How I Quit Porn & Masturbation as a Muslim (My 6-Year Battle) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00I was memorizing the Quran while
- 0:01watching pornography at night, praying
- 0:03fajger in the front row while
- 0:05masturbating in the afternoon. Everyone
- 0:07saw the religious brother. Nobody saw
- 0:09the broken addict. I lived that double
- 0:11life for 6 years and it [music] almost
- 0:12destroyed me completely. If that's you
- 0:14right now, if you're living behind a
- 0:16mask while dying inside, keep watching
- 0:18because I found the way out and I'm
- 0:20giving it to you today. Let me tell you
- 0:23who I was before everything fell apart.
- 0:25I was 15 years old memorizing the Quran.
- 0:2815 paras completed. [music] Top student
- 0:30in my class. The one everyone called
- 0:32hardworking, disciplined, the religious
- 0:34brother. Parents pointed to me and said
- 0:36[music] be like him. I prayed five times
- 0:38daily. I loved reading Quran. I had
- 0:40dreams, big dreams about my future. Then
- 0:42one day my friend sent me a link. Just a
- 0:45message with a video link. I opened it,
- 0:47saw what it was, and I got angry. I told
- 0:49him off. This is haram. Don't send me
- 0:51this stuff. One week later, it was
- 0:53evening. Everyone had left the house. I
- 0:55was completely alone. And for some
- 0:57reason, I remembered that link. I don't
- 1:00know why, but I opened my messages,
- 1:01found it, and clicked. What happened
- 1:03next? I couldn't stop. I watched that
- 1:04video once, then twice. Then I lost
- 1:06count 10 times, maybe more. That one
- 1:09evening, sitting alone in an empty
- 1:11house, destroyed the next 6 years of my
- 1:13life. Masturbation started that same
- 1:15night. At first, it was once, then it
- 1:17became twice a day, then three times. It
- 1:20became my escape [music] from
- 1:21everything. Stress, boredom, loneliness,
- 1:23anger. I couldn't control it anymore.
- 1:25[music] It controlled me. And slowly
- 1:27everything I built started crumbling.
- 1:29Those 15 paras of Quran I memorized, I
- 1:32started forgetting verses. The top
- 1:33[music] student who never struggled
- 1:35became average, sometimes below average.
- 1:37I couldn't focus for 5 minutes in class.
- 1:40My body broke down, eyesight weakening,
- 1:42hair falling, energy completely gone.
- 1:44But the physical destruction was nothing
- 1:46compared to what happened to my soul. I
- 1:48stopped fearing Allah. The fear that
- 1:51used [music] to keep me from sin just
- 1:52disappeared. Prayer became empty
- 1:54movements when I even bothered to pray.
- 1:56Quran gathered dust on my shelf. I
- 1:58became Muslim by name only. On the
- 2:00outside, I became very quiet in society.
- 2:03People still saw me as that good
- 2:04religious boy. But inside, I was dying,
- 2:07[music] broken, drowning in guilt and
- 2:08shame every single day. 2022 came and I
- 2:11decided I have to quit. I tried, failed,
- 2:14tried again, failed again. 2023, 2024,
- 2:17same cycle. I tried everything I could
- 2:19think of. blocking sites, deleting apps,
- 2:21making promises, [music] crying in
- 2:22prayer. Nothing worked. Every attempt
- 2:24ended the same way. Back to pornography,
- 2:27back to masturbation, back to that
- 2:28crushing guilt. Until February 11th,
- 2:312025. [music]
- 2:32I don't know what was different about
- 2:33that day, but something inside me
- 2:34snapped. I made one final promise, not
- 2:37just to Allah, but to myself. And this
- 2:39time, I didn't rely on willpower or
- 2:41motivation. I followed 14 specific
- 2:44steps, a complete system that rewired my
- 2:46brain and broke the addiction
- 2:48permanently. Today, alhamdulillah,
- 2:49[music] I'm 270 plus days clean and
- 2:52these 14 steps are what I'm giving you
- 2:54right now. Hit subscribe because if you
- 2:56follow exactly what I did, you will
- 2:58escape. Step one, admit the truth. Say
- 3:01it out loud right now. I am addicted to
- 3:03pornography and masturbation. Not I have
- 3:05a problem, not I struggle sometimes. Say
- 3:07the full sentence. I am addicted because
- 3:09denial is your biggest enemy. I spent
- 3:12years saying I'm fine. I can stop
- 3:13whenever I want. [music] It's not that
- 3:15serious. That's the addiction talking.
