How I'm Getting My Life Together Before 2027 — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00All right, y'all. I think we're finally
- 0:01getting to that point of the year where
- 0:02you start thinking about who you want to
- 0:03be next year, what you want your life to
- 0:05look like, what you want to accomplish
- 0:06in the new year. And honestly, I don't
- 0:08know about you, but I don't want to wait
- 0:09until January 1st to start becoming that
- 0:11person and doing those things. And I
- 0:13actually think one of the biggest
- 0:14mistakes people make when it comes to
- 0:15New Year's resolutions is setting goals
- 0:17and waiting until the new year to start
- 0:19working on those goals or to even start
- 0:21just thinking about the goals. A lot of
- 0:23people wait until January to decide what
- 0:25their goals are, who they want to
- 0:26become, what habits they want to build,
- 0:28and then they expect themselves to
- 0:29completely change their lives starting
- 0:31January 1st. It doesn't really work that
- 0:33way. I personally think you're so much
- 0:35more likely to accomplish your goals
- 0:37when you start thinking about them
- 0:38beforehand. When you give yourself time
- 0:40to really think about what you want your
- 0:41life to look like, who you want to be,
- 0:43what needs to change, what's not
- 0:44working, and then actually start
- 0:46implementing those things in your life
- 0:47before January even comes. By January
- 0:501st, some of your habits should already
- 0:51be a part of your routine. You should
- 0:53already be building momentum, and you
- 0:54should already be familiar with the
- 0:56lifestyle that you're trying to create.
- 0:57And for me, a great time to start doing
- 0:59all that is quarter four. So, as y'all
- 1:01know, we are now in September, and
- 1:03quarter four is right around the corner.
- 1:05For those of you who don't know, quarter
- 1:06four starts in October, and this is
- 1:09usually the time that I start thinking
- 1:11about all these things. I've been doing
- 1:13this for the past few years, and
- 1:14honestly, it has been a game-changer for
- 1:15me. At quarter four, I'm thinking to
- 1:17myself, what do I want the next year to
- 1:19look like? Who do I want to be? What
- 1:21things do I want to change about myself?
- 1:23What is not working for me right now?
- 1:25And what do I want to be different in
- 1:26the new year? And most importantly, what
- 1:28can I start doing right now so that I
- 1:30don't enter January expecting a new year
- 1:32to magically turn me into a new person.
- 1:34I want to spend the rest of this year
- 1:36being intentional about getting my life
- 1:38together and preparing for the new year.
- 1:40So, today I'm going to be sharing the
- 1:41main areas of my life that I'm focusing
- 1:42on between now and 2027, and just what
- 1:45I'm doing differently because I want
- 1:47January 1st to feel like a continuation
- 1:49and not the starting line. One of the
- 1:51biggest areas I'm focusing on before
- 1:542027 is my relationship with money, my
- 1:57money habits, everything concerning
- 1:58money. Because I have realized that
- 2:00getting my finances together is not just
- 2:02about making more money. It's also about
- 2:04being responsible with the money that
- 2:05you're already making. I don't want to
- 2:06keep saying I want financial growth
- 2:08while still having habits that are not
- 2:10supporting that goal. One thing that I
- 2:11have already really been doing recently
- 2:14is having separate accounts for
- 2:15different things. As an entrepreneur,
- 2:17this is super important and it's
- 2:19something that I actually started a
- 2:20while ago. I just was never consistent
- 2:22with it, so I kind of picked it back up
- 2:24recently. It just requires so much
- 2:26discipline and it requires having a
- 2:27system. Y'all know I'm always talking
- 2:29about systems. I basically have an
- 2:31account where all my income goes and
- 2:33then from there, I send the money to my
- 2:36bills account, which obviously is where
- 2:38I pay all my bills from and then I have
- 2:40a fun money account. I also have like
- 2:42savings accounts and stuff like that,
- 2:43but the fun money account is really key
- 2:46for me because I have a habit of just
- 2:50spending from that income account or the
- 2:52bills account because typically that's
- 2:53where most of the money goes. And doing
- 2:56that is dangerous because it makes you
- 2:58feel like you have more money than you
- 2:59really have. Like you can look in your
- 3:01account and see a few thousand dollars
- 3:03and think that you have a few thousand
- 3:04dollars to spend when really a lot of
- 3:06that money is already accounted for. A
- 3:08lot of that money is already assigned to
- 3:09other things, but if it's just sitting
- 3:11in one spot, you don't think about all
- 3:12of the roles that that money already has
- 3:15to fulfill. So it's just been really
- 3:17helpful for me just keeping everything
- 3:18separate and knowing how much I have to
- 3:21work with in all the different
- 3:23categories. I'm less likely to go out to
- 3:25eat if I know that I only got a couple
- 3:27hundred dollars for random spending.
