- 0:00Hello everyone, welcome back to my
- 0:02channel and welcome to a new vlog.
- 0:04Today, I thought I would just take you
- 0:06through a day where I share all of the
- 0:09things that I try and do to be
- 0:11intentional with money, how I save
- 0:13money,
- 0:14different tips and tricks that I've
- 0:16learned over the years. If you're new
- 0:18here, I love sharing real life and real
- 0:20numbers, life in my 40s. I have this
- 0:23mindset of let's save with purpose,
- 0:26let's also spend with joy, and I love to
- 0:29share that here. So, if that's content
- 0:31you're interested in, don't forget to
- 0:33subscribe, and let's jump right into the
- 0:35vlog. Budgeting is the number one way.
- 0:38Having a plan for your money helps you
- 0:41so much stay accountable, be able to put
- 0:43money into areas that you actually
- 0:46value. When you sit down and you plan
- 0:48where your money's going to go, it just
- 0:50creates so much more, and I think the
- 0:53ultimate intention around money. I use a
- 0:55digital spreadsheet. I will link it in
- 0:57my description box. It's just one that I
- 0:59purchased on Etsy, and I really enjoy
- 1:01it. I budget in a zero-based budget way,
- 1:03which means every single month before
- 1:05the month starts, I look at our
- 1:06projected income, I do all of our bills
- 1:09out of that income, all of our expenses
- 1:11out of that income, and then I do my
- 1:14savings, so my sinking funds, which are
- 1:17basically small little pockets of money
- 1:19that go towards larger categories, like
- 1:22travel, sports, home, Christmas, things
- 1:26like that that I know we're going to
- 1:28spend in, and are areas that we value.
- 1:30And then whatever's left over, long-term
- 1:32savings and investing. It's really
- 1:34intentionally kind of walking through
- 1:36each of those areas, and then being left
- 1:39with zero, and then
- 1:41throughout the month, that's the plan
- 1:43that I made. I really, really try and
- 1:45stick to that. I do leave a little bit
- 1:47of a buffer just in case, because
- 1:49sometimes bills are higher than I
- 1:50expected, sometimes I do a little bit
- 1:53extra spending, so I need to make sure
- 1:56that I'm not going into debt. Just
- 1:58creates change in so many different
- 2:00areas because when you're stressed about
- 2:02money, that shows up in your marriage,
- 2:05in your relationship with your children,
- 2:07friendships. You're always on edge. I've
- 2:09been there. That's why I'm definitely
- 2:12um, you know, preaching to the choir,
- 2:15but it's it's really it's just
- 2:19it really does change your perspective
- 2:22in in so many different areas. Sinking
- 2:25funds are amazing because it gives you
- 2:27the flexibility and freedom to still
- 2:30spend money cuz this is life and I am
- 2:33definitely not the person that wants to
- 2:35hold on to everything. I want to, yes,
- 2:38hold on to some, but I also want to
- 2:40enjoy and spend time with my family and
- 2:42make memories and create a beautiful
- 2:44home and do all these things. And I do
- 2:47believe that both can exist together.
- 2:50Sinking funds are a great way to do that
- 2:53without going into debt or feeling the
- 2:55pressure of where am I going to find
- 2:58this money. Starting with this morning,
- 3:00I am about to log in and track our
- 3:04finances. This is something that I do
- 3:07every single morning. It takes me 5
- 3:09minutes. I go through our bank accounts,
- 3:13our visas, make sure that I'm tracking
- 3:16everything in our budget. This just
- 3:18helps me stay accountable. It helps me
- 3:20know, I'm going to know exactly how much
- 3:23I have left for our groceries, gas,
- 3:26everything like that. And if I need to
- 3:28make adjustments, then I make
- 3:29adjustments. So, this is definitely
- 3:32something that I do that really does
- 3:34help me
- 3:35stay on track. And I've shared this
- 3:37before, but I am coming from a place of
- 3:41I knew nothing about money, how to
- 3:44manage it, how to save it. Most of my
- 3:47younger adult years were spent literally
- 3:50my checks would come in and my checks
- 3:53would go out. [laughter] Money for so
- 3:54long for me was very complicated. Like I
- 3:57felt overwhelming and I just like
- 3:58wouldn't look at our accounts. I
- 4:00wouldn't check in. I wouldn't know
- 4:01what's going on and it just felt too
- 4:04much for me and I really had to learn
- 4:06and like simplify money and that's what
- 4:09I love to share. At this point in my
- 4:11morning, that is what I'm going to do.
- 4:12I'm going to go in and I'm going to
- 4:14track see how everything is looking in
- 4:17the budget. Have my laptop here.
