How I Got 1000 Subscribers in 8 Days (Do This to Actually Grow on YouTube) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00So, for the first six weeks of uploading
- 0:01to this channel, I was getting almost
- 0:03zero views and zero subscribers. And it
- 0:06got to a point where I realized I need
- 0:08to switch something up. So, after making
- 0:10just one small change, I reached my
- 0:12first 1,000 subscribers just 8 days
- 0:15later, which is absolutely mental. So,
- 0:18in this video, I want to share with you
- 0:19how I made that happen using that one
- 0:22simple change, and how you can also use
- 0:24it to get to your first 1,000
- 0:25subscribers as well. Okay, so here we
- 0:27are inside of my YouTube analytics. And
- 0:30what we're looking at here is the first
- 0:316 weeks of the channel and you can see
- 0:33there's not really much going on. So
- 0:35we're getting 10 views, eight views,
- 0:36some some days were even zero views. And
- 0:38over the course of that entire 6 week
- 0:40period, we gained 11 subscribers. And
- 0:43it's important to note that all new
- 0:44creators and all new YouTube channels
- 0:46have a period like this where there's
- 0:48nothing going on. And I call this the
- 0:50dead zone. but also because the niche
- 0:52I'm trying to get into is extremely
- 0:54saturated, which by the way, if you
- 0:55don't know who I am, my name is George
- 0:56and I help earlystage creators to grow
- 0:59faster and earn more. But this content
- 1:01creation niche is very saturated, so I
- 1:03did expect the results to be quite slow
- 1:06at first. But I'm not sure if I expected
- 1:07the views to be this low. I mean, there
- 1:09were some videos that literally got zero
- 1:11views when I uploaded them. And if
- 1:12you're in this stage of your journey as
- 1:14a creator, maybe you can relate to this
- 1:16because even though the views were very
- 1:18low, I knew I had something to share and
- 1:20I knew that I had insights that people
- 1:22would find valuable. So, I had to keep
- 1:24going. But having said that, it's still
- 1:26not a great feeling. Like, let's just be
- 1:28honest with each other. If you spend
- 1:29hours or even days on a video and you
- 1:32put your heart into it and your
- 1:34creativity into it and it gets like
- 1:35seven views, it does sting a little bit.
- 1:38Like, let's just be honest. But then I
- 1:40posted a video called How Content
- 1:42Creation Completely Changed My Life in
- 1:4490 Days. And it's actually pretty likely
- 1:47that that video is how you found my
- 1:48channel in the first place. And now if
- 1:50we look back to the analytics, you can
- 1:51see that that 6 week period that we were
- 1:53looking at before, I mean, you can
- 1:55barely even see those spikes that we
- 1:56were looking at. And you can see as soon
- 1:58as I posted that video, the views just
- 2:00immediately shot up to, you know, about
- 2:026,000 views a day. And if we click up
- 2:05here, you can see that in the 8day
- 2:06period after I posted that video, we
- 2:08reached 1,000 subscribers. And I really
- 2:11wanted to show you this because I really
- 2:13want you to see that just one video can
- 2:15literally change everything. And I think
- 2:17this is so interesting because when it
- 2:18comes to YouTube, I think a lot of new
- 2:20creators, they expect to see kind of
- 2:22slow, linear progression over time. And
- 2:25they usually expect to see something a
- 2:27little bit like this. And there's a
- 2:28reason why we expect this because you
- 2:30know in life that's usually how we see
- 2:32results with this kind of slow linear
- 2:34progression towards our goals. For
- 2:36example, if you were trying to learn the
- 2:38piano, you would expect that over time
- 2:39and over the years with practice, you
- 2:42would slowly improve and slowly see
- 2:44results. But when it comes to seeing
- 2:46results on YouTube, I would say 90% of
- 2:48the time it's not going to look like
- 2:50this. it's going to look more like this
- 2:53where we have this kind of long dead
- 2:54zone period and then all of a sudden you
- 2:57post one video and everything changes.
- 2:59And this actually happens to most of the
- 3:01big creators. So I remember Hamza back
- 3:03in the day talking about this where he
- 3:05was describing this long period where
- 3:06nothing was going on and then all of a
- 3:08sudden he posted one video and his
- 3:10entire channel blew up. This is so
- 3:12valuable because it means that if you're
- 3:13not seeing results yet and maybe you're
- 3:15feeling a little bit disheartened, it
- 3:17might be because you're expecting to be
- 3:18here in terms of your results, but you
- 3:21might actually be here. So, yeah, that's
- 3:23just something to think about. Now,
- 3:24let's dive into this then. So, what one
- 3:25change did I make right here to reach my
- 3:28first 1,000 subscribers in 8 days? Now,
- 3:31here's the thing. When you are an early
- 3:32stage creator, you have a big problem to
- 3:34overcome. And that's that when people
- 3:36see your video recommended, they also
- 3:38see the amount of views. And this could
- 3:40be a bit of a problem because
- 3:41unfortunately when people see a video
- 3:43with low views, they associate it with
- 3:45low quality and then obviously they're
- 3:47less likely to click on it. And the most
- 3:49egregious example of this is if you were
- 3:51to upload a video called How to Grow on
- 3:53YouTube and the video had, you know,
- 3:54like seven views, then it's going to be
- 3:56very hard to get people to take you
- 3:58seriously. But this also actually
- 4:00applies to any niche on YouTube. Because
- 4:02if people see your video next to a video
- 4:04that has a ton of views, they're going
- 4:06to be more likely to click on the video
- 4:08with high views. because again they
- 4:10associate it with high quality and I
- 4:12wish that wasn't the case but it is the
- 4:14truth. So how do we remedy this issue?
