Full transcript
- 0:00You you said this on Twitter. You said
- 0:01this on X. You tweeted out. You've been
- 0:04lied to. They said SEO takes 12 months
- 0:08to work. But the truth is a local
- 0:11business can hit $100,000 a month in
- 0:14under 90 days. And you you share this
- 0:17amazing thread of how you would do it.
- 0:20Can you break down this there just this
- 0:22opening before we get into the thread?
- 0:24Can you just break down this opening?
- 0:25They said SEO takes 12 months to work,
- 0:27but the truth is a local business can
- 0:29hit $100,000 a month in under 90 days.
- 0:34>> Yeah. U I I completely agree with that.
- 0:37Obviously that that's why it will uh
- 0:40with I mean generally for a local
- 0:42business what we see and across all of
- 0:44our clients is not all niches are are as
- 0:46competitive as the other ones. Let's say
- 0:49if you're in SAS, if you're in
- 0:50e-commerce, that's a way different game,
- 0:52right? It's it's a way harder game. it
- 0:54takes way longer in general. But what we
- 0:57see in local and and also it depends on
- 0:59where you're starting at as well. So not
- 1:01like if you just register a website
- 1:03today it then then uh it's not entirely
- 1:06applicable. But if you have a website
- 1:08for let's say your and you have a just
- 1:11an established Google business profile
- 1:13with local SEO hitting up uh 100k in 90
- 1:16days is is very realistically possible.
- 1:18That is what I believe in. And generally
- 1:20I see in the SE industry uh everything
- 1:23is like oh it's it's going to take 12
- 1:24months it's going to take 10 months. Uh
- 1:27again it's not entirely inaccurate but
- 1:29it it's it depends a lot on on the case
- 1:31by case basis. In local SEO I do feel uh
- 1:3490 days is a good enough time to reach
- 1:36100k if you have a solid website to
- 1:39begin with if you have if it has the age
- 1:42and and also um if you have a solid
- 1:45Google business profile. So yeah, I do
- 1:47do stand by it uh quite well.
- 1:50>> And do you think so uh you think local
- 1:52business you think local is easier than
- 1:55SAS?
- 1:57>> Oh 100%.
- 1:59So sa the thing is uh with SAS you and
- 2:03and it also depends on what kind of SAS
- 2:04you are in but in general SAS is very
- 2:07competitive uh because acquiring
- 2:09customers uh is is a huge pain for most
- 2:12asset and more than creating a SAS which
- 2:14is a challenge but marketing it becomes
- 2:17even even a bigger challenge. So uh in
- 2:20SAS space domain rating 70 80 is is very
- 2:23average. So it's not even like if you
- 2:25have a domain rating 70 that's wow
- 2:27killer in local if you in most niches
- 2:30that we see sites pretty much rank with
- 2:33domain rating zero. So they are ranking
- 2:35number one with domain rating zero two
- 2:37five and so on. So it's it's it's a
- 2:40different ball game altogether.
- 2:42>> You make a good point. A lot of local
- 2:44businesses don't really have much
- 2:46authority.
- 2:47>> Right. And one more thing that we see uh
- 2:50whenever I consult with businesses is uh
- 2:52even if they they're ranking they have
- 2:54not never really invested into
- 2:55backlinks. So and because you have not
- 2:58invested into backlinks your domain
- 2:59rating and overall authority is still
- 3:01quite low. So and that is that is what I
- 3:04say to all all of our clients and and
- 3:06the calls that I go on is even if you
- 3:09rank uh it's important to rank by
- 3:11creating a mode right because you need
- 3:14to have certain backlinks in place so
- 3:16that uh another competitor who and and
- 3:19SEOs SEOs like us would just not see
- 3:22that niche and be very uh kind of
- 3:24lucrative towards it that oh this is a
- 3:26D0 site dominating the market let's get
- 3:28into it. So yeah, uh that is what I
- 3:32believe
- 3:33>> I'm going to get into actually. So when
- 3:35I when I made this video sharing this
- 3:38thread that I'm reading right now, um I
- 3:41I that was one of the questions in the
- 3:42comments which was like how are you
- 3:44building links? But I want to I'm going
- 3:46to get into that in a moment cuz I want
- 3:47to go down just uh basically like post
- 3:50by post in this thread because it was
- 3:52such a fire thread. I loved everything
- 3:54about this thread. So the next thing
- 3:56that you said was all right. Right? So,
- 3:58you go, here's exactly how how I would
- 4:00get this $100,000 a month in 90 days.
- 4:02So, optimize a Google business profile
- 4:05before anything else. Most businesses
- 4:07treat Google business profile like an
- 4:09afterthought. That's the fastest way to
- 4:12lose local leads. Add real images, not
- 4:16stock. Fill in services, hours,
- 4:19categories. Get 10 plus reviews
- 4:22immediately. Email your past clients.
- 4:25Post weekly updates. Google wants
- 4:27freshness and complete lists. Give it
- 4:30both. Man, gosh, you just shared the
- 4:33fire. Like, when I'm reading I'm reading
- 4:35this and I'm just getting hyped. This is
- 4:38such a good thread that you made,
- 4:41>> right? And uh I mean, you don't believe
- 4:43how many businesses spend months to come
- 4:47up with, oh, this is such a beautiful
- 4:48looking website that I want to have.
- 4:50There's nothing wrong with it, but uh 60
- 4:5370% of a leads are at the end of the day
- 4:55are still going to come from your Google
- 4:57business profile. So, and in general, I
- 5:00mean uh obviously it's not for everyone,
- 5:02but most businesses that you'll see,
- 5:04they'll have like a bare minimum stock
- 5:07image as the header image in Google
- 5:08business profile, not posting anything
- 5:11at all. And so, even though they get
- 5:13most of the of their business from
- 5:15Google business profile, that's still
- 5:17the most neglected part. uh when we
- 5:19audit uh website with websites I mean
- 5:21everyone uh kind of feels they can get
- 5:24it designed really well so a lot of
- 5:26effort goes into it into designing a
- 5:29really nice website but what would make
- 5:31you the most money and most quickest ROI
- 5:34like the one that we talking about get
- 5:36let's say reaching to 100k in 90 days
- 5:38your Google business profile could play
- 5:40a huge role in it like for example if if
- 5:43there's a roofer very easily they charge
- 5:45between 5 to 10k for each job right So
- 5:48uh in order to reach 100k a month
- 5:51primarily in revenue you need like 10 10
- 5:54jobs 10 to 15 jobs on an average to just
- 5:56be there and most of it could just come
- 5:59from your Google business profile as
- 6:01well uh if you optimize it correctly. So
- 6:04like I said don't treat it as an
- 6:06afterthought that oh my website should
- 6:07look fire but the Google business
- 6:09profile is is the neglected child. I
- 6:12mean in most cases if it's right in most
- 6:14cases if even if it's the other way
- 6:16around that works better I'd say.
- 6:19>> Yeah. Yeah. So so people are focusing
- 6:21local businesses are focusing on the
- 6:23wrong thing. the the Google business
- 6:25profile brings most of the customers
- 6:28>> put most of your focus there
- 6:31>> right and uh eventually it's also uh
- 6:34relatively
- 6:35easier to to get the work done on your
- 6:38Google business profile even if you're
- 6:40not working with an SEO agency or an SEO
- 6:43most business owners can can actually
- 6:45figure out a lot a lot of SEO the Google
- 6:47business profile SEO themselves just by
- 6:50watching videos of start with Adwords
- 6:52videos and you'll get a lot idea about
- 6:54how to uh uh optimize your Google
- 6:57business profile. The website side of
- 6:59things, I mean there there chances that
- 7:01there are a lot of technical aspects
- 7:03involved into it. So the learning curve
- 7:05will have to be uh longer. But even if
- 7:08you're a business owner and do not have
- 7:10the budget for an SEO agency or or an
- 7:13SEO consultant, just learn Google
- 7:15business profile. Watch like five videos
- 7:17and and you'll be able to learn a lot of
- 7:19it uh on your own. This method of
- 7:21marketing is so effective, I had to make
- 7:23sure it wasn't against Google's rules
- 7:24before I kept doing it. It's a form of
- 7:26SEO I call compact keywords. Whereas
- 7:29most SEO focuses on putting up articles
- 7:32to answer questions, how, what, when,
- 7:34compact keywords focuses on putting up
- 7:36dozens of pages that sell to searchers
- 7:38who are actually looking to buy. These
- 7:41pages rank on Google and convert so much
- 7:44better than normal that when I
- 7:45discovered this years ago, I couldn't
- 7:47believe this was allowed. It's less
- 7:49work, too. The average compact keywords
- 7:52page is only 415 words. Compact Keywords
- 7:56is a 13-hour deep course on getting
- 7:58sales with SEO. A customer recently
- 8:01said, "Each lesson is dense with
- 8:03information. You're giving years worth
- 8:05of experience boiled down into 15 to 30
- 8:08minute lessons with no filler or fluff.
- 8:11I feel like I'm gaining a new
- 8:12superpower. Compact Keywords is about
- 8:15setting up an SEO funnel that brings you
- 8:17sales for years and years and years. It
- 8:20works with AI. It's less work than
- 8:22traditional SEO and it makes way more
- 8:25money. You can get it now at
- 8:27compactkeywords.com.
- 8:29Back to the podcast. Thank you, Saresh.
- 8:31Thank you. Uh uh what are you doing?
- 8:33What are you doing uh with keywords for
- 8:36a Google business profile?
- 8:39>> Uh sorry, can you come again? uh
- 8:40>> what are you doing with keywords for a
- 8:42Google business profile? How are you
- 8:43using keywords with so you're doing
- 8:46keyword research and then where are you
- 8:47placing keywords?
- 8:49>> So uh I mean first thing is if you have
- 8:53the keyword and the city name in in your
- 8:56business name that's still a huge uh
- 8:59cheat code and it works brilliantly. I
- 9:01mean uh I have seen and and many of the
- 9:04businesses that I work with they they go
- 9:06as far as to do like a DBA
- 9:08in order to have like doing business as
- 9:11and in order to get that keyword and the
- 9:13city name in their business name. So
- 9:15that's that's a huge and it's it it had
- 9:17I mean I'm surprised to this how does
- 9:20Google still has so much weightage onto
- 9:22it. Uh then obviously uh there are are
- 9:26uh places such as your business
- 9:28description uh the services that you
- 9:30list all of these places where you can
- 9:33very smartly uh put in your keywords and
- 9:35and incorporate it and especially with
- 9:37GPT around it's a lot more easier. You
- 9:40can actually get GPD to write a really
- 9:42nice description and also very smartly
- 9:45integrate those keywords within the
- 9:46descriptions and everything as well. So
- 9:49yeah, these are these are some of the
- 9:50places primarily and also uh sometimes
- 9:53what we do is is uh smartly get those
- 9:56keywords also in the Q&A section and
- 9:59reviews. I mean with reviews obviously
- 10:02uh if the customer includes the keyword
- 10:04in their reply that has a significantly
- 10:06lot more weightage than you replying to
- 10:09that review with with the keyword. But
- 10:11yeah uh but then again for that you have
- 10:13to be uh your technician. If you are uh
- 10:17there in front of customer, it's it's
- 10:18good to always ask them, oh, can could
- 10:20you please just include uh if if you're
- 10:22doing like roofing uh in in New York or
- 10:26wherever in the keyword? So, that has a
- 10:28really significant impact.
- 10:30>> Do you ever think non-local businesses
- 10:33should be using a Google business
- 10:34profile?