- 4:19Yesterday I was looking
- 4:22Maybe if I knew my password, that would
- 4:23help. I was looking at it yesterday and
- 4:25it looked great. I was getting a little
- 4:28bit close on the grocery budget. So I
- 4:30need to be mindful of that. I'm just
- 4:32about to head to Costco. I'm filming a
- 4:34weekend reset video that will be out
- 4:37after this one. So I'm in that video I'm
- 4:39going to be sharing a Costco run because
- 4:42I do try and get to Costco once every
- 4:44couple of months just to stock up.
- 4:47So I need to be mindful while I'm in
- 4:48Costco and try to not spend
- 4:52a million dollars, which we all know is
- 4:54very difficult in Costco. But yeah, so
- 4:57that is what I'm going to do. I'm just
- 4:58going to go through and track everything
- 5:01and see how everything is shaping up.
- 5:04And yeah, I'll just pop in throughout
- 5:05the day and share like in the moment
- 5:08simple ways that I really try and create
- 5:10intention around money, ways that I save
- 5:14all little tips and tricks like that. In
- 5:16the car and I'm heading to pick up
- 5:18something from Facebook Marketplace. I
- 5:20purchased these two end tables for my
- 5:22son's room, $80, which is I think a
- 5:26steal of a deal for two end tables. They
- 5:29look like they're in really good
- 5:30condition. Once I pick them up, I will
- 5:32let you know. Another way that I just
- 5:34try and be intentional with money and
- 5:37save where I can is shopping second
- 5:39hand. I love thrifting. I love Facebook
- 5:42Marketplace. We have gotten some
- 5:45beautiful things over the years by doing
- 5:49second hand shopping. My favorite thing
- 5:51of all is getting those things that I
- 5:53would have paid
- 5:55double, even triple on. Getting those
- 5:57items second hand
- 5:59is like my favorite thing ever. I feel
- 6:01so happy and I I've learned this about
- 6:04myself. I
- 6:06I do I do love to be
- 6:10frugal and I love to be frugal in these
- 6:12areas of my life because I do love to
- 6:17enjoy my life in the other areas like
- 6:19traveling, experiences. I love being
- 6:21able to go to a concerts and doing
- 6:25little weekends away, you know, at our
- 6:27favorite places, traveling. I love to
- 6:30save on these things so that I can put
- 6:33that money towards those other things
- 6:35and I think it's really important to to
- 6:38like figure out what your values are. I
- 6:40know for so long I didn't really know
- 6:44this about myself. I think it takes like
- 6:45self discovery and and trial and error
- 6:48too. Like when I would purchase things,
- 6:52you know, that maybe weren't in line
- 6:53with my values, the feeling that I would
- 6:55get after, I think that really told me
- 6:57that this isn't really an area that you
- 7:01want to spend in and that's okay. So, I
- 7:05think learning learning that about
- 7:07yourself and obviously your partner,
- 7:08your family, like what are the things
- 7:10that we value and are we willing to say
- 7:12no or look for ways to be more cost
- 7:16effective and frugal to then be able to
- 7:19say yes to those other things. I think
- 7:21it's like my favorite thing ever. Yeah,
- 7:24so
- 7:25with that said, I'm going to head now.
- 7:27It's about a 25 minute drive, so I'm
- 7:30going to listen to some music, enjoy a
- 7:32country drive. It's all backroads it
- 7:34looks like and we're going to go pick up
- 7:36these end tables [music]
- 7:38and I'm excited.
- 7:39>> Hello to Mona.
- 7:43I can't [music] shake this empty feeling
- 7:45[singing]
- 7:47behind the ghost.
- 7:50We stand [singing] on the opposite
- 7:53shore.
- 7:54Hello, Mona.
- 7:56>> [music]
- 7:58>> I reach through misty
- 8:01>> [music]
- 8:01>> My only hope.
- 8:05I look [music] for the things I don't
- 8:08know.
- 8:11>> [music]
- 8:20[music]
- 8:23>> For all in this,
- 8:26I stand alone.
- 8:28>> Love how the tables turned out. I can't
- 8:30believe the just the pristine condition
- 8:34of them. So beautiful. And just goes to
- 8:38show you
- 8:39saving money on these everyday things.
- 8:42Actually, I wanted to look up how much I
- 8:44saved. Can't find them on the Canadian
- 8:46site, but they're $129 USD on the
- 8:49American site. So,
- 8:52I saved a lot of money considering I got
- 8:54both for $80. So, that was a steal of a
- 8:57deal.
