- 2:11From ABC News World Headquarters in New
- 2:14York, this is World [music] News
- 2:16Tonight.
- 2:17>> Good evening everyone. Thanks so much
- 2:19for joining us on this Sunday. I'm
- 2:20Lindseay Davis. We begin tonight with
- 2:22breaking news. A horrific and deadly
- 2:24plane crash in a South Florida
- 2:26neighborhood. This is the terrifying
- 2:28moment. Dash cam video captured the
- 2:30private plane in a nose dive next to a
- 2:32busy road and bursting into a fireball,
- 2:35killing nine people. That plane was
- 2:37heading to the Bahamas after departing
- 2:39from Austin, Texas. It fell nearly 5
- 2:42miles in less than a minute, creating a
- 2:44giant fiery crater. At least one mobile
- 2:47home was destroyed. Tonight, one
- 2:49official described the trailer park
- 2:50where the plane went down as a crime
- 2:52scene. ABC's Victor Reendo is at the
- 2:55crash site and leads us off
- 3:00>> tonight. This is the moment a private
- 3:02jet slammed into a mobile home park in
- 3:04Palm Beach County, Florida. Captured on
- 3:07a driver's dash cam, nine people are
- 3:09dead. Something just fell down.
- 3:11>> The chartered Learjet 60 took off from
- 3:13Austin Bergstrom International Airport
- 3:15in Texas this morning and went down just
- 3:18before 100 p.m. in Palm Beach County
- 3:20about 2 hours later. Shortly before the
- 3:22crash, the pilot reported icing and
- 3:24turbulence.
- 3:25>> We're managing the ice, but it is
- 3:27moderate turbulence.
- 3:28>> Uh there's a lot of debris on the
- 3:30property. Looks like part of the roof
- 3:34cut the gate and go escape. It clipped a
- 3:36tree, knocked down power lines, and
- 3:38destroyed at least one mobile home in a
- 3:40massive fireball. The impact left a
- 3:43crater and debris across military trail.
- 3:46It's not yet clear how many of the
- 3:48victims were on the plane and how many
- 3:50were on the ground tonight. Florida
- 3:52Governor Ronda Santis speaking out on
- 3:54the Palm Beach County jet crash.
- 3:56>> To see the way it descended, I think you
- 3:58can you can u make the inference that
- 4:00that something happened in the air that
- 4:02was uh that was a big problem.
- 4:04Lindsay, this is a very active scene
- 4:06tonight. The jet crash just down the
- 4:08street from us. It plunged 350 ft a
- 4:12second, falling nearly 5 miles in just
- 4:14over a minute. The NTSB will be on the
- 4:17ground tomorrow. Lindsay,
- 4:19>> just a horrible tragedy there, Victor.
- 4:21Thank you. Now to the dramatic last
- 4:23minute twist in a critical midterm
- 4:25election in Michigan. Abdul Elsayed is
- 4:27locked in a tight battle with a
- 4:29Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers.
- 4:31Elsad's primary rival, Representative
- 4:33Haley Stevens, broke party ranks and is
- 4:36now endorsing Rogers. President Trump is
- 4:38back on the campaign trail tonight in
- 4:40Iowa and Kansas. His party is facing a
- 4:42litany of possible losses in deep red
- 4:44stakes like Texas and South Carolina.
- 4:47Steven Portoi reports tonight from
- 4:49Kansas.
- 4:50>> Tonight, a political bombshell in one of
- 4:52the year's most closely watched Senate
- 4:54races. The Michigan battle pitting
- 4:56Republican Mike Rogers against Democrat
- 4:58Abdul Elsied. Today, a stunning
- 5:01announcement from Elsa's former primary
- 5:03rival, Congresswoman Haley Stevens,
- 5:05saying she's breaking from her party and
- 5:07endorsing the Republican.
- 5:09>> I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the
- 5:12United States Senate today.
- 5:14>> Just days ago, Stevens was backing Elsa.
- 5:17>> Of course, I'm voting, you know, for our
- 5:19Democratic nominee for for Senate.