- 10:37>> Uh that's a good question. But uh see
- 10:40with AI coming around and everything the
- 10:43Google business profile is going to be
- 10:45very very uh important in in the future
- 10:47as well even more important than what it
- 10:49is right now because AI if you see I'm
- 10:52sure you have also come across it that
- 10:54both AI mode and chat GPT they pull up a
- 10:56lot of stuff from your Google business
- 10:58profile because it's like a one central
- 11:00hub for them to understand what you do
- 11:03where your business is located what your
- 11:05customers are saying about your business
- 11:07what kind of Q&A
- 11:08people are asking. So it's it's a great
- 11:11place for for GPT or even any AI to
- 11:15understand really well that okay this is
- 11:18what the these guys do and that this is
- 11:20what the customers are saying about
- 11:21them. So again for for non-local
- 11:25businesses maybe it it it does not have
- 11:28an ROI based on SEO like if you're an
- 11:32e-commerce business and uh you are uh
- 11:35shipping to to UK let's say and you're
- 11:37based in US for example you won't really
- 11:40get any ROI in the sense of uh getting
- 11:43calls or things like that but yeah in
- 11:46the long run if you uh it could really
- 11:49help you in in all the AI modes and
- 11:51everything that that are coming up uh
- 11:52really fast
- 11:54>> and with with branded terms or
- 11:56non-branded terms or both.
- 11:58>> So if you're if you are a non-local
- 12:01business, it uh the non-brand you your
- 12:04Google business profile won't really
- 12:06rank for non-branded terms.
- 12:08>> Mhm.
- 12:08>> And and I'm I'm taking example of let's
- 12:10say SAS or e-commerce anything for that
- 12:12matter. uh if someone is looking for uh
- 12:15let's say iPad cases near me for example
- 12:20very very uh uh uh less chance that your
- 12:23customer would be in the same city or in
- 12:25the same vicinity as you right because
- 12:27Google business profiles uh it's uh
- 12:30proximity is a huge ranking factor for
- 12:32Google business profiles so uh if you're
- 12:35doing it being a non-local business do
- 12:37it just for the sake of kind of uh a
- 12:40reputation management because people do
- 12:43search for your business name on Google.
- 12:45So, uh when someone searches for your
- 12:47branded keyword and your Google business
- 12:49profile shows up, which is
- 12:51well-maintained with good reviews,
- 12:53that's that's a great green plug right
- 12:55there. And that then that would also
- 12:58eventually help you in in all of the AI
- 13:00stuff that that's going to happen
- 13:02across. So, yeah, like I said, I mean,
- 13:05it's not a hu huge ROI activity
- 13:07immediately, but yeah, this it's like a
- 13:09long-term game that you're playing.
- 13:11Yeah, the reputation management thing
- 13:13was that's a that's a good uh that's a
- 13:16good thought. And you were saying
- 13:17something else
- 13:19>> uh about
- 13:20>> you were you were saying something else.
- 13:23>> Uh so yeah the the reputation management
- 13:26and also like the AI mode stuff uh is
- 13:30going to be a game changer because it
- 13:31does pick up a lot of stuff both AIs uh
- 13:35like AI mode and GPT primarily they both
- 13:38do take a lot of stuff from your Google
- 13:39business profile. Are you listening to
- 13:42your to your Oh, sorry. Go go go go go
- 13:43ahead. No,
- 13:44>> so I was saying we actually uh did some
- 13:47research for for of our clients and we
- 13:48asked uh GPT specifically why are you
- 13:51pulling up this business and it was
- 13:54specifically mentioning that their uh uh
- 13:56reviews and rating on their Google
- 13:57business profile is really good. That
- 13:59means people are trusting it and that is
- 14:00why it is recommending it. So yeah, that
- 14:04that's how we see it happening.
- 14:06>> Man, that is dope. That is a that is
- 14:08great. That is great. Are you uh are you
- 14:11building links to a Google business
- 14:13profile?
- 14:15>> Uh yes and no. So um citations yes but
- 14:19also uh I what I'm seeing is citations
- 14:22are becoming less and less relevant as
- 14:25uh we move forward. So the quality I
- 14:27mean if if you're uh doing bug citations
- 14:29of 500 directories it's it's not really
- 14:32working out uh anymore. But again, good
- 14:35quality uh directories and and niche
- 14:38relevant directories, they still work
- 14:39really well. So that's one thing. One
- 14:42thing that uh that uh that's been
- 14:44working decent enough is is embedding
- 14:46your map. If you're able to do a guest
- 14:48post, so it's a tricky situation. What
- 14:50we do is when we do guest post, we uh
- 14:53negotiate with the site owners to see if
- 14:54we can embed our Google map there within
- 14:57that page uh as okay, check out this
- 14:59business. So that that is a good good
- 15:02thing. Uh and that gives a good jump uh
- 15:04across.
- 15:05>> Dude, I've had a lot of SEOs on the show
- 15:09and you are sharing some just very
- 15:13original thinking like things that I
- 15:15have not heard from other SEOs that I've
- 15:17had that I've had on the podcast. So
- 15:20this is Dude, this is amazing. I'm I'm
- 15:22like uh yeah. And you know, okay, I like
- 15:25um so I'm I want to go into these four
- 15:27bullets because I'm not ready to move
- 15:29off this tweet yet.
- 15:30this first
- 15:31>> this this first tweet that you uh that
- 15:34you said you said
- 15:37add real images not stock fill in
- 15:39services hours categories get 10 plus
- 15:42reviews immediately so you can do that
- 15:44by emailing past clients and post weekly
- 15:46updates all right so how about like uh
- 15:49to you what you're seeing a lot of a lot
- 15:51of businesses just put in stock images
- 15:54into their Google business profile
- 15:57>> okay and it's it's a weird thing But a
- 15:59lot of uh these business owners when
- 16:01they come across AI and AI image
- 16:03generation, they get wowed by it. Oh,
- 16:06wow. I can just type in and generate an
- 16:08image. So there's uh uh there's one of
- 16:11our clients who who would constantly
- 16:13send us uh his creations that oh look at
- 16:16that. Uh so I I won't go into specifics,
- 16:19but he's let's say he's a he has a van.
- 16:21So he'd always be like, oh, I I tried
- 16:24this with the image and and this prompt
- 16:26and everything. The problem with that is
- 16:28you have to think of it from the
- 16:29customer's point of view. So if I am a
- 16:32customer and I'm searching for let's say
- 16:34plumbers near me and their van looks
- 16:37fake to me uh or if I'm searching for an
- 16:40HVAC uh contractor and if the van looks
- 16:42AI made to me, that's a red flag right
- 16:45there. So because then I'm thinking two
- 16:48things. A are these guys legit or are
- 16:50these guys just like uh lead selling
- 16:53kind of stuff where they do not actually
- 16:55have have proper uh thing to serve you
- 16:59and they're just passing on the leads.
- 17:00So always think of it from a customer's
- 17:02perspective. Uh [snorts]
- 17:04so yeah a lot of people do and because
- 17:07since since all of these AI generation
- 17:09uh models have gotten really better uh
- 17:11people do try to overuse it for for it.
- 17:15And one thing you have to understand is
- 17:18Google is smart enough to understand if
- 17:19it's an AI image, right? So, uh that and
- 17:25one major thing is let's say you and I
- 17:27both run a competing business and both
- 17:29of us are just uploading AI generated
- 17:31images on the Google business profile.
- 17:33Who would win the race? How would Google
- 17:35determine uh if if who who who between
- 17:38us is actually doing a better job? Then
- 17:41it will it will rely on signals where oh
- 17:42is this an image that that that is real?
- 17:45uh versus fake. So we would go in that
- 17:48direction eventually. It is going to
- 17:49happen where Google would would have to
- 17:51circle back to all of the the new
- 17:54signals and and real signals from real
- 17:56users.
- 17:57>> Yeah. And real and and real images just
- 17:59might also get better engagement signals
- 18:02>> 100%. And what so uh we have one of our
- 18:04roofers client and what they do is it
- 18:06it's what they do is after a job they
- 18:09take a picture with the customer with
- 18:12their uh uh logo. So, so the person that
- 18:16worked there and the team and uh then
- 18:18they we upload that onto their Google
- 18:20business profile and it just it's it's a
- 18:23good signal overall if if I am as a
- 18:25customer looking at those pictures that
- 18:27will be like okay these guys do a good
- 18:29job that is why those customers are
- 18:31taking a picture with them uh and
- 18:33they're satisfied and they're just doing
- 18:35even if they're just giving like a
- 18:36thumbs up that just displays their
- 18:38>> we're going to we're going to take we're
- 18:39going to take a picture right now. I'm
- 18:40going to post it to my IG. I'm I'm gonna
- 18:43say I'm gonna say this podcast is
- 18:44incredible. It's coming out tomorrow and
- 18:46I'm super hyped by it
- 18:48>> because I really am. And that thing that
- 18:50you shared, take man, take pictures with
- 18:53people. All right. Wait, wait.
- 18:54>> Okay. How am I How am I going to do
- 18:55this? I'm going to do selfie mode. Yeah.
- 18:59>> And wait, maybe I can Oh, or I can do
- 19:02it. Uh,
- 19:03>> maybe take a screenshot.
- 19:05>> I'll do No, I got it. I got it. Like
- 19:06this. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I took like a
- 19:08million. Okay. I'll put it I'll put it
- 19:10on my story after this. Uh oh man. And
- 19:16something else that I like about this
- 19:17add real images and not stock is you see
- 19:19this with SAS as well. Like
- 19:22>> right
- 19:23>> it drives me crazy when when SAS
- 19:25products are putting up bottom offunnel
- 19:27SEO landing pages. So they're they're
- 19:29putting up landing pages targeting their
- 19:31like their conversionbased terms and
- 19:34they're using stock photos in the hero
- 19:37above the fold. Stock stock stock photos
- 19:39are AI generated photos and they're not
- 19:41using screenshots of their SAS. They're
- 19:44not using screen. Yeah. Yeah. It's the
- 19:47same thing
- 19:49>> and it's very I mean especially in the
- 19:51SAS it's it's almost criminal because
- 19:53the people that are going to use your
- 19:55SAS they are generally uh much smarter
- 19:58than your average audience right so and
- 20:01even in SEO space even more so or
- 20:03marketing space or finance space even
- 20:05more so so we can smell an a stock image
- 20:10or an AI generated image from a from a
- 20:12mile
- 20:13so if I see
- 20:15>> oh go Go on, go on, go on, go on. I'm so
- 20:17hyped. Go on.
- 20:19>> Right. So, if I see uh something like
- 20:21that, then it's it's an immediate turn
- 20:22off for me in general that but like you
- 20:25said, if if I see the actual screenshots
- 20:27of those SAS, that gives me like it
- 20:30saves my time, right? I do not have to
- 20:32sign up and do all of that stuff to just
- 20:34see if this interface is going to work
- 20:36for me or the features that I see there
- 20:38is going to work for me. So, it's an
- 20:40immediate either turn on or turn off for
- 20:42me,
- 20:43>> man. Yeah, that's a great point, too.
- 20:45like you you just described it so well,
- 20:47which is you're right, cuz a lot of
- 20:50people they'll see a landing page, but
- 20:52they don't know what it's going to look
- 20:54like or feel like, and they're like,
- 20:55"Oh, I got to I got to sign up. I got to
- 20:58give my email in order to see this is
- 20:59such a pain. I'll do it later, or I'll
- 21:01try to find something that's easier."
