  1. 0:00If I lost every editing client I had, I
  2. 0:02needed [music] to make one to $3,000 a
  3. 0:04month as quickly as possible, this is
  4. 0:07exactly what I'd do. And this exact
  5. 0:09strategy that I'm going to show you
  6. 0:11today is the same one that I used to
  7. 0:13sign my first ever 3K a month video
  8. 0:15editing client from School, and I call
  9. 0:18it the Bali strategy. So, without
  10. 0:20further ado, I'm going to show you guys
  11. 0:22exactly what I've done in the past and
  12. 0:24what I always do whenever I lose a
  13. 0:26client and need to sign a new one for
  14. 0:28one to 3K a month. So, first of all,
  15. 0:30where did the Bali strategy actually
  16. 0:32come from? Basically, what happened was
  17. 0:34I moved to Bali with my friend
  18. 0:37and as soon as we landed in Bali, we had
  19. 0:39a little bit of money that was going to
  20. 0:41survive us a couple of months, but we
  21. 0:43had no clients. So, we basically had to
  22. 0:45sign a client as quickly as possible for
  23. 0:48one to 3K a month, otherwise, we would
  24. 0:50have basically been homeless in a
  25. 0:52country we've never even been in before.
  26. 0:54At this time, I had no referrals and I
  27. 0:57had no previous work to show anyone. So,
  28. 1:00because all the previous projects I did
  29. 1:03were completely random. They were gaming
  30. 1:05montages, they were funny moments with
  31. 1:07my friends, they were just random side
  32. 1:09projects, and I finally wanted to lock
  33. 1:11in on one niche, do a really good job,
  34. 1:14and become an authority figure in that
  35. 1:16niche. So, I finally needed someone to
  36. 1:18take me seriously. So, my main goal for
  37. 1:21this first month to sign a client was
  38. 1:23simply find someone who sees my work and
  39. 1:26just goes, "Oh yeah, I want that on my
  40. 1:28channel." I just needed to get in front
  41. 1:30of people. So, instead of asking people
  42. 1:32to imagine what it would be like if I
  43. 1:34was your video editor, I showed them
  44. 1:37what it would be like if I was their
  45. 1:39video editor. I gave them a first-hand
  46. 1:42experience of what it felt like to work
  47. 1:45with me, almost as if you were
  48. 1:46test-driving a car instead of just
  49. 1:48looking at it in the showroom floor. And
  50. 1:50what transpired from that was this. My
  51. 1:52first ever client that I got using the
  52. 1:55Bali method was a sales coach. I found
  53. 1:58him on school. He had a real business.
  54. 2:00He was putting out videos online, and he
  55. 2:03had a community. But, I saw his videos
  56. 2:05had basically no editing. They had some
  57. 2:08captions, and that was about it. So,
  58. 2:10instead of DMing him like most video
  59. 2:12editors do, and asking him, "Hey man,
  60. 2:15I've saw you don't have any editing. Let
  61. 2:17me know if you need a video editor." Or,
  62. 2:19"Hey, I can re-edit a video for you for
  63. 2:21free." I simply took a YouTube to MP4
  64. 2:24downloader. I downloaded one of his
  65. 2:26videos. I took the first 30 seconds, his
  66. 2:28hook, and I just edited it as if he sent
  67. 2:31me the footage. And he had no idea that
  68. 2:32I was doing this. I just did it without
  69. 2:34him asking me. Because something that a
  70. 2:36lot of big entrepreneurs say, like Alex
  71. 2:38Hormozi, is they don't have a lot of
  72. 2:40time on their hands. So, instead of
  73. 2:42asking them, "Hey, can I do this?" It
  74. 2:45takes time out of their day. You just
  75. 2:47want to say, "Hey, I did this for you."
  76. 2:49It's way stronger. And also, I didn't
  77. 2:51send him a portfolio. Because I'm
  78. 2:53re-editing one of his videos, there's no
  79. 2:55need to send him a portfolio to see my
  80. 2:58other work. In fact, throughout this
  81. 2:59entire Bali method, I never once sent
  82. 3:03someone my portfolio. You don't need a
  83. 3:05portfolio as a video editor. And so,
  84. 3:07immediately, what this did is started
  85. 3:10the conversation. Instead of starting it
  86. 3:12with a boring opener that they probably
  87. 3:14seen hundreds of times, the edit itself
  88. 3:17started the conversation. When he opened
  89. 3:19my direct message, he saw a video file,
  90. 3:23a thumbnail of a video that had his face
  91. 3:25on it. That's extremely interesting to
  92. 3:27anyone, because humans are pretty
  93. 3:29self-centered. So, before we even get on
  94. 3:30a call to see if I'm even qualified to
  95. 3:34work with this guy, he knew that I could
  96. 3:36edit well, and he knew that I could be a
  97. 3:38very valuable part on his team. And so,
  98. 3:41if we rewind a bit, and look at, "Okay,
  99. 3:43how did I actually get this 3K a month
  100. 3:45sales coach as my first ever video
  101. 3:47editing client to continue being able to
  102. 3:49travel the world, and do a ton of fun
  103. 3:51stuff in Bali. What I did was this. I
  104. 3:53found one business owner on School,
  105. 3:55someone who had an offer, active
  106. 3:57content, and was already making money. I
  107. 4:00took the first 30 seconds of a recent
  108. 4:02YouTube video they had, and I made it
  109. 4:04really good. Now, a big misconception
  110. 4:06people have is that you need to find
  111. 4:08someone with no editing. That's not
  112. 4:10true. I re-edited hooks for people that
  113. 4:12already had editing on their videos.