- 3:17The moment you admit you're addicted,
- 3:19[music] you break its power over you.
- 3:20When I finally admitted it, I I recorded
- 3:23myself saying it on my phone. I played
- 3:25it back and heard my own voice confess
- 3:27the truth. Then I told one person I
- 3:28trusted. The shame I felt saying those
- 3:30words out loud, that shame became my
- 3:33fuel. The prophet said, "All children of
- 3:35Adam make mistakes, but the best are
- 3:36those [music] who repent." You can't
- 3:38repent from something you won't admit
- 3:39exists. So stop lying to yourself. Admit
- 3:42it right now. Once you've admitted it,
- 3:44you need to see where this road leads.
- 3:46Step two, build your negative future
- 3:48vision. Grab a notebook or open your
- 3:50phone notes right now. [music] Write
- 3:51this heading, my life in 5 years. If
- 3:54nothing changes, then write the brutal
- 3:56truth. You're still watching
- 3:58pornography, still masturbating multiple
- 4:00times a day, still hiding your phone
- 4:02like a criminal, still can't look people
- 4:03in the eye, still spiritually empty.
- 4:06Your prayers are still just movements
- 4:07with no heart. Marriage terrifies you
- 4:10because you know you're broken inside.
- 4:11You've lost 5 more years to this
- 4:13addiction and you're even weaker than
- 4:15you are today. I did this exercise in
- 4:172022 [music] and it terrified me. I saw
- 4:20myself at 30 years old still trapped in
- 4:22the same cycle, still making the same
- 4:24promises, still failing. That terror is
- 4:27what you need. Your brain needs to see
- 4:29the cliff you're driving toward. This
- 4:31isn't meant to depress you. It's meant
- 4:32to wake you up. Once I saw what was
- 4:34waiting for me, if I didn't change, I
- 4:36finally started moving. Write it down.
- 4:38Look at it. Let it scare you. Then let
- 4:41that fear become action. Step three,
- 4:44identify your trigger map. Every time
- 4:46you watch pornography and masturbate, it
- 4:48follows a pattern. You just don't see it
- 4:50yet because you're too busy feeling
- 4:51guilty. So, here's what you need to do.
- 4:53Create a trigger journal after every
- 4:55single urge, not just relapses. Write
- 4:58down these five things. What time was
- 5:00it? Where were you? What were you
- 5:02feeling? What app were you on? What was
- 5:04the exact trigger that led you to search
- 5:06on Google? When I started tracking mine,
- 5:08I discovered something. Every single
- 5:10relapse followed the same pattern. 10
- 5:12p.m. to 1:00 a.m. in my room alone
- 5:15scrolling Instagram or Tik Tok.
- 5:16Something triggering would pop up on my
- 5:18feed. Then I'd switch to my browser,
- 5:20type into Google, you know the rest.
- 5:22Once I saw the pattern, I realized I
- 5:24wasn't [music] randomly weak. I was
- 5:26walking into the same ambush every
- 5:28single night. Do this for 7 days
- 5:30minimum. Patterns will emerge. You'll
- 5:32see, oh, I relapse every time I'm
- 5:33stressed about exams or I relapse when
- 5:35I'm alone at night scrolling social
- 5:37media. This is your ambush map. And once
- 5:39you know where the ambush is, you can
- 5:41avoid it. Step four, remove visual
- 5:43triggers immediately. Now that you know
- 5:45your triggers, it's time to remove them
- 5:47with zero [music] mercy. Go through your
- 5:49Instagram right now. Unfollow every
- 5:51single account that posts triggering
- 5:53content. Every model, every influencer,
- 5:56every fitness account that's really just
- 5:57soft pornography. If it causes you to
- 6:00stumble even 1%, unfollow it. Delete Tik
- 6:03Tok if that's your trigger. Block every
- 6:05pornography site using site [music]
- 6:06blockers. Clean your YouTube algorithm
- 6:09by deleting your entire watch history. I
- 6:11unfollowed 200 accounts in one day. My
- 6:13feed looked empty for a week. But you
- 6:16know what? That emptiness saved my life
- 6:18because I wasn't seeing triggers every 5
- 6:20seconds anymore. And here's the key.