- 21:03And yeah, show
- 21:04>> and just the we were talking on this. I
- 21:07mean it's it's a slightly off-topic
- 21:09thing but I am seeing and correct me if
- 21:11I'm wrong I am seeing a lot of these SAS
- 21:14taking on a new marketing uh
- 21:18trick I would say is what they're doing
- 21:19is they're sending referral traffics to
- 21:21your website. So I was just checking out
- 21:24who uh what traffic we are getting for
- 21:26for a website Alventra marketing and I
- 21:28saw someone from a SAS website visited
- 21:32there as a referral. So, I mean, I don't
- 21:34know if they did it on purpose, but uh
- 21:38that kind of intrigued me to check out
- 21:40their SAS. Okay, why? What is this SAS
- 21:43about? And weirdly enough, that SAS was
- 21:46uh a famous SAS. It was a note uh uh
- 21:50note takingaking app uh that even MKBHD
- 21:53had given good reviews about. So, I went
- 21:55into their funnel. I I did download it
- 21:58and I'm trying it out right now. So I
- 22:00don't know if this was intentional that
- 22:02thing like a marketing tactic that SAS
- 22:04is currently using people in SAS but
- 22:07yeah uh it just came to my mind
- 22:09>> sending like uh sending fake referral
- 22:12traffic has been a marketing tactic for
- 22:14a long time
- 22:15>> right okay so uh then probably it was
- 22:18that I guess
- 22:19>> it's funny it's funny that it worked I
- 22:22something that I liked you know we were
- 22:23talking uh we were talking yesterday
- 22:25about good hooks for videos
- 22:28>> and and then You said you said it's
- 22:31almost criminal. And I'm like, "Oh my
- 22:33gosh, this is a hook for this is a hook
- 22:35for a tweet. This is a hook for an
- 22:37Instagram reel.
- 22:39>> It's it's almost criminal posting stock
- 22:42photos on your website instead of
- 22:44screenshots of your product.
- 22:46>> What are you doing?
- 22:48>> Oh my gosh. I like Yeah, man. And I mean
- 22:51it's weird when when you're into
- 22:53marketing and especially content
- 22:54creation. Everywhere you look is you're
- 22:57trying to see oh is this a pattern
- 22:58interrupt? Is this a hook? Is would this
- 23:01be a scroll stopper? So sometime it's
- 23:03also hard to turn off your mind.
- 23:05>> Okay. [laughter]
- 23:07Every every real I'm trying to watch I'm
- 23:09seeing why why this go viral or what
- 23:11what's the hook here? Every tweet I'm
- 23:13reading I'm I'm all the time book
- 23:15parking stuff that okay oh this is good.
- 23:18>> Pattern interrupts. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:21So, okay. Okay. You said fill in
- 23:23services, hours, categories. So, a lot
- 23:25of a lot of business owners aren't doing
- 23:27this.
- 23:29>> Uh they do. So, what what they do is
- 23:32basically when they have just set up
- 23:34their Google business profile, they did
- 23:36a like a bare minimum job and and that
- 23:40already starts working good enough for
- 23:41them. So, they never go back and and
- 23:44reoptimize things. With a lot of
- 23:46businesses also, you are adding services
- 23:48as well. uh and they never do Q&As onto
- 23:52their Google business profile. So it's
- 23:54uh it's almost like they feel that it's
- 23:56it's like set and forget strategy. Oh,
- 23:59I've done I've done optimize everything.
- 24:01Then my team goes into and does a
- 24:03complete SEO audit for for their Google
- 24:05business profile and then we show show
- 24:07them that oh there are like 20 things
- 24:09that you're missing on your on your
- 24:11Google business profile that you should
- 24:13have uh inputed there. So and obviously
- 24:16Google business part does give a lot of
- 24:18stuff to for you to fill out even to the
- 24:20point of are you LGBT friendly are you
- 24:24to a lot of things that you can fill
- 24:26out. So the more information that you
- 24:28can give about your business in your
- 24:29Google business profile it's better for
- 24:32both both for the customer and obviously
- 24:34Google Google loves that. What's a
- 24:36better use of time if you're a local
- 24:37business? Filling out a filling out your
- 24:41Google business profile fully or or like
- 24:43filling out your website fully?
- 24:46>> Your Google business profile hands down.
- 24:49Uh filling out your website is only as
- 24:52good as how much SEO you are eventually
- 24:54going to do on it. because even if you
- 24:57have filled out everything on your on
- 24:58your website uh a lot of SEO like
- 25:02technical SEO bits go into into uh that
- 25:04behind that uh and most business owners
- 25:07obviously they do not have the exact
- 25:08marketing background and it's also a lot
- 25:11more technically challenging even if
- 25:13let's say you have WordPress actually
- 25:15getting around the WordPress backend 80%
- 25:18of our clients never have never logged
- 25:19into their WordPress backends so it's
- 25:22it's not that easy for for a new person
- 25:24to just immediately directly log into
- 25:26WordPress and just get around with with
- 25:28filling out a lot of stuff and editing
- 25:30pages and all of that. But Google
- 25:32Business Profile on the other hand,
- 25:34Google has made a good job of making it
- 25:36simple enough that any business owner
- 25:38can fill all fill out all of the stuff.
- 25:40>> So fill out fill out everything. Yeah.
- 25:42>> Yeah. And what would work I mean the
- 25:45combination of three things would work
- 25:46really well is you start with getting
- 25:49your Google business profile uh
- 25:50optimized like fill out all the details
- 25:53upload some really nice pictures uh that
- 25:55you get and get like 10 reviews
- 25:59uh make it a goal for you to even if you
- 26:02have to do a free job for them just do
- 26:04it but get those 10 reviews uh the
- 26:07initial 10 reviews could also come from
- 26:09your friends and family uh so but again
- 26:12don't send it out to someone in uh who's
- 26:14a friend in another country and he's
- 26:16just leaving a review from there because
- 26:18then it's obvious for Google if the the
- 26:22friends
- 26:22>> What do you mean? Sorry. What do you
- 26:23mean he's leaving a review from there?
- 26:25So the person's giving the review from
- 26:27you have a lot of reviews and you're
- 26:29getting you're suddenly getting a review
- 26:30from halfway around the world.
- 26:32>> Exactly. Yeah. So I mean or or it's a
- 26:34new new Google business profile you have
- 26:36set up and you're based in US and now
- 26:38you are sending it to somewhere in uh in
- 26:40India for example. Okay. Can could you
- 26:42please uh leave me a review? Google
- 26:44knows very well and what Google is
- 26:47trying to do obviously is reduce the
- 26:49amount of manual checks and that they
- 26:51have to do because that that will save
- 26:52them a lot of money. So all of their AI
- 26:55triggers are very much in place to
- 26:57understand oh this guy is in New Delhi
- 27:00how is he and how and why is he leaving
- 27:02a review for for a business in New York?
- 27:04He has never been there. They know from
- 27:06your history and all of that. So yeah,
- 27:09don't make it very obvious for Google
- 27:10that okay, we are trying to manipulate
- 27:12the game.
- 27:13>> Manipulate it.
- 27:14>> You're right.
- 27:15>> Google, Google will Google Google Maps
- 27:17will see where you've been.
- 27:19>> Yeah, exactly. So, and even your current
- 27:22location, your past data, everything is
- 27:24there. So like one of thing could Google
- 27:27ignore. But if if it sees, oh, why is
- 27:29this guy suddenly receiving five or 10
- 27:31reviews from different parts of the
- 27:33world? it would put some sort of then
- 27:36they would do put some sort of blocker
- 27:38in you for for the timing to see are you
- 27:40trying to manipulate the game
- 27:43>> and and posting weekly updates.
- 27:47>> Yeah. So I mean uh the updates itself
- 27:50they do not do a lot in terms of ranking
- 27:53but the but it is very very important to
- 27:55show you are active as a business. So if
- 27:58let's say if you're looking for uh any
- 28:01sort of service in the service industry
- 28:03which business would you prefer more
- 28:05that is very active on their Google
- 28:07business profile they're replying to
- 28:08reviews uh even if there's a negative
- 28:11review for that matter they have they're
- 28:12very uh in a very decent way they
- 28:15acknowledge it and try to fix the
- 28:16situation or you go about a business
- 28:19where they don't actually care about
- 28:20even replying to any reviews that they
- 28:22have received they're not posting
- 28:23anything. So it it kind of feels like
- 28:25it's a barren land that these guys are
- 28:27are not uh doing. It's almost as if you
- 28:30have a physical store and you're not
- 28:32doing cleaning. So So you have cleaned
- 28:34it once and you feel like okay next year
- 28:36I I'll just clean it up again. That's
- 28:39that's not how business works. So uh in
- 28:43general both Google and and as a as a
- 28:45business as a uh regular person just
- 28:48looking for any sort of service I would
- 28:50any day pick a business that uh that is
- 28:52posting constant updates offers and all
- 28:54of that. So yeah that that's what I
- 28:57think
- 28:58>> posting yeah so so posting constant
- 29:00updates posting I mean posting pictures
- 29:04of you and customers posting jobs that
- 29:06you did posting new offers.
- 29:10Yeah, posting things that you're excited
- 29:11about uh
- 29:13>> and reviews as well. So when you receive
- 29:16a good review, what we do is we take
- 29:19that as a screenshot and and very easily
- 29:22you can create uh like an infographic
- 29:25kind of thing in Canva and then just
- 29:28post that and that post could also go to
- 29:30your Facebook to your Instagram. Uh so
- 29:33when someone is coming on to your Google
- 29:35business profile or your checking out
- 29:37their social media a happy review a good
- 29:39review is always a good thing. So uh for
- 29:42one of our clients what uh what we do is
- 29:45uh they take the pictures with a client
- 29:47after a good job and and and and they
- 29:50also get the review from them on the
- 29:52Google business profile. So put both of
- 29:53them together in one image and that
- 29:56image could then be posted as an update
- 29:57on your Google business profile on your
- 29:59Facebook even on Instagram. So uh when a
- 30:02new customer is is looking uh whether
- 30:05they should choose you that becomes a
- 30:07really good indicator for them.
- 30:09>> Yeah man that is you got to you got to
- 30:12share the positive reviews you get
- 30:14across social media. Put a put it on
- 30:17your Instagram story put it put on your
- 30:19Tik Tok story. Put it everywhere. Don't
- 30:21be afraid like about like oversharing.
- 30:24If you're getting good reviews you you
- 30:27need to be diligent about sharing them.
- 30:31Exactly. And be over vocal. I mean, just
- 30:33just
- 30:35>> to the point of just being Yeah. being
- 30:37uh kind of what you would say being a
- 30:39show off. If you're getting good
- 30:41reviews, why why not show it off?
- 30:43>> Yeah. All right. Next next tweet in this
- 30:46thread. We spent so much time. But that
- 30:48first tweet was just this is this is why
- 30:50that that thread you made did so well
- 30:53because there is so much value packed
- 30:56into every single post in this in this
- 30:58thread. All right. Okay, so the next one
- 31:00is
- 31:01>> build one single page that prints money.
- 31:04Not our services, not welcome to ABC
- 31:08Plumbing, one page that's built to rank
- 31:11and convert. Examples: Sameday Drain
- 31:14Cleaning in Denver or Affordable Tree
- 31:17Removal Charlotte, North Carolina, or
- 31:20Top Rated AC Repair in Phoenix. Book
- 31:22now. Make it obvious what you do, where,
- 31:26and why they should care. No fluff.
- 31:30>> Exactly. So if uh what when most of new
- 31:34businesses that come to us for working
- 31:36uh with our SEO is they'll have a good
- 31:38website but they'll have just like that
- 31:40one page of our services like if they're
- 31:43plumber oh or we do plumbing services
- 31:45well good which area do you do it? What
- 31:48are are you covering it on on your
- 31:51website with the nearby neighborhood
- 31:53cities? So what I generally tell them is
- 31:56any local uh business related keyword
- 31:58that people are searching for. Uh you'll
- 32:01first obviously see the map pack which
- 32:02is the three pack but then you'll also
- 32:04see the website website listings there.
