- 0:00when you lost [music] everything. What
- 0:01did that teach you that you think
- 0:03success doesn't teach you?
- 0:05>> What people don't realize is the
- 0:06pinnacle of life is not all that you can
- 0:09make it out to be. It's not that great.
- 0:10You have all the money, you have all the
- 0:12abundance and freedom, but you don't
- 0:13[music] spend your time on anything
- 0:15purposeful. And when you lose purpose is
- 0:17the moment you lose freedom.
- 0:19>> The moment I became rich and successful
- 0:21and I had stupid FU money was the moment
- 0:24I lost all [music] sense of freedom and
- 0:26purpose and I sold my soul. Freedom is
- 0:29what you believe you deserve and just
- 0:31going after it and trying and failing
- 0:34over and over and over again until you
- 0:35accomplish that thing. So, someone's
- 0:37watching this now. What is the one thing
- 0:39they can do right now that is going to
- 0:41move them more towards their freedom
- 0:43lifestyle?
- 0:46In today's episode, we sat down with
- 0:48Malcolm, who went from being homeless at
- 0:5017 to building a multi-million pound
- 0:53Airbnb business by the age of 24 to then
- 0:56lose everything.
- 0:57>> By the end of this podcast, you will
- 0:58discover how to get the mental
- 1:00resilience to overcome anything and the
- 1:03secrets of how a 24year-old built a
- 1:06multi-million dollar company. For us to
- 1:09continue speaking to inspiring guests
- 1:11like Malcolm, all we ask is that you
- 1:13subscribe to the channel.
- 1:14>> And before we begin, let's take a deep
- 1:17breath in [snorts]
- 1:19and a deep breath out
- 1:21and let's expand what's possible
- 1:23together.
- 1:26>> So Malcolm, before we even go into this
- 1:29podcast, why should someone who wants to
- 1:32create more freedom listen to this
- 1:34episode?
- 1:34>> Good question.
- 1:36Well, because the first thing is people
- 1:40think that freedom comes from the
- 1:41external reality, but it truly starts
- 1:45internally first, which is why you
- 1:48should watch because we're going to show
- 1:49you guys. We're going to talk about it.
- 1:51It's going to be a good discussion on
- 1:52why everything has to happen internally
- 1:55for you to then have it externally. Yes,
- 1:58look at us right now. We're talking
- 1:59about freedom. We're in a beautiful
- 2:01environment. Life is good. But it had to
- 2:04start internally within us first. We've
- 2:06had to go through the trials and errors
- 2:07to get to this point to then manifest
- 2:10and have this reality.
- 2:14>> That was a mic drop moment. [laughter]
- 2:17What a way to start. So my first
- 2:19question to you is to give us and the
- 2:22listeners who don't know you some
- 2:24context on where your journey to freedom
- 2:27actually began.
- 2:28>> My journey of freedom actually began
- 2:30when I was in high school.
- 2:33I was getting good grades and my
- 2:35teachers kept giving me a hard time. Uh,
- 2:38one specifically and I aimed to go high
- 2:42and so high. My parents always wanted me
- 2:44to become a successful surgeon, a doctor
- 2:46or a lawyer. It's a typical Asian
- 2:49stereotype. It's true.
- 2:51And so I did. I tried very hard. I
- 2:54showed up. I put in the effort. But it
- 2:56never seemed to stick. And I always
- 3:00realized that I looked around me and I
- 3:02saw my family friends, my friends
- 3:05parents who had all these luxur
- 3:07luxurious things and they had this great
- 3:08lifestyle. And I was like, well, how do
- 3:10they obtain all of these things? Not by
- 3:13being doctors. They own businesses. And
- 3:16growing up, I've always had a lot of
- 3:18struggle and battles with insecurity. I
- 3:22feel like I was always kind of left out.
- 3:23And I think a lot of entrepreneurs who
- 3:26are successful nowadays will be able to
- 3:28share the exact same feeling with me.
- 3:31And so what happened was after
- 3:35everything that I had gone through,
- 3:36everything that I've seen, I wanted a
- 3:38new perspective. I wanted to go down a
- 3:40different path. I wanted to see
- 3:41something that was different. I wanted
- 3:43to be different. And I had this urge in
- 3:45me because I was beat down constantly by
- 3:48friends and peers who had more than me.
- 3:50So, I feel like that really drove me to
- 3:54start seeking out the untraveled path,
- 3:58going down something and doing something
- 4:00different entirely. And that's how I led
- 4:02to eventually finding a way to become
- 4:04more free. But when you go down that
- 4:06freedom path, what happens is you chase
- 4:09the wrong things at first. Because when
- 4:12I started this this speech, I said the
- 4:15first thing for me was I saw that my
- 4:17friends, families, my parents' friends
- 4:19had luxurious things. So what happened?
- 4:22I chased all the materialistic things
- 4:25>> and I thought that was freedom and trust
- 4:27me I had those things and that did not
- 4:29buy freedom. That's why I said when I
- 4:32first started this conversation, it
- 4:33starts internally, then it goes out
- 4:35externally.
- 4:37What people don't realize is the
- 4:39pinnacle of life is not all that you can
- 4:42make it out to be. It's not that great.
- 4:44You actually can get caught up in the
- 4:47pinnacle of life in the wrong sense
- 4:49where you have all the money, you have
- 4:51all the abundance and freedom, but you
- 4:53don't spend your time on anything
- 4:55purposeful.
- 4:57And when you lose purpose is the moment
- 4:59you lose freedom.
- 5:00>> That's really powerful. And just want to
- 5:02touch on you mentioned as well about um
- 5:04your insecurity as well. When you first
- 5:07started out cuz I was the same. I used
- 5:09to really throughout school I I really
- 5:11struggled with confidence. That was like
- 5:13my so to actually think like reflecting
- 5:15now on the fact you know even doing
- 5:17things like this like interviewing doing
- 5:19podcasts putting myself out there online
- 5:21like I've really had to go against like
- 5:24what my insecurity was. So I think it
- 5:25was just by the way just a really
- 5:27powerful share that you mentioned that
- 5:29and then moving into your second part of
- 5:31mentioning that you were chasing the
- 5:33materialistic um things in life and
- 5:36obviously you went on to build an 8
- 5:38figureure business in your 20ies which
- 5:41is just insane like that is so rare and
- 5:44I've met a lot of people and you lost
- 5:46everything. So I guess my question to
- 5:49you is like what was what was your rock
- 5:52bottom moment? Was it that? Was it
- 5:55something else? Um, and how did that
- 5:58actually impact you and shift you into
- 6:01your next level into your next part of
- 6:03your purpose? Now,
- 6:04>> I would say that when I lost everything
- 6:06was the moment I gained everything back
- 6:09because the moment I became rich and
- 6:10successful and I had stupid FU money was
- 6:15the moment I lost all sense of freedom
- 6:17and purpose and I sold my soul.