- 6:22Don't negotiate. Your brain will say,
- 6:24"But this account posts good content
- 6:26sometimes." No. If it triggers you even
- 6:28once a month, it goes. You're not
- 6:30cutting out good things. You're removing
- 6:32poison. The prophet said, "Whoever gives
- 6:35up something for the sake of Allah,
- 6:37Allah will replace it with something
- 6:38better." I gave up those accounts. Allah
- 6:41gave me peace of mind. Step five, make
- 6:44access hard. Removing triggers isn't
- 6:46[music] enough because you can still
- 6:47search for new content. So now you need
- 6:49to make access as difficult as possible.
- 6:52Here's what I did. Phone stays out of my
- 6:54bedroom at night. I charge it in the
- 6:56kitchen. App blockers installed with
- 6:57passwords. I don't know. I gave those
- 7:00passwords to my brother. Screen time
- 7:02limits turned on. [music] Private
- 7:03browsing completely disabled. Every
- 7:05single barrier I could add, I added.
- 7:08Why? Because addiction thrives on ease.
- 7:11The easier it is to access pornography,
- 7:13the more you will. But every extra step
- 7:16you add between yourself and the content
- 7:18is a chance for your brain to pause and
- 7:20think. When I had to walk to the
- 7:22kitchen, grab my [music] phone, then
- 7:24realize I can't even open the browser
- 7:26because it's blocked. That 30 second
- 7:28journey gave me time to remember why I'm
- 7:30doing this. And most of the time, the
- 7:32urge would die during that walk. Make it
- 7:35hard. Add friction. Add obstacles. Treat
- 7:38your phone like it's radioactive at
- 7:40night. [music] Step six, create an urge
- 7:42emergency plan. Here's the reality. Even
- 7:44after removing triggers and blocking
- 7:46access, urges will still hit. That's
- 7:48normal. Your brain has been getting
- 7:49dopamine from pornography [music] for
- 7:51years, it's going to crave it. So, you
- 7:53need a protocol for when that craving
- 7:55hits. Here's mine. And you need to
- 7:56memorize this right now. The moment the
- 7:59urge hits, stand up immediately. Don't
- 8:01negotiate. Don't think about it. Stand
- 8:03up. Then do 10 push-ups or 20 jumping
- 8:06jacks. Splash cold [music] water on your
- 8:08face. Leave the room you're in. Call or
- 8:10text your accountability partner and
- 8:12say, "I'm having an urge right now. This
- 8:14saved me dozens of times." Urges peak
- 8:16and crash within 15 to 20 minutes. If
- 8:19you can survive those minutes, the urge
- 8:21dies. The push-ups redirect your brain's
- 8:24energy. The cold water shocks your
- 8:26system. Saying the dua reminds you that
- 8:28Shayan is attacking. Leaving the room
- 8:30removes you from the environment. And
- 8:32texting your accountability partner
- 8:34creates immediate shame that kills
- 8:36[music] the desire. I have this written
- 8:38on a note on my wall. Emergency urge
- 8:40protocol. And whenever I felt weak, I'd
- 8:42read it and follow it exactly. It works.
- 8:44But only if you actually [music] do it.
- 8:46Step seven, replace the input. Your
- 8:49brain was spending 30 to 60 minutes
- 8:51daily consuming pornography and
- 8:53masturbating. That time doesn't
- 8:54disappear when you quit. You have to
- 8:56fill it with something or your brain
- 8:58will pull you back. So here's what I
- 9:00did. Every single minute I used to spend
- 9:03on pornography, I replaced with Quran
- 9:06skills or fitness. Used to watch 30
- 9:09minutes of pornography at night. Now I
- 9:11recite Quran for [music] 30 minutes.