  114. 4:14Let's say there were 5 seconds without
  115. 4:15editing. They were just talking to the
  116. 4:17camera. I would take that. Let's say the
  117. 4:18next 5 seconds there was editing where
  118. 4:20they were talking to the camera. I would
  119. 4:22simply put a new animated sequence on
  120. 4:25screen. So, you couldn't see them
  121. 4:26anymore. It was just their voice.
  122. 4:28Completely new animation top to bottom,
  123. 4:30so it covers everything. And then, when
  124. 4:32there's no more editing again, and I can
  125. 4:34transition back to their webcam, that's
  126. 4:36what I would do. The main point is to
  127. 4:38find people with either really bad
  128. 4:40editing, minimal editing, or no editing.
  129. 4:42And then, the third thing is to just
  130. 4:44send it. I would keep the message really
  131. 4:45short. Hey, made this for you. Let me
  132. 4:47know what you think. And I would send
  133. 4:49the message. And I did this every single
  134. 4:51day. One person, one edit, one outreach
  135. 4:54message every single day for 30 days,
  136. 4:56and it worked. In fact, every single
  137. 4:58time I start this Bali method, like the
  138. 5:00Bali method can be happening down in
  139. 5:02Vancouver where I live, you know. If I
  140. 5:04lose a client, I know I got to go Bali
  141. 5:07method. And the reason why I call it
  142. 5:09that and why I call it so serious is
  143. 5:11this is a grind. This is literally this
  144. 5:13is a difficult thing to do. For 30 days,
  145. 5:16you will be locked in your basement.
  146. 5:17It'll look like this. It'll be dark.
  147. 5:19You'll be just editing. You'll spend 12
  148. 5:21hours re-editing someone's hook. You'll
  149. 5:23send it to them. They might not even
  150. 5:24reply. But, the people who do reply are
  151. 5:26so qualified, and they're way more
  152. 5:28likely to pay you that 1 to 3K a month
  153. 5:30than another video editor spamming some
  154. 5:33garbage outreach message. But, it is a
  155. 5:35grind, and you're going to be locked in
  156. 5:37for 30 days, and you're going to be head
  157. 5:39in the trenches, but it's going
  158. 5:41to work. And every single time I try
  159. 5:43this Bali method, I rarely reach the
  160. 5:4530-day mark. Usually by day seven, I end
  161. 5:48up finding my new two to 4K a month
  162. 5:51client. So, it's that effective that you
  163. 5:54probably won't even have to do this for
  164. 5:5530 days. You should lock in for 30 days.
  165. 5:57You should even set a commitment to do
  166. 5:59it for 90. Imagine if you did 100. If
  167. 6:01you did 100 or 90 outreach messages that
  168. 6:04are really high-quality, re-edited
  169. 6:06hooks, and you can open up a folder, and
  170. 6:08you can see all the re-edited samples
  171. 6:10that you did. That'll look so cool.
  172. 6:12There's no way that if you have that
  173. 6:14that you won't sign up editing client
  174. 6:15for 1 to 3K a month. No video editor out
  175. 6:18there will do that much work and somehow
  176. 6:20not get a client. And the reason why
  177. 6:21this works is they can judge your work
  178. 6:24immediately. As a video editor, someone
  179. 6:26who's looking to hire you, the main
  180. 6:27thing they want to see is what sort of
  181. 6:29value can you provide to them. And video
  182. 6:31editing as a whole has gone kind of down
  183. 6:34the drain lately. I mean, there is more
  184. 6:37garbage video editors now than there
  185. 6:39ever have been. More people that are
  186. 6:41lazy, more people that can't
  187. 6:42communicate. It's awful. And all of
  188. 6:45these things are going to be running
  189. 6:46through your client's mind because
  190. 6:48they've worked with crappy video editors
  191. 6:50in the past. But by sending your work to
  192. 6:52them, they can judge it immediately and
  193. 6:54see if you're the type of person that
  194. 6:56they'd want to work with. And School is
  195. 6:58the best platform for this because they
  196. 7:00put you in front of the right people. If
  197. 7:02you want to work with entrepreneurs who
  198. 7:05are also athletes, you can find those
  199. 7:07people on School. If you want to work
  200. 7:09with entrepreneurs who are bakers or
  201. 7:11cookers, you can work with those people.
