  13. 0:20midterms.
  14. 0:22I know.
  15. 0:26>> [screaming]
  16. 0:27>> But it's closing arguments time. And
  17. 0:29today, the president took to the Lincoln
  18. 0:32Memorial Reflecting Pool
  19. 0:35TO MAKE HIS FINAL CASE TO THE VOTERS.
  20. 0:38>> I've kept every single promise I made
  21. 0:41except far more.
  22. 0:42I've actually kept far more promises
  23. 0:45than I made.
  24. 0:51>> [laughter]
  25. 0:57>> That is not possible.
  26. 1:02Dementia-ly, in in this realm,
  27. 1:05uh that that that. Now, dementia-ly,
  28. 1:07yes, that
  29. 1:09that may be possible, BUT NOT
  30. 1:11DEMENTIA-LY.
  31. 1:12DEMENTIA-LY.
  32. 1:13BUT YOU KNOW WHAT?
  33. 1:15I'M SORRY, IN THE SHADOW of the Lincoln
  34. 1:16Memorial,
  35. 1:18with the echoes of Dr. King's I Have a
  36. 1:20Dream speech,
  37. 1:21please lay out for the American people
  38. 1:24what you think is most important for
  39. 1:26them to know. And if you could, include
  40. 1:28visual aids. That
  41. 1:29That
  42. 1:31That would be so appreciated.
  43. 1:34>> Today, I'm thrilled to announce the
  44. 1:36official opening of the Lincoln
  45. 1:39Memorial Reflecting Pool. Now, we're
  46. 1:42giving Siri in the world. It's almost
  47. 1:44as tall as two Empire State Buildings
  48. 1:47laid on their side. We resurfaced the
  49. 1:48bottom and a
  50. 1:50beautiful dark blue, very dark blue.
  51. 1:53They call it American flag blue, but
  52. 1:55it's very dark. This is a
  53. 1:56It's painted blue for purposes of It was
  54. 1:58all rusted. we fixed the granite, we
  55. 2:01recaulked it.
  56. 2:02>> I mean, they've had
  57. 2:02>> All of this has been a year here where
  58. 2:04you couldn't see any water. It was just
  59. 2:05algae.
  60. 2:07And it had a bad aroma.
  61. 2:08>> To put it mildly, a lot of massive piece
  62. 2:11of
  63. 2:12uh
  64. 2:13piece of pool.
  65. 2:17>> [laughter]
  66. 2:23[laughter]
  67. 2:26>> Good night, everybody.
  68. 2:27That's just
  69. 2:28I'm just
  70. 2:29I don't even
  71. 2:30>> [applause]
  72. 2:31>> I don't even know what to say. I just TO
  73. 2:33BE I JUST WANT TO BE GOOD. THAT IS NOT
  74. 2:34AI. THAT WAS NOT ARTIFICIAL INTEL That
  75. 2:37was not artificial intel. Just a really,
  76. 2:38I think you would agree, any kind of
  77. 2:39intelligence. That was That was the
  78. 2:41president OF THE UNITED STATES ON THE
  79. 2:43DAY BEFORE THE MIDTERMS.
  80. 2:46Choosing to make a speech at the
  81. 2:48reflecting pool.
  82. 2:51TO TALK ABOUT THE REFLECTING POOL.
  83. 2:55NO SYMBOLISM. NO METAPHORS. JUST
  84. 2:57STRAIGHT-UP
  85. 2:59POOL MAINTENANCE.
  86. 3:02>> [laughter]
  87. 3:03>> THAT WAS DONALD TRUMP'S
  88. 3:05I had it cleaned speech.
  89. 3:08If you will. I
  90. 3:09>> [cheering]
  91. 3:10>> I
  92. 3:11>> [applause]
  93. 3:17[laughter]
  94. 3:18>> I HAVE BEEN TO THE REFLECTING POOL.
  95. 3:22But with the president's priorities so
  96. 3:23badly misplaced, it is no wonder what
  97. 3:26the expectation is for tomorrow.
  98. 3:29>> An electoral bloodbath. There is the
  99. 3:31blue wave coming.
  100. 3:32>> It's going to be a deluge.
