- 0:07hello
- 0:07and welcome to day 14 of lifebooks 30
- 0:10day challenge
- 0:11so happy to have you here with me today
- 0:13as we continue with the category we
- 0:15started yesterday
- 0:16your love relationship today we're going
- 0:19to do a deep dive
- 0:20we're going to take a look at one of the
- 0:21greatest challenges and one of the
- 0:23biggest opportunities in life
- 0:25creating and maintaining an
- 0:28extraordinary love relationship
- 0:30you know there's there's no deeper joy
- 0:32than when two people
- 0:33fully commit to living their lives
- 0:35together and do it successfully
- 0:37it's one of the most inspirational
- 0:39things we can experience
- 0:41now before we begin our exploration
- 0:43today i want to take just a minute to
- 0:45define
- 0:46what an extraordinary love relationship
- 0:48actually is
- 0:50my personal mentor dr nathaniel brandon
- 0:53who had an immense impact on my love
- 0:55relationship with missy
- 0:56defines romantic love as
- 0:59a passionate spiritual emotional
- 1:03sexual attachment between two people
- 1:06that reflects a high regard
- 1:08for the value of each other's person
- 1:12that's a great baseline definition for a
- 1:15romantic love relationship
- 1:17and as we begin to think about what an
- 1:19extraordinary
- 1:21romantic love relationship looks like i
- 1:23think we need to take it just a few
- 1:24steps further
- 1:26couples with an extraordinary love
- 1:29relationship
- 1:30adore each other and they don't just
- 1:33adore each other passively
- 1:35they demonstrate their adoration they
- 1:37can't help it
- 1:38adoration just comes radiating off of
- 1:40them and the way they look at each other
- 1:42and the way they talk to each other and
- 1:44the way they talk about each other
- 1:46in the way that they're affectionate to
- 1:48each other
- 1:49couples with extraordinary love
- 1:51relationships also trust each other
- 1:54they are there for each other
- 1:57no matter what goes before them they
- 1:59know that they're always on the same
- 2:01team
- 2:03couples with extraordinary love
- 2:04relationships are highly connected
- 2:07both personally and professionally which
- 2:10doesn't necessarily mean that they have
- 2:11to be business partners
- 2:12they may very well have two separate
- 2:14careers but they do not
- 2:16have two separate lives they know what's
- 2:19going on in each other's lives at a deep
- 2:21level
- 2:23couples with an extraordinary love
- 2:25relationship communicate
- 2:27honestly easily and openly
- 2:31effective communication which we're
- 2:33going to talk about a lot today
- 2:35is literally the hallmark attribute that
- 2:37separates healthy relationships
- 2:39from unhealthy relationships and finally
- 2:43couples with an extraordinary love
- 2:45relationship tend to put each other
- 2:47first
- 2:48they tend to value each other above
- 2:51everything else
- 2:52they're the single most important thing
- 2:54in each other's lives
- 2:57so an extraordinary love relationship as
- 3:00we define it in life book
- 3:01is a passionate spiritual emotional
- 3:05sexual attachment between two people
- 3:07who adore each other who trust each
- 3:10other
- 3:10who are highly connected who communicate
- 3:13effectively
- 3:14and who value each other above all else
- 3:19now it is extremely rare that you're
- 3:21ever going to see an extraordinary love
- 3:23relationship like that
- 3:24matter of fact you can go through an
- 3:25entire lifetime and never see one
- 3:28i was 30 years old before i ever saw one
- 3:31and outside of the lifebook community
- 3:32i've only ever seen two love
- 3:34relationships that fit our definition
- 3:36i've seen a bunch of them in the
- 3:38lifebook community but that's because we
- 3:39know how to do it
- 3:41you know it's it's not impossible for
- 3:42you it is a very very difficult thing
- 3:45and it's a very rare thing
- 3:46but it is possible there's a recipe for
- 3:49doing it
- 3:50and today we're going to explore what
- 3:51that recipe is
- 3:53we're going to examine how an
