  1. 0:03there's a jessie smellette
  2. 0:04uh video too oh my god and prince andrew
  3. 0:07okay let's
  4. 0:081886 29 year old nurse sherry rasmussen
  5. 0:11was found by her husband
  6. 0:13lying dead on the living room floor her
  7. 0:15face was wait is there [ __ ] tos in
  8. 0:17this chat i know i asked but
  9. 0:27severely beaten and disfigured to the
  10. 0:29point that she was unrecognizable and
  11. 0:31the injuries were consistent with being
  12. 0:33hit with a muzzle and butt plate of a
  13. 0:35gun
  14. 0:35she also had three gunshot wounds to the
  15. 0:37chest that were disclosed as the
  16. 0:39official cause of death with a medical
  17. 0:41examiner asserting that any one of the
  18. 0:43three bullets could have killed her
  19. 0:44perhaps the most disturbing discovery
  20. 0:46during the autopsy was that most of
  21. 0:48sherry's injuries were inflicted upon
  22. 0:50her
  23. 0:50after she was killed which was concluded
  24. 0:52due to the lack of hemorrhaging and
  25. 0:54inflammation of the injuries
  26. 0:56this included most of the victim's
  27. 0:57facial injuries and even a bite mark on
  28. 0:59her left forearm
  29. 1:01even after sherry had taken her last
  30. 1:02breath the assailant was still
  31. 1:04inflicting an inconceivable amount of
  32. 1:06damage to her body
  33. 1:07she was buried in a closed casket seven
  34. 1:09days later the homicide detectives
  35. 1:11assigned
  36. 1:12to the case immediately associated
  37. 1:14sherry's murder with multiple break-ins
  38. 1:16that had occurred that same night on the
  39. 1:18same street
  40. 1:18another woman had even been assaulted
  41. 1:20and was able to give a description of
  42. 1:22two assailants
  43. 1:23and this description became the sole
  44. 1:25focus of the investigation into sherry's
  45. 1:27murder the prime suspects were now
  46. 1:29two middle-aged latino males of medium
  47. 1:31height and build
  48. 1:32they were never found and the case went
  49. 1:34unsolved for 23 years
  50. 1:36by 2009 crime in los angeles had
  51. 1:39declined enough oh
  52. 1:40this is the golden gate murderer or
  53. 1:43something right
  54. 1:43isn't this
  55. 1:47or no it's is it not oh no
  56. 1:50no no the golden state murderer no this
  57. 1:53is not sorry sorry
  58. 1:54sorry sorry sherry rasmussen was okay
  59. 1:58sorry i don't know earlier at all the
  60. 2:00detectives began looking into cold cases
  61. 2:02to increase their clearance rates which
  62. 2:04is when the rasmussen files
  63. 2:06educate yourself shut up [ __ ] i'm
  64. 2:08literally educating myself by watching
  65. 2:10this video
  66. 2:11suck my dick um the the uh
  67. 2:15the golden bridge murder is also a cop
  68. 2:17resurfaced
  69. 2:18it stood out from the rest as new
  70. 2:20methods analysis
  71. 2:21discovered that the dna found at the
  72. 2:23crime scene pointed to a single female
  73. 2:25suspect the two previous male suspects
  74. 2:27were then invalidated along with the
  75. 2:29original theory of a burglary gone wrong
  76. 2:32the investigation into sherry
  77. 2:33rasmussen's murder was then reopened and
  78. 2:36the newly appointed criminal
  79. 2:37investigators started from scratch
  80. 2:39it was soon discovered that a statement
  81. 2:41given by sherry's father of whom he
  82. 2:43thought to be the prime suspect was
  83. 2:44quickly brushed to one side as the
  84. 2:46person in question was a serving lapd
  85. 2:49cop from the exact department who were
  86. 2:50investigating the case
  87. 2:52the person in question was a woman by
  88. 2:54the name of stephanie lazarus she was a
  89. 2:5625 year old police officer at the time
  90. 2:58who had been with the force for two
  91. 3:00years
  92. 3:01she had dated sherry's husband john
  93. 3:03rutten in an on and off relationship
  94. 3:05throughout college and for a short time
  95. 3:07after
  96. 3:07it was even discovered that jon had
  97. 3:09slept with lazarus after he became
  98. 3:11engaged and the two even dated for a
  99. 3:13while after sherry's murder she was now
  100. 3:15a 25-year veteran of the police force
  101. 3:18and had worked her way up to a senior
  102. 3:19detective of the commercial crimes
  103. 3:21division
  104. 3:21she was essentially in charge of all
  105. 3:23art-related investigations in the city
  106. 3:25of los angeles the investigators
  107. 3:27well i'm sorry i'm an ist but like i see
  108. 3:31that i'm like that's the murderer dude
  109. 3:33okay like that's that's the crate these
  110. 3:37are the craziest eyes i've ever seen
  111. 3:39dude
  112. 3:43i'd just be like that's it that's the
  113. 3:45guy take him away
  114. 3:47there is no reason to be there is no
  115. 3:50reason to
  116. 3:51conduct a further uh any sort of
  117. 3:53investigation no no ad i already ran the
  118. 3:55ad before
  119. 3:57went with a gut feeling and decided to
  120. 3:59make lazarus the prime suspect
  121. 4:01with the collection of her dna being the
  122. 4:03very first task attaining it through a
  123. 4:05warrant would have let lazarus know she
  124. 4:07was under investigation
  125. 4:08so it had to be discreetly collected
  126. 4:10instead within 24 hours of becoming the
  127. 4:12prime suspect a coffee cup she discarded
  128. 4:15while off duty was received by police
  129. 4:17a dna sample was then taken and it came
  130. 4:20up as an exact match to the dna found on
  131. 4:22sherry rasmussen's bite mark
  132. 4:27there's a stigma around police
  133. 4:28interrogation tactics being secretive
  134. 4:30and how knowing this information can
  135. 4:32somehow help the guilty in deceiving
  136. 4:34their way to freedom
  137. 4:35yet these tactics have been public
  138. 4:36knowledge since their inception in the
  139. 4:381940s and the following interrogation is
  140. 4:40a legitimate testimony into how watching
  141. 4:43an interrogation is a world apart from
  142. 4:45being subjected to one
  143. 4:46you can know every technique in the book
  144. 4:48and each specific strategy and subtle
  145. 4:50scenario that goes along with it but
  146. 4:52ultimately you have no idea how you're
  147. 4:54going to react to a specific
  148. 4:56situation until you're actually in it
  149. 4:58with that being said
  150. 4:59knowing these tactics can still give an
  151. 5:01individual some form of advantage with
  152. 5:03regards to awareness the investigators
  153. 5:05knew that their initial confrontation
  154. 5:07with lazarus could in no way resemble a
  155. 5:09traditional interrogation nor be
  156. 5:11officially classified as one and there
  157. 5:13were two reasons for this
  158. 5:14the first was that i can't believe how
  159. 5:16much your channel influences youtube
  160. 5:18views and subscribers for channels you
  161. 5:19watch
  162. 5:23what the [ __ ] no shot no i started
  163. 5:26watching
  164. 5:30no dude they were getting like they were
  165. 5:33already getting
  166. 5:33they were already popping off
  167. 5:38no everyone's been watching this and
  168. 5:39also it's not just me
  169. 5:41uh i started watching it and then and
  170. 5:43then mischief started watching it too
  171. 5:45like so many other people started
  172. 5:46watching it
  173. 5:52i think xqc probably uh watched it
  174. 5:54before me miz was first that's
  175. 5:55literally not even a [ __ ] true
  176. 5:58statement
  177. 6:00was it is it actually a true statement
  178. 6:11ever i know other reaction rumors are
  179. 6:12have definitely watched it's great
  180. 6:18content
  181. 6:22yeah the day before you
  182. 6:29there's no shot he was like people kept
  183. 6:31coming in here to be like
  184. 6:32mischief is literally watching the same
  185. 6:34video that you're watching right now
  186. 6:37want to come over i can't come over i'm
  187. 6:39in [ __ ] los angeles
  188. 6:43you should come over here though i mean
  189. 6:46literally none of it matters because we
  190. 6:48are watching youtube videos that someone
  191. 6:50else
  192. 6:52made so you know
  193. 6:55stephanie would be wise to the fact that
  194. 6:56her best option would be to request
  195. 6:58legal counsel right away and end the
  196. 7:00procedure immediately the second was
  197. 7:02that stephanie was not about to be read
  198. 7:04her miranda rights before being asked
  199. 7:06questions related to the investigation
  200. 7:08a defense team could easily make
  201. 7:10anything she divulges inadmissible in
  202. 7:12court yet this was classed as a simple
  203. 7:14discussion between two parties
  204. 7:16and the footage that was captured on a
  205. 7:17hidden camera was able to be submitted
  206. 7:19as evidence under
  207. 7:20surveillance footage rather than
  208. 7:22interrogation footage
  209. 7:23the detectives created a ruse inviting
  210. 7:25stephanie to come in and advise them on
  211. 7:27a case involving stolen art
  212. 7:29knowing they were dealing with one of
  213. 7:31their own they rehearsed and prepared
  214. 7:32for the interview more than anything
  215. 7:34they had done before
  216. 7:35their plan of attack was to keep the
  217. 7:36conversation wait what did he say
  218. 7:42it was me austin you always be austin i
  219. 7:43have more viewers in you right now
  220. 7:44hassan hello from the top of just
  221. 7:46chatting
  222. 7:47says the dude who runs 10 minutes of ads
  223. 7:49every five seconds bro you're stealing
  224. 7:50my content i don't do politics get out
  225. 7:52of my lane
  226. 7:57what the [ __ ]
  227. 8:02he said he messaged you on stream he he
  228. 8:04dm'd me on twitch
  229. 8:06part of twitch on twitter conversation
  230. 8:09as casual as possible for as long as
  231. 8:11possible and
  232. 8:12carefully waited for the key moments to
  233. 8:13initiate the confrontation
  234. 8:15if you know my partner hey great hi guys
  235. 8:19how's it going
  236. 8:21uh well
  237. 8:24i don't want to talk about this in the
  238. 8:26squadron because i don't know who people
  239. 8:27are listening
  240. 8:28and if we go to my site everybody's
  241. 8:30always wondering what everybody else is
  242. 8:31no problem the first thing the
  243. 8:33detectives do is set up a compatible
  244. 8:35tone with a suspect
  245. 8:36she has just stepped foot inside an
  246. 8:38interrogation room and the detectives
  247. 8:40negate the negative implications of such
  248. 8:42an environment through a friendly
  249. 8:43disposition
  250. 8:44consultative meetings such as seeking
  251. 8:46advice over an art theft can take place
  252. 8:48anywhere and the last place detectives
  253. 8:50would choose to spend more time in would
  254. 8:52be an interrogation room the reason they
  255. 8:54give the suspect for meeting in such an
  256. 8:56unusual location
  257. 8:57is to not spread rumors or innuendo yet
  258. 9:00the real reason is that all firearms
  259. 9:02have to be checked in before entering
  260. 9:04the area and they needed the suspect to
  261. 9:06give up her gun without alerting
  262. 9:07suspicion
  263. 9:08but uh like we're talking about being
  264. 9:10business but we've been assigned a case
  265. 9:12that we've been looking at
  266. 9:13okay it's a new case and reviewing the
  267. 9:15case there's some notes
  268. 9:17to see as far as your name being
  269. 9:19mentioned oh okay do you know john rutin
  270. 9:22try and imagine for one moment that you
  271. 9:24savagely murdered a love rival in a
  272. 9:26jealous rage
  273. 9:27over two decades had passed since the
  274. 9:29act then all of a sudden you're brought
  275. 9:31to an interrogation room
  276. 9:32very strange very suspicious that like
  277. 9:35uh
  278. 9:35cop murderers like cops who are murderer
  279. 9:38is like not on the job
  280. 9:40but uh cops or murderers off the job
  281. 9:43uh never you know it takes a while for
  282. 9:46them to get caught
  283. 9:47so interesting i don't know what it is i
  284. 9:49don't
  285. 9:51kind of odd right i mean maybe she just
  286. 9:54forgot to put the badge on that day
  287. 9:56i guess so
  288. 10:00and sat directly opposite two senior
  289. 10:02investigators bring up the name of the
  290. 10:04man you committed first degree homicide
  291. 10:06for
  292. 10:07john john rotten
  293. 10:12the investigators already knew how to
  294. 10:14say john rutten's name correctly the
  295. 10:16mispronunciation was a simple strategy
  296. 10:18to see how the suspect would react
  297. 10:20setting aside the element of the murder
  298. 10:22john rutten was the second longest
  299. 10:24relationship in stephanie's life
  300. 10:25and a psychiatrist later stated that