- 3:29Also pertaining to money, I'm trying to
- 3:31cut back on impulse spending. I realized
- 3:34that I have a very bad habit of just
- 3:36spending on impulse and I have
- 3:38identified some of my triggers. One of
- 3:40my triggers being stress. Like whenever
- 3:43I'm stressed, I tend to just go online
- 3:46and buy things to make me feel good.
- 3:50Sometimes like we're looking for a
- 3:51feeling when we're shopping because
- 3:53we're trying to make up for a feeling
- 3:54that we already had. Yeah, I'm trying to
- 3:56stop all that. I told you on my last
- 3:58video that I have been really
- 3:59intentional about looking at my bank
- 4:01statements and actually paying attention
- 4:02to where my money is going because for
- 4:04the last few months, I've been having
- 4:06this consistent conversation with my
- 4:07boyfriend about how I know like what my
- 4:11bills are and I know what my expenses
- 4:13are for the most part every month, but I
- 4:15just know for a fact that there are a
- 4:17bunch of little things coming out of my
- 4:18account that I don't really know about.
- 4:20actually brings me to today's sponsor,
- 4:22Rocket Money. Thank you so much Rocket
- 4:23Money for sponsoring today's video. Like
- 4:25I mentioned before, getting your
- 4:26finances in order is not just about
- 4:28checking your balance. You have to
- 4:30understand and know where your money is
- 4:32going on a consistent basis. And Rocket
- 4:34Money has been very helpful with that
- 4:35for me. It puts your finances in one
- 4:37place and it automatically tracks all of
- 4:39your subscriptions, which is something
- 4:40that I definitely needed. Y'all, I found
- 4:43out that all this time, I've had two
- 4:45Stars subscriptions. I canceled one like
- 4:47last year and apparently I've been
- 4:49getting charged for a whole different
- 4:50account. We all have those random
- 4:52subscriptions that we sign up for and
- 4:54forget about. The bigger issue for me is
- 4:55really my spending. When I'm stressed or
- 4:57having a bad day, I will impulsively
- 4:59shop, just buying random things that I
- 5:00probably didn't need. And then y'all
- 5:02know going out to eat is a huge one for
- 5:04me. But Rocket Money spending insights
- 5:06help me to see all those patterns by
- 5:08category so I cannot pretend like I
- 5:10don't know where my money's going. I can
- 5:12actually see what I'm spending and set
- 5:14goals and budgets to help keep myself in
- 5:16check and hold myself accountable. And
- 5:17that's really what I'm trying to do
- 5:18before 2027. Be more intentional with my
- 5:20money instead of using shopping and fine
- 5:22dining as my emotional support system.