  101. 3:34>> A blue tsunami.
  102. 3:35>> Blue bomb cyclone. Because Latino
  103. 3:38voters, this is going to be a blue wave
  104. 3:42and a brown tsunami.
  105. 3:47>> [laughter]
  106. 3:52[laughter]
  107. 3:57[laughter]
  108. 3:58>> Is she allowed to say that?
  109. 4:02>> [laughter]
  110. 4:05>> And isn't a brown tsunami
  111. 4:08what ruined the reflecting pool in the
  112. 4:10house?
  113. 4:12Or is it No, no, no, wait.
  114. 4:15Regardless,
  115. 4:16the Democrats appear in position for a
  116. 4:20wave election. Not just the house, even
  117. 4:22the Senate, as long as the remaining
  118. 4:25couple of days before the election are
  119. 4:27bombshell-less, drama-free,
  120. 4:30non-earthquakey.
  121. 4:33>> A bombshell out of Michigan.
  122. 4:35>> A stunning last-minute shakeup.
  123. 4:38>> earthquake in Michigan's Senate race.
  124. 4:40>> Drama in Michigan.
  125. 4:42>> Drama
  126. 4:44in Michigan?
  127. 4:46Well, frost my flakes.
  128. 4:50I mean, of course, we all knew there was
  129. 4:52drama in Michigan when Senate candidate
  130. 4:54Abdul El-Sayed defeated Haley Stevens in
  131. 4:57a contentious primary for the Democratic
  132. 4:58nomination. But Stevens
  133. 5:01has always been very clear as to their
  134. 5:03shared goal of defeating Republican
  135. 5:06Senate candidate Mike Rogers.
  136. 5:08>> Mike Rogers has shown that he's just
  137. 5:11going to go along with whatever Donald
  138. 5:13Trump does. He's not going to speak out
  139. 5:15when erratic tariffs are impacting our
  140. 5:18auto industry.
  141. 5:19>> He wants to just continue on,
  142. 5:22rubber-stamp Trump.
  143. 5:23>> The fight now is Abdul beating Rogers
  144. 5:28because Rogers is a nightmare.
  145. 5:34>> [laughter]
  146. 5:34>> Can I tell you something?
  147. 5:37There is nothing
  148. 5:39that sounds bad
  149. 5:41in a Michigan accent.
  150. 5:42>> [laughter]
  151. 5:44>> So, what's the problem? What's the
  152. 5:45bombshell?
  153. 5:46>> I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the
  154. 5:49United States Senate today.
  155. 5:57>> Is her car in a ditch?
  156. 6:02>> [laughter]
  157. 6:05>> Is she endorsing Mike Rogers after
  158. 6:06getting in a car accident?
  159. 6:10Real quick, before I lose consciousness,
  160. 6:12I am endorsing the nightmare.
  161. 6:17The happened?
  162. 6:19This is like the most diabolical episode
  163. 6:21of Fargo I've ever seen.
  164. 6:27What could have driven
  165. 6:29somewhat erratically
  166. 6:34>> [laughter]
  167. 6:36>> I don't know what happened.
  168. 6:39What could have driven Haley STEVENS
  169. 6:40INTO THE ARMS OF THE ROGERS CAMPAIGN?
  170. 6:43>> But Abdul made very clear
  171. 6:45that I was not welcome
  172. 6:48in his campaign. That he didn't need me
  173. 6:50there, that he didn't want me there. I
  174. 6:51understand that. I did endorse the
  175. 6:53Democratic nominee, and he chose to
  176. 6:55close his campaign by saying I wasn't
  177. 6:58welcome.
  178. 6:59I've never been invited to a campaign
  179. 7:00event. That's fine, you know, he's busy.
  180. 7:02He's run all around. I've had primaries
  181. 7:04before myself. It's not about that.
  182. 7:10>> It does sound like it's about that. I I
  183. 7:13I have to say.
  184. 7:15But that says why you're mad at Abdul,
  185. 7:18but not why you're for
  186. 7:21Rogers. Rogers is
  187. 7:24uh hold on, let me find the word.
  188. 7:26A nightmare.
  189. 7:30Who is against every principle you've
  190. 7:31worked for your entire career?