- 6:20>> Wow.
- 6:21So what I would say is if you asked me
- 6:25when it happened, I would have answered
- 6:27to you when I lost everything. When
- 6:29everything went sideways, I went into
- 6:30this rut. But the reality for me was
- 6:36losing everything and I said it helped
- 6:39me gain everything back was the
- 6:42realization that internally I needed to
- 6:46build myself back up again. I needed
- 6:49that pull back and I needed the
- 6:51uncomfortable feeling again because I
- 6:53had gotten too comfortable having the
- 6:55high life
- 6:57>> and that was when I truly found myself
- 7:00and built myself up again.
- 7:01>> It's powerful. I think a lot of people
- 7:03can relate to what you're saying as well
- 7:05about what they think success will look
- 7:08and feel like and then actually when you
- 7:10get to that point it can look and feel
- 7:12very different. And like from our
- 7:13experience as well, I think we looked at
- 7:15this nomad life a few years ago and
- 7:17thought that's it. That's success. When
- 7:19we get that, everything will be amazing.
- 7:22And actually, no matter what stage of
- 7:24life you're in, there's always highs and
- 7:26lows, right? But it's all about the
- 7:28lesson. So I wanted to ask you when you
- 7:30obviously hit rock bottom, when you lost
- 7:32everything, what did that teach you that
- 7:35you think success doesn't teach you? It
- 7:38taught me I feel like you already have
- 7:40everything you need to know and you
- 7:41already know a lot of the stuff that you
- 7:43need to know and sometimes you need to
- 7:45be humbled to realize that that's the
- 7:48path that you should have gone down. So
- 7:50what I had to learn was that I should be
- 7:53more appreciative of the things that I
- 7:55do have around me. It's it's it's
- 7:57obvious you lose everything you
- 7:58appreciate things more. Right.
- 8:00>> We experienced that.
- 8:01>> Yes.
- 8:02>> Yeah. But I didn't lose everything.
- 8:05That's the way I put it. I I think that
- 8:07money is one thing and it can come back.
- 8:10You can rebuild an empire, but it was
- 8:12how I built that empire with the people
- 8:14that I built that empire with, which was
- 8:18the reason why I felt like I lost my
- 8:20soul. Because it doesn't matter how big
- 8:22it gets. If you're doing something with
- 8:24the wrong people, first and foremost,
- 8:26you're never going to be satisfied in
- 8:28life. You're always going to feel like
- 8:30there's something missing, like there's
- 8:31a hole. So, I had to go back to my roots
- 8:36and I've been in rock bottom many times.
- 8:38And I think a lot of entrepreneurs will
- 8:39realize they can go through business and
- 8:41fail over and over and over again. Your
- 8:42bank account will go to zero and that's
- 8:44not talked about. It will go to zero
- 8:46multiple times and that happens to
- 8:47everybody who gets into business. That's
- 8:50just the reality of it. Some months you
- 8:52sit there and you're realizing, oh
- 8:53shoot, I'm like on the verge of
- 8:54bankruptcy for like months in a row back
- 8:56and back to back to back to back.
- 8:58eventually, you know, your company takes
- 9:00off and then people change and when
- 9:02people change, you're not aligned
- 9:04anymore, right? So, being reliant on
- 9:07other people, being insecure, having a
- 9:10lot of issues growing up, I feel like
- 9:14this has been the perfect opportunity
- 9:16for me to build my character, become
- 9:19more confident with myself, love myself,
- 9:21like you said, put yourself out there,
- 9:23be on podcasts like this, and just do
- 9:25the uncom. This is not natural by any
- 9:27means,
- 9:28>> right? Nobody says, "Oh, let me sit down
- 9:29and set up a camera and talk with two
- 9:32different people and ask questions."
- 9:34It's it's not normal for most people,
- 9:36right?
- 9:37>> So, you need to be thrown back to be
- 9:40thrown into a different course. And
- 9:42sometimes it's all meant to be for you
- 9:43to realize that there's a new
- 9:45perspective for you to learn in order
- 9:47for you to unlock
- 9:49new sectors of your character in order
- 9:52when you go into your next business to
- 9:54unlock different departments, different
- 9:56knowledge, different skills to get to
- 9:58the next level that you're truly meant
- 10:00to be at. So sometimes people look at
- 10:02these setbacks as a bad thing and they
- 10:04give up and they quit. But you can't
- 10:06kill somebody that never gives up and
- 10:07never quits. So if you guys keep going,
- 10:11then when you fail, you realize that
- 10:13that's just a setback for you to learn a
- 10:15lesson. And it's actually 95% of the
- 10:18time a blessing in disguise. The 5% is
- 10:20when you sit there and you beat yourself
- 10:21up and you don't do anything about it at
- 10:23all.
- 10:23>> So you asked I think I think the biggest
- 10:27thing is like people don't realize when
- 10:29they're going through it because it
- 10:30seems so emotionally powerful, but you
- 10:34asked for this life. When I went into
- 10:37this, I knowingly asked to be different,
- 10:39to go down the hard path, to have
- 10:42struggles, and then when I have those
- 10:44struggles and I go down that hard path,
- 10:46how can I sit there and complain? I can
- 10:48only sit there and appreciate that that
- 10:49happened to me and learn the lesson. And
- 10:51that's the only way to live. Otherwise,
- 10:54you don't have freedom. And if you don't
- 10:55do something you love, you have no
- 10:56purpose. That's the journey. And you
- 10:58have to learn how to embrace and enjoy
- 11:00the journey, right? Because I might not
- 11:02have it all right now, but I know I
- 11:04will.
- 11:05But having it all for me now has
- 11:07completely been redefined.