- 5:22>> The two were supposed to appear today at
- 5:24a unity event, but instead, Steven sat
- 5:26with Rogers at a black church in
- 5:28Detroit. The break part of the fallout
- 5:30from this controversial ad produced by
- 5:33backers of Elsa. The couple in the
- 5:35commercial says they can't afford
- 5:36groceries because of US support for
- 5:38Israel.
- 5:39>> What I mean, don't we give Israel $4
- 5:41billion a year anyways?
- 5:42>> Stevens called the ad anti-Semitic and
- 5:45urged Elsad to denounce it.
- 5:46>> The hateful ad came down saying, "No,
- 5:49we're we're going to continue to blame
- 5:51Jewish Americans uh for the cost of
- 5:56groceries being so high." And it it was
- 5:59just a simple thing. Let's let's condemn
- 6:02it.
- 6:02>> Elsad has said he disagrees with the ad.
- 6:05Today, he brushed off Stevens's
- 6:06endorsement of his opponent.
- 6:08>> I actually don't think about Haley
- 6:09Stevens. None of this matters.
- 6:11>> Tonight, the congresswoman's move being
- 6:13called a despicable betrayal by top
- 6:15Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer. Stevens's
- 6:17top aid and communications director,
- 6:19both resigning.
- 6:20>> I'm still a very proud Democrat. I plan
- 6:22to stay in the Democratic party.
- 6:23>> But President Trump praising Stevens for
- 6:25her quote bravery.
- 6:28As he's traveled the country, [music]
- 6:29Trump has repeatedly called Elsad a
- 6:31jihadist.
- 6:32>> I'm here to keep a
- 6:35jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member from
- 6:38becoming a United States senator, and
- 6:41that's the fact. We're not going to let
- 6:43that happen.
- 6:44>> Elsad has condemned the attacks. His
- 6:47aids have called them racist and
- 6:48Islamophobic. Trump tonight hitting the
- 6:51heartland, ending a month-long midterm
- 6:53blitz that had him appearing at more
- 6:54than two dozen rallies this month. In
- 6:56Iowa, Trump hoping to boost the chances
- 6:58of GOP Senate candidate Congresswoman
- 7:00Ashley Hinsson against Democratic state
- 7:03lawmaker Josh Turk. With Americans
- 7:05focused on the increasing costs of food,
- 7:07fuel, and housing, the president also
- 7:09returning to Kansas tonight to support
- 7:11embattled GOP Senator Roger Marshall,
- 7:13who's locked in a tight race with
- 7:15Democrat Adam Hamilton, the pastor of a
- 7:17mega church. Marshall last week praised
- 7:20Trump's record on the economy.
- 7:21>> This is one of the best economies I've
- 7:23ever seen in my lifetime. the yes, gas
- 7:26prices are too high, but the economy
- 7:27itself.
- 7:28>> Across America, voters aren't convinced.
- 7:31>> Budgeting has been a lot different now
- 7:34than it has been a few years ago when I
- 7:36started to go to college.
- 7:38>> It's a little bit hard to do things when
- 7:40you pretty much have tariffs on
- 7:42everything.
- 7:43>> Across the country, more than 53 million
- 7:45Americans have already voted. Some
- 7:47Democratic strongholds in Texas breaking
- 7:49records, exceeding the early vote in the
- 7:51last presidential election.
- 7:54A Democrat hasn't been elected to the
- 7:55Senate here in Kansas in nearly a
- 7:57century since the depths of the Great
- 7:58Depression. Here tonight, President
- 8:00Trump hopes to keep that Republican
- 8:01winning streak alive. Lindsay
- 8:03>> Stephen, thank you. Now to the hotly
- 8:05contested Senate race in Alaska. Two Dan
- 8:07Sullivanss are on the ballot. Today, a
- 8:09federal judge tossed the Justice
- 8:11Department's lawsuit seeking to block
- 8:13certification of the election results.
- 8:15Here's Trevor Alt.