- 3:55extraordinary love relationship like
- 3:57that
- 3:58is created and specifically we're going
- 4:01to
- 4:01identify some strategies that you can
- 4:03use to make it happen in your own life
- 4:06okay let's begin this exploration with
- 4:09an age-old principle that you're going
- 4:10to hear more than once during the course
- 4:12of this challenge
- 4:13it's been taught by many of the greats
- 4:15of philosophy
- 4:16the greats of religion and human
- 4:18potential
- 4:19we call it the principle of habitual
- 4:21behavior
- 4:23the principle of habitual behavior says
- 4:25your habits
- 4:26shape your life and define you as a
- 4:29human being
- 4:30the dictionary defines the word habit as
- 4:33an
- 4:33automatic pattern of behavior which is
- 4:36acquired
- 4:37through frequent repetition now if you
- 4:40take a look at the areas of your life
- 4:42where you're doing
- 4:43really well when you're crushing it
- 4:45you're going to discover
- 4:46that it's because of your good habits
- 4:48period
- 4:49and likewise the other side of that coin
- 4:52if you look at the areas of your life
- 4:53where you're doing poorly
- 4:55or you're failing or under delivering
- 4:58it's likely going to be
- 4:59because of some bad habits somewhere
- 5:02and know where does this principle apply
- 5:04more directly and more
- 5:06obviously than in your love relationship
- 5:09simply put the quality of your love
- 5:11relationship
- 5:12comes down to the quality of your love
- 5:15relationship
- 5:15habits for better or for worse
- 5:19here is the most common story that we've
- 5:21encountered over the years among couples
- 5:23who've been married for a long time and
- 5:25this is a sad one but this is literally
- 5:27the common story when we were first
- 5:30together
- 5:31it was magical we couldn't get enough of
- 5:33each other we spent as much time
- 5:34together as we possibly could
- 5:36we'd stay up all night long and talk for
- 5:38hours we
- 5:40never got tired of it we never got tired
- 5:42of each other
- 5:43we laughed we had fun together we did
- 5:46special little things for each other
- 5:47all the time the sex was awesome we were
- 5:50head over heels in love
- 5:52totally passionate about each other then
- 5:54the kids came
- 5:56and our careers heated up and now we
- 5:58just don't have as much time to spend
- 6:00together
- 6:01but that's normal right we used to put
- 6:03each other first in everything we did
- 6:05but now it seems like everything else
- 6:07comes first before
- 6:08our love relationship the kids our jobs
- 6:11our friends
- 6:13church sports those special little
- 6:16things we used to do for each other to
- 6:17spice things up
- 6:18have kind of faded for instance we used
- 6:22to care about how we looked when we were
- 6:24alone together
- 6:25when it was just the two of us but now
- 6:27we don't pay too much attention to that
- 6:28anymore
- 6:29truthfully we spend more time making
- 6:32ourselves look good to go to work
- 6:33than we do for each other we used to be
- 6:36openly publicly affectionate to each
- 6:38other couldn't help it
- 6:39couldn't keep our hands off of each
- 6:41other you know but now the electricity
- 6:43that was in the air
- 6:45during those early years is gone
- 6:48our sex life is okay you know when we
- 6:51make time
- 6:52for it but not even close to what it
- 6:54used to be
- 6:56don't get me wrong we still love each
- 6:57other but we're so
- 6:59busy that we hardly get to spend any
- 7:02time alone together any
- 7:04intimate deep time with each other and
- 7:07when we do have time together
- 7:08we tend to be so exhausted by the rest
- 7:11of our lives
- 7:12that we just don't have a lot of energy
- 7:14left for each other
- 7:16but that's normal right
- 7:20yeah it's normal it's totally normal
- 7:22it's probably the most common story
- 7:23there is
- 7:24it's average it's mediocre and it's the
- 7:26result
- 7:27of mediocre habits if you want to turn
- 7:31what started out
- 7:32as a passionate exciting fulfilling love
- 7:34relationship