- 11:09>> It's not about how much money is in my
- 11:10bank account. It's about what I've done
- 11:11to serve this world and have I brought
- 11:13the passions, the things that I want to
- 11:15bring, the creative juices into my
- 11:17workflow to make this world a better
- 11:19place like I always wanted it to be
- 11:21initially. When you get the Lamos, when
- 11:23you get the cars, when you get the the
- 11:24nice yachts, when you travel all the
- 11:26time, you become completely blind and
- 11:28then it's just chasing the next high.
- 11:31>> Is that freedom?
- 11:33>> That's powerful. So for you then, what's
- 11:35what's been the the biggest breakthrough
- 11:38that you've had cuz you've been on a
- 11:40crazy journey and actually it'd be quite
- 11:42cool to to rewind a bit of your journey
- 11:45of you mentioned starting out at school
- 11:47to now where you are. I think it'd be
- 11:48quite cool to to go through that as a
- 11:50bit of a a journey for you and
- 11:52throughout that journey like what has
- 11:54been your biggest breakthrough that
- 11:55someone listening to this can learn from
- 11:58that now? because we obviously before
- 11:59this podcast we were mentioning about
- 12:01mentorship and I think there's a there's
- 12:04a there's a fine line of having both. I
- 12:06think having mentors is a massive
- 12:08benefit you know cuz it's like you you
- 12:10essentially get to gain knowledge of the
- 12:12mistakes that they've made a lot of the
- 12:14time. However, there is also something
- 12:17really like some of my biggest
- 12:18breakthroughs have come from my own
- 12:20mistakes rather than somebody else's. So
- 12:23I guess on your journey of
- 12:24entrepreneurship like what's been your
- 12:26biggest breakthrough moment that for
- 12:28someone listening can learn from that
- 12:31moment that will potentially stop them
- 12:34from going down that same path that you
- 12:36have? I would say I wouldn't stop
- 12:39somebody from going down the same path
- 12:40that I have because the path that I've
- 12:42went down, even through all the ups and
- 12:45downs, the breakthroughs, the downfalls,
- 12:49the restarts, it has all been a part of
- 12:53who I became today. My biggest
- 12:55breakthrough that I've had after going
- 12:59completely broke, making it up again
- 13:02financially, and then building myself up
- 13:04again over and over is being okay with
- 13:08myself. like having that confidence that
- 13:11I never had before. Finally feeling like
- 13:14there's no resistance for me to have
- 13:16that confidence or me having to force it
- 13:18into my daily life and stop pretending
- 13:23who I actually am and let that come out.
- 13:25The the biggest breakthrough is taking
- 13:26the mask off finally because there was I
- 13:29thought I was being myself but I was
- 13:31never being myself.
- 13:33And that's where I got to the point
- 13:36where everything that I earned because I
- 13:39earned it so fast, I lost it all because
- 13:41I skipped steps. The biggest
- 13:43breakthrough is you don't skip steps.
- 13:45That's what I would say. You do not skip
- 13:47steps. If you're building a business, if
- 13:49you jump to a million dollars, you don't
- 13:51skip steps and start living a
- 13:53million-dollar life and pretending like
- 13:55you run a million-dollar business.
- 13:56You're still in the development stages
- 13:58of doing X, Y, and Z. Sure, when you
- 14:01take multiple shots, you may get lucky.
- 14:03You might win the lottery, but the thing
- 14:05is, even if you win that lottery, you're
- 14:07not prepared to handle that kind of
- 14:10business, that level, that wealth. So,
- 14:13for me, going back to my story, when I
- 14:16was in high school, like I said, I had
- 14:18one teacher who was giving me a very
- 14:20hard time. And I realized at that
- 14:22moment, I was like, why would I let
- 14:25somebody dictate my future? How can you
- 14:28let someone mark you and dictate your
- 14:30future? Sure, somebody else wants to go
- 14:33through the traditional path. I don't
- 14:34blame you because what we do is very
- 14:36hard. It's it it will kill you every
- 14:39single day. You go through mental pains
- 14:41like you could never think of. But the
- 14:44reward in the end is what we're chasing.
- 14:46And you know what? Some of us don't even
- 14:48know if we'll even make it there. We
- 14:49don't. We don't know if we'll truly have
- 14:51that. But that's the risk that we take
- 14:53every single day as being entrepreneurs.
- 14:55So after all of the bad marks, the
- 14:59teacher trying to fail me and me
- 15:01realizing that I don't want to be judged
- 15:04or I mean I don't want someone to
- 15:05dictate my future, an authorative
- 15:07figure. I decided to say, "Hey, listen.
- 15:09I'm going to go against the grain. I'm
- 15:11going to drop out of high school." And I
- 15:13left. And then when that happened, I
- 15:15went home, had a huge falling out with
- 15:17my father. I got kicked out of the
- 15:20house. I left and I was homeless. And I
- 15:22was like really confident before it
- 15:24happened. Really cocky cuz like my ego
- 15:26will boost my confidence but it's not
- 15:28real confidence. I got on the street and
- 15:31I was like, "Oh what do I do now?"
- 15:35And that's when it really hit me like I
- 15:37have to go out there and I have to make
- 15:39things happen. And I think going back to
- 15:43the story of my business that I recently
- 15:45had and losing everything there is I got
- 15:48too comfortable with having that
- 15:49security that I thought I had. and too
- 15:52comfortable with being controlled by
- 15:54other people and letting them dictate
- 15:56exactly how I did everything. And that
- 15:59was that feeling I started getting again
- 16:00when everything started going sour was
- 16:03the feeling that I was a puppet on
- 16:05somebody else's leash and I didn't truly
- 16:07have freedom anymore. Even if it looked
- 16:09like I had freedom. I mean, we were
- 16:11traveling. We were spending money
- 16:13everywhere. We didn't care. We we bought
- 16:15dinners for family. We just wanted to
- 16:17give. We wanted to keep going and keep
- 16:19giving and keep spending. We didn't
- 16:21think about anything that we bought. We
- 16:22were on the high life. But I didn't I
- 16:25also didn't realize I sold my soul to
- 16:26have that life. And you hear this in the
- 16:28music industry all the time, right?