- 32:07Now the map pack is extremely proximity
- 32:10dependent right uh so are you within
- 32:12like the 15 20 mile radius of the
- 32:14searcher and those who are even if you
- 32:17have great SEO it the proximity would
- 32:19still take over right but the website
- 32:21part of things they are not as proximity
- 32:24dependent so if you are based in one
- 32:26area but you can and especially in the
- 32:28case of contractors and service service
- 32:31based industry you can travel to a
- 32:33nearby 10 cities right uh you can go to
- 32:3510 neighborhoods nearby So are you
- 32:38creating those what we call as either
- 32:40service area pages or in simple terms
- 32:43money pages? Uh though those are the
- 32:46ones that will help you rank in
- 32:48neighborhood areas where your Google
- 32:50business profile cannot because you're
- 32:53not you're far away from them but
- 32:55realistically you can still travel to
- 32:56those areas. So it's uh that is what we
- 32:59say is create a page and structure the
- 33:02page in especially also the URLs in in a
- 33:05uh in such a way that it's very obvious
- 33:07for Google and and the Google bot is
- 33:09where you are located and what service
- 33:11you are providing. So all of the and
- 33:13that is how what we do is we cater all
- 33:16of the neighborhood cities that uh our
- 33:18clients can go to and then even if their
- 33:20Google business profile is not ranking
- 33:22there because it's let's say uh 30 mi uh
- 33:25far but they can travel to to there to
- 33:27serve it uh they rank for it and and
- 33:29they get traffic from there
- 33:31>> and sometimes you see you see the map
- 33:33pack and it's the business had a good an
- 33:37optimized Google business profile and
- 33:38it's showing up in the map pack and then
- 33:40because they're doing good SEO on their
- 33:41site showing going up below. So you you
- 33:44kind of you get hit with the brand and
- 33:46then you keep looking and you see the
- 33:47brand again. Yeah. Super strong. Really
- 33:49increases clickthrough rate,
- 33:51>> right? Because uh the and this works uh
- 33:55especially when when your other
- 33:56competitors are not especially focusing
- 33:58on the website side of things. So as a
- 34:01as a regular uh customer searching for
- 34:03it, the brand recall is already done
- 34:06within like in the in the the first page
- 34:08itself. So they they saw you on the
- 34:10Google maps pack and then they also saw
- 34:13your let's say number one position. So
- 34:15it I think it subconsciously kind of
- 34:17triggers them that okay oh these guys
- 34:19are ranking twice. They may be doing
- 34:21something right uh and that is why
- 34:24Google is rewarding. They don't know
- 34:25exactly it's all SEO
- 34:27>> or or what happens is they'll be like
- 34:30they'll they'll see they'll liter
- 34:31literally see the brand in the SER and
- 34:34then because they read the name a second
- 34:36before they'll be like oh I recognize
- 34:38this company and they don't they don't
- 34:39even realize that they recognize the
- 34:41company because they saw it a second
- 34:42before in the map pack they're just like
- 34:44oh
- 34:44>> yes
- 34:46exactly and and then that becomes a lot
- 34:48uh easier for you to kind of convert
- 34:50them as well so
- 34:53for for our clients that is what we
- 34:54Okay, that always go for the true two
- 34:57prime primed approach. Obviously, when
- 34:59you invest both in the Google business
- 35:01profile and the website, you'll have to
- 35:04spend more on SEO. Uh but then that is
- 35:07how you are actually creating the mode
- 35:09uh with your SEO and couple of years
- 35:12down the line then you are the dominant
- 35:14player in the space. I want to give um I
- 35:17want to give a fan question now because
- 35:18we got I had a bunch of of fan comments
- 35:21from the podcast I made where I read
- 35:24your this thread and someone said I have
- 35:27a roofing website in Queens, New York.
- 35:30Just want to make sure I understand the
- 35:32structure correctly. Should I create a
- 35:34page for each service times neighborhood
- 35:37combination? So for example, flat roof
- 35:40repair cost Atoria or flat roof repair
- 35:43cost Bayside, flat roof repair cost
- 35:45forest hills, etc. That means if I have
- 35:4810 services in 10 neighborhoods, I'd end
- 35:50up with 100 pages, many of them covering
- 35:53essentially the same topic like flat
- 35:55roof repair costs just for different
- 35:58areas. And I think actually, you know
- 36:00what the question goes? What's the right
- 36:02approach to do this without it being
- 36:04flagged as spam or duplicate content by
- 36:07Google? Yeah, no citations, no
- 36:10backlinks. Should we copy paste pages
- 36:12with different m municipalities? Should
- 36:14I do same day plumbing or same day
- 36:17plumbing staffford etc. Yeah.
- 36:20So, uh uh it's a it's a deep question in
- 36:22the sense start with actually
- 36:24bifurcating your uh services first. So
- 36:28let's say you have 10 services and you
- 36:30are also going uh after 10 locations. Uh
- 36:33it's not never a bad idea to actually
- 36:36create a unique service area page for
- 36:38each service plus uh location
- 36:40combination. Uh don't obviously don't go
- 36:44after creating all of the 100 pages at
- 36:45once and just launching them like uh
- 36:47you're doing programmatic SEO. Be
- 36:49diligent about it. Spread that out
- 36:51across a few months. Uh so that that
- 36:53also gives Google time to to index
- 36:55everything.
- 36:57But the way we decide things is just
- 37:00look for do the keyword research for
- 37:02that particular page and see what Google
- 37:04is preferring. For example, uh is if
- 37:08like flat roof repair in in whatever
- 37:10area. Is Google ranking just roofer
- 37:13pages there or is it preferring to rank
- 37:15flat roof repair pages in the subs? That
- 37:18itself is a giveaway what Google wants
- 37:21to see for that particular keyword.
- 37:24Basically what we're trying to
- 37:25understand there by looking at it is
- 37:27what kind of search intent Google thinks
- 37:29that is is it a completely different
- 37:32search intent for Google that yeah flat
- 37:34roof repair is a diff slightly different
- 37:36intent than just roof roofer near me and
- 37:40that is that will be very obvious for
- 37:42you just by looking at at Google. So I I
- 37:45use this proverb where I say SEO is kind
- 37:48of playing poker but you can see your
- 37:50your competitor's cards or your opponent
- 37:52cards. So, uh, you can make all of that
- 37:55call just by looking at at stuff what's
- 37:57ranking.
- 37:59>> At what point at what point do you say
- 38:03these are doorway pages, these are going
- 38:05to be seen as spam?
- 38:08>> Yeah. So, one very good point is just
- 38:10don't go about keeping 90% of the
- 38:13content same on all pages and you're
- 38:14just changing the city name each create
- 38:17each page with local intent. talk about
- 38:20the the uh the local stuff there. Talk
- 38:23about the geography there, zip codes. Uh
- 38:26so make it uh what generally uh
- 38:29businesses and and uh SEOs do is they'll
- 38:31create like a structure. Oh, this would
- 38:33be the structure for this page and
- 38:35programmatically we are just going to
- 38:37publish all of them but we'll change
- 38:38just like the 10% of it. Don't do that.
- 38:41That is very obvious at at this day and
- 38:43age that you're trying to game the
- 38:45system uh programmatically. So, uh,
- 38:48>> and Google and Google will actually
- 38:50penalize websites that do this. It's
- 38:52worth saying like you will you can be
- 38:54hit
- 38:55>> by Google if you do this.
- 38:57>> Yeah, you can survive in the in the
- 38:58short run, but eventually there would be
- 39:01some update that's going to take you uh
- 39:03take all of your traffic away. One more
- 39:05thing that that you can do to make
- 39:06>> Well, no. Google literally they
- 39:08literally say this in their terms. It's
- 39:10called doorway pages or like pages,
- 39:11right? Yeah. Don't do this.
- 39:13And one one more thing that you can do
- 39:15to specifically make each location page
- 39:18unique is see if you have reviews from
- 39:20that particular area. That review could
- 39:23be one of uh your main things on that
- 39:25page that oh we have a client we had a
- 39:27client from this area. This is what they
- 39:29say about us. So you'll have to think of
- 39:31things that you can uniquely include on
- 39:33each page. It like you said it cannot be
- 39:36uh like that spam tactics where 90% of
- 39:38the page is same for each page and
- 39:40you're just publishing them all at once.
- 39:42that's not going to work. Uh even if it
- 39:44does work in the short run, you will get
- 39:46feel less some sometimes.
- 39:48>> I'll tell you, Sarvesh, something that
- 39:50annoys me about businesses that try to
- 39:52do this that just try to push out all
- 39:54these doorway pages really fast. It's
- 39:56like if you actually take the time to
- 40:00and it's not even that much time to make
- 40:02a good local page for a specific area.
- 40:05Again, not that much time. really just
- 40:07has to be like 400 words and and mention
- 40:10things that are specific to that area.
- 40:13What what the homes look like, how the
- 40:15homes are different from other areas,
- 40:16like the what the events are like in the
- 40:19area, like you said, reviews from people
- 40:21in the area. But take the time to make a
- 40:23good specific page. That page is going
- 40:26to rank number one for years and it's
- 40:29going to bring you so many sales and it
- 40:32is easily worth the time that you put in
- 40:35to make a 400word page. It is easily
- 40:38worth the time and and businesses want
- 40:40to take these stupid shortcuts. What are
- 40:43you what are you doing? And yeah and
- 40:46that and it comes back to what to what
- 40:48you said which which is build one single
- 40:52page that prints money.
- 40:55And a a lot of it also has to be blamed
- 40:57to a lot of these AI rapper assasses
- 40:59that are coming out right now. Uh they
- 41:02say, "Oh, you can just give us the
- 41:03keyword and and we'll put together all
- 41:04of the pages for you very quickly." But
- 41:07you have to understand it's it's going
- 41:08to be very challenging for GPT to come
- 41:10out with really new unique content
- 41:13without actually prompting it that well.
- 41:16So as a business owner, you think, "Oh,
- 41:18well, it can just publish 100 pages for
- 41:20me in one day. why do why should I go
- 41:23with with with SEOs who take like five
- 41:26months to to do that but you're not
- 41:27seeing the quality of the page that's
- 41:29being published and uh eventually I'd
- 41:32also say uh to add to your point because
- 41:34you are there locally the things that
- 41:37you can add to that page would be much
- 41:40more uh informative than what an AI can
- 41:43do. So wherever you are located you
- 41:46definitely know the area and the city
- 41:47much better than than any AI would ever
- 41:50know about. So add those nuances to it.
- 41:53Add those pointers to it. That will make
- 41:55it look like to Google that yes, you are
- 41:57there. You know the area. You know the
- 41:59space.
- 42:00>> Local media too. Local images, local
- 42:03video like images, videos of the
- 42:06specific area.
- 42:08>> Yeah. Make it specific. So when you say
- 42:10when you say build one single page that
- 42:12prints money, not our services, not
- 42:14welcome to ABC Plumbing, one page that's
- 42:16built to rank and convert. You give
- 42:18those examples. make it obvious what
- 42:20what you do where and why they should
- 42:21care. No fluff. Do you feel that this
- 42:24also applies to software as a service to
- 42:26SAS or to ecom?
