain and suffering.
- 26:35So you can look at the pain and
- 26:37suffering in your life
- 26:38and you begin to understand, oh, I must
- 26:40have some karmic attachment associated
- 26:42with this. And
- 26:46often times,
- 26:48if you're spiritual
- 26:50or religious in nature,
- 26:52it has to do with the attachment to the
- 26:54heavenly, the spiritual, and rejection
- 26:56of the earthly. So what do you do? You
- 26:58do more earthly things. It's like, can
- 27:01you have a conversation with someone
- 27:03without making it spiritual?
- 27:05Or without talking about God?
- 27:07And you might say, well, it's good to
- 27:08talk about God, right? I should talk I
- 27:10should spread the gospel to the people
- 27:12around me so they are saved, their souls
- 27:14are saved.
- 27:15Not always. Not always.
- 27:18That's why I think it was Jesus who
- 27:20said, don't cast pearls before the
- 27:21swine.
- 27:23Why did he say this? It's because you
- 27:26wanting to talk about God all the time
- 27:28is your own neurotic holding pattern,
- 27:30disguised as virtue.
- 27:33And yet people cannot hear you
- 27:36because it's a neurotic holding pattern.
- 27:40And so it comes across as,
- 27:43okay, buddy. Have fun with that.
- 27:46And so what is the the purpose of what
- 27:48you do?
- 27:50You push away most people who are not in
- 27:52that realm,
- 27:53but at least you get to feel good about
- 27:55yourself, right?
- 27:56At least you get to feel like you're
- 27:57doing the right thing.
- 27:58And yet if you approached life as a
- 28:01normal human being
- 28:04and talked to people as normal human
- 28:06beings, guess what? You would resonate
- 28:08with them.
- 28:10And they would be open to hearing
- 28:12what you actually have to say.
- 28:14Otherwise,
- 28:16it's just this, oh, I get to feel good
- 28:17about myself because I'm better than
- 28:19you, kind of thing. Even though that's
- 28:21the quiet part said out loud,
- 28:24it's what's actually happening. Because
- 28:28we get a sense of identity based on
- 28:32the relationship between ourselves and
- 28:34those around us.
- 28:36So in order for you to claim an
- 28:39identity,
- 28:40you have to judge. For example, if you
- 28:43want to be a hero,
- 28:45you have to have a villain.
- 28:48The villain
- 28:50gives meaning to the hero. That's why in
- 28:52the Batman movie, The Dark Knight,
- 28:54the Joker says
- 28:56in response to Batman. Batman says,
- 28:59"Why do you want to kill me?" And And
- 29:00the Joker says, "Kill you? No. No, I
- 29:03wouldn't do that.
- 29:04You complete me."
- 29:07There is no Batman without the Joker.
- 29:10And there's no Joker without the Batman.
- 29:12The game is in the dynamic between the
- 29:14two.
- 29:15And so, if you try and be the hero, you
- 29:18will always attract the villain into
- 29:19your life. And of course, things like
- 29:22the Bible give you a convenient out.
- 29:25Oh, the villain is the devil. He's all
- 29:27the bad guy. Convenient for you to
- 29:29project all of your negativity and
- 29:30darkness onto somebody else.
- 29:33That's very virtuous of you, don't you
- 29:34think?
- 29:35Don't you think that
- 29:37to burden
- 29:38another being
- 29:40with all of the evil in the universe,
- 29:42that's like the most virtuous thing you
- 29:44could do, right?
- 29:45It's all their fault. It's all them.
- 29:48And you get to be the nice little hero,
- 29:50feeling good, being virtuous, being the
- 29:52hero.
- 29:53But what does a healthy version of this
- 29:55look like?
- 29:56Well, you begin to see
- 29:57that duality is an illusion.
- 30:00It's like saying up is different than
- 30:02down. Or like the head side of a coin
- 30:05is separate from the tails.
- 30:09You can't have up without down. You
- 30:11can't have down without up. They are
- 30:12linked because they're not two separate
- 30:14things. They're just two opposites of
- 30:16one thing. Equal in value and opposite
- 30:19in degree. Same thing with the hero and
- 30:21the villain. They're not separate. Same
- 30:23thing with
- 30:25Jesus and Satan. They're not separate.
- 30:28But it's that illusion of separation
- 30:30>> [snorts]
- 30:30>> which they talked about in the Garden of
- 30:32Eden, do you remember this?
- 30:33That creates the split in our psyche.
