  3. 0:03Casey, who's supposed to be my best friend,
  4. 0:06promised me that we'd go to the mall after school.
  5. 0:08Later, she texted me that she couldn't go.
  6. 0:10So I went with Nicole, my almost best friend instead,
  7. 0:12but then, at the mall, just next to the food court,
  8. 0:15you won't believe who I saw.
  9. 0:17[BUBBLE]
  10. 0:19That's right, Casey, and she was with Nathan, her new boyfriend.
  11. 0:24Uh, I hate her.
  12. 0:27I'm so lucky I have you.
  13. 0:28You're such a good listener.
  14. 0:33Now that you're in your teens, you
  15. 0:34may feel like you want to spend less
  16. 0:36time with your family and more time with your friends.
  17. 0:39During this time, some of your friendships
  18. 0:41may deepen, while others might fade away.
  19. 0:44And some of your friendships may even become romantic.
  20. 0:47Being in a healthy relationship, whether a friendship
  21. 0:50or a romantic relationship, can be fun,
  22. 0:52but it can also be complicated.
  23. 0:55So here are some rules to follow to make
  24. 0:56sure your friendships are healthy.
  25. 0:58In a healthy relationship, each person supports and encourages
  26. 1:01the other.
  27. 1:02Real friends want to know what you're thinking and feeling,
  28. 1:05and they'll be interested in what you have to say.
  29. 1:08It's OK to have disagreements, even in a healthy relationship,
  30. 1:12but it's important to do so respectfully
  31. 1:14and talk openly about it with each other.
  32. 1:17Sometimes, in a relationship, you'll need to compromise,
  33. 1:21but in a healthy relationship, the same person
  34. 1:23should not be the one who always compromises.
  35. 1:26It's important for both people to give and take.
  36. 1:30Finally, it's important to treat your relationships with care,
  37. 1:33and if a friend or a romantic partner
  38. 1:35makes you feel small, teases you, or physically
  39. 1:38or sexually pushes you into doing things
  40. 1:40that you don't really want to do,
  41. 1:42then this might not be a healthy relationship for you.
  42. 1:45Remember, a healthy relationship,
  43. 1:47whether just a friendship or a romantic relationship,
  44. 1:50should make you feel good about yourself and who you are.
  45. 1:53After all, you are pretty great.