- 42:30>> Not so much. Uh for them the the goal is
- 42:34is entirely different. And they are most
- 42:37SAS and most lo most e-commerce are not
- 42:40actually location dependent as well. So
- 42:42>> well no I'm not talking about I'm not
- 42:43talking about like locations for for
- 42:45SAS. I'm I'm saying does this concept of
- 42:48build of build these these pages that
- 42:52print money that are very specific
- 42:56that where like cuz what you gave are
- 42:58like same day drain cleaning in Denver
- 43:01like very scenario specific affordable
- 43:04tree removal in Charlotte North Carolina
- 43:06very scenario specific that that sort of
- 43:09stuff
- 43:10>> and that is very very spot on because if
- 43:13you have to learn how to write a good
- 43:16page that converts. Look at these bigger
- 43:19SAS because they have so much marketing
- 43:21budget and they're the best people to
- 43:23create and craft those page pages,
- 43:25right? So, see how they and I mean maybe
- 43:28manipulation is not the right word, but
- 43:30see how they actually tried to make that
- 43:32sale there. They how what kind of
- 43:35content they're putting into once you
- 43:37are landing on their page, how are they
- 43:40psych psychologically kind of moving you
- 43:43towards the sale. So you can learn so
- 43:46much from just visiting those uh bigger
- 43:48SAS pages, bigger SAS brands because
- 43:50they do a lot of testing in this space
- 43:53of okay, if someone is landing, what
- 43:55kind of CRO should be there, what kind
- 43:57of language it trigger them to actually
- 44:00subscribe and and and get within the
- 44:02funnel. So yeah, that's that's a really
- 44:04good point. Do look at at that. And uh
- 44:07e-commerce I would say in most cases is
- 44:09more more visual than SAS or anything
- 44:12for that matter because when you're
- 44:14trying to buy something how it looks and
- 44:16and what uh in most cases obviously
- 44:18there are exceptions but uh that that
- 44:20also matters really well. So one thing
- 44:22that can be learned from there is how
- 44:24they're pres how how well they're
- 44:26presenting their page uh and and the
- 44:28products on the page.
- 44:31What sort of um what sort of money pages
- 44:35should SAS companies and ecom companies
- 44:38make?
- 44:40>> Uh what sort of sorry uh
- 44:41>> what sort of money what sort of money
- 44:43pages like you said. So like for for
- 44:46local build one single page that prints
- 44:49money and you gave examples. So what
- 44:50about what does it look like for a SAS?
- 44:52What does it look like for ecom?
- 44:55So for SAS uh what uh the money pages
- 44:59that you can save for them is go very
- 45:01specific for for a use case like for
- 45:04example note note takingaking app for
- 45:07students that's one bit but note
- 45:09takingaking app for medical students
- 45:12that's another very very very niche
- 45:14audience that you're going after the
- 45:16note takingaking app for maybe a B tech
- 45:17student or or or an MS student even to
- 45:21the point of note takingaking app for
- 45:23for uh students in XY Z college I mean
- 45:26or bigger universities where you know
- 45:28there's a there's time for it these
- 45:30would be called as money pages and if I
- 45:34was a SAS that that has a good SAS but
- 45:36we're starting with SEO I cannot compete
- 45:39with just note takingaking apps keyword
- 45:41right because all of the other SAS would
- 45:43be there even Apple itself would be
- 45:45ranking there with with a few few apps
- 45:47that there that are there on the app
- 45:49store uh so going after these in a very
- 45:52strategic manner where you're catering
- 45:54to a smaller audience, it will be much
- 45:56easier for you to rank for those. H
- 45:59obviously you have to do your due
- 46:00diligence in terms of SEO, but the
- 46:02longer tail the keyword is, the higher
- 46:04your chances of of ranking for them. So
- 46:06these would be what I call like money
- 46:08page for SAS. Uh and
- 46:11>> and they're very intent driven like what
- 46:13you just described, note-taking app for
- 46:17for medical students. First of all, the
- 46:19people who are target there's not going
- 46:20to be many businesses that are targeting
- 46:22exactly that. and you target that. You
- 46:25show above the fold that you do that and
- 46:27and someone is going to be like this is
- 46:29exactly what I was looking for. This is
- 46:30what I put into Google and and someone
- 46:32targeted this exactly perfect.
- 46:34>> Right. Exactly. And so then uh the the
- 46:37chances of them converting is is
- 46:39actually a lot more higher as well. So
- 46:41for example even for us if someone is
- 46:42creating a note takingaking app for for
- 46:44for founders or note takingaking app for
- 46:47for marketers and that versus a note
- 46:50takingaking app for for for SEOs. I the
- 46:54SEO one would immediately be more u kind
- 46:57of uh apt for you. You you feel more
- 46:59connected there than just a CEO because
- 47:02there could be so many variety and types
- 47:04of of of things that a CEO look into. So
- 47:07uh the more niche you go there a your
- 47:09chances of ranking through SEO
- 47:11skyrockets and b uh the conversion rate
- 47:15would also be better and c with if you
- 47:18do that you start showing lot more often
- 47:21into into chat GP and AI mode because
- 47:25you when someone is prompting there and
- 47:28and in most cases they're logged into
- 47:29their GPT account Google uh GPT and and
- 47:32Google already know that what what you
- 47:34do in most cases they have a very good
- 47:36understanding of from the data that you
- 47:37have. So if they know and and you're all
- 47:40the time asking them question about
- 47:41medical stuff and you are just even if
- 47:44you're just asking them what should be a
- 47:45good note takingaking app for me they
- 47:47know what you do. So and then if you
- 47:50have very hyper pages on your website
- 47:53specifically talking about why this app
- 47:54is good for for medical students and you
- 47:57have backlinks uh concerning that then
- 48:00it becomes a lot more easier for any AI
- 48:02to to then recommend you
- 48:05>> dude. So, we were talking about uh my
- 48:07SEO course. We were we were texting
- 48:08about it yesterday. And this is like
- 48:10this is this is what I I say a lot of
- 48:12this in my SEO course. This is like very
- 48:15similar to my strategy, which is you
- 48:17target these longer. They're not all
- 48:20longtail because there's a specific way
- 48:22to actually find keywords that are open.
- 48:24But when you do go after keywords like
- 48:26this, a lot of them just tend to be open
- 48:28and they're they have really really high
- 48:30intent and and this stuff shows really
- 48:34really well in AI tools and it's the
- 48:37same for ecom too. The same for I had um
- 48:40I don't know if you know Kai Cromwell,
- 48:42he he specializes in shop. Yeah. So he
- 48:44was on the podcast two days ago and he
- 48:46was saying the same thing. He's like,
- 48:48he's like, "Well, it's going to be hard
- 48:50to rank for just air purifiers, but if
- 48:54we do air purifiers for children's
- 48:56bedrooms
- 48:58>> now, it's a lot easier and it's still
- 49:00extremely intent driven."
- 49:02>> Exactly. And but but for that to happen
- 49:06uh in any AI, you need to be talking
- 49:08about it on your website and you need to
- 49:11give a lot of these pages for for any AI
- 49:14to understand this. Okay, you cater
- 49:16particularly to this audience. So, if
- 49:19you're just saying it once on your
- 49:20homepage, that is not going to get you
- 49:22ranked in in all of these AIS, right? If
- 49:25you have a dedicated page for it where
- 49:27you're just talking about, let's say, uh
- 49:29medical students or or air purifiers for
- 49:33specifically for children's bedroom,
- 49:35then it becomes a lot more easier for AI
- 49:37to recommend you as well.
- 49:39>> So, it's always like a it's a win-win
- 49:41situation there. the the niche, the
- 49:43deeper you get into understanding your
- 49:45audience's demand, you win with SEO, you
- 49:48win with AI, you win with uh user intent
- 49:51and conversions. So, you win with with
- 49:53making more money.
- 49:55>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This uh this next post
- 49:58in that thread, now we're on post number
- 50:00three. I love that it's taken us so long
- 50:02to get here, but it it's just because
- 50:04every single post is packed with so much
- 50:06value. This next post was actually it
- 50:08this might have been my favorite one in
- 50:10the entire in the entire thread. So, you
- 50:14wrote, "Write content that feels like it
- 50:17came from the neighborhood, not some
- 50:19generic tips for home homeowners
- 50:21garbage, real local stuff like how to
- 50:25spot roof damage after a Gulf Coast
- 50:27storm, best time of year to prune oaks
- 50:30in Austin, what an what an AC tuneup
- 50:34actually costs in Miami. Speak to
- 50:37locals. Use street names if you have
- 50:39to."
- 50:41>> Yeah. uh I mean and and this is it's a
- 50:43very uh simple thing. It's a very small
- 50:46thing but most businesses actually skip
- 50:48on that if I was uh you have to think of
- 50:52the so the way we do SEO is we think of
- 50:54the throughout journey of how a user
- 50:58would would basically see the whole uh
- 51:00thing on your website. So if I am
- 51:02looking for okay do I need my uh AC
- 51:05maintenance done right now? I mean let's
- 51:07say Phoenix is it the right time to to
- 51:09actually do it or should I wait after a
- 51:13couple of months what would be the best
- 51:14time to do it uh how much it would cost
- 51:17so think of it as questions that you
- 51:20that your buyers and and users would
- 51:22have and it always work this works
- 51:24across industries across spaces uh is if
- 51:27you're answering the questions that your
- 51:28users may have pre in both stages even
- 51:33like before buying it and and even if
- 51:35they're in post buying journey Even if
- 51:37you're answering that, you're still on
- 51:39top of their mind if they're looking to
- 51:40make another purchase. So I mean local
- 51:43is always there for SAS. If the uh if
- 51:46let's say people are asking about
- 51:47medical and and you're answering
- 51:50specific questions that they may be
- 51:51asking these days, it's very easy. You
- 51:53can just go to any uh keyword research
- 51:55tool and just enter the broader topic
- 51:57and it will show you all of the
- 51:58questions that people are asking. I
- 52:00think answer the public also does it
- 52:02really well. Uh and even GPT does it.
- 52:05But then the problem with it is it GPT
- 52:07does not have exact data of what kind of
- 52:09search volumes are there. So, and I I
- 52:13actually say this to to uh to businesses
- 52:15as well is if you feel like there's a
- 52:18question that is not showing any search
- 52:20volume on Google, but you know that
- 52:23there people would be searching from it
- 52:24and always go for it because you can
- 52:27never go wrong answering your your
- 52:29customers questions
- 52:31>> and and can you talk more about just
- 52:34making it Yeah. I'm making it more like
- 52:37um cuz you see some blogs that just feel
- 52:40like they exist entirely for SEO.
- 52:44And
- 52:45>> I think I think like if you are making a
- 52:48real if you're actually building like a
- 52:50real brand,
- 52:52people who want to actually become loyal
- 52:54to the brand will go and check out your
- 52:56blog. And if it if it's just a bunch of
- 53:00boring
- 53:02boring SEO content, like boring
- 53:05skyscraper posts for for generic
- 53:09keywords,
- 53:10it's not going to get the same brand
- 53:13loyalty
- 53:14that that you could get if you're not
- 53:17doing that. And that's to me what this
- 53:20write content that feels like it came
- 53:22from the neighborhood comment feels
- 53:24like.
- 53:26So, so if if your feel your content is
- 53:29is good enough to be featured on your
- 53:31homepage, that is when you know you have
- 53:33done a good job. If you if you have to
- 53:35hide it within uh like a blog category
- 53:38and all of that and if you feel like oh
- 53:40it's better not be on my homepage or in
- 53:42my navigation, you know already that you
- 53:45have not put in there for that should
- 53:46have gone there. Again, not to say that
- 53:49even generic content is not working well
- 53:51right now. It's working really well
- 53:52across. If you go to any any uh local
- 53:56business space, you see generic blocks
- 53:58are still doing fairly well. But again,
- 54:00if you're just adding 10 20% off extra
- 54:04effort to add something unique to that
- 54:07space of of about that neighborhood and
- 54:10and all of that stuff that then that
- 54:13future proofs your SEO. So think of it
- 54:16in the long term. I know it's it's going
- 54:18to be a bit of effort just going into
- 54:19pages and adding stuff, adding your
- 54:22experience, adding that neighborhood
- 54:24stuff, but in the long run it will be be
- 54:27very easy for Google to understand or
- 54:28any AI to understand because that is
- 54:30something most of the other business
- 54:33would not be talking about on their
- 54:34page. So that is the unique uh concept.