- 8:17Tonight, a blow for President Trump's
- 8:19effort to challenge the results of
- 8:20Alaska's Senate race before a single
- 8:22vote has even been counted.
- 8:24>> Right in there.
- 8:25>> A federal judge today tossed the Justice
- 8:27Department's lawsuit, which sought to
- 8:29block the certification of the election
- 8:31if the incumbent Republican Senator Dan
- 8:33Sullivan loses.
- 8:34>> Mary Pel,
- 8:37>> Democrat Mary Pelah is under fire after
- 8:39the New York Times reported her campaign
- 8:41allegedly recruited another Dan Sullivan
- 8:43to join the ballot in an effort to
- 8:45confuse voters. Alaskans can read. We're
- 8:48good at reading.
- 8:49>> There's too much corruption, too much
- 8:50sneaking around these days.
- 8:52>> The judge dismissed the DOJ's case,
- 8:54saying since ballots are secret, it
- 8:56would be impossible to determine whether
- 8:58people who voted for the other Dan
- 8:59Sullivan were confused. Federal and
- 9:02state officials in Alaska say they've
- 9:03now opened criminal investigations into
- 9:06the alleged ballot stacking. Pelah's
- 9:08campaign says they didn't recruit other
- 9:10candidates, but Pelola says she doesn't
- 9:12know if it happened.
- 9:14>> I [music] have no idea. I honestly have
- 9:16no idea.
- 9:17>> Nice to see you.
- 9:18>> The incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan says
- 9:20she's lying, but even if he loses, he'll
- 9:23accept the results of the vote. Are you
- 9:24only going to accept the election
- 9:26results if you win?
- 9:30>> No, I'm going to accept the election
- 9:31results.
- 9:33>> And Lindsay, I got to show you this
- 9:34enormous line of people here to vote
- 9:35early in Anchorage. So, this is hundreds
- 9:37of people who are waiting in line. It
- 9:39stretches all the way down the mall
- 9:41here. We're talking about people who
- 9:42said they waited 2 hours to vote and
- 9:44they say it's been like this every
- 9:45single day of the week. And remember,
- 9:46Alaska accepts mail-in ballots up to two
- 9:48weeks after election day. So, if this
- 9:50state decides control of the Senate, it
- 9:52could be a very long wait. Lindsay,
- 9:54>> so many not waiting until Tuesday.
- 9:56Trevor, thank you. All eyes are on the
- 9:58Senate as some Democrats are suddenly
- 10:00competitive in several deeply red
- 10:02states, but taking control is a tougher
- 10:04challenge. ABC's senior political
- 10:06correspondent Rachel Scott joins us now.
- 10:08So Rachel, how is this race breaking
- 10:09down in terms of the House and the
- 10:11Senate?
- 10:12>> Yes, Lindsay. Well, Democrats have an
- 10:13easier path to take control in the
- 10:15House. They only have to flip three
- 10:17seats, but over in the Senate, a lot
- 10:18more challenging. They have to net four
- 10:20seats by the end of the night. Let's
- 10:22take a look at the battleground map. So,
- 10:24here we've already highlighted for you
- 10:26these tossup races. Alaska, Texas,
- 10:29Kansas, places where President Trump has
- 10:30spent a lot of time campaigning.
- 10:32Remember, they have to net four by the
- 10:34end of the night. That means they have
- 10:35to flip at least two states that
- 10:36President Trump won by double digits.
- 10:39That is going to be a challenge. We've
- 10:41taken a look at all of those states that
- 10:43President Trump won by double digits.
- 10:45The last time that they sent a Democrat
- 10:47to the Senate, it has been years,
- 10:49decades in some cases. Ohio, the last
- 10:51Democratic senator, 2018. Take a look at
- 10:55Kansas. The last time they sent a
- 10:56Democrat to the Senate, it's been nearly
- 10:59a century. Now, part of the reason why
- 11:01the political climate is so challenging
- 11:03for Republicans right now has a lot to
- 11:05do with the president's approval
- 11:06ratings. And if you just take a look at
- 11:08history, typically the incumbent
- 11:10president tends to lose seats. So, you
- 11:13see here that in 2006, Bush lost 30
- 11:16seats. Barack Obama 63 seats. One thing
- 11:20that you're going to notice here,
- 11:21President Trump's approval rating a
- 11:23record low 33%. This question mark only
- 11:26going to be answered on election night.