- 9:13Used to scroll triggering content for an
- 9:15hour. Now I'm learning video editing.
- 9:17Used to masturbate multiple times a day.
- 9:19Now I'm working out or playing sports.
- 9:22You have to feed your brain new images,
- 9:24new dopamine sources. Because if you
- 9:27just remove pornography without
- 9:28replacing it, you'll go back. The rule I
- 9:30followed, whatever time I used to spend
- 9:32on lust, I spent double that on
- 9:34something beneficial. If I used to watch
- 9:3630 [music] minutes of pornography, I'd
- 9:38spend 1 hour on Quran and
- 9:40self-improvement. This overwhelms the
- 9:42old neural pathways and builds [music]
- 9:44new ones. Within 2 weeks, my brain
- 9:46started craving Quran the way it used to
- 9:48crave pornography. That's when I knew I
- 9:50was winning. Step eight, build daily
- 9:53micro discipline. Here's something
- 9:55nobody tells you. Beating this addiction
- 9:57isn't about one big moment of [music]
- 9:58strength. It's about small daily wins
- 10:00that compound. So, I built four
- 10:02non-negotiables into my life. And you
- 10:04need to do the same. All five prayers on
- 10:07time, especially fajger, 15 to 20
- 10:09minutes of Quran daily. Fixed sleep
- 10:12schedule, sleeping early, waking [music]
- 10:14early, 20 to 30 minute workout or walk.
- 10:17These aren't just good habits. They're
- 10:19training your willpower muscle. Every
- 10:21time you wake up for fajger when your
- 10:23body wants to sleep, you're proving to
- 10:25yourself that you can control your
- 10:26desires. Every time you read Quran, when
- 10:29you'd rather scroll, you're building
- 10:31discipline. Every time you go to the gym
- 10:33when you're tired, you're getting
- 10:35stronger mentally and physically. I
- 10:37failed at this in 2022 because I tried
- 10:39to do everything at once. So, start with
- 10:41one. Just fajger on time for 7 days.
- 10:44Then add Quran. Then add exercise. Build
- 10:47slowly. The prophet said, "The most
- 10:48beloved deeds to Allah are the
- 10:50consistent ones, even if small. Small
- 10:52daily wins beat big motivation bursts
- 10:55every single time." Step nine, use
- 10:57social accountability. This is the step
- 10:59that changed everything for me. You
- 11:01cannot beat this addiction alone. The
- 11:03wolf attacks the sheep that wanders
- 11:05alone. I tried fighting in secret for 5
- 11:07years and failed every time. Then in
- 11:10February 2025, I told one brother I
- 11:12trust completely. I said, "I'm addicted
- 11:14to pornography and masturbation. I need
- 11:17your help. We set up daily check-ins.
- 11:19Every night I text him. Clean today with
- 11:21a check mark or relapse today. [music]
- 11:23That's it. No long explanations, just
- 11:26accountability. And you know what
- 11:27happened? I didn't want to text
- 11:29relapsed. That social pressure became my
- 11:31shield. When I felt an urge, I'd think,
- 11:33"Do I want to text him tomorrow and
- 11:35admit I failed?" That thought alone
- 11:37killed the urge dozens of times. Find
- 11:40one person, a brother, a friend, someone
- 11:43you trust who won't judge you. Tell them
- 11:45your struggle. Set up daily check-ins.
- 11:48If you don't have anyone, join an online
- 11:50accountability group. There are Muslim
- 11:52Brothers groups specifically for this.
- 11:54But you have to tell someone. Shame dies
- 11:56in the light. When someone else knows
- 11:58your battle, the battle gets easier. The
- 12:00prophet said, "A believer to another
- 12:02believer is like a building. Each part
- 12:04strengthening the other." You need that
- 12:05other part. Don't fight alone. Step 10.