  191. 7:36I mean, at least say you were visited by
  192. 7:37three ghosts who convinced you
  193. 7:41that it turns out people don't need
  194. 7:42health insurance.
  195. 7:44This can't really be about getting your
  196. 7:47feelings hurt.
  197. 7:48>> You wanted to be at a public event with
  198. 7:51him up until some point, I guess,
  199. 7:54yesterday. And I it's just an
  200. 7:56interesting change, and I think a lot of
  201. 7:58people are curious
  202. 8:02to try to understand that.
  203. 8:08>> [laughter]
  204. 8:09>> Was that a question, Anderson? Or or
  205. 8:11>> Uh no, I wanted to see if you wanted to
  206. 8:13fill in the silence, but you don't.
  207. 8:14>> Oh,
  208. 8:16Yeah.
  209. 8:24>> Do you see what you just did there,
  210. 8:26HALEY STEVENS? ARE YOU HAPPY WITH
  211. 8:27YOURSELF?
  212. 8:29ALL THAT SASS YOU MADE. YOU JUST TURNED
  213. 8:31ANDERSON COOPER INTO ANDY COHEN. IS THAT
  214. 8:33WHAT YOU WANTED?
  215. 8:36HE DIDN'T WANT TO SASS YOU. DUDE, HE'S A
  216. 8:38NEWSMAN. HE DOESN'T WANT TO SASS YOU.
  217. 8:41You gave HIM NO CHOICE BUT TO SASS.
  218. 8:44>> [laughter]
  219. 8:45>> NOW, TO BE FAIR, THERE is a rift here.
  220. 8:48Elissa Slotkin has been very critical of
  221. 8:50Israel. And obviously, Stevens, as also
  222. 8:54some other Jewish people in Michigan, uh
  223. 8:56have been upset by that.
  224. 8:58>> I am not Jewish.
  225. 9:00>> What the
  226. 9:06>> [laughter]
  227. 9:11[laughter]
  228. 9:19>> For reals?
  229. 9:21But then
  230. 9:23why all the
  231. 9:25Michigan ads?
  232. 9:26>> Her fiance is Jewish.
  233. 9:37>> [applause]
  234. 9:38>> Oh, the fiance is Jewish.
  235. 9:41That I buy.
  236. 9:43>> [cheering]
  237. 9:44[laughter]
  238. 9:53>> The guy looks like
  239. 9:54I tried to draw Stephen Miller from
  240. 9:56memory.
  241. 9:59>> [laughter]
  242. 10:02>> BUT BY THE WAY,
  243. 10:04BY THE WAY, JUST CUZ HE'S JEWISH DOESN'T
  244. 10:06MEAN he's pro-Israel or a Zionist.
  245. 10:08Judaism is not a monolith. Supporting
  246. 10:11Netanyahu and their campaign in Gaza
  247. 10:13doesn't make you Jewish.
  248. 10:16Although, I will say this.
  249. 10:19Throwing away all of your personal and
  250. 10:22professional relationships over a
  251. 10:25perceived personal slight,
  252. 10:28that's pretty Jewish.
  253. 10:30That's We do do that. That's That's IF I
  254. 10:33MAY.
  255. 10:34>> [applause]
  256. 10:36>> THAT is pretty pretty pretty.
  257. 10:41>> [laughter]
  258. 10:42>> That's got big aunt who wasn't asked to
  259. 10:44light a candle at bar mitzvah energy.
  260. 10:48You see, in Judaism, there is reform,
  261. 10:51conservative, orthodox, and Curb Your
  262. 10:54Enthusiasm plot line.
  263. 10:56>> [cheering]
  264. 10:57>> You didn't invite ME TO THE PARTY?
  265. 10:59YOU DIDN'T INVITE ME TO THE PARTY?
  266. 11:04WELL, THEN I AM NOW FOR DEPORTATION.
  267. 11:06DEPORTATION!
  268. 11:08I thank deport. Deport!
  269. 11:11>> [cheering]
  270. 11:12>> Man,
  271. 11:13this split between Haley and Abdul, it
  272. 11:16raises all sorts of uncomfortable
  273. 11:18questions about the ability for one
  274. 11:21issue to split a nascent Democratic
  275. 11:24coalition.
