  1. 0:00people have uh accused Ambassador rice
  2. 0:02in the administration of you know
  3. 0:04misleading Americans I can say trying to
  4. 0:07be in the middle of this and
  5. 0:09understanding what was going on nothing
  6. 0:11could be further from the
  7. 0:12truth was information developing was a
  8. 0:16situation fluid would we reach
  9. 0:18conclusions later that weren't reached
  10. 0:20initially and and I appreciate Madam
  11. 0:23Secretary do you disagree with me that a
  12. 0:25simple phone call to those evacuees to
  13. 0:27determine what happened would have would
  14. 0:29have ascertained immediately that there
  15. 0:31was no protest I mean that that was that
  16. 0:33was a piece of information that could
  17. 0:35have been easily easily obtained well
  18. 0:37but but within hours if not days Senator
  19. 0:39I you know when you're in these
  20. 0:42positions the last thing you want to do
  21. 0:44is interfere with any other process I
  22. 0:47realize I realize that's I realize
  23. 0:49that's good ex number two well no it's
  24. 0:51the fact number two I would recommend
  25. 0:54highly you read both what the ARB said
  26. 0:56about it and the classified ARB because
  27. 0:58even today there are questions being
  28. 1:01raised now we have no doubt they were
  29. 1:03terrorists they were militants they
  30. 1:04attacked us they killed our people but
  31. 1:07what was going on and why they were
  32. 1:08doing what they were
  33. 1:11doing again again we were misled that
  34. 1:13there was supposedly protest and then
  35. 1:15something sprang out of that and assault
  36. 1:17sprang out of that and that was easily
  37. 1:20ascertained that that was not the fact
  38. 1:22and the American people could have known
  39. 1:23that within days and they they didn't
  40. 1:25know that with all due respect the fact
  41. 1:27is we had four dead Americans was it
  42. 1:29because of they protest or was it
  43. 1:31because of guys out for a walk one night
  44. 1:32who decided they'd go kill some
  45. 1:34Americans what difference at this point
  46. 1:36does it make it is our job to figure out
  47. 1:40what happened and do everything we can
  48. 1:42to prevent it from ever happening again
  49. 1:43senator now honestly I will do my best
  50. 1:47to answer your questions about this but
  51. 1:49the the fact is that people were trying
  52. 1:52in real time to get to the best
  53. 1:55information the IC has a process I
  54. 1:58understand going with the other
  55. 1:59committees to explain how these talking
  56. 2:01points came out but you know to be clear
  57. 2:05it is from my perspective less important
  58. 2:10today looking backwards as to why these
  59. 2:13militants decided they did it than to
  60. 2:16find them and bring them to justice and
  61. 2:19then maybe we'll figure out what was
  62. 2:21going on in the metime