- 8:58And while I was out cuz I was in a
- 9:01different town, as I'm driving by the
- 9:02thrift store, I'm like, I should pop in
- 9:04and see if I can find anything. And I
- 9:07did. So excited. I found these perfect
- 9:10condition almost like a pinky lilac for
- 9:13my daughter Converse. They were $6.99
- 9:16and I had a 20% off coupon. So, I saved
- 9:20some additional money on top of that.
- 9:22They are her size. They're perfect. And
- 9:24she actually mentioned to me a little
- 9:26while ago that she wanted a new pair of
- 9:28Converse. Her current shoes that she's
- 9:31worn throughout the school year are like
- 9:33they're trash. They're done. She's given
- 9:36them a good run for their money, so she
- 9:38needed a new pair, and that's what I try
- 9:40and do when I shop second hand and
- 9:42thrift is think about things that we
- 9:46need or that I would need to replace
- 9:48anyway. If I see something, I grab it,
- 9:51especially when it comes to the kids
- 9:53because they grow out of things so
- 9:54quickly. They burn through things really
- 9:56quickly. So, it was a win today. I feel
- 9:58like I did really, really well. I got
- 10:00things that I needed and I didn't have
- 10:03to
- 10:05definitely saved a ton of money. I can't
- 10:08wait for her to get home from school so
- 10:09I can share those with her.
- 10:11But, yes, so that is all on second hand
- 10:13shopping. Now, I am sitting here on my
- 10:16front porch. It is the most gorgeous
- 10:18summer day, even though it's not
- 10:20technically summer yet.
- 10:23It's like there's this breeze, sunny,
- 10:26the sky is blue. It's so gorgeous, and I
- 10:29decided to sit out here and do my meal
- 10:31plan. And I think anyone that talks
- 10:33about saving money, being intentional
- 10:35with money, will mention meal planning
- 10:37cuz it is such an amazing way to save
- 10:40money. It takes the stress off of me. I
- 10:42don't have to think about what I'm going
- 10:44to make my family for dinner. I have
- 10:47ingredients and plans for the week
- 10:50ahead. What I like to do is go through
- 10:52fridge, pantry, what do we have to use
- 10:55up? I am not the person that like has a
- 10:58ton of stock in my freezer, in my
- 11:01fridge. It's just not something that I
- 11:03do. I know that there's pros and cons to
- 11:06it. It's just not something that I've
- 11:08ever gotten into. I kind of just buy
- 11:10what we need, and then if I do have some
- 11:13extra room in my budget and something's
- 11:14on sale, I will absolutely like buy an
- 11:17extra pack of chicken breast or steaks
- 11:19or whatever it is that I know we're
- 11:21going to eventually eat, but I'm not
- 11:23someone who has like tons of stock. It's
- 11:25just Yeah, I just don't do that. So, I
- 11:28like to go through my fridge and pantry.
- 11:30What do we have? What do I need to use
- 11:32up? And then I make meals around that.
- 11:35And then once I do that, I just kind of
- 11:38will make up some different meals. I
- 11:40make a lot of the same things every
- 11:42single week just because I've got two
- 11:45two of my three kids are a little bit
- 11:46picky, so I have them to think about.
- 11:49And I just want everyone fed at the end
- 11:52of the day. You have to let me know if
- 11:53you relate to that. Like
- 11:55I just want to make stuff that everyone
- 11:57enjoys and everyone's fed and we can
- 12:00just enjoy our evening. I don't want the
- 12:01stress of having to like make something
- 12:03separate or any of that. And that really
- 12:05helps me just again create intention and
- 12:08I'm not just buying a bunch of stuff.
- 12:11And then A gets thrown out and B I had I
- 12:15still don't know what I'm making. It's
- 12:17just a plan of what's for dinner.
- 12:20Another thing kind of two part to that
- 12:23is I shop online. I do an online grocery
- 12:26order. Pros and cons to that as well. I
- 12:28know some people really enjoy grocery
- 12:29shopping.
- 12:30It's not my favorite thing to do. I
- 12:32don't love it. I love going to Costco.
- 12:35Like I love trying different grocery
- 12:37stores like Trader Joe's. Like love
- 12:39that.