  301. 10:27this pause was four times as long as it
  302. 10:29should have been
  303. 10:30she was already being deceptive by
  304. 10:32acting as if she hadn't thought about
  305. 10:33that name for so long
  306. 10:35giving reason for her prolonged
  307. 10:36reflection when in reality
  308. 10:38the name john rutten was engraved in her
  309. 10:40memory and even when slightly
  310. 10:41mispronounced it would have most likely
  311. 10:43taken milliseconds for her to realize
  312. 10:45exactly who the detectives were
  313. 10:46referring to
  314. 10:48oh yeah i went to school with him you
  315. 10:49did yeah how long did you know him
  316. 10:51gosh i went to school and um let's see
  317. 10:54went to ucla 1978 i started and
  318. 10:59you know met him at school at the dorms
  319. 11:04um she says she met him in the dorms
  320. 11:07yet left out the fact that they had
  321. 11:08dated for four they [ __ ]
  322. 11:10for years and went on numerous holidays
  323. 11:13together even though she wasn't asked
  324. 11:14directly a truthful subject would most
  325. 11:16often volunteer this information without
  326. 11:18having to be pressed for it
  327. 11:20were you guys friends close friends yeah
  328. 11:22we're very close friends
  329. 11:24i mean what's this all about well it's
  330. 11:25regarding it's a case we're working on
  331. 11:27it involves john
  332. 11:28and in there some of the statements we
  333. 11:31reviewed
  334. 11:32uh you know there's notes and stuff that
  335. 11:34he knew you and stuff oh yeah i mean
  336. 11:36good friends um lived in the dorms for
  337. 11:39i was in the dorms for two years um you
  338. 11:42guys lived in the same dorm
  339. 11:44yeah okay yeah dijkstra okay were you
  340. 11:46guys just friends or anything else
  341. 11:48or yeah we were we were good friends
  342. 11:51yeah was there any relationship bro she
  343. 11:53keeps [ __ ] slapping the table dude
  344. 11:55okay
  345. 11:56it's a it's a wrap see this is called
  346. 11:59slapping the table method
  347. 12:04okay when you do that you got got
  348. 12:08to develop between you guys yeah i need
  349. 12:10to be dated
  350. 12:12you know um i mean is it take notes
  351. 12:16these are good jokes that you can
  352. 12:17[ __ ] add
  353. 12:18to your commentary to spice it up when
  354. 12:19you watch the same video later
  355. 12:24what's this all about well it's relating
  356. 12:26to
  357. 12:27uh his wife it's unfortunate that
  358. 12:29stephanie's face wasn't captured at this
  359. 12:31moment because she would have no doubt
  360. 12:33been immediately struck by the
  361. 12:34psychological reaction known as fight or
  362. 12:37flight her brain would have just
  363. 12:38triggered the influx of a specific
  364. 12:40cocktail of hormones in order to prepare
  365. 12:42her to either
  366. 12:43stay and deal with a threat or try and
  367. 12:45run away to safety
  368. 12:46stephanie chooses to fight okay
  369. 12:49okay did you know her not really i mean
  370. 12:52i knew that he got married years ago
  371. 12:54uh-huh did you ever meet her god i don't
  372. 12:57know
  373. 12:58um do you know who she was or anything
  374. 13:00yeah i met her when i [ __ ]
  375. 13:02murdered her sorry well i let me think
  376. 13:06i apologize a long time ago um
  377. 13:11i may have met her um
  378. 13:14jeez the words gosh god
  379. 13:17g are exclamatory remarks used to
  380. 13:20express surprise or strong emotion you
  381. 13:22will see them used continuously
  382. 13:24this is a opie white person technique
  383. 13:26okay
  384. 13:29this is incredibly powerful if you are
  385. 13:32if you are born into
  386. 13:34uh a a the if you because you know we
  387. 13:37all get randomized spawn points but if
  388. 13:38you if your spawn point is like uh
  389. 13:41uh white this is a very valuable tool
  390. 13:45that you can use to always uh you know
  391. 13:48penetrate people's defenses like when
  392. 13:50you say gosh you're like
  393. 13:52automatically people assume like oh
  394. 13:54there's no shot this is a murderer
  395. 13:57gosh golly gee darn it exactly
  396. 14:01so good throughout this interrogation
  397. 14:04which is the suspect
  398. 14:05trying to insinuate a vague memory due
  399. 14:07to a lack of contemplation on the
  400. 14:09subject matter she's trying to omit the
  401. 14:11impression that she would have had no
  402. 14:12reason to give any further thought to
  403. 14:14john
  404. 14:14or anything related to john since they
  405. 14:16stopped seeing each other over two
  406. 14:18decades ago
  407. 14:19you know yeah uh well let me see
  408. 14:22let me ask you you said you dated john
  409. 14:24how long did you guys date
  410. 14:28i mean why are you guys is this
  411. 14:30something
  412. 14:31as we know stephanie is a cop and has
  413. 14:33been for 25 years she will be wise to
  414. 14:36the fact that acting oblivious to the
  415. 14:37unusual development of the situation
  416. 14:39will be a glaring red flag in the eyes
  417. 14:41of the investigators
  418. 14:42it's been shown time and again on this
  419. 14:44channel guilty suspects will often try
  420. 14:46and act naive to a blatant confrontation
  421. 14:48as a means to avoiding it altogether
  422. 14:50whereas truthful subjects will address
  423. 14:52the confrontation
  424. 14:53and either refute it or if it's subtle
  425. 14:56want immediate clarification and
  426. 14:57transparency as to what was being
  427. 14:59insinuated
  428. 15:00i mean you said i was going to interview
  429. 15:02somebody about art and how you guys are
  430. 15:04here's i mean stephanie here's the
  431. 15:06situation it's basically
  432. 15:08we you know we knew that this when we
  433. 15:11saw this in the in
  434. 15:12in this chrono that maybe you know there
  435. 15:13was some relationship there that's what
  436. 15:15the chronos seem to indicate the
  437. 15:16detective now subtly avoids the question
  438. 15:18altogether but instead offers a
  439. 15:20deceptively reassuring response to the
  440. 15:22suspect he makes a very sharp switch
  441. 15:24from the investigative subject matter to
  442. 15:26the previous topic of workplace rumors
  443. 15:28he brings her focus back to the false
  444. 15:30perception of them being on her side
  445. 15:32stephanie had just asked what was going
  446. 15:34on and now he essentially replies with
  447. 15:36we are your friends
  448. 15:37we're doing you a favor and we didn't
  449. 15:39want to come up to you
  450. 15:41at your desk and ask those kinds of
  451. 15:42questions or do it bro
  452. 15:44i dude hurt you when you can see the
  453. 15:46white of her eyes like that dude you
  454. 15:48just
  455. 15:48it's over just slap the handcuffs you
  456. 15:50know this is a 10 minute video dude
  457. 15:52anything you know how up there people
  458. 15:54can see what's going on if you go into
  459. 15:55an interview room or people are in there
  460. 15:57getting supplies
  461. 15:57i mean so we wanted to like i didn't do
  462. 16:01the murder i would gosh
  463. 16:02golly gee how could i have done the
  464. 16:06murder
  465. 16:07afford you some privacy some
  466. 16:09confidentiality to talk about this
  467. 16:10because we thought it might be you know
  468. 16:12something you know you're married to
  469. 16:13someone else obviously and so forth and
  470. 16:15that you may not want to you know talk
  471. 16:16about these things in that setting where
  472. 16:18someone
  473. 16:18you know we don't want the rumor mill or
  474. 16:19gossip or anything goddamn
  475. 16:27where your business isn't out there for
  476. 16:29other people in your division
  477. 16:31whether it be shock or the total
  478. 16:33reluctance to accept the situation at
  479. 16:35hand
  480. 16:35stephanie warily accepts the reassuring
  481. 16:37response without further inquiry into
  482. 16:40her initial challenge
  483. 16:41she instead falls back into her agenda
  484. 16:43of having a foggy memory with regard to
  485. 16:45the incriminating contents
  486. 16:46you know god that's been a million years
  487. 16:48ago i mean you know
  488. 16:52what year is it now 2009 i mean i
  489. 16:54graduated in 82
  490. 16:5682 yeah um
  491. 17:00you know we dated um i dated other guys
  492. 17:03i'm sure he dated other girls um
  493. 17:06well let me ask you roughly how long
  494. 17:09would you would you say you guys did
  495. 17:10oh geez um
  496. 17:14i couldn't even say i mean notice how
  497. 17:17she now goes on to over explain things
  498. 17:19that don't require an explanation
  499. 17:21and weren't even inquired about it's a
  500. 17:23clear-cut indication of hyper-arousal
  501. 17:25and a derivative of tmt also known as
  502. 17:27terror management theory the suspect
  503. 17:30will go off on
  504. 17:30unrelated tangents as means for gaining
  505. 17:33momentary relief
  506. 17:34going into detail about trivial things
  507. 17:36affords her a brief escape from the
  508. 17:38terrifying reality eventuating before
  509. 17:40her this is a very common occurrence in
  510. 17:42interrogations where the suspect is
  511. 17:44facing serious charges and
  512. 17:46psychiatrists believe it to be a
  513. 17:47subconscious coping mechanism
  514. 17:49i started school there in 78 i started
  515. 17:52ucla set in 1978
  516. 17:54i graduated in 82 i don't
  517. 17:58even remember what year he graduated if
  518. 18:00it was a year or two before me
  519. 18:02okay um i think he was a little bit
  520. 18:04older than i was
  521. 18:05i mean you know i can't remember if he
  522. 18:06was born let's say i'm born in
  523. 18:0860 1960 i don't know if he was born in
  524. 18:1158 or 59 i mean i you know
  525. 18:13i mean i knew his parents i knew a
  526. 18:15sister his brother went to northridge
  527. 18:18um um you know sister
  528. 18:21spent the night at my house before
  529. 18:23obviously i spent the night at his house
  530. 18:25before he probably spent the night at my
  531. 18:26house before
  532. 18:28um you know i i yeah i don't
  533. 18:32correct me if i'm wrong because from
  534. 18:34what you're telling me you guys dated
  535. 18:36while you were in college together right
  536. 18:37yeah and probably after college
  537. 18:39um i can't
  538. 18:42bro she is leaking dude
  539. 18:45she is a leaky faucet right now these
  540. 18:48detectives are pretty [ __ ] good
  541. 18:50like she went from she went from uh
  542. 18:56she went from no i don't know him to
  543. 18:58like yeah we [ __ ] dated i know his
  544. 19:00entire family
  545. 19:01like i'm the biggest fan of him
  546. 19:05i know i know him and his family real
  547. 19:08[ __ ] real well dude real
  548. 19:10well geez um they didn't do anything
  549. 19:13that's not true they [ __ ] lured her
  550. 19:15in with a uh
  551. 19:16they literally lured her in dude that no
  552. 19:19i was actually good i think when i met
  553. 19:20my husband i met my husband
  554. 19:23what state is this in it take one guess
  555. 19:25it's not florida and it's not
  556. 19:27arizona okay there you go that's all you
  557. 19:29need to know these are
  558. 19:30uh california cops um already detectives
  559. 19:34let's see
  560. 19:35i was teaching dare because i met scott
  561. 19:37when i was teaching deer up in oregon
  562. 19:39but we had long stopped you know
  563. 19:42dating before that so you haven't talked
  564. 19:44to him for a long time
  565. 19:46oh i i think i haven't talked to him in
  566. 19:48a long time um i couldn't even tell you
  567. 19:49when the last time i talked to him
  568. 19:51um i met scott i'm thinking in
  569. 19:5592 maybe um april of 92
  570. 19:59it was scott being your husband yeah i'm
  571. 20:00trying to think i was teaching dare
  572. 20:03let's see what year is this we'll be
  573. 20:06married
  574. 20:07i got married in 1996. i think i met
  575. 20:09scott in 92
  576. 20:11prior to that i couldn't tell you how
  577. 20:12long i had talked you know talked to
  578. 20:15john prior to that but since you since
  579. 20:17you met your husband scott you haven't
  580. 20:19talked to
  581. 20:20him i mean he may have called me
  582. 20:23uh once or twice before we got married
  583. 20:26right um you know geez i i lived
  584. 20:30i moved to see me in 1994
  585. 20:33because i lost my house in the
  586. 20:34earthquake um
  587. 20:36uh quite honestly i probably keep in
  588. 20:38contact with
  589. 20:40a few people from the dorms we all we've
  590. 20:42all lived on the tenth floor
  591. 20:44oh jeez ah shucks um