- 5:24So, if you're also trying to get your
- 5:25finances together, go to

- 5:37more features when you sign up for

- 5:41Money for sponsoring today's video. I'm
- 5:42trying to move away from paying for I
- 5:45don't use it as often as I used to, but
- 5:47I'm really trying to get to a point
- 5:48where that is just not one of the first
- 5:51things I think of whenever I'm
- 5:52contemplating a purchase. Cuz it's real
- 5:54easy to see something that's like $100
- 5:57and be like, "Hmm, I have this $100, but
- 6:00I'd much rather pay 25 right now, so I'm
- 6:02just going to use Pay in 4." I know a
- 6:03lot of people say, "Oh, you shouldn't be
- 6:05using Pay in 4 if you don't have the
- 6:07money to actually pay for the item in
- 6:09full." But nobody really talks about
- 6:11when you actually do have the money and
- 6:13you just prefer to break it into four
- 6:15payments, but you constantly do that and
- 6:17over time you're spending way more money
- 6:19than you would have if you had just paid
- 6:20for that one item in full. Like think
- 6:22about it. If you go to the store and you
- 6:23see something for $100, you think to
- 6:25yourself, "Hmm, I can split this in
- 6:27four, so I'm only going to be paying $25
- 6:28for this item." Yes, you're paying $25
- 6:31for that item, but because you only
- 6:32spent 25 instead of 100, you're going to
- 6:34go somewhere else and spend more money.
- 6:36You might spend $200. But y'all get
- 6:38where I'm going with this. It doesn't
- 6:39really work. Number two, this is another
- 6:41one that I have kind of recently started
- 6:43implementing, but I'm still working on
- 6:45my system for this. So it's something
- 6:47that again I am buckling down on in Q4,
- 6:51and that's making better use of my time
- 6:53and my potential. As an entrepreneur, I
- 6:55have a lot of flexibility with my time.
- 6:58Y'all know I'm always talking about how
- 6:59I am a lash tech, I'm a content creator,
- 7:02I'm a mom, I'm a fitness girly, like I
- 7:04just do a lot of things. And I'm not
- 7:05going to lie, a lot of the time I use
- 7:08that as an excuse for me not doing a lot
- 7:12of the things that I could be doing.
- 7:14Like I really be convincing myself that
- 7:16I don't have time to do a lot of things,
- 7:18and I actually have quite a good amount
- 7:20of time because I have time to be laying
- 7:21around, I have time to be taking naps, I
- 7:23have time to watch series, I have time
- 7:25to be on the phone. So I got time,
- 7:27especially because I make my own
- 7:28schedule. I don't do lashes nowhere near
- 7:31as much as I used to. And granted, yes,
- 7:33I do a lot of other things that I wasn't
- 7:36doing back then when I did have a lot of
- 7:38clients, but I still have a pretty good
- 7:40amount of free time that I don't
- 7:42maximize if I'm being 100% honest. I had
- 7:45a reality check with myself last week
- 7:48and I just told myself like, "Look, you
- 7:51say you want this life, but you are not
- 7:54acting like you want this life. You say
- 7:57you want to be a full-time content
- 7:59creator at some point, but you don't
- 8:01necessarily act like that." With all the
- 8:02free time that you have right now, you
- 8:03should be treating this like it is your
- 8:059-5. And you know that's that's hard for
- 8:07a lot of people to do, right? You know
- 8:09it's hard for a lot of us to actually
- 8:12look at ourselves in the mirror and
- 8:13admit that we are not doing nearly as
- 8:15much as we could be doing. Now, I'm not
- 8:17saying I need to be burning myself out,
- 8:19but I could be going way harder, for
- 8:21real. So, I recently came up with this
- 8:23like 90-day challenge where I really
- 8:27mapped out my days like I am a full-time
- 8:31content creator. I guess I have to put
- 8:33all my other stuff in my schedule as
- 8:35well, but downtime and free time does
- 8:37not necessarily mean laying around doing
- 8:40whatever I want. Like, I have this habit
- 8:42of thinking that making my own schedule
- 8:45means just giving myself a whole lot of
- 8:46time to do whatever the heck I want to
- 8:48do. No, there's money to be made, okay?