  202. 7:14Everything is categor ized. It's the
  203. 7:15perfect platform for outreach, also
  204. 7:18because people respond to their DMs way
  205. 7:21more often on School than they do on
  206. 7:23Instagram. There's no primary inbox,
  207. 7:25general, or requests. Everything is put
  208. 7:28into the same inbox, and when you send a
  209. 7:30message, you're bumped to the top of the
  210. 7:32inbox. And also, them watching the
  211. 7:3530-second hook of their own video, which
  212. 7:37they're going to be more inclined to do
  213. 7:39than some random pitch that you send
  214. 7:40them, is basically the pitch in itself.
  215. 7:43So, the whole plan has three parts.
  216. 7:45Number one, outreach. You want to find
  217. 7:47the right person, make the re-edit, and
  218. 7:49then send it to them. Number two is
  219. 7:51sales. Get on a call with them, build
  220. 7:53rapport, understand their problems. Most
  221. 7:55video editors get on a call and they
  222. 7:57start unloading a bunch of information.
  223. 7:59That's not how selling works. It's about
  224. 8:01listening to someone. It's about making
  225. 8:03a friend. It's about relating to their
  226. 8:05problems, finding out what their
  227. 8:06problems are. It's about asking
  228. 8:08questions. to ask way more questions
  229. 8:12than you actually talk about. Most
  230. 8:14people don't realize that selling isn't
  231. 8:17even about being extremely persuasive,
  232. 8:20like The Wolf of Wall Street. Selling is
  233. 8:22about getting someone to like you, so
  234. 8:24they trust you enough to send you money.
  235. 8:26And the way you get someone to like you
  236. 8:27isn't by talking. It's about listening.
  237. 8:29This applies to literally making friends
  238. 8:32in real life. If you just make an effort
  239. 8:34to ask someone about themselves, they
  240. 8:37will leave that conversation going,
  241. 8:39"Wow, that was a really great
  242. 8:40conversation. I like that guy." You
  243. 8:42didn't say anything. You just asked them
  244. 8:43questions, but they will feel good. And
  245. 8:46most people will tie in the experience
  246. 8:48with the person with the emotion they
  247. 8:50experienced rather than the logic of the
  248. 8:53actual questions that were discussed.
  249. 8:55They will tie in how they feel about you
  250. 8:57based on how they actually felt in the
  251. 8:59moment. And if you ask questions about
  252. 9:02them, they'll feel good, meaning they'll
  253. 9:04think that you're a really good person
  254. 9:05to talk to. And that's what sales is.
  255. 9:08And then, once you understand the
  256. 9:09problem, you've asked them a ton of
  257. 9:10questions, you simply offer them the
  258. 9:12solution, a content partner for their
  259. 9:14business. Probably going to be saving
  260. 9:16them time with their content, making a
  261. 9:18higher quality, so their offer is
  262. 9:20perceived that it's more valuable if
  263. 9:23their content's higher quality, but then
  264. 9:24also consistency, making sure they can
  265. 9:27keep consistent uploads, so they don't
  266. 9:29have dry months. You might have to offer
  267. 9:31more things than video editing to solve
  268. 9:32their problems. You might have to offer
  269. 9:34thumbnails and posting and script
  270. 9:36creation or ideation, all of these sorts
  271. 9:38of things, which shouldn't be a problem
  272. 9:40if you don't want to be replaced by AI,
  273. 9:42but the third thing is delivery. So, you
  274. 9:44want to make sure you do really good
  275. 9:45work, get them good results, and use it
  276. 9:48to win over the next client. Don't worry
  277. 9:51about signing five clients and hiring an
  278. 9:53army of video editors to manage that
  279. 9:55content. You can get one client for 1 to
  280. 9:573K a month, get your bills covered, just
  281. 10:00make sure you're making good money, save
  282. 10:02some aside, whatever, but do such a good
  283. 10:04job with them that they can be your only
  284. 10:06focus. If they're your only focus, and
  285. 10:08you get them really good results, you
  286. 10:10can do two things. One, you can upsell
  287. 10:12them, or two, you can use their results
  288. 10:15to sign the next client and charge even
  289. 10:18more money, and then use that client's
  290. 10:19results to sign the next client, and
  291. 10:22soon you'll be able to sign clients for
  292. 10:245 to 10K a month, and you can work with
  293. 10:26only one client instead of the other
  294. 10:28video editor who's working with five,
  295. 10:30who hates his life, and has to hire 10
  296. 10:32video editors, and makes 40% of the
  297. 10:35profit. So, section one, outreach. You
  298. 10:37want to make the right person care
  299. 10:40before you ask for a call. You got to
  300. 10:42make sure you're targeting the right
  301. 10:43people and that they actually care for
  302. 10:45what you have to sell. So, first, start
  303. 10:47on School, because the right people are
  304. 10:49easy to find, as we talked about before.