  592. 20:48there's
  593. 20:52about three or four people i keep in
  594. 20:54contact with there's probably like six
  595. 20:56or eight of us that were all really
  596. 20:57close
  597. 20:58who are those people oh geez um
  598. 21:01diana basta um
  599. 21:05the people i still keep i i haven't been
  600. 21:07in contact with her in a long time
  601. 21:09um i mean what's
  602. 21:12what's i mean what's this all about i
  603. 21:14mean well let me ask you that
  604. 21:16the suspect challenges the detectives
  605. 21:18for the second time
  606. 21:19and once again the question is avoided
  607. 21:21but this time in a more confrontational
  608. 21:23manner as the topic is maintained with
  609. 21:25no reassurance afforded the detectives
  610. 21:27are ramping up the pressure in a very
  611. 21:29subtle yet highly effective manner when
  612. 21:31did the relationship between
  613. 21:32you and john you know i don't
  614. 21:36it was kind of a weird relationship i
  615. 21:38mean we
  616. 21:39we dated um i can't say that he was my
  617. 21:42boyfriend i don't know that he would
  618. 21:43have considered me his girlfriend
  619. 21:46um we just we dated we did things i
  620. 21:48played sports in college he played
  621. 21:49basketball
  622. 21:51his brother played basketball um
  623. 21:54we just you know it just
  624. 21:58didn't work out i mean i don't know what
  625. 22:00to tell you it was like i went out with
  626. 22:01other guys
  627. 22:02um saw the guys they went on lots of
  628. 22:05vacations
  629. 22:06um you know and once you guys
  630. 22:09split were you guys still friends or
  631. 22:11kind of he's like i
  632. 22:12[ __ ] a lot dude i was just like
  633. 22:16you know just a sea of dicks and myself
  634. 22:20you know i was hooking up left and right
  635. 22:22dude i was finding
  636. 22:23all the just please anything to just
  637. 22:26make you believe that i did not murder
  638. 22:27this person
  639. 22:28okay please is it
  640. 22:31friendly not friendly no i don't think
  641. 22:33it was not friendly i mean we were
  642. 22:35friendly
  643. 22:35um i know that we went to hawaii
  644. 22:40um at one point yeah i mean i
  645. 22:43you know and you were saying that um
  646. 22:47it's 2009 now had you ever met his wife
  647. 22:51i may have do you know do you remember
  648. 22:53her name or anything
  649. 22:54or um
  650. 22:58her facial expressions are so
  651. 23:00exaggerated that it reminds me of a
  652. 23:02[ __ ] tick tock video like like a
  653. 23:04bella porch video the
  654. 23:06faster the beat faster to beat bounce
  655. 23:08bounce bounce bomb bastard to be
  656. 23:09like look at look at this look friendly
  657. 23:11i mean
  658. 23:18like that's what it that's what it feels
  659. 23:19like we went to hawaii
  660. 23:22um at one point yeah i mean i
  661. 23:25you know and you were saying that um
  662. 23:29it's 2009 now had you ever met his wife
  663. 23:32i may have do you know do you remember
  664. 23:34her name or anything or
  665. 23:37um
  666. 23:40um or what she did for a living or
  667. 23:44or she so as a cop her not calling for a
  668. 23:47lawyer
  669. 23:48at this point he's like
  670. 23:51pretty [ __ ] i mean i guess like she
  671. 23:53feels secure because she is a cop so
  672. 23:55she's like
  673. 23:57around other cops so she just never
  674. 23:59thought she would get caught
  675. 24:00but also it's pretty good on behalf of
  676. 24:02the other cops who like
  677. 24:03made her feel so safe that she's just
  678. 24:07like yeah i
  679. 24:09like what's going on am i a suspect here
  680. 24:12that's not the worst that tiktaki boomer
  681. 24:13i don't [ __ ] know man
  682. 24:15it's not like the words matter dude we
  683. 24:17all watched it because we thought bella
  684. 24:19porch
  685. 24:19was hot there's something captivating
  686. 24:23about that video
  687. 24:24i don't know what it was it worked or
  688. 24:27anything about her the suspect was just
  689. 24:30asked three consecutive questions
  690. 24:32relating to the victim
  691. 24:33she was supposedly in a reflective state
  692. 24:35during all three of the questions yet
  693. 24:37her facial expression completely changed
  694. 24:39for the third one
  695. 24:40this is because she was pretending to be
  696. 24:41in a state of reflection for the first
  697. 24:43two questions as she already knew the
  698. 24:45answers whereas for the third question
  699. 24:47she actually was in a state of
  700. 24:48reflection and was genuinely searching
  701. 24:50her memory for the correct response
  702. 24:53had you ever met his wife i may have
  703. 24:56do you know do you remember her name or
  704. 24:58anything or
  705. 25:00um
  706. 25:03um bro this person is
  707. 25:06is so like this i could beat this person
  708. 25:10in poker dude
  709. 25:12like she's like physically incapable of
  710. 25:14lying and when i mean physically i mean
  711. 25:16like literally her body is just like
  712. 25:18screaming
  713. 25:18i am lying right now i am lying to you
  714. 25:24the third question is about to be posed
  715. 25:26and her focus is about to switch from
  716. 25:28pretending to be thinking to actually
  717. 25:30thinking or what she did for a living
  718. 25:32or where she worked or anything about
  719. 25:34her well i think she like i'm going to
  720. 25:36say that i think she was a nurse
  721. 25:41and i can't even remember how he said he
  722. 25:42met her uh yeah i mean i i
  723. 25:45yeah i mean it's been so long ago well
  724. 25:47let me ask did you go to their wedding
  725. 25:49you know no i didn't go to their wedding
  726. 25:51um
  727. 25:52no i don't did not go to their wedding
  728. 25:55um
  729. 25:56i couldn't even tell you what year he
  730. 25:57got married i mean you know it's been a
  731. 25:59million years ago
  732. 26:00you know again i mean what you know
  733. 26:04i don't understand why you're talking
  734. 26:05about some guy dated a million years ago
  735. 26:07well do you know what happened to his
  736. 26:08wife
  737. 26:09yeah i know she got killed you wouldn't
  738. 26:11need to be an expert in body language to
  739. 26:13recognize the unmitigated terror
  740. 26:15emanating from the suspect's face at
  741. 26:17this moment she had just verbalized the
  742. 26:18victim's tragic demise for the first
  743. 26:20time in most likely over two decades
  744. 26:24what did you hear about that like i saw
  745. 26:27a poster at work
  746. 26:28um i'm sure i spoke to him about it
  747. 26:31um i think i said i spoke to him
  748. 26:34before the murder dun
  749. 26:37no but like dude imagine you [ __ ] got
  750. 26:41away with murder for like
  751. 26:44so many years and then they just
  752. 26:47they just come back and they're like
  753. 26:48what's up this is a cold case and uh
  754. 26:50guess what
  755. 26:51you're the one who did it spoke to
  756. 26:53another friend of his about it
  757. 26:55um and how did you first learn about
  758. 26:58that
  759. 26:59jeez someone could have called me i
  760. 27:03could heard it at work
  761. 27:05um i think at one point there may have
  762. 27:07been a flyer or something
  763. 27:09i know a good friend of his uh are you
  764. 27:11on the job back then when that happened
  765. 27:13yeah i think so yeah i'm sure i was on
  766. 27:15the job that's why i would have heard
  767. 27:16about it
  768. 27:17with the flyer um he had a good friend
  769. 27:19mike
  770. 27:20mike baldrick mike
  771. 27:24um i don't think she's still
  772. 27:27um you know being that you're kind of
  773. 27:30used to see uh john you know was
  774. 27:34it everything okay between you guys i
  775. 27:35mean there wasn't every anything
  776. 27:37uncomfortable or anything between you
  777. 27:38and her
  778. 27:39um eight separate witnesses testified
  779. 27:43that stephanie had confronted sherry at
  780. 27:45the hospital she worked at while the two
  781. 27:46of them were reportedly
  782. 27:48in an intimate relationship with jon the
  783. 27:50confrontation was said to have been
  784. 27:51highly aggressive
  785. 27:52and stephanie had to be escorted off the
  786. 27:54premises by security
  787. 27:55reports stated that stephanie was by far
  788. 27:58the more combative and even made threats
  789. 28:00against sherry's life
  790. 28:02you know i don't know i mean it's god
  791. 28:03it's been so many years i mean
  792. 28:07uncomfortable i mean
  793. 28:10i can't even i can't even remember if we
  794. 28:12had a conversation i mean
  795. 28:14we may have i may have i may have seen
  796. 28:16her at his apart
  797. 28:17you know geez how many years ago was
  798. 28:21that i don't even know what year she
  799. 28:22you know got killed where was his
  800. 28:24apartment notice her passive disposition
  801. 28:26as she gives the
  802. 28:27vote she literally knows everything
  803. 28:30about the dude including like
  804. 28:33her brother her sister whatever the [ __ ]
  805. 28:36from like 30 40 years ago but she can't
  806. 28:39remember like
  807. 28:41this person that uh that the love of uh
  808. 28:45her life [ __ ] married the following
  809. 28:48truthful response
  810. 28:49on roscoe okay yeah roscoe and um
  811. 28:53um east or west of de so uh
  812. 28:58either easter west in desoto do you know
  813. 29:00where he moved after
  814. 29:01did he move after he got married or do
  815. 29:03you know or now notice how her
  816. 29:04disposition switches from passive to
  817. 29:06frantic as she once again pretends to
  818. 29:08have a vague memory
  819. 29:12oh i'm sure he did did you know where he
  820. 29:16was living or
  821. 29:19somewhere in the valley did you ever
  822. 29:21visit him
  823. 29:22and his wife no no never went out you
  824. 29:25know
  825. 29:28bro it's like this is like training
  826. 29:31wheels dude
  827. 29:32she's don't say hindsight like this is
  828. 29:35the most suspicious person in the
  829. 29:36history of suspicion
  830. 29:40she's not even throwing dude she's just
  831. 29:42like her face literally just like
  832. 29:44yes yeah no no
  833. 29:49i could have never oh get together
  834. 29:52dinners
  835. 29:53no no like i said his sister used to
  836. 29:57come over
  837. 29:58his sister had come to my place i knew
  838. 30:01her
  839. 30:01i knew his brother because his brother
  840. 30:02played basketball at northridge
  841. 30:04um in fact i was just coming across some
  842. 30:06pictures that i just can't
  843. 30:08uh scan from um i take a lot of photos
  844. 30:12yeah she's doing
  845. 30:13la noir faces dude um like ten thousand
  846. 30:17and i just did a service where i scanned
  847. 30:20everything
  848. 30:22and after his wife died did
  849. 30:26did you talk to him again or anything
  850. 30:28yeah i mean i did talk to him
  851. 30:31i talked to him probably his parents
  852. 30:34probably some other friends um you know
  853. 30:39i'm sure i talked to him yeah um but you
  854. 30:43you seem pretty old but don't look like
  855. 30:45it i'm
  856. 30:46[ __ ] i'm about to be 30 but
  857. 30:49i don't know what to say about that you
  858. 30:51don't you're not sure where he moved to
  859. 30:52after thank you i guess
  860. 30:54no idea i never went over to visit him
  861. 30:57or i don't think i mean i don't think so
  862. 30:59i mean
  863. 31:00um i don't know i don't i mean i don't
  864. 31:03think i did
  865. 31:04um i know he lived on roscoe for a long
  866. 31:08long time
  867. 31:09um
  868. 31:14after uh john's wife died and you said
  869. 31:17you
  870. 31:18may have been talking to him did uh your
  871. 31:20relationship
  872. 31:21start up again i would say no
  873. 31:24bro she leaked everything in 15 minutes
  874. 31:26by the way
  875. 31:28like some of these other murderers like
  876. 31:31they literally
  877. 31:32they're like a wall that you need to
  878. 31:34breach you know what i mean like
  879. 31:35they don't give you nothing for like
  880. 31:37days on end and like you have to wear
  881. 31:39them down and [ __ ]
  882. 31:40she's basically like 15 minutes she's
  883. 31:42like yeah i didn't know him uh
  884. 31:43proceeds to tell everything about the
  885. 31:45dude
  886. 31:46and like immediately explain like uh her
  887. 31:49incredibly close relationship with not
  888. 31:51just this dude uh whose
  889. 31:53wife was murdered um 25 years ago but
  890. 31:56also the entire family
  891. 31:58um again can you give me a year
  892. 32:01i mean this is like 2009. she died in
  893. 32:051986 yeah i think it was 86 1986.