- 54:37So there was something I was reading
- 54:38about in AI is information gain.
- 54:42Basically what kind of information gain
- 54:44are you giving on a page? because AI
- 54:47almost already has all of the
- 54:48information that that they need to uh
- 54:51have. So are you adding something on the
- 54:53page where it it it is giving something
- 54:55unique to the AI and it is it could be
- 54:58personal anecdote that you're based
- 55:01there that you know okay you know there
- 55:03is uh there could be a storm coming in
- 55:05in XY Z months in generally that happens
- 55:09and when it happens your roof would see
- 55:12these things. So, so if you have to
- 55:14prepare for it, do this. If something
- 55:16like this happens, then do this. That
- 55:19adds some sort of information gain in
- 55:21the article that is not very easily
- 55:23available. So, uh and that is why I mean
- 55:26honestly AI is preferring videos and all
- 55:28of that a lot because there you are
- 55:30actually adding some sort of uh added
- 55:32value to people. And so, yeah, again, uh
- 55:36to kind of reiterate, uh those blogs are
- 55:38still ranking very well, but it's always
- 55:41good to go that extra mile.
- 55:43>> Yeah. Yeah. Are you So, we've been
- 55:45recording for almost an hour. Are you
- 55:46able to to keep going for a little bit
- 55:48longer, or do you have a hard stop
- 55:49coming up?
- 55:50>> No, that's fine. Uh so, I have I have
- 55:54another 30 minutes. No problem.
- 55:55>> Okay, cool. Yeah, because I'm I'm
- 55:57enjoying this. Um, and I and I Yeah,
- 55:59it's I like making I like that that
- 56:03piece that you said make if it's an SEO
- 56:05blog post, make it something that you
- 56:07think is good enough to actually share
- 56:10on your homepage. That's that was that
- 56:12was fire.
- 56:13>> So, you said um you said fix this is the
- 56:16next post in the thread. Fix internal
- 56:18links so Google actually knows what's
- 56:20important.
- 56:21>> Most local sites are a mess. No
- 56:24structure, no flow. Fix it. The homepage
- 56:28links to core services. Services link to
- 56:31blogs. Blogs link back to services. That
- 56:34loop. That's how you build topical
- 56:36authority and rankings.
- 56:39Yeah. And and again, I mean, it's
- 56:41because we are in the SE industry, it's
- 56:43so common for us. But when you look when
- 56:47you go onto a website, you'll see 80% of
- 56:50the pages are orphaned. So again, with
- 56:52orphan, I mean it's a technical term
- 56:54that we're using. An orphan page is a
- 56:56page that has no incoming internal links
- 56:58to it. So you are not
- 57:01>> you really see that you see you see a
- 57:03lot.
- 57:04>> Wow.
- 57:04>> Yeah. Right. And especially if they have
- 57:06blogs on on there neither the blogs
- 57:09would be linking out to other blogs or
- 57:11service area pages. It it's just there.
- 57:13So just fixing that in underlinking
- 57:16helps a lot in for Google to understand
- 57:18the overall structure of your website
- 57:21and that link juice flow as well. So if
- 57:23you're building a link to the homepage,
- 57:25you that link juice flows across to
- 57:27those pages. So uh and at this point,
- 57:30Google is is very smart enough to even
- 57:32understand what's the context you're
- 57:34using to interlink, right? Uh do that. I
- 57:38actually read a case study where very
- 57:40recently someone what someone did was
- 57:42they published a page uh on a website
- 57:44and and just kept the page uh pages
- 57:47title blank and because uh and they
- 57:51created a a backlink from another
- 57:53website.
- 57:54>> This was my video. I put this out
- 57:56yesterday.
- 57:56>> Oh yeah. Yes. Okay. Brilliant. Yes. So I
- 57:59I forgot where it was but but great.
- 58:01Yeah. That was great stuff. So you saw
- 58:03that right? I mean Google picked up that
- 58:06anchor text. So we have to experience.
- 58:08>> Yeah. So what so what it was was Dejan
- 58:10SEO. He's a really really well-known
- 58:12SEO. So they did a test where they had
- 58:16they had a site with a page that was
- 58:17blank and then they had a bunch of other
- 58:20pages on other websites linking to it
- 58:23with all the the anchor text was banana.
- 58:26And the page wasn't even about bananas.
- 58:29It wasn't about bananas. But Google
- 58:32showed the page title in the SERs as
- 58:35banana because all the anchor text from
- 58:37the other sites were linking to this
- 58:39page,
- 58:40>> right? And and I mean uh it's so it kind
- 58:44of also made me wonder we are
- 58:46progressing ahead but are we also
- 58:48looping in? So is it is is Google
- 58:51getting smarter and dumber at the same
- 58:52time?
- 58:53>> A lot of people would say yes to that.
- 58:55[laughter]
- 58:57>> Right. So yeah to kind of answer the
- 59:00question that internal linking and and
- 59:03if you do it in a strategic way it is a
- 59:05game changer still and again anything
- 59:07that I I say with local is you have to
- 59:09understand 90% of your competitors are
- 59:12not doing anything in most I mean
- 59:15obviously if you if you skip some of the
- 59:17very competitive industries
- 59:19if you are if you're targeting a smaller
- 59:21region and and and you're based in a
- 59:23smaller region most of your competitors
- 59:25would not have even a basic
- 59:28website done. Well, so if you just do
- 59:30the basics, right, you are already in a
- 59:32different league of of your own. So that
- 59:34that is what uh that's how we look at
- 59:38things when we do SEO. So you said and I
- 59:41want to know I'm going to read this
- 59:42again um this the structure and I want
- 59:44to know if this if you changed this at
- 59:47all for SAS or for ecom uh and yeah so
- 59:50how what it looks like for local for SAS
- 59:53for ecom and you said homepage links to
- 59:55core services
- 59:57links to link to blogs and then blogs
- 1:00:00link back to services
- 1:00:02>> yeah it it's mostly true in every space
- 1:00:06uh except I mean for e-commerce I I
- 1:00:09wouldn't really say you should link out
- 1:00:10from your collection pages to your
- 1:00:12blogs. It should be rather the other way
- 1:00:14around where your blogs act as the
- 1:00:16supporting content uh for for your uh
- 1:00:19collection pages. But again at the end
- 1:00:22of the day internal links has to be also
- 1:00:25uh think of in a logical manner. So
- 1:00:28let's say you have a collection page but
- 1:00:30if you feel that okay this could be a
- 1:00:33question that your customers may have
- 1:00:36like for example I mean uh air purifiers
- 1:00:39uh if you're selling air purifiers for
- 1:00:41for children bedroom for example you
- 1:00:43need to you may have a question that up
- 1:00:46till what age of children could this be
- 1:00:48useful right so if if you feel it's a
- 1:00:51very relevant thing just go ahead and
- 1:00:52and interlink it it's it's all it's
- 1:00:54always going to help you out in any ways
- 1:00:57now when I say this, I mean a lot of
- 1:00:59business owners would just go like
- 1:01:01randomly interlinking 15 pages from one
- 1:01:03page. Don't do that. Be smart about it,
- 1:01:06strategic about it. Just as a general
- 1:01:08rule rule of thumb, add three to four
- 1:01:11internal links per page. Uh and and not
- 1:01:14just go overboard with it and and sound
- 1:01:16spammy to Google that you are just
- 1:01:17trying to interink uh anything and
- 1:01:20everything on the page. I actually you
- 1:01:21wrote at the end of the thread you said
- 1:01:23so the the exact internal linking
- 1:01:25structure every page links to the
- 1:01:27homepage relevant service pages top
- 1:01:30blogs/resources
- 1:01:32use keywordrich anchors naturally this
- 1:01:35helps rankings faster than most people
- 1:01:38think and this is absolutely uh correct
- 1:01:42uh that it it helps actually helps
- 1:01:44ranking a lot faster than people think.
- 1:01:47So from outside it may sound like oh
- 1:01:49it's just internal link what what is
- 1:01:51going to do but we have run single
- 1:01:53variable test where uh which just by
- 1:01:56adding internal links to that particular
- 1:01:58new page that we have created. Uh so uh
- 1:02:01the test was we basically we're not
- 1:02:04seeing uh a lot of um visibility on that
- 1:02:08page. It was a new page that was
- 1:02:09published. So we waited for a month and
- 1:02:11then we went back and added a lot of
- 1:02:13internal links from relevant uh pages to
- 1:02:16this page and in the next about 6 7 days
- 1:02:20it's visibility and and everything in
- 1:02:21search console just shoot up. So it was
- 1:02:24like a a clear eye opener for us backed
- 1:02:27with the data that yes this works. It's
- 1:02:29it's not just a random thing and again
- 1:02:31if you think from Google's perspective
- 1:02:33it helped Google understand the context
- 1:02:35of the page a lot and links I mean
- 1:02:38obviously back links and external links
- 1:02:40are the core of Google's algorithm but
- 1:02:42an internal link also is a link that
- 1:02:44helps them understand eventually what
- 1:02:46the page is about. So we saw that
- 1:02:49firsthand and uh since then we we've
- 1:02:51never stopped with it.
- 1:02:52>> Yeah. Exactly. It's a it's clear signals
- 1:02:54to Google with two two signals which is
- 1:02:58uh how many internal links are going to
- 1:03:00this page to this URL and then also how
- 1:03:03many clicks does it get does it take to
- 1:03:05get to this page from the homepage.
- 1:03:08>> Yeah. Click click depth I think it is
- 1:03:09called right?
- 1:03:10>> Yeah.
- 1:03:10>> Crawl crawl depth crawl depth or click
- 1:03:12depth something on those lines both.
- 1:03:14Yeah. and and it does really matter and
- 1:03:18also one thing I mean uh that that also
- 1:03:20we have seen uh mattering is and Google
- 1:03:23never uh kind of uh agreed to that but I
- 1:03:26think there were leaked documents that
- 1:03:28did show that Google is using data to
- 1:03:31see how people are interacting with your
- 1:03:33page what kind of overall uh user
- 1:03:35experience there is
- 1:03:37>> yeah yeah that was that that was in the
- 1:03:39API leak last year
- 1:03:40>> yeah exactly yes so and if you ask
- 1:03:44Google to kind of just uh uh tell about
- 1:03:47I'm sure they would pretty much say,
- 1:03:48"Oh, we we don't really use Chrome
- 1:03:50data."
- 1:03:50>> No, no, actually, I think they I think
- 1:03:52they actually admitted to it in some
- 1:03:54court filings. They they
- 1:03:55>> Oh, wow. Okay, that's
- 1:03:58>> But yeah, yeah. So, they they use they
- 1:03:59use Chrome data. They use they look at
- 1:04:02they look at long clicks versus short
- 1:04:03clicks. They look at they look at how
- 1:04:05many clicks a page is get is getting
- 1:04:08versus other pages and the SERs, all
- 1:04:10sorts of things.
- 1:04:11>> Right. And one more thing is uh that
- 1:04:13that I've seen across when we audit uh
- 1:04:16businesses is you see 80 uh they have so
- 1:04:20many pages but 90% of their pages are
- 1:04:22not even ranking for a single keyword.
- 1:04:24So from Google's perspective also you
- 1:04:27have to think that they see the website
- 1:04:29as a whole right they're not seeing a
- 1:04:30website on a page by page level basis.
- 1:04:33So if 90% of your website is dead log
- 1:04:36for [snorts] them for it's a clear
- 1:04:38signal for them that maybe this is not
- 1:04:39the best uh search result we should be
- 1:04:42be pushing right so
- 1:04:45when you when we whenever we start with
- 1:04:47a new any new SEO project content
- 1:04:49pruning is also something that we very
- 1:04:52uh religiously look into is that a lot
- 1:04:54of these page what and and to answer
- 1:04:56your question a lot of the uh the
- 1:04:58businesses what they do is they'll have
- 1:05:00like a marketing manager or someone who
- 1:05:03just randomly do blogging on the website
- 1:05:06of what they feel should be like a
- 1:05:08question or what what should be a topic
- 1:05:10and has no rhyme and reason.