- 8:50There are opportunities to be had. Not
- 8:52only am I like doing content-related
- 8:55things every single day, but I am
- 8:57challenging myself to post every day
- 8:59except Sunday. Now, for those of you who
- 9:01don't know, I have two Instagram
- 9:03accounts. One, my main Instagram
- 9:05account. Two, my fitness account. Then I
- 9:08have TikTok and then I also have
- 9:10YouTube. That's four platforms. I'm not
- 9:12posting on all four platforms every day.
- 9:13I'm just not doing it. So, I created
- 9:16this little system that I felt like I
- 9:17could be consistent with and it's
- 9:18basically posting three times a week on
- 9:21one Instagram, three times a week on the
- 9:23other one, and then all six days on
- 9:26TikTok. And then of course I post on
- 9:27YouTube once a week. So, yeah, that's
- 9:29that's been a joy so far, but yeah, it's
- 9:32just my way of really challenging myself
- 9:34and locking in to see what difference it
- 9:37can make. If you have been watching me
- 9:39on YouTube for years, then you know at
- 9:42one point I was trying to juggle all the
- 9:43platforms. And then eventually, I told
- 9:45myself like, "Okay, just pick one
- 9:47platform. Find a way to like be on
- 9:50autopilot with that one before you start
- 9:51adding in the other ones." And I kind of
- 9:53did that, but I haven't really been
- 9:54consistent on any platform aside from
- 9:57YouTube. And the other day, I was trying
- 9:59to remember why I stopped really caring
- 10:02about Instagram and TikTok. And I
- 10:03remembered the exact moment that I
- 10:05stopped caring. I remember telling
- 10:07myself, "YouTube is the main priority
- 10:09because I see the most return on my
- 10:11investment. I film a video, I edit the
- 10:13video, I post the video." Because I am a
- 10:15monetized creator on YouTube, I'm
- 10:17getting paid for that video regardless.
- 10:20And I always felt like, "What's the
- 10:21point of posting way more often on
- 10:23TikTok and Instagram to not get anything
- 10:25out of it?" Like, let's be so for real,
- 10:27it got to translate into dollars at some
- 10:29point. But then recently, I realized
- 10:30there's no way it could ever translate
- 10:32into dollars like brand deals, hello,
- 10:34sponsor- sponsorships, stuff like that.
- 10:35If I'm not posting on those platforms
- 10:37consistently, I have to still be showing
- 10:39up. Then I also remembered that each
- 10:41platform serves a different purpose. At
- 10:43the end of the day, I could be using my
- 10:45short-form platforms to bring people
- 10:46over here to YouTube if this is really
- 10:48my main platform. So yeah, maybe there
- 10:50are some content creators in the
- 10:51building who need to hear that. Even if
- 10:52you're not a content creator, you can
- 10:54still learn from this because the lesson
- 10:56here is that you got to make time for
- 10:59what you want. At the end of the day, no
- 11:00matter what your excuse is for why
- 11:02you're not doing the things that you
- 11:03could be doing to push yourself further
- 11:05in life, it's an excuse. So sorry. I
- 11:07know we all have different things going
- 11:10on. Some people have worse things going
- 11:12on than others, but at the end of the
- 11:13day, they're all excuses. I'm so sorry.
- 11:16You're not going to be able to change
- 11:17your life if you don't accept the fact
- 11:19that you have just been making excuses
- 11:20and just not doing what you need to do
- 11:22to get ahead. I don't want to walk into
- 11:242027 knowing that I spent another year
- 11:27just sitting on potential that I could
- 11:28have developed. I want to be the best
- 11:29content creator I can be, not someone
- 11:31who just posts when it's convenient. I
- 11:32don't want to be the girl who's only
- 11:34present on YouTube. I don't want to be
- 11:35the girl who's only consistent on
- 11:37YouTube. I want all the girls to know
- 11:39me. I want people to be able to point me
- 11:40out from any platform. And I just want
- 11:41to see what happens when I fully apply
- 11:44myself. Another thing I really want to
- 11:45focus on going into the rest of this
- 11:47year is creating more than I consume.