- 30:36It's our developed intelligence, the
- 30:38mind that acts like a sword that cuts
- 30:40apart reality and puts things in boxes
- 30:42and com- compartmentalizes things.
- 30:46Which is necessary, but it also comes
- 30:49with massive problems. And so,
- 30:53what is healing?
- 30:54What frees us from this mental illness?
- 30:58Is
- 30:59rising up from duality into unity
- 31:03and integrating the opposites in
- 31:05ourselves.
- 31:07Not rejecting the villain, not rejecting
- 31:09the dark, not rejecting the earthly,
- 31:12but taking a little piece of it
- 31:14and
- 31:15becoming it. Like you don't want to
- 31:17become the whole villain,
- 31:19but you want to be able
- 31:22to be like the villain a little bit.
- 31:25You take a piece of what you hate and
- 31:27you integrate it into yourself.
- 31:30You don't become the whole thing because
- 31:31then you're just falling to the other
- 31:32side. But think about how difficult that
- 31:34is.
- 31:35Everything you know, your whole identity
- 31:38is telling you this is wrong. This is
- 31:39terrible.
- 31:41And overall, generally, it may be.
- 31:44And yet,
- 31:46if you want to live in balance and in
- 31:48wholeness,
- 31:50you must take that, a small part of it,
- 31:53and become it. Like for example, if
- 31:56you're just a nice religious person
- 31:59and you don't want much and you're
- 32:00humble,
- 32:01well, what happens is that the evil
- 32:04people of the world just enslave you and
- 32:07your family. And then, what good was all
- 32:09that?
- 32:10Sure, you may experience the fruits in
- 32:13the afterlife, but in this life, you and
- 32:17everybody you love suffers miserably.
- 32:19But guess what?
- 32:20If, as the hero, you had a little bit of
- 32:22that villain in you, you wouldn't allow
- 32:25something like that to happen.
- 32:27Because you would know what they're
- 32:29like.
- 32:31You would think a little bit like them.
- 32:33You would behave a little bit like them.
- 32:35You would stand up. You wouldn't
- 32:37tolerate. You would have strong
- 32:39boundaries.
- 32:41So, you wouldn't be taken advantage of.
- 32:44That's why being nice is not a virtue.
- 32:46Being nice is just nice. That's why
- 32:48Jordan Peterson said you should be a
- 32:50monster and learn how to tame it.
- 32:52It's the exact same thing he was kind of
- 32:54talking about. And this is what people
- 32:56who have
- 32:57become religious
- 32:58have lost about true religion.
- 33:01Cuz there's a story long, long time ago.
- 33:03I think it was during the Crusades.
- 33:06And there was this group of Christians.
- 33:09And some evil force was coming
- 33:12to pillage, right?
- 33:14And instead of running away, they stood
- 33:15their ground at like a church or
- 33:17something. And so the the dark evil
- 33:19forces came.
- 33:21And they said,
- 33:24I don't know what they said. "We're
- 33:25going to kill you all and you better
- 33:27leave. We'll give you one last chance."
- 33:29And they said, "No, we're here.
- 33:31Kill us if you have to,
- 33:33but we are standing
- 33:35for what we believe in."
- 33:37And so they were all massacred. But
- 33:39think about the courage that it takes to
- 33:40do something like that. True religion,
- 33:43the true spiritual path
- 33:46is really only for warriors.
- 33:48It's not for people who can't
- 33:51handle
- 33:52suffering and pain. It's not made for
- 33:54people who are cowardly. It's not made
- 33:56for people who are nice. It's made for
- 33:58only the most powerful human beings.
- 34:01Because you have to go through this
- 34:02process of dissolving
- 34:06and reintegrating. This alchemical
- 34:08journey. Finding your weaknesses.
- 34:12That which creates suffering in your
- 34:13life, the imbalances.
- 34:15And you look
- 34:17at where you're falling short and you
- 34:19begin integrating that.
- 34:22You look at your enemy.
- 34:23And you don't become your enemy,
- 34:26but you take a piece of them and
- 34:27integrate it into yourself. That's why
- 34:29we love
- 34:31superheroes like Batman.
- 34:33He's a hero, but he's also kind of the
- 34:35villain.
- 34:36The dark side of the hero.
- 34:38Carl Jung once said,
- 34:40"What you are looking for is where you
- 34:43least want to look. The pain, the
- 34:46suffering, the problems."