- 12:08Track streaks. Not shame. Get a physical
- 12:11calendar or print one out. Every clean
- 12:13day, put a big X on that date. Every
- 12:16relapse, put a small dot and restart
- 12:18counting. Your goal is simple. Longest
- 12:20streak possible. [music]
- 12:22This does something powerful to your
- 12:23brain. It shifts your focus from failure
- 12:26to progress. In 2023, I'd relapse and
- 12:29think, I'm such a failure, I'll never
- 12:31change. But with the calendar, I'd
- 12:33relapse and think, okay, I made it 7
- 12:34days. Next time, I'll make it 10. The
- 12:36dot isn't the end. It's data. It's
- 12:38feedback. And over time, the streaks get
- 12:41longer. 7 days becomes 14. 14 becomes
- 12:4421. 21 becomes 30. And here's the
- 12:47beautiful part. Every milestone you hit,
- 12:50your brain releases dopamine from
- 12:51achievement. You start getting that
- 12:53pleasure chemical from winning instead
- 12:55of from pornography. I remember hitting
- 12:5830 days clean for the first time. I
- 13:00looked at that calendar full of X marks
- 13:02and felt more proud than I'd felt in
- 13:03years. That feeling became more
- 13:05addictive than pornography ever was.
- 13:08Celebrate every milestone. 7 days. Make
- 13:11special dua. 14 days, treat yourself to
- 13:14something halal. 30 days, thank Allah
- 13:16and sajjud. 90 days, you're basically a
- 13:20different person. Track your progress.
- 13:22Celebrate your wins. And when you fall,
- 13:24get up and start again. Step 11, rewire
- 13:28the mind. This step is about permanently
- 13:30[music] changing your brain's wiring.
- 13:31For 6 years, your brain has been seeing
- 13:34pornographic images daily. Those images
- 13:36are burned into your neural pathways.
- 13:38You need to overwrite them. Here's how.
- 13:40for 30 to 60 days minimum. Flood your
- 13:43brain with Quran and Islamic [music]
- 13:44content. 30 minutes daily, 20 minutes
- 13:47Quran recitation, 10 minutes Islamic
- 13:49lectures or reading. I did this every
- 13:52single morning right after fajer before
- 13:54checking my phone before doing anything
- 13:56else. Quran first and something started
- 13:59happening. The images that used [music]
- 14:01to flash in my mind randomly, they
- 14:03started fading. The Quranic verses I was
- 14:05memorizing started replacing them. My
- 14:07brain was literally being rewired.
- 14:08[music]
- 14:09Science calls this neuroplasticity. Your
- 14:12brain can change, but it needs
- 14:14repetition and time. One day of Quran
- 14:16won't fix 6 years of pornography, but 30
- 14:18days of consistent Quran, 60 days, 90
- 14:21days. [music] Your brain structure
- 14:23actually changes. The old pathways
- 14:25weaken, new pathways strengthen. You're
- 14:27not just removing pornography, you're
- 14:29installing Quran in its place. This is
- 14:32non-negotiable. If you want permanent
- 14:34freedom, you have to reprogram [music]
- 14:35your mind. And the only thing powerful
- 14:37enough to overwrite pornography is the
- 14:39word of Allah. Step 12, manage health
- 14:42and energy. A weak body increases
- 14:44cravings. I learned this the hard way.
- 14:46The months I was sleeping 4 hours,
- 14:48eating junk food, and sitting all day,
- 14:51those were my relapse months because a
- 14:53tired, unhealthy body has zero
- 14:55willpower. So, I fixed four things, and
- 14:57you need to fix them, too. Sleep 7 to 8
- 15:00hours every night. Sleep deprivation
- 15:02destroys your prefrontal cortex, the
- 15:04part of your brain that controls
- 15:06impulses. Eat clean whole foods, not
- 15:08processed [music] junk. Processed food
- 15:10creates brain fog, which makes you weak.
- 15:13Exercise regularly, even if it's just
- 15:15walking. This burns excess energy that
- 15:17otherwise feeds urges. Fix digestive
- 15:19issues like constipation. When your body
- 15:22is uncomfortable, urges are stronger. I
- 15:24started going to bed at 10:00 p.m.
