Full transcript
- 0:00have you ever asked yourself how
- 0:01computerss actually communicate well in
- 0:04this video you're going to find out
- 0:06we'll explore the basics of computer
- 0:08networks how they work and how they
- 0:10enable all the digital interactions we
- 0:12rely on every day from the key Concepts
- 0:15and different types of networks to the
- 0:17essential devices that keep them running
- 0:19by the end of this video you'll have a
- 0:21solid understanding of how computers
- 0:23talk to each
- 0:24other first let's get familiar with some
- 0:26basic terms a network is a collection of
- 0:29connected devic devices designed to
- 0:31exchange data these devices called nodes
- 0:34include computers servers routers and
- 0:37switches to make sure this data exchange
- 0:40happens smoothly we use protocols sets
- 0:43of rules and standards for example the
- 0:45HTP protocol allows your browser to
- 0:48request and receive data when you visit
- 0:50a
- 0:51website every device in a network has a
- 0:53unique identifier called an IP address
- 0:56this helps in routing the data to the
- 0:58right place there's also a Mac address a
- 1:00hardware specific identifier that is
- 1:02unique to each device unlike IP
- 1:04addresses which can be reused IP
- 1:07addresses can be local for internal
- 1:09networks or public for global internet
- 1:12communication next we have ports which
- 1:15help direct the data to the correct
- 1:16application within a device and finally
- 1:19the DNS system translates humanfriendly
- 1:21domain names like google.com into
- 1:24machine readable IP addresses computer
- 1:27networks come in various forms depending
- 1:29depending on their scale and purpose a
- 1:32lan or local area network connects
- 1:34devices in a small area like your home
- 1:36or office when you connect wirelessly
- 1:39you're using a w Lan or wireless LAN on
- 1:43a larger scale we have wands wide area
- 1:46networks that link devices across cities
- 1:48countries or even continents Cloud
- 1:51networks allow companies to use Virtual
- 1:53components instead of maintaining their
- 1:55own Hardware this reduces cost and
- 1:57maintenance efforts while providing
- 1:59flexible data storage and processing
- 2:02networks can also be open or closed an
- 2:04open system is connected and ready for
- 2:07communication while a closed system is
- 2:09isolated and
- 2:12non-communicative now let's talk about
- 2:14Network architecture the structure of
- 2:16how devices are organized and
- 2:18interact in a client server architecture
- 2:21one or more servers manage the data and
- 2:23requests from clients for example when
- 2:26you send an email or browse the web
- 2:28you're interacting with a server
- 2:31on the other hand in a peer-to-peer
- 2:32Network all devices or peers can act as
- 2:36both clients and servers this
- 2:38decentralized approach is commonly used
- 2:40in blockchain
- 2:42technology Network topology defines the
- 2:45layout of a network how devices are
- 2:47connected a mesh topology connects each
- 2:50device to every other device in the
- 2:52network ensuring fast communication but
- 2:55requiring complex setup it's often used
- 2:57in military Communications
- 3:00in a star topology all devices are
- 3:02connected to a central Hub which manages
- 3:05the data transmission this setup is
- 3:07common in home
- 3:09networks finally a bus topology links
- 3:12all devices to a single communication
- 3:14line it's simple and efficient for small
- 3:16networks but not ideal for larger
- 3:19ones let's imagine you're searching for
- 3:21something online using your smartphone
- 3:23or laptop the first thing that happens
- 3:25is your device connects wirelessly to a
- 3:27wireless access point this swap acts as
- 3:30a bridge linking your wireless device to
- 3:33your home network once the wayp receives
- 3:35your search request it passes it along
- 3:37to a switch the switch's job is to
- 3:40direct this data to the appropriate
- 3:42device within your network but since
- 3:44your search request needs to reach the
- 3:45internet the switch forwards it to the
- 3:47rotor the router now takes over
- 3:50determining the best path for your data
- 3:52to travel to reach the internet it sends
- 3:54your request out into the vast network
- 3:56of networks we call the internet
- 3:58directing it to the appr web server that
- 4:01hosts the website you're trying to
- 4:02access along the way your data might
- 4:05pass through a repeater especially if
- 4:07the distance is great or the signal is
- 4:09weak the repeater boosts the signal
- 4:11ensuring that your data reaches its
- 4:13destination intact the web server
- 4:16receives your request processes it and
- 4:18then sends the requested information
- 4:20like a web page back through the
- 4:22internet following the reverse path the
- 4:25data is received by your router then
- 4:27passed to the switch which directs it
- 4:29back to the WAP finally the WAP
- 4:32transmits the data wirelessly to your
- 4:34device where the web page is displayed
- 4:36in your browser in this entire process
- 4:38the data packet travels through a
- 4:40sequence of devices each performing a
- 4:42specific role to ensure your search
- 4:44request is processed efficiently and
- 4:47accurately if you found this video