  894. 32:08okay um like i said i'm i'm faintly
  895. 32:12remembering
  896. 32:13that i went to hawaii
  897. 32:18with my friend gray greg and i got
  898. 32:19certified scuba diving
  899. 32:22um and i'm thinking that john met us
  900. 32:25there
  901. 32:25meaning greg and i um
  902. 32:30after he dude people that get on
  903. 32:32tangents like this
  904. 32:34i feel like it's such a leak too it's
  905. 32:36such a because
  906. 32:38it's kind of like you don't want to
  907. 32:40describe
  908. 32:41the the events the gruesome events so
  909. 32:44you're like having a hard time faintly
  910. 32:46remembering a lot of [ __ ]
  911. 32:47and then boom all of a sudden you like
  912. 32:49literally remember every minute detail
  913. 32:52about
  914. 32:52your scuba diving experience like it's
  915. 32:55pretty
  916. 32:56obvious that like you're just trying to
  917. 32:57move the conversation away from that
  918. 33:00but it's also kind of a silly thing to
  919. 33:02do because like what you think the cop
  920. 33:04is gonna be like
  921. 33:04oh wow that's sick like you went scuba
  922. 33:06diving in hawaii like
  923. 33:08tell me more about that i love scuba
  924. 33:10diving like in a moment of desperation
  925. 33:13like
  926. 33:13the mind is so wonderful like what what
  927. 33:15are you thinking in that moment like do
  928. 33:17you literally think that the cop is
  929. 33:18gonna be like
  930. 33:19oh that's [ __ ] sick like tell me more
  931. 33:26after he got uh married or whatever were
  932. 33:29you dating anybody
  933. 33:31in particular and that was what year
  934. 33:341986 you said i think he got married
  935. 33:36in around 85 86 something like that were
  936. 33:39you seeing anyone seriously or
  937. 33:41god i couldn't say
  938. 33:44um geez i'm trying to think i mean
  939. 33:48you know i dated a fireman
  940. 33:55randy may have dated a gal that mike was
  941. 33:58dating
  942. 33:59and that and then mike randy broke up
  943. 34:02with that gal
  944. 34:03i couldn't even tell you of the gal's
  945. 34:05name if i'm even thinking of the story
  946. 34:06right
  947. 34:07and then i started dating randy yeah
  948. 34:11i you know so again i mean
  949. 34:14not like i was a huge floozy or anything
  950. 34:16but no
  951. 34:18no
  952. 34:22did you start a relationship again with
  953. 34:24with john or
  954. 34:26dating casually or anything like that
  955. 34:30like i said he met greg and i in hawaii
  956. 34:35um you know uh what island did we go to
  957. 34:42i think the big island in kauai
  958. 34:45i mean when when you heard about uh
  959. 34:48john's wife being killed i mean what was
  960. 34:50your
  961. 34:51what was your reaction i mean did you
  962. 34:53thought you heard about relief
  963. 34:54went through a friend or a bulletin a
  964. 34:57friend or a bulletin
  965. 34:58um i mean i called they called the
  966. 35:00family um
  967. 35:02i i called maybe some of his friends
  968. 35:04that that that i knew and i mean
  969. 35:05obviously it shocked your fear
  970. 35:07if i heard it at work you know um which
  971. 35:09i may have i faintly remember
  972. 35:11a bulletin going around you know
  973. 35:15um do you know what the circumstances
  974. 35:18were
  975. 35:19regarding her death um
  976. 35:23jeez let me think back um
  977. 35:27jeez i don't know if it was you know if
  978. 35:30it was a burglary or something
  979. 35:32uh yeah it's i mean it's been so many
  980. 35:34years i i mean i can faintly
  981. 35:36think that i may have saw a flyer yeah
  982. 35:39may have had a picture on it
  983. 35:41you know um i mean that's why i say if
  984. 35:44somebody had called me
  985. 35:46i may not have known what her last name
  986. 35:48was i may have i mean
  987. 35:50maybe if you told me i would remember it
  988. 35:51bro how are you a [ __ ] cop
  989. 35:54and like still unaware that you are
  990. 35:57literally being interrogated now like
  991. 36:01like how how are you a [ __ ] cop for
  992. 36:04like
  993. 36:05so many years and
  994. 36:08don't realize that like these dudes are
  995. 36:12just straight up onto you dude
  996. 36:25she wasn't read her rights i'm pretty
  997. 36:26sure she's just banking off that only
  998. 36:28fact
  999. 36:31um do you remember my first name
  1000. 36:34shelley um sherry
1001. 36:38i know something maybe you know um like
1002. 36:41i said it's been so many years and
1003. 36:43um from all the years as far as you can
  1004. 36:45remember
1005. 36:46you don't you remember ever talking to
  1006. 36:48her just
1007. 36:49well she i said earlier you know i mean
  1008. 36:53i may have and i'm i'm now i'm thinking
  1009. 36:56i'd put me
1010. 36:56i may have gone to here and say hey you
1011. 36:57know what you know what
  1012. 36:59is he dating you he's but he's bothering
  1013. 37:01me um
  1014. 37:03and so i'm thinking that we had a
  1015. 37:04conversation about that um
  1016. 37:07one or two maybe i i you know i it could
  1017. 37:10have been three i don't want to say
1018. 37:12i had three conversations with her like
  1019. 37:13i didn't get her work or
  1020. 37:15if they're at their house or no i'm
  1021. 37:17thinking that i'm
1022. 37:19you know bro she literally
1023. 37:22it's like unwinding dude what a throw
1024. 37:27it's like slowly but surely in a matter
  1025. 37:30of 27 minutes
  1026. 37:32she literally went from i don't know the
1027. 37:35guy just kidding i know his entire
  1028. 37:37family
1029. 37:37never seen him just kidding dated him
1030. 37:39for four years just kidding actually
1031. 37:41also continuously saw him recently
1032. 37:44or not recently but like around the time
1033. 37:46of the murder never met the wife just
1034. 37:48kidding know everything about the wife
1035. 37:50and have multiple conversations with her
  1036. 37:52like what the [ __ ] dude
1037. 37:57just from that alone it feels like
1038. 38:05like it almost feels like she wants to
1039. 38:07admit it he obviously must have told me
  1040. 38:09where she worked
1041. 38:10i'm thinking it was a hospital somewhere
  1042. 38:13in la
  1043. 38:14and i just i mean i could have been
1044. 38:17again what year was that where was i
  1045. 38:18working
  1046. 38:19um
1047. 38:2592 or 93 there was a big earthquake no
  1048. 38:27when was a big earthquake
  1049. 38:30april of 92. tangent about natural
  1050. 38:32disaster
1051. 38:35oh what is that face what is she doing
  1052. 38:38bro
1053. 38:39she's so sh she's doing the strangest
  1054. 38:41things with her face
  1055. 38:43what what is that
1056. 38:51i think i stopped teaching deer sometime
1057. 38:52in 92. when you said like hey you know
1058. 38:54he's calling me he needs to knock it off
1059. 38:56or what have you i mean was that was
  1060. 38:57that civil was there
1061. 38:58oh no there was not i don't think there
1062. 39:00was anything it was if the conversation
  1063. 39:02lasted
  1064. 39:02uh uh a few minutes i can't even
1065. 39:04remember and what is it like you know we
1066. 39:05went out to lunch or anything right but
1067. 39:07there was no like arguments or
1068. 39:08fights or you didn't get heated or
1069. 39:10anything like that not that i recall
1070. 39:12no i mean i would think that would stand
  1071. 39:14out i would think
1072. 39:15now again if i saw that face i'd be like
  1073. 39:17a wrestler right now
1074. 39:19i'd just be like all right it's time put
  1075. 39:20the handcuffs boys that's it
1076. 39:24she did the biting dude she literally
  1077. 39:27did the same
1078. 39:28biting technique that she used on
  1079. 39:31her like uh sex partner's wife
  1080. 39:36she literally [ __ ] bit the air like
  1081. 39:39i can't even do i don't know how the
1082. 39:40[ __ ] she did that yes the face should be
1083. 39:43illegal that's not standing out in my
  1084. 39:45mind
  1085. 39:46um you know
1086. 39:50so you didn't have any problems with her
1087. 39:52then you didn't have any issues with her
1088. 39:54no i mean but let me let me ask you it
1089. 39:56seems like you didn't have any issue
1090. 39:58now did she have an issue with you as
  1091. 40:00far as because now
1092. 40:02you're telling her hey you don't have to
  1093. 40:04stop calling you know she's like
1094. 40:06you know you figure she'd be threatened
  1095. 40:08by you you know i've
  1096. 40:10i don't know i mean from what you
1097. 40:12remember as far as when you talk to her
  1098. 40:13maybe
1099. 40:14you didn't take it as serious but maybe
  1100. 40:16you know did she
1101. 40:18if she was bothering me like was she
1102. 40:19throwing things at me or something or
  1103. 40:20not just
1104. 40:21you know as far as you're trying to
1105. 40:23explain like hey have them stop calling
  1106. 40:24me you know
1107. 40:25stop playing games you know i i tell you
  1108. 40:28if the conversation i couldn't even tell
1109. 40:30you how long the conversation if you
  1110. 40:31said
1111. 40:31did it last a half an hour did it last
1112. 40:33three minutes to the last 20 minutes
  1113. 40:35i can't even remember it's been so long
  1114. 40:37ago
1115. 40:38so you would have gone feels enroute to
1116. 40:41work you more likely would have gone to
  1117. 40:42her work
1118. 40:43and had this discussion with her i mean
  1119. 40:45that's sounding familiar
1120. 40:47i mean that's now that you guys are
1121. 40:48bringing this stuff up um
  1122. 40:53but again i mean you know
1123. 40:56what's i mean what's this got to do with
1124. 40:57me dayton what i actually want to know
  1125. 40:59is like
  1126. 41:00who the [ __ ] did they literally convict
  1127. 41:02for 20 years like
1128. 41:03and sentenced to jail forever uh in her
  1129. 41:07stead
  1130. 41:07like was this a
  1131. 41:13who no one
1132. 41:19i think it was a cold case
  1133. 41:24because like didn't they think that
  1134. 41:25there was a sequence of break-ins with
  1135. 41:27like uh
1136. 41:28two random latino dudes or something him
  1137. 41:31and
  1138. 41:31you know her getting killed i mean i i'm
1139. 41:34chad acting like they don't do this all
  1140. 41:36the time by the way what the [ __ ]
  1141. 41:39like i know we're watching like a bit of
  1142. 41:41a propaganda but
1143. 41:43i just want to let you know that like
1144. 41:45you know if they had caught those two
  1145. 41:46latino dudes you bet your [ __ ] ass
