11. 0:30>> Does it feel in some respects like
12. 0:32coming home when you come back to
13. 0:33Australia as you shot so much of the
14. 0:35trilogy?
15. 0:35>> I mean I've I've spent about a year here
16. 0:38all all tallied.
17. 0:39Uh you know, we did both of our our Star
18. 0:41Wars films over at Fox Studios in in
19. 0:43Sydney and it's become a bit of a home
20. 0:45away from home and so I was very excited
21. 0:46to come on the show cuz I've I've
22. 0:48watched it several times. So here we
23. 0:49are. It's it's it's good stuff.
24. 0:51>> So wonderful to have you here.
25. 0:53>> [cheering]
26. 0:54>> Especially if you watch the show and are
27. 0:56still willing to come on. Brilliant.

29. 0:59>> Now tell me what did you do when you
30. 1:00first got back to Sydney? Did you do
31. 1:02some boogie boarding or
32. 1:03>> I didn't boogie board. I I took a little
33. 1:05wander around Bondi which was the old
34. 1:07stomping grounds for myself. Yeah, yeah,
35. 1:08yeah. So I uh
36. 1:10I saw all my old friends, you know,
37. 1:12wandered into a couple old shops that I
38. 1:14used to frequent and it was just nice
39. 1:15being back. Uh you know, it's it's it's
40. 1:17such a great place. You guys really have
41. 1:19it made here. It's good.
42. 1:20>> Now there there was a big
43. 1:22uh
44. 1:22preview I suppose of the of the new
45. 1:25trailer for Episode III. Uh it's very
46. 1:28exciting. The first time you saw it,
47. 1:29what was your reaction?
48. 1:31>> I flipped. I mean I I think it's pretty
49. 1:33cool. It's uh
50. 1:34action packed. It's uh you know, it's uh
51. 1:37it's everything that I think people have
52. 1:38been been waiting for. So it's it's a
53. 1:40good one.
54. 1:40>> And what can you tell us
55. 1:43>> Very little.
56. 1:43>> about what to expect from Revenge of the
57. 1:46Sith or as they say it in New Zealand,
58. 1:48Revenge of the Soth.
59. 1:50>> [laughter]
60. 1:51>> It's uh
61. 1:53>> Revenge of the Sith.
62. 1:54>> [laughter]
63. 1:55>> It's uh it's it's going to be a much
64. 1:57darker film. It's
65. 1:59uh it's the story of Anakin becoming
66. 2:01Darth. It's it's, you know, a republic
67. 2:03becoming an empire. All very epic stuff
68. 2:06and uh all all driven by just
69. 2:08action-packed sequences. You know, from
70. 2:10what I've seen, it's it's really going
71. 2:11to be a phenomenal film.
72. 2:13>> Well, as I said, the trailer that was a
73. 2:14preview of it uh last night in Sydney
74. 2:16and uh it will be in cinemas on
75. 2:19Thursday, but we actually have a very
76. 2:21exciting sneak peek here now.
77. 2:24It is episode three, Star Wars Revenge
78. 2:27of the Sith. Have a quick look.

96. 3:33I'M RISKING DISAPPOINTING ANYONE,
97. 3:35including myself. Is that actually you
98. 3:36in the suit? Because James Earl Jones
99. 3:38did the voice for the original trilogy.
100. 3:40There was another actor, David Prowse,
101. 3:42actually in the suit. Did you get to don
102. 3:44the black helmet?
103. 3:45>> I did. I did. They were they were kind
104. 3:47enough to
105. 3:49to allow me that privilege, you know. I
106. 3:51From the time I got offered the part of
107. 3:53Anakin, I I was always sort of hinting
108. 3:55at the fact that I would love to get to,
109. 3:57you know, be in the suit if if that was
110. 3:59ever going to be a possibility. And, uh,
111. 4:01and George was nice enough to to allow
112. 4:03me to do so. So, it was it was, you
113. 4:05know,
114. 4:06a thrill. I can't really describe the
115. 4:08sensation of being enclosed in Darth
116. 4:10Vader. It was, uh,
117. 4:12was orgasmic, to say the least.