  305. 10:51Their category system is by far the best
  306. 10:54out of any social media platform. Create
  307. 10:55a basic community. Just create any
  308. 10:57community for $9.99 a month. They've got
  309. 11:00a free trial, because that way you're
  310. 11:02going to get access to the Schoolers
  311. 11:03community, which is a community that all
  312. 11:05the community owners get access to. Once
  313. 11:08you're in there, you can see all the
  314. 11:09community owners and how much money
  315. 11:11they're making and their position in the
  316. 11:12School Games, and that's where you're
  317. 11:14going to build your list of leads. So,
  318. 11:16you're going to look through that those
  319. 11:17Schoolers, you're going to find people
  320. 11:19who are winning, people who have active
  321. 11:20communities, coaches, online business
  322. 11:23owners. They're going to go to their
  323. 11:24profile and they'll have their social
  324. 11:26medias linked, so you can go to their
  325. 11:28communities, you can look at their
  326. 11:29social media platforms, go to their
  327. 11:31YouTube, see what type of content
  328. 11:33they're making and what the quality is.
  329. 11:35And then, you can message them on
  330. 11:36School. You might be able to message
  331. 11:37them through the Schoolers platform.
  332. 11:39They might have DMs turned off, that's
  333. 11:41fine. You can join their communities, be
  334. 11:43an active member in their communities.
  335. 11:45Don't be sleazy. Actually express
  336. 11:47interest in these people. You should
  337. 11:49want to work with your clients because
  338. 11:51they're good people. This might take
  339. 11:53some time to build up that rapport, but
  340. 11:54it really does help. You can also make
  341. 11:56posts inside of the Schoolers community
  342. 11:59to get your name out there. That will
  343. 12:00also help a lot. And people use their
  344. 12:02inbox on School, so your message has a
  345. 12:04way better chance of being seen than on
  346. 12:06Instagram. So, you want to contact
  347. 12:08people with a real offer and simple
  348. 12:10videos. You want to contact people who
  349. 12:12sell something, post on YouTube or
  350. 12:14Instagram, whatever sort of content you
  351. 12:15edit. Videos that are mostly talking
  352. 12:17heads, so they can benefit a lot from
  353. 12:19some editing, and they're active on
  354. 12:22School. You want to skip people who
  355. 12:23don't have a clear offer, who have many
  356. 12:25communities that aren't making any
  357. 12:26money. They've got no recent videos. I
  358. 12:29wouldn't necessarily skip people who
  359. 12:30don't have any recent videos, but I
  360. 12:33would skip people who maybe haven't
  361. 12:35uploaded in over a year. Uh you also
  362. 12:37want to skip people who have excellent
  363. 12:38editing already cuz there's not really
  364. 12:41much that you can do to be much better
  365. 12:43than their current editors. And you also
  366. 12:45don't want to work with people who need
  367. 12:46a complete content strategy from the
  368. 12:49ground up, who haven't built up any sort
  369. 12:51of momentum. You want one obvious
  370. 12:53improvement. You don't want to have to
  371. 12:54build them everything from the ground up
  372. 12:56because that requires a lot of
  373. 12:58refinement over time. And most people
  374. 13:00aren't going to get the value in the
  375. 13:02first few months. So, choose one of
  376. 13:04their recent videos with a very slow
  377. 13:06first 30 seconds. Pick something that is
  378. 13:09still fresh for them, not something that
  379. 13:11if they were to re-upload, it's so old
  380. 13:13that it's not even applicable to them
  381. 13:15anymore. You also want to pick a video
  382. 13:17that connects to something that they
  383. 13:18sell. So, make sure it's a good topic
  384. 13:21because then if you make a better
  385. 13:23version of it for them, then they can
  386. 13:24see how if more people watched it, it
  387. 13:27would contribute to having more sales in
  388. 13:30their product. And you also want to pick
  389. 13:31one with a weak opening. Something with
  390. 13:33a long hook that you can cut a lot of
  391. 13:35fluff out. Something with, you know, if
  392. 13:37there's some background noise in the
  393. 13:38audio that you can put through an audio
  394. 13:40enhancer, that's a small bonus you can
  395. 13:42give them. No visual movement. If
  396. 13:44they're off-centered a bit like this,
  397. 13:46you'd be able to zoom in and shift it to
  398. 13:49the right in Premiere so they're
  399. 13:50centered. You can point things like this
  400. 13:52out to them so they see the value that
  401. 13:53you're changing. If the improvement
  402. 13:55isn't very obvious and they've already
  403. 13:56got an editor, just choose a different
  404. 13:58video or just choose a different lead
  405. 14:00entirely. You want to spend some time
  406. 14:02researching your leads because you're
  407. 14:03only doing one a day. You only need one
  408. 14:05really good lead every single day. And
  409. 14:07stop at 30 seconds. Just do the hook
  410. 14:09because at the end of the day on
  411. 14:11YouTube, on Instagram, I mean, Instagram
  412. 14:13hooks are like 3 seconds, but on
  413. 14:15YouTube, the hook is the most important
  414. 14:17part of the video. It decides whether
  415. 14:19people stay. If they don't watch the
  416. 14:20hook, they're not going to watch the
  417. 14:22rest of the video. And if they've
  418. 14:23already watched the hook, of them
  419. 14:25watching the rest of the video is
  420. 14:26extremely high. And also, you can finish
  421. 14:29it because you can do one every single
  422. 14:31day. You're not editing a whole video,
  423. 14:32you're just doing 30 seconds but making
  424. 14:34it really, really good. You can even put
  425. 14:36it on your Instagram, a before and an
  426. 14:38after. If you wanted to build a
  427. 14:40portfolio, you could have a before and
  428. 14:42after cuz the difference is really
  429. 14:44clear. And make this the best edit that
  430. 14:46you can. Even though they're not paying
  431. 14:49yet, don't treat it like throwaway work.