- 1:05:12>> But the thing is but the thing is I I
- 1:05:14got to but I got to ask you how do you
- 1:05:15balance between uh between user
- 1:05:19experience and branding versus when
- 1:05:22you're doing a content prune. How do you
- 1:05:24b how do you balance between user
- 1:05:26experience and branding versus versus
- 1:05:29SEO?
- 1:05:31Because because yeah some content might
- 1:05:33some content might not be might not be
- 1:05:36ranking
- 1:05:37>> but actually for people who care about
- 1:05:39the brand it could still be very
- 1:05:41valuable.
- 1:05:42>> Yeah I agree and it uh then I mean uh in
- 1:05:46that case you have to strike a very
- 1:05:47logical balance manually because then
- 1:05:50you just cannot go uh randomly by data
- 1:05:53that okay uh 90% of the pages are not
- 1:05:55getting traffic. You have to actually
- 1:05:57manually check each page whether this
- 1:05:59serves any purpose at all. If it serves
- 1:06:02a branding purpose, that's also great.
- 1:06:04If it serves an SEO purpose, that's also
- 1:06:06great. But if it's doing neither of
- 1:06:08them, then I mean uh let's say if you
- 1:06:11have talked about a like a fair that
- 1:06:14your team went into 5 years ago and
- 1:06:16that's a blog and it's eventually not
- 1:06:19solving any purpose from this point
- 1:06:21onwards, right? So you'll have to take a
- 1:06:23call on on on that on a page by page
- 1:06:26level basis that whether or not this
- 1:06:28page needs to be there anymore.
- 1:06:30>> Yeah. Or or like uh the marketing
- 1:06:33manager put in some SEO plugin and
- 1:06:35created all these category and tag pages
- 1:06:38just automatically and they're still in
- 1:06:40there.
- 1:06:41>> Yeah, you wouldn't believe. I mean a lot
- 1:06:44of crazy stuff you'd see when you're
- 1:06:45auditing your website and on the front
- 1:06:47end it would look like oh it seems like
- 1:06:49a five page of website because there's
- 1:06:51nothing in the navigation but the moment
- 1:06:54you log into the WordPress and you click
- 1:06:55on posts or pages you see 1,043 pages
- 1:06:59you're like okay what happened why do
- 1:07:01[laughter] we why do this business has
- 1:07:04thousand pages already so this has
- 1:07:06happened uh quite frequently with us
- 1:07:09>> do you are there any CMSs that you
- 1:07:11recommend to people who aren't maybe
- 1:07:14they're not savvy enough to use
- 1:07:15WordPress. So like other CMS's that that
- 1:07:19work well with SEO.
- 1:07:23>> Okay, that that's an interesting
- 1:07:25question and a tough one.
- 1:07:26>> I can I can give my recommendation. Uh
- 1:07:28my recommendation actually is I've seen
- 1:07:30Squarespace people say Wix, but
- 1:07:33personally it's
- 1:07:34>> very horrible for SEO.
- 1:07:35>> Yeah, I've Squarespace though.
- 1:07:38>> Squarespace is great. It's so easy to
- 1:07:41use. It's It's like It's like playing
- 1:07:43Mario. It's so It's that easy. It's like
- 1:07:45drag drag and drop really into My mom
- 1:07:47has a Squarespace site is like Yeah. And
- 1:07:49it And it works really for for like
- 1:07:52actually a lot of the S SEO that we're
- 1:07:54talking about internal linking clear
- 1:07:56internal linking structure. Um and and
- 1:08:00having pages that that rank, creating
- 1:08:02money pages. I would recommend if you're
- 1:08:04not because I mean I use WordPress.
- 1:08:06Sounds like you use WordPress. But but
- 1:08:09yeah, Squarespace works really well too.
- 1:08:11I
- 1:08:11>> I agree 100%. And Wix is easy to use,
- 1:08:14but then the SEO part of it just sucks.
- 1:08:17So don't go there. Web flow is is a
- 1:08:21beautiful like platform for really
- 1:08:24good-look website, but it's it's complex
- 1:08:26enough for even SEOs, right? And then uh
- 1:08:30Shopify is for e-commerce. So it's it's
- 1:08:32almost standard there. and WordPress is
- 1:08:35really good, but then also like you
- 1:08:36said, it's it's not for an average uh
- 1:08:39business owner who does not know his way
- 1:08:41around websites. So, Squarep definitely
- 1:08:43takes the cake there. I 100% agree.
- 1:08:45>> Yeah. Uh so, okay, you're actually this
- 1:08:49is the last this is the last post in the
- 1:08:51thread.
- 1:08:52>> Um the one that I read before was
- 1:08:54technically the last post, but this is
- 1:08:55the one that I haven't read yet, and
- 1:08:57it's about a technical SEO audit. So,
- 1:08:59you said run a full technical SEO audit
- 1:09:02before touching keywords or content.
- 1:09:05Fire up screaming frog and crawl the
- 1:09:07entire site, fix broken links, duplicate
- 1:09:10titles/descriptions,
- 1:09:12missing H1s, redirect chains, canonical
- 1:09:16tag issues. If the site's foundations
- 1:09:18are broken, nothing else sticks.
- 1:09:22>> Exactly. And it's it's much easier than
- 1:09:26than you think. So you don't even need p
- 1:09:30paid screaming frog in most cases. You
- 1:09:31can just fire up a free screaming frog
- 1:09:34version and if you have like I think
- 1:09:35there's a limit of 200 500 pages, right?
- 1:09:39>> So in most local businesses never have
- 1:09:41500 pages anyways. just do that audit
- 1:09:44and at this point you can even connect I
- 1:09:47think chat GPT with your screaming frog
- 1:09:50and you it will give you all of the
- 1:09:52outputs of the H1s if they're missing
- 1:09:54what should the H1 be what should the
- 1:09:56meta title be what should the meta
- 1:09:58description be uh so again I not said
- 1:10:01this this it would work brilliantly in
- 1:10:04in very competitive spaces especially
- 1:10:06SAS or or e-commerce but for local you
- 1:10:09would not believe what kind of results
- 1:10:10we get from just doing these It's it's
- 1:10:13very basic.
- 1:10:13>> I think I think that works for SAS and
- 1:10:15SAS and ecom too, which is if you have a
- 1:10:17broken site, like if the foundations are
- 1:10:20broken, nothing else.
- 1:10:21>> Yeah.
- 1:10:22>> Right.
- 1:10:23>> I call I call it defensive I call it
- 1:10:25defensive SEO. If you want to do
- 1:10:26offensive SEO where you're bringing
- 1:10:28people who are going to give you money
- 1:10:30or use your SAS or whatever or buy your
- 1:10:32products, whatever it is,
- 1:10:34>> make sure your foundations are good.
- 1:10:37>> Yeah. Exactly. and and getting just
- 1:10:40those basic foundation done right could
- 1:10:42be a game changer in most cases and you
- 1:10:44can anyways not move with the next steps
- 1:10:46if you do not have a
- 1:10:48>> wait you know what's you know what's
- 1:10:49crazy Sarvves you'll and I'm sure you've
- 1:10:50seen this a million times which is like
- 1:10:53you'll fix the foundations and then all
- 1:10:55of a sudden existing content on your
- 1:10:57site starts ranking
- 1:10:59>> like
- 1:11:00>> exactly
- 1:11:01>> all of a sudden turns out your site
- 1:11:03could rank it was just it was
- 1:11:05>> broken
- 1:11:07>> and Now do not believe I mean we would
- 1:11:10see uh a very nice looking website but
- 1:11:12they have like five H1s. Why? Because
- 1:11:15even the popup is an H1. Uh even where
- 1:11:17they are collecting the emails that is
- 1:11:19an H1. So uh you are confusing Google a
- 1:11:22lot
- 1:11:23>> or the staging site isn't set to no
- 1:11:25index. I've seen that too.
- 1:11:27>> Wow. That's that's crazy.
- 1:11:29>> Yeah. The canonicals aren't set and the
- 1:11:31staging site is a duplicate. Yeah.
- 1:11:35>> True. True. And and I mean and a lot of
- 1:11:38these developers would say they know
- 1:11:40SEO, but eventually when you actually
- 1:11:42look at the final work, you'd be like,
- 1:11:44"Oh, come on." [laughter]
- 1:11:46>> No.
- 1:11:47>> So, and and uh I mean, I I definitely do
- 1:11:50say this to business owners. Don't sign
- 1:11:52up for SEO packages from your web
- 1:11:54developer, but I mean I know it's a it's
- 1:11:57an additional uh uh ticket added in
- 1:12:00their revenue that they'll say, "Oh,
- 1:12:01we'll also manage your SEO for $50 a
- 1:12:03month." you. I mean, how can you even
- 1:12:06expect someone to do SEO at $50 a month?
- 1:12:09You know, they're not going to do
- 1:12:10anything. And uh so just just don't
- 1:12:13don't spend your money there at least.
- 1:12:16>> Yeah. Okay. I want to ask you which ones
- 1:12:18of these are one most common and then
- 1:12:21two most serious. So what's what do you
- 1:12:24see the most and then what is like if
- 1:12:25you had to prioritize in terms of
- 1:12:27importance? So you said fix broken
- 1:12:30links, duplicate titles/ descriptions,
- 1:12:33missing H1s, redirect chains, and
- 1:12:35canonical tag issues. So which ones are
- 1:12:38those most common and then most severe?
- 1:12:43Uh the one that will have the highest
- 1:12:45ROI is if you're missing H1s or if you
- 1:12:47have duplicate H1s or and or if you're
- 1:12:50missing metatitle and description. app
- 1:12:53could be uh a quick win and you don't
- 1:12:56even need to put a lot of efforts these
- 1:12:58days with GPT you can just it can just
- 1:13:00generate and give it to you and all you
- 1:13:02need to do is is put in there uh that
- 1:13:04will have the the highest impact broken
- 1:13:06links on the other hand uh you'd see
- 1:13:08less on on if let's say if you have a
- 1:13:10local business that has like 10 pages
- 1:13:12how many broken links there could
- 1:13:14realistically be but at least if there
- 1:13:16are you can just go ahead and very
- 1:13:18quickly fix it so make sure you're not
- 1:13:20linking out to your staging sites from
- 1:13:22from the the uh actual website because a
- 1:13:25lot of time the developers would just
- 1:13:27leave those links there unintentionally
- 1:13:30but still there. So uh that canonical
- 1:13:33and all of these I mean uh they are very
- 1:13:36important in e-commerce side of things
- 1:13:37but not so much in in local. So I'd say
- 1:13:40start with at least where your head H1s
- 1:13:44are missing or if you have duplicate H1s
- 1:13:46and where your metadata title
- 1:13:47descriptions are missing. If you just
- 1:13:49fix that, that would be a really good
- 1:13:51starting point for for your SEO
- 1:13:53campaign.
- 1:13:54>> Yeah. Yeah. The the last uh the last
- 1:13:57thing that I want to ask and so that
- 1:14:00thread again that was amazing. But the
- 1:14:04the one um the one feedback in the
- 1:14:07comments was how is he building links?
- 1:14:09That's what people that was one of the
- 1:14:11things that people wanted to know. How
- 1:14:13are you because there wasn't I don't
- 1:14:14think there was really much in this
- 1:14:15thread about about how you build links.
- 1:14:17So how does Sarvvesh build links? How do
- 1:14:20you do it for local? How do you do it
- 1:14:22for SAS and how do you do it for ecom?