- 16:30>> Yeah. So record labels, people will sign
- 16:31with them and then they control
- 16:32everything they say and do and how they
- 16:34act and they feel like they're not free
- 16:36and then they go down a huge uh
- 16:37obsessive path. They go through mental
- 16:40um mental issues. They have drug
- 16:42addictions and then they go broke,
- 16:45right? But that's a hard lesson that you
- 16:47have to swallow. So, I dropped out of
- 16:50high school, got kicked out of my house,
- 16:51was homeless, and then I crashed with my
- 16:53buddy. We looked around for
- 16:55opportunities non-stop. It was
- 16:57relentless. We found an opportunity and
- 16:59got into the Airbnb business through a
- 17:02guy who wanted to give us an opportunity
- 17:03to help us. He gave us a house that he
- 17:05had. It was like a house we had to put
- 17:07throw, it was like a pig that we had to
- 17:09throw lipstick on to make it nice.
- 17:11>> And so, we renovated it. We had no
- 17:14experience. The guy told us to throw it
- 17:15on Airbnb. and I had no idea what Airbnb
- 17:18was. Long story short, skipped two years
- 17:21later, we had 30 units, uh, 30 houses on
- 17:24Airbnb. I was about 18 years old at this
- 17:27time. So, I started when I was 17
- 17:29and built a $1.7 million revenue stream
- 17:34per year with that portfolio and then
- 17:37that guy stole it from me. So, I've had
- 17:39many of these occurrences. I'm just
- 17:41wondering like why does this keep
- 17:42happening to me? Because the first time
- 17:44I got screwed over by someone who had me
- 17:47on a leash. The second time I got
- 17:49screwed over by somebody who had me on a
- 17:50leash. And you know what I realized? The
- 17:54real estate or the investing world or
- 17:56the business world is cruel and it will
- 17:58not spare you. So if you let somebody
- 18:01control you and you don't know how to
- 18:02say no because you're insecure,
- 18:05that's where you're going to lose all
- 18:06the control and everything you you've
- 18:08wanted. So the power of saying no is
- 18:12what I want to talk about because nobody
- 18:15says no enough especially me and that is
- 18:17why I got myself in those circumstances
- 18:19to begin with. So I built another
- 18:22business again a partner screwed me over
- 18:25and I recently built this business and
- 18:27yeah each time the number kept getting
- 18:29bigger. You see the number kept getting
- 18:32bigger but then my
- 18:35need for comfort kept getting larger.
- 18:39Why? I make a million dollars, I'll
- 18:42spend a million dollars. I make $2
- 18:43million, I'll spend $2 million. I make
- 18:45more and more and more. I keep spending
- 18:47more. I spend 150% of what I make and I
- 18:49go in debt. Why is that? Because I, no
- 18:52matter how much money I made was always
- 18:55controlled by somebody because I let
- 18:57them I let them have that power over me.
- 19:00And I was never truly free. and or in
- 19:03order for me to actually learn the
- 19:04lesson because I'm at this point you can
- 19:06call me dumb because I didn't learn my
- 19:08lesson the first time. I made I made the
- 19:10same mistake multiple times. But at this
- 19:12point I'm sitting there realizing to
- 19:14myself, wow, it's because I don't have
- 19:16control. I don't feel confident in
- 19:17myself and I don't believe in myself
- 19:18enough. So I let other people tell me
- 19:21how it is, tell me how to be. And then
- 19:24they control me to the point where I'm
- 19:25unhappy with myself where I need so much
- 19:29comfort that I spend everything I make
- 19:31just to try to fill that hole which all
- 19:34starts internally
- 19:37never externally because nothing you do
- 19:41externally is going to fix what you have
- 19:43as holes inside yourself as a character
- 19:44internally.
- 19:46That's that's what I would say.
- 19:49>> That's so powerful and I think a lot of
- 19:50people can relate to that. the whole
- 19:52like cycle thing you're like like you
- 19:53said was I dumb like why did I have to
- 19:55keep learning the lesson it's like no
- 19:57actually it's amazing when you can
- 19:59realize why it happened again because
- 20:01then you can move past it right we've
- 20:04experienced cycles
- 20:05>> everyone experiences cycles
- 20:07>> everyone does but I love what you say
- 20:09when you're like it is all internal I
- 20:12can relate to that like when I was
- 20:13younger I used to perform so everybody
- 20:16thought wow you're so confident you know
- 20:18you can get up on stage and perform but
- 20:20actually internally was so insecure and
- 20:22so unconfident. So I think doing this
- 20:25inner work on yourself and really like
- 20:28backing yourself is yeah such a key
- 20:30ingredient and it's why you've now you
- 20:32know gone on to build all this success
- 20:34for yourself because you you can see now
- 20:36that you definitely back yourself and
- 20:38>> yeah it's amazing to see but I'm just
- 20:41wondering when you went through those
- 20:43moments of losing what mentally did you
- 20:47have to like let go of to be able to
- 20:49then pick yourself back up because so
- 20:51many people you know when something goes
- 20:53wrong.
- 20:55>> Yeah. So, what was that? What did you
- 20:57let go of?
- 20:57>> I would say ask yourself the question,
- 21:02what happens on the other side? What
- 21:04happens if you give up? Ask yourself,
- 21:06no, genuinely, right? Cuz even though
- 21:08I'm on a path now, I'm building success
- 21:11now, I've gone through a lot and I've
- 21:14realized a lot. And at this point, it's
- 21:17like you got to sit there and reflect.
- 21:19That's the biggest thing that a lot of
- 21:21people just don't do. Ask yourself, what
- 21:23is on the other side? Ask yourself, what
- 21:26happens if I give up and I quit right
- 21:28now? What does my reality look like?
- 21:31And you're going to sit there and think,
- 21:34"Oh, well, I can go get a 9 to-ive job.
- 21:37I can go work all day." But then you sit
- 21:40there and realize, well, my entire life
- 21:42has been building a business. I've been
- 21:44an entrepreneur my entire life. It's
- 21:45like going down an completely different
- 21:47path. Why would I do that? Why am I
- 21:50giving up? Why do I feel like I'm not
- 21:52good enough? Right? Because we're all
- 21:54trying to even after, like I said, even
- 21:56after building again and again and
- 21:58again, I still don't feel like I'm good
- 22:00enough. I still don't feel like I'm I
- 22:02I'm always chasing a better me. I'm
- 22:04always chasing a more refined version.