  432. 14:51You want to make sure that you are
  433. 14:52trying really, really hard on this
  434. 14:54stuff. You want to literally work your
  435. 14:56ass off on this stuff. Make sure it's
  436. 14:57really good. Do all the research you can
  437. 15:00to make sure that the edits that you're
  438. 15:01doing are what they need. Cut all the
  439. 15:03pauses, fix the audio, add motion
  440. 15:06graphics, wow them. You really want to
  441. 15:08make sure that when they watch this,
  442. 15:10they get the wow factor. You don't need
  443. 15:12Mr. Beast crazy explosions and hyper
  444. 15:15editing everywhere. Some people, some
  445. 15:18clients are actually going to prefer
  446. 15:20less editing than others. You just want
  447. 15:22to figure out what would their brand
  448. 15:24genuinely benefit from the most. What
  449. 15:26would their audience really want to see?
  450. 15:29Their response to you should be
  451. 15:31something like, "Wow, this is really
  452. 15:33good." That's what you should be aiming
  453. 15:34for is a really positive response. And
  454. 15:37then, once you've edited it, send them
  455. 15:39two short messages. "Hey name, I made
  456. 15:43this for you." And send the link or drop
  457. 15:45the file in the chat directly. And then,
  458. 15:47the second message can be, "I'm not like
  459. 15:49most editors in your DMs. If you want to
  460. 15:51figure out how I can solve X problem,
  461. 15:53let's hop on a call. Let me know."
  462. 15:55Something like that that actually moves
  463. 15:57the conversation forward. The second
  464. 15:59message doesn't really matter as much as
  465. 16:01the first. Your main goal should just be
  466. 16:03to get them on a call. If they like your
  467. 16:05video, they're going to feel like they
  468. 16:07want to hop on a call with you. It's
  469. 16:09hard to mess it up on the second
  470. 16:10message. Another thing you can do in the
  471. 16:12first message is to include the first
  472. 16:15video that they made. So, "Hey name, I
  473. 16:17saw this video" send the link "I
  474. 16:20re-edited it for you. Here's my link."
  475. 16:22So, then they have the old link and the
  476. 16:23new link so they can compare before and
  477. 16:25after. So, one re-edit a day does two
  478. 16:28things for you. It gives you fast
  479. 16:30feedback cuz people are going to reply
  480. 16:32to you quick and also better edits. With
  481. 16:34every single re-edit you do, you're
  482. 16:36going to get way better at editing in
  483. 16:39this one niche that you're operating in.
  484. 16:40So, your 30th outreach message is going
  485. 16:43to be significantly better than your
  486. 16:45first. You see who replies, which
  487. 16:48problems get attention cuz you might
  488. 16:50switch up the messaging a little bit.
  489. 16:51What type of client wants help and which
  490. 16:54message actually gets people on a call.
  491. 16:56You want to make sure that you're
  492. 16:57analyzing all this data. Compile all of
  493. 16:59it, put it into chat GPT, the people's
  494. 17:01profiles you're contacting, the messages
  495. 17:04you sent, the responses you're getting.
  496. 17:06Collect all of it so you can keep
  497. 17:07improving in the future. If you're not
  498. 17:09collecting data, it's really stupid.
  499. 17:11Just collect data. Also, you get editing
  500. 17:13reps. People really underestimate this
  501. 17:16sort of strategy for getting better at
  502. 17:18editing. You get faster at making these
  503. 17:20cuts and actually editing the content.
  504. 17:23You get better at stuff like audio and
  505. 17:25sound design. You get better at making
  506. 17:27motion graphics for your clients. And
  507. 17:29you also get way more confidence in the
  508. 17:32style that you're going for. The other
  509. 17:33thing to keep in mind is people don't
  510. 17:35reply every single day. By week two, old
  511. 17:38replies are coming in while you're still
  512. 17:40sending new work, meaning by day 30,
  513. 17:43you've got 30 strong edits. You've got
  514. 17:45people replying to you from day one.
  515. 17:47Your pipeline is basically building and
  516. 17:49you want to keep the momentum going.
  517. 17:50Now, sales. This is the part that most
  518. 17:53video editors mess up. You just want to
  519. 17:55start the call like a normal person. You
  520. 17:57want to say, "I want to understand what
  521. 17:58you're trying to do with the content,
  522. 18:00then I'll tell you honestly if I can
  523. 18:01help." It sounds cheesy, "I'll tell you
  524. 18:04honestly if we're a good fit together."
  525. 18:06As you say with like 100 bucks in your
  526. 18:08bank account, but I'm telling you if you
  527. 18:10work with people who aren't a good fit
  528. 18:12for you, it's not even worth the money.