- 11:28and Rachel, you'll be right with us on
- 11:31election night. Stay with us for vote 26
- 11:33coverage on ABC and ABC News Live. Next
- 11:36tonight, Connecticut Senator Chris
- 11:38Murphy has suffered a stroke. The
- 11:4053-year-old Democrat said he felt
- 11:42numbness in his arm on Saturday while
- 11:44attending his son's hockey game. He's
- 11:45still in the hospital, but is expected
- 11:47to make a full recovery. Now to the
- 11:49heavy rain and dangerous flash flooding
- 11:51that is slamming the Southwest in
- 11:53Sedona, Arizona. Fastmoving water
- 11:55swallowed vehicles and homes. Mandatory
- 11:58evacuations are now underway across
- 12:00parts of the region. Here's ABC's
- 12:01Melissa Dawn. Millions in the Southwest
- 12:05tonight facing a new round of dangerous
- 12:07flash flooding. A cross-country storm
- 12:09now marching east. First responders in
- 12:13Arizona battling another system this
- 12:15weekend, leading to several water
- 12:17rescues amid a state of emergency. In
- 12:20Phoenix and Scottsdale rescuing
- 12:22motorists trapped in waist deep waters.
- 12:25Partial evacuations in Sedona today.
- 12:28This residential neighborhood partially
- 12:30turning into a river after nearby Oak
- 12:32Creek overflowed. Okay, I've never seen
- 12:35it like this before in my life.
- 12:36>> Highways there shut down. In Arizona and
- 12:40in Colorado, waterways bursting at the
- 12:42seams. The San Juan River in Colorado
- 12:45now forcing the town of Pagosa Springs
- 12:48to evacuate just a little more than a
- 12:50week after devastating flooding battered
- 12:52the area. State officials warning of a
- 12:55catastrophic flood event. And Lindsay,
- 12:58back in Arizona, Red Rock High School in
- 13:00Sedona is now being used as an
- 13:02evacuation zone amid the flooding.
- 13:04Lindsay,
- 13:05>> Melissa, thank you. And let's get right
- 13:07to ABC meteorologist Leslie Lopez for
- 13:09more on this dangerous cross-country
- 13:11storm. Where might this impact people
- 13:13who are heading out to vote?
- 13:14>> You know, the center of the nation could
- 13:15be impacted by election day, but that
- 13:16same cross-country system right now is
- 13:18impacting parts of the four corner
- 13:20states, bringing with it the chance for
- 13:22significant flooding. So, this continues
- 13:23today. However, by tomorrow, it'll be
- 13:25moving out towards the upper Midwest and
- 13:27then getting down into the Plains, also
- 13:29bringing with it severe thunderstorm
- 13:30threats from Texas all the way out
- 13:31towards Kansas City. There's a separate
- 13:33system in southern Florida that could
- 13:34bring in flash flooding. So, that'll be
- 13:36a concern. And then on election day,
- 13:38here we go. We're going to see some of
- 13:39that rain move into the center of the
- 13:41nation, also parts of the south, but it
- 13:43will be dry on both coasts. Lindsay,
- 13:45>> hopefully people can still do their
- 13:47Democratic duty. All right, Leslie,
- 13:49thank you. ICE agents are once again
- 13:51facing scrutiny over their tactics. This
- 13:53image appears to show a masked federal
- 13:55agent shoving a bystander into the
- 13:57bushes and pointing a gun inches from
- 13:59his face. This happened Friday during an
- 14:01operation in North Hollywood,
- 14:02California. Here's Alex Pchet.