- 22:06There's so many areas of our lives that
- 22:08we can improve. And honestly, with all
- 22:10the social media um content going out
- 22:13nowadays, you feel like you can never
- 22:15satisfy the world. You feel like you're
- 22:17never good enough because one thing will
- 22:18tell you to do one thing. The other will
- 22:20tell you to do the exact opposite thing.
- 22:22Right? So the answers don't lie
- 22:25externally ever. The answers lie
- 22:28internally.
- 22:30Nothing is right or wrong. You know what
- 22:33is right for you. And in order for you
- 22:35to realize what is right for you, you
- 22:37have to ask yourself that question. So
- 22:38I'm sitting there contemplating. Do I go
- 22:39back to working at McDonald's, building
- 22:42myself back up again? And then I sit
- 22:44there and I think, "Okay, well, what
- 22:46happens after that?" Nothing. I move
- 22:48back in with my parents. I work. I maybe
- 22:50get a job. And I'm going back to letting
- 22:54somebody dictate my future. And I'm not
- 22:56building myself. I lose my confidence. I
- 22:59probably get a bunch of pimples. I
- 23:00probably get out of shape, get fat, and
- 23:03then I can't take care of bills still
- 23:05and I still run into the same problems.
- 23:07So, why would I do that? It's as simple
- 23:10as that. That's for me. But when you're
- 23:13quitting, ask yourself why you're
- 23:15quitting. Is it the people that you're
- 23:17doing it with? Is it the thing that
- 23:20you're doing? Or is it you? Is it
- 23:23something within yourself? And then when
- 23:26you realize that something in yourself,
- 23:29you ask yourself, what do I need to work
- 23:31on? Rather than quitting, what is this
- 23:34telling me to work on? How can I
- 23:36improve? and how can I get better so
- 23:39that when I do it again I succeed.
- 23:42>> You guys play video games ever?
- 23:45>> Okay. All right. Growing up, I play a
- 23:47lot of video games and a lot of people
- 23:48in this world play video games, right?
- 23:51>> So when you die in a video game,
- 23:55>> do you just shut everything off and quit
- 23:57or do you just hop back in and play? No
- 23:59emotions.
- 24:00>> So true.
- 24:01>> Right. You might get mad. You might
- 24:02throw your your mouse at the screen or
- 24:04your controller at the screen, right? or
- 24:06might scream or yell, but do you think
- 24:08about it that much before you restart
- 24:09and play again? Why do you have more
- 24:13motivation to restart and play that
- 24:15video game again after you died and got
- 24:17killed and lost the game compared to
- 24:19your own life? Why would you do that in
- 24:21a video game, but you won't do that in
- 24:22real real life? Why won't you do that
- 24:24for yourself? That's really powerful.
- 24:25And I just want to like touch on as
- 24:27well. I can tell number one that a big
- 24:29focus point of this and for anyone
- 24:30listening is just to take full
- 24:32responsibility. And I think you do that
- 24:34by I guess blaming internal rather than
- 24:37blaming external, right? You know, I
- 24:39love that.
- 24:40>> Yeah. Because as soon as you're blaming
- 24:41external, which a lot of people do. I've
- 24:43done it before, especially when I was in
- 24:45sales. Blame the leads. Oh, the economy
- 24:48is bad, the company, the ads. There's
- 24:50always something, but actually like
- 24:52start taking responsibility and blaming
- 24:54yourself. And I really liked what you
- 24:56said then as well with the whole video.
- 24:57I've never heard that analogy actually
- 24:59of obviously I treat life as a game and
- 25:02I want to level up in all areas but to
- 25:04hear like it's so true you do just keep
- 25:05coming back and coming back and coming
- 25:07back and coming back and you do get
- 25:09stronger yeah you get you get stronger
- 25:11you get better you get it's addicted so
- 25:13I guess that kind of goes on to what you
- 25:15mentioned then as well about the fact of
- 25:18how can you give up how can you go back
- 25:20once you've once you've started
- 25:21entrepreneurship like it's hard to I
- 25:24think anyway for me personally it'd be
- 25:26quite hard to go back and I know some
- 25:28people do but I guess the why and
- 25:30there's nothing wrong with going back
- 25:32either if that's true to you but it's
- 25:34like why are you going back and I think
- 25:35that's a really good question if for
- 25:37anyone that's in a period now listening
- 25:39to this that's struggling in an area of
- 25:41freedom it's like if you have that urge
- 25:43to go back because this happens um do
- 25:45you know like network marketing so
- 25:47network marketing is probably one of the
- 25:48biggest ind was one of the biggest
- 25:50industries in in in the world for online
- 25:52businesses
- 25:54so many people cuz one of our one of my
- 25:56best mates who has a podcast as well. Um
- 25:58he is like one of the top earners in
- 26:00network marketing in his company that he
- 26:01works for. The amount of people that
- 26:03have he always says it they have the
- 26:05same blueprint of as me. It's the same
- 26:07company. It's the same product. So it's
- 26:10like what how is how come is so many
- 26:12people start but they give up so soon.
- 26:16And he actually it really hit me cuz he
- 26:17only earned like 50 quid in his first
- 26:20like I think it was like 3 months of
- 26:22being there. Most people would quit if
- 26:25they only earned 50 pound in three
- 26:26months, but he stayed. And it's a bit
- 26:28like what you said, you kind of got to
- 26:30choose your hard because
- 26:31entrepreneurship, even though online,
- 26:34you know, seeing the the jungle, the
- 26:36beaches and all that, it can be painted
- 26:38out as easy. And obviously when people
- 26:40are selling programs, then they want to
- 26:43paint it out as easy. People paint it
- 26:44out easy to make people then invest. But
- 26:47it's not easy. But it's also not easy
- 26:49staying the same either.
- 26:50>> No. What did Tony We just watched Tony
- 26:52Robbins 3-day summit and he said if
- 26:55you're not growing you're dying. You
- 26:57know every if you think about it even
- 26:58nature if it doesn't grow it dies and
- 27:00we're the same. And he also said and I
- 27:03think this will really help people if
- 27:04they have hit rock bottom and don't know
- 27:06how to move forward. He said get out
- 27:08your head and get in your heart. And
- 27:10that's something we've been trying
- 27:11recently because your head your head's
- 27:13always going to tell you to not do
- 27:14things right and it's going to find
- 27:16every reason to keep you safe. So I
- 27:18think getting in your heart is going to
- 27:20give you that drive.