  276. 11:25It even brings up this country's
  277. 11:27relationship with Israel and what
  278. 11:28emphasis our leaders should be placing
  279. 11:31on their safety and how to balance
  280. 11:33concerns for the tragedy for
  281. 11:35Palestinians with real concerns about
  282. 11:38anti-Semitism. These are real, nuanced,
  283. 11:41complex issues. I I I
  284. 11:42I wonder how our news media will discuss
  285. 11:45them.
  286. 11:46>> The big question now, how are voters
  287. 11:48going to react and will it impact the
  288. 11:49polls?
  289. 11:50>> No!
  290. 11:52All right, the polls.
  291. 11:55The polls.
  292. 11:58No matter how hard you try, you cannot
  293. 12:02keep our news media off the poll.
  294. 12:09>> [laughter]
  295. 12:10>> say, "Oh, we're working our way through
  296. 12:12THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE." NO!
  297. 12:15>> [laughter]
  298. 12:16>> BEING ON THE POLL IS A CHOICE.
  299. 12:22>> [laughter]
  300. 12:22>> And yes, with the Steven story, as with
  301. 12:24every story, nuance and complexity
  302. 12:26matter less than what do the numbers
  303. 12:28say?
  304. 12:30Because they know
  305. 12:32that that is what our little reptilian
  306. 12:34brains are craving. Immigration,
  307. 12:37tariffs, Iran.
  308. 12:40We don't care. WHAT'S THE SCORE?
  309. 12:43>> THESE NUMBERS are absolutely staggering
  310. 12:45and very bad for Republicans.
  311. 12:47>> New polls today giving Democrats
  312. 12:48something to cheer about as we inch
  313. 12:50closer to the midterm elections.
  314. 12:51>> A new wave of polling and race ratings
  315. 12:53has Republicans in a fresh panic.
  316. 12:55>> Breaking news, seeing blue. Brand new
  317. 12:57CNN polls, brand new poll numbers.
  318. 12:59>> The Republican freakout is here.
  319. 13:01>> Woo boy, brand new polling
  320. 13:07>> [laughter]
  321. 13:14>> Oh my god, thank you.
  322. 13:17I am so sorry I flipped out at you guys.
  323. 13:20>> But here's the question.
  324. 13:22What if the polls are wrong?
  325. 13:26>> [cheering]
  326. 13:28[laughter]
  327. 13:34>> Are you kidding me right now?
  328. 13:38YOU MOTHER THE BIG POLLS, THE
  329. 13:40[screaming] WOO!
  330. 13:40>> WOO! WOO!
  331. 13:42>> YOU CAN'T SAY WOO and then boo.
  332. 13:46It's woo, it's not boo.
  333. 13:48It's not both.
  334. 13:50It's like at the end of Caddyshack when
  335. 13:51he goes, "Hey, everybody's going to get
  336. 13:52laid."
  337. 13:54Then he can't go, "But what about that
  338. 13:55herpes virus, huh? That's something."
  339. 13:57You can't do that.
  340. 13:59>> [laughter]
  341. 14:01>> But that's what they do. That's the
  342. 14:02media's little game. They prey on our
  343. 14:04emotions. We're like little rats in a
  344. 14:06maze getting that dopamine hit. We're
  345. 14:08like college kids waiting for that
  346. 14:09acceptance to come on THROUGH. COME ON,
  347. 14:11COME ON, SUNY BINGHAMTON, LET'S GO!
  348. 14:15THEY'RE THROWING up these poll numbers
  349. 14:16on ever-expanding screens. It's a giant
  350. 14:19screen. IT'S AN EVEN BIGGER SCREEN. IT'S
  351. 14:22AN EVEN BIGGER SCREEN. THEY'RE EVEN
  352. 14:24DOING BIG SCREENS THAT ARE CONTROLLED BY
  353. 14:26LITTLE SCREENS.
  354. 14:33AND THEY WOULDN'T put up speculative
  355. 14:35nonsense in IMAX.
  356. 14:38Something that large can't be wrong.
  357. 14:42Because the very presentation is a
  358. 14:44vouch.