- 34:48If you want to know what God is calling
- 34:51you to do,
- 34:52look at the suffering in your life. Look
- 34:55at the problems.
- 34:57You might think that
- 34:59God's calling for you
- 35:02is grand and it's amazing.
- 35:05It's this big dream, this big vision.
- 35:08But you might not realize that God's
- 35:10plan is fulfilled by doing what's in
- 35:13front of you.
- 35:15By facing the darkness, by facing the
- 35:17problems.
- 35:18And reflecting and realizing, "Hmm,
- 35:20well, where
- 35:22who who is call who is life calling me
- 35:24to become in this moment?" Because this
- 35:26is what will happen to you.
- 35:28Life will put pressure on you
- 35:30and it will call you
- 35:32to become somebody new.
- 35:34And if you can't do that,
- 35:38the pain will get worse and worse and
- 35:39worse until you die. But if you can rise
- 35:42up,
- 35:44you grow a little bit closer to the
- 35:45truth, a little bit closer to God
- 35:48because you're becoming whole.
- 35:51And all you have to do to discover,
- 35:53"Well, what's the next step in my
- 35:55spiritual journey? What do I do? How do
- 35:57I become mentally free?"
- 35:59And it's like the story of the Knights
- 36:00of the Round Table.
- 36:03One day, the knights
- 36:06were in search of the Holy Grail, the
- 36:08cup from which Jesus drank
- 36:11while he was being crucified.
- 36:13I think. Holy cup. And eventually they
- 36:17stumbled upon a dark forest.
- 36:20They all said to themselves,
- 36:23"We'll enter the dark forest at the
- 36:24place that seems darkest to us. If you
- 36:27want to find
- 36:29God, the truth, your soul, the true
- 36:32self,
- 36:34if you want to find your dream life,
- 36:35everything you've ever desired, the joy,
- 36:37the love, the abundance,
- 36:39it is found
- 36:41in the dirt and the mud in the place you
- 36:44least want to look. And if you're too
- 36:46attached to the spiritual or the
- 36:47heavenly
- 36:49or the good, you're you're going to
- 36:51avoid going there
- 36:54because you're going to say, "Well, no,
- 36:56that's wrong. I shouldn't be there."
- 36:58If I'm spiritual, I should be feeling
- 37:00good. I should be feeling joy. I should
- 37:01be at peace. But you can't have peace
- 37:03without war.
- 37:05You can't have love without loss and
- 37:07pain and suffering.
- 37:09And so, if you avoid the pain and
- 37:10suffering, you also can't have the love.
- 37:12If you avoid the war, you can't have the
- 37:14peace because they're not opposite and
- 37:16they're not
- 37:18separate. They're opposites. You can't
- 37:20reject one without also rejecting the
- 37:22other.
- 37:24And so, it's beginning to see that life
- 37:26is already perfect now.
- 37:28Darkness is equally as valuable as the
- 37:31light because they both equally
- 37:33contribute to the truth, to wholeness.
- 37:35So, you stop judging things that happen
- 37:38to you as bad
- 37:40and you start to see them as part of the
- 37:42perfection of all things.
- 37:44You stop rejecting the parts of yourself
- 37:46that you see as bad and that you judge
- 37:48or that you judge in others
- 37:51and you just begin to free yourself from
- 37:53the illusion
- 37:55because you see that the judgment
- 37:57creates separation and the separation
- 37:58creates suffering. You dive into
- 38:00ignorance and that ignorance separates
- 38:03you from truth, love, joy, God.
- 38:07And so, you begin paying attention. Oh,
- 38:08where am I attached to ignorance? Where
- 38:11am I attached to separation?
- 38:13And you make a point to integrate the
- 38:15opposites. Return back to unity. Return
- 38:18back to wholeness.
- 38:19And you will feel
- 38:21when you are on that path.
- 38:24Not only from the relief of the
- 38:26suffering
- 38:27that the imbalance creates, but also
- 38:30from the joy of growing closer to God,
- 38:32feeling like you're doing God's will,
- 38:34you're you're
- 38:35on the right path. But you have to
- 38:38understand that there is no evil villain
- 38:40out to get you. There is no devil.
- 38:44There is only God's left hand and right
- 38:46hand.
- 38:48It's all God. God is the one pushing you
- 38:50down and God is the one pulling you up.
- 38:54Because there is only one.
- 38:56But if you perceive the devil to be
- 38:58something separate attacking you, you're
- 39:00going to be stuck in this neurotic
- 39:01holding pattern. And that's how you
- 39:03allow the fear in and the worry in.