- 11:50Now, this is something that is really
- 11:52important considering what my second
- 11:55goal was. But, one of my limiting
- 11:58beliefs, I guess, or one of the things
- 12:00that kind of stops me from really
- 12:03putting my best foot forward to try to
- 12:05achieve full-time content creation is
- 12:08the thought that I'm going to have to be
- 12:09chronically online. Like, there are days
- 12:12where I just want to shut off. Honestly,
- 12:13there are a lot of days where I'm like,
- 12:15I want to take a break from social media
- 12:16altogether. Like, I just I don't want to
- 12:18be on social media for like a week. And
- 12:19I feel like I just can't do that because
- 12:21I'm a content creator. Hello, like I got
- 12:23to be online. I got to be posting stuff.
- 12:25But, I'm realizing that I can control
- 12:29how much I consume. Like, I don't have
- 12:31to be online 24/7 just because I post on
- 12:35social media. Yes, I do have to engage
- 12:36with other creators. Yes, I do like
- 12:38engaging with other creators and just,
- 12:40you know, just seeing what's going on
- 12:42and stuff like that. But, I don't have
- 12:44to be glued to my phone 24/7. This
- 12:46requires systems though. Like, this
- 12:48requires boundaries. And that's really
- 12:50what I'm going to have to work on in Q4.
- 12:52Like, finding a way to be present online
- 12:55without feeling like I'm living on these
- 12:57platforms. And without feeling like I'm
- 12:59frying my brain from scrolling
- 13:01consistently throughout the day. I don't
- 13:02want to be constantly chasing dopamine
- 13:04hits. And like I said, frying my brain.
- 13:06Cuz let's be real, that's why a lot of
- 13:08us think simple tasks are so hard these
- 13:10days. We're so used to just sitting all
- 13:13day and doing what's easy. Scrolling on
- 13:15TikTok, scrolling on Instagram. I don't
- 13:17want to be mindlessly just taking things
- 13:19in all day just because this is my job.
- 13:21And it doesn't have to be that way.
- 13:23There can be balance. And last but not
- 13:25least, the last thing I'm really
- 13:26focusing on before 2027 is getting back
- 13:29to taking care of myself. And I know
- 13:31some of y'all are probably like, "What?
- 13:33Girl, you're always talking about how
- 13:35you indulge in self-care and how you
- 13:37take pride in your appearance and how
- 13:38you just do all the things that would
- 13:40relate to taking care of yourself." Yes,
- 13:42I know I preach those things often and
- 13:44yes, I do those things, but I'm not
- 13:46saying get back to taking care of myself
- 13:48in all the obvious ways. Yes, I do get
- 13:52dressed almost every day or at least put
- 13:54on something presentable. I do make sure
- 13:57my hair looks nice. I do make sure my
- 13:58nails are done. But, there are a lot of
- 13:59like small things that I have stopped
- 14:02doing that I used to love doing. Things
- 14:04that really used to make me feel good. I
- 14:05think we forget that self-care is more
- 14:08than just like worrying about your
- 14:09appearance and going to the gym and
- 14:12stuff like that. Self-care is also rest.
- 14:14[music] Like, yeah, I told y'all I do be
- 14:16taking naps more often than I should,
- 14:18but well, I'm not just talking about
- 14:19that rest. I'm talking about like even
- 14:21creating an evening routine that really
- 14:23feels good to me. Not just an evening
- 14:26routine that is productive. Like,
- 14:29there's a difference. I want to
- 14:30romanticize things again. I remember I
- 14:33used to do like a six-step skincare
- 14:36routine and I never skipped a night of
- 14:38skincare. I used to look forward to
- 14:39doing my skincare every night. I used to
- 14:41make skincare videos all the time. The
- 14:42other day I was scrolling through my
- 14:44platforms and I'm like, "When the heck
- 14:46is the last time I posted a skincare
- 14:47video?" I have really cut my skincare
- 14:49routine down to like a three-step
- 14:51process. And there's nothing wrong with
- 14:53that. Like, you don't have to be a
- 14:54maximalist. You don't have to have a
- 14:55million-step skincare routine, but one,
- 14:58my skin looked a whole lot better when I
- 15:01had all those steps. Not going to lie.
