How Much Money YouTube Paid Me After 1000 Subscribers (My First 6 Months as a Monetized Creator) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00In this video, I'm going to share with
- 0:01you how much YouTube paid me in the
- 0:03first 6 months after hitting 1,000
- 0:06subscribers. So, to give you a bit of
- 0:08context, I started this channel in April
- 0:10of this year. And for the first 6 weeks,
- 0:13you can see that my videos were getting
- 0:15basically no views at all. I mean, I
- 0:17remember posting some videos that were
- 0:19getting less than 10 views each. And of
- 0:22course, to pour your heart and soul into
- 0:23your videos and for them to get
- 0:26essentially no views, it does sting a
- 0:28little bit. like let's just be honest
- 0:29with each other. But I knew I had to
- 0:32keep going. And I think it was the 12th
- 0:34video that I posted, which is this one
- 0:37right here, is the one that really,
- 0:39really took off. And you can see that in
- 0:41the 8 days after posting that video, my
- 0:43channel hit 1,000 subscribers and I got
- 0:46monetized just a couple weeks after
- 0:48that, which was such a crazy feeling.
- 0:51Like, I never expected in my wildest
- 0:54dreams for the channel to take off that
- 0:56quickly. Now, if you're unsure about how
- 0:59monetization on YouTube works, you
- 1:01essentially need two requirements to get
- 1:03monetized. So, you need to hit 1,000
- 1:06subscribers and also 4,000 watch hours.
- 1:10And for most people, myself included,
- 1:12they will hit 1,000 subscribers first
- 1:15and then it usually takes a little bit
- 1:16longer to hit 4,000 watch hours. So, for
- 1:20me, it took 59 days to hit 1,000
- 1:22subscribers after posting my first
- 1:25video. and it took 71 days to hit 4,000
- 1:28watch hours. So that's around 10 weeks.
- 1:30And once you hit those requirements, you
- 1:32have to actually apply to get monetized.
- 1:35So after I applied, it took about 8 days
- 1:37for me to actually start earning money
- 1:39from AdSense. So now let's dive into how
- 1:42much money YouTube actually paid me in
- 1:44my first 6 months of being [music]
- 1:46monetized. Okay, so we'll start off with
- 1:48month number one. And the reason I'm
- 1:50doing it month by month is because later
- 1:53in the video, I want to show you
- 1:55something about how the amount of money
- 1:56that you make per 1,000 views actually
- 2:00changes as you get further into the
- 2:02partnership program. And I think you're
- 2:04going to find that really interesting.
- 2:05So, in June, my channel received 102,000
- 2:09views. I gained 3.9,000
- 2:12subscribers and I made a grand total of
- 2:15$8.74,
- 2:18which sounds really bad, but it's only
- 2:20because I only actually got paid for the
- 2:22last day of the month. So, let's move on
- 2:25to July. Now, this was my first full
- 2:28month of being monetized, and this month
- 2:30was absolutely insane because I actually
- 2:32had two videos that were popping off at
- 2:35the same time. So, you can see that my
- 2:36views were much higher. So, I received
- 2:39167,000 views, 5.7,000
- 2:43subscribers, which is crazy. And I got
- 2:45paid a grand total of $67529.
- 2:52Now, of course, this isn't life-changing
- 2:54money. You know, I definitely can't live
- 2:56on this as a monthly income, but to me,
- 2:59this is still amazing. You know, it pays
- 3:01for some bills and maybe a few nights
- 3:03out in the month. And also, just to be
- 3:05fully transparent, this isn't the main
- 3:07way that I make money from this channel.
- 3:09I actually have a community for beginner
- 3:12creators and a couple other things as
- 3:14well, which by the way, some of our
- 3:15members inside the community are getting
- 3:17insane results at the moment. So, if you
- 3:20are struggling to grow your audience,
- 3:21link in the description. I can help you
- 3:23out. Okay, so in August, my channel
- 3:25received 92,000 views, 2.3,000
- 3:28subscribers, and I made $412.99.