  359. 14:45News organizations are granting these
  360. 14:48numbers credence
  361. 14:50by the very fashion-forward and
  362. 14:51relentless way in which they report on
  363. 14:53them.
  364. 14:56But every now and again
  365. 14:58in the quiet of the night
  366. 15:01when the media tire
  367. 15:04of toying with the emotional wreckage
  368. 15:06that is their audience
  369. 15:08they do tend to offer a big pharma-like
  370. 15:11disclaimer
  371. 15:13that would be nice if they made a little
  372. 15:15bigger.
  373. 15:16>> It just feels like every election I were
  374. 15:17always like, "Oh, the polls actually
  375. 15:19were kind of wrong."
  376. 15:19>> We should all distrust the polls until
  377. 15:21we get to the election.
  378. 15:23>> It's under-sampling voters.
  379. 15:24>> We've seen polls overestimate Democrats.
  380. 15:28>> A lot of people do not answer polls.
  381. 15:29>> Who responds to polls is meant to be
  382. 15:31random but it's not always random.
  383. 15:33>> Polls are just a snapshot in time. They
  384. 15:36don't tell you what's going to happen.
  385. 15:38>> They are not predictors uh of anything.
  386. 15:40>> In the corner, I see margin of error
  387. 15:42plus or minus 11.
  388. 15:45>> [laughter]
  389. 15:46>> Then why the are we LOOKING AT
  390. 15:48THEM?
  391. 15:50WHY? WHY ARE YOU SHOWING [cheering] THEM
  392. 15:52TO US? WHY are you talking about them
  393. 15:54constantly? [applause]
  394. 15:55WHY? PLUS or minus 11?
  395. 16:00In the corner? WHY ISN'T THAT THE
  396. 16:02BIGGEST NUMBER? OR BETTER YET, WHY ISN'T
  397. 16:05that the number that makes you go, "I'm
  398. 16:07not going to show this on
  399. 16:08television."?
  400. 16:10And by the way, why are they the only
  401. 16:13who get a margin of error?
  402. 16:17The rest of us don't get a margin of
  403. 16:18error.
  404. 16:19This utilities check is for $217
  405. 16:23plus or minus 11.
  406. 16:26Of course I'm having safe sex. I always
  407. 16:29use zero holes condoms.
  408. 16:32>> [cheering]
  409. 16:34[laughter]
  410. 16:37>> Plus or minus 11.
  411. 16:42For my own blood pressure, can you at
  412. 16:44least tell me which unreliable numbers I
  413. 16:47should be focusing on?
  414. 16:48>> The path to retaking the Senate might
  415. 16:51just run through Iowa.
  416. 16:53>> Fine, Iowa. All right, fine. At least
  417. 16:56that focuses it. Iowa it is.
  418. 16:58>> The path to the Senate majority very
  419. 17:00much runs through Maine.
  420. 17:09>> They're not even close.
  421. 17:13>> Okay, fine.
  422. 17:14Maine, got it.
  423. 17:16>> North Carolina could decide control of
  424. 17:18the upper chamber.
  425. 17:19>> South Carolina could decide which party
  426. 17:20[music] takes the Senate.
  427. 17:22>> Could the path to a Democratic Senate
  428. 17:24majority run through Kansas?
  429. 17:26>> If you want to focus in on one state, it
  430. 17:28is Ohio. So goes Ohio, so goes the
  431. 17:31Senate, so goes the nation.
  432. 17:33>> So goes Texas, so goes the country.
  433. 17:35>> It is all about Michigan. [music]
  434. 17:38>> And it all comes down to Alaska.
  435. 17:49>> I'm just going to go. I don't
  436. 17:52>> You f-
  437. 17:53>> [applause]
  438. 17:57>> So the Senate
  439. 17:59comes down to the states.
  440. 18:05>> [laughter]
  441. 18:06>> And you know what? Even those that pride
  442. 18:08themselves as polling skeptics cannot
  443. 18:11resist its siren song.
  444. 18:13>> This program ignores most polls most of
  445. 18:16the time.
  446. 18:17>> I have stated time and time again that I
  447. 18:19don't believe polls. I don't trust
  448. 18:22polls.
