  8. 0:29loved Henry's sick days.
  9. 0:33When Henry had a sore throat or a fever
  10. 0:35or a bad cough, he stayed home from
  11. 0:37school in bed. In the morning, Henry's
  12. 0:39mother brought him orange popsicles,
  13. 0:41comic books, and crackers.
  14. 0:45Mudge got the crackers. In the evening,
  15. 0:47Henry's father brought him grape
  16. 0:49popsicles, comic books, and crackers.
  17. 0:53Mudge got the crackers again. Mudge
  18. 0:56loved sick days. But even though he
  19. 0:58loved Henry's sick days, no one ever
  20. 1:01thought that Mudge would get sick.
  21. 1:05No one ever thought that Mudge could
  22. 1:06catch germs. But he could. And one day,
  23. 1:09he caught a lot of them. When Henry woke
  24. 1:12up and jumped out of bed, Mudge didn't
  25. 1:14move. He didn't get up. He didn't lick
  26. 1:16Henry's face.
  27. 1:19He didn't even shake Henry's hand. And
  28. 1:21he always shook Henry's hand in the
  29. 1:22morning. He just looked at Henry and
  30. 1:25wagged his tail a little.
  31. 1:28Henry and Henry's mother looked at Mudge
  32. 1:30and worried. "Something's wrong," said
  33. 1:32Henry. His mother nodded her head.
  34. 1:34"Mudge must be sick," said Henry. His
  35. 1:37mother nodded her head again. "Mudge,"
  36. 1:39said Henry. "Are you just wanting some
  37. 1:41crackers?" "But Mudge didn't want
  38. 1:43crackers. Mudge was sick, and he didn't
  39. 1:46even read comic books."
  40. 1:50the vet. Henry and Henry's mother tried
  41. 1:52to put Mudge in the car to go to the
  42. 1:54doctor, but Mudge was tired. He didn't
  43. 1:57want to go.
  44. 1:59"Hop in, Mudge," said Henry. Mudge sat
  45. 2:02down on Henry's foot. "Hop, Mudge,"
  46. 2:05Henry said again. Mudge yawned and
  47. 2:07drooled on Henry's hand.
  48. 2:11"Bath time, Mudge," Henry said, and
  49. 2:14Mudge hopped right in the car. They
  50. 2:16drove to the bed. Mudge knew the vet and
  51. 2:18he didn't want to see her. She made him
  52. 2:20nervous.
  53. 2:22When they walked into her waiting room,
  54. 2:24Mudge started to shiver and shed. He did
  55. 2:27this every time he went to the vet. He
  56. 2:29shivered and shed. He always left a
  57. 2:31bunch of dog hair on her floor.
  58. 2:35When it was his turn to see the vet,
  59. 2:37Henry and Henry's mother had to pull him
  60. 2:39like a horse into the room. "Hi, Mudge,"
  61. 2:41said the vet. Mudge shivered. "Bad day,
  62. 2:44Mudge," said the vet. mud shed.
  63. 2:49"He's losing all his hair," said Henry.
  64. 2:52"I know," said the vet. "I'd better
  65. 2:54hurry or he may be bald before you can
  66. 2:56get him home." Henry's mother laughed.
  67. 2:58But Henry couldn't laugh. He was too
  68. 3:00worried. He was too scared.
  69. 3:05The vet looked at Mudge's wet eyes. She
  70. 3:07listened to Mudge's shivering chest. She
  71. 3:09felt Mud's shedding stomach.
  72. 3:13Then she rubbed Mudge's big head. "I
  73. 3:16need to check a few things," she told
  74. 3:18Henry. "Can you wait outside?" Henry
  75. 3:20wanted to say no. Henry wanted to say,
  76. 3:23"No way." But Henry said, "All right."
  77. 3:29He went back to the waiting room with
  78. 3:31his mother. He sat and wondered if Mudge
  79. 3:33knew how to say, "Ah." He wondered if
  80. 3:35Mudge would be okay.
  81. 3:38"A big kiss. Your dog has a cold," the
  82. 3:42vet told Henry. "A cold?" said Henry. "I
  83. 3:45think so," said the vet.
  84. 3:48"He has a fever. His throat is red. He's
  85. 3:51very tired, and he keeps asking me for
  86. 3:53some comic books." "This time," Henry
  87. 3:56could laugh. "You have to let him rest,"
  88. 3:58said the vet. Henry nodded. "And give
  89. 4:01him his medicine." Henry nodded again.
  90. 4:06"And don't kiss him until he's better,"
  91. 4:08the vet said. Henry frowned. A he said
  92. 4:12when Henry and Henry's mother and Mudge
  93. 4:14got home, Henry fixed the sick bed for
  94. 4:16Mudge in the living room.
  95. 4:20It had Henry's old blanket in it and
  96. 4:22five of Henry's dirty socks and Henry's
  97. 4:24baseball mitt and Henry's pillow and a
  98. 4:26stuffed mousse. The next morning, Henry
  99. 4:28brought Mudge some ice cubes, a rubber
  100. 4:30hamburger, and crackers.
  101. 4:35Henry got the crackers. In the evening,