- 1:14:25>> Right? So uh I have many threads on my
- 1:14:29uh Twitter where I specifically also
- 1:14:30talk about links in detail as well. But
- 1:14:33just to give you a gist for uh local
- 1:14:37local backlinks work really well uh like
- 1:14:39your local chamber of commerce if you
- 1:14:41can donate to to uh college or sponsor
- 1:14:44something these links work really well.
- 1:14:47The only problem is the same links your
- 1:14:49competitors can get very easily as well.
- 1:14:50So if you join Chamber of Commerce and
- 1:14:53you are getting a link from there, your
- 1:14:54competitor could also just basically
- 1:14:56join Chamber of Commerce and get that
- 1:14:58link, right? So to create a mode it's
- 1:15:01important you and which is what we do is
- 1:15:04go into guest post, high quality guest
- 1:15:06post. Uh these are the links that move
- 1:15:08the needle the the most. uh they and
- 1:15:12when we do guest post we the way we
- 1:15:14structure it is add that local relevance
- 1:15:16within that article. So, so talk about
- 1:15:19that that city, that neighborhood that
- 1:15:21you're wanting to rank and maybe
- 1:15:23structure the article in in a way. And
- 1:15:25one great additional benefit that we are
- 1:15:27seeing is if you do a listical like best
- 1:15:30roofers in New York and you are number
- 1:15:32one and you do this on like five five
- 1:15:35good sites, AI will just mindlessly pick
- 1:15:37you every time because you're giving uh
- 1:15:41because it's getting validation from
- 1:15:42five different sources on the internet
- 1:15:45that is saying you are number one. So
- 1:15:47it's it's it's also a way of kind of
- 1:15:49manipulating the AI side of things that
- 1:15:51we do. So just that one back link does
- 1:15:54so many roles. It helps your website get
- 1:15:57more domain rating authority, helps you
- 1:16:00rank for more keywords, also helps you
- 1:16:01in the AI side of things and and it
- 1:16:04anything anywhere uh that you need uh
- 1:16:06that link juice to flow, you can then
- 1:16:08internally can and pass it across. So,
- 1:16:12and for relevance, local links, like I
- 1:16:14said, work really well, but it's not
- 1:16:16going to be your USB because if you can
- 1:16:18get those links, your competitors can as
- 1:16:20well.
- 1:16:21>> How are you getting guest posts?
- 1:16:24>> So, yeah, mostly uh what we do is we we
- 1:16:27do outreach in your shoulder niches. So,
- 1:16:30if it's like a home service contractor,
- 1:16:32look for uh sites that talk about home
- 1:16:34home related stuff and and and all of
- 1:16:36that. And uh we are very stringent about
- 1:16:38the quality of the site. So at the
- 1:16:41minimum metrics and it's again SEO
- 1:16:43jargon that I'm throwing for your
- 1:16:44audience but we go for at least domain
- 1:16:47rating 40 plus and they must be getting
- 1:16:49at least 2,000 monthly organic search
- 1:16:50traffic. So I read somewhere and correct
- 1:16:53me if I'm wrong that less than 5% of the
- 1:16:55site on the whole internet get any
- 1:16:57traffic from Google whatsoever. Uh so if
- 1:17:00you are very stringent with the metrics
- 1:17:02that you do and uh obviously you are
- 1:17:05avoiding link farms you will get a lot
- 1:17:07of link juice out of from that. So yeah
- 1:17:11that is what we go we do outreach
- 1:17:12ourselves for for most of the links and
- 1:17:15uh when you be in the game for for long
- 1:17:17enough you get uh a lot of opportunities
- 1:17:20and everything uh your way. So, uh, that
- 1:17:24that's what
- 1:17:24>> what do you mean? What do you mean by
- 1:17:25when you've been in what do you mean by
- 1:17:27when you've been in the game long
- 1:17:28enough, you get a lot of opportunities
- 1:17:29for guest posts.
- 1:17:31>> Uh, so, uh, basically what I meant what
- 1:17:34I mean is we do this religiously, right?
- 1:17:38So, we now we have so many sites that in
- 1:17:40in all niches that are uh that we have
- 1:17:43established relationships with. So, that
- 1:17:46helps us uh in getting links even from
- 1:17:48from their high traffic pages what we
- 1:17:50call link insertions and all of that. So
- 1:17:52that that helps there. Uh and uh then
- 1:17:55you have you have like a good database
- 1:17:57of of sites and and uh stuff that you
- 1:18:00can get links from. So that really
- 1:18:02helps.
- 1:18:02>> Yeah, that's key. You develop
- 1:18:04relationships. You have multiple
- 1:18:06multiple articles on the same sites.
- 1:18:09>> Yeah, absolutely. And then and then site
- 1:18:12owners will be more generous as well.
- 1:18:15>> Very very much. and and you also have
- 1:18:18firsthand data of how much a link from
- 1:18:21this website works in reality. So let's
- 1:18:23say I I bought a link from your website
- 1:18:25to one of my clients and I saw that okay
- 1:18:28this link actually really helped and you
- 1:18:31can see that in HS or or in Google
- 1:18:32search console that you bought the the
- 1:18:35link here and maybe one two week later
- 1:18:37you're starting to see a good uptick. So
- 1:18:39that gives you a good indication that it
- 1:18:42that this site just does not have the
- 1:18:44metric but it also actually passes it
- 1:18:46along when you get a link from them. So
- 1:18:48and then you have a good winning site
- 1:18:51that you can use across clients.
- 1:18:53>> Yeah. And okay, if you started if you
- 1:18:56started a new site tomorrow, how would
- 1:18:58you build links to it?
- 1:19:01>> Guest post. I mean that that's the
- 1:19:03easiest way. And if you have to if you
- 1:19:05do not have the time to to go and do all
- 1:19:08of the outreach, there are a lot of
- 1:19:09marketplaces that you can go into. But I
- 1:19:12mean, you have to be very uh uh cautious
- 1:19:14of of because most of the links there
- 1:19:16are link farms. Uh a lot of links, not
- 1:19:19most. So make sure you are uh doing your
- 1:19:21due diligence really well. Uh if you are
- 1:19:24a local business owner, I I mean I'd say
- 1:19:26it's it's a lot more hassle for you to
- 1:19:29actually do it yourself than to get it
- 1:19:31done from from someone who who knows
- 1:19:33what they're doing. So uh yeah, guest
- 1:19:35post all all the way.
- 1:19:37>> Would you do any other link building
- 1:19:38methods for a new website?
- 1:19:43>> Uh not really. I mean, yeah, obviously
- 1:19:45get get those uh uh citations built and
- 1:19:49and because you also get a link from
- 1:19:50there to your website and all of that.
- 1:19:52that basic links but anything else from
- 1:19:55that is it's not really uh if you have
- 1:19:57the budget go join your chamber of
- 1:19:58commerce immediately get that link as
- 1:20:00well but then that's a recurring cost as
- 1:20:03well right so you have to be uh and if
- 1:20:06you can if there are some directories in
- 1:20:09your space in your city in your niche
- 1:20:11that that do really well you can go
- 1:20:12after them them as well but I mean if I
- 1:20:15have to think from like what would give
- 1:20:17me the highest ROI that could be two or
- 1:20:20three high quality backlinks and you you
- 1:20:22could already be number one. So, so the
- 1:20:25highest ROI there, highest ROI is there
- 1:20:28with guest post.
- 1:20:30>> My last question is are there any are
- 1:20:33there any SEOs that you follow like
- 1:20:36religiously on on X or other platforms
- 1:20:40who you share who you share who sorry
- 1:20:42who you feel just share some of the
- 1:20:45greatest SEO stuff where you're like I
- 1:20:47love everything that this person posts,
- 1:20:50>> right? Kai does a really good job. He's
- 1:20:52a friend. He does really good job. I I
- 1:20:55do follow your content a lot as well. Um
- 1:20:58couple of more people. Matt Diggity has
- 1:21:00and have what Matt Diggity. Yeah,
- 1:21:03>> I've been his newsletter all the time.
- 1:21:05>> Oh, nice. Great. So, he's been doing uh
- 1:21:08I mean I've been following him since
- 1:21:09probably 2016 17 when I used to do
- 1:21:11affiliate sites. So, he's he's not into
- 1:21:14a lot more SEO these days, but yeah,
- 1:21:16he's one of the guys uh that I used to
- 1:21:19follow. Hey, Tony does really uh good uh
- 1:21:21content as well. Uh I do I do see Jackie
- 1:21:25as well sometimes of what exactly he's
- 1:21:27doing. He's on to some some really cool
- 1:21:29stuff all the time. So just check that
- 1:21:31out. I I do give it a check out uh every
- 1:21:34now and then. And uh Kal K also does
- 1:21:37drops really good banger bangers on on
- 1:21:40Twitter. So yeah, these these are a few
- 1:21:42people uh that that come to mind.
- 1:21:44>> Well, dude, your stuff your stuff kicks
- 1:21:47butt. your stuff is is great, man. And
- 1:21:50everything that you shared on this
- 1:21:51episode was so it was so fire that like
- 1:21:55I feel I feel motivated and excited. I I
- 1:21:58I felt that way when I read this thread
- 1:22:00and I feel this way talking to you. This
- 1:22:02was
- 1:22:03>> Thank you.
- 1:22:03>> You just shared some like I I might
- 1:22:05listen to this episode again myself.
- 1:22:07This was a really great one, Sarvesh.
- 1:22:10And uh I I really appreciate that your
- 1:22:14comment also keeps coming across my feed
- 1:22:16very and I I do genuinely admire how uh
- 1:22:20uh regular and consistent you are with
- 1:22:22videos. I mean video is the hardest form
- 1:22:24of of content to do. So and and I do I'm
- 1:22:27I'm very lazy there for sure. So I I
- 1:22:31>> you naturally have insane hooks and
- 1:22:35great information. If you were making
- 1:22:38shorts like me with like a month or two
- 1:22:40of practice, you would crush cuz you're
- 1:22:44cuz the stuff that you know, the stuff
- 1:22:46that you've seen, and the stuff that you
- 1:22:48say is fire, Sarvesh. So,
- 1:22:51>> thank you.
- 1:22:52>> Yeah, you you just share some.
- 1:22:53>> This is going to be fired up as well. Uh
- 1:22:55probably time to to get into the the
- 1:22:58video game a bit more.
- 1:23:00>> Awesome. Well, I I I welcome I welcome
- 1:23:02you in the arena. I look forward to to
- 1:23:04you. Where where should everybody find
- 1:23:05you, find your stuff, find your site?
- 1:23:08>> So find me on X. It's uh blogger
- 1:23:11Surveves on X. Uh Alventraarketing.com.
- 1:23:15A L V N T R A marketing.com is our
- 1:23:18website. Uh I'm quite active on LinkedIn
- 1:23:20as well. Uh and yeah, uh hopefully you
- 1:23:24guys will see more coming out with more
- 1:23:26video content now that you have fired me
- 1:23:28up as well.
- 1:23:29>> Thanks again, Sarvesh. Uh
- 1:23:31>> thanks.
- 1:23:31>> Stick around after after I hit stop.
- 1:23:33your video will have to upload. And uh
- 1:23:35for everybody who who's watching and
- 1:23:37listening, this is episode 872
- 1:23:41of the Edward Show.
- 1:23:42>> 872 days in a row doing this podcast.
- 1:23:47This was a really great one. Yeah.
- 1:23:49>> Awesome.
- 1:23:50>> Thank you so much for having me here and
- 1:23:52it's been it's been really great. Love
- 1:23:54talking. Uh I know two SEOs when when
- 1:23:57they get together, they can ramble SEO a
- 1:23:59lot, but it's been really great uh
- 1:24:01having a chat today. Yeah, Sarvesh, this