  529. 18:14You genuinely want to see if these
  530. 18:15people are a good fit for you. You want
  531. 18:17to work with your dream client. Think
  532. 18:18about it here. You are probably working
  533. 18:20with a client who is going to be your
  534. 18:21only client for the next month, who
  535. 18:23you're going to go all in on. You want
  536. 18:24to make sure that as much as you want to
  537. 18:26sign them, that you actually want to
  538. 18:28work with them. So, the first step is
  539. 18:30building rapport. This is about making a
  540. 18:31friend. You're an entrepreneur, you
  541. 18:33should be able to find some common
  542. 18:35ground. You can talk about sports. You
  543. 18:37can talk about travel. Look at their
  544. 18:39Instagram, stalk them, point something
  545. 18:42out that you found out about them. Ask
  546. 18:43them a question about it. It doesn't
  547. 18:45need to be long. This can be 1 to 2
  548. 18:47minutes. You just want to like break the
  549. 18:49ice a bit. Number two, discover the
  550. 18:50need. You're going to be asking them
  551. 18:52questions about where they're currently
  552. 18:54at with content, where their goals are,
  553. 18:56and most importantly, what sort of video
  554. 18:59editors they've worked with in the past,
  555. 19:01what problems they had, and if you were
  556. 19:03to ask them honestly, if you were to
  557. 19:05work with the best video editor you
  558. 19:07could, what would that look like? That
  559. 19:09way you're getting the idea of, "Okay,
  560. 19:11what does it mean to do a bad job for
  561. 19:13them and what does it mean to do a good
  562. 19:15job for them? And then simply present
  563. 19:17the solution. Oh, well, you don't like
  564. 19:19editors like this, but you like editors
  565. 19:21like that. Well, good news for you, I'm
  566. 19:23the exact editor you're looking for
  567. 19:25because I operate like this and that
  568. 19:27fits your criteria. And then just ask
  569. 19:29for the next step. All right, do you
  570. 19:31want to start Tuesday or Thursday? Send
  571. 19:32over the contract. Sales gets easier
  572. 19:35when you practice it in this four-step
  573. 19:37system. I actually learned this from my
  574. 19:40first ever client, which I talked about
  575. 19:42earlier, the sales coach. He's a retired
  576. 19:44entrepreneur coming back into the game
  577. 19:46teaching sales to machine shops because
  578. 19:48he sold his machine shop for like $50
  579. 19:50million
  580. 19:5130 years ago or something like that. And
  581. 19:53he's closed nearly a billion dollars in
  582. 19:56sales. So, this is his framework. So,
  583. 19:58take his word for it if you won't take
  584. 20:00mine. So, rapport is about asking them
  585. 20:02questions, not proving how great you
  586. 20:04are. You don't want to tell them about
  587. 20:06your travel plans and oh, I did this and
  588. 20:08I did that. Trust me, these people have
  589. 20:10probably heard crazier before. You
  590. 20:12want to find common ground. You want to
  591. 20:14look them up before the call, ask them
  592. 20:16about something personal. You want to
  593. 20:18use open-ended questions. Let them tell
  594. 20:20you about their life, their work, or
  595. 20:23what most entrepreneurs love talking
  596. 20:25about is how they started their
  597. 20:26business, their come up, their origin
  598. 20:28story, who inspired them. And actually
  599. 20:31listen to them. Don't just think about
  600. 20:33the next question coming up. Don't just
  601. 20:34wait to speak. Look at them and like
  602. 20:36listen to what they're saying and
  603. 20:38realize that you're talking to someone
  604. 20:40who's got a really interesting story
  605. 20:42about them. Get invested into it. And
  606. 20:44then wait for their guard to drop. When
  607. 20:46they have a laugh or a smile or a more
  608. 20:47relaxed answer and they're not so tensed
  609. 20:50up cuz they know they're on a sales
  610. 20:51call, then you can proceed. All right,
  611. 20:53man, I mean, I can sit here talking
  612. 20:54about this forever, but you know, I just
  613. 20:56don't want to waste your time. I know
  614. 20:57you're a busy guy. So, let's just get
  615. 20:59right into the questions and I'm just
  616. 21:02going to see if we're a good fit to see
  617. 21:03if we should work together. If we you
  618. 21:05then cool, we can move forward, but if
  619. 21:06not, totally cool, and we can leave here
  620. 21:08as friends. Sound good? Something like
  621. 21:10that. And then, let them explain the
  622. 21:12gap. So, there's a gap from where they
  623. 21:14are now to where they want to go, and
  624. 21:16you want to have them explain what that
  625. 21:18gap is, so you can build the steps,
  626. 21:21which is the solution to that gap. So,
  627. 21:23what is their current goal? What's the
  628. 21:24bigger dream? Where are they at now?
  629. 21:26What is the bottleneck? What do you like
  630. 21:29about what you do now, and what would
  631. 21:31you change? Those two questions are
  632. 21:33literally the most important questions
  633. 21:35in this entire framework. What do you
  634. 21:37like about what you're doing now? What
  635. 21:38would you keep? Okay, well, what do you
  636. 21:40want to change? They're basically
  637. 21:41telling you how you can do your job
  638. 21:43perfectly. And what happens if this
  639. 21:45isn't fixed in the next 6 to 12 months?