1146. 41:48that they would have been pinned on this
  1147. 42:00crime
  1148. 42:05i don't you know i don't have anything
1149. 42:06to do with it and
  1150. 42:08you got something that's somebody said
  1151. 42:10you know whatever
1152. 42:11i mean well like we said we just
1153. 42:13literally got this the other day and and
  1154. 42:15you're going through
1155. 42:16it yeah and you see i forgot it was a
  1156. 42:18cold case next door
1157. 42:19right and so you know i mean obviously
1158. 42:22it's like we recognize the name
1159. 42:23we know you know you work next door to
1160. 42:24us and so we're trying to get some
  1161. 42:26background we're trying to figure this
1162. 42:27out i mean this is from a long time ago
1163. 42:29oh i know you know and things have been
1164. 42:31kind of slow for us and so you know
1165. 42:33chief beck has said hey you know i want
  1166. 42:34you guys working i don't want you just
1167. 42:36sitting around reading the paper
1168. 42:37yeah so he's kind of pushing some older
1169. 42:39cases out even to the guys that work
1170. 42:40active cases because you know and so we
1171. 42:42see this and we're just like oh
1172. 42:43you know we want to talk to you about it
1173. 42:44but of course the only reason we did it
1174. 42:46here is because we're getting into some
1175. 42:47pretty personal stuff in your
  1176. 42:48relationship
1177. 42:49my husband's on the job for the record
  1178. 42:52there's a
1179. 42:5358 uh like in 2019 the homicide
  1180. 42:57clearance uh
  1181. 42:58rate was 58 percent
  1182. 43:01so like
1183. 43:04about 40 of uh murders go unsolved
  1184. 43:10why'd you say wrong
  1185. 43:24what
1186. 43:27i mean the data i'm looking at shows
  1187. 43:29that
1188. 43:32as far as homicide goes in
1189. 43:3520 uh i mean i just gave you the number
  1190. 43:38like
  1191. 43:3958 percent was cleared
1192. 43:51acknowledge how she acts like trump yeah
1193. 43:53her face does like resemble donald
  1194. 43:55trump's mannerisms a lot
  1195. 43:59it's a resolution range which includes
  1196. 44:01convictions which are eventually
  1197. 44:02overturned or
1198. 44:03are still in appeal or so probably lower
  1199. 44:06i mean
1200. 44:07okay but how much lower
1201. 44:12there are obviously uh false uh
1202. 44:15i mean there are obviously conv false
1203. 44:17convictions too on top of that
1204. 44:22but it's still not going to be like
  1205. 44:26you're actually wrong it's 11 more than
  1206. 44:28what you said
1207. 44:29the number i'm giving you is like off of
  1208. 44:32google dude it's freshly googled
  1209. 44:34[ __ ]
  1210. 44:37okay i and i gave you a specific year
  1211. 44:39too so you're like you can't say i'm
  1212. 44:41[ __ ] wrong
  1213. 44:42like project coldcase.org cold case
  1214. 44:46homicide stats like
  1215. 44:49like what the [ __ ] do you want from me i
  1216. 44:50i gave you
1217. 44:52homicide clearance rates in the united
  1218. 44:55states
1219. 44:56uh in in 2019 and the dude was like
  1220. 44:59you're [ __ ]
  1221. 45:00wrong dude
  1222. 45:05oh he's trolling his 11 more 69 percent
  1223. 45:08no because
1224. 45:09some uh some stats also show that 62
  1225. 45:11percent of murders
1226. 45:12and 33 percent of rapes go solve you
  1227. 45:15know
1228. 45:16we don't want to take the risk in one of
1229. 45:17those interviews and even when the door
  1230. 45:18closed someone's going to get supplies
  1231. 45:20and see us on a monitor here's or
  1232. 45:21whatever
  1233. 45:21i appreciate it i mean i know [ __ ] like
1234. 45:23i said that's where people go when
  1235. 45:24there's orals you know when they're
1236. 45:25doing orals you guys will go in there
  1237. 45:26and try and watch
1238. 45:27what are the answers to the questions
1239. 45:28you know know that yeah so so we just we
1240. 45:30just want to afford you the most privacy
  1241. 45:32and confidentiality we could
  1242. 45:34i appreciate like i said i mean this
  1243. 45:36goes way back and
1244. 45:37i mean it was very sad you know
  1245. 45:39obviously i was like come on why didn't
  1246. 45:40you [ __ ] wear your badge when you did
  1247. 45:42the murder dog
1248. 45:44like you know how easy it is you know
1249. 45:46how easy it would have been for us to
  1250. 45:48just be like
1251. 45:48yeah this was on purpose and and you're
  1252. 45:51fine
  1253. 45:53why didn't you just wear a [ __ ] why
1254. 45:55don't you wear the badge
  1255. 45:57um come on i haven't
1256. 46:00i you know i when we were in college
1257. 46:03some of us would go down to his house in
1258. 46:05san diego i went down to his house with
  1259. 46:07him
  1260. 46:09mansplaining is an interrogation
  1261. 46:11technique 93.
1262. 46:1493 let me get back
1263. 46:18to as far as when you said that
1264. 46:22john was calling you to to see you and
1265. 46:25during that time you felt that he was
1266. 46:28felt he was either seeing her was he
1267. 46:29engaged or married did you know
  1268. 46:32i couldn't say i don't remember you know
  1269. 46:34i don't know
  1270. 46:35um let's see my husband
1271. 46:38but uh during that time that you were
  1272. 46:41seeing john
1273. 46:42uh you know was he acting kind of you
1274. 46:44know kind of squirrelly or kind of
  1275. 46:46sneaking around
1276. 46:47when he'd hook up with you or anything
1277. 46:48like that does it make you think hey you
  1278. 46:51mean yeah
1279. 46:51it probably was i mean well after he
  1280. 46:55hooked up with uh
1281. 46:56with sherry do you know uh where they
  1282. 46:59were living
1283. 47:00no you asked me that already and i said
1284. 47:03well obviously you were living in van
  1285. 47:04nuys division
  1286. 47:05yeah um
1287. 47:08i may have known i mean i you know
  1288. 47:11thanks for reading my comment i
  1289. 47:13showed my mom oh
  1290. 47:18oh that's cute as [ __ ] dude
1291. 47:24well again i you know did he ever give
  1292. 47:26me the address
  1293. 47:28maybe you know i don't remember i mean i
  1294. 47:31don't know
1295. 47:33because the only reason i'm asking you
  1296. 47:34again is because we've been talking i
1297. 47:36know some stuff has come to you because
  1298. 47:37you're like oh
  1299. 47:38you know so i don't think i've ever gone
  1300. 47:42there i'm saying i don't
1301. 47:44i don't want to say no i've never gone
1302. 47:45there and then you say oh i was at a
  1303. 47:47party
  1304. 47:48because i i don't you know i don't think
  1305. 47:50so
  1306. 47:51yeah um like i said we've got these
1307. 47:54friends we have different we have
1308. 47:55parties because i know you you went to
  1309. 47:58talk to her
1310. 48:00at the hospital uh regarding this issue
  1311. 48:03with john
1312. 48:04to you know kind of like hey you know
1313. 48:06what's gonna happen here with this thing
1314. 48:08but would this ever have followed up to
1315. 48:09her house when you went to talk to her
  1316. 48:11to say hey
  1317. 48:12you know what i i don't even know that i
  1318. 48:14knew where they lived
  1319. 48:16i you know that's what i'm saying i
1320. 48:17don't if i knew where they lived and i'd
1321. 48:19been there if it was for something
  1322. 48:21social
  1323. 48:22i'd i would i'm i'm and i can't see how
  1324. 48:25many times i
1325. 48:25i saw her face-to-face you know he lived
1326. 48:27on roscoe did i ever see her there
  1327. 48:30i don't know i mean i may have seen her
1328. 48:32at his apartment on roscoe
1329. 48:35i may have met her there you know i i
  1330. 48:38mean
1331. 48:40but you didn't have any issues with her
1332. 48:41right bro when you got like
  1333. 48:44total recollection of like a scuba
  1334. 48:47diving trip
1335. 48:48that you had from hella long ago
1336. 48:52but you can't remember where or how you
  1337. 48:55met
  1338. 48:55a person that was [ __ ] inevitably
  1339. 48:58murdered
  1340. 49:00who was married to
1341. 49:03the dude that you dated and know the
  1342. 49:05entire family of and never [ __ ] lost
  1343. 49:07contact with like
  1344. 49:09come on dude
1345. 49:14that's crazy no i mean you know
  1346. 49:17obviously
1347. 49:18if he was dating me and dating her i
1348. 49:20probably said hey pick or something i
  1349. 49:22can't remember anything from 10 years
  1350. 49:23ago
  1351. 49:24no that makes sense i can't remember
  1352. 49:25what i [ __ ] ate yesterday okay well
  1353. 49:27that's a lot because i ate the same
1354. 49:28thing every day but if i fight
1355. 49:30i understand that but like she literally
  1356. 49:33has like
1357. 49:34perfect recollection of so many events
  1358. 49:37in that same timeline
  1359. 49:39do you understand what i'm saying it's
1360. 49:41like you can't have it both ways
1361. 49:44you know you know you know back then
1362. 49:47um i mean would you remember if she
1363. 49:52snapped on you and just like hey man
1364. 49:54it's my man you know you get
1365. 49:55leave him alone you know blah blah blah
  1366. 49:57that kind of stuff
1367. 49:58you know and would you remember an
1368. 50:01incident like that i mean because that
  1369. 50:02would be like what
1370. 50:03well you know and maybe that happened i
  1371. 50:05mean
1372. 50:08gosh you know it's been so long ago i
  1373. 50:11you know i just
  1374. 50:13i mean that's not ringing a bell um
1375. 50:16because the times i've seen you around
  1376. 50:18in our office i'm crazy
  1377. 50:20but you're always kind of like real i
1378. 50:23mean you seem kind of bubbly
  1379. 50:24oh i'm pr people think i'm really hyper
  1380. 50:27um
  1381. 50:27but i can i mean i can get i can get
  1382. 50:30upset
1383. 50:31you know and and then i forget five
1384. 50:32seconds later you know you know
1385. 50:34how guys rash you and you go ah you know
  1386. 50:37um handcuffs this is
1387. 50:41the fourth time that i would have
1388. 50:43slapped the handcuffs on her
1389. 50:45oh my god this is turning me into more
1390. 50:47of a cop dude every every video i watch
  1391. 50:49i become more of a cop
1392. 50:50i mean i've done that in the office you
  1393. 50:52know but it's like and then i'm
1394. 50:54you know and then i'm you know
1395. 50:57you know i mean water under the bridge
  1396. 50:59yeah i mean it's like people think i'm
  1397. 51:00crazy and then
1398. 51:01they think i'm crazy at home and i'm you
  1399. 51:03know more i'm i'm a hyper person at work