- 7:35into a boring lukewarm
- 7:38average love relationship all you gotta
- 7:41do
- 7:41is replace the romantic
- 7:45exciting habits that you used to have
- 7:47with lukewarm
- 7:49unconscious lazy habits and you'll have
- 7:52the total recipe for a mediocre love
- 7:54relationship
- 7:55and in my mind that's just unacceptable
- 7:59i mean how is it that people can
- 8:01unconsciously surrender what's probably
- 8:04the single greatest thing about living
- 8:06life
- 8:07on earth finding someone else to fall in
- 8:10love with
- 8:10and sharing your life with that person
- 8:12how can you just surrender that so
- 8:14easily
- 8:16yes mediocre relationships are normal
- 8:18they're the most
- 8:19common type of love relationships that
- 8:21we see all around us
- 8:22but it certainly doesn't have to be your
- 8:25story
- 8:26we can keep our love relationships
- 8:28growing we can keep them expanding
- 8:30and we can keep them every bit as hot
- 8:32and romantic
- 8:33and passionate as they ever were before
- 8:37if we just care enough to install the
- 8:39right
- 8:40habits so your exercise for today
- 8:44is to choose a great love relationship
- 8:47habit
- 8:47and to practice it every single day for
- 8:49the remainder of this challenge
- 8:51and i'm going to share a few really good
- 8:53powerful habits with you right now that
- 8:55you could choose from
- 8:56that would really move the needle in
- 8:57this important area of your life
- 8:59or of course you can make up your own
- 9:01and practice it every day
- 9:03so here we go life book love habits
- 9:07habit number one first and foremost
- 9:10is the habit of communicating
- 9:12effectively
- 9:13with each other being able to share with
- 9:16each other
- 9:17honestly and openly and easily
- 9:20now this habits number one for a reason
- 9:22because communication is the lifeblood
- 9:25of any relationship
- 9:26and the love relationship particularly
- 9:28demands effective communication
- 9:30in order to flourish but it's not always
- 9:33easy to communicate your emotions with
- 9:34someone you're in love with
- 9:36sometimes just because of the intensity
- 9:38of the feelings involved
- 9:41here's what dr nathaniel brandon said is
- 9:44the
- 9:45question when it comes to communicating
- 9:47effectively
- 9:48in a love relationship do you create a
- 9:51context
- 9:52in which your partner can feel free to
- 9:55share feelings
- 9:56thoughts fantasies hurts
- 9:59and complaints without the fear
- 10:02that you're going to condemn attack
- 10:05lecture
- 10:06or simply withdraw
- 10:09now i'm going to repeat that because
- 10:11it's quite possibly the most important
- 10:13single question you could ever ask
- 10:15if your goal is to create a healthy
- 10:18happy
- 10:19love relationship do you create a
- 10:22context
- 10:23in which your partner can feel free to
- 10:25share feelings
- 10:27to share thoughts fantasies hurts
- 10:30and complaints without the fear that
- 10:33you're going to condemn
- 10:34attack lecture or simply withdraw
- 10:39if a couple can't answer yes to that
- 10:42question
- 10:42and the vast majority of couples can't
- 10:45we don't have to wonder where the
- 10:46difficulties in their love relationship
- 10:48comes from
- 10:49if a couple can't communicate
- 10:51effectively they're not even in the game
- 10:53when it comes to creating an
- 10:55extraordinary love
- 10:57now that doesn't mean that we should
- 10:59expect our partner to be in total
- 11:01agreement or
- 11:02completely overjoyed with everything
- 11:04that we feel
- 11:05or say or do or share life just doesn't
- 11:07work that way
- 11:09but we've got to be able to express
- 11:11ourselves in an atmosphere of
- 11:12trust and respect and acceptance
- 11:15and that's exactly what our partner
- 11:17needs from us too
- 11:19the habit of effective communication is
- 11:22foundational to an extraordinary love
- 11:24relationship
- 11:25so during this challenge you could
- 11:27choose that one
- 11:28and work on it every day
- 11:31next is the habit of demonstrating your