- 27:21>> I love that. So for you then Malcolm, it
- 27:24seems like you've gone on a on a a crazy
- 27:26journey. Um I guess I guess call it a
- 27:30bit of a spiritual journey on your
- 27:31entrepreneurship because of going
- 27:32through losing everything to getting
- 27:34everything to losing everything. You
- 27:36mentioned you went down the
- 27:37materialistic route when you obviously
- 27:40made a lot of money and I know when you
- 27:41were telling me the type of money you
- 27:43were spending in like going out to
- 27:44different places in in America and all
- 27:46this type of stuff and uh [snorts] the
- 27:48party lifestyle is what you were living.
- 27:50So I guess my question to you is how how
- 27:53has freedom changed now? Cuz you thought
- 27:56freedom was the material thing. So how
- 27:58how has it changed now? I've realized
- 28:01number one that freedom is not having a
- 28:05bunch of things that I own and having to
- 28:07worry about constantly on a daily basis
- 28:09that floods my mind especially when I'm
- 28:11trying to perform at the highest level
- 28:13as an entrepreneur. So money is a
- 28:15resource and there's nothing wrong with
- 28:16being materialistic. I'm not here to
- 28:18bash or shame on being materialistic. I
- 28:20think everybody needs to go through it
- 28:21to experience life. We're here to
- 28:23experience. We're here to travel through
- 28:25life and go on a journey and do all the
- 28:27fun things. Do everything. experience
- 28:29love, sadness, everything. So, nothing
- 28:33wrong with that. I just got addicted to
- 28:35it. That's what I'm trying to say to you
- 28:36guys. And it's a resource. Just like if
- 28:38you're building a house, you need nails,
- 28:41you use that as a resource. But people
- 28:43put money on a pedestal so much. What
- 28:45I've realized is I don't need as much
- 28:47money to live a freedom lifestyle. I can
- 28:51live very abundantly and eat very good
- 28:55if I put myself in the right environment
- 28:57and I structure everything well in my
- 28:59life and I actually have more freedom in
- 29:01my mind and more peace at heart. So,
- 29:04going back to what you said about going
- 29:09back to like choosing your heart and
- 29:12being too much in your head when you
- 29:14play video games, like you don't you
- 29:16don't sit there in your head. You just
- 29:18go again, right? You just continuously
- 29:20repeat the process and then you get
- 29:22better and better and better. But think
- 29:24about the best people in that
- 29:25environment. And I use that analogy of
- 29:27video games because most people watching
- 29:29this can relate. M
- 29:30>> most people watching this who haven't
- 29:32started a business may not be able to
- 29:33relate to any of the business talks that
- 29:35we're having to that degree because you
- 29:38may just be in school you may be
- 29:39watching this tuning in from you know
- 29:41you work a 9 to5 you you feel like life
- 29:43is pretty comfortable but you're seeking
- 29:44something new you want to go into a
- 29:46different venture you want to find your
- 29:48freedom you want to find new
- 29:50opportunities so yeah that's what I
- 29:53would say like with the video game it's
- 29:56like the best players that you look at
- 29:58in the entire world Think about how many
- 30:00times they had to lose. Think how many
- 30:02times they had to die. And yeah, if you
- 30:04choose the heart of having a reality
- 30:07where everything is designed for you,
- 30:11meaning you go down the path, you follow
- 30:15orders and you do what you're told. You
- 30:18live life that way and you're okay with
- 30:20it, then I can't say anything
- 30:22respectfully. We can't be judgmental. We
- 30:26can only help here. For the people
- 30:28listening and watching this, we can only
- 30:30be as influential as we can possibly be
- 30:32to help the people who really want to
- 30:34break free. But it's not going to be
- 30:36easy. Nothing nothing worth having in
- 30:38life is easy.
- 30:40>> That is very true. And it's all about
- 30:42picking your heart, isn't it? It's hard
- 30:44to do this, but it's also hard to not
- 30:46feel like you're evolving and you're
- 30:47growing. And I think we've all
- 30:48experienced that. That's a lot harder in
- 30:51my opinion. Um, so let's say if you
- 30:54could go back to that version of you
- 30:56that just got into, you know, the Airbnb
- 30:58space before you had that first, you
- 31:00know, rugpool moment where everything
- 31:03left. What would you say to that person
- 31:06knowing everything that you know now?
- 31:08>> Good. Keep going. I hope you fail.
- 31:11[laughter]
- 31:11>> I hope you fail a lot.
- 31:12>> Yeah.
- 31:13>> Because the more you fail now, it's
- 31:15going to directly contribute to how much
- 31:17success you build in the future. Because
- 31:19right now, you should be in school. You
- 31:21should be going you should just be going
- 31:23into university and paying who knows how
- 31:26much money for a degree that you might
- 31:28not even use and you might eventually
- 31:31cuz you already want to break free. But
- 31:32if you don't do that right now, you're
- 31:34going to eventually have to deal with
- 31:35the consequences later. You're going to
- 31:37suffer from it and it's going to feel
- 31:38like you have no purpose and no freedom
- 31:40and you're still going to chase that
- 31:41because that's who you are, right? So
- 31:44fail. Fail a bunch of times. Lose it
- 31:46all. go absolutely crazy,
- 31:50right? And make a bunch of money, spend
- 31:54all of it. I mean, you told me earlier
- 31:56that your friend who went network
- 32:00marketing, he made 50 quid in his first
- 32:02three months, right? I don't know how
- 32:04much that converts to dollars, but maybe
- 32:07>> okay, like $100 in three months, right?
- 32:10So,
- 32:11I will tell you the side of
- 32:14entrepreneurship that people don't tell
- 32:16you about is when you start a business,
- 32:17you might go hundreds of thousands of
- 32:19dollars in debt
- 32:22>> at the beginning just to start
- 32:24everything up. But that's just a dollar
- 32:26figure because people place too much
- 32:28emphasis on the dollar figure they spend
- 32:30in their business that's for them and
- 32:32for their family and for the freedom and
- 32:34for them to build purpose in life. But
- 32:38they'll happily go and spend $200,000 in
- 32:41university education
- 32:43to then secure maybe secure unless AI
- 32:47takes over everything in the future. We
- 32:49should talk about that. Maybe secure a
- 32:52good job. And then once they have a
- 32:54career they have to work their way up
- 32:56and then when they're 60 years old they
- 32:59can finally take those vacations and
- 33:00feel free. And by that point when
- 33:03they're on the beach they're in a
- 33:04wheelchair.