- 15:26Waking up at 5:00 a.m. for fer. Eating
- 15:28home-cooked meals. working out four
- 15:30times a week. Within 2 weeks, my urges
- 15:33decreased by half. Not because my
- 15:35willpower increased, but because my body
- 15:37wasn't constantly craving dopamine to
- 15:39fix how terrible it felt. Take care of
- 15:41your body. Your brain will follow. Step
- 15:4413. Practice fasting and discipline. The
- 15:47prophet said, "Whoever cannot afford
- 15:48marriage should fast, for it is a
- 15:50shield." I didn't understand this until
- 15:52I started fasting Mondays and Thursdays.
- 15:54[music]
- 15:54Fasting teaches your naps one critical
- 15:57lesson. I control my desires. They don't
- 15:59control me. When you can tell your body,
- 16:01I know you're hungry, but you're not
- 16:03eating until Maghreb, you're training
- 16:05willpower. I also added one weekly cold
- 16:08shower every Friday morning. 5 minutes
- 16:10of cold water. You know what that
- 16:12teaches you? I can do hard things. I can
- 16:15be uncomfortable and survive. [music]
- 16:16And when an urge would hit later that
- 16:18week, I'd remember I stood under
- 16:20freezing water for 5 minutes by choice.
- 16:23I can definitely resist this urge for 20
- 16:25minutes. These practices aren't just
- 16:27sunna. They're training. Fasting trains
- 16:30your body to obey you. Cold showers
- 16:32train your mind to embrace discomfort.
- 16:34And when you're strong mentally and
- 16:36physically, lust becomes weak. Pick 2
- 16:38days a [music] week to fast. Add one
- 16:40weekly cold shower. Your naps will learn
- 16:42who's in charge. Step 14. Have a relapse
- 16:45recovery routine. Here's the final step,
- 16:47and it's critical. If you relapse,
- 16:49[music]
- 16:50and there's a chance you might, don't
- 16:51spiral into despair. I relapsed in 2022
- 16:54and gave up for months thinking I'm too
- 16:56[music] weak. I'll never change. Don't
- 16:59do that. Have a protocol ready. The
- 17:01moment you relapse, make [music] woodoo
- 17:02and pray two rakats of taba immediately.
- 17:05Call your accountability partner right
- 17:06away and tell them. Write in your
- 17:08journal what triggered you and what
- 17:10you'll change. Delete whatever caused
- 17:12the relapse, whether it's an app, an
- 17:14account, or content. Do a 24-hour reset.
- 17:17Extra prayers, extra Quran, extra
- 17:19dicker. Then return to your plan next
- 17:21day. Allah says in the Quran, "Indeed,
- 17:23Allah loves those who are constantly
- 17:25repentant, not those who never sin,
- 17:28those who keep coming back." I relapsed
- 17:30twice in early 2022 during my journey.
- 17:33Both times I followed this protocol,
- 17:35made Taba, called my accountability
- 17:37brother, analyzed what went wrong, fixed
- 17:39it, and got back on track. Those two
- 17:42relapses didn't destroy me because I had
- 17:43a system to recover. Relapse doesn't
- 17:45mean failure. Giving up means failure.
- 17:48If you fall, get up immediately. Don't
- 17:50wait until tomorrow. Don't wallow in
- 17:52shame for days. Repent right now. Fix
- 17:55the leak. [music] Keep moving forward.
- 17:57These 14 steps took me from six years of
- 17:59addiction to 270 plus days of complete
- 18:02freedom. From watching pornography and
- 18:04masturbating multiple times a day to
- 18:05total control. They're not theories.
- 18:08They're what actually worked. And if
- 18:10they worked for me, they'll work for
- 18:11you. Comment below which step you're
- 18:13starting with tonight. Share this with a
- 18:15brother who's trapped [music] and needs
- 18:17hope. and subscribe because we're
- 18:19building better Muslims here, one video
- 18:21at a time. [music] Your 270day journey
- 18:24starts right now.