  640. 21:47What if you keep bouncing between
  641. 21:48editors who are inconsistent, and you
  642. 21:50keep missing uploads? You know, okay,
  643. 21:52you miss one upload a week, okay, that's
  644. 21:5410,000 views a week, okay, that's
  645. 21:56520,000 views a year. What's your
  646. 21:59conversion rate? Okay, 10%, okay, so
  647. 22:01that's 52,000
  648. 22:03link clicks that you're missing on.
  649. 22:05What's your conversion rate from that?
  650. 22:06Another 10%. Okay, so you're missing on
  651. 22:085,200 customers every single year
  652. 22:12because you have inconsistent editors.
  653. 22:14That's a lot of money, no? You're just
  654. 22:15pulling out the pain for them. And then,
  655. 22:17repeat it back. So, you want this goal,
  656. 22:19and you're currently here, and this
  657. 22:21thing is getting in the way. Does that
  658. 22:23sound about right? You're just
  659. 22:24confirming what they just told you. So,
  660. 22:25it sounds like you're listening. This is
  661. 22:27a very basic sales framework, but it
  662. 22:29works really, really well. And then,
  663. 22:30only show them how you're going to solve
  664. 22:32their problem. Don't talk about things
  665. 22:34that they don't care about. Ask for
  666. 22:35permission first. So, you said this
  667. 22:37problem is getting in the way. Would you
  668. 22:39like to see how I would solve it? And
  669. 22:41then, be quiet. Be confident when you
  670. 22:42say this. Don't beat around the bush.
  671. 22:44And then, use their words. Show how the
  672. 22:46editing saves time, fixes consistency,
  673. 22:49or creates the reach they ask for.
  674. 22:51That's just example things, saving time,
  675. 22:54consistency, or more reach. Whatever
  676. 22:56they tell you their problem is, just
  677. 22:57repeat it back to them. But, show them
  678. 22:59how editing is the solution to their
  679. 23:01problem. A lot of people think editing
  680. 23:02is just editing, but at the end of the
  681. 23:04day editing solves a variety of
  682. 23:06problems. You just need to reframe the
  683. 23:08way they view editing, which is what
  684. 23:10you're going to do when you repeat their
  685. 23:12words back to them in the sense of
  686. 23:14editing fixes that. Oh, you struggle
  687. 23:16with consistency? Well, better editing
  688. 23:18fixes that because when you have better
  689. 23:20editors, they're more consistent at
  690. 23:22getting videos out, meaning you don't
  691. 23:24miss an upload, rather than just yeah,
  692. 23:26we edit videos. It's a completely
  693. 23:27different thing. Yeah, so cover today
  694. 23:29and later. Explain how working with you
  695. 23:31gives them an immediate result.
  696. 23:33Immediately the videos are going to be
  697. 23:35better, they're going to be more
  698. 23:36consistent, but also how that process
  699. 23:38keeps getting better as the channel
  700. 23:40grows. As we work together, we find the
  701. 23:42best processes, we can streamline
  702. 23:44operations, I can conduct data for you
  703. 23:47and find out which sort of editing
  704. 23:49resonates the best with your customers
  705. 23:51or what videos they want to see, what
  706. 23:53videos convert the best, and that only
  707. 23:55happens with time. And then ask
  708. 23:57directly, does this look like something
  709. 23:58you want to move forward with? Then
  710. 24:00offer a start date. If they want to move
  711. 24:02forward, offer the start date. Get that
  712. 24:04contract signed, get that payment done.
  713. 24:06Don't beat around the bush. They told
  714. 24:08you yes, just close it. And then
  715. 24:09delivery. You want to make the first
  716. 24:11client the reason why the next client
  717. 24:13trusts you. You want to leapfrog
  718. 24:15clients. You use this client to get to
  719. 24:17that one, use that one to get to this
  720. 24:19one. So, do the work yourself and make
  721. 24:22the first client happy and proud to
  722. 24:25refer you. Do not rush into outsourcing.
  723. 24:28Don't rush into more clients having time
  724. 24:30freedom and a big team and sitting in
  725. 24:32Bali with your feet up on the beach.
  726. 24:34That is like a seven-figure entrepreneur
  727. 24:37exiting and that's what their life looks
  728. 24:39like. When you're building a business,
  729. 24:41that is not what life looks like. And if
  730. 24:42that's what you think it is, just forget
  731. 24:44about it. Try to do a crypto pump and
  732. 24:46dump and good luck with that. You want
  733. 24:48to focus on providing your best edits,
  734. 24:50having really clear communication.