- 33:05>> Yeah. If they're healthy enough. if
- 33:06they're even healthy enough to make that
- 33:08happen. So that's the way I always saw
- 33:11it. Again, we need people who work hard
- 33:14in this world. We this world would not
- 33:16exist without that. And I'm sure that's
- 33:18just a really extreme reality that I'm
- 33:20pointing out. But yeah, I like that. And
- 33:23I was going to ask as well like if you
- 33:25could, you know, give advice for someone
- 33:27to create a freedom lifestyle, but I'd
- 33:28say you've just you've just said it
- 33:30there um of the fact of actually go out
- 33:32and fail. And I think that's another
- 33:34thing to touch on is perfectionism. And
- 33:37I think it can be it holds so many
- 33:39people back, you know, because it's like
- 33:41this podcast right now, we haven't got
- 33:44videographers here. We've just done it
- 33:45ourselves, you know, like but if we
- 33:48stopped ourselves just cuz there's not a
- 33:50video. I know you've got a videographer
- 33:51flying out soon to Mexico, which is
- 33:54exciting, but we've just done it. We You
- 33:56don't always need that, but it's a
- 33:58benefit. And and I think that's where a
- 34:00lot of people go wrong is they plan too
- 34:03much. They plan for a year. They plan
- 34:06the logo. They plan this. They plan
- 34:08that. And then and yeah, I I like that
- 34:10message is actually go and fail more.
- 34:13And it's like a lot of like the best
- 34:14athletes in the world and the best like
- 34:16basketball players and stuff like that.
- 34:17They're the ones that have failed the
- 34:19most. They're the ones that have tried
- 34:20the most. So I really like that message.
- 34:22>> You'll learn more from failing than just
- 34:24doing a course or it's a school of life.
- 34:26We
- 34:26>> school of life. Yeah. School of life.
- 34:29I wasn't going to ask anything to do
- 34:31with AI. However, you mentioned you
- 34:32mentioned AI. So, let's let's let's
- 34:34let's touch on it.
- 34:36>> So, in terms of AI for you in terms of
- 34:38freedom because I think there's a
- 34:40there's the the polarity of it, right?
- 34:42It can in my this is from my model of
- 34:44the world. It can create freedom, but
- 34:46then also there's that there's the the
- 34:48the dark side of it potentially. So, I'm
- 34:50curious to you of like in your business,
- 34:53how are you using AI? Um, and what do
- 34:55you think AI is going to do when it
- 34:58comes to helping people or not helping
- 35:01people live a freedom lifestyle?
- 35:03>> You see, there's a polarity to
- 35:05everything. Like, when there's good,
- 35:06there's going to be bad. So, I try to
- 35:09steer away from AI as much as humanly
- 35:12possible and just build really good
- 35:14systems that are not relying on it right
- 35:16now. Of course, AI is going to be a
- 35:17factor for new things coming up. And
- 35:19it's an opportunity for people who have
- 35:21the vision and the entrepreneurial
- 35:23skills to go out there and serve
- 35:25themselves well with the tools that they
- 35:27have. No matter if AI is in the picture
- 35:29or not, they're using utilizing other
- 35:31tools to benefit themselves. But the
- 35:35question is, how does this affect the
- 35:36working class? And when it does affect
- 35:38the working class, how does that come
- 35:39back and bite everybody who was an
- 35:41entrepreneur in the butt? Because you
- 35:43rely on these people to fill your
- 35:45business. And even if you didn't, what
- 35:47happens to those people? I think about
- 35:49people. I got into entrepreneurship
- 35:51because I want to help people, right?
- 35:54So, I love what AI can do for the world,
- 35:59but I also am thinking about what it's
- 36:02going to do to the other side of the
- 36:03world, the people who are not utilizing
- 36:05it to build a profitable business or,
- 36:08you know, things of that nature. They're
- 36:09just using it for their day-to-day life.
- 36:11And the reason why I got into the Airbnb
- 36:13business and built an opportunity for
- 36:16other people to get into the space
- 36:18without having to spend an arm and a
- 36:20leg, but also have someone who really
- 36:22cares about them, is because I wanted to
- 36:24help people first and foremost. And I
- 36:26see a future where universal basic
- 36:29income is going to become a reality and
- 36:31everybody's going to be paid to live.
- 36:34And when everybody's paid to live,
- 36:35there's no need for them to stay at
- 36:37their hometown anymore and buy a house
- 36:39and stay locked in one area because the
- 36:41true freedom, which we all talk about
- 36:42now, has been shifting. If you see in
- 36:44the social media space right now, the
- 36:46true freedom um and the description of
- 36:48it is not having a bunch of luxury
- 36:50things anymore. It's about having time,
- 36:53freedom, being able to go where you
- 36:55want, whenever you want, not having to
- 36:56bring a million things with you and
- 36:58worry about a lot of stuff and stress,
- 37:00right? That's true freedom. and do what
- 37:02you want when you want, but you don't
- 37:04need to buy things because then I I I
- 37:07see online people buy supercars. It's
- 37:09like, okay, where do you park all of
- 37:10that, right? Where do you like who has
- 37:11to maintain all of that? Who has to take
- 37:13care of your house? Who has to clean
- 37:14this house, that house, this house? So,
- 37:17when universal basic income comes into
- 37:19play, what I see happening is now
- 37:21everybody is traveling. So, I wanted to
- 37:24get into the travel industry to be the
- 37:25person to have the opportunity in front
- 37:28of people who want to get into it, but
- 37:30also to open doors for people who want
- 37:32to travel in the future. I feel like
- 37:34with this new generation coming up being
- 37:36so revolved around technology and AI,
- 37:40they're not going to want to work a job.