- 3:33So you can see it's actually come down a
- 3:35little bit from the month before. Now
- 3:36September is where things get a little
- 3:38bit interesting. And one of the reasons
- 3:40why I wanted to show you this month by
- 3:42month is to show you just how much your
- 3:45income is going to fluctuate when you
- 3:47get monetized. For example, in this
- 3:49month I gained 64,000 views, 1.4,000
- 3:534,000 subscribers, but I only made
- 3:55$23663,
- 3:59which is actually only a third of what I
- 4:02made a couple of months before. But this
- 4:04is totally normal because every channel
- 4:07has videos that take off and then of
- 4:10course those videos have to come back
- 4:11down and you just have to get used to
- 4:13the fact that your income is also going
- 4:15to go up and then it's going to come
- 4:17right back down with the views. So in
- 4:19October things started to pick back up
- 4:21again. So, I gained 86,000 views, 2,000
- 4:25subscribers, and made $414.15.
- 4:31And finally, last month in November, I
- 4:34had another video that did quite well,
- 4:36and I received $134,000
- 4:39views, 3.3,000 subscribers, and I made a
- 4:42grand total of $65958,
- 4:47which is almost my best month so far. In
- 4:50fact, I had this day right here where I
- 4:52received $44. And I'm pretty sure that's
- 4:54the most I've made so far in a single
- 4:57day. Now, like I said, this definitely
- 4:59isn't life-changing money. And I tell
- 5:02you guys this literally all the time,
- 5:04but YouTube AdSense is never going to be
- 5:06your main source of income as a creator.
- 5:09For example, if you do want to become a
- 5:11full-time creator, then you can make so
- 5:14so much more money from sponsorships and
- 5:16of course creating your own products as
- 5:18well. Now, the next thing I want to show
- 5:20you is really interesting, and I wasn't
- 5:23actually aware of this before I got
- 5:25monetized. So, I want to talk to you
- 5:27about something called RPM, and how that
- 5:29actually changes over time. So, your RPM
- 5:32is basically the amount of money that
- 5:34you get paid per 1,000 views on your
- 5:37videos. For example, if your RPM was $5,
- 5:42every 1,000 views that you get on your
- 5:44channel, you make $5. But something I
- 5:47didn't know is that when you get
- 5:49monetized, your RPM can actually
- 5:52drastically improve over time. So you
- 5:54can see that when I got monetized, my
- 5:57RPM was $2.73.
- 6:01And this number is pretty low. But you
- 6:04can see that over the course of the next
- 6:06six months, my RPM slowly but surely
- 6:09improves all the way up to $658,
- 6:14which is crazy because that means I'm
- 6:16making two to three times more money for
- 6:18every 1,000 views that I get on my
- 6:20videos. So, I want to end this video by
- 6:22giving you a couple of lessons that I
- 6:25really wish I knew before I got
- 6:27monetized. And if you're still on your
- 6:29journey towards monetization, I think
- 6:31you're going to find this really
- 6:32valuable. So, the first lesson is that
- 6:34your first breakthrough will always come
- 6:37from an unexpected video. It's almost
- 6:40always the video that you didn't really
- 6:42expect to take off. For example, the
- 6:44first video of mine that blew up was
- 6:46essentially just a yapping video. There
- 6:49was no fancy editing. I didn't really
- 6:51put that much work into it. It was
- 6:52basically just me telling a personal
- 6:54story and sharing my experiences. And
- 6:58then on the other hand, I've had videos
- 6:59that I've spent absolutely ages on and
- 7:02I've poured my heart and soul into and
- 7:04they've just completely bombed. And
- 7:06that's kind of the irony of YouTube. The
- 7:09less you try hard to impress people, the
- 7:12more impressive you become. And the
- 7:14second lesson is that monetization is
- 7:16the start, not the finish line. So I
- 7:19think a lot of new creators, they treat
- 7:22monetization like it's the end goal and
- 7:25it's all that really matters. But once
- 7:26you actually get monetized, you realize
- 7:29that it's literally just level one. And
- 7:31there are so many more levels to
- 7:33becoming a full-time creator and turning
- 7:36all this into a full-time business. And
- 7:38on that note, if you do want to dive
- 7:40into the easiest way to make money as a
- 7:42small creator, even if you're not
- 7:44monetized, I actually made this video
- 7:46right here where I give you an ultra
- 7:48simple blueprint on how I reached my
- 7:50first $10,000 month as a complete
- 7:53beginner. So yeah, click onto that video
- 7:56and [music] I'll see you there.