  735. 24:52Communication, I've worked with video
  736. 24:54editors and the main reason why I
  737. 24:56stopped working with them is
  738. 24:57communication. You want to over
  739. 24:58communicate if anything. You want your
  740. 25:00client to tell you, man, I appreciate
  741. 25:02the communication, but let's like hold
  742. 25:04it back for a bit. Let's make it more
  743. 25:06concise, whatever. You don't want to
  744. 25:07just spam them. You do want to make sure
  745. 25:09that it's coherent and you are actually
  746. 25:11putting your thoughts together in an
  747. 25:12eloquent way and you want to make sure
  748. 25:14that you're not spamming them, but you
  749. 25:16do want to make sure that you're over
  750. 25:17communicating more than anything. You
  751. 25:19want to make sure that you're hitting
  752. 25:20every single deadline and you want to
  753. 25:22make sure that the result is something
  754. 25:23that they're actually seeing, that they
  755. 25:25can actually feel is being produced
  756. 25:28right in front of their eyes, that
  757. 25:29they're blown away with every video
  758. 25:31you're sending them, that they're seeing
  759. 25:32better reception from the videos, that
  760. 25:34they're making more money. You want to
  761. 25:35really make sure that they're getting
  762. 25:37the result that you're offering them.
  763. 25:39And if the first client takes more time
  764. 25:40than expected, that's fine. You just
  765. 25:42want to learn how to do the job
  766. 25:44properly. I used to be worried about,
  767. 25:46oh, I want to make sure that I'm making
  768. 25:47this much an hour. So, I'm going to have
  769. 25:50my clock right here and at every hour
  770. 25:52I'm going to write down how many hours
  771. 25:53each video takes me. And it's like,
  772. 25:55dude, forget about that. If you provide
  773. 25:57really good work, you're going to make a
  774. 25:59lot of money. People don't realize this.
  775. 26:00People think that you make money and
  776. 26:02then you do the good work. No, no, no,
  777. 26:04no, no. You do the good work, you don't
  778. 26:06make a lot of money, but because you're
  779. 26:07doing good work, you eventually make a
  780. 26:09lot of money. That's how it works. So,
  781. 26:11as I've been saying, you want to use one
  782. 26:13good result to win a better client. With
  783. 26:15client one, you do great work, then you
  784. 26:17get the results, then you show stronger
  785. 26:19proof to client two, and then you keep
  786. 26:21going, client three, four, five, you
  787. 26:23keep using your proof to get better
  788. 26:25clients and eventually you're going to
  789. 26:26get referrals and people are going to
  790. 26:28talk about you and you're going to be
  791. 26:30known for the guy in that niche or in
  792. 26:32your space that does really good work
  793. 26:34and people are going to want to work
  794. 26:36with you. In fact, I don't do outreach
  795. 26:38anymore. Pretty much all of my clients
  796. 26:40come from referrals and they're like 10K
  797. 26:42a month clients. This is exactly how I
  798. 26:43built my business three years ago. I
  799. 26:45started with free videos, then videos
  800. 26:48that I basically lost money on cuz I
  801. 26:50would have to travel out to their
  802. 26:51business and I would lose money in gas
  803. 26:54from what I was actually making. But I
  804. 26:56would use their results to get better
  805. 26:57clients then I went okay, 1K a month
  806. 26:59then use those results to get better
  807. 27:01client okay, cool 4K a month. And then
  808. 27:03after a while people know you do good
  809. 27:05work and you just start getting messages
  810. 27:07of hey, I've got this project. Hey, I
  811. 27:08got this. And now you don't even do
  812. 27:10outreach anymore. You just rely on
  813. 27:12referrals. I could do outreach. I could
  814. 27:14make more money if I wanted to, but I
  815. 27:16want to grow my personal brand instead
  816. 27:18of my video editing business. I want to
  817. 27:20stay at 10K a month in video editing. I
  818. 27:22want to enjoy my life. I want to grow my
  819. 27:23personal brand and just accept work from
  820. 27:25referrals. But the way that you want to
  821. 27:27succeed is up to you. This just gives
  822. 27:29you the freedom. So, if you're watching
  823. 27:31this in the middle of the day, start
  824. 27:33tomorrow morning. Find one person,
  825. 27:35re-edit their hook, send it to them.
  826. 27:37Right now, you want to make the
  827. 27:39community Open Schoolers list out 10
  828. 27:41people you can do videos for and then
  829. 27:43tomorrow choose one of those videos,
  830. 27:46re-edit the first 30 seconds, send the
  831. 27:48messages, and then repeat every single
  832. 27:51day for the next month and you will sign
  833. 27:54a 1 to 3K a month video editing client.
  834. 27:56If it takes more than 30 days, boohoo.
  835. 27:59Just do it cuz every video editor is
  836. 28:02going to end up quitting. You got to be
  837. 28:03the one that doesn't quit when the time
  838. 28:06gets tough. You got to be the one that
  839. 28:07gets a client and looks back and
  840. 28:09realizes that you deserve it because
  841. 28:11you've edited so many hooks for people
  842. 28:13and you finally get your break. The more
  843. 28:15hooks you edit, the better you get at
  844. 28:16editing, the better you get at outreach,
  845. 28:18and the higher chance you have of
  846. 28:20signing the next client. That is the
  847. 28:22Bali strategy.