- 14:05>> Tonight, a string of tense and
- 14:07disturbing confrontations between
- 14:08immigration agents and the public caught
- 14:10on camera just 2 days before Americans
- 14:13head to the polls. In North Hollywood,
- 14:15California, agents this weekend
- 14:16arresting a man they say was in the US
- 14:19illegally.
- 14:19>> The most painful cry I think I've ever
- 14:22heard in my life. But witnessing that,
- 14:23hearing that is so frightening and it's
- 14:26not normal.
- 14:27>> Cell phone video then shows an agent
- 14:29pointing a gun at a bystander who agents
- 14:32say picked up a can of pepper spray
- 14:33during that arrest. In Oregon, the ACLU
- 14:36filing suit late last week over this
- 14:39video that allegedly shows an ICE agent
- 14:41slashing the tires of two residents who
- 14:43had been recording agents. Meanwhile, in
- 14:45Houston, an ICE officer charged with
- 14:47aggravated assault is expected to turn
- 14:49himself in tomorrow. Investigators say
- 14:51Mario Alberto Morales hit an
- 14:53undocumented immigrant Miguel Parr
- 14:55Hernandez with his car as Par Hernandez
- 14:58ran from a traffic stop last month. The
- 15:00agent's attorney calls it an accident.
- 15:03Lindsay, the Harris County District
- 15:04Attorney says an ICE badge does not give
- 15:06you free reign to injure, kill, or
- 15:08violate constitutional rights. Par
- 15:11Hernandez is in federal custody at a
- 15:13rehab facility. Lindsay,
- 15:15>> Alex, thank you. Now to a claim movie
- 15:17director Michael Man accidentally
- 15:19shooting himself in the leg. It happened
- 15:21at a Los Angeles gun range over the
- 15:23weekend. Let's bring in Perry Russ. And
- 15:25Perry, what more are you learning
- 15:26tonight?
- 15:26>> Well, the legendary Hollywood director
- 15:28is recovering after accidentally
- 15:29shooting himself in the leg. Lindsay, a
- 15:31representative for Michael Man, says it
- 15:33happened on Saturday in Los Angeles at a
- 15:34gun range while he was trying to holster
- 15:37a gun. His representative calls it a
- 15:39superficial injury, saying he was
- 15:41treated and is being released from the
- 15:43hospital. The LAPD confirming the
- 15:45shooting was accidental and says he was
- 15:47taken to the hospital in stable
- 15:48condition. Sources tell ABC News it was
- 15:51a 45 caliber handgun. Man is 83 years
- 15:54old. He has directed some iconic movies
- 15:56including The Last of the Moheakans,
- 15:58Collateral and Heat. The shooting
- 16:00happening just months before filming
- 16:01starts for his latest movie, Heat 2.
- 16:03That is reportedly going to happen in
- 16:05January. Lindsay,
- 16:06>> glad to hear he's okay. All right,
- 16:08Perry, thank you. Now to those thrilling
- 16:10finishes at the New York City Marathon
- 16:12today. Sweden's Andreas Almgrren had
- 16:15never run a marathon before. He tore
- 16:18away from the field to come in at 2
- 16:20hours, 6 minutes, and 41 seconds. As for
- 16:22the women, Sheila Chep Kirwi won the
- 16:24event for the second time as Kenyan
- 16:26women continue to dominate the field.
- 16:28She clocked in at two hours 24 minutes
- 16:3036 seconds. And there was a dramatic
- 16:33sprint finish in the men's wheelchair
- 16:35division. Marcel Hoo captured his eighth
- 16:38title, edging out American Daniel
- 16:40Romanchuk by just a second. And there's
- 16:42still much more ahead on World News this
- 16:44Sunday. A spade of shootings this
- 16:46Halloween weekend. Hundreds [music]
- 16:48running from gunshots at a crowded
- 16:50gathering near the University of
- 16:51Delaware and the urgent recall of
- 16:53toddler snack bars [music] due to a
- 16:55potentially deadly choking hazard. The
- 16:57FDA says even the Heimlick maneuver
- 16:59[music] could fail to dislodge.