- 4:16How do we counteract this negative
- 4:18social proof of having low views and not
- 4:21many subscribers? Well, what we're going
- 4:22to do is lean into our newcomer status.
- 4:25So what on earth do I mean by that?
- 4:27Well, I think this will make a lot more
- 4:28sense if I give you an example. So let's
- 4:30say you're trying to get into the
- 4:32fitness niche and you know you've got 12
- 4:34subscribers. You're a brand new creator.
- 4:36Now, at some point, your videos are
- 4:38going to start getting recommended next
- 4:39to the absolute pros. You know, these
- 4:41are guys with perfect bodies in perfect
- 4:44lighting. You know, they've got millions
- 4:45of views. And if you posted a video
- 4:47called How to Build Muscle Fast or
- 4:49something like that, it is game over
- 4:51because people are going to go with the
- 4:53pros with millions of views every single
- 4:55time because they're going to assume
- 4:56that they have more value to give. It's
- 4:59just the harsh truth. But here's how we
- 5:01fix this. We need to lean into the fact
- 5:03that we are new creators. So, we need to
- 5:05lean into our newcomer status. So,
- 5:08instead of just posting a broad video
- 5:10about how to build muscle fast, it would
- 5:12be way more powerful to post a video
- 5:14documenting your first year or even your
- 5:16first 30 days trying to build muscle as
- 5:19a beginner. And to prove how well this
- 5:21idea works, this is Joe Faser's channel.
- 5:23He has around 2 million subscribers and
- 5:26his first ever video has 31 million
- 5:29views. And the title and thumbnail looks
- 5:31like this. Now, the thing is that 31
- 5:34million people didn't click on this
- 5:36video because they thought he was a
- 5:37certified expert. They clicked because
- 5:39they saw themselves in him and they
- 5:41wanted to follow along with the early
- 5:43stages of his journey. So now if we zoom
- 5:45out, this is so interesting because if
- 5:47you post a video where you lean into
- 5:49your status as a new creator instead of
- 5:51trying to look like an expert, the fact
- 5:53that the video has low views kind of
- 5:56compliments the video itself because it
- 5:58makes people think that they're
- 5:59discovering something valuable and
- 6:00something relatable that not that many
- 6:02people know about. And the crazy thing
- 6:04is that in all the videos I've watched
- 6:06about, you know, how to grow a YouTube
- 6:08channel, they never mention this, which
- 6:10is mad because it's such a powerful
- 6:12concept for new creators because again,
- 6:14this is the concept that I used to start
- 6:16seeing some real growth on this channel.
- 6:18So instead of posting videos like how to
- 6:20grow an audience in 2025 and and things
- 6:22like that, instead I decided to switch
- 6:24it up and lean into my newcomer status
- 6:27and start talking about the struggles
- 6:28and the successes of my first 90 days as
- 6:31a content creator. And in that video
- 6:33that did quite well, I talked about all
- 6:35my insecurities and all my overthinking
- 6:37when talking to a camera. And I talked
- 6:39about my unfiltered experiences as a
- 6:41beginner. And I think people really
- 6:43resonated with that because it's
- 6:44something that everyone goes through and
- 6:46everyone can relate to when it comes to
- 6:48getting into content creation. So
- 6:50finally, how do we apply this to your
- 6:52own videos? So you want to start off by
- 6:54asking yourself, what journey are you
- 6:55actually on right now? Like genuinely,
- 6:58what are you learning? What are you
- 6:59building? And what are you struggling
- 7:01with? Because trust me, these small
- 7:02moments are so much more powerful than
- 7:05you think. These are the moments that
- 7:06make your story real and they make you
- 7:09more magnetic. And then you can also
- 7:10think, what is a specific milestone that
- 7:12you've hit recently, even if it's small,
- 7:14that others might want to hit as well?
- 7:16Like for example, this video right now.
- 7:18So to a lot of people, hitting 1,000
- 7:20subscribers is not really a big deal,
- 7:21but to a lot of small creators is a huge
- 7:24milestone. And these are the aspects of
- 7:26your journey that you really want to
- 7:27focus on. And it's so cool because this
- 7:29is actually your advantage as a small
- 7:31creator because people don't always want
- 7:33to learn from the experts or the gurus.
- 7:36Sometimes they'd rather just learn from
- 7:37the person who is maybe one or two steps
- 7:39ahead of them. And I think that's
- 7:41actually what I'd like to leave you with
- 7:42because if you're sat there thinking,
- 7:43you know, I don't have anything to teach
- 7:45or I don't I don't have anything that
- 7:46I'm an expert in, then you're probably
- 7:48the exact kind of creator that somebody
- 7:50out there needs. And if you are
- 7:52interested in watching or even
- 7:53re-watching that video that got me to
- 7:551,000 subscribers in 8 days, then there
- 7:57should be a little box appearing on the
- 7:59screen somewhere over here. So yeah,
- 8:00click onto that video and I'll see you
- 8:02there.