  449. 18:25>> Go on.
  450. 18:27>> Boy, the polls that the New York Times
  451. 18:29published late last night
  452. 18:31>> a shock. But, the New York Times poll is
  453. 18:33one of the gold standard polls, and
  454. 18:36today's New York Times poll
  455. 18:38of the South Carolina Senate race has
  456. 18:41shocked Republicans in South Carolina.
  457. 18:44>> Oh, okay. OH, THAT'S TRUE. THESE PEOPLE
  458. 18:46THEY DON'T EVEN BELIEVE IN POLLS. POLLS
  459. 18:48are fly-by-night. Oh, but the New York
  460. 18:49Times, gold standard. By the way, did
  461. 18:52you read the article about what the New
  462. 18:54York Times itself said about its own
  463. 18:58polls? I've got the copy right here. It
  464. 19:01sometimes comes on paper.
  465. 19:05Let's see their conclusion about their
  466. 19:07own polls, which I will
  467. 19:10be reading for real.
  468. 19:16This is WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THEIR own
  469. 19:18gold standard polls. They said their own
  470. 19:21polls could either be, and I quote, dead
  471. 19:25on
  472. 19:27or they could underestimate Democrats.
  473. 19:31Or they could underestimate
  474. 19:34Republicans.
  475. 19:36>> [cheering]
  476. 19:39>> IN OTHER WORDS, EVEN THE NEW YORK TIMES
  477. 19:40IS SAYING IT'S A POLL or it's a hat or
  478. 19:43maybe IT'S A BROOCH OR MAYBE IT'S A
  479. 19:45PTERODACTYL.
  480. 19:48>> [applause]
  481. 19:48[cheering]
  482. 19:52>> AND LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING RIGHT NOW.
  483. 19:54The only thing worse than your
  484. 19:56relentless, incessant coverage of polls
  485. 19:59is when you make it
  486. 20:03fun.
  487. 20:05It's so
  488. 20:07fun.
  489. 20:09Aren't the polls
  490. 20:12fun?
  491. 20:14>> This is the types of numbers that should
  492. 20:16absolutely be scary.
  493. 20:18>> Scary.
  494. 20:20>> As the big Buffalo Bills fan let's say,
  495. 20:23let's go. It's always a roll of the dice
  496. 20:25when it comes to these Senate races. You
  497. 20:27got to put on some shades to understand
  498. 20:30these numbers. Number one, number one.
  499. 20:32I'm talking about this baby. Yeah. Yeah,
  500. 20:34it's raining in here. It's raining.
  501. 20:36Please, please, no, no, no. Yes, there
  502. 20:39is some caution.
  503. 20:46It's not fun.
  504. 20:47It's not fun. It's not cute.
  505. 20:50I don't know if you know this, but
  506. 20:51enthusiastic is still
  507. 20:54Now, I appreciate guys like Harry Enten
  508. 20:57giving us the numbers to ease the
  509. 20:59anxiety that we all feel FROM GUYS LIKE
  510. 21:01HARRY ENTEN GIVING US THE NUMBERS.
  511. 21:04>> [laughter]
  512. 21:05>> BUT, the schizophrenic nature, the
  513. 21:07roller coaster ride, is unbearable. Here
  514. 21:09I am, 8:30 in the morning
  515. 21:11trying to just get on with my day. The
  516. 21:13Democratic lead, it is building. These
  517. 21:15are numbers that Democrats should be
  518. 21:17salivating over. Democrats very much on
  519. 21:19their way as they chase the potential
  520. 21:21electoral heaven.
  521. 21:23Wow.
  522. 21:26In a regime that began on an escalator
  523. 21:28to hell
  524. 21:31a staircase
  525. 21:33to potential electoral heaven would be
  526. 21:35most welcome.
  527. 21:37Thank you.
  528. 21:38And I'm sure when I check back in on you
  529. 21:4175 minutes later
  530. 21:44on the same day
  531. 21:46that's still the case. Hold on a second
  532. 21:49here because we've seen this dance
  533. 21:51before and it was not a dance that
  534. 21:52Democrats like when the votes were
  535. 21:54actually cast. If history holds in terms
  536. 21:56of the GOP outperforming their September
  537. 21:58polls, well, there's a very, very strong
  538. 22:00chance that Republicans hold on the
  539. 22:02United States Senate.