- 17:02Next tonight on Halloween, at least six
- 17:05people were wounded in a mass shooting
- 17:06near the University of Delaware.
- 17:08Security video shows people running
- 17:10after shots rang out in a crowded
- 17:12stretch of downtown Newark, Delaware.
- 17:14The injured were taken to hospitals.
- 17:16Main Street was closed for several hours
- 17:18afterward. There have been no arrests.
- 17:21Next, the voluntary recall of snack bars
- 17:23for toddlers due to a potentially deadly
- 17:25choking hazard. The company once upon a
- 17:27farm recalled its organic tractor wheels
- 17:30soft baked bars. The FDA says the bars
- 17:32can become so dry and sticky that even
- 17:34the Heimlick maneuver may fail to
- 17:36dislodge them. Parents are urged to
- 17:38throw the bars away. When we come back,
- 17:40Pope Leo's college [music] basketball
- 17:41dilemma. Villanova or Notre Dame?
- 17:46To the index at the Vatican. Pope Leo
- 17:48met with basketball players from two
- 17:50Catholic universities. is one of them
- 17:52his alma mater Villanova the other its
- 17:54arch rival Notre Dame. The two schools
- 17:57are facing off with season opening games
- 17:59in Rome. The first American pope
- 18:01formerly named Robert Post acknowledging
- 18:03his conflict as a Villanova graduate who
- 18:06grew up on the south side of Chicago
- 18:08where Notre Dame was king.
- 18:10>> So the Pope doesn't take sides.
- 18:15Post has another opinion but we won't do
- 18:17that now.
- 18:19Late today, the Notre Dame men beat
- 18:21Villanova 74-72.
- 18:24So close. When we come back, the
- 18:26Marathon Moms, what brought them
- 18:27together and what's driving them
- 18:29forward.
- 18:32Finally tonight, the Marathon Moms
- 18:34facing their fears and helping others
- 18:36one step at a time. For the past year,
- 18:39Sherry, Laura, and Sheena have been
- 18:41preparing to run these miles. But their
- 18:44friendship began on a road none of them
- 18:46expected to travel. Three mothers, each
- 18:48with a young child diagnosed with the
- 18:50same rare eye cancer.
- 18:52>> Having a child with cancer, can be an
- 18:55incredibly isolating and terrifying
- 18:58experience. When I met these two women,
- 19:00that changed.
- 19:01>> Together, they found a new goal. 26.2 m
- 19:05through New York City and a chance to
- 19:07help other families facing those same
- 19:09fears. When I found out that Sheena and
- 19:12Laura were both planning to run the
- 19:14marathon, it just felt like an
- 19:16incredible opportunity to stop surviving
- 19:19and move to the next phase to build back
- 19:22even stronger.
- 19:23>> Running to raise money for Memorial
- 19:25Sloan Ketering's Fred's team. The three
- 19:27mothers have raised more than $30,000.
- 19:30>> To give back a little piece of what
- 19:31they've given us is just the greatest
- 19:34gift. We're raising money that
- 19:36potentially could be funding another
- 19:37study that helps save somebody else's
- 19:39kid.
- 19:40>> Today, Laura and Sheena joined the
- 19:42thousands making their way through the
- 19:44five burrows. Sherry got sidelined by a
- 19:47stress fracture, but still showed up for
- 19:49her friends.
- 19:50>> I think there's true strength in in
- 19:52being a parent. You you truly realize
- 19:54what what you're willing to do for your
- 19:55child, taking it one step at a time.
- 19:57>> And today, those steps help carry Laura
- 20:00and Sheena across the finish line. All
- 20:02three hope the miles they've traveled
- 20:04together will help other families find
- 20:06their way forward.
- 20:08>> Big congrats to all the runners. Thanks
- 20:10so much for watching. David Mure right
- 20:12back here tomorrow night. I'm Lindseay
- 20:13Davis in New York. Have a great evening.
- 20:15Good night.

- 20:20watched newscast in America. And now
