  2. 0:01how it really ended. In 1925, [music]
  3. 0:03Professor Ueno suddenly died of a brain
  4. 0:04hemorrhage, but Hachiko, his Akita,
  5. 0:06didn't know that. All he knew was that
  6. 0:07at 3:00 p.m. every day his owner would
  7. 0:09walk out of Shibuya Station. So, he kept
  8. 0:10showing up right on time. After the
  9. 0:11professor died, his wife sold the house
  10. 0:13and moved away. Hachiko was passed
  11. 0:14around to a bunch of different families,
  12. 0:16but every single time he escaped and
  13. 0:17went right back to Shibuya Station.
  14. 0:18People just thought he was a stray. He
  15. 0:20got chased off by station workers,
  16. 0:21bullied by people walking by, and
  17. 0:23someone even drew on his face with ink.
  18. 0:24He even got grabbed by dog catchers a
  19. 0:26bunch of times. After waiting for 9
  20. 0:27years, 9 months, and 15 days, Hachiko
  21. 0:29passed away in the exact spot where he
  22. 0:31always waited. But, here's the scariest
  23. 0:32part. His left ear [music] was
  24. 0:33completely ruined. Cancer had spread all
  25. 0:35throughout his body. They found four
  26. 0:378-in meat skewers in his stomach.
  27. 0:38Parasitic worms had completely taken
  28. 0:39over his heart. The damage to his body
  29. 0:41was so bad that they couldn't even
  30. 0:42figure out how he endured it for so many
  31. 0:44years.