- 11:34love
- 11:35as we say in the lifebook program so
- 11:37many times over and over and over
- 11:39love requires action
- 11:42passion and desire and romance require
- 11:46action it's not just enough to
- 11:48experience these feelings internally
- 11:50they've got to be consistently
- 11:52habitually
- 11:54expressed in deeds you know
- 11:58plan romantic dinners send flowers for
- 12:00no reason
- 12:01send a romantic text or a sexy text to
- 12:04each other
- 12:05be affectionate touch each other kiss
- 12:08each other
- 12:09tell your lover that you love her that
- 12:11you love him
- 12:12all the time that she's beautiful that
- 12:14he's awesome
- 12:15do special little things to light each
- 12:17other up and do it
- 12:19all the time here's a little example
- 12:22from my own life
- 12:23i take a nap every afternoon after lunch
- 12:25i have for years
- 12:26and every single afternoon when i come
- 12:28downstairs
- 12:29missy's made coffee for me she puts a
- 12:31little cream and sugar out and
- 12:33she leaves a love note every single day
- 12:36it's a little action takes her probably
- 12:3860 seconds i don't know but it's
- 12:40it's big for me it means it means i care
- 12:42about you
- 12:43every single day you know it means i was
- 12:46thinking about you this afternoon
- 12:47i think about you every afternoon every
- 12:50single afternoon when i come down and
- 12:51see my little cup of coffee
- 12:53and and her love note i think about her
- 12:56caring for me
- 12:57i think about her loving me 365 days a
- 13:01year
- 13:01that's a little thing but that's awesome
- 13:04every single day that you spend with
- 13:06your partner
- 13:06is another opportunity that you have to
- 13:09develop a habit
- 13:10that will express your love that will
- 13:13express your passion for each other
- 13:15and your immense gratefulness for the
- 13:18beauty
- 13:18that you're building together here's the
- 13:21next love relationship habit i want to
- 13:23share
- 13:24the habit of really paying attention to
- 13:26your partner this is a very very
- 13:28overlooked
- 13:29habit in most love relationships when
- 13:32you're working
- 13:33and your wife walks into the room stop
- 13:37that is the love of your life standing
- 13:39right in front of you so
- 13:40be there and ask yourself how is she
- 13:43feeling right now
- 13:44is there something that she needs from
- 13:45you right now what can you do to light
- 13:47her up in this moment
- 13:49if you're dealing with the kids if
- 13:51you're helping them with their homework
- 13:52or doing whatever
- 13:53in the kitchen he walks in the room stop
- 13:56that's your man
- 13:58be there you know ask yourself what does
- 14:00he need from me right now did he have a
- 14:02rough day at work how can i support him
- 14:03how can i light him up right now
- 14:06train your mind to tune in to your
- 14:09partner's experience and get connected
- 14:12remember there's nothing more important
- 14:14than the person who's standing right in
- 14:15front of you
- 14:16so if you can learn to tap into that
- 14:19deep well
- 14:20of love and respect and admiration that
- 14:22you have for your partner
- 14:24you can really heat up your love
- 14:26relationship works wonders
- 14:28we've got a life book member named jason
- 14:30rhodes and he and his wife have
- 14:32a really cool little ritual they call it
- 14:35their welcome home habit
- 14:36and this is another one of those small
- 14:38but very big rituals
- 14:40that takes place every single time one
- 14:42of them arrives home for the
- 14:44day they stop everything doesn't matter
- 14:46what's going on
- 14:47and they welcome each other with hugs
- 14:49and kisses for the next
- 14:50five minutes non-stop it's full-on
- 14:54attention and we're not talking about
- 14:56just hey babe how did work go today
- 14:58they demonstrate full undivided
- 15:01attention for each other
- 15:02every single day when they see each
- 15:04other after work 365 days a year
- 15:07that is awesome our next love habit