- 12:40But the physical act of going grocery
- 12:43shopping every single week is very
- 12:45daunting to me and I just I also find I
- 12:49spend more money because I'll walk by an
- 12:51end cap and I see something really
- 12:53interesting and I'll grab it or
- 12:56I don't know. Also when you I order
- 12:58groceries online at home, I'm here at
- 13:00home. I'm able to see what we have. If
- 13:03I'm missing something, I can quickly go
- 13:05look in the fridge or pantry and add to
- 13:07my grocery list. So I'm going to spend
- 13:09some time doing that right now and then
- 13:11I will catch up with you a little bit
- 13:13later cuz one thing I'm going to do
- 13:14today is color my hair and a few of you
- 13:17asked in a video that I shared a little
- 13:20while ago where I mentioned that I do my
- 13:22own hair that I share how I do it. So I
- 13:25will include that in this video. Good
- 13:27morning, everyone. It's the next day.
- 13:29I'm about to color my hair. It's super
- 13:32simple, and I just use a couple things.
- 13:35So, we're going to do it together. I am
- 13:37not a professional. It is so
- 13:39cost-effective. I stocked up. Sally's
- 13:42was having a deal. It was like buy one,
- 13:45get one free. So, I bought a ton of what
- 13:49I need,
- 13:50and I keep it here in my drawer in my
- 13:52bathroom, and it's ready for me when I
- 13:54need to do it. Because I I'll show you.
- 13:57I have
- 13:59Can you see that my my silver sparkles?
- 14:02>> [gasps]
- 14:03>> It's come in pretty quickly since
- 14:06turning 40. I had like a few odd ones,
- 14:08and then they all just started coming
- 14:10in. So, at this point in my life, I I do
- 14:13want to color them. Maybe not forever,
- 14:16but for right now, it is what I like to
- 14:18do. So,
- 14:20here's what I use. I bought one of these
- 14:23bowls from Sally's. I think it was like
- 14:25two or three dollars. I have this, and
- 14:27then I have a color brush. Also from
- 14:31Sally's. It was also a couple bucks. So,
- 14:33I have this. And then in my little
- 14:37handy-dandy dollar store organizer, I
- 14:39have my hair color, which we'll go
- 14:41through, developer, which you need to
- 14:44develop the color, and then they gave me
- 14:47this little gray magic that I also mix
- 14:49in to my coloring as well. And then I
- 14:51have an after color treatment that I put
- 14:54in my hair once I'm done rinsing it out.
- 14:57The color I use, which is closest to my
- 14:59natural color, is dark natural brown.
- 15:03It's the Ion Demi Permanent Hair Cream,
- 15:07and it's 3N. So, I will show that to you
- 15:11in case you want to like screenshot it
- 15:13if you have similar hair color to me.
- 15:14Covers really nicely. The biggest tip I
- 15:17have, and this is what the lovely woman
- 15:19at Sally's told me, is if you buy demi
- 15:23it means it's not permanent. So, it just
- 15:26kind of washes out over time. So,
- 15:29instead of having like a growth line if
- 15:31you don't match it cuz matching it
- 15:33exactly is going to be a little bit
- 15:35hard, but if it's not an exact match,
- 15:38instead of having that harsh line as
- 15:40your hair grows, it just naturally
- 15:43fades.
- 15:44So, it's awesome. In my container, I
- 15:46have one of these hair dyes
- 15:48with half a bottle of this 4-oz
- 15:51developer. It's equal parts developer
- 15:55and color, which makes it so simple. And
- 15:57then I'm just going to mix it up. It's
- 15:59actually kind of fun. Little bit of a
- 16:01creative
- 16:03creative time. And then once it's mixed,
- 16:06I go ahead and add my gray magic. First,
- 16:09I thought this gray magic was going to
- 16:10be a powder. And that was very messy
- 16:13because it's actually
- 16:15like a liquid that comes out like that.
- 16:18So, I was like opening it like you know,
- 16:21I was opening a powder and it got
- 16:23everywhere. So, I'm super careful now
- 16:27when I take that out of the pack. And
- 16:29then I just mix that in really
- 16:31carefully. Once it's all mixed, it looks
- 16:34like this. And I just part my hair.
- 16:39I start with my roots cuz that's where I
- 16:41want to deposit most of the color.
- 16:44And I just paint it on. It's actually
- 16:47very fun.
- 16:49Get a podcast on.
- 16:52Listen to something, watch a YouTube
- 16:54video.
- 16:57And just enjoy
- 17:00some painting.
- 17:01If you put some Vaseline along your
- 17:04hairline, it helps with the color not
- 17:06stick to your forehead and it does work.
- 17:09So, I'm just going to be really, really
- 17:10careful. I'm just
- 17:12making sure I'm putting on like a good
- 17:15amount
- 17:16here.
- 17:18And then I take like I go by I'd say
- 17:22like an inch
- 17:24an inch sections
- 17:27and I just make sure I go all the way to
- 17:31the end.