  1400. 51:06i'm
  1401. 51:06you know i i enjoy my job i get excited
  1402. 51:09i you know
  1403. 51:10um i i enjoy the job i've always enjoyed
  1404. 51:13the job
1405. 51:15and then the guys that lived across from
  1406. 51:16me um
  1407. 51:18jim jaskell and roy
1408. 51:22suckaboo suckaboos something like that
1409. 51:24well one of the concerns i have is
1410. 51:26looking at some of the notes is uh some
  1411. 51:29of sherry's friends said
1412. 51:30that you and her were having a problem
  1413. 51:34because bro she's doing the um
  1414. 51:37i'm uh i'm not neurotypical dude
  1415. 51:40he's like i'm hyper i got attention
  1416. 51:43deficit hyperactive
  1417. 51:44uh disorder like i couldn't have done
  1418. 51:48the murder i'm just i got adhd
1419. 51:50she was ahead of the game bro she was
1420. 51:53literally ahead of the game dude
  1421. 51:55of the john situation
  1422. 52:00well number one i don't know who her
  1423. 52:02friends are
  1424. 52:04um because again i don't i don't recall
1425. 52:07if he did tell me where he met her
  1426. 52:10i don't know who these friends are a
  1427. 52:12problem
  1428. 52:13like i said if i spoke to her i mean
1429. 52:16i'll go on as far as the lim
  1430. 52:18and i don't want to say i spoke to her
  1431. 52:19five times because that's probably
  1432. 52:21not even true i i can't even remember um
1433. 52:25again did i meet him at her plate when
1434. 52:27he lived on roscoe for i think
  1435. 52:30quite a while but i couldn't tell you
1436. 52:31how long he lived in roscoe and the only
1437. 52:33reason why i remember the place now is
  1438. 52:34because it's like a
1439. 52:35huge dope dope place now where they you
  1440. 52:37know
1441. 52:38it may have been back then but you know
  1442. 52:40maybe we didn't know back then
1443. 52:42um i could have met her there i could
  1444. 52:44have you know
  1445. 52:48you know i don't even know that i met
  1446. 52:50any of their friends
  1447. 52:52i i i don't i i can't say that i don't
  1448. 52:55know
  1449. 52:55that that's a true statement well that's
  1450. 52:57what i'm reading is that
1451. 52:59you guys have problems with each other
1452. 53:00and words are being exchanged and it's
  1453. 53:02all relating to
  1454. 53:03john you know what i
  1455. 53:07i i i just i can't say you can't say no
  1456. 53:11i that doesn't even ring a bell i mean i
1457. 53:13mean it seems like yeah you would recall
1458. 53:15something if somebody's going off on you
  1459. 53:17right i would think
  1460. 53:18i mean i would think from what you're
1461. 53:20telling me is when you guys met at the
  1462. 53:22hospital
1463. 53:24uh i mean you guys talked but it wasn't
1464. 53:26from what you recall confrontational
  1465. 53:29from either side i i mean
1466. 53:32i'm trying to you know turn my memory
  1467. 53:34back you know
  1468. 53:36and i'm trying i can't even i can't even
  1469. 53:37picture the you know
  1470. 53:39picture the the conversation i mean i
1471. 53:41can't even picture the conversation well
1472. 53:43let me ask you i mean at the hospital
1473. 53:44it never got to the point where people
1474. 53:45are going hey hey you know go to
1475. 53:47everybody go to your own corner type of
  1476. 53:49thing
  1477. 53:49i don't think so nothing like that i
  1478. 53:51don't think so i mean i really don't i
  1479. 53:53mean if you
1480. 53:54you know if you say people said that
1481. 53:56that's not ringing a bell to me at all i
  1482. 53:58mean it's not i mean that that's not
  1483. 54:00ringing a bell
1484. 54:01was there a time when you and sherry
1485. 54:03were talking and john had to maybe like
1486. 54:05you guys relax you know or anything like
  1487. 54:08that
  1488. 54:09i think so about
1489. 54:12you know ever going to her house and
  1490. 54:13having a dispute like that
  1491. 54:16you know i'm just
1492. 54:19if i met her ever at his apartment maybe
1493. 54:22i mean maybe we could have met i could
  1494. 54:24have met her apartment
  1495. 54:26bro 52 minutes dude
  1496. 54:3152 minutes in
1497. 54:34and she is like i don't even know where
  1498. 54:38we got to like
  1499. 54:39it's just like
1500. 54:43she went from she went from i don't know
  1501. 54:46who the [ __ ] this person is to like
1502. 54:48yeah we i know her very well and i
  1503. 54:50[ __ ] hate her
  1504. 54:52yeah i [ __ ] murdered her what of it
  1505. 54:54like
1506. 54:56i'm thinking that the hospital thing
  1507. 54:59that sounds familiar that i i met her
  1508. 55:01there
  1509. 55:04i just can't say that i've ever again
  1510. 55:06was i there with other people
  1511. 55:08i don't i i i don't know um
1512. 55:12i don't think i ever met her there or
  1513. 55:14him there
1514. 55:15um meaning one or the other
  1515. 55:19i don't think so i guess basically what
1516. 55:21i'm asking is you know were you ever
1517. 55:22welcome to the house like
1518. 55:23you know hey oh come over yeah come on
  1519. 55:25over having a barbecue
1520. 55:26at this point he's not even saying
  1521. 55:28anything like
1522. 55:30at this point the detectives are just
  1523. 55:32literally letting her do
  1524. 55:34the thing like they're not even [ __ ]
  1525. 55:36they're not saying a single goddamn
1526. 55:38thing they're just like come on keep it
  1527. 55:40keep it coming
1528. 55:41just she's dug the hole in so
  1529. 55:43aggressively dude
  1530. 55:45whatever i don't know okay i'm just
  1531. 55:48trying to think
1532. 55:52you know like i said because there were
1533. 55:53so many of us that
  1534. 55:55i have 10 000 pictures okay i'm a

  1574. 58:00it's a tick or not but
  1575. 58:07but i would never be like you're being
  1576. 58:08ableist for someone being like don't
  1577. 58:09bite your nails
  1578. 58:17what else
1579. 58:25you rub your hands together and crack
1580. 58:27your knuckles when making a point for
  1581. 58:28the first time
1582. 58:29damn dude chad is like hyper aware dude
1583. 58:34they are chad is hyper aware of
  1584. 58:36everything i do it's kind of crazy
  1585. 58:38it's kind of weird
  1586. 58:52you actually don't do anything weird
1587. 58:53like this i mean none of the things that
1588. 58:57none of the things that uh you're
  1589. 58:59talking about
1590. 59:01none of the things that you're talking
1591. 59:03about are the same as like whatever the
  1592. 59:04[ __ ] she's doing with her face
  1593. 59:10so
  1594. 59:15no a tick is involuntary i mean
  1595. 59:18everything i'm doing i do it on purpose
1596. 59:22like i'm hyper aware of the things that
  1597. 59:24i'm doing
1598. 59:25sometimes you stop and stare at the
  1599. 59:27camera for 60 seconds yeah
1600. 59:29i do that because i have adhd
1601. 59:33okay are you playing that furry game
  1602. 59:36today yeah later
1603. 59:40you always say i talk about this a lot
1604. 59:42on here okay now you guys are just
  1605. 59:43saying [ __ ] that i do
  1606. 59:45like that's not
  1607. 59:56you have a tick where you drop a 60
  1608. 59:57second outbreak every hour
1609. 59:59yeah i do and that's the time for it
1610. 1:00:02okay there you go i can't even get you
  1611. 1:00:05guys when you're all like
1612. 1:00:06gear up get the get the tomatoes ready
  1613. 1:00:08okay so yeah it's a [ __ ] ad break
1614. 1:00:13okay yeah yeah release release
  1615. 1:00:18you do this thing where you're a great
  1616. 1:00:19streamer oh thank you
1617. 1:00:41it's an actual competition now i hate
  1618. 1:00:43that
1619. 1:00:47top of the hour every hour
1620. 1:00:50i have an involuntary uh take to
  1621. 1:00:54describe to you that there's a 60 second
1622. 1:00:56outbreak and if you'd like to no longer
  1623. 1:00:59see those ads
1624. 1:01:00going to support the stream you can
  1625. 1:01:01subscribe for five dollars
1626. 1:01:04or you can do it for free with the
  1627. 1:01:05twitch prime
1628. 1:01:08or you can use a ad block
  1629. 1:01:11or vpn
  1630. 1:01:14here's the there's a break now
1631. 1:01:19you i think if he would pick you up in
1632. 1:01:22his car you go on her
1633. 1:01:23you know your car things of that nature
1634. 1:01:25when you guys will go out
1635. 1:01:28yeah i mean do you remember what he
  1636. 1:01:30drove
1637. 1:01:33well i know at one time he drove either
  1638. 1:01:35a 240 or 260z
1639. 1:01:37sorry i wanted to see that her
  1640. 1:01:40[Music]
1641. 1:01:42i don't know how long he drove that 240
  1642. 1:01:44or 260z for
1643. 1:01:46um and the only reason i say that is
  1644. 1:01:48because i think
1645. 1:01:49i may have a picture of it um with him
  1646. 1:01:52in it
1647. 1:01:53um what kind of car did you have back
  1648. 1:01:56then
1649. 1:01:58let's see what year or are you like one
1650. 1:02:01of those young cops that like oh i got a
  1651. 1:02:03paycheck and bought a new car
1652. 1:02:04no no i've only had like a few cars in
1653. 1:02:06my whole life so what'd you have when
1654. 1:02:08you came on the job
1655. 1:02:13okay well my first car was a 68 chevelle
1656. 1:02:16well like i said as we were looking at
  1657. 1:02:19the case and
1658. 1:02:20you know we read the notes as far as
  1659. 1:02:22from
1660. 1:02:24sherry's friends saying you you guys had
  1661. 1:02:27problems or words
1662. 1:02:28and they got heated you know the reason
  1663. 1:02:31we're asking is
1664. 1:02:32they had mentioned that an incident at
  1665. 1:02:34her work had occurred
1666. 1:02:36and they've also told us that an
1667. 1:02:37incident at her house occurred
1668. 1:02:42you know what and this is at her house
1669. 1:02:44during the period of time that they're
  1670. 1:02:46married
1671. 1:02:49that's just not sounding familiar at all
  1672. 1:02:51i mean i you know what
  1673. 1:02:52i that's just not
1674. 1:02:56again if someone says that i was at her
1675. 1:02:58house and i had an incident with her
  1676. 1:03:01you know i that just doesn't sound i i i
1677. 1:03:04you know was john there did john say
  1678. 1:03:06this happened because
  1679. 1:03:07and other people were there i just i
  1680. 1:03:10don't recall
1681. 1:03:11i mean it just doesn't sound you know
1682. 1:03:13familiar and this is an incident where
1683. 1:03:16you showed up you weren't supposed to
  1684. 1:03:18show up
1685. 1:03:19and things got heated at his house
  1686. 1:03:26that i you know i that just doesn't
  1687. 1:03:29sound familiar i mean