- 15:02And two, I was consistent at that time.
- 15:04Like I said, I was never skipping a
- 15:06night. I'm not going to lie. I be
- 15:07skipping nights all the time. Am I going
- 15:09to walk out the house in the morning
- 15:10without washing my face? No, but like,
- 15:11yeah, I be tripping sometimes. But, like
- 15:13that was a part of my wind-down routine,
- 15:14especially as a mom. Oh my gosh. And
- 15:17even like getting back to reading. Y'all
- 15:19know like in the The few months of this
- 15:20year, I was reading consistently. I got
- 15:22through so many books, but like once I
- 15:24finished the Delgado series by Jacquelyn
- 15:27J, I did not touch another book. I'm
- 15:28actually going to download one tonight
- 15:30because I just want to start reading
- 15:31again. Like I want to get back to like
- 15:32having a reader's high. I want to be
- 15:35able to like cook random meals and just
- 15:37take my time and watch a show while I
- 15:39cook or listen to music while I cook. I
- 15:41want to just turn on music and just
- 15:42dance sometimes. Like things that I used
- 15:45to do that I don't really do anymore.
- 15:46All that stuff is considered self-care
- 15:48to me. Slowing down, getting massages,
- 15:50is drinking wine on a random Friday
- 15:52night. Going on solo dates. Like these
- 15:55are things that I just miss. And when I
- 15:58think about like the times where I was
- 16:00like really enjoying my little bubble,
- 16:03those are the things that I was doing.
- 16:05And I I want to get back to that. That's
- 16:07something that I really want to work on
- 16:08in Q4 so that in 2027, I am that girl
- 16:12again. Basically just doing the little
- 16:13things that make ordinary life feel
- 16:15special. I don't really want my life to
- 16:17be like work towards a goal, achieve it,
- 16:20and just jump straight into the next
- 16:21goal, and don't really worry about
- 16:22anything else. I want to actually enjoy
- 16:24my life while I'm building it. So, these
- 16:26are some of the biggest areas that I'm
- 16:27focusing on between now and 2027. And
- 16:30honestly, I'm not expecting myself to
- 16:31transform my whole life in the next few
- 16:33months. That is not the goal. The goal
- 16:35is to use the rest of this year as
- 16:37preparation. To start getting honest
- 16:39about the areas where I know I could be
- 16:40doing better. To start building some of
- 16:41the habits that I want to take into next
- 16:43year. To make changes now instead of
- 16:45waiting for January to give me
- 16:46permission to change my life. I don't
- 16:48know about you, but I don't want to
- 16:49spend the rest of this year just
- 16:50coasting. Q4 should be your runway into
- 16:522027. By the time the new year comes,
- 16:54you should be continuing something that
- 16:55you already started. And that's really
- 16:57what I want y'all to take away from this
- 16:58video. You don't have to wait for a new
- 16:59year, a new month, a Monday, or just a
- 17:02perfect time to start whatever it is
- 17:04you're trying to start. You don't have
- 17:05to wait for the [music] perfect time to
- 17:07become a version of yourself that you've
- 17:09always wanted to be. You can start
- 17:10figuring out who that person is now on
- 17:12any given day. And by the time everybody
- 17:14else is trying to figure out their new
- 17:15year's resolutions in January, you can
- 17:17be that person who already has momentum.
- 17:19So, I want to know in the comments,
- 17:21what's one area of your life that you
- 17:23want to start working on before 2027?
- 17:24And with that being said, thank you all
- 17:26so much for watching. Make sure you
- 17:27like, comment, and subscribe, as always,
- 17:29and I will see you in the next one. Bye.