- 15:10is one of the most powerful love habits
- 15:12of all the habit of carving out
- 15:14sacred time to spend together and never
- 15:17missing it
- 15:18you could create a daily connection
- 15:20ritual like jason's welcome home ritual
- 15:22or missy and i have this ritual we call
- 15:24our ring walk
- 15:26every single day after work we spend at
- 15:28least a half hour if not an hour
- 15:31walking around our garden and just
- 15:33reconnecting with each other
- 15:34and catching up from the events of the
- 15:36day it has been
- 15:37amazing for our entire relationship
- 15:41we also have a weekly date night in my
- 15:43experience
- 15:44this has been probably the single most
- 15:46important love strategy that we've ever
- 15:47employed
- 15:49one night per week alone together
- 15:52overnight no matter where in the world
- 15:53we
- 15:54are we've done this for more than 25
- 15:56years and i think that it's been the
- 15:58single most
- 15:58powerful love strategy that we've ever
- 16:01implemented into our love relationship
- 16:03life book members who've tried this
- 16:05who've added this to their
- 16:07love rituals know the power of it
- 16:10we've got a couple wonderful life book
- 16:12members named andy and shelly clark
- 16:15they've even added a weekly business
- 16:17meeting in addition to their overnight
- 16:19date
- 16:20to make sure that their date doesn't
- 16:22turn into you know
- 16:23administration or finances or
- 16:25housekeeping nights
- 16:26because your dates should be about fun
- 16:28they should be about sex
- 16:29and romance and love and they should be
- 16:32exciting
- 16:32they shouldn't be about all the stuff
- 16:34that we've got to do so that was a
- 16:36really great idea from andy and shelly
- 16:39the next love relationship habit that
- 16:40we're going to explore is the habit of
- 16:43handling disagreements
- 16:45intelligently couples with a toxic
- 16:48or a mediocre love relationship just
- 16:51don't know how to fight well
- 16:53either they're going to have a huge
- 16:54emotional explosion
- 16:56right or they'll just clam up when you
- 16:59encounter a disagreement which you
- 17:01inevitably will
- 17:02you've got to learn how to deal with it
- 17:04intelligently
- 17:06if you have to argue or even if you have
- 17:08to have a bit of a fight
- 17:09you've got to learn to do it wisely
- 17:12sounds strange but it's absolutely the
- 17:15truth
- 17:16and in order to do this again you've got
- 17:18to train your mind
- 17:20in right thinking you got to remember in
- 17:23the heat of those moments
- 17:25this is the person i love even when
- 17:27you're angry
- 17:28you got to remember we're on the same
- 17:30side even when we disagree
- 17:33you got to remember that you are for
- 17:35each other and that your partner
- 17:36deserves the benefit of the doubt
- 17:38always so try to be
- 17:41solution oriented when you can instead
- 17:44of being self-indulgent just
- 17:46blowing up emotionally if you can't
- 17:48bring compassion and understanding and
- 17:50empathy in that moment
- 17:51which you sometimes can't you know it is
- 17:54the way it is
- 17:55maybe just move away from each other and
- 17:58give each other a little space
- 18:00to cool down and you know this is
- 18:02something that missy and i have done
- 18:03over the years it's awesome we try to
- 18:06see who's going to be the first one
- 18:08to come to their senses and make up from
- 18:11this
- 18:11argument you know make that a habit and
- 18:14and that person is a hero in our in our
- 18:16book the first one that
- 18:17you know can apologize after the
- 18:20argument
- 18:21might take a minute sometimes it takes
- 18:22an hour sometimes you know it takes
- 18:24longer than that
- 18:25but to be the first one to say you're
- 18:27sorry and to
- 18:28mean it is an awesome thing so you could
- 18:31make that a habit to take responsibility
- 18:34for your part
- 18:35of you know a disagreement or an
- 18:37argument because
- 18:38let's face it these are usually not
- 18:40completely one-sided right