  540. 22:03And what the WAS THIS STAIRCASE?
  541. 22:06WITH THE HEAVEN IN THE STAIRS
  542. 22:07[screaming] AND
  543. 22:09OH, WHAT THE NUMBERS SAY? WE'RE DROPPING
  544. 22:12YOU INTO A FIELD OF ICE CREAM AND BLOW
  545. 22:14JOBS.
  546. 22:17BUT, IF HISTORY IS ANY GUIDE, both are
  547. 22:20being given by Mitch McConnell.
  548. 22:29>> [applause]
  549. 22:33[laughter]
  550. 22:38>> OH, YEAH.
  551. 22:41LOOK,
  552. 22:43IT WOULD BE ONE THING IF after months of
  553. 22:44breathless, semi-informed speculation,
  554. 22:46the polls actually turned out to be
  555. 22:47right.
  556. 22:49But if history holds,
  557. 22:51>> if you were hoping that I had landed on
  558. 22:53exactly why things went wrong, I have
  559. 22:56not.
  560. 22:56>> It just seems to me that the polling did
  561. 22:58not accurately reflect what was
  562. 23:00occurring.
  563. 23:01>> We have to be really honest in the
  564. 23:03polling profession that there were some
  565. 23:05real mistakes made in this election and
  566. 23:08and big misses.
  567. 23:09>> I was wrong.
  568. 23:10>> We were wrong.
  569. 23:11>> We were wrong. I don't have egg on my
  570. 23:13face, I have omelette.
  571. 23:15>> We've really taken the hood off
  572. 23:17uh to look at what we did. That model
  573. 23:19probably needs a complete overhaul.
  574. 23:21>> It was a big surprise.
  575. 23:22>> Nobody on
  576. 23:23>> anticipated it. No polls predicted it.
  577. 23:26No one saw it coming. How did that
  578. 23:28happen?
  579. 23:28>> Why did the polls miss by so much?
  580. 23:30>> About the only way you can hit something
  581. 23:32right on the nose is through dumb luck.
  582. 23:34>> The polls turned out to be about as
  583. 23:36reliable as a fan magazine account of a
  584. 23:38Hollywood starlet's rise to fame.
  585. 23:47>> You've been wrong since you could still
  586. 23:50smoke on the news.
  587. 23:53>> [laughter]
  588. 23:57>> Look, an election is an emotional time.
  589. 24:00The next couple of days will determine
  590. 24:01the future of our health care, our
  591. 24:02economy,
  592. 24:05and the state of our reflecting pools.
  593. 24:09The news should be soothing our nerves
  594. 24:11with information and context, not
  595. 24:13amplifying them with speculation you
  596. 24:17admit has little value.
  597. 24:20So, to the cable news media, I am
  598. 24:22begging you.
  599. 24:24Please reconsider spending so much of
  600. 24:26your valuable pre-election airtime
  601. 24:28hyping up polls that you know to be
  602. 24:30unreliable.
  603. 24:33I can't think of anything more corrosive
  604. 24:37to your viewers well-being.
  605. 24:39>> Well, forget about the polls for a
  606. 24:40second. Just look at some of the latest
  607. 24:42numbers from our partners at Calshe.
  608. 24:45>> OH MY GOD!
  609. 24:48NO, HARRY. HARRY. HAROLD. HARRY. Don't
  610. 24:52you dare.
  611. 24:53>> You could see this right here in the
  612. 24:54Calshe prediction market. Look where we
  613. 24:56were a month ago. We were at 60% chance.
  614. 24:58Now we're talking about a very nice 69
  615. 25:02>> YOU SON OF A
  616. 25:04>> [laughter]
  617. 25:07>> 69, HUH?
  618. 25:09>> [laughter]
  619. 25:11>> YOU OLD DOG!
  620. 25:15ALL RIGHT, I GUESS THAT MIGHT NOT BE SO
  621. 25:16BAD. WAIT, who's the six?
  622. 25:19No!
  623. 25:30>> [music]
