- 0:57talking about it the world's largest
- 1:00rainforest the Amazon is crucial to any
- 1:06climate change solution for its capacity
- 1:10to sequester carbon for its biodiversity
- 1:13for its freshwater for the air we
- 1:18breathe for our morality and it is on
- 1:23fire when a room in your house is on
- 1:27fire you don't say there's a fire in a
- 1:30room in my house you say my house is on
- 1:32fire and we only have one house sorry
- 1:50greed is winning the battle for the
- 1:53Amazon and what we've done to preserve
- 1:56the Amazon what we've worked so hard for
- 1:59is being purposefully undone we need to
- 2:05protect what we have we need to restore
- 2:10what we have lost and we need to defund
- 2:13the mechanisms the perverse tax
- 2:16subsidies the lending policies and the
- 2:19institutional investments that fuel
- 2:22deforestation it's understood that the
- 2:26protection
- 2:31it is understood that the protection and
- 2:34preservation of tropical forests can
- 2:37achieve at least 30% of the emissions
- 2:41reductions we need to protect the planet
- 2:47on behalf my goodness I'm so sorry in
- 2:55the movies we get to do it over and
- 3:05without the Amazon without securing the
- 3:08largest standing tropical forests in the
- 3:10world we cannot achieve a climate
- 3:13solution and nothing else we do will
- 3:17matter thanks to the Leticia pact a
- 3:22framework for recognizing and protecting
- 3:23the valuable forest and its peoples
- 3:27signed by the governments of Guyana
- 3:30Suriname Colombia Ecuador Peru Bolivia
- 3:34and Brazil there is a way forward Thank
- 3:40You president Duque for your leadership
- 3:44in for in formulating the pact but this
- 3:49initiative this pact must have funding
- 3:51it must have teeth
- 3:53it must have legislative legitimacy
- 3:58Conservation International has been
- 4:00working in Amazon Amazonia for over 30
- 4:03years and we are here now to stand with
- 4:07you to put funding to put teeth in this
- 4:12ambition president McCrone we're
- 4:16sincerely grateful to the French

- 4:20investing in this effort with a 100
- 4:23million dollar contribution thank you

- 4:39on behalf of Conservation International
- 4:42I'm honored to announce that we are
- 4:44committing an additional 220 million
- 4:46dollars in funding but we can't do it
- 4:55alone we need all the help that we can
- 4:57get this money must go directly to
- 5:01indigenous people and civil society the
- 5:07people on the front lines the people on
- 5:10the ground the people with their feet in
- 5:12the mud our efforts will have effect we
- 5:17will make great progress and we are not
- 5:21alone there's a new force of nature at
- 5:25hand stirring all over the world they
- 5:29are the young people whom frankly we
- 5:32have failed who are angry who are
- 5:36organized who are capable of making a
- 5:40difference they are a moral army and the
- 5:46most important thing that we can do for
- 5:48them is to get the hell out of their way