1688. 1:03:31i you know it's not sounding familiar
1689. 1:03:34not at all no you're saying not familiar
  1690. 1:03:36because it's just don't you remember
1691. 1:03:38or just you know what i would have then
  1692. 1:03:40i'd have to say i don't remember
  1693. 1:03:41because i don't remember i knew that
  1694. 1:03:43doesn't sound familiar i
1695. 1:03:45i mean would you remember something like
1696. 1:03:47that in your life if well i would think
1697. 1:03:49what sort of drama involving you know
1698. 1:03:51the other woman type of thing did you
  1699. 1:03:53fight with her
1700. 1:03:55you mean like we fought yeah did you
1701. 1:03:56ever duke it out with her
  1702. 1:03:58no i don't think so i mean you'd
  1703. 1:04:00remember that i don't
  1704. 1:04:01think so
  1705. 1:04:05what the [ __ ] dude you don't remember a
  1706. 1:04:08[ __ ]
1707. 1:04:09fight that you may or may not have had
1708. 1:04:10like oh it's over dude it is
1709. 1:04:13so over dude that is the gg
1710. 1:04:16no re baby let's go that right that
  1711. 1:04:18would be pretty
1712. 1:04:19yeah i would think so pretty specific
  1713. 1:04:22yeah like i said i mean obviously
1714. 1:04:26i you know i mean it just doesn't sound
  1715. 1:04:28familiar
1716. 1:04:30i mean i mean what are they saying so i
1717. 1:04:32i fought with her so
1718. 1:04:34so now i mean i get getting the jump
1719. 1:04:37the leap do you remember every fight
  1720. 1:04:39from 20 years ago
  1721. 1:04:41uh a fight with a a person who then
1722. 1:04:44ended up dying 20 years ago a fight with
  1723. 1:04:47a person who
1724. 1:04:48like i mean even if we don't assume that
  1725. 1:04:51she [ __ ] murdered
1726. 1:04:53uh her person this person
  1727. 1:04:56if if we're talking about a fight that
  1728. 1:04:59she had
1729. 1:05:00with a dude that she was in contact with
  1730. 1:05:02then yes
1731. 1:05:04yes i would expect her to remember the
  1732. 1:05:06fight
1733. 1:05:08especially because uh she literally
1734. 1:05:11remembers so many other details and also
1735. 1:05:15has been routinely lying and slowly
1736. 1:05:18unwinding about all of the other details
  1737. 1:05:20that she actually does
1738. 1:05:22uh later on admit to
  1739. 1:05:28excuse me i haven't eaten um they're
1740. 1:05:30saying okay i fought with her so i must
  1741. 1:05:32have killed her
1742. 1:05:33this is known in psychology as reductio
1743. 1:05:35ad absurdum or appeal to extremes
1744. 1:05:38it's a form of argument that attempts to
1745. 1:05:40disprove a statement by showing that it
1746. 1:05:42leads to an absurd or impractical
  1747. 1:05:43conclusion
  1748. 1:05:44i mean come on i mean that's i mean or
  1749. 1:05:47or
  1750. 1:05:48what we call a self report
  1751. 1:06:00that's what we call it a [ __ ] self
  1752. 1:06:02report
1753. 1:06:03i mean she literally just said it she
1754. 1:06:05said would you lock her up this is the
  1755. 1:06:06fifth time i'm saying
1756. 1:06:08that uh she should be handcuffed slap
  1757. 1:06:11the cops on her
1758. 1:06:13i don't even know who these people are i
1759. 1:06:14i can't even say i met any of these
  1760. 1:06:16people i mean that's it's insane
1761. 1:06:18would it be something you would remember
  1762. 1:06:19i mean because it's i don't know if any
  1763. 1:06:21other
1764. 1:06:22intense incidents in your life that have
  1765. 1:06:24occurred i mean you'd recall those right
  1766. 1:06:26i mean
1767. 1:06:27like a useful force at work or car crash
  1768. 1:06:30something you're involved in you'd be
  1769. 1:06:31like yeah
  1770. 1:06:32you would think i would remember i mean
1771. 1:06:34i would think if it was something that
  1772. 1:06:35crazy
  1773. 1:06:36i mean i i can't say you say how many
1774. 1:06:38fights have you gotten into you know
1775. 1:06:40in your life you know i mean a few at
  1776. 1:06:44work
1777. 1:06:44well fights at work are kind of
1778. 1:06:46different because we've all had uses of
  1779. 1:06:47force or whatever but
1780. 1:06:48i didn't even have even a lot of those
  1781. 1:06:50right but you know if you're if you're
  1782. 1:06:51actually you know
1783. 1:06:52i mean i played like if dan and i got
1784. 1:06:54mad at each other and we threw blows in
  1785. 1:06:56the squad room i mean 20 years later
1786. 1:06:57i would remember it i mean i would think
  1787. 1:06:59i would remember it but that's that's
  1788. 1:07:01what i'm saying that's not sounding
  1789. 1:07:02familiar to me
1790. 1:07:03at all i'm looking at the notes and
1791. 1:07:06these people are kind of
1792. 1:07:08i mean they're pointing the finger at
  1793. 1:07:09you well and
1794. 1:07:12i mean that's not ringing a bell to me
  1795. 1:07:15so you know i don't know you know
  1796. 1:07:18that's i i mean she is a cop technically
1797. 1:07:22she could be whooping ass
1798. 1:07:23all the time you know what i'm saying
1799. 1:07:29like she could constantly be getting in
  1800. 1:07:32the [ __ ] fights and [ __ ] you know
1801. 1:07:35i don't know what to tell you i mean
1802. 1:07:36that just sounds crazy to me yeah so you
1803. 1:07:38offhand you don't recall ever going into
  1804. 1:07:40her house and having
1805. 1:07:42words and physically you know
1806. 1:07:45no attacking her her attacking you no
  1807. 1:07:48nothing like that no i mean that's no
1808. 1:07:51no no not at all okay
1809. 1:07:57well on some of the uh on this case
1810. 1:08:00you know this is occurred in 86
1811. 1:08:03right detectives processed the scene
  1812. 1:08:06things of that nature
1813. 1:08:09they did fingerprints and all that stuff
1814. 1:08:11you know well you know the standard
  1815. 1:08:12stuff you've
1816. 1:08:13been doing this longer than i have uh
  1817. 1:08:15well about that
  1818. 1:08:17i got 26 years on going on 26 19 so
1819. 1:08:22but you know as they processed
1820. 1:08:25everything uh they did the best they
1821. 1:08:26could at that time and they looked at a
  1822. 1:08:28lot of a lot of people
1823. 1:08:29different things in this case and you're
1824. 1:08:31right i mean if you guys are claiming
  1825. 1:08:32that i'm a suspect then
  1826. 1:08:34you know i i got a problem with you know
  1827. 1:08:36with that okay
  1828. 1:08:37okay so you know if you're
1829. 1:08:40if you're doing this as an interrogation
  1830. 1:08:42you're saying hey i'm a suspect well
1831. 1:08:44now i got a problem with you know now
1832. 1:08:46you're accusing me of this
1833. 1:08:47oh you do have a problem yes one hour
  1834. 1:08:51and five minutes boys
1835. 1:08:54it took her an hour and five minutes
  1836. 1:08:58of literally spilling the [ __ ]
  1837. 1:09:02tea dude
1838. 1:09:04god damn dude it is like
1839. 1:09:08did they ever find a single stolen piece
  1840. 1:09:10of art
1841. 1:09:11in the state of california
  1842. 1:09:14during her [ __ ] tenure as an art
  1843. 1:09:18detective god
1844. 1:09:20damn there is no shot
  1845. 1:09:25like
1846. 1:09:32there is zero percent chance that this
  1847. 1:09:34person found
  1848. 1:09:35a single [ __ ] piece of stolen art
  1849. 1:09:37recovered it
1850. 1:09:45doesn't seem very bright checks out that
  1851. 1:09:47she's a cop
1852. 1:09:50there's no such thing as an art
  1853. 1:09:51detective no i what do you mean there's
1854. 1:09:53no such thing as an art detective she
  1855. 1:09:55literally
  1856. 1:09:57she was a detective who
  1857. 1:10:00worked on uh stolen art look at the [ __ ]
1858. 1:10:04what are you talking about thanks mom
1859. 1:10:14thank you mom got my mom to make the
  1860. 1:10:17chicken this time
  1861. 1:10:18well i mean it's the chicken that i
  1862. 1:10:19prepared and stuff but
1863. 1:10:21i've been getting her to at least cook
  1864. 1:10:23it up
1865. 1:10:25so appreciate mom but also at the same
  1866. 1:10:29time
1867. 1:10:30you know appreciate that i'm uh not
1868. 1:10:33i don't want to even walk away from this
  1869. 1:10:35is that what you're is that what you're
  1870. 1:10:37saying
1871. 1:10:38we're trying to figure out what happened
  1872. 1:10:39stephanie uh
  1873. 1:10:41well i'm i was you know i'm just saying
1874. 1:10:45you know do i need to get a lawyer if
  1875. 1:10:47you're accusing me of i mean
1876. 1:10:48you know you don't have to i mean you
  1877. 1:10:50know i'm just you're here of your own
  1878. 1:10:51free will i mean
1879. 1:10:52i know but you know you're not under
1880. 1:10:54arrest you can walk out you can leave
  1881. 1:10:55whenever you like
1882. 1:10:56well you know i'm trying to give you
1883. 1:10:59some background of you know
1884. 1:11:00how i knew him and now you're telling me
  1885. 1:11:02that some
1886. 1:11:03somebody's saying that we had this bro
1887. 1:11:05she just got she mad that she got
  1888. 1:11:07got dude
1889. 1:11:12this big old fight and i don't even know
  1890. 1:11:14what you're talking about um
1891. 1:11:16you know and i don't want to you know
1892. 1:11:17get in trouble for something that i
  1893. 1:11:19didn't even do
  1894. 1:11:20or you're saying i did something okay
1895. 1:11:23we understand i mean how would you guys
1896. 1:11:25like it if the tables were turned on you
  1897. 1:11:27i understand no um oh that's what we're
  1898. 1:11:29telling you i mean you're free to go
1899. 1:11:30whenever you want if if this makes you
1900. 1:11:32uncomfortable and you want to get it
  1901. 1:11:33now you're starting to make me
  1902. 1:11:34uncomfortable the thing is i mean
1903. 1:11:37detectives did what they could at that
1904. 1:11:38time on the crime scene okay
  1905. 1:11:40and the burglary thing you're talking
1906. 1:11:41about that is an angle that they looked
  1907. 1:11:42at
1908. 1:11:43i go but now we're looking at everything
1909. 1:11:45else on the case because nobody was ever
  1910. 1:11:47arrested on the case
  1911. 1:11:48i i don't know that or not
1912. 1:11:53i don't know that or not now what we'd
  1913. 1:11:56like to do is
1914. 1:11:58obviously you know about all the dna
1915. 1:11:59stuff and things of the nature that you
  1916. 1:12:01know
1917. 1:12:01gets done on cases nowadays you know if
1918. 1:12:04we asked you for a dna swab would you be
1919. 1:12:06willing to give us one
  1920. 1:12:07maybe oh what the [ __ ] even is over
1921. 1:12:12because now now now just because now i'm
  1922. 1:12:15thinking i probably
1923. 1:12:16need to talk to a lawyer okay i mean
