  1. 0:00How do you handle two strong sales
  2. 0:03people on your team who can't stand each
  3. 0:04other? Oh, this is definitely a Layla
  4. 0:05question.
  5. 0:08>> Two strong sales people on your team who
  6. 0:09can't stand each other.
  7. 0:11Um, [snorts] I tend to address those
  8. 0:12things head-on. So, if like two people
  9. 0:14don't like each other,
  10. 0:16I pull them into a room and I'm like,
  11. 0:17"So,
  12. 0:19we can not like each other. That doesn't
  13. 0:21mean that we can't not work together.
  14. 0:23Part of being an adult is knowing how to
  15. 0:25work together on the same team with
  16. 0:27people that you don't necessarily want
  17. 0:29to be friends with outside of work.
  18. 0:30Um, and then usually just go through
  19. 0:33conflict resolution, which looks like
  20. 0:35"Okay, so tell me what it is exactly um,
  21. 0:38that happened." And so, you basically
  22. 0:40let each person say, "This is what
  23. 0:43it felt like for me." And then the other
  24. 0:45person says, "This is what it felt like
  25. 0:46for me."
  26. 0:47Um,
  27. 0:48I usually
  28. 0:49Yeah, this is so much this.
  29. 0:51>> Okay, if two things.
  30. 0:52>> Okay. So, the first one is like you need
  31. 0:54to let them each say
  32. 0:56without a ton of emotion
  33. 0:58how they're feeling about the situation.
  34. 1:00Then, you want to let each of them say
  35. 1:03something good about the other one.
  36. 1:05It's really cheesy.
  37. 1:06>> That's nice.
  38. 1:07>> Yeah.
  39. 1:07>> Okay.
  40. 1:08>> Then,
  41. 1:08>> How they feel, compliment the other
  42. 1:09person.
  43. 1:10>> Yeah, first how they feel, then
  44. 1:11compliment the other person, then you
  45. 1:13say, "Okay, great. Um,
  46. 1:15tell me what you think could be true
  47. 1:16about what this other person said about
  48. 1:17how they feel."
  49. 1:18>> Ooh, okay.
  50. 1:19>> And then, so then you get them to see
  51. 1:20the other person's side.
  52. 1:23And then you say, "Okay, great. So,
  53. 1:26amazing. Now, we're going to say
  54. 1:28we're going to practice active
  55. 1:29listening. Which is basically
  56. 1:32the last thing you're going to do with
  57. 1:33them is
  58. 1:35tell them to tell each other that they
  59. 1:36understand and heard each other. God, I
  60. 1:38hate this [ __ ] And
  61. 1:40you know what I'm saying, though.
  62. 1:41>> Sounds like a therapy session.
  63. 1:42>> It is therapy.
  64. 1:43>> Yeah. [laughter]
  65. 1:44>> And so, you have each of them say,
  66. 1:45"Okay, great. So, what I heard you say
  67. 1:47is X Y Z.
  68. 1:49Um,
  69. 1:50here's what I'm
  70. 1:52committing to doing based on what you
  71. 1:53just said." And so, you have each of
  72. 1:54them
  73. 1:55actively listen, repeat back to the
  74. 1:57other what they just said, and then
  75. 1:59commit to what they're willing to do to
  76. 2:02>> compromise or meet the person in the
  77. 2:03middle with the situation.
  78. 2:05You ask them each to do one give.
  79. 2:07And then I'm pretty much like if I see
  80. 2:09you in my office again, I'm going to
  81. 2:11[ __ ] both of you cuz I don't want to
  82. 2:12be a therapist.
  83. 2:14>> And there you have it, from the horse's
  84. 2:15mouth.
  85. 2:16>> Yeah.
  86. 2:16>> So, uh
  87. 2:18I'm going to recap that.
  88. 2:19>> Uh-huh.
  89. 2:19>> So, bring them in a meeting.
  90. 2:21>> Mhm.
  91. 2:22>> Get their feels out.
  92. 2:23>> Yeah.
  93. 2:23>> Tell them to compliment each other.
  94. 2:25>> Mhm.
  95. 2:25>> Ask them what was right about the other
  96. 2:27person said. And still tell ask them
  97. 2:29what they're going to do instead next
  98. 2:30time.
  99. 2:31>> Yeah.
  100. 2:32>> And then threaten that if you have to
  101. 2:34see them again,
  102. 2:35>> [laughter]
  103. 2:36>> they're both gone.
  104. 2:37>> threat. Like,
  105. 2:38and by the way, this is the only time
  106. 2:39I'll believe you in this.
  107. 2:41>> Yeah, if you're in my office, then you
  108. 2:42are really messing up.
  109. 2:43>> Yeah.