- 17:33And then I just
- 17:36color.
- 17:38And I actually also forgot to put gloves
- 17:41on. I'm usually a little bit more put
- 17:42together when I do this, but I think
- 17:45showing showing you guys is making me
- 17:48forget a few things. We'll repeat that
- 17:52all the way across
- 17:55my head. Okay, put my gloves on.
- 17:58Definitely want to wear gloves because
- 18:01this stuff sticks to you.
- 18:04Just trying to get like an even
- 18:08There we go. This is where a lot of my
- 18:09gray is.
- 18:12A little extra here.
- 18:27>> You are my sunshine [music] on a rainy
- 18:30day.
- 18:33You are the one who
- 18:35takes my breath away.
- 18:38In the vast skies of love,
- 18:41I'm free
- 18:44as [music] long as [singing] you're here
- 18:47with me.
- 18:53>> [music]
- 18:53>> Now that I've gone all the way across my
- 18:56head, I like to go in and do like a
- 19:00really crisp clean
- 19:04line all across here just to make sure I
- 19:08got any little
- 19:10stubborn ones.
- 19:12I'll do that.
- 19:17And then once I do that, I take a little
- 19:19bit more and just
- 19:22go like this.
- 19:24Works for me.
- 19:26And then
- 19:31And then I take my hands and I just like
- 19:33massage it into my roots.
- 19:38Just to make sure that I've gotten
- 19:41everything. If you have gray hair along
- 19:43the bottom of your hair, it might be a
- 19:45great idea to do exactly what I did at
- 19:47the top underneath. Because the majority
- 19:50of my grays are just in this region, I
- 19:53really just focus on this part. I spent
- 19:56about 5 minutes massaging all of this
- 19:59color into my roots. I think I've gotten
- 20:03it all. Now I do the rest of my hair.
- 20:07And there's no
- 20:09reason to my madness. I just will
- 20:14kind of go by section. This is why
- 20:16gloves are really important. And just
- 20:19really massage the color throughout. I
- 20:23don't have to worry too much. If you're
- 20:26changing the color of your hair, then I
- 20:28would definitely
- 20:30maybe watch like a professional do it.
- 20:33>> [laughter]
- 20:33>> But if your hair is dark and you're if
- 20:36you have like a really close match,
- 20:39that's what I love about this method,
- 20:41especially using the demi, is it just
- 20:44slowly fades. And you do not see any
- 20:47sort of line. The grays magically pop
- 20:50back up, but it really does work well.
- 20:55I'll also lift my hair and do some
- 20:58underneath. Just Again, not really
- 21:01covering grays, but more so just to
- 21:04put the the on and just always massaging
- 21:07after so it's not like clumpy. And if
- 21:10your hair is longer than mine, you might
- 21:12need more.
- 21:15But this is enough for right now. But as
- 21:18my hair grows, cuz I'm growing it back
- 21:20out,
- 21:24I'm probably going to have to
- 21:28double this. And then once the color is
- 21:30all on, I just do one one last massage.
- 21:35I leave it on for a good 40 minutes. I
- 21:38will just put it up
- 21:41in a clip so that I can go about my
- 21:45day.
- 21:46And that's it. Like I said, I leave it
- 21:48for 40 minutes.
- 21:50And then I'll rinse it out and I'll show
- 21:52you the final product. What I will do
- 21:54right now is take
- 21:58a little bit of lotion since I didn't
- 22:01put Vaseline. Just go around my hairline
- 22:04just to make sure that doesn't stain.
- 22:06Make sure.
- 22:17And take off that little bit. I'm going
- 22:20to clean up and then wait the 40 minutes
- 22:22and I'll show you what it looks like
- 22:24when it's all done. Here's the finished
- 22:26product. Look how shiny it is. Had that
- 22:29gray patch, it's all gone. Yay!
- 22:33And it just looks so healthy and shiny.
- 22:38Like I said, it will just slowly fade
- 22:40over time, wash out gradually. It's so
- 22:43low maintenance, highly recommend it.
- 22:46Not only does it save me a ton of money,
- 22:49it also saves me a lot of time, which is
- 22:53what I'm all about, too. So,
- 22:55that is my little DIY at home hair
- 22:59color. I hope you enjoyed coming along
- 23:02with me on this different ways that I
- 23:04save money and just create intention
- 23:06around money. Hopefully I was able to
- 23:08give you some inspiration and above all,
- 23:11I hope you felt like you were hanging
- 23:12out with a friend. Thank you so much for
- 23:14watching and I can't wait to see you all
- 23:17in my next one.
- 23:18Bye everyone.