- 39:06Because if you believe there's a
- 39:07separate force, well, then it can
- 39:09manipulate you and it can do something.
- 39:11But once you realize there's only one
- 39:13power,
- 39:14well, that's fear begins to fall away.
- 39:17That's why I don't really talk about
- 39:18demons anymore because it's illusion.
- 39:21It's ignorance.
- 39:23On the surface, are there evil forces,
- 39:26psychic forces out manipulating things?
- 39:29Yes, there are.
- 39:31But on a higher truth, there's still
- 39:32only one,
- 39:34which is why every bad situation, every
- 39:36negative thing that happens to you
- 39:39can either be used for good
- 39:41or it can be used to destroy you based
- 39:43on how you perceive it. If you remain in
- 39:46ignorance and in separation, it will
- 39:47destroy you.
- 39:48But if you begin to see the perfection
- 39:51of it all,
- 39:52that good and evil are equally
- 39:54important,
- 39:56then you can use what happens to you
- 39:59for your highest spiritual growth.
- 40:01Because in the darkness, in the mud, in
- 40:03the pain and the suffering, that's where
- 40:04all the spiritual nutrients are. But
- 40:07again,
- 40:09if you're too cowardly to walk into that
- 40:10forest,
- 40:12you'll never find the riches. That is
- 40:14why Jesus said, "Don't live a lukewarm
- 40:15life because you won't you will taste
- 40:18neither the fruits of heaven or the
- 40:20fruits of earth. You will not be a hero
- 40:22nor a villain.
- 40:24You'll be some secondary background
- 40:26character
- 40:28with little meaning in their life. And
- 40:30the best place to start is feel.
- 40:34Where are you excited? What triggers
- 40:37you? What creates pain? What creates
- 40:39suffering?
- 40:40And you just begin like a scientist with
- 40:41curiosity
- 40:43with a magnifying glass just looking at
- 40:45it,
- 40:46reflecting.
- 40:47Why does this excite me?
- 40:49Why do I feel pulled in this direction?
- 40:52Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong.
- 40:53Doesn't matter if it's good or bad.
- 40:55But you have to have that curiosity or
- 40:57else you're going to be too stuck in the
- 40:58situation to do anything about it.
- 41:01Like if you have an addiction or a
- 41:02problem
- 41:03and you're suffering miserably,
- 41:05you're not going to have the mental
- 41:06resources
- 41:08to actually deal with a problem.
- 41:10You're too busy being afraid or
- 41:11suffering miserably.
- 41:13And so curiosity allows you to take a
- 41:15step back
- 41:17from that suffering
- 41:20and enters you into a mode where now
- 41:22you're doing something about it. But
- 41:23just remember, it's always the same
- 41:25thing. Tension is created by opposites.
- 41:30>> [clears throat]
- 41:32>> That's why they say opposites attract.
- 41:35Why do opposites attract? Because
- 41:37there's no separation. They're both one
- 41:38thing. So naturally any opposite is
- 41:41attracted to each other.
- 41:42And through opposites, there's this
- 41:43tension. There's energy created.
- 41:47Psychologically, you would call this
- 41:49libido. It's life energy. Where is your
- 41:51life energy going naturally?
- 41:53Where are you pulled? Where are you
- 41:54excited?
- 41:56Even what triggers you. What angers you.
- 41:58What causes pain and suffering.
- 42:00And if this is the case for you,
- 42:04which it is for everybody
- 42:07in different areas of our life.
- 42:10Wherever there is energy, there is
- 42:11opposites.
- 42:12Which means that you are on one end and
- 42:15there's this different trait,
- 42:18this behavior, this pattern on the other
- 42:20end. And life is calling you to
- 42:22integrate that into your life.
- 42:25And what happens
- 42:27once you integrate that?
- 42:29There is one.
- 42:31The energy dissolves.
- 42:33There's no longer the tension.
- 42:36And you return a little bit more to
- 42:37wholeness. I am Ra Energy. If you're
- 42:39tired of feeling like a slave to your
- 42:41mind,
- 42:42a slave to your thoughts, to that little
- 42:44ego prison, then I encourage you to
- 42:46check out Monkey Mind Masters Community,
- 42:49where I'll help you break free from the
- 42:51prison of your mind. Well,
- 42:54much peace and many blessings. And
- 42:55remember, just
- 42:58be.