118. 4:14>> And as I said, a lot of Star Wars nerds
119. 4:16would probably know how you feel.
120. 4:18Were you Were you a huge fan of of the
121. 4:20film beforehand?
122. 4:21>> Before the original?
123. 4:22>> I mean, I I wasn't really born when the
124. 4:24originals came out. But,
125. 4:27uh, but still a fan in the womb. I,
126. 4:30I, uh, no, I I have an older brother who
127. 4:31was a huge fan, so I was very familiar
128. 4:33with the films and we had all the toys
129. 4:35around the house growing up. But, uh,
130. 4:37but no, it was it was, you know, just
131. 4:39you can't really dream that big to to to
132. 4:42think that, you know, one day I could
133. 4:43get to play Darth Vader in in George
134. 4:46Lucas's Star Wars. So, it's it's been
135. 4:48phenomenal.
136. 4:48>> Now, you you're a tall guy and I don't
137. 4:50you say that because everybody's taller
138. 4:51than me.
139. 4:53But, uh, I believe that you because you
140. 4:54still had to have a a bit of height for
141. 4:56when you were inside the Darth suit. Is
142. 4:58that correct?
143. 4:58>> I did. I did. I mean, the whole thing
144. 5:00was, you know, a little awkward. You got
145. 5:02about 40 lb on each shoulder and they
146. 5:05had to put lifts in the shoes to
147. 5:06accommodate for the height difference.
148. 5:08So, it was like walking around in high
149. 5:09heel shoes in this, you know, dark suit
150. 5:11that you can barely see anything out of.
151. 5:13And so, I was very paranoid that I was
152. 5:14going to fall over or trip or something
153. 5:16and wreck the whole thing and but, uh,
154. 5:18but I managed to get through it all
155. 5:20right. So, it was it was okay.
156. 5:21>> And what was your audition process like?
157. 5:23Like, first time you walk in and meet
158. 5:24someone like George Lucas, was it a a
159. 5:26bit nerve-racking?
160. 5:27>> It was very nerve-racking. It was it was
161. 5:29it was a daunting process, you know. I,
162. 5:32uh,
163. 5:33first time I met him, I flew out to the
164. 5:34Skywalker Ranch,
165. 5:36uh, out in San Francisco and that into
166. 5:37itself was just, you know, a privilege
167. 5:39and an honor and I was content with
168. 5:41that. Um,
169. 5:43but, you know, I I I met with him a
170. 5:44couple of times thereafter and then had
171. 5:46to audition with Natalie and we read the
172. 5:48lines and uh I guess there was some
173. 5:50chemistry there or something that that
174. 5:52George noticed and uh and they offered
175. 5:55me the part.
176. 5:55>> I believe you were worried at first that
177. 5:56you didn't get the role.
178. 5:58>> Well, I just as I said before, you can't
179. 6:00really ever think that anything like
180. 6:02that
181. 6:02>> he gave you Did he I I hear he gave you
182. 6:05something at the end of it that had you
183. 6:06thinking you didn't get the role.
184. 6:07>> Well, yeah, he gave me a mug and a hat
185. 6:09and I thought that was like, you know,
186. 6:11my consolation prize for coming.
187. 6:14>> [laughter]
188. 6:14>> And uh and and I was happy with that. I
189. 6:16was like, I got a mug and a hat from,
190. 6:18you know, George Lucas. But uh
191. 6:20but no, I got a phone call a few days
192. 6:21afterwards saying that uh they wanted me
193. 6:24to do it. So, and and and here we are
194. 6:26now.
195. 6:26>> It's very exciting. As I said, it opens
196. 6:28around the world on May 19th. It's Star
197. 6:30Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith.