1924. 1:12:20oh i i know how this stuff works okay
  1925. 1:12:22don't get me wrong you're right i have
  1926. 1:12:23been doing this a long time
  1927. 1:12:24and i wish i had been recording this
1928. 1:12:26because because now it sounds like
  1929. 1:12:28you know there's you know you're selling
  1930. 1:12:31these people saying i'm
1931. 1:12:32fighting with her and now it sounds like
1932. 1:12:34you're trying to you know
1933. 1:12:36i've been doing this okay
1934. 1:12:39now i understand why they actually film
  1935. 1:12:41this and it doesn't matter because it's
1936. 1:12:43negligible you can't use this in court
1937. 1:12:46i don't think you can use any of this in
1938. 1:12:48court but it doesn't even matter because
  1939. 1:12:50they have
1940. 1:12:51enough even without the testimony oh
  1941. 1:12:54they did
  1942. 1:12:56wait what the [ __ ] you can use that in
1943. 1:12:57court i thought they said in the
1944. 1:12:59beginning that you can't use it in court
  1945. 1:13:10because it's in the interrogation room
  1946. 1:13:12and there's like a surveillance camera
  1947. 1:13:14in there
  1948. 1:13:15or there's an assumption that there
1949. 1:13:16should be a surveillance camera in there
  1950. 1:13:29that's [ __ ] up that's actually
  1951. 1:13:33[ __ ] up
  1952. 1:13:38damn her [ __ ] lawyers were dog [ __ ]
  1953. 1:13:40dude
1954. 1:13:41anyway the point i was gonna make is
  1955. 1:13:45it doesn't even matter because um
1956. 1:13:48dna is what uh inevitably got her i
  1957. 1:13:51think
1958. 1:13:52and also the reason why this is a cold
1959. 1:13:54case that they like re uh resurfaced
1960. 1:13:56because uh there was like new and for
1961. 1:13:58new technology available to just like go
  1962. 1:14:00through with the dna
1963. 1:14:02and also when they have her dna
1964. 1:14:05there's enough evidence to request her
  1965. 1:14:09dna
  1966. 1:14:12because there's enough evidence to
1967. 1:14:14request her dna because like
1968. 1:14:17she's uh what do you call it she's like
1969. 1:14:20already had uh other testimony from like
  1970. 1:14:23other witnesses and [ __ ] about her
  1971. 1:14:25relationship
  1972. 1:14:26like there's a motive there it's a long
  1973. 1:14:27time yeah okay
1974. 1:14:29and and now it almost sounds like you're
1975. 1:14:30trying to pin something on me now
1976. 1:14:32i got that sense i'm not running an ad i
1977. 1:14:34already ran an ad cases and you know it
  1978. 1:14:35as well as i do
1979. 1:14:36our job is to identify and eliminate i
  1980. 1:14:38can't believe this
1981. 1:14:39so if we ask you to a point give us a
  1982. 1:14:42dna sample
1983. 1:14:43a bugle swab so we can identify or
  1984. 1:14:46eliminate you
1985. 1:14:47you should be willing to do that maybe
  1986. 1:14:50because i know this i i i that's what
  1987. 1:14:53we're at to i mean
1988. 1:14:54because right now from looking at the
  1989. 1:14:57evidence it's
1990. 1:14:58you know it's possible we may have some
  1991. 1:15:00dna at the location
1992. 1:15:01that's great and we're going to do what
1993. 1:15:04we can to try to put this thing together
1994. 1:15:07and your name's in the book these people
  1995. 1:15:10are pointing at you
  1996. 1:15:11for whatever reason i don't know why
  1997. 1:15:13that's just crazy i mean that's just
  1998. 1:15:15that's absolutely crazy
1999. 1:15:16and it would be irresponsible on our
2000. 1:15:19part not to look at it
2001. 1:15:20i know you guys have to do your job and
2002. 1:15:22i guess someone have to contact somebody
  2003. 1:15:24so that's fair i mean uh because i know
  2004. 1:15:27how this stuff works i mean
  2005. 1:15:28i i i i just can't believe it
  2006. 1:15:32that's i mean we understand that i mean
2007. 1:15:34i know how this stuff works i just can't
  2008. 1:15:35believe i got [ __ ] duped despite
  2009. 1:15:37knowing
2010. 1:15:38how this stuff works we were in your
2011. 1:15:39position i mean we would feel the same
  2012. 1:15:41way
  2013. 1:15:42i just can't even believe it i mean it's
  2014. 1:15:44just
  2015. 1:15:46i mean i'm shocked i'm really shocked
2016. 1:15:48that somebody would be blame saying that
  2017. 1:15:50i did this i mean
2018. 1:15:50we had a fight so i went and killed her
2019. 1:15:52i mean come on well
  2020. 1:15:54that's okay
2021. 1:15:57all right well thanks for giving me the
  2022. 1:15:58courage
2023. 1:16:00thanks for your time thank you
2024. 1:16:04damn she even thanked him for it little
2025. 1:16:06does she know dude all right
  2026. 1:16:32this is absolutely crazy let's see
  2027. 1:16:37what okay
  2028. 1:16:41why is he back
2029. 1:16:49oh my god they arrested her out of the
  2030. 1:16:51door
2031. 1:16:53okay stephanie you know you have the
2032. 1:16:56right to remain silent do you understand
  2033. 1:16:58this is okay
2034. 1:17:04oh my god this video was the best
2035. 1:17:07dude i literally thought that they would
  2036. 1:17:11like i don't know
2037. 1:17:12gather some more evidence or something
2038. 1:17:14before they like called her back in
  2039. 1:17:19yo that's [ __ ]
2040. 1:17:22crazy they said you're free to go psych

2044. 1:17:38have fun anything you say may be used
2045. 1:17:41against you in court do you understand
2046. 1:17:42yes you have the right to the presence
2047. 1:17:44of an attorney before and during any
  2048. 1:17:45questioning do you understand
2049. 1:17:46yes if you cannot afford an attorney you
2050. 1:17:48want to be appointed for you free of
2051. 1:17:50charge before any questioning if you
  2052. 1:17:51want
2053. 1:17:52do you understand yes do you want to
2054. 1:17:54talk to us right now no

2059. 1:18:08we are back on the record in people
  2060. 1:18:10versus
2061. 1:18:12lazarus shortly before noon the
2062. 1:18:16jury announced they have a verdict we
2063. 1:18:18will take the verdict this time
2064. 1:18:19people of the state of california versus
  2065. 1:18:22stephanie
2066. 1:18:22eileen lazarus case number ba
  2067. 1:18:27357423 we the jury
2068. 1:18:29and above entitled action find the
  2069. 1:18:31defendant stephanie
2070. 1:18:32eileen lazarus guilty of the crime of
  2071. 1:18:35murder of sherry rasmussen
2072. 1:18:37in violation of penal code section 187
2073. 1:18:40a a felony as charging count one of the
  2074. 1:18:43information
2075. 1:18:44i mean automatic guilty when your name
2076. 1:18:47is lazarus by the way
2077. 1:18:49i'm just saying like her family kind of
2078. 1:18:51[ __ ] her with that one like if your
  2079. 1:18:54name is
  2080. 1:18:55[ __ ] get their get the last
2081. 1:18:56name lazarus and then don't do murder
  2082. 1:18:58that's
2083. 1:18:59weirder than than the other way around
  2084. 1:19:02you know what i mean that's just like
  2085. 1:19:03you have a villain name
2086. 1:19:07yes my name is hassan mafisto
  2087. 1:19:10like yeah i'm gonna [ __ ] do a murder
  2088. 1:19:12like i am [ __ ]
  2089. 1:19:13sorry that's just i have a murderer name
2090. 1:19:18we further find the murder was of the
  2091. 1:19:19first degree
  2092. 1:19:24your honor i'm john rutten
2093. 1:19:28thank you for the opportunity to speak
  2094. 1:19:30during this hearing
2095. 1:19:32there are really no words that can
2096. 1:19:34describe the loss of sherry
2097. 1:19:36and the whole of the you guys are so
  2098. 1:19:38stupid every time i [ __ ] say
  2099. 1:19:40anything you're like ooh fbi hassan
2100. 1:19:44monka w you said you would do a murder
2101. 1:19:48this experience so it makes no sense to
2102. 1:19:51talk very long it suffices to say that
  2103. 1:19:53the rasmus and family
  2104. 1:19:55my family and stephanie's family have
2105. 1:19:58been thrust into a bizarre world of
  2106. 1:20:00disbelief and indescribable sadness
  2107. 1:20:03sherry rasmussen had a profound impact
  2108. 1:20:06on so many people
2109. 1:20:12i was proud that she agreed to be my
  2110. 1:20:13wife
2111. 1:20:15it was impossible not to notice sherry
  2112. 1:20:17when she entered a room
2113. 1:20:19wait is this guy kind of guilty too or
  2114. 1:20:21like
  2115. 1:20:23is wait didn't he [ __ ] have sex with
  2116. 1:20:26her after this
2117. 1:20:28to me her physical presence was
  2118. 1:20:29startling i can clearly remember
2119. 1:20:32the first moment i laid eyes on her
  2120. 1:20:34sherry rasmussen was a physical presence
2121. 1:20:36and my heart still races when i look at
  2122. 1:20:38pictures of her
2123. 1:20:39but sherry was extraordinary more for
2124. 1:20:41who she was than the way she looked oh
  2125. 1:20:43my god that's
  2126. 1:20:44so much worse wait
2127. 1:20:47he cheated on uh he cheated on his wife
  2128. 1:20:50with her
  2129. 1:20:51she [ __ ] murdered his wife he didn't
  2130. 1:20:54know this entire time
2131. 1:20:56and then literally went back to dating
  2132. 1:20:58her her wife's murderer
2133. 1:21:02that's crazy dude is that is that what
  2134. 1:21:04happened
  2135. 1:21:08like after this [ __ ] psycho murdered
  2136. 1:21:12her
  2137. 1:21:14his wife she [ __ ] dated him
2138. 1:21:18i wonder if he actually didn't know he
  2139. 1:21:19seems kind of
2140. 1:21:22she was a hard worker you never fear
  2141. 1:21:24[ __ ] someone question marks the
  2142. 1:21:26chatter that's called rape
  2143. 1:21:27chatter it's called having sex under
2144. 1:21:30uh you know the threat of violence
  2145. 1:21:34just letting you know that's not a thing
  2146. 1:21:36fear [ __ ] is not a thing
  2147. 1:21:37it's called rape a consummate
  2148. 1:21:39professional a leader
2149. 1:21:41a diplomat forgiving tough and a kid at
  2150. 1:21:44heart
2151. 1:21:45cherry's loss the way she died and the
  2152. 1:21:47trial 25 years after her death
2153. 1:21:49has had a profound impact on many many
  2154. 1:21:52others
2155. 1:21:54the effects are broad and span a
2156. 1:21:55generation creating pain for those whose
2157. 1:21:58lives should have never been touched by
  2158. 1:21:59this tragic event
2159. 1:22:01again words are feeble tools for
  2160. 1:22:03describing these impacts
2161. 1:22:05but there are so many moments and so
  2162. 1:22:06very many tears
  2163. 1:22:08and the fact that sherry's death
2164. 1:22:09occurred because she met and married me
2165. 1:22:12brings me to my knees stephanie lazarus
2166. 1:22:14was sentenced to 27 years to life
2167. 1:22:17for the murder of sherry rasmussen she
2168. 1:22:19is currently being held inside the