- 37:42There's so much social media um what
- 37:46would we call it? Propaganda nowadays
- 37:48and everybody wants to be an
- 37:50entrepreneur. Nobody wants to work a job
- 37:51anymore. They've seen enough content,
- 37:53they've scrolled through, they're going
- 37:55to land on it eventually, right? So,
- 37:56with this new generation, I wanted to
- 37:58position myself to be able to serve
- 38:02them, but also give them an opportunity
- 38:04to grow a portfolio in the space if
- 38:06that's what they desire. So I see a
- 38:08world where everybody stops working,
- 38:11everybody gets paid and then extra pay
- 38:15is going to be based upon your social
- 38:17media clout, how much attention you can
- 38:20draw, right? But the downside is that
- 38:24there's going to be a lot more financial
- 38:26stress, I believe, because with a set
- 38:29income and no chance of getting an
- 38:32increase, everybody's kind of living in
- 38:34a communist kind of state where they all
- 38:38have the same amount of money to spend
- 38:39and if they don't make social media
- 38:41content, they're going to be left behind
- 38:43and they're going to have issues
- 38:45financially. So, there's a good and a
- 38:48bad. I can't per se
- 38:50think of how it could possibly plan out
- 38:53because you know this world every time
- 38:55it changes it seems to shock everybody
- 38:57like AI just came out of nowhere. You
- 38:59woke up one morning, you're like, "What
- 39:01is this chatbt?"
- 39:02>> All right. And you never expected that.
- 39:06So that's what I see. I see a future
- 39:08where nobody works,
- 39:10>> but they try to build a name for
- 39:12themselves online.
- 39:15That's my take on AI.
- 39:17>> But yeah, you you guys got to just try.
- 39:19>> I feel like the the biggest thing when
- 39:21you're watching podcasts like this, ask
- 39:23yourself the questions, the reflection
- 39:25questions. Why am I even watching this
- 39:26podcast to begin with? What value am I
- 39:28seeking? Like, do I need to try more? Do
- 39:31I need to work on myself? Do I have all
- 39:32the answers? Am I just ignoring the
- 39:35issues I have and just being comfortable
- 39:37with not serving myself at the highest
- 39:39level? And that's the question, like you
- 39:42go into your head way too much sometimes
- 39:44as well, and you just don't take the
- 39:46action. You'll play the video game,
- 39:48you'll take so much action. [laughter]
- 39:50>> You know, you're not afraid to die
- 39:51multiple times. You know, you play FIFA,
- 39:53you lose to your friends a bunch of
- 39:54times, but in your life, I mean, how
- 39:56much action have you taken and how many
- 39:58times have you failed and how many times
- 39:59have you lost because you fail forward?
- 40:01>> It's been a powerful conversation. We've
- 40:03covered a lot.
- 40:04>> Obviously, you've really touched on what
- 40:07freedom looks like for you now. So, I've
- 40:09actually thought of a different question
- 40:11to end this if you're happy for me to
- 40:12flow with it.
- 40:13>> So, a bonus question. I've been thinking
- 40:15>> we want more.
- 40:16>> We want more. We want more. What more
- 40:18value can you give them? And I think
- 40:19like you just said then, watching a
- 40:21podcast is one thing, but taking the
- 40:23action is another. So someone's watching
- 40:26this now, they're inspired by your
- 40:27story. What is the one thing they can do
- 40:30right now before they get in their head
- 40:33that is going to move them more towards
- 40:35their freedom lifestyle?
- 40:37>> Clean your room and go to the gym.
- 40:39>> Yeah,
- 40:40>> it's that simple.
- 40:42Clean your room, make yourself a meal,
- 40:45go to the gym, and just be with yourself
- 40:48and your thoughts. I cannot give you the
- 40:51answer for what you should do cuz that
- 40:53is completely up to them. But if you
- 40:57want more and you keep sitting there
- 40:59watching these podcasts, you can watch a
- 41:02million videos online, but if you take
- 41:04zero action and you don't do anything at
- 41:06all, obviously the result is zero
- 41:09outcome. You may feel smarter. You might
- 41:12feel awakened, but there's nothing
- 41:14that's going to come out of that, right?
- 41:16So, you got to go out there and put
- 41:18yourself in the uncomfortable position
- 41:19and do the thing and then just see what
- 41:22happens and fail forward. You don't have
- 41:24to start a business. You might have a
- 41:26passion you want to pursue. You might
- 41:27have something you've been wanting to
- 41:28do, but you've been holding off. Just go
- 41:30do that thing. Go live your life. That's
- 41:32freedom. Freedom doesn't mean owning a
- 41:34business, guys.
- 41:35>> It doesn't.
- 41:36>> Freedom. You can be the least free
- 41:38person in the entire world and own a
- 41:40business. Freedom does not mean
- 41:42celebrity status. You can be completely
- 41:44tied to the record labels, following
- 41:46every single design plan for you, even
- 41:48more trapped than working a 9 to5 and
- 41:51have all the money in the world, or so
- 41:53it seems, but have absolutely no freedom
- 41:55in your life at all. And you just sell
- 41:57your soul entirely.
- 42:00Freedom is what you believe you deserve
- 42:04and just going after it and trying and
- 42:06failing over and over and over again
- 42:08until you accomplish that thing. Because
- 42:10once you get to the destination, you're
- 42:11going to realize, uh, I'm not excited
- 42:14anymore. What's the next thing? I want
- 42:15purpose. I want to keep going. I want to
- 42:18start a family. I want to build a
- 42:19beautiful life for my family. There's so
- 42:22many things to explore in this life.
- 42:25>> Don't get overwhelmed, though.
- 42:26>> I mean, you're an extremely wise man for
- 42:30your age. It's impressive. And why are
- 42:31you so wise? Because you've failed a
- 42:33lot. You've tried a lot. You started at
- 42:36a very young age. You started
- 42:37>> I will say, go on. I'm just an idiot
- 42:40that failed a bunch of times. I am not
- 42:42smart.
- 42:43>> Okay. Well, I I think my perspection is
- 42:46you're you're very intelligent and
- 42:48you've got a lot of amazing wisdom and
- 42:49that's why we're extremely grateful that

- 44:01>> Yeah. or go to the gym first and you'll
- 44:03be in an even better energy for the Q&A.
- 44:07>> Thank you. Good night.
- 44:08>> Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. A
- 44:09wiggo.
